On the Clock Feelings
Synopsis: Reader is the newest employee to Family Video. While Steve has taken a liking to her, the same can not be said for Robin.
Warnings: FamilyVideoSteve x FemReader featuring Robin, new job, defensive/protective Steve, workplace banter, Steve injuring himself, pining / let me know any I missed
Word Count: 2.1K
a/n: Hey, hi, hello! This is my first oneshot in the Strangers Things universe! I had originally wrote this earlier in the year but finally got around to finishing it. I hope you enjoy!
Masterlist
âWhereâs Robin?â She had asked from the passenger seat.
âOh- sheâs skipping her lunch.â Steve lied. Robin Buckley was in fact not skipping her lunch. More like Steve had asked Robin to sit in the Family Video breakroom for just one day. Steve was also subsequently $10 more broke than yesterday, the two being completely unrelated. âSo,â he tried to change the subject, âhow are you liking Family Video?â
âItâs⊠not terrible.â She mumbled over her milkshake, poking it with the spoon as she tried to break down the oreo bits before they clogged up her straw. âKeith is⊠a bit much though.â This made Steve laugh. Not as if he wasnât always laughing in her company, but because on some level it made him feel sorry for her. The fact that Keith was their manager remained to be some lifelong karma lesson that Steve couldnât quite figure out. At least it was Saturday and Keith happened to have today off. âAnd⊠I know sheâs your friend⊠but Robin keeps pushing her work onto me.â Her body had slid lower into the seat, still cradling the cup closer to her chest. âLike I get it, Iâm the new guy. But do I have to do all the putbacks- gobacks? Like she does know I can run the desk, right?â
Steve wiped the smile from his face as he brushed the salt from his fingertips over his knee. âNo, she knows. Robin just- Robin likes to feel like sheâs in control.â This wasnât incorrect. Steve knew Robin was trying to manipulate their roles so they would have more chances to interact on the clock. So far it was working, though he was now certain to talk to Robin about maybe letting them have desk time. âBut Iâll talk to her.â Looking over to her, he noticed she was still jabbing away at the cold cream. âIs there anything else?â
âSteve. I donât need you to fight my battles for me.â His actions froze, the finger twiddling he had started paused.
âI didnât- thatâs not what-â he was fumbling for an explanation now. Once he realised how he felt, every action around her became a coordinated step.
âItâs never been like this,â he tried to explain to Robin one night. âI just get around her and start stumbling over everything.â
âWow, itâs like you have to actually try.â Robin had then mocked him.
âItâs just- Robin is my friend⊠and youâre also my friend, and I donât want my friends to fight.â How self preservative, he thought. He watched as his words played through her mind and he hoped that labeling her as a friend didnât hurt her in any way. Itâs not like they werenât friends⊠but Steve knew he felt more than a friend to her.
âWell, as your friend, I can handle myself.â Looking up to Steve, she tried not to think of how he had been looking at her. She tried not to think of how Steve Harrington, her coworker, had been almost caught staring at her lips, choosing to believe the stare and everything else in consideration were hopefully unrelated. âWhat is it?â Shaking his head, the look disappeared and a few strands of hair fell over his face.
âItâs nothing.â Looking at the watch on his wrist, he then reached for the keys, turning the car off. âWe have to go anyway.â With a simple nod, that was mostly for herself, she started helping him gather up their trash and whatever else they would need to take back into Family Video. She had almost forgotten about the overcast sky above them, the endless gray cloud that seemed to linger over all of Hawkins.
-
When they reentered Family Video together, Robinâs head naturally perked up in their direction. âOh thank goodness, youâre back!â She called to them from behind the desk. (Y/N) felt like it was mostly to Steve though, as she had never outrightly been so relieved to see her before. Springing up from her seat, Robin rounded to the cart that had been sitting just in the front corner of the desk, her hand lingering on the metal frame before sharing a smile to Steve. âNow that youâre back, this lovely cart needs to be put away and-â
âActually Robin, I was hoping we could have the desk.â Robin froze completely in place, hands still grasping the cart as she had started pushing it towards the two.
âWhat?â There was an incredulous indention to her voice, almost like she couldnât believe Steve was disagreeing with her.
