How to OC post without being an artist (or spending money)!

As much as I yelled about OC-posting, some people said that they struggled to know what exactly they should be posting. Obviously the answer is whatever you feel like but if you’re already aimless, that answer isn’t very helpful. Additionally, not everyone knows how to draw (which I think is an obvious method of OC-posting) so I wanted to give some ideas for what people could post for their OC! This will be split up into different sections.

Creating visual representations of your OC

Disclaimer: I will not suggest nor support the usage of generative AI. OCs are about creating something yourself, not allowing a computer to do it for you.

Outside of commissioning someone else for art, it can be disappointing and frustrating to not have any visual representation for your character. An easy way to get a representation of your character is to use Picrew, Meiker and other similar sites. There’s a large number of art styles, types of fashion, species, that can all be used to make your OC and that amount only grows by the day. Many of these websites can be accessed on PC and mobile and take very little processing power.

However, this can be limiting at times since you might not find exactly what you’re looking for, especially if your OC has a unique combination of features. For something with more customisation, you can use video games with character creation to make a version of your character. I personally would recommend games like The Sims or Skyrim as both have very active modding communities. This way, if a certain type of clothing or facial feature isn’t present in the base game then you can often find someone who has created a mod that adds it in instead. This does require you to have access to a computer that can run not only the game but the mods as well.

Another option would be using a program like Vroid Studio to make your character from a base model. This has both a mobile and PC version, although I will primarily be speaking from a PC perspective. The mobile app, while able to create a character from scratch, is a lot more limited than the PC version. The great thing about Vroid is that there’s a lot of user-made content that you can often get for free through websites like Booth, as well as many tutorials for beginners to follow along with. Again, this requires a computer that is able to run it. I would recommend against using Vroid on a laptop as it will likely be too intensive for it.

My final suggestion for character visuals is to take a character from anime or cartoons and simply edit them. This was actually how I first got into making original characters! You can recolour their hair or outfits with an editing program (with some free examples being FireAlpaca, Krita or GIMP) and even edit different images together to create something more unique. Please only do this with characters from existing media and avoid using fanart for this.

Other OC visuals

Other than just what your OC looks like, there are other ways to visually put together your OC. Moodboards are the most obvious example of this, but you can also edit other things such as putting together outfits for them or finding pictures of items they would keep in their bag.

If you have multiple OCs, you can create fake text conversations between them using a number of websites. These can be as silly or as serious as you like!

Finally, you can always build them a pinterest board. I am a massive pinterest enjoyer and not only can you use pins that others have posted to pinterest, you can add your own from off the site. 

Writing

Beyond writing out your characters’ story, there are numerous other things you can write. Keeping in line with what you’ve already written, you can re-write scenes from alternative perspectives. These can add context to what is seen in the main story, as well as flesh out background or side characters and their relationship to your other OCs.

Another fun thing to write is non-canon scenes. Write a beach episode! Write about a character getting sick and someone else having to take care of them! There are countless ways to draw your OCs interacting with their world or other characters that wouldn’t necessarily ever fit into the “main” story.

Next is genre changes. If you had to categorise the genre of your OCs’ current story, what would it be? Now image what if the genre was something completely different? Romance to mystery… Slice of life to horror… Part of the challenge is figuring out what story beats remain the same and what gets changed, including character dynamics! And of course… Alternate Universes. There are too many types of AUs to list but some of my favourites are superpowers, mafia, zombies, time loops and time-travel-fix-its. These are similar to genre-changes but often include a number of AU specific tropes. If you’re struggling to figure out the staples of a certain AU or what kind of AUs exist, there’s a really good page about alternate universes on Fanlore.org!

Other ideas

These are ideas that didn’t quite fit into the other categories.

First is music playlists! There are two types of these. The first is a playlist of songs that describe a character and their story while the second is a playlist of songs that the character would listen to. Some people like to combine the two as well! There are no rules to this, simply have fun listening to music and picking out songs that remind you of your OCs.

Second is incorrect quotes. I remember these used to be beloved by fandom and now they can be beloved by you and your OCs! The concept of incorrect quotes is that well-known and funny quotes from pop culture (such as memes or movies) get written out and your characters are assigned a line of dialogue. While there’s a website that’ll generate these incorrect quotes for you, I personally find more fun in coming across quotes organically while scrolling social media and realising that they fit my OCs almost perfectly.

Finally, ask games. These typically take the form of lists of questions or prompts with emojis or numbers next to them. People can send in the relevant emoji or number and you then answer the corresponding prompt. There used to be a kind of “ask game etiquette” where if you reblogged an ask game from someone, you sent an ask from the list to them as well. This way, it allows the game to continue circulating and you can spread the joy of OC-posting with others! It can also lead you to making friends within the community.

I like your Viltrumite OC and her dynamic with Conquest. They remind me of that meme where a cute girl ordered a beer and a tough guy ordered a sweet drink but the waiter gets their drinks mixed up so they have to switch them back.

I'm pretty sure you mean Yuki, right? Cuz the only time I've drawn Mercy (my only Viltrumite OC) with Conquest was when they were beating the shit outta each other, lol. I wondered why you assumed Yuki was Viltrumite, until I looked back at that drawing of her with Conquest and realized the overlay I put on top of it made her outfit very grey-and-white. Oops! She's not a Viltrumite! She's human, born and raised on Earth. Yuki is one of those OCs where I put her into every AU and every fandom I can feasibly stick her into, lol, so if you look at my Yuki tag then you'll see a loooot of different variations of her. She's usually a good person in every world bc "sunshine and optimism" is like the core of her character in every fandom, but in Invincible I decided I wanted her to be more neutral/self serving instead (: I've got Mercy to be the good OC who wants to protect people, now Yuki gets to be mischievous and work with the bad guys because they're fun company

She's my OC where I just decided that I can do whatever tf I want, so she's an OP mary sue that wins every fight and everyone fears/respects her and all that. Probably the main reason I don't post about her a lot, I know stuff like that isn't always that well received on tumblr. But I don't care that much, it's my art blog and I get to post my super self indulgent OC doodles if I want to..

