Hyunwoo paused at getting out of his car, hands gripping the steering wheel instead of letting go. He could simply start the vehicle up again and leave you to solve your own drunken problems. Sure, he was your personal assistant but he was certain his working hours for the day were well and truly over by now.
Yet as soon as your slurred words had disturbed his peaceful slumber, Hyunwoo hadn’t hesitated to get out of bed and come fetch you. It wasn’t his first time, and it probably wouldn’t be his last either. He was always picking up after you and hoping one day you’d remember his efforts in your most vulnerable of moments.
Part of him didn’t want you to clue on to your drunken mannerisms, however. He was happy with his position in the company and didn’t want to complicate that any. You never remembered a thing about your actions and frankly, he could pull himself into check to keep you remaining none the wiser. You viewed him as competent, when really he was just choosing what to allow you to see. Working for you was more stressful than he let on.
Getting out of the car with a heavy sigh, Hyunwoo knew he couldn’t think of the other possibility. If he didn’t have a role in your world, well, he didn’t know what he’d do. And so he headed into the downtown bar, smiling weakly when he could hear your voice before he even saw you.
His presence made you instantly smile and your company outwardly groan. “Why did you ring him?! Y/N, that’s not your boyfriend, that’s Hyunwoo!”
“I know!” you crooned, standing up with a start, wobbling in your heels. Hyunwoo reached out to steady you and you smiled up at him lazily. Despite clearly being drunk, he couldn’t help but enjoy the flushed tone to your skin. Right now you didn’t appear like a successful CEO and you certainly weren’t acting like one. It was a rare sight to see you unravelled like this.
Still, he knew better than to get his emotions involved in situations like this. “Time to go home.”
“Home? To your home?!” you asked with an apparent slur which seemed to humour you. “Hyunwoo-woo’s homeeeee!”
“Did you need a lift home too, Tanith?” he offered your best friend who shyly nodded. “Let’s go then.”
He had attempted to get Tanith to go home with you but you had been adamant she had to go home for some reason. And so, Hyunwoo had dropped your friend off and pulled up in your apartment’s parking lot, helping you out of the car.
“Can you help me?” you mumbled, somewhat coming to your senses. Hyunwoo at least hoped you were, and nodded, offering his arm in which you greedily took. The first couple of minutes were silent as you walked over to the elevator. And then you glanced up at him, wide-eyed. “What would I do without you?”
“Find another assistant,” he offered immediately, swallowing back his emotions. He didn’t dare look at you, remembering what happened last time when he did.
“No, I couldn’t live without you, Hyunwoo.”
Chest muscles now clenching, he didn’t speak. He couldn’t. It was pointless to believe in your words.
“I don’t need anyone else in this world but you. Promise me you won’t ever leave.”
It was selfish, your request. Drunken or not, it was a punishment. You didn’t want him the way he wanted you. In his opinion, you had no concept of who he was outside of his role. Whilst he knew every detail about you, and could act before you needed him to, you hadn’t developed the same level of understanding. Therefore he needed to take your words at face value, that the company would suffer if he wasn’t there.
Not that you would personally suffer without him.
“I enjoy my job, don’t worry, Y/N.”
“I’m not talking about at the office. I’d be useless without you in every way,” you continued and he groaned, looking at the numbers in the elevator and hoping they would go faster. Your arms wrapped around him, holding him tightly as if he were about to disappear from your side. He wished he could, for his own sake. Loving you was something he hadn’t expected to happen when he accepted the position as your secretary. Yet it was inevitable.
He disliked how much he was enjoying this embrace. When the doors opened, however, he stepped forward, away of your hold. You stumbled, glancing up at him with surprise.
“Why aren’t you answering me?”
“You’re drunk, Y/N.”
You shook your head, though your unbalanced steps proved otherwise. “I’m serious. Promise you won’t leave me. That you’ll always be there when I need you the most.”
Hyunwoo gave you a firm smile before placing in your keycode, the door clicking open. “Well, I came and got you now, didn’t I?”
Hyunwoo was anxious to pick you up. Once again, you had called for his assistance, your slurred words hitting his sleepy state like a rock. What were you doing out drinking alone? Why were you drinking? And why had you not called him to come with you?
The questions propelled him to drive faster, his concerns mounting higher the longer it took him to get to you. Knowing how you were when drunk always worried him, but with your current agreement, he had hoped this would never happen.
You were contracted to marry him, after all.
Between you both, everything had been getting on so well that this sudden drunken escapade meant something had gone wrong. You hardly drank but when you did, it was usually because something was stressing you out. Was the whole situation of marrying him that much of a concern? It was your idea, your plan in the beginning. When you had asked him to marry you because of your incident in front of Kim Mina, he had assumed you would eventually cave and just call it off. Hyunwoo had initially surprised you in supporting the ridiculous situation, and perhaps he had relaxed too much over the past few weeks as your fake fiancé. He hadn’t slipped in professionalism, but then again, you hadn’t spent so much time with him before like you were now. He couldn’t figure out what was bothering you, not even when he stood before you and the mess on the table.
You had drunk way too much tonight.
“Woo is here. Hyunwoo-woo-woooo!”
He was so angry with you that all he could do was pull you up from the table in which you swayed from side to side dangerously. And as he dealt with the bartender, he allowed you to support yourself. He needed to calm down but that wasn’t going to happen any time soon, not even when you threw yourself onto him. Gripping you firmly, he all but carried you out to his car, buckling you into the seat before rounding the vehicle to his side.
He didn’t care for your whining, staring at you pointedly. “Why did you drink so much?”
You dismissed him, now in a sulky mood and soon you were lulled to sleep in the car. He checked on you a couple of times as he drove, but mostly he just gripped the steering wheel as he navigated the late-night traffic.
When he pulled into the underground parking to your apartment, he glanced over at you still breathing evenly in your slumbering state. “I should just wake you up and make you walk yourself in.”
Yet he didn’t, sighing to himself as he went around to your side and unbuckled you. Lifting you out of the car, the sound of the passenger door that he pushed closed brought you away from your dreams and when he glanced at you, you were disappointed.
At least you shared the same emotions right now.
You groaned and he couldn’t help but chuckle. “Why would you drink so much if you were going to regret it?”
“Do I have to answer that? You can put me down, I can walk, I think.”
He obeyed your pats on his shoulder after a moment of deliberation, remembering just how many empty glasses had littered your table back at the bar. He wondered if your liver would even cope with you standing right now.
Still, you were an adult. And you had made the decision to drink yourself into oblivion to avoid whatever problem you were faced with. Unlike all the other times he had picked you up when drunk, you decided to walk yourself in, confusing him as to why you weren’t clinging to him.
And when you stumbled, his aide to stop you from falling left you pressed into the wall instead, Hyunwoo’s body pressing into you. The look you gave him answered everything.
He was the problem you were trying to drink away.
You searched his expression and soon your hand came up to cup his cheek tenderly, which caused him to groan. He should have known you would try something still. “You’re always like this with me.”
“I’m what?”
He hesitated for the umpteenth time. In the past, it would have been all too easy to shove this delightful experience away. Hyunwoo knew you were drunk, after all. Still, his emotions were equally heightened these days and with the way your eyes were soaking him in, he couldn’t stop the words as they fell out, running a frustrated hand through his hair at the same time. “I can never figure out how you feel towards me, Y/N. Every time you get drunk, this always happens.”
He didn’t get a chance to react further, his hand stuck in his hair as you pressed your lips to his. However, he did respond to your kiss. Even though he knew it was wrong, he wanted this. He needed this. All these weeks together had amounted to something in his mind. It wasn’t fake to him, at least not his feelings. Of course, he hadn’t exactly planned to marry you this way but he wasn’t going to let the logistics break how he felt. Even with the sour taste of how you had spent your night, Hyunwoo didn’t want this kiss to end.
He wanted to keep kissing you every day of his life.
But it ended and he could see the confusion in your eyes. It was always there since your first kiss four years ago. Back then, he had been naïve. He assumed you would remember the kiss the following day at work and be awkward with him about it. He had antagonised how to address it with you all night long. But you were the same old Y/N he was used to. You didn’t approach the topic and at first, he thought it was your tactic on how to not grow awkward about it. After another day, he realised you hadn’t remembered locking lips with him or inviting himself into your home. Thank god, he had declined the latter.
Now though, he wanted to come in. He wanted you to remember all that you did with him.
“You never remember in the morning. Not once,” he admitted as you shook your head, trying to decipher why this wasn’t a life-altering experience. You had tasted these lips before. And he had spent his entire career balancing on a fine line of wanting to take them for himself whenever he felt like doing so, and trying to forget each and every drunken kiss you had given him.
“This… has happened before?”
God, he just wanted to do something so you could replay all the years with him at your side. All the stolen glances he took, all the moments where your smile made his cool exterior feel hot and uncontrolled. He wished you had seen him for what he had you. Hyunwoo sighed.
“Y/N, don’t make me fall for you even more. It’s cruel of you to do this to me time and time again. I’m equally as foolish for allowing you to.”
“You could have told me.”
