This midday "tea" kick is brought to you by a "tea" that really isn't tea in the strictest sense. This is yabao - basically the "branch buds" of a Camellia tree. Notice how I didn't say sinensis specifically? Gooood. . . Yabao is usually made from Camellia sinensis var. assamica trees in Yunnan province, China... but can also be made from other Camellia species in the region, like taliensis. . . This yabao is neither of those. This comes from a region in Yunnan called Qianjiazhai. Never heard of it, I haven't either. The Camellia species is called Crassicolumna, and it's (allegedly) caffeine free. I got a sample with a recent @verdanttea order. . . A deeper, bloggy dive into the species will be happening. But this tea wasn't going to be a part of that. I might have to rethink that. . . As yabao(s?) go, this is the sweetest and fruitiest I've tasted yet. Greetings from Qianjiazhai!  
We are traveling across China, visiting our partner farmers and friends.  Our first leg of the journey brings us to Master Han and his wild-picked pu'er and black tea.
Tea trees and tulsi grow wild on Mt. Ailao's slopes alongside evergreens and aromatic herbs.  Master Han's workshop is three hours up the narrow, winding road - through the morning fog and onto the peak itself.

I feel like I say this for every new tea, but this is my favorite sheng so far. It’s so… gentle. The astringency is there, but it doesn’t punch you in the mouth like other shengs can.
I had a nice long session with it today and got my increases done on the hat I might send to Germany.

Closer to an oxidized sheng pu'er than a traditional robust and spicy Dian Hong, this wild-picked tea has a bright body with crisp florals and a vegetal, citrus aftertaste.