Her basic lore in the Invincible-verse is that she's immortal and has been around for a few centuries (I haven't decided exactly how long, just at least 300 years or so). She can't come back from the dead like The Immortal can, she just has a healing factor so strong that it's incredibly difficult to do enough damage to actually kill her before she's already healed from it. She can teleport, and mainly uses her dual swords to fight with. I justify her being OP as hell with the fact that she basically doesn't interact with the main plotline, like, at all. She interacts with the characters, but she doesn't really get herself involved with what's going on in the world. She's just goofin off in the background

She basically just pops up out of nowhere, messes around with people, says some cryptic shit that nobody understands at the time but will look back on later and go "ohhh", and then disappears again. Silly jester of a woman that doesn't want to work for any organization because she has no respect for the law or governments, so she's willing to break the rules to do what she wants to do. Sometimes she works with criminals, sometimes she allies with the GDA, but most of the time she's considered an eccentric but unknowable entity.

I just really like the idea of her scaring the shit out of people by popping up behind them at random. The Guardians tell her to get out of their base in Utah but she's like "wait I want one of those donuts" and they just can't catch her. They stopped trying to kick her out years ago. She's kicking her legs up on Cecil's office desk and he just sucks it up bc he wants her help on a mission or something. Silly things like that (:

I like the idea of her hanging out with Conquest, because they're both very lonely people. Yuki, like Immortal, decided a long time ago to not get too close to other people because they both know they're going to outlive them all. So she has a very friendly and approachable personality, sure, but she keeps an emotional distance from everyone. Kinda pissing people off by always cracking jokes and never being able to have a serious conversation about anything. I think her and Conquest would have met before he came to Earth, idk how, I have yet to decide on that other than the fact that Yuki proooobably has gone to other planets before (somehow). I just want him to show up on Earth in season 3 to do his job and he sees her again and goes "what the hell. how are you here" and shes like "huh? this is my planet? what are you doing here?" spider-man pointing meme style

she's really just a daydream-only OC in her Invincible AU because I don't have any intentions of making set lore for her, I just do whatever is fun in the moment. and right now what's most fun is her pestering Conquest but he thinks it's funny and they both get some companionship for a little while

he's fucking pretty

look at him. he's beautiful. pretty long hair, first and foremost. I love a man with pretty long hair. he has pretty yellow eyes and also look at his (what I assume to be) eyeliner. this man is beautiful. don't even get me started when he takes his mask off. sheesh. someone get me a fan! maybe I'm just weird but I love a man who's feminine but also masculine at the same time. not androgynous but a secret other thing. I think he fits into that category.

he's also very tall (6'2") and I am short (5'6") so we have a nice height difference. also something about a man who's built like a stake olive garden bread stick I love. I could snap him in half. I won't get graphic here but he's gorgeous and that's obviously reason number one.

another thing too is I really love his design. military inspired clothing is very cunty (iirc I think his outfit was inspired by a music video? I dunno how true this is) but either way it just suits him very well. gives off this mysterious aura which fits his character. also he wears these bandages on his hands and you wonder why, because as you can see in his pregame sprite he doesn't have any scarring or anything. my personal headcanon is that he wears them to keep artifacts he handles from getting scuffed up.

I also just think that knee-high boots fuck hard. nothing to add to that. they fuck.

he has a brain

he's smart guys. why wouldn't I love a man in academia? anthropology is very interesting. he's a yapper, talks all the time about his interests, which he's very well versed in. I want a man who I can have intelligent conversations with !!!! he fits that perfectly cmon

he's relatable

"Lachlan no the fuck he isn't" HE ISSS this is the line my username is based off of. it's stuck with me for like 5 years since I read it.

he's such an interesting character when it comes to the concepts of grief and loss and how one copes with the passing of someone close to you, especially when that someone hurt you. I could probably talk for hours about how he's such an interesting case study on how grief can effect ones healing from trauma, or how grief itself is a cycle that he's destined to repeat (killing over and over again to sate the desires of the dead), or how everything about his character relates to death, just generally. his favorite story in canon is Medusa, his dislikes air conditioners because they repel spirits, he's, you know, a serial killer, and so much more. I could write an essay on him.

all in all though I don't think I picked him I think he just came to me at the right time. and for the last light five years I've been obsessed and he's all I think about every day and night. that's my husband!!! I love him. not much else to add there. no other fictional character I think ever at all in any way has ever been appealing to me in the way that he is. I can't explain it that well, he's just something special.

Hi. Question, what is Gabriel's fashion style? In the show he's apparently the king of fashion but some of his designs suck tbh...

I'm not going to pretend that I understand high fashion enough to label Gabriel's style. I'm also not sure if the animators understand high fashion enough to label his style. Nothing about the show actually screams "fashion" to the point where I can't tell if the akumas are bad on purpose or not.

While you can connect certain akumas to specific high fashion looks such as loosely linking The Bubbler to Vivian Westwood's 1989 Harlequin suit (see below images), I don't think that's what the animators were actually doing. Any high-fashion similarities are probably an accident, especially since the word of god is that akumas choose their own appearances. Gabriel officially had nothing to do with the designs. Given all of that, it's far more likely that the various designs come from the animators trying to keep things interesting while working within the confines of animation.

3D animation greatly limits what looks you can do. It's incredibly costly to animate a new character or even just a new outfit. That's why the characters generally only have one look and why most of Marinette's designs are things like accessories and posters. Those are way easier to animate!