âItâs just, she wanted to see the protocol for some technical situations. More practice on the computer, you know?â Nodding her head, Robin was cutting them both a glance that (Y/N) couldnât quite pick up on.
âRight.â She pushed the cart around them now, gently bumping into Steveâs shoulder. âWell, maybe you should time me. Iâm sure I can put this away faster than the two of you.â Steve rolled his eyes as Robin took the cart and pushed it away and into the aisles, disappearing for now. The two of them entered the little corral that was the hub inside the desk, the walls being the desk itself as it wrapped around them. From the corner of his eye he could see how she hesitated to even sit down, just standing ever so slightly behind him as she looked around the desk, almost unsure to touch anything.
âHere.â He pulled a stool out from under the counter, motioning for her to sit in front of the computer. When she did so, he tried to then figure out where the best place for him to stand would be. âSo- youâve used a computer before right?â He settled for standing just a bit behind and to the side of her.
âOnly a little bit?â She still sounded unsure of herself. He wondered if it were her nerves and whether, had it been anyone else in this situation, would she sound the same? She was practically sitting in front of him as he reached around her for the mouse, careful not to lean onto her or anything.
âOkay, well for starters, youâre going to want to shake the mouse to wake up the computer.â He bumped the piece and waited for the static of the screen to come to life. But there was no static, it remained silent. Pursing his lips to the side, he tried to then look under the desk and he saw it. The computer had been turned off. âOr make sure, itâs turned on.â
âYou sure you know what youâre doing?â Her voice called down to him. It brought a smile to his face as her humour started to return to her, meaning she was feeling comfortable again. For Steve though, he was too worried about how close he was to her legs that he almost didnât notice how close the underside of the desk was. That was all, until he hit his head under the counter on his way back up.
âShit!â He cursed under his breath as he stood back up to his normal posture. He tried to focus on the giggling she was failing to control, but he couldnât ignore how badly his head felt, a burning sensation over the spot.
âAre you okay?â Her body had turned to face him now, her knees nearly brushing his legs.
âSure. Wouldnât be the first time.â Steve hoped she wouldnât read too much into his words. He hadnât wanted to talk about the horrors he had seen in the last four years with her just yet. Honestly, he had hoped it would be something that she would never need to know about.
Too distracted by the pain and his thoughts, he didnât notice how her hands reached up to hold his head in her hands, palms resting just below his ear near his jawline. Her touch was soft and delicate, and Steve considered how he hadnât felt anything as pure as her hold. Looking into her eyes felt like a mistake though, like a tar trap that he wouldnât escape, not that he wanted to. While her eyes were full of concern, he saw the tender affection swimming in her irises and he tried not to drown in it. To be the star athlete he had once been praised for. But his teammates had never swam through tar. And he couldnât remember the last time he felt so much in just a stare. âWell your eyes donât look dilated.â
âTheyâre not?â He asked, his voice a whisper as his hands reached up to hold on to her wrists. âThatâs good?â
âReally good.â A smile was pulling at the corner of her lips like a homecoming banner being pulled up a wall. âIt means, no concussion.â The smile stayed, and he couldnât fight the smile growing on him at the idea that he had put hers there.
âOh.â
âHow do you feel?â With his fingers over her soft skin, he could feel the slight muscle tremor as she had tried to withdraw her hold, but he just squeezed her wrists instead, taking comfort in the warmth they were temporarily providing him.
âIt still kind of hurts.â
âMaybe you need ice?â
âYeah,â the last syllable dragged out, âice.â He had to let go of her then. They couldnât stay that way, no matter how much his heart was crying to. He couldnât fathom willingly trading the warmth she had provided him, even in that small moment, for a bag of cold ice to numb the pain at the back of his head. What about the ache in his heart? Was there a reliever for that?
While he was lost in his daydream, she got up from the stool, and with her hand now holding his wrist, tried to pull him to the backroom of Family Video. âRobin, weâll be in the back!â Steve wouldâve winced at the volume which she was talking, but her guiding him to the back seemed to balance out his pain for comfort ratio.
âNo funny business!â Robin called to them from somewhere in the shelves. âI mean it Steve Harrington!â
âGot it!â He rolled his eyes as they passed through the door, her hold on his wrist guiding him to the table at the center of the room.