You were right, he could have. So many times had he gone to. But it was always chased away with your endless dates with affluent people. Hyunwoo had struggled to see himself as a match for your status, much like you had of your own towards people like Mina. He cocked his head to the side, eyes equally as hard as yours were. “You never remembered. Would you have believed me if I told you that you kissed me when you were drunk? It would only lead to awkwardness and distance from you which would make our working relationship a nightmare to navigate.”
That and because he was hurt that you never remembered something as good as his kisses.
After some contemplation, you stood up taller, looking at him determinedly. “Hyunwoo, I need you to do something for me.”
“What can I assist you with?”
“You have to ensure I remember this time.”
Rolling over in the bed, he groaned, trying to avoid the light shining onto his barely opened eyes. It stung more than it should and he needed to take care of the giant weight within his stomach. Rolling some more, he laid on his tummy and looked away from the curtains, blinking slowly when he found you lying beside him.
Hyunwoo sat up with a start. “Y/N, what are you doing here?”
“Hmm?” you hummed, yawning as you stretched out your arm. When you hit him by accident, your eyes opened in realisation. “Oh, yes.”
“I’m not following.”
“You told me I had to stay. In fact, you were adamant about it. Since when do you drink so much, huh? Isn’t that my usual party trick instead?”
It wasn’t a dream to wake up and find you at his side then. Sighing, Hyunwoo rubbed at his face slowly in hopes it would bring forth last night to him.
You moved closer, leaning in to kiss his torso lazily, flinging your arm over his lap. “Don’t you remember anything, my lover?”
“L-lover?!” he echoed, his usual tiny eyes in the morning now wide with fright. He knew you were actually together now, so waking up at your side wouldn’t be unfathomable. He’d done it more than this, but still, for Hyunwoo this was taking some adjusting. He had wanted this for so long that he couldn’t grasp reality from dreamland just yet.
And with the heaviness of his obvious drinking last night, he wasn’t so confident in knowing what was going on. He looked at you for facts. “You really don’t remember, huh? I’m disappointed.”
“Why, what did I do?”
“Well,” you started, trying to contain your satisfied smile with an exaggerated pout. “You told me you always got upset that I didn’t remember when you kissed me after drinking all night. If only that’s all we did last night, then I wouldn’t be so mad right now at your lack of knowledge.”
Hyunwoo dived for the edge of the blankets that covered his legs, breathing all too heavily when he found his underwear where they ought to be. You were giggling too much now, and he glared at your teasing. “Nothing happened.”
“Your face is priceless though!”
“You don’t get to do that to me!” he exclaimed, grabbing his sore head afterwards. There was too much going on for him to comprehend with his hangover. “I never once did that to you.”
“We both know I’m not the same as you though, Hyunwoo. God, I don’t know how you held it in. I wanted to be a good fiancé and pamper you this morning but you made it too easy when you panicked finding me at your side. Is it really that hard to believe this is our future?”
His annoyance eased as you moved up in the bed so you could snuggle into him. The stomach pains started to ease with your comfort. “Sometimes it is.”
“I always get overwhelmed by your honesty,” you told him and then kissed his chest. Hyunwoo angled you both so your next kiss would be his mouth instead of other parts of his body. You merely grinned at him. “I can’t believe I had you at my side for all those years and didn’t know just how in love you were with me.”
“Now you do,” he murmured, offering his lips forward for you to kiss.
Instead, you tapped his mouth with a playful hand. “You need to shower, you stink. And then I’ll have some food ready for you.”
“You’re cooking?”
“Don’t I need to learn how to feed you as your future wife?”
He nodded and then groaned when his head sloshed a little too hard. Taking to the shower and washing away the night out with his friends, Hyunwoo stepped out into the living area, frowning when he didn’t find you there. There was no tempting smell of food cooking; in fact, he could tell you hadn’t even entered his kitchen. Cinching the towel around his waist more firmly, he then turned for the bedroom.
And there you were.
“Where’s breakfast?”
“You know, I’m kind of upset we haven’t done more than just sleep in this bed, Hyunwoo. And with how you reacted to my joke, I got to thinking. Just what are you waiting for to take the next step with me?”
He gaped at you for a moment, shaking his head softly. “Are you serious right now?”
“You’re sober, you’ll remember it.”
“You don’t want something romantic first? I’ve barely started to shift my hangover, how is this a perfect recipe for our first time?”
“Stop trying to make everything perfect for me,” you instructed, kneeling on the edge of his bed and reaching out for him. He came over, your hands instantly running a pathway from his torso up to his shoulders. “I just want you how you come.”
“Right now?”
“Are you going to keep me waiting or will I have to use my boss voice to order you into this bed with me?” you teased and Hyunwoo dropped the towel covering him, your shrieks soon muffled and replaced with moans.
He had been protecting you and himself from being this way for far too long. And now that he knew you would remember his love for you every day, whether you were sober or not, Hyunwoo realised there was no need to hold back anymore.

Once again, you were sitting in the middle of a restaurant waiting for someone you didn’t even know to arrive. Well, you had done the initial profile check to ensure you weren’t meeting with just anybody, even though that was kind of how it felt. Smoothing down your striped pantsuit before reaching for the glass of water, you scanned the room for a sign of the man you were meant to be enjoying dinner with.
You smiled to yourself, you wondered if you would even get as far as to eat this time around.
For the past three months, your parents had been actively trying to marry you off to the finest bachelor they could find. It appeared this city had an abundance of single men since you had been on countless blind dates so far. It was exhausting and quite frankly, it cut into your precious time you could have spent working at the office or enjoying a quiet night at home.
It wasn’t like you were trying hard to not be picked; you were just, not trying at all. You had no desire to meet up with someone you had no choice in meeting in a natural setting. This was manufactured to the point that it was the parents talking more than the children. You disliked how unromantic it all was.
It always threw those around you by surprise when they realised just how much of a hopeless romantic you were. Perhaps it was because when you were in your executive role as CEO of your company, you were strictly business. You would strive relentlessly to get any deal you set your mind on, and investors all saw you as competent, smart and straight to the point.
You guessed that was why your best friend Tanith would shake her head incredulously whenever you swooned over something completely and utterly cliché. “That is not real love.”
“But I want it,” you breathed, watching the screen in front of you both dreamily. The smile from the male protagonist warmed your heart even further and soon you were smiling back at him as if this was your moment.
You wanted that feeling more than anything.
“Then why aren’t you dating one of the men thrown at your feet every weekend? How many do you have lined up this week?”
“Four,” you admitted, barely tearing your eyes away from the drama you were watching to reach for the popcorn Tanith held. “Dinner on Friday, brunch and dinner on Saturday and coffee on Sunday.”
“You never know, you could meet Mr Right.”
You glared at your best friend, not sure if she was teasing you or hoping for your sake that you would. Tanith chuckled when she noticed your expression. “Yes, I know it’s not real if you don’t get to choose how you cross paths with him. But not everything in life is a drama, Y/N. You might meet someone this weekend who makes your heart sing like every one of your favourite leading ladies experience. Which I will remind you again-”
“Isn’t real life,” you concluded sourly, grinning at her all the same. “You sound just like my mother.”
“Well, there are worse things she could ask of you right now.” You cocked your head to the side expectantly and Tanith shrugged. “Like, leave your business and return back to the family home.”
“She threatened that if I’m not married soon she and my father will insist on just that,” you mentioned with a sigh, throwing yourself along the sofa and kicked out a leg in protest. “I’m already married to my work, why do I need to get married now?”
“Because you’re thirty and they see that as ancient compared to when they got married themselves,” Tanith pointed out and you smirked, nodding slowly.
“It’s not the same era though. Careers are important.”
“So is love.”
You agreed. “When it’s done right.”
You humoured Tanith initially. Who were you to judge how fate would bring forth someone for you? Even if you hated it, you could meet your future husband over dinner set up by your parents.
But you knew better. After all, you were a seasoned pro at these things now. You were either too ambitious and not nearly as accomplished as a prospect for running the impending future household they wanted you to. Or you were just the right amount of driven for them, except all they could do was talk business and nothing else. You wanted someone to connect with. Someone who would reach deep into your soul.
And that’s why by Saturday evening, you hadn’t even waited until you snuck off to the bathroom to put the ring on your finger.
Desperate times had called for desperate measures. As you smiled demurely up at your date, it didn’t take him long to spot the subtle sparkle on your left hand, or for him to politely excuse himself either. Dinner had arrived but it was only for one and you were pleased with the outcome. As you ate, you planned strategies for tomorrow so you would be yet another weekend unsuccessful. And ready to start a new week at work.
“Y/N?” a voice called out and you glanced up from your meal, faltering when you saw who stood there in front of you. Mina grinned before sliding into the empty chair across from you. “It is you!”
“Ah, it’s been awhile, how are you?”
“Busy as always. Married life keeps you on your toes,” she stated airily, throwing her hand out in an obvious manner to bring attention to the giant rock that resided there. You nodded mindlessly, your appetite now forgotten.
You didn’t want to feel jealous but Kim Mina had it all. She had been beating you in life for years, first in high school, then at university and finally in adulthood. You couldn’t even hate her for having done so well, her accomplishments were all genuine. She had a great career, met the man of her dreams and even had the cutest toddler.
And she had done it all without the help of her family.
Some people had all the luck in the world.