Outfits and character designs also have to greatly limit their moving parts as each uniquely moving element vastly increases the cost. It's why all of the characters with long hair transform into heroes with pigtails or pony tales. Animating those is way easier than free flowing hair because you can treat those as one unit without it looking too bad, but free-flowing hair just looks silly as you can see when Marinette is riding her scooter:

I don't think any of this excuses the show's bad fashion sense, though. They chose to make the lead and the villain fashion designers. That's a choice with obvious repercussions for the way people will view the show and yet the show's fashion elements feel as slapdash as the Chinese elements, showing a clear lack of care for the world they're trying to create. It feels like fashion was only included because girls like fashion and not a choice made because the show wanted to root itself in the setting (Paris is the fashion capital of the world). While it's fun to joke about how terrible Gabriel and others look, when I get serious, I'm way more judgmental of the creators than the characters.

Knowing how to design a character isn't the same as understanding fashion. It is a specialty unto itself. A true field of expertise that people spend their lives learning. It's also a field that gets a lot of flack for being "girly" with women often being judged for caring too much about fashion. Those are two things you need to keep in mind if you're going to make fashion a big focus of your show for girls. And if you're going to have episodes focused on environmentalism? Maybe talk about fast fashion and not non-issues like trash being blasted into space?

What I'm saying is that, if you want to have a show or story focus on the fashion industry, then you do need to do some actual research and, ideally, hire someone to help guide those elements. A thing the writers absolutely could have done since they have the money for that! I don't think that's the route they took, though. I've never heard anyone mention it. Fashion doesn't even feel like a major part of Marinette's character! She rarely talks about it.

All of which is a very long winded way to say that I fully agree that a lot of the show's designs suck, but I think that fact is just one of the many little ways you can see how little care was put into the baseline world building. If Gabriel was a movie director instead and Marinette wanted to be a director too, then the bad fashion would still be commented on, but it wouldn't feel like a mark against the characters. Alternatively, the show could have used the bad fashion as a running gag in the show about Gabriel being bad at his job. Instead, we get people claiming that Gabriel is a great designer and I'm just sitting here going, "you couldn't even get this minor element right? Really?"

I know I just made a serious post and I'm about to post something silly but stay with me here. I've had an experience that was deeply unsettling and horrifying to me and my mental health, and now you have to hear about it.

So I was reading fanfiction, and you can judge me, it's fine, I don't feel guilty for my little thought crimes, but it was a m/m fanfiction of two fictional blorbos I will not name in this instance. And this fanfiction was absolutely beautifully written, the prose had me in the first sentence; it was sophisticated, detailed, words so unusual and interesting I had to consult a dictionary. It started off wonderfully too, my characters were bantering, they were having issues, then had to work together and be civil to each other, it's what puts a smile on my face.

However, one of these characters had been changed in the fanfiction, in a way that felt unsettling to me. First the author changed his hair to long – and it happens sometimes, I'm okay with it, why not, make him look like an elf. Then his outfits were color-coordinated, and described in detail (it was like reading my immortal). Then he started wearing his hair in a long braid, which is normal, but, then he changed it to two braids, which I felt, was taking it too far, like this would happen only if he lost a bet and was being made fun of. Then he lost all of his desire for banter and started acting very dainty and vulnerable. I was having a bad feeling about it, but I still hoped it would get better. Maybe they would still fight.

The fanfiction had some very detailed and unusual descriptions of food, and it was food I've never heard about, red onion marmelade? I had to stop reading to consider if that was real. The food was a big issue and every meal had several courses and multiple fancy deserts and we were getting information about ingredients and freshness level. Then the characters started a discussion about the food, and the character I'm describing understood in detail how food is made, from what ingredients, in what manner, and I've felt suspicious about that, how would he know about cooking. Unreasonable.

I've still been hanging onto hope until finally, I got to the part where this character was in the hospital, and here I found out that the author erased all of the scars on his body. Not only that, but the character was obsessed with having skin free of blemishes and flaws and from what I was seeing, probably had a skin care routine. This was deeply unsettling because the scars have been vital to the plot, a proof of what had happened to him, and to just erase all this to make him blemish free? There was no hope. I knew it then for sure. I understood what was happening. They had turned him into a tradwife.

The outfits, the braids, the blemish-free skin, the extensive cooking knowledge, the lack of banter, the dainty behaviour... they did that to a fanfiction character. A male character. Nobody is freaking safe. The trend is so strong it bled into my emotional-support fanfiction. I am stripped of one thing that usually comforts me, two fictional males having a female-written relationship.

And the other character, who was supposed to be pursuing him, was written like a sexual predator. Consistently turned on by all of the tradwife elements and pretty much only by that. I generally love this character but in this fanfic I hoped someone would kill him. It was disgusting and disturbing. By the time the characters got to intimacy I was grossed out and skipped it entirely because I was about to throw up.

This is a common issue for me, a big bulk of fanfiction has already been ruined by rape fantasies, by bdsm, ddlg, fetishes, pedophilia, power imbalances, and all other influences of patriarchal society but I can usually FILTER THOSE OUT. Nobody will tag a fic 'tradwife' after they do this to a character. I've never seen a fic ruined in this particular way before.

This is mormon church's fault. They did this to me. They need to be taken down for this bs. This is taking it too far. Give me my adorable fanfictions back.

I like Wesker a bunch. He is a really cool villain figure to me. He starts of as an allie. He is your captain after all ! But then he betrays you and wants you to die. Well it didn't go to his plan and we see him later again as some sort of super human. So we have beef with that guy for years. He is always around in the shadows doing something shady. It's interessanting following up on what he does. Cause you are curious with all that prep time he had what he now had in store. And beating him in the end felt good. His fights were a lot of fun in re5!

Okay so what I don't like regarding Wesker is when people only like a few versions of him and disregard others. What I mean by that is that some people dislike it when Wesker is more silly. Look at Og Re1. The dub for the game so bad that it was good.

Making that Wesker appear really silly and funny compared to his Re1 Remake Self that is really serious and off putting. The voice acting got way better. And Wesker sounds great. You know something is off about him.