âSit here. Iâll get the bag of ice.â Somehow she had found a plastic bag in some drawer behind him and the freezer had been miraculously capable of making ice today. With a paper towel wrapped around the bag, she offered it to him to hold to his head, and it was then he felt his first wave of guilt. Heâs a former student athlete, he should be taking care of himself. Why was he so resided to letting her take care of him?
âYou didnât have to do this, you know? Iâm the one who hit my head on the counter.â He tried to point out to her as she took a seat in the spot next to him. She kept her hands to herself now, watching him as he winced between the pain and the cold temperature of the ice.
âYeah well.â Her eyes looked around him before settling on him once more. âI just wanted to make sureâŠâ Breaking their gaze, she looked down to her fingers, hands clasped together so neither of them would be tempted to hold the other. âYouâre like, the only one looking out for me, here. I just wanted to do the same for you.â She looked back to him now, not sure what to expect from his expression. But there was a smirk on his lips, a smugness she hadnât seen on him. âWhat?â
âYou justâŠâ Waiting on his words, she wasnât really sure what he would say. âYou care about me?â The smug coating of his words never left his face. Her brain was backpedaling to get out from under that feeling.
âI mean, you're my coworker.â Ouch. âAnd the only one thatâs been checking in on me. So yeah?â Removing the ice pack from his head, he noticed how some of the ice was beginning to melt, a small collection of water at the bottom of the bag.
âCoworker?â He asked, attention still on the water sloshing around the bag.
âYes?â
âThatâs funny.â
âWhat?â
âThatâs just a weird label for someone you care about.â He thought he had this one. That they had danced around each other verbally enough that he could win this one.
âWell thatâs what you are, so-â Itâs not what I would like to be. Steve let their banter die out.
Let her have this one, he thought to himself, there will be plenty more to come.

Cal Takes Down Arizona
Onyiah Scores Career-High 25 Points
PALM SPRINGS â The California women's basketball team got down by as many as nine points against Arizona in the first quarter but took control of the game in the second and didn't look back, using a dominant performance from Michelle Onyiah to help the Golden Bears defeat the Wildcats 74-62 at the Acrisure Classic in Palm Springs on Wednesday. Onyiah registered her second consecutive double-double with a career-high 25 points (11-of-14) and a season-high 13 rebounds to help Cal (7-1) snap a seven-game losing streak against Arizona (6-3) and give the Bears their' third win this season against a team that played in the 2024 NCAA Tournament. "Our mentality was definitely to be the tougher team," Cal head coach Charmin Smith said. "Arizona is a really aggressive defensive team. They have some really active and athletic players on offense who can get to the basket, but we wanted to be the tougher team on both ends of the floor. And I think we did that, and I think that allowed us to get the win." Lulu Twidale continued her hot shooting as she poured in 18 points with four triples (4-of-8) for the Bears while Gisella Maul added a career-high 10 points. Kayla Williams and Ioanna Krimili each dished out six assists and Williams came down with a season-high seven rebounds. The Bears were aggressive all afternoon, getting to the charity stripe 26 times â their sixth game this season with at least 20 attempts. Onyiah scored the first three buckets for the Bears in the first quarter, but Cal went cold while Arizona went on a 11-0 run, aided by three turnovers to take a 16-8 lead with under four minutes to go. Onyiah stopped the bleeding with her fourth bucket and Twidale hit a triple to get Cal within six points at the 1:50 mark. After Krimili drew an intentional foul and hit both free throws, the Bears drew an offensive foul with five seconds left. Zahra King took the inbounds pass from midcourt and drove to the cup for a layup to beat the buzzer and cut the deficit to just four points heading into the second quarter. In the second quarter, Maul secured an offensive rebound and found Twidale for her second 3-pointer to cap a 7-0 run to get the Bears within one point with 6:39 to go. Onyiah followed up with a putback layup to put Cal back in front with five minutes to go in the half. Twidale's third triple pushed the Bears' lead to 33-29 with under two minutes to go and Cal held Arizona to just two field goals over the last six minutes to take a 37-31 lead into the break. Arizona used a 9-0 run early in the third quarter to regain the lead before Twidale knocked down her fourth 3-pointer of the game to answer back and put Cal back up two. The Bears held the Wildcats to a scoreless stretch of over three minutes while going 5-of-6 from the field and took a 54-46 lead with a minute to go. Onyiah was a perfect 4-for-4 for 10 points in the quarter. Arizona cut the deficit to seven points on a triple with 8:54 to go but Maul answered two possessions later with a 3-pointer of her own to extend Bears' lead to 12 points â their biggest of the game. Arizona's Jada Williams hit a 3-pointer to cut it back to eight points with 2:10 remaining and the Cats forced a turnover which led to a fast break layup to go down six with 29 seconds left. That was as close as they would get as the Bears knocked down 5-of-7 free throws down the stretch to ice the game. "I think our biggest strength was getting the ball into Michelle and the way that she finished around the rim," Smith said. "We didn't have that yesterday (in a loss to Michigan State). I'm really proud to see her get a career high and do what she needed. I think our bench was really helpful. Zahra [King] gave us some crucial minutes in the first half. Gisella [Maul] played some crucial minutes for us throughout the game, and I'm just really proud of the efforts that we're getting from everyone else."