Mina’s startled gasp pulled you out of your envy, her hand shooting across the table to grab your own. “You’re engaged?!”
To anyone else, you would have refuted it with a laugh. Oh, this? No, it’s just a decoy to stop blind dates from going further than they need to. But you couldn’t say that to her. The woman you had inadvertently compared your own success and failure to for years having that kind of information over you would be social suicide. Whilst it was smart practice for you to wear the ring for your own safety, if word got round your alumni, well, you shuddered to think of how damaging that could be to your career.
And to your psyche.
So like a deer in headlights, you flailed about, trying to decide what to say to her. She was giggling with delight, gripping at your hand as if you had suddenly joined some elitist club. Welcoming you in to feel as if you belonged in this world she was rapidly creating. “Oh Y/N! Who is he?! You finally found love huh? I’m so happy for you! We’ll have to have you over for dinner sometime soon with your beau. Oh my goodness, wait until everyone hears about this! When’s the date?!”
You should have corrected her.
You knew that lying about something as big as this was only going to come back to haunt you.
Yet you smiled, albeit weakly and nodded at Mina. “I guess I am.”
And just like that, you were engaged.
To well… that you would drastically need to figure out.

Could You Marry Me? - Part 7 (Final)
Summary: Marriage was something you dreamed of reaching after falling in love with the man of your dreams. Yet the romantic in you is thrown out the window when you end up having to fake your engagement with your personal assistant.

“I don’t want to marry you.”
Hyunwoo blinked, stunned by your response. You were equally as surprised with how easy it was to admit it, considering everything lately had been leading up to walking down the aisle. Shifting towards him after placing down the cooking utensil, you took a deep breath. “I mean, I don’t want to marry you right now.”
He visibly relaxed then, nodding in simple acceptance. Turning off the soup and then taking you over to sit at the small table in your house, Hyunwoo soon returned with the meal and sat down across from you. And then he waited for you to direct the conversation much like he had that fateful day when you both signed your marriage contract. Today, however, you were hoping for this to end with a mutual conversation and nothing to sign in the end.
“I thought I regretted lying to Mina about having a fiancé. Of course, it would have been more practical to tell the truth and not end up in this situation. But had I not gone through with it to this level, well, would I be this clued on to why I like you?” you explained and a small smile played upon Hyunwoo’s lips. He was enjoying this, and you wondered how long he had wished to hear this from you. Hyunwoo didn’t say anything however, allowing you to continue. “I don’t know when it started but I became aware there was a reason I was rejecting everyone I was set up with on the blind dates.”
“They weren’t me.”
It wasn’t a question. Hyunwoo had stated the facts as if it was a simple task to do so. As you stared back at him, you realised to him it was. Hyunwoo really was that straight-forward.
It made you roll your eyes all the same. “How do you know that?”
“Are you going to refute it?” he asked and you huffed out in response. He chuckled. “Who else would be able to assist you as well as I do?”
“It’s not even that,” you stated and Hyunwoo’s humour eased off. “Sure, you make my working life extremely functional. And I’m always impressed with your endless array of talents. But outside of work, you’re just really warm to me. I don’t need you to assist me; I just want you to be at my side.”
“You’re really direct with your words today,” he mentioned, a tinge of colour invading his cheeks.
“You can’t be the only one who gets the fun in stating everything with ease.”
You shared a smile with one another before Hyunwoo gestured to the breakfast he had made. Although eating came as a natural digression from the conversation, the way you looked at one another over the meal confirmed that there was something here that needed to be further explored. After breakfast was completed, Hyunwoo stood in your doorway, reluctant to leave. You knew he had a lot more to say.
But he also needed to change his clothes.
“You know, we went to all that effort to fool Mina by having all those items for you around my home but the one thing we forgot was clothing in the wardrobe,” you told him, scuffing your slippered foot over the landing to your entryway.
Hyunwoo grinned. “Should I bring some back with me?”
“When will you come back?”
“You didn’t freak out by me saying that,” he mentioned and you leaned towards him, kissing his lips briefly. When you pulled away, you relished in seeing the unravelling of the man in front of you.
“You didn’t freak out about me kissing you just now either,” you told him with a giggle, Hyunwoo blinking slowly out of his stupor.
He gave you a stern look. “You’re playing with fire. I’m not always just going to let you lead, Y/N.”
“I’m hopeful that you’ll step out of the subordinate role more often.”
“Even at work?”
You shook your head. “I don’t know if letting everyone know that it’s you who makes me proactive in life would be beneficial towards our clients, don’t you?”
“Behind every successful woman is her man, huh?” he concluded and you wrapped your arms around his neck, nodding happily. “I’m yours?”
“You signed a contract, didn’t you?”
“I thought you didn’t want to go ahead with that anymore,” he claimed, sizing your lips up all the same.
“When you said you wanted to marry someone who you planned to spend the rest of your life with, you meant me, right?”
“You are the only person I want to marry, Y/N. I just had hoped I would be the first to propose.”
Whilst you didn’t exactly come clean to Mina about your fake engagement, you did tell her that you had cancelled the wedding with Hyunwoo. You had worried over her reaction for a couple of days before telling her, knowing the woman would retreat from your side. And she did. If anything, you were actually relieved. The world and acceptance you had craved from Mina was never one that you had really needed. Finally, you felt free to be whoever you wanted to be, and not worry about the opinions of others. You had based so much on that temporary connection, when in reality you were just as successful in your own path in life. You didn’t need the approval of someone else to be you.
Your families were actually thrilled with the delay of your nuptials too, and your mother rejoiced at having a lot longer to execute the perfect wedding. So did you. Knowing that you only planned on marrying Hyunwoo once, it was definitely a priority to ensure it was the most magical moment of your life.
But so was getting to know your fiancé more.
Neither Hyunwoo or yourself decided to drop back to the basics in dating. You did have a really long engagement though. You dated, you learned, you travelled together and you fell in love. Well, more in love. Because you were certain you had loved Hyunwoo right from the beginning of the contract when he accepted your proposal.
Speaking of which, he ripped the contract up as soon as it was established your fake relationship had ended. And he had promised to propose to you properly one day when he was sure you were ready for it.
And even though you prepared for the event every now and then over the next year, wondering when he would pop the question, you were totally not ready for it. Once again you had underestimated how efficient he was when it came to knowing the insides of your brain and heart. You were certain that the dramas you had perused over the years had nothing on how special you felt in the moment when he went down on one knee in front of you.
Today would top that moment, however.
“Where’s the veil?!” Tanith cried, darting around the suite in a panic looking for the item. You pointed to where the bag sat on the table across from you and directed your frazzled maid of honour’s attention to it. Once holding it in her hand, she returned to your side, glancing up at you. “How are you this calm? Where are your pre-wedding jitters? Why am I the only one panicking here?!”
“Mum actually has a bottle of wine in the other room right now that she’s poured a glass for herself from so I don’t think you’re the only one who’s nervous.”
Tanith eyed you cautiously. “But you’re not nervous? Is this the calm before the storm?”
“No,” you replied with a laugh, shaking your head softly. “There is going to be no storm today.”
“You’re really calm about this?” Tanith repeated, and you gave her a look. “Aren’t most brides worried at this point in the schedule of their special day? What if you trip going down the aisle to Hyunwoo?”
“He’ll catch me.”
“Or you fumble over your words?”
You grinned. “He’ll probably prompt me with what I’m meant to say instead.”
“Well, I guess since he is so efficient, you would feel at ease.”
“There is the knowledge that Hyunwoo is the most reliable human I will ever know, but it’s not that at all. I’m just ready.”
“Ready?”
You nodded, smiling again. Touching the lush fabric that adorned your body, you blinked back your emotions before turning back to your best friend. “I’m ready to be his wife.”
When the signal that it was time came, you stepped out into the hallway where you greeted your father, smiling widely at the paternal figure who was now shedding tears. You gripped his hand encouragingly as you waited to step in behind everyone else, if anything, now excited to see Hyunwoo waiting for you at the other end.
The music began as you stepped into the venue and you briefly watched as your guests all stood to see you walk in. As soon as you found Hyunwoo’s stare however, you forgot all about everyone else around you. It took all your effort not to race down the path before you and collide against him. He seemed to share this thought and chuckled a little, blinking back his emotions at seeing you like this before him.
And whilst you were so used to seeing him in suits now, you decided this was your favourite one yet.
When your hand was transferred from your father’s to your impending husband’s, you felt as if you had stepped into Nirvana. All these years of having Hyunwoo at your side as your personal assistant and then your fiancé were pretty magical.
But having your happily ever after with your husband as soon as you said I do?
It was the best kind of contract you would ever make.
“Do you need a hand there, Mrs Son?” You spun to see your husband approach you, his hands reaching for the myriad of laces, zips and hooks that strapped you into this elegant dress. As his nimble fingers helped you out of your gown, his lips fell to your exposed shoulder, chuckling into the sensitive part of your neck a moment later. “Even as newlyweds, you still need me to assist you with everything.”
Once you knew you could finish it off, you turned, facing Hyunwoo and reaching out for the buttons on his shirt. “I’m sure you need my help with this as well.”
“Are you saying you will assist me now too?” he asked and you hid your smile, shrugging lightly. “Only when it suits you?”