The Code Veronica Wesker is overly dramatic, his movements and his lines are so too. The way he talked to Claire and Chris comes to mind. Sounds like he is high of his new powers and plays with them like a cat does a mouse.

I like all versions of him. The ones where he is silly, a serious and creppy character, a more dramatic and funny one and well a unhinged one too. I like him in all games ! I wish people wouldn't be so harsh on his earlier appearances!

We can all agree that Wesker in Re5 was going insane. Quick to anger and happy to show off his strength. Very cocky during the game. He really thought he was way better than Chris and Sheva. And in the end became a monster that was beaten just like the tyrant in re1.

I remember when a bunch of people found Re4 Remake Wesker to look ugly ^^; A bit harsh on the poor guys new face model. (Surprised that he wears this outfit though, I am more used to him wearing a bunch of dark clothes. And mostly stuff that covers him more. Many layers and all)

So yeah in short: Wesker is great to me in all shapes he appears in the games. And that earlier or sillier versions of him aren't bad! Just different!

I already talked about, like, the Obvious Symbolism of Simon reaching his lowest point literally dressed like the Ice King and then gradually gets back to his old outfit as he starts climbing out of his depressive spiral, at least somewhat.

But it’s also really interesting, maybe even more interesting, how Fionna’s outfit has been gradually shifting and changing with basically every adventure.

My first thought was that it really shows Fionna coming into her own as a character. The more she grows and also the more character development she gets - the more the audience learns to see her as more than just Girl Finn - the more her outfit moves away from just being a slightly girlier version of Finn’s classic look and into being its own thing. 

Because Fionna is her own character. 

But my second thought was more about the first time Fionna’s classic outfit got an update in this series.

This wouldn’t really relate to my first reading, since it just kinda makes her outfit closer to Finn. But it does relate to the most important Theme that her character arc revolves around - Fantasy versus Reality.

Fionna starts out the story interacting with the idea of magical adventure and heroism via the lens of fantasy. She compares everything to video games and just thinks about everything in terms of it being cool and fun and she literally tries to chase down a person from her dreams.

And her mindset was probably only reinforced by discovering she was literally created to be the Main Character in God’s little fantasy universe literally created out of self-indulgence for his silly little stories.

And because of that, she starts out the story with a huge Protagonist-Centered-Morality blind spot where she can’t recognize when she and Cake are in the wrong

And she rushes into action and violence just thinking it’s ‘cool’

And, like, in general acting without thinking of the consequences.

And at basically every step of this adventure, these kinda actions clashed against the reality of her situation. And it all started when she pointed out to her own creator that the outfit he designed for her is cute - but extremely unrealistic for an adventurer like herself

And from there we move to Fionna experiencing more and more of the harsh consequences of assuming everything should fit into her fantasies of heroes and villains 

And that she should punch first and ask questions later 

And in general that it’s always better to trust her guts over her head. 

And with every one of her experiences, the bright and adorable outfit that is a reminder of her origin as God’s Most Self-Indulgent OC gets tweaked in more way - turning it into something that looks a lot more, for the lack of a better word, gritty. And also turning it further and further away from the outfit of her own literal fantasies.

And all of these horrible traumatic experiences and the general dangers of the magical and very different world she’s in have all weathered down Fionna’s original optimism and eagerness and brashness that originally defined her and turned her terribly overprotective and scared instead. And it really reminds of how Simon’s own trauma weathered him down. 

Turning him from a kind man with a passion for adventure and the fantastical and a powerful parental instinct to a miserable jerk who aches for mundanity and made a little girl cry

Until he got to his very lowest point.

So I’m guessing next up for Fionna is getting to see her regain some of her old identity that the Trauma has been tearing away at - getting back some of that cheerfulness and brash attitude and adventurous spirit. Because while it has put herself and her teammates and others in serious troubles - it’s also been a huge help at other times (especially as she's a good counterbalance to Simon ‘slow but dependable’ Petrikov)

She needs to find the balance, learning the lessons from her multiverse adventure without losing all the things that made her Fionna Campbell in the first place.

And I wonder if this development is gonna be paralleled with a return of some of the more ‘classic’ elements of her look - or if her outfit is instead going to diverge farther?

Oh man… I just read Deadpool (2024) #6 and I GOT MUCH TO SAY. But I’m gonna keep this Taskpool centric, I might do an overall review on the full series later but there’s a few talking points specifically about Taskpool I’ve gotta say before I forget ‘em.

At least I hope this works. It’s been a while since I’ve done this, I don’t usually even do review type thingys but I’m really hyped ^^

Let’s begin….

Really loved the way Tasky looked here. But also find this pretty funny considering back in Despicable Deadpool he threw a guy/his wheelchair at Taskmaster.

Interestingly enough, Wade called him Taskmaster more times in this comic than the previous ones. But he’s on business mode rn so he’s definitely keeping it professional!

Because not too much later he then calls him Task-Daddy— WHY DID HE DO THAT???? Tasky, you aren’t getting out of this anymore, I’m sorry… I had to full stop and process this. We kept making jokes… we did it for months now and Wade finally said what we all been saying 😭💀

This just interested me a lot. Both of them are talking about new territory, but it’s not the same kind. I think it’s really important for Tasky because he’s never actually been a father-like figure to anyone (not even his own daughter…) but maybe I was reading too much into this—

I know this is very much in character for Tony to wanna brand more since he’s broke, likes good business, etc, but I can’t help but feel like this equals him being a dad to Ellie, why? he’s never had to brand anybody before, but he obviously saw promise in her and even if Wade may have thrusted this mentorship onto them both, he didn’t HAVE to do it like this, that he is explaining the reasoning just felt like an excuse/deflection, it was like he WANTED to have a piece of himself in her outfit but he’s just gotta act cool about it.

