the sound of music thumped through the air, each beat vibrating in the walls of the crowded house. laughter and conversation filled every corner, competing with the pop of champagne bottles and the occasional yell of someone shouting the time left until midnight. fairy lights hung low from the ceiling, glowing golden against the dim backdrop, while groups of friends swayed together under their soft shimmer.

you didn’t want to be here. sure, it wasn’t awful—shoko had done her best to make sure you weren’t stuck alone, dragging you into conversations and introducing you to her circle of friends before disappearing back into the chaos. but there was only so much small talk and awkward standing around you could handle before it all felt suffocating.

standing by the window, you watched frost creep along the edges of the glass, your drink untouched in your hand. couples clung to each other, leaning close and sharing laughter as the countdown loomed closer.

“so, who’s your new year’s kiss?”

the voice came from beside you, smooth and laced with amusement. you turned to find a tall man with snowy white hair, his eyes glinting under the warm lights. his smile was easy, confident, like he already knew the answer to his question.

“no one,” you replied, caught off guard by his boldness.

“perfect.”

he didn’t ask for permission. he simply stayed by your side, hands tucked casually into his pockets, as the countdown began.

“ten!” someone shouted, the crowd quickly joining in.

you looked up at him, confused but intrigued by his sudden appearance. “who are you?”

“does it matter?” he shot back, his smirk widening as he glanced at the clock.

“three! two! one!”

before you could reply, he leaned in, brushing his lips against yours. the kiss was fleeting but warm, sending a shock of electricity through you. you froze, unsure whether to pull back or lean in closer, but the moment was over before you could decide.

“happy new year,” he murmured, his breath fanning across your cheek. and just as quickly as he appeared, he was gone, melting into the crowd before you could even ask his name.

you stood there, lips tingling and heart racing, staring after the stranger who had turned your midnight into something unforgettable.

the subsequent solitary walk of shame back to your apartment provides the perfect environment for you to think about what exactly you were going to say to naoya.

you’ve faced the facts. you don't love him anymore. the man you fell in love with is gone. in fact, there's a high chance that he never even existed, and naoya put up a good facade long enough for you to get attached, until he was sure you loved him too much to leave.

you look back on your entire relationship with the man. you had met him at megumi’s 15th birthday party. he said all the right things, telling you how you were much smarter, more mature than other girls your age. he gave all the right signals, and by the time you started officially dating on your 18th birthday, you were madly in love.

no one approved. not your friends, not your parents. hell, even megumi’s parents, toji and mina fushiguro, who had known you since middle school, told - no - begged you not to waste your youth on a man like naoya, and that if you didn't see it now, you'd learn when it was too late.

it's like a veil has been lifted off your eyes. you realise that it wasn't naoya’s age that made him mature. in all other aspects, he was like a pubescent boy, petulant, selfish and disrespectful.

but yuta… god. you don't think he has a single selfish bone in his body.

you know what you have to do.

“we’re not breaking up,” naoya says with certainty, looking at you as if you're stupid, high, concussed or all three.

“naoya,” you say placatingly, as if negotiating with a toddler. “we aren't compatible anymore. the signs have been there-”

“goddamnit, y/n, i said we are not breaking up!” naoya snaps. he always yells when he doesn't get his way. but again, so do you.

“don't raise your fucking voice at me!” you retort, before he can even finish his sentence.

“i don't want you anymore, i know damn well why you're so secretive and distant, and you know this isn't going anywhere, so why are you trying so hard to grasp onto this…concept of a relationship?!”

“because- this- you don't know what you're saying, baby,” is his response. he’s choosing to go the consolatory route in a last ditch effort to delay the inevitable.

“this is just a rough patch. we can get through this, we’ve done it before, yeah?”

you shake your head, determined not to let your resolve crumble. “no, naoya. come on. we’ve only been together a year, and we argue on and off like we're on the cusp of a divorce. you cheated on me. i...may have cheated on you. this-”

“wait,” he interrupts. “you what?”

damn your honesty.

“yeah,” you breathe out. the relationship is basically over, so you see no point in hiding it.

“when? it was your birthday, right? that's why you got so-” he begins, and you tune him out on his rant as he paces the length of your bedroom.

for all his flaws, naoya is impeccably sharp. he can practically sense your focus shifting before it even fully happens, and snaps his fingers in front of your face.

“hey,” he says. “don't do that, you know it pisses me off.”

“sorry,” you respond, more as a formality than anything else. “but, yeah. it's best if we don't continue this. you're better off with a girl…well, your age.”

naoya scoffs. “you don't say. last time i mess with a fickle brat.”

“last time i mess with a pedophile,” comes your grumbled retort.

the ordeal is more peaceful than you anticipated, and in mere minutes, he’s gone, leaving you alone with your thoughts.

A band formed by four talented college students of Jujutsu Tokyo College in Tokyo, Japan. White Noise creates music in a few different genres: Rock, alternative, r&b. Check their music here!

They all started as a basic friend group that shared their love for music, and one day they made a song for fun. One of them posted it online without the knowledge of his other friends, but it surprisingly blew up. From then on, they began creating music for the world. Toge Inumaki, the vocalist. Megumi Fushiguro, the electric guitarist. Yuta Okkotsu, the bassist. Yuuji Itadori, the drummer. Satoru Gojo is White Noise’s childish, tall, attractive (and gay) manager who has (unfortunately) known Megumi since he was in elementary school.

CRAVE - chapter five

you wake up the next morning in an unknown bed, wearing unfamiliar clothes in a room you've never seen before. you don't remember leaving megumi’s apartment. in fact, after crying like a baby into yuta’s chest (awkward), you don't remember anything at all.

you stumble out of bed and take a moment to get your bearings, blinking the sleep out of your eyes and shaking the fog out of your head as you exit the door. you recognise the hallway; it's megumi’s apartment, as you suspected. so whose room is this?

“you're awake,” you hear a voice to your left say. you turn to the source to see that it's yuta. “you were out cold, so i got megumi to change you and put you down on my bed.”

“where'd you sleep?” you ask.

“the couch,” he responds. “i would've shared with toge, but he sleep fights, so…”

this manages to get a small chuckle out of you, which yuta mentally pats himself on the back for. he likes seeing you smile, and the only thing he likes more than that is being the reason for it.

he speaks up again after a few quiet moments. “you feel any better?”

“yeah,” you nod. “my eyes feel a little sore, but other than that i feel fine.”

“good, good,” yuta nods, throwing the both of you into a silence that's both awkward and natural at the same time.

“your boyfriend called. you should probably call him back,” yuta says finally, before walking past you and back into his bedroom.

you curse under your breath and go to the living room to find your phone on the coffee table. you unlock it and note that it's on full charge, meaning someone must've plugged it in on your behalf. but that doesn't matter when the flood of texts from naoya begin to fill your screen.

you put your phone down, registering the familiar pressure behind your eyes that foreshadow the tears you always shed at every mild disagreement with naoya. you don't know when he became so…oddly sadistic, but the change was so slow that you couldn't even pinpoint a specific date if you tried.

you feel sick despite your empty stomach, and every single thought you have is rushing through your mind faster than you can properly process them.

you hate who your boyfriend is becoming. or maybe he's always been this way, and just a really good liar.
