So, college is going great so far :3 I doodled Coney checking up on me (Zombox) after class because he’s my comfort character. I did these in a tiny notebook I carry around with me the size of my hand! It’s like a super portable sketchbook, other than the fact that I also scrap book a bit by filling it with cool looking junk I find so it’s way too thick to close properly anymore or fit in my pockets haha. Backpacks really do come in handy :)

Plants vs. Zombies Self Insert

In keeping with tradition, I had to choose a spooky-esque property to self-insert myself into, in time for Halloween. I just got back into Plants vs Zombies 2, so thought it a fitting choice. A tough one too, as there's really only one human character to reference. I also based it on the first game's style, which differs slightly from the second as it has more gradient and a little more rendering.

This is because I find it amusing that the Narrator seems to enjoy fax and/or copy machines and I also associate him with feather/quill pens. I know this is very dependent on him and not my self insert but The Narrator is also the main one in control of the game and stuff so I like the idea of him having a more leading role in a relationship. ]

[ Also I know I mentioned I selfship with Toy Bonnie to you so I'll mention that SunsetBunny is mine with him! My self insert is named Dawn, and their colors together kind of make a sunset. For a combo, 🌆🐰🎀 maybe? ]

Why is a plants vs zombies zombie oc trans? Because I said so, that’s why lmao. If a plant can go by they/them, surely a zombie can use pronouns. Idk lol

Anyways here’s the description of both of them-

Alice/August (he/him for both)-

They are my self-insert, with August being an alter-ego/transformed version of Alice (not actually my deadname.) I designed them with a noise/noisette kinda style. August is extroverted and courageous, while Alice is introverted and cowardly. When Alice feels confident and happy enough, they transform/switch into August. People think they are completely different people, but they at least share the same body. They’re kind of a representation of my online and offline self. Alice is usually called a “she”, but he’s a he. He doesn’t tell anyone what he goes by, and avoids the question whenever possible.

Nico (he/him)-

Nico is a zombie that is generally very intelligent compared to the others, but he is much less tough. He has a bit of a “zombie” accent, but tries to get speech therapy to get rid of the voice. He is the son of Dr. Edgar Zomboss, possibly explaining his above-average intelligence; it’s unknown if he has any siblings. Zomboss refuses to call him his son, referring to him as a “she” and by his deadname “Nicole”. Nico does not eat brains, but will occasionally eat pork brains as a sort of treat. He’s on the plants/humans side, and wants to defeat his father. He has an advantage, as he learned a lot about his father before he left his household so he knows a lot of his plans. Plants know not to attack him, as he’s pretty visually distinct.

Originally from what I can at least remember in my younger days of drawing my self insert/sona started with Sonic.

Just on casual wear of t-shirt, shorts, and shoes until Sonic Boom has been released and I love the designs so I changed it to that.

Then there at some point I drew it as a human. I'm still torn between I'm still torn between black hair and brown.

I really like Ghost Pepper from PvZ so I decided to draw my own Ghost Pepper OC until it became my self insert. The next thing I decided to make my own Fakemon of it and with evolutions which leads to that. To a ghost type which I very like and inverted the colors. Which ended up becoming my two OCs

Now on the final and current design. It all started with the New Minecraft Enchantment called Frostwalker.

I love the enchantment so much so I gotta add it. There is also Houseki no kuni inspired design. Originally, gonna have that fancy suit they wear but decided to discard it.

I’m so curious and I hope you don’t mind me asking but what was your first introduction to zombies? I know next to nothing about them bc they used to freak me out and I avoided anything about them, but finding your blog has made me super interested!! To the point where I was going to sign up for a uni course on them but found out the professor for it was quite shit so I didn’t :,) but yeah when did you first see/hear/learn about them? I’m so curious

well when i was young zombies also really frightened me (i still get zombie stress nightmares sometimes) but i've been a horror fan since i was a kid, so that never stopped me from getting really into zombie media anyway. there were several contributing factors i'd say? my first memory of REALLY loving something with zombies in it was with my childhood best friend. she had this really shitty Xbox 360 and we used to play COD zombies together for hours and hours. people always think i'm crazy when i say this (because COD zombies sucks) but it's a huge reason why i started loving zombies

in my formative years a lot of huge zombie centric franchises were at their peak as well (TWD and TLOU especially. and PVZ was HUGE) so i was of course very invested in those franchises growing up, and i had a lot of friends who were super into them too, especially TWD :D one of my best childhood memories is going to a huge TWD convention with my best friend and i got to meet Clementine's voice actor!!!