I won’t lie when I say this “No Killing Rule” has piqued my interest the most, because to me, rules are made to be broken. And I am intrigued to see where this leads in the future and what will unfold. It is sort of a big deal for Wade to put onto Taskmaster, and I can think about how he may react if Ellie crosses that line— I mean it is his responsibility… I’m wondering if I’m thinking too much on this!

At first I just wanted to add this in and say isn’t he just gorgeous here? But then I realized the dialogue is something to poke at. He’s somewhat pulling her leg here, but I also think it could be interpreted in a few different ways; he’s never gonna admit that he’s protective of her, but he is. It’s not just hit reputation that he’s concerned about okay?

I also think it may be how he’s worked with Wade for a very long time, but with her, it’s a whole new world. It could go a lot of ways, but I’d like to think there’s a part of Taskmaster that is going to miss working alongside Wade and he doesn’t wanna confess. But being around Ellie is just gonna be a reminder.

Being around Ellie might remind him of his own daughter that he knows nothing about. And maybe he feels regretful about this. Idk maybe he doesn’t even remember her at all… depends on the writer.

Loving the dynamic he’s got with her so far. They’re goofy and silly and I love to see him being the funny guy in the situation while Ellie is more serious. Nice change from Wade & Tasky. Really appreciate Ellie is her own person and not just a Deadpool 2.0, I think Tony likes that about her too.

Finally. Love seeing these two interact. A lot. This is something I will REALLY miss now that… well you know… now that stuff happened…. And at this very moment NEITHER TASKY OR ELLIE KNOW THAT WADE IS DEAD OH I AM SICK!!! (Also why did Wade look extra cute here… there was zero reason for it. Thank you Artist!!!)

Uh yeah and these were my little thoughts and such. I might of jumped over things and I’ve never really done posts like these. But this issue really itched my brain and so I wanted to discuss stuff a little haha. Hope y’all enjoy and ofc enjoyed the new issue!!!

Here's my review of the ANN Ryoko Kui interview

No one asked but the visceral reaction people had was just so funny I'd like to have some clarity in how I view it from my personal perspective

-An opener to get to know Ryoko Kui personally that whiffed hard because the manga did not come from the mind of someone who likes to cook and experiment with food

-A question about Ryoko Kui's favourite dish. As she had such an empty answer for the previous question and many had heard of Ryoko Kui's picky eating this question is like a slow motion train wreck. It was popular to talk about but most people still wouldn't have heard about the picky eating thing so this is a good thing to have in an article

-The only truly, intrinsically unforgivable question: "OBVIOUSLY you like TTRPGs". Ryoko Kui will not stop fucking talking about CRPGs. The main party was conceived of as a Wizardry OC party. She constantly absolutely nonstop makes references to Wizardry. I'm going to get a headache that there was a possibility of asking her if she has ever played Fallout 1 and the interview is just so uneducated on her creative influences that this opportunity slipped through their fingers. This question makes me want to microwave my own eyeballs so I don't have to watch someone whiff this bad

-Baldur's Gate 3 isn't going to save that. I can't believe the followup question wasn't about CRPGs. Does the interviewer know what a CRPG is? I genuinely have to ask

-Pretty good softball question about worldbuilding.

-Tapping into the most interesting aspect of the main character by asking about personal influences in crafting such a person

-The follow-up about the idea of a 'perfect monster' really feeds into her "I made it up" perspective of her worldbuilding and more of her personal influences. It paints a picture of her process that I find really similar to my own and that's neat :)

-This is like, the most artisanal fucking question about disability and identification you could POSSIBLY do and I'm not kidding. Lead with the scene that caused the most discussion. Refer to the readers who relate to this deeply autistic experience in their fight. Ask if this resonance was on purpose. Circle back to the Laois-Toshiro conflict, the real root of the interaction. I think it's like...the west, specifically the US, has this really bizarre individuality and fascination with tidy little boxes to fit into, so it's incredibly disarming for a lot of people that she like...answered the main question. Laios is written as a relatable, accessible character. Those autistic experiences you mentioned hindered his ability to interact with Shuro, but Shuro was hindered from engaging with Laios by his own burdens. She talks about this inability to weigh each other's circumstances causing strife. Which is pretty straightforward! But people wanted the validation of the little box. Doomed question but not a whiff

-The Laios question was so well-crafted and meticulously designed to communicate to Kui why the question about the fight left such an impact, but the Senshi one is like the TTRPG one; just assuming shit of her that is obviously not the case. If I wrote this I would comment on the dichotomy between Senshi's very obviously silly and non-erotic panty shots and the incredible care she puts into illustrating him as handsome and cool (i.e. that chapter cover) in serious moments. It is a miracle of fucking god this whiff ended with us obtaining such a funny and direct answer and Kui found the influence interesting to bring it into the interview but it's still awful form to ask this

-WHY WOULD YOU FOLLOW UP ON THAT. LET IT GO

-The question about Marcille's outfit is really neat! I think it's cool to get confirmation on its roots, and the mother/baby influences really make you think

-Mediocre question about farcille. Again, there wasn't a lot of care put into this and the shipping seems more important than curiosity about how she views the intensity of her own writing. This question did not whiff & gave us something interesting but you really can't help but be annoyed when you're more interested in why she wrote them that way and not if Kui blesses your OTP

-Ending it on the Izutsumi question ties into the interview also ending I like the pacing of it and leaves me thoughtful and reminiscing on the series. Good one

Very grateful I’m able to take part in the @tmntaucompetition and I have the honor to be matched up with @gemini-forest, whose art style and characters I adore <3 While my writing is normally grim and takes a serious note, I wanted to write a more silly setting where all characters have fun (in their own way) ((plus I was researching what other writers have done for crossovers and all of them fall on the silly side and I agree silly is def the best route to take for this))

Now, the theme is any time period before 1920s, and I couldn’t help but think what could be more sillier than them facing off in the colosseum GLADIATOR STYLE:

Screams for a fight, blood, a win, and a loss closed in around Donatello, his hands hovered to his headphones, eye twitching. “If I was real I would blow Poet up with uranium for this.”