“Well, you are so exceptionally good at what you do and I have my own roles in life too. You can’t expect me to suddenly change and assist you when I’m so used to leading.”
“Huh.”
You grinned up at your husband teasingly, palming his now exposed chest with your hands. God, he was always so warm. “But I did mean what I said earlier. I’ll make you the happiest man on this earth as your wife.”
“You already did that before marriage. You need to offer something more,” he bargained and you gaped at him, your mind hurrying to bring forth a response. He chuckled again, leaning down to kiss your lips. “Do you need me to prompt you?”
“I’ll carry our children,” you blurted out and Hyunwoo visibly faltered.
“You’re… you’re ready for that already?”
“Well, I mean, when the time-”
“Oh no, if that’s the offer you’re giving me for my assistance,” he started, scooping you and the volume of your gown up into his embrace before continuing, a smirk laced within his remaining words. “I’ll make sure that you fulfil your obligations as well as I do.”
Marrying your personal assistant wasn’t something you had ever imagined initially. But you couldn’t think of anyone better suited for the job.
The End.

The alcohol flowed down your throat more easily once dinner was over and when Tanith attempted to convince you to stop; you merely shook your head and hiccupped. You could still feel your burdens and you craved to be weightless.
The only answer you had to your predicament was to effectively forget it.
At least for tonight, anyway.
And so you continued your self-inflicted journey, each new round of alcohol making you feel warmer and then effectively frozen once downed. You wanted to hold something more than the glass you cradled within your hands. It had comforted you thus far, steeling your heart and loaning you some liquid courage.
And somehow it had produced Hyunwoo in front of you as well.
“Oh! Woo is here. Hyunwoo-woo-woooo!”
Hyunwoo didn’t respond to your calling, talking to someone who you weren’t able to see within the haze of your mind. When he turned back to you however, you grinned lazily, lifting your arms up and falling against him. Drunken stupor or not, you were well aware of how strong his arms were, and you enjoyed the feeling of them around you as he helped you out of the bar and into his car. You whined when his support left you, shivering against your seat. You were lonely again.
“Why did you drink so much?” he asked once on the road and you blindly threw a hand out, dismissing the question as you nuzzled into the upholstery. Now that you were within his comfort, you were exhausted. You could feel your dreams reaching out to take a hold of you, lulling you into a world where Hyunwoo was yours and not because of a contract.
And then you stirred, realising his arms were around you again. He had scooped you out of his car, lifting you with ease into his embrace. You froze, unsure if you liked being up this high. It was too dangerous and sobering being this close to his face with you bubbling feelings right under the surface.
The alcohol had done nothing to remove them and if anything, you had the sudden realisation that this would hurt a whole heap more in the morning. You groaned.
And Hyunwoo chuckled. “Why would you drink so much if you were going to regret it?”
“Do I have to answer that?” You patted him on the shoulder gently. “You can put me down. I can walk, I think.”
He was vexed by your request, unsure if it was safe to do so. You gave him a firm look and he reluctantly set you down on your feet. Silently thanking Hyunwoo, you turned on your heel and went to walk inside your apartment block, losing your footing a moment later and ending up wedged between a wall and Hyunwoo’s body.
You should have stayed in his arms, this was considerably much worse.
Although you could feel some of the effects wearing off from your self-inflicted haze, there were remnants of the carefree nature the alcohol lingering in your system. With Hyunwoo pressed up against you like this, entrapping you effectively from doing anything but soul-searching his face, you felt another heady state envelope you instead. Your hand involuntarily reached for his cheek, cupping it tenderly as you gasped at your sudden connection.
It was his turn to groan now. “You’re always like this with me.”
“I’m what?”
“I can never figure out how you feel towards me, Y/N. Every time you get drunk, this always happens.” He ran a hand through his hair unsteadily, and for the first time, you saw how vulnerable he was. The turmoil was evident right in front of you, held within your hand.
It didn’t take you more than a second to reach for his lips in hopes to remove some of it.
You had expected a burst of passion or some fantastic sense of this being the most magical moment of your life. You had envisioned kissing Hyunwoo for days now. And yet here you were doing just that and the only thought that came to mind was how familiar his lips felt.
They were like a home you hadn’t visited in some time, melding against yours in a way that your brain remembered and also didn’t. The kiss, laced with the taste of bitterness from the alcohol and something sweet that he had eaten earlier, was something you had tasted before. The moment washed over you heavily with déjà vu and yet you couldn’t finger point why.
You pulled back, breathless, looking up into Hyunwoo’s eyes. They were blown wide with lust. You had seen this before too. Gripping onto his arms, you shook your head, trying to decipher why all of this felt like you had done it before.
“You never remember in the morning. Not once,” he admitted, his gaze growing guarded, protecting him from allowing you to see anything further. You blinked slowly, watching as the shared moment retreated from his expression and then Hyunwoo went to move his arms away as well. You gripped on, urging him to stay.
“This… has happened before?”
“Y/N, don’t make me fall for you even more. It’s cruel of you to do this to me time and time again. I’m equally as foolish for allowing you to.”
Your mind reeled with the answer in between his words. You had kissed Hyunwoo before. Possibly more than once. And you never remembered because you only did it when you drank too much. You grappled at clarity, shooting him an accusing look. “You could have told me.”
“You never remembered. Would you have believed me if I told you that you kissed me when you were drunk? It would only lead to awkwardness and distance from you which would make our working relationship a nightmare to navigate.”
Once again you were reminded of just how well he knew you. It annoyed you completely, no matter how much you had learned over the past few weeks, he was still so far ahead of you. He had protected your vulnerable moments, buried your rash decisions and carried his own burdens of being unable to admit you had done this before. He was too good at assisting you that he didn’t seem to realise how little he was regarding his own place in the situation. It annoyed you further.
You looked up at Hyunwoo, squaring your jaw. “Hyunwoo, I need you to do something for me.”
“What can I assist you with?” he asked, and for once you were grateful for his inability to remain unshackled from his position. The statement was weak in delivery; his eyes trying to find the answer before you spoke it.
“You have to ensure I remember this time.”
You could already feel the regret before you attempted to open your eyes. Your head throbbed and your stomach was upset. You didn’t feel steady despite knowing you were laying in your bed, feeling as if the world was spinning around you whilst you remained closed off from seeing it.
And then you felt the comfort of a hand on your stomach, gently running slow circles over your skin.
Sitting upright, you groaned over several things. The sudden movement made your head slosh about, intensifying the ache within it. Your eyes snapped open, and the bright morning light burned as if you were staring into the sun itself. And the hand that had been on you smacked into your ribcage, taking your breath away in the process.
“That wasn’t very clever, now was it?”
You looked towards the voice, finding Hyunwoo at your side. Okay, so you were dreaming. Because no matter how much you wanted this, there was no way he would ever find himself within your bed.
Not even when you were married. You were convinced of this.
Yet the world around you seemed too painful to be made up. In every dream you had ever had, not once had you experienced the sting of a hangover as much as you were now. And you could see the sleep within his eyes that had barely opened themselves.
You squealed, wondering how on earth you were sharing your bed with your personal assistant. Pointing out at him shakily, you slowly moved to poke into the flesh of his upper arm. Hyunwoo was really there.
And looking rather amused with your dramatics.
“What happened?! Why are you in my bed? How come you look so good first thing in the morning? Can you even see out of the squint of your eyes right now?”
His husky chuckle only sent you into overdrive and you shifted back, untrusting of yourself.
“What should I answer first?”
“Everything I asked,” you implored and Hyunwoo nodded simply.
“You got drunk and your friend called me to help bring you home. You then kissed me when I was taking you up to your apartment and insisted on making sure I didn’t let you forget this time around. And then when I tried to leave you in your bedroom, you proclaimed you wouldn’t trust me in the morning if you didn’t wake up to something as ridiculous as this, not to mention you fell asleep on me before I so much as had a chance to move away from putting you down. I’m not sure if I really look good in the morning since my face gets puffy but I can assure you that I can see despite how little my eyes appear to be open as I’m afraid to say, your hangover doesn’t make you look very appealing to me this morning. I’m a little disappointed to wake up beside you for the first time and see you like this actually.”
Well, you could trust in Hyunwoo to always fill you in on any situation in a straight-forward manner, regardless of the facts he had to share.
Embarrassment flooding your features, you held up a hand to silence the conversation, mumbling that you were going to shower before heading slowly yet purposely to your bathroom. Once you were somewhat resembling a proper human being again, you moved out into your living room, where you found Hyunwoo in the kitchen. Your heart skipped a beat in seeing his back profile in your apartment cooking breakfast. You shook your thoughts away, not trusting your emotions at all this morning.
“I remember,” you told him as soon as you were in the same space as he was and Hyunwoo smiled. “I remember the kiss this time around.”
“That’s a relief.”
Really, that was it? As you had internalised everything under the condescending rain of water in the shower, you had come to the conclusion of expecting some kind of confession from the man if you told him what you knew. After all, you distinctively remembered his earnest frustration of last night now that you were awake. That had to encourage some kind of feeling from him, right? He had wanted you to remember in the past and now that you did, well, he wasn’t very forthcoming with a reaction. You stood there dumbfounded, and Hyunwoo continued to cook. When your silence became unbearable though, he finally turned to look at you, running his gaze from your head to toe. His eyes rounded ever so slightly and his grip on the spoon he was using to cook with slipped.