my mom also really loves zombies, and i don't share a lot of interests with her, but we always loved them together and would watch stuff together. my mom bought me a lot of zombie books to read and always encouraged that interest of mine. especially in middle school i was blowing through books she'd buy me like World War Z (novel, not movie), The Enemy series, In The After, and the TWD novels were just a few that i was consumed by when i read them. and then i started writing my OWN zombie stories in middle school, like self insert stuff with my friends, etc

and when i got older i started watching a lot more zombie movies (before i had been mostly invested in books, games, and shows because i find movies hard to sit through) and zombie movies are fascinating they have so much history!!! there are so many of them to enjoy with so many different takes on the genre!!! zombie centric music is really fun too, that's also something i got into when i was older. i love music about zombies (and horror music in general)

to quit rambling on and to answer your question super directly i think i ended up loving zombies because the people i love do too, albeit not as much as me lol, and the time period i grew up in (after the release of 28 Days Later and the revival of zombies in the early 2000s) was an absolute goldmine for really good zombie content

betty - or by her full name, beatrice, is the child of electric boogaloo and my oc dazzling starr. with a talent for playing the drums and fashion. a total grunge/riot grrrl. bisexual disaster. dating jules. she gets her father's electricity powers and a bit of her mom's music powers. daddy's girl. rlly likes to sew as well!! most of her clothes are DIY she made out of junk or upgraded

paul - betty's twin brother, full name, paul lee. hes very talented in chemistry and biology. he also likes to play acoustic guitar and sometimes even banjo. just like his sister, he rlly likes fashion too and is NOT going to walk in some trash, even if he's a zombie. he's a mama's boy on the other hand and he gets more of dazz' powers.

jules - by her full name, julianne, science girl from the neighborhood with the highest GPA/best grades in the whole school/z academy. a snarky filipino with love for alternative rock. she's the vocalist in betty's band, hex graves. also loves skateboarding a lot, and watching old anime (her fav is sailor moon and revolutionary girl utena) she's also M.D. Livings' niece and he loves her dearly even if he's mf medic tf2 zombified. huge lesbian.

cass - full name, cassandra, chilean jock who loves a good game of sports, but loves filmography way more. she likes to make experimental films by herself with the help of her besties. she also has 2 moms she got adopted by :] she plays the guitar in the band. her music taste is like early 2000s punk rock/pop punk. pansexual and dating graham.

harper - actually named hajnal, as she's part hungarian, but prefers her nickname. the zompire coming from a family of aristocracy but hates it. doesn't like to be put in 16th century dresses and prefers to dress like an emo kid straight from the 2000s; the same for her music taste. my chemical romance is her unlife. she can and WILL fashion police everyone. also a huge fan of sculpting and art (she has mary sue ocs). aroace :] shes also the bassist of the band

graham - a total punkass, but his scary appearance is just a facade; he's a big sweetheart deep down and he has a big love for literature (but he writes self insert fanfics abt historical periods like his most popular 10,000 word trojan war fic). he LOVES punk rock and especially the stuff that goes extremely hard. oh, and daddy and mommy issues. A LOT. anyways he's pan + ace and dating cass.

zach - full name, zacharias, he comes from a big family of pirates. he rlly likes chemistry too but for different reasons; he simply wants to know what to put in bombs. the reason he has 4 arms and glowy eyes is cuz his mom got "cursed" that her next child would look like that, but now he's living his best unlife not caring a bit. he also rlly likes board games and literally you cant beat him in them. he has 5 siblings, roger, nick, taylor and hazel who are older and a younger brother. hes gay and dating paul :]

AYOOO!? THANK YOU!! You're not gonna believe how stupidly easy it is, tho.

All I use is Ibis-Paint (my art program) & Capcut (what I use to make the 🪄M A G I C🪄 happen.)

Basically, I make a bunch of sprites, then I play with them and swap them out with perfect timing.

If you can put the yeen in the spinch, you can CERTAINLY make an animatic similar to mine.