Mikey jumped up and down over the ledge, looking over the colosseum with a giddiness only the youngest sibling could hold. “I’m not worried about it. It’s a break from the storyline, right? Maybe Leo will have fun too.”

“By fighting in the colosseum?” Raph said. “Yeah. As if he can’t get enough of fighting. Thanks a lot POET!”

*The author ignores Raphael’s comment and urges Michelangelo to speak*

“Oh!” Mikey said. “Do we know who he’s going against?”

Donnie lowered his goggles and zoomed in at the group directly on the opposite end, waving flags and cheering. Their version of Splinter and Casey Jr and April and an older Mikey and Raph and Donnie was there, and… “I don’t recognize some of those—”

“Yoink!” Mikey snapped off his goggles and put them on. “Oh, I spoke with them earlier! That’s Francis, Raph’s partner. And that’s Aiden, Michelangelo’s husband.”

Raph whirled Mikey around simultaneously as Donnie snatched his goggles back. “You’re gay?”

Mikey raised his hands in surrender. “This is the first I’ve heard of it!” He hesitated, then tapped his chin. “Maybe?”

“Maybe?” Raph howled.

Mikey shrugged. “I don’t know! I’ve been busy!”

“They’re holding signs up for Leo,” Donnie said. “I don’t think they’re cheering for ours, though.”

Mikey melted in his seat. “Awww. Wish we made signs. I think that would’ve cheered Leo up a little.” 

The roars of the crowds filled the silence between them, Donnie winced. “This crowd definitely won’t be overstimulating and overwhelming for Leo to the point where he’ll go on a killing rampage, right?”

Sweat ran down all of their necks as the announcer called for everyone’s attention. Screaming louder than before made even Raph flinch. “First into the ring, all the way from Stockholm, Spain is Leonardo!”

Donnie gritted his teeth. “One, Stockholm is in Sweden, not Spain. How do you mix that up? And second, he isn’t from Stockholm he has Stockholm Syndrome does this announcer even—”

Raph pulled him back down to his seat—he didn’t realize he stood up. “Donnie! Calm down, everyone will probably forget about this in a couple minutes anyways. It looks like the crowd is too drunk to even hear the announcer.”

Nearby, a rabbit yokai Donnie recognized as Yuichi from another alternate universe toppled face first, still pulling out a thumbs up. 

As the gate lifted, metal rattling and clanging against metal, Leo crawled out on all fours, whining and shaking his head at the sounds. He frothed at the mouth, looked around either for something familiar, or a fight to pick.

Jayden tightened the last leather strap and smirked at their handy work. “There,” they said. “You look good.”

Leo stood in full gladiator armor, complete with a helmet that had a red tail swinging from it. It looked good with his red markings. He swished the tail from the helmet back. “I still like my cowboy outfit better.” Smirking, he pulled Jayden in for a kiss. They leaned into it, sighing against him. They rubbed their belly in thought, and Leo leaned down. “You’re not worried for me?”

Jayden smiled back. “Well—”

The gate across from them opened, and out came a creature—no—it was a younger version of Leo. He walked on all fours and behaved like a…like a feral animal. It was hard to watch. He was thin and covered in scars—he looked frail and in need of help. He shouldn’t be fighting. Jayden turned to Leo, who watched with wide eyes. “That…that’s not what I was expecting…”

Jayden looked back at the young, tormented Leo. This wasn’t right.

Determination filled them, body and soul, and they faced their Blueberry with an open palm. “Give me your helmet.”

Leo stepped back. “Jayd, don’t think you’re going out there. You’re pregnant.”

Jayden slammed their foot down. “You’re not fighting yourself, now give me your helmet!” Then they smiled. The smile that Leo fell for, the smile he always longed to see. “I have a plan, Blueberry.”

He looked doubtful, looking back to the snarling version of himself, then sighed, handing the helmet over. “I don’t know what your plan is, but…I trust you.” 

They took the heavy helmet with a grateful grin. Leo leaned down for one last kiss as their own metal gate pulled up. The announcer’s booming voice said, “Coming from Sorry I’m Late is Leo—”

Jayden stepped out, pregnant belly on full display, but they were proud in their helmet. They stepped into the sunlight and placed their hands on their hips, ever confident and sure of themselves.

“—nardo—what’s this? It’s Leo’s partner, Jayden!”

“Whoo!” 

Jayden looked behind and waved to the family, Casey Jr clapped and yelled, “Go, Bapa!”

The signs they held up for Leo flipped around and said Jayden’s name, as though they foresaw this happening. The young Leo, apparently from Stockholm (he didn’t look Swedish?) saw them and flinched, pupils thinning. He hissed, sharp teeth flashing, and Jayden raised their hands. “You don’t know me,” they murmured. Leo circled them, claws digging into the dirt. When they took a step forward, they snarled, clicking in distress. Jayden smiled. “But I… kind of know you.” Jayden bent down on their knees, arms wide. “And… I know you don’t want this.”

He looked surprised, hesitant, and sniffed the air. He crept towards them, flinching at the slightest twitch of their fingers and hissing, but then came creeping back. His skittish behavior went on for minutes, but they were patient. He made it all the way to the tip of their fingers. He sniffed them, he looked at their eyes. His pupils were so thin, the scarring around his eyes were so wrong, and they recognized markings around his limbs were remnants of krang tentacles. Shivering, Jayden dared to brush their fingers against his cheek. Leo flinched, a warning growl in his throat. “It’s okay,” they murmured. They let him come on his own time, and when sniffing and stepping forward again, he brushed his face against their hand. They rested both hands against his cheeks. Laughing, they opened their arms to see if Leo wanted a hug. “See? Not so bad, huh?”

Leo suddenly flopped down onto their legs and sprawled, churring and nestling his head against their stomach, feeling the small kick of little Annie inside. The announcer suddenly said, “And the winner is Jayden!”