“What’s wrong?” You shifted to the food he had now abandoned, taking the spoon from his fingers before it fell entirely and stirred the soup he was working on, your gaze darting between the food and him.
“Huh?”
“You just froze up, what did you see that made you react like that?” you continued, prodding him gently. Hyunwoo flinched, still highly affected. Your heart started to thump harder, or maybe it was your head, but the way he had turned to stare at you was kind of hard not to drown within. And unlike him, you weren’t much of a swimmer.
“I saw you.”
“And?”
“Is this how you look every morning before you get ready for the day?” he wondered and you shrugged, unable to say anything with how much your mind was swirling. Hyunwoo smiled. “If this is what I’ve been missing out on, I can’t wait for the rest of our married life to wake up and see you like this.”
Eyes wide from his statement, you said the first thing that came to mind. “I don’t want to marry you.”
Wait, what did you just say?!

“Why didn’t you just say no?!”
You groaned as you paced the length of the windowed wall, the stress of Saturday still overwhelming you now at work on Monday. You had hoped with hiding out in your apartment all day long yesterday that it would have given you enough time to find a solution.
Instead, all you had done was ruminate over what had happened, consumed far too much chocolate and dug a deeper hole by answering can’t wait to a text you received from Mina about the dinner invitation.
With your currently non-existent fiancé.
“Y/N, do you know anyone who could be your stand in?” Tanith continued and you shook your head, which soon began to throb. You pressed your hands to your temples, looking accusingly at the telephone on the desk that you currently had on speaker. You knew deep down you only had yourself to blame for this headache. “Surely someone as successful as you would have someone you’ve made a business transaction with over the years that you could just ask for a favour from.”
“I can’t just ask for a couple of dates with someone to fool everyone, Tanith. This is Kim Mina we’re talking about. She’s expecting it all now, I’ve agreed to dinner together, from there it will be planning and then shopping for, oh my god, a wedding dress, and everything else in between the big day!”
“You’re being over the top. Stop and think about this for a moment.”
“I haven’t stopped thinking about it all weekend long,” you reiterated, your tone suddenly exhausted. Your feet began to ache and you walked back to your desk, sitting down and rested your head down on the table top. “There’s no way out.”
“All you need is a few moments together with someone you trust at your side, please a few people and then cancel it all. Say you rushed the idea of marriage and found you weren’t compatible with him. There, you’re off the hook.”
“I’d rather get married to someone I don’t even love than break off an engagement, Tanith. My god, that would be too embarrassing!”
“As will turning up empty-handed because you faked having a fiancé!”
You groaned heavily right as the door clicked open and you glanced up at your personal assistant as he entered the room. Smiling weakly, you went back to your disgruntled position in front of the call.
If there was anyone who had seen you at your best and worst in life, it was Son Hyunwoo. He had been your right-hand man for so long now; you wouldn’t know what to do without him. Whilst you were loud and brazen, he was quiet and practical, grounding you from making any hasty calculations and subtlety pushing you when didn’t know what to do. And most of all, Hyunwoo was someone who had never judged you, following every request you had. You felt yourself relax in his company, even if he was only entering to hand you the month-end reports you had asked for from the sales department this morning.
“Y/N, you just need to find someone, anyone and face the mess you’ve created. You have been against marrying all those men your parents set you up with but maybe you should’ve impressed at least one of them so you could bail yourself out of this situation.”
“Thank you Hyunwoo,” you mentioned as you noticed the papers settle down near your head and watched as his footsteps retreated back out of the office. And then you groaned for the umpteenth time today. “I don’t know what to do, Tanith.”
“What about Hyunwoo?”
“What about him?” you asked, straightening up in your chair and looking out of your office blinds to the desk that sat outside it where Hyunwoo was already back at work. As if he had some innate ability to know whenever you were staring at him, he glanced away from his computer and gave you a slight nod of his head at your gaze, waiting to see if you needed him again. You merely smiled before spinning your chair around to face the windows. You were up so high in this office and not once had you ever feared the view. Right now though, you felt anxious, as if you might meet the ground far too soon.
“Ask him!”
You froze and then cursed loudly. “Tanith, he is my personal assistant!”
“And he could personally assist you with this problem.”
“I thought I was the one who had gone mad. I work with Hyunwoo; I’m not going to bring him into my complicated personal affairs.”
“Remember that night when you drank one too many cocktails with me and you were dating Jude Morrison? You didn’t ring your boyfriend to come collect you, instead you rung your secretary.”
“And how many times have I told you that it was out of habit? I turn to Hyunwoo for everything, it wouldn’t have even crossed my mind to think of Jude first.” You huffed; feeling attacked all of a sudden.
“If you turn to him for everything, why can’t you turn to him over this?”
“Well, because…” You spun your chair to look out at him again and once more Hyunwoo met your gaze. You uncharacteristically blushed and diverted your eyes to the wall of your credentials instead. “It has to be anyone but him.”
You tried to shake off the nagging sensation for the rest of the week. So far, you hadn’t thought of anyone, and you were still too shameless to admit that Mina had mistaken the ring. No, you had decided it was far too late to turn back now. Except, you were still stranded without anyone to help you.
Well, almost.
Tanith’s words haunted you day and night, distracting you in meetings and interrupting your much-needed sleep. Hyunwoo was now on your mind a whole lot more than usual. You were increasingly aware of his little habits towards you, like when you felt the need for coffee and he would somehow know how to turn up with one.
A small part of you was concerned he was telepathic and would know that you were thinking of him in a way that was highly inappropriate for a boss and personal assistant relationship. It made you jittery in his company, which wasn’t unnoticed by him.
True to his nature, he didn’t ask much. Sure, he wondered if you were alright once out loud, but when you told him you were fine, he didn’t pester you about it. Even though you both knew you had lied.
Because you weren’t fine, and it was his job to know it.
Friday had arrived and you were ready for the weekend. Meetings for the new release of a new product line were arduous and with your lack of sleep you just wanted to hibernate in bed for the following two days to recuperate. The morning had dragged, and the afternoon seemed full of tasks that required your complete attention. Which meant it was well into the evening when you were finally able to call it a day.
After leaving your office, you stepped out into the foyer outside it, noticing Hyunwoo was still at his desk. You blinked. “Didn’t you leave when everyone else did?”
“Clearly not, since I’m still here.” His wry smile made you chuckle and you nodded softly as he got to his feet. You decided to wait with him and walk out together.
“What are your plans for the weekend?” you wondered and Hyunwoo glanced at you questioningly. You frowned. Had you never asked him that before? Surely you had.
“I’m going to the pool.”
“The pool?” you continued, stepping into the elevator. Hyunwoo nodded softly. “You swim?”
“I was on the university team, remember?”
“Right, of course!” you mentioned with a laugh and then fell silent for a moment.
“What about you, Y/N?” Hyunwoo asked, staring straight ahead at the doors. You sighed, not sure how to answer him.
Your phone dinged off then and you smiled appreciatively at Hyunwoo before checking who messaged you.
Of course, it was Mina trying to finalise a date. You took a sharp breath in and gripped at your phone. The doors to the elevator sprung open now that it was at the underground parking lot, but you didn’t move.
You didn’t want to do anything anymore.
“Y/N, is there something I can help you with?” Hyunwoo offered and you looked up into his warm eyes, you now lost without a cause. All rationale was gone and the words tumbled from your mouth before you could stop them.
“Could you marry me?”
Hyunwoo didn’t miss a beat to answer you, though you noticed how round his gaze had become. He nodded. “I could.”

So just like that, you had a fiancé.
You were still kind of reeling from it all, even though you hadn’t really had time to process any of it. Last night, Hyunwoo had said yes to your marriage proposal and now he was sitting across from you in your apartment, sans his usual work suit, waiting for you to speak.
Right, because this was your crazy idea in the first place.
“So uh, I ended up getting caught wearing a ring in front of someone influential. She knows literally everyone in my life and whilst it was working as a great decoy on my blind dates, I couldn’t quite fathom how to say it was fake to her.”
Hyunwoo nodded, simply accepting your explanation as if it wasn’t the stupidest and most cowardly thing he had heard you say.
You nodded as well and then continued. “So now she’s expecting me to get married.”
“When do we need to?”
“Wait, you’re fine with all this?” you wondered incredulously, shaking your head. “This is ridiculous.”
“Well, I won’t say I was expecting you to enter such a situation but you’ve chosen to go ahead with this fake marriage. There’s not much to do other than plan for what is to occur next.”
Sometimes you disliked how straight-forward Hyunwoo was. He would always look for the concluded answer and plan immediately from there. It was an occupational hazard, and you wondered if you had relied on him too much over the years to help you through too many issues.
This had to top the list though.
“Don’t you want to get married because you love someone?”
Hyunwoo nodded again. “I believed I would marry because I want to spend the rest of my life with that person.”
“Marrying me would kind of prevent that from happening,” you mumbled, already mourning for the prospective wife you were stealing from his side. You sighed heavily.