Prologue
Ahhhh, Pisay. Where do I even begin with you?
In all honesty, the thought of me graduating hasnât really hit me hard yet. Sure, there were moments in our last day on campus that a tear droplet nearly fell out of my eyes as I walked through the corridors for one last time, but I canât really describe what Iâm feeling as Iâm writing this. I liken it to a state of limbo in which Iâm extremely hyped to dip my toes into the realm of college, but also torn to shreds every time I think of the people that I have to leave behind in the process.
If you ask me what I remember from my Pisay life for the past six years, the default answer I would give would probably be the grandest events. Buwan ng Wika with the best quartet in Pisay CARC history: Edryll, Maron, RP, Jamil. The field trip where I visited spots in Baguio for the very first time as a born and raised Baguio boy. Food Fair with my best performance as a dead weight. Pi Day which turned into a two-week break which turned into a two year blended curriculum. Last Intramurals season with my teammates helping me get to the Mythical 5, shouting out the Grade 12 peeps Wrenzel, Zyr, Paul, Rainier. Prom night. Isko night. My journey to Mt. Pulag. These would probably be the most common themes if you were to survey the batch regarding their best experiences here in this institution. However, what is going through my mind right now are the little things, fleeting moments that will probably be forgotten as years pass, but canât help reminiscing over because of its raw sentimental value.
The jamming sessions, Harley on the guitar with Andrew blasting his vocals singing Ang Huling El Bimbo for the nth time. The random conversations with Wrenzel and Raizen where Raizen hits you with the most out of the blue question to the point that you can see a large ass question mark on Wrenzelâs forehead. The 3v3s with the teachers, chasing Sir Jed and Sir Ace around screens like theyâre Pisayâs version of Steph Curry and Klay Thompson, then proceeding to rotate to Sir Dems or Sir Jo violently backing you down like theyâre Nikola Jokic. The pick-and-rolls with Johann, the dude seems to just get it to your hands at the right place at the right time every single possession. The chaotic games with the Grade 9s as Zach tosses up his Manny Pacquiao looking ass jumpshot and Kishan rebounds it to blow the putback layup. The high scores I would get in the English literature quizzes as I compare them with Kimeeâs and Leahâs. The Grade 7s flocking around me on the yellow bleachers to dap me up after airballing their shots a whopping 60 times. The bear crawls across the 1st floor as punishment for the District Meet team, Kyle having the goofiest one there. The commute to Aurora Hill with Zyr where he is either in the deepest slumber possible or trying to get an update on my romantic situation. The blue store convos that can reach up to 7pm with Maron, Nicole, Neal, and Sam. The service days with Aya and Leah back when watching them get sermoned was hilarious. The nerve wracking debates, Aira and Pao carry me every time. The post-math LT verification process with Harley explaining what is basic trigonometry to me, The heart-to-hearts with Paul. The times I confessed my feelings. The times I got rejected. The times I cried myself to sleep doubting my physical appearance.
The little things.