Jayden’s ear twitched. “Huh? But I didn’t…” They looked back at their own Leo, their beloved Blueberry, who stood behind the gate with crossed arms, but smiling. He had tears in his eyes. Smiling back, Jayden looked back down at the small and fragile Leo, just a teenager, and rested their hand on his head. “Ah…it’s fine.”

As of now Rex will have 2 kids (I might make it more idk still on the fence, ik Rex likes the idea of a big family tho): Ruby (she/her, orc) and Firven (he/him, half orc half elf) also I'm writing about them as if they're close in age, but I have been considering giving Ruby and Firven a 14 year age gap or something

Eli and Kieran have one changeling child, still unnamed, goes by they/them.

Ripley has one daughter in the au, she's named River, she's a witch but not a vampire. I also imagine she calls Ripley and Gabe some variation of 'mom' while Cas is just Cas.

1. Who do the kids enjoy playing with the most?

Rex x Tyril x Imtura:

I think Rex usually, because she's just more playful than Tyril. But whenever she's staying over, the kids gravitate most towards Imtura bc I think she'd just allow a lot more than Rex and Tyril and in general is more like the fun cool aunt than their mom u know? And they only see her every few months so I think that just makes her more interesting to them lol. I think she'd be a bit rowdy for Firven sometimes though lol. Rex too tho tbh, tho Rex immediately starts fussing over him when she's been a bit rough with him and he starts crying. While I think Imtura just kinda laughs it off like 'Come on, you're fine.' (He is fine)

Eli x Kieran:

A part of me is like omg am I mischaracterizing her, but I just like the idea of otherwise more put together and serious characters that are way different and more silly and playful with their kids, so I'm gonna say Kieran!! I also think Eli just tires out more easily because when they have their kid he's in his late 40s/early 50s, like he loves playing with them but he definitely doesn't have the energy and stuff he had in his 20s and 30s lol, whenever it's something more rowdy/active at least.

Ripley x Cas x Gabe:

I imagine it depends on what she wants to do, but I do think Gabe is like the parent she can do the like more stereotypical girly stuff with that Cas and Ripley aren't usually super into lol. I always imagine Cas is the one 'parent' who doesn't rly hold back on the vampire stuff around her, like he's super protective but doesn't rly baby her much, trusts that if she falls off something he can catch her. Makes her feel like a Big Girl lol. Like I think he'd take her to the roof of big buildings and stuff like that and if especially Gabe saw that she'd get a heart attack probably. I think Ripley is just rly fun to play with because she's just like Silly and Funny and just like rly clearly always enjoys spending time with River, I think in a way it feels the most like playing with another kid lol.

3. Who does the baby follow around more?

Rex x Tyril x Imtura:

Ruby gravitates a lil more towards Tyril while Firven is really clingy with both of them, but especially Rex when he's small. He also just really clings to Ruby a lot and wants to tag along a lot wherever she goes. When Imtura comes over Ruby always wants to spend a lot of time with/around her. I think when he's younger Firven is a bit shy towards Imtura but as he gets older and more familiar with her that goes away.

Eli x Kieran:

I think they cling to Eli a bit more, though they get more independent as they grow up and stop doing that as much, like as they get older they also need time alone more often.

Ripley x Cas x Gabe:

I feel like River is rly drawn to Cas when she's very little because he just has a lot of like shiny, dangling accessories nd chains like theres a lot going on there LOL. Ripley for a while rly tones down on all that + in general wears very simple outfits because she doesn't really have time to worry about her looks/clothes much (and just doesnt rly care either tbh) and it'd just be in the way whenever she has to feed River + it's likely gonna get dirty anyway.

6. Who has their kids’ favorite movie nearly memorized on account on how frequently they request to watch it?

Rex x Tyril x Imtura:

They don't have movies obv but they definitely have their favourite books and I imagine Tyril is the best reader so, him. But also let's be honest, Kade is The Storyteller so whenever he's over he's the one being begged to tell them their favourite stories again. Rex also loves telling stories but she always makes them up on the spot and lets them decide what's gonna happen next, I think sometimes the kids ask if she can tell a certain story again but she already forgot.

Eli x Kieran:

Eli loves reading and as an extension of that also loves reading to his kid, it's definitely gotten to the point where he can just tell some of them without needing the book at all.

Ripley x Cas x Gabe:

Ripley and Gabe, I don't think River could get Cas to watch any kids movies with her and if he caves he's doing something else the whole time. I do think when she's like 12 he's gonna try to watch a 'tame' horror movie with her and cover her eyes any time there's gonna be any gore because He has the whole thing memorized from watching it so often. She does like that tho because she likes creepy stuff and horror film plots but she's very squeamish when it comes to blood.

B. What was their first night as new parents like?

Rex x Tyril x Imtura:

Ruby was born after a cryptic pregnancy, so Rex did not know she was pregnant until she went into labor, so like Ruby's birth was terrifying, like I think Rex genuinely thought she was dying.

But ok, considering that, her thoughts are just racing that night whenever Ruby doesn't need her and she gets a moment to Think, with her feeling guilty and scared and honestly also just feeling really stupid and embarassed. It'd take her a few days before she starts talking about that.. She's been acting like everything's good and chill and no big dealll, everything will be okay.. She really is happy with Ruby though and felt a bond with her right away, so she just latches onto those feelings, in a way it feels wrong to her to start a new life on a negative note? I dunno it's just a Lot and she's feeling a lot lol, I think she hates that she didn't know, because then she'd have had all those months to process some of those feelings I guess?

That said, I think she handles actually taking care of Ruby pretty well + I think Tyril would also just (attempt to) be rly helpful n not like tht kinda partner tht just leaves her to tend to Ruby because she's the mom and the person in charge of keeping her fed and stuff, like if she's up he's up too. Though in the beginning he's still very clumsy with a lot of it because I imagine he has like no experience with babies lol. I do think after like a week of sleepless nights the whole reality of it all does actually kick in more though.