“What about you?” You glanced over at him, and Hyunwoo smiled weakly. “I know you didn’t want to marry any of the men your parents presented to you. Wasn’t that because you wanted romance and true love as well?”
How did he know that? You had never expressed your romantic side in front of him before. Then again, you hadn’t expressed your accurate body size to him either and yet he was able to get anything tailored to fit you without so much as asking once.
You revisited your thoughts about him being telepathic and Hyunwoo’s warm round eyes simply bored back at you, waiting for direction.
“I guess it’s a bit too late for that,” you announced weakly, wringing a hand over your other wrist mindlessly. You laughed awkwardly. “Do you have any ideas on how to start a fake marriage?”
Hyunwoo turned to the satchel bag he carried everywhere and produced two copies of something. You peered forward at them and took the one he handed you. “I did research last night if there was a way to contractually create a marriage. It’s more common than you think. So I drew up these provisional contracts as a basis to build upon.”
A marriage contract?
You had signed so many contracts over your lifetime but you had never expected a need for one of these. In saying that though, it relaxed you to have some sense of structure to this situation. You believed that a contract was something you could rely upon, especially when it came to working with Hyunwoo. He was prompt and efficient and so you instantly felt some of your burdens lift away.
A contract with him would be straight-forward and you would know exactly what to expect at all times.
You read through the clauses, each one seeming relatively agreeable. He had covered the basics of planning a matching story, how to address friends and family about the marriage, what was expected from both parties, and most importantly when it would end.
You glanced up at Hyunwoo, a slight tilt to your head. “Two years?”
“From what I gathered, most parties who enter an agreement such as this set a time-frame of two to three years. In two years time, we could terminate our marriage contract. It will allow you ample time to find someone suitable in a romantic manner afterwards.”
“You thought of everything,” you told him and he seemed pleased with your praise. You then noticed one thing was missing from the contract. Flipping through the pages and scanning every clause again, you then glanced up at Hyunwoo. “There’s no mention of what will happen if we fall in love?”
Hyunwoo didn’t respond to your statement, unyielding with his emotions. You blushed at the penetrable gaze and then chewed at your lip. “I mean, not that I’m expecting us to but-”
“I’ve been at your side for seven years now, Y/N. Have you fallen in love with me yet?” The question was loaded, though his tone was even, void of emotion like usual.
You didn’t know to respond. Should you laugh at how preposterous your feeble thought had been? Smile and tell him you were simply testing to see what his reaction would be to such a question? Really, you were genuinely concerned. The longer you stared at Hyunwoo; you felt the question settle in your chest. You had been together longer than any other relationship in your lifetime. Apart from Tanith and your family, Hyunwoo had been at your side through all the hard and good times ever since you started your company fresh out of university. If either of you were to become romantically involved with one another, it would have occurred by now.
Hyunwoo wasn’t asking you a loaded question at all; he was reminding you just how at ease you were with him.
You smiled. “Of course, there’s no chance of that.”
The preparation for your dinner date at Mina’s was easier than you had originally thought. You were fortunate you both had the excuse of working closely with one another over these years that Hyunwoo advised it would make sense your working relationship naturally progressed further over one too many long nights alone together in the office. There wouldn’t be any need to have some extravagant story of how you fell in love then, and conversation would easily shift forward. Once again, you were pleasantly surprised by his efficiency and when he picked you up for the dinner you had been invited to, your nerves melted away.
Hyunwoo looked the part, in one of his suits, though he had relaxed how he had done the collar, leaving a couple of buttons undone. You reached out instinctively before hopping into his car, smiling up at him. “You should do this more often. You don’t look as stiff.”
He smiled but didn’t respond, helping you into the vehicle and then drove to the destination. Although you were relaxed in his company, that changed as soon as you were following a staff member of Mina’s residence up into the house. You gripped at your small clutch and jumped when Hyunwoo’s hand slipped around your arm, hooking it so you could grip onto him instead.
You gave him a desperate look and he nodded, his eyes reading just as they usually did when you were nervous. It’s going to be okay. Just treat it like a business transaction.
I am here.
You nodded back at him before turning to face the greeting of the woman of the house squealing at you both. “Oh Y/N! I am so glad you actually came! This is wonderful! Haven’t I seen your fiancé before somewhere though?”
“I’m Son Hyunwoo,” he greeted immediately, reaching to shake the hand Mina had extended out to him. “I have been at Y/N’s side for many years now.”
“Oh!” Mina cried, nodding in recognition before turning back to you. “You fell in love with your personal assistant? Did you two just fall out of a drama together?! How romantic!”
You smiled; hoping your extensive knowledge of watching said romantic dramas over the years would come in handy tonight.

Could You Marry Me? - Part 4

Genre: office au / ceo x personal assistant / co-workers to lovers au / romance / fluff / fake dating
Warnings: none
Index: Preview | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7
Perhaps you did have the luck of being like a drama couple on your side. Dinner had gone well; you had everyone convinced that you and Hyunwoo had fallen in love within the office. It helped that he knew little nuances about you that could cement parts of your storyline, and even you hadn’t been aware that he had picked up on your little habits like twirling your pen in your hair mindlessly when working at your desk.
Your surprise was genuine and so the reaction was positive.
“We need to get together again soon!” Mina gushed and you nodded happily, holding her hand in yours and feeling entirely warm. Normally you had been kept at arm’s length, not having the ability to quite match her playing field. Now that you were engaged however, you wondered if becoming closer friends would be possible with her. You didn’t realise you had wanted to be a part of her circle until now.
This desire fuelled you on. From what had been one dinner date was now having lunch with Mina a couple of times a week and you even started planning your wedding together.
Which didn’t seem as scary as you believed it would be.
“You really don’t have anything planned yet, do you?”
“Well, we just recently got engaged,” you reminded Mina over the phone, twirling your pen in your hair and catching yourself in the act. You glanced out your office window towards Hyunwoo’s desk, smiling lightly when he caught your gaze. He blinked before smiling back, returning to his work and you swung around in your chair. “We have plenty of time to plan a wedding.”
You had briefly discussed with Hyunwoo about this when you went over the contract. Knowing you were the only daughter of an affluent family meant you couldn’t just skimp out and have a private wedding. But you had proposed having the wedding sooner rather than later. It would mean most of the more expensive venues would be fully booked out and you would save costs by limiting the time you had to plan. Whilst you knew your parents would be thrilled as long as you had a husband at the end of the day, you also knew giving your mother the opportunity to plan for a long period of time would be disastrous for keeping this marriage contained.
Considering it was a fake marriage as well, you felt guilty enough for even allowing them to pay for the ceremony.
“What date did you decide on?”
“Uh, well we’re hoping to talk to my parents this weekend about it,” you started, staring at the small desk calendar where you had pencilled in ‘meeting with family’. Forcing a smile despite being on the phone, you tapped at your desk for an answer to crop up. “But maybe a spring wedding?”
“Spring is only two and a half months away, Y/N! You don’t have time if you want to plan everything! Oh my goodness, that’s it! I’m putting myself in charge of helping you with this. As someone who is already married, I know what needs to be implemented immediately.”
“Oh, no I wouldn’t want to ask that of you.”
“I insist! So I’ll come around to your apartment after dinner tonight to get some of this inspiration really flowing, okay?”
So that’s how you ended up rushing through your final meeting for the day, dashing home and standing awkwardly in your front entryway letting Mina into your apartment soon after.
“It’s so cute!” she enthused, smiling brightly at you as she placed down her bag, looking around. She then turned to smile again at you. “I remember the days before Jihwan and I lived together. Though we moved in before our marriage because we couldn’t handle being apart from each other.”
You smiled as she giggled, and then you realised Mina was subtlety asking why you and Hyunwoo weren’t living together yet. You cleared your throat. “We have decided to move in after we’re married. Since we work side by side so intimately now, we already know we’ll be able to live together as well.”
“That makes some sense, though there’s always so much more to learn about the person once you start sharing the same space,” she agreed and you relaxed at her acceptance. “Oh! Can I use the bathroom? It’ll be the first time I get to go without an audience. My son tends to think the bathroom is public domain when Mummy is in there.”
Chuckling, you directed Mina to the right door and then set about making some tea whilst she was in there. When she returned, she was frowning. “Do you see Hyunwoo out of the office?”
“Of course I do, he’s my fiancé after all.”
Mina sat down and took the mug you held out to her, still perplexed. Then she turned to you for answers. “Does he not stay over?”
“He… he does.”
“It’s odd that he doesn’t see the convenience of leaving his toiletries here. I noticed there was no toothbrush in the jar next to yours and no sign of his skincare either. Come to think of it, there were no slippers in the doo-”
“He’s a little particular about these things,” you interrupted with a laugh that sounded desperate to regain her confidence. You were unsettled, feeling this magical world she had encompassed you in start to darken around the edges for the fake you truly were. You attempted to smile. “I’ve been trying to convince him to just keep a set of everything here for practicality for weeks now but he likes to use his own things from home and cart them over when he stays.”
“He sounds rather efficient.”
You relaxed, nodding with ease over a word you used to describe him often.
It was a shame that you yourself weren’t nearly as onto things as you thought you had been. Once Mina was gone, you rung Hyunwoo in a frantic state, barely stopping to listen to how sleepy he sounded on the other end. You glanced at the time, cringing at how late it was.