Combine them all together and you have a melting pot in which you can experience what my Pisay life was like with just one sip from the ladle. If you notice, it really isnât any different from a high school life in general. Pisayers get put with so much pressure and mounted expectations that we tend to forget that weâre not just robots churning out requirements, and while Pisay for me meant that in some sort of capacity, it also meant discovering myself more as a newfound adolescent. A sort of Holden Caulfield journey with less travelling around the States and more phony characters in play.
But it worked out in the end. Pretty high GWA. Academic award. Excellence award. Proficiency awards. Competitions under my belt. Personal projects on the side. Somewhat of a nice legacy. Pisay has also granted me the opportunity to see beyond the academic realm and discover who I truly am. No longer was I the valedictorian in elementary who was tasked to do pretty much everything for the image of the school. I needed my own niche. My own bubble. My own universe condensed into the palm of my hands ready to show the world what I can bring to the table.
And so, to end this stream of consciousnessâŠ
TO EVERYONE IN PISAY â
THANK YOU!!!!
To my parents, thank you for your unwavering love and support for me. I know it started out rough for me. It was the first guidance counsellor meeting for low grades and the first time I saw a flying saucer related to silverware and not aliens. However, knowing that I had a place where I could be unapologetically me helped in building my own sense of identity, and your caring nature got me to where I am today. To Dad, thank you for the late night snacks, and to Mama, thank you for the weekend dates. Iâm going to miss both of you so much in QC.
To my teachers, thank you for imparting your knowledge and wisdom unto me. To be honest, Iâm really questioning the real life application in half of the lessons I have learned in my Pisay journey, but one aspect I will never forget is the values and critical thinking skills that were passed down through diffusion along the way. To Maâam Melai, thank you for always believing in me and my ability for every writing competition I participate in. To Maâam Melki, thank you for your generosity and warmheartedness that I will treasure forever. To Sir Quantum, thank you for igniting my passion for Physics with your corny jokes and effort in crafting fun practice problems for us. To Maâam Krystel, thank you for enlisting me in my very first competition, and subsequently increasing my self-confidence tenfold. To Maâam Sol, thank you for your everloving care for us Stats babies; we really miss you and I hope to see you face to face some time soon. To Sir Arfe, thank you for teaching me how to cook; hopefully I can use it come college time. To Maâam Abby, thank you for molding my writing ability into its current quality. To Sir Ariel, thank you for your unwavering kindness for our batch and your willingness to help us judge or critique our requirements in other subjects. Lastly, to Maâam Eden, thank you for being the first teacher to see the potential in me to do great things here in Pisay. It sounded ludicrous at the start, but Iâm glad I manifested it.
To my batchmates, from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! I know I started off being probably the most obnoxious and arrogant pre-teen in the fabric of space-time, but I am genuinely grateful that you gave me a second chance at life, given that it was probably easier for your mental health to just simply cancel me and cast me off aside as early as Grade 8. I also know that I did and will continue to make mistakes in the future, but I hope you know that I am going through all of these with the subconscious effort of making strides to better myself as a person. I wish you all the best of luck in your future endeavors.
To myself, well, youâre not done. UPD Economics is coming your way. New faces, new campus, new professors, new chinitas, but same old you. Donât lose that spark inside you that has been igniting your motivation to study for the past 18 years you have been doing this. Donât marry early either. Wear protection.
Thank you for everything Pisay! Iâll see you when I can.

can you make a 5 song playlist describing Chris?
Definitely, I can give ya five songs that sum up Chris pretty well.
1.Lonesome Love by Mitski
2. Little Flower by The Putbacks
3. Shadow Man by Noname
4. It Was a Home by KAINA
5. Everybody's Something by Chance the Rapper
So a lot of these songs relate not just to his childhood but just his general view of himself. The baker is a very solitary if not somewhat lonely individual. Despite this, he tends to keep going and 'fighting' in his own ways (fixing family mistakes, attempting to form connections, and being kind in ways his family isn't). Shadow Man is probably the most 'Chris' song on this playlist, with its theme of coming to terms with one's own mortality and still going on despite life's challenges.

