They continue walking in a straight line in the forest, as per Mira’s suggestion, until Rylee hears a rustling sound. She reaches out to grab Mira’s shoulder, but they must have gotten far enough for Mira’s brief power-up to fade, as she’s back to being incorporeal.

“Mira,” Rylee hisses, getting her attention. “Did you hear that?”

Mira pauses and turns to face her. She shakes her head, and they wait in silence. It happens again, the rustling, and this time Rylee can hear a familiar-sounding voice.

It sounds like—and she has to rein herself in lest she get too excited—Tyren.

“It’s them,” Rylee breathes out, eyes frantic and searching Mira’s expressionless face. “It’s got to be them.”

“If you say so,” she says, and Rylee does not fault her for her skepticism. “Go ahead, though. I will be behind you.”

“It’s not a mirage,” Rylee insists. “Not again.”

Mira smiles. “Go ahead,” she repeats.