“Yes, Y/N?”
“Tomorrow after work, we need to go shopping.”
“Is this necessary?” Hyunwoo asked as you grabbed from the shelves and dumped multiple toothbrushes into your cart. He eyed your excessive number of items and then sighed. “I’m sure your explanation has eased her mind and it isn’t as if you will often have her over to your apartment.”
You nodded mindlessly, looking at shaving cream and then at Hyunwoo. He pressed his lips together in a firm line before stretching above you for the brand he preferred. He placed one into the cart and you reached for two others to stock in the cabinet under the sink. “I don’t think it was a once off, Hyunwoo. She’ll be back over again and this time I’ll be prepared for her.”
“With the way you’re preparing, it’s going to be overboard,” he commented with a sigh, shaking his head along with it.
And yet he humoured you.
He allowed you to grab for things you needed, chiding you for the items you didn’t. Soon, he was replacing your ill-informed choices with his own, laughing at you constantly. He even shunted you playfully when you reached for couple clothing. And unlike every other boyfriend you had tried this tactic in the past with, he didn’t object to it, smiling down at the matching outfits. You decided you had uncovered that Hyunwoo had a softer side to him than all the smarts suits and capable assistance you were too used of.
It made your heart skip without you quite understanding it.
“Shall we go get coffee?” you suggested and he nodded more freely than usual, smiling warmly at you as he pointed to a nearby café. You grinned and once your purchases were in the trunk of his car, you followed him into the coffee shop.
And then you stared up at him blankly.
Why didn’t you know what he drank? He could list off your order every time without missing a beat, and yet here you were trying to decide if he was an Americano or latte kind of guy.
What surprised you was Hyunwoo actually waited for you to decide. At work, whenever you hesitated, he would be prompt in sweeping in to speak for you, to direct the conversation in a way that you could effectively continue after his save. Right now, he was remaining tight-lipped, albeit with a ghost of a smile tugging up the corners of his mouth.
You let out a small indignant breath at him playing coy.
“Ma’am, your order?”
With a final glance in Hyunwoo’s direction, you ordered two drinks and then took the number handed to you by the clerk, firmly spinning around and moving to a table along the far wall. Hyunwoo chuckled when he sat down. “You don’t know anything about your fiancé.”
“Excuse me?!” you responded immediately, guilt filling your chest at his statement. He was entirely right but with the uncharacteristically playful expression still evident in his eyes, you didn’t want to back down either. “I happen to know some things about you.”
“Like?”
“You look really good in suits,” you admitted and you were certain his ears reddened at your compliment. It gave you instant confidence to continue. “And you look just as good out of them.”
“Huh.”
You smirked. “See, I know some things.”
“I guess you do,” he agreed, taking the drink the clerk handed to him and staring in at the contents. You were hesitant, hoping that an Americano was the right pick. Hyunwoo lifted the drink to his lips, smiling when he put it down after taking a sip. “Not bad.”
“You don’t drink it? I thought you’d be a simple coffee drinker. Nothing too fancy.”
“I’m actually fond of caramel macchiato,” he replied, surprising you at his choice.
You eyed him carefully, wondering if he was teasing you. Hyunwoo’s emotions didn’t betray him. You huffed. “So maybe I need to learn more about you then.”
He merely smiled, not denying nor agreeing with you. And the longer you stared at him smiling like that, you found yourself grinning back.
And then you giggled. “It’s like we’re dating, don’t you think?”
You hadn’t meant to blurt it out and cringed immediately at such a foolish remark. You weren’t deluded or anything, you knew Hyunwoo was here with you, going through all of this because of you. To assist you. And yet, when he smiled so easily like that, for the smallest of time, you wondered why you hadn’t seen this side to him until now.
You kind of liked it.
He didn’t seem put out by the statement, in fact, he was still smiling. Hyunwoo then glanced up at you, his eyes full of warmth. “Let’s class this as our first date then.”

Right Now
Pairing: Lee Taemin x female reader
Genre: fluff, established relationship au / domestic au
Warnings: it’s so sickeningly cute that you might get a cavity. Also slight suggestive tone at the end
A/N: After hearing Marry You for the first time, I came up with this silly little idea. It wouldn’t leave me alone, so I decided to write it out. I hope you can enjoy this playful piece.
Word count: 972
“I could get used to this,” you murmured with a lazy smile, squinting against the morning light to look at the man next to you.
Taemin chuckled. “Seeing me wake up? I look a mess.”
“An adorable mess,” you corrected, fluffing his bed hair with your fingers playfully.
“You need a mirror to see the damage to your own hair.”
“Not right now. I’m content with looking like this. It’s not a concern. I know no matter how I look, you love me.”
“Bold statement to share,” Taemin joked, feigning deep thought a moment later. He couldn’t control his lips splitting into the widest smile. “Okay, it’s pretty accurate.”
“You took thirty seconds to answer!”
“Would you take thirty seconds too?”
“To tell you that I love you? No way. I’d just say it. I love you. I love you. I love youuuuu.”
Giggling together, you sighed with giddiness when Taemin pulled you in closer, brushing his lips over your forehead before resting into you. “I want to marry you.”
“Really?” you asked, trying to not explode with elation. “When?”
“Right now,” he murmured into your hair.
“Then let’s get married right now,” you answered, and Taemin shifted back to laugh incredulously.
“Y/N, we can’t.”
“Then why ask me to marry you right now?”
“It’s just a saying,” he said with slight confusion, scratching his messy hair with a pout on his lips.
You couldn’t resist kissing it away.
Taemin was still thinking about it minutes later. “…Can we get married right now?”
“Taem, I knew you were just being sweet,” you assured him, and he shook his head, moving away from you and rolling over to the nightstand.
“No, wait. I think we can. I already have the ring, and we can improvise on my-”
You almost choked on your saliva with surprise. “You… you have a ring already?!”
“Mm. Why wouldn’t I?”
“You were planning on proposing some time?” you questioned, and Taemin beamed you a smile, biting his bottom lip in attempts to rein in his excitement.
“Should I not? Don’t you want to marry me?”

Love (Ruff) You More
Pairing: Mark Tuan x female reader
Genre: fluff / domestic au / established relationship
Warnings: some bad dog habits led to this becoming an idea, lol. Mentioning of sexual intercourse but no actual smut scene present.
A/N: This is dedicated to the lovely @giantmuschroom who loves dogs just as much as I do and I’ve been planning on writing this story for her birthday since last year, haha! Sorry that I’m a couple days late in sharing it with you, Ela! <3
Word count: 1871
“Do you want to stay over?” you asked softly. Mark took his gaze off the TV screen to look at you immediately, a smile growing across his face. You grew hopeful. “Yeah?”
“Yeah,” he confirmed, pulling you into his side and kissing the top of your head before going back to the movie.
You couldn’t concentrate, however. Now that you had asked your boyfriend to stay the night, you were excited. It wasn’t just about the physical aspect either. You wanted nothing more than to wake up next to Mark and bask in the glory of the morning after. The idea of waking up snuggled into his side sounded so blissful, you started to grin giddily at the imagery within your mind.
Your fantasy was interrupted rudely, much as your snuggle session right now. Your dog Luna woke up from the brief nap she had at your feet and launched up at you both, pushing herself in between you.
“Luna!” you exclaimed sternly, but the large dog refuted your cry by sitting down on top of you, her loyal eyes staring at you hopelessly.
Mark chuckled. “She sure doesn’t like it when I give you attention, huh?”
“I’ve spoiled her, like a fool,” you replied with a sigh, shunting the dog off your lap, only for her to start whining and scoot closer. You smiled awkwardly at Mark. “I wasn’t expecting to date any time soon.”
“Did you plan to be forever alone?” he teased, and you shrugged.
It wasn’t exactly a lie. You had tried dating in the past. University years were hard. You were awkward and shy and spent more time studying for your degree than figuring out how to become more social. You did try, but it always felt a bit off. You never felt quite accepted when out at parties or the campus bar.
So you turned to online dating. You found it easier to converse online, though weeding through the guys who only wanted one thing from you made the list of decent options pretty small. Again, you met up with only a small amount of guys before you decided it wasn’t really working out.
Your energy once graduated shifted to your career and being a librarian didn’t exactly lead to secret rendezvous in the back aisles as you had read of in romance books. It was actually a rather solitary job, one in which had systems and cataloguing at the forefront. You were often busy from start to finish of every shift, and the small interaction you had was with students looking for class materials, not for someone to press into a bookshelf.
And so, you adopted your canine companion. Raising Luna brought you immense joy, and you weren’t alone anymore. You shared your bed with her, ate dinner together, and curled up on the couch watching a movie often. Sure, Luna wasn’t fulfilling your hopeless romantic needs, but she did allow you to nurture someone.
You had been content being just you two.
Smiling at Mark, you reached over Luna to link your hand with his. “She’ll adapt, much as I have with having someone like me back.”
“I’m not too bothered by her. But I am growing sleepy,” he mentioned slyly, running circles over your hand with his thumb.
Standing up, you pulled Mark to his feet and lead the way down to your bedroom. And before you got too caught up in the desire building between you both, you stopped at the door, turning to Luna.