571/2023 KM done for the year We are 3-0 in basketball, another blowout DUBYA for me. I was frustrated most the game because I was shooting brutally, like 5/20 I want to say, I swatted two shots off the backboard straight to some other dude for a putback, every rebound felt like it was going off these random angles, just tough, but I ended up finishing with like 7 straight pull-ups and pindowns just straight net so I mean whatever it all works out I guess and we won by more than 20. As for running, a very good week for me as well. Iâve had 3 really good runs in a row and the one I had last night was my best of the year by a pretty comfortable margin. Iâm also 11KM ahead of my pace which is two full days of running, so I donât have the stress of falling behind right now. I still want to extend it so Iâm not struggling to hit the milestone next winter. Workâs going well, too. Hand feels strong so Iâm cutting back to my normal pace, been wearing knee braces which help with a lot of arthritis issues I was having, canât really complain about anything at the moment. Been better about dieting so Iâm losing some weight at a pretty controlled pace.

Cal Wins Thriller Over Auburn
Twidale Triples Power Late Rally
Golden Bears Remain Undefeated
BERKELEY â In its toughest matchup of the season so far, the California women's basketball team was down by six with five minutes left in the game before Lulu Twidale came to the rescue connecting on back-to-back 3-pointers to power an 11-0 run and help the Golden Bears (6-0) come away with a 63-59 win over visiting Auburn at Haas Pavilion on Friday night. The win gave Cal its second straight victory over the Tigers (3-2) after it won last year's matchup in Auburn and its second this season over a team from last year's NCAA Tournament as the Bears beat Gonzaga earlier in the month. The Bears have now matched their best start under head coach Charmin Smith having also started the 2023-24 season at 6-0.  One of the nation's leading 3-point shooters, Twidale had her second 20-point outing of the year finishing with 22 points (7-of-11) and four 3-pointers (4-of-8). Ioanna Krimili knocked down three triples in the first quarter and ended up with 14 points to go along with six assists for the second consecutive game. Michelle Onyiah and Marta SuĂĄrez both brought down eight rebounds to tie for the game high.  The Bears held the Tigers to just one made 3-pointer and their leading scorer, Taliah Scott, who came into the game averaging 27.0 points per game to just seven points.  In the first quarter, two triples from Krimili and one from Twidale gave the Bears an early 9-7 lead. Onyiah blocked a shot which led to a fast break and 3-point play by Twidale for the Bears' fourth straight field goal to put the Bears up 14-9. SuĂĄrez hit a turnaround jumper in the paint to cap a 7-0 run and put the Bears up 10 with under two minutes to go but that would be their biggest lead of the night.  Auburn fought back and opened the second quarter on a 6-0 run to get within 23-19 at the 7:19 mark. Cal was held scoreless from the field until Kayla Williams drove to the rim for a layup at the 4:50 mark. The Tigers tied it up at 25-25 on a layup with 2:41 to go in the half. The Bears only hit two field goals in the quarter but converted six free throws. Williams was able to swipe a steal and outlet the ball to Twidale for a layup to give the Bears a 31-28 lead with under a minute to go. After the Tigers missed a layup on their last possession, Lola Donez came away with the rebound and rushed up the court and got fouled on a 3-point heave attempt, but only made one from the charity stripe giving Cal a 33-30 lead heading into the break.  After the Tigers made their first two field goals of the third quarter, Onyiah grabbed an offensive rebound and found Twidale for her second 3-pointer of the game followed by a triple from Williams to put the Bears up 39-34 with 7:31 to go. The Bears went three minutes without a field goal until SuĂĄrez grabbed an offensive rebound and made a putback to tie the game at 45-45 at the 1:16 mark. Cal would turn it over on back-to-back possessions leading to Auburn layups to close the third quarter giving the Tigers a 49-45 lead going into the final frame.  After the consecutive triples from Twidale tied the game at 57-57 with 4:16 to go, Krimili found Onyiah in the paint for a layup to re-gain the lead for Cal â one it would not give up for the remainder of the game. With the Bears up just two, Onyiah secured a steal and found Twidale who drew a clutch shooting foul with just 40 seconds left. She made 1-of-2 to put Cal up three and Williams came up with a key steal on the Tigers' next possession forcing them to foul. A pair of blocks by Onyiah and Krimili helped keep Auburn scoreless over the final five minutes until the Tigers hit a layup down five with 16 seconds left.