No Imtura mention because she's at sea when Ruby is born. And only finds out a few weeks later.

Eli x Kieran:

Right after his kid is born Eli is like the happiest man alive, absolutely elated, super excited. Feels like he has everything he ever wanted. I like to think that Fae and Changeling children are less fussy and need to eat less often than human babies so everything also seems like a breeze, he expects to be super busy, overwhelmed and get no sleep, but it's not that bad. I think instead of that he'd just watch them while they sleep like he can't believe he got to become a dad for real after all. I think he also starts to worry a bit for the first time about his age and like, if he and the baby will age at the same pace? Like I think he's scared he might not be there for some of their milestones, especially because his own parents died when he was still young. Like he's a lot older than both of his parents were when they passed away and that night is the first time that realisation kicks in and it scares him. Like he's just feeling a bit angsty lol. He doesn't sleep and it's not because the baby keeps him up.

Ripley x Cas x Gabe:

Ripley's mom has been really supportive the whole time, like I don't think she really thought it was a good idea for Ripley to keep the baby, but also felt like ultimately that's Ripley's choice and she would be there to support her, because that's what you do as a mom. And so she also stays with her that first night to help out, along with Gabriela and Cas. So Ripley feels really lucky to have the support, because she DOES get a bit of a wake-up call for how much a baby needs to be fed and changed, how much work it is and not just like snuggles with cute lil baby lol. I think it helps that vampires don't need to sleep though, so like after a few hours they send her mom away so she can go sleep.

I feel like Ripley and Gabe are just in awe and I think Ripley is really happy because Cas also was there with her even tho she knows the whole situation is really weird and uncomfortable to him. I think Cas wld rly warm up to River once she's born anyway, just the idea that he's her dad is weird to him lol. I do think he'd leave at some point in the night because he needs to be alone and Think. I do there's like an air of melancholy too because everyone realises that things have changed now and will never be the same.

I think in any non-vampire au, Ripley at least always really has an 'oh shit what did I get myself into'-moment that first night because the lack of sleep and being woken up constantly would very quickly get to her lol. So like funny enough even tho this is the au where it's not a great idea, she's not exactly ready for a baby and she's only 19, she does cope best because she doesn't need to try and get all the sleep she can get + walk around during daytime feeling like a zombie.

1. which mikey is your favorite version? i think the thing i like the most about bay mikey is how what you see is what you get. he is so open about who he is. i struggle to understand social cues, so someone who says what they mean and means what they say is invaluable to me

2. do you have any mikey merch? i forgot! besides what i put in yorshie’s ask, i also have two mikey stickers! i haven’t stuck them to anything though. they’re precious to me

3. is there an iteration you think could have handled him better? what would you have changed? my beloved mikey can be funny without being creepy or dumb. see “Pepperoni!” see the ‘eat humans with ranch dressing’ bit. see the part where he and raph trick casey into attacking splinter. i think they did a lot better in OOTS with the creepy part, but instead of creepy they made him oblivious. and that’s not mikey, not to me. anyway. stepping back off the soapbox

4. what headcanons do you have? outside of pizza, his favorite food is burgers. he loves the warmth of the sun but has trouble sitting still to sunbathe. he can’t sleep until he knows his family is all safe

i Love him. he's so Fascinating.

full of anger and hate for what the world did to him, how they treated him. rough exterior hidden under a layer of gloss, a too bright smile, and saccharine laughter. split in twain; wanting to be a hero, but knowing he can't be because he wants revenge More.

how silly he is! his dumb jokes, the infamous pancakes, he likes featherman, stealing the takoyaki and immediately regretting it because it's too spicy, the way he joins the others in ribbing ryuji during third semester...

2. Favorite canon thing about this character?

whenever he gets hit by an attack he's weak to, he goes straight as a fucking board before falling to the ground. it's funny every time. why does he do that

hm. i dunno. i've been trying to think of an answer to this for five minutes and the best i got is the scene where he reveals his mom committed suicide because of how weird and stilted and sloppy it is, but that's not really a fault on the backstory or Him so much as just the way they went about writing the exchange itself

generally, everybody keeps his bitchiness intact when it comes to characterizations, which is very good! but they also are pretty good about keeping what little softness that leaks through there as well

certain ways of handling his dynamics with the thieves. i say dynamics plural because another thing i hate is when people try to him them all act in a similar way in regards to him, when the simple truth is that they all should and would feel differently about him

he has a third metaverse outfit, which is the one he had when he initially awoke to his personas (i think he awakened to robin And loki simultaneously). it's a weird hodge podge of princely and knightly, black and white

Unfortunately, my brain isn't in a great describing mood but I'll try:

SkruRot: HAAHAAA!!! I've only ever seen you this red, when you're near bean's!

Arataki Itto: Shuush... You're red too...

Arataki Itto is holding my Sona! (it is a heavily headcanoned version of Itto but it's mainly to add some spice to his design when I draw it <3) Rot (lil nickname for my sona) is touching Itto's chest in a stretching-out motion, as if he is about to take both his arms and hug Itto's neck, Itto's face is one of embarrassment sticking his tongue out after murmuring his words, an indicator that this may be one of the first times that they are hugging in such a way.

I've drawn myself much smaller than Itto because enjoy the dynamic of “the goofy little guy and his hot wife" 

I also just like size differences when I put my spin on characters, Itto is just much larger than the average human when I stylize him, and the height of my sona is my own. But to be perfectly honest it fluctuates depending on my mood, silly, serious, protective, and in this case affectionate, a pink hue is cast over most of the illustration, to emphasize love and the intimate gesture of holding one's partner in their lap. 

I have removed a few details of Itto's original outfit, just for the sake of my own sanity, but overall I'm very proud of how shiny and colorful this illustration is, hopefully y'all enjoy it too! :3