“Stay here,” you told her, shutting the door so her jealousy couldn’t interrupt the passion that was about to flow between you both.
It wasn’t that easy, though.
She wailed at the door the entire time, scratching it in desperation to get into you.
Breathing heavily after climaxing together, Mark shook his head. “She’s too upset. We should let her in.”
“You’re right. Before the wails turn to barking and she wakes up the neighbours,” you agreed, slipping out from under the blankets and moving over to the door. Luna came bounding inside the room, leaping up onto the bed and examined the situation.
Slipping back under the covers, you moved instinctively towards Mark. “She always sleeps at the end of the bed so we should-”
Luna crawled up between you then, and being as large as she was, she pushed you both apart. Shooting Mark an apologetic expression, you then pointed to the end of the bed. “Luna, move!”
Luna didn’t budge.

Matched
Pairing: Kim Mingyu x female reader
Genre: match-maker au / fluff / university au
Warnings: none
Prompt: “Are you lost?” - #1 of Idea Starters
Word count: 1545
You were stunned when Mingyu walked through the door. Not because of the obvious, however.
You weren’t like the rest of the population who thought of the tall man as incredibly handsome and fawned at his feet. Sure, you could acknowledge that when he was created, his maker dumped him in the physical appearance container one too many times. You just weren’t someone who went ga-ga over attractive guys.
No, you were stunned because Mingyu had no perceived reason to come into your department at all at this point in the day. You serviced many people on the university campus every Friday. Those who came into your little office in the Clubs department were of a certain type.
Those who found dating hard.
You simply couldn’t imagine Kim Mingyu having troubles with dating at all.
“Are you lost?” you couldn’t help but ask in a detached voice, clearing your throat immediately and chuckling. “Sorry, I just can’t imagine you need my services. Are you looking for the tennis club that used to occupy this room? They’ve moved into the bigger room-”
Smiling softly, Mingyu shook his head and interjected. “No, I meant to come here, Y/N.”
“Oh wow. You know my name.”
“Should I not? We’ve shared the same classes in high school before coming to the same university.”
“Huh,” you simply said, staring at the tall man for half a minute before recomposing yourself. “Well, what brings you to Matched, Mingyu?”
“What brings other people?” he enquired, and your eyebrow rose in confusion.
Your match-making skills were second to none, and you had built up quite the reputation in creating some of the hottest campus couples. Surely, your services were widely known.
Again, you gave him a reprieve, still convinced he didn’t need to come to you for anything.
“Most people enter my office looking for a way to make their crush see them in a romantic light. It doesn’t always work out, and I’m straight forward with pointing this out so people can move on instead of pining over the impossible. I also help with dating advice to build confidence in general.”
Nodding, Mingyu smiled weakly. “I’ve heard good things.”
“I appreciate that.”
Silence prevailed your statement, and so you smiled politely before reaching for your water bottle, pulling your straw between your lips.
“Can you help me?”
It was unexpected, much as it was to him that you would splutter your mouthful of water over the desk towards him. For a second, both of you stared at one another, aghast, before you launched into using some tissues to mop up your mess.
“I’m sorry, what did you just say?” you requested, darting your focus between the mess and the man before you.
Mingyu rubbed his neck awkwardly. “I need help.”
“With what exactly?”
“Dating. Finding the confidence to ask someone out,” he offered shyly, and you stifled a snort.
You could count on both hands how many close friends you possessed who would sell their souls to date Mingyu. You had witnessed countless girls throw themselves at the man and assumed he had his weekends full because of it.

Underestimated [M]
Pairing: Park Jinyoung x female reader
Genre: smut / established relationship au
Warnings: light cursing, lingerie, heavily suggestive, smut - I didn’t write the full sex scene but it’s descriptive enough. Also Y/N is on the curvier side. I try not to give too many physical details to her, but yeah, she’s a curvy lady.
Word count: 3504
It was another night just before bed, and you were doing the same as usual. Lazily sprawled out on the bed next to Jinyoung, you scrolled through the last of your social media accounts before clicking into your personal email account, clearing out emails from the various brands and stores that you shopped at notifying you of their new promotions.
You checked through each one, deciding nothing of worth came from them before deleting them. Opening the next, which was one of your favourite clothing stores to shop at since they carried true sizes for all types of curves, you scrunched your face up at it only being a lingerie sale, quickly scanning the lace and satin and scrolling up to hit the trash can.
When Jinyoung had gotten close enough to see the screen of your phone, well, you weren’t aware. You each had a habit of looking over at what the other was doing on their phone when laying in bed like this, but it still startled you when his hand shot out of nowhere, causing you to just about drop the device on your face.
“Jinyoung!”
“Stop there,” he instructed, his thumb scrolling back up the screen and using his index finger to zoom in on the far-right picture.
You peered over his fingers at the selected bodysuit and snorted. “Good grief.”
“What?” he mentioned, his tone suspiciously husky. Tapping on the screen, it loaded into the webpage for the item that had caught his attention.
You had to admit, the black satin and mesh number was classier than half the lingerie this brand offered. Still, you weren’t one to get flashy in this department, going for comfort over anything else when it came to your underwear collection. Jinyoung had never made a fuss over it before, and you were a firm believer that it all came off one way or another when he wanted access to your body.
It also was down to the fact that you never assumed yourself to be sexy or flaunted your body in a way to convince yourself that a little bit of seduction in the form of a strappy balconette type bodysuit could do wonders for you in the sex department to begin with.
However, as you glanced over at Jinyoung’s expression, you were surprised to see how avidly he took it in. What he was imagining behind the heated look within his eyes intrigued you so much that it almost made you gasp when he looked at you.
Clearing your throat noisily to dislodge the flames building in your stomach, you took control over your phone again, waggling it at his intense stare. “Is she doing something for you in that little number, huh?”
“I’d be dead if you wore that,” he breathed out shakily, his dark eyes turning to you, raking you in.
There was nothing remotely desirable about your comfortable hot pink pyjamas with black unicorns all over them, and yet he was basically undressing you, still captivated by whatever that bodysuit had done to his carnal urges.
“Yeah,” you replied with a smile, nudging him playfully so he would finally break out of his stupor. You smirked. “Because for me to put that on, it means you’ve actually transcended to the Afterlife.”
“Such a smart-ass,” he muttered, still lingering his attention to your phone’s screen. He reached out and scrolled down to the back view of the bodysuit, his lips curling up again. “Your ass would be—”
“It’s time for bed, don’t you think?!” you suggested quickly, darting your eyes away from the cheeky cut of the undergarment.
Clicking back, you hoped to be faster than Jinyoung, but his speedy little eyes spied another one, opening it before you could close out and delete the email forever. He played around with the two colour choices this bodysuit held, looking at you and then the phone.
His smug smile said it all. “This one is great too. Especially in the green.”
“Wow,” you breathed out, trying to control the fact that your stomach had dipped with that smile and that this one had a decent coverage over the butt that you could potentially get behind.
In a world where you were totally capable of getting the concept of sexy lingerie, of course.
Shaking the thought away, you deleted the email, closed out of the apps and all but threw your phone down on the nightstand. Jinyoung chuckled as he got up to turn off the lights before slipping back into the bed beside you.
His hand didn’t take long to slip over and rest over your lower torso, pressing heat into you that you really didn’t want to think about right now.
Especially since your pyjamas were the least bit appealing.
As if he read your mind, Jinyoung pressed a kiss into the side of your neck, lingering there. “I can take them off, and then you won’t need to worry about whether they turn me on or not.”
“I swear, you’re easily aroused.”

Requests Schedule & Fiction Info:
This week we see the return of Through His Eyes (thank god, right?!) and the final piece in the Shownu series, Could You Marry Me? I’ve really enjoyed sharing a story each day with you all, and I will definitely be sharing some future series like this if they aren’t going to exceed 7-8 parts.
I hope to write two stories starring Youngmin (AB6IX) in one and Minhyuk (CNBLUE) in the other this week as well, but I’m just not sure when and where I’ll post them so I didn’t want to commit to them and then not have them show up in case I’ve run out of time.
Regarding "PWYL’s Choose What I Write anniversary poll:
I have concluded all the results and I’m looking forward to sharing the two stories on the 2nd July! I realise that is a Tuesday and Through His Eyes will still be running then, so I will either share T.H.E on the Monday or Wednesday so you don’t miss out on another part!

OKAY!
Read this! You have all elements that you need to fall in love with Shownu haha
Also that is: a successful woman, who is a CEO and a efficient assistant who is the guy. CHELLE KNOWS HOW TO BREAK ALL THOSE GENDERS PARTTEN (I don't know if it's the right word, because yeah, my English sucks) .
Be prepared for the plot twist tho. 100/10
Could You Marry Me? - Part 1
Summary: Marriage was something you dreamed of reaching after falling in love with the man of your dreams. Yet the romantic in you is thrown out the window when you end up having to fake your engagement with your personal assistant.
Genre: office au / ceo x personal assistant / co-workers to lovers au / romance / fluff / fake dating
Characters: Son Hyunwoo x reader
Could You Marry Me will be posted every day until completed at 10am NZST.
Index: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7
