Shrek the Third (2007)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/4481b1428795f2200872701e2035be2c/97c1171a6688fd3d-ad/s540x810/e30d3aeffb1f63e5f77d877a9bc85f0638d8b0e8.jpg)
While I didn't enjoy this film, that doesn't mean you won't. No matter what I say, the people involved in this project did it: they actually made a movie. That's something to be applauded. With that established...
The drop in quality between Shrek 2 and Shrek the Third is so steep you'll wonder why anyone bothered. There’s nothing inspired here in terms of plot, character development, humour or even pop-culture references. It’s a devastating letdown that disappoints more the longer you watch.
King Harold (John Cleese) is dying and names Shrek (Mike Myers) and Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz) as his successors. Convinced an ogre will be unfit to rule the kingdom of Far Far Away, Shrek decides to track down her cousin, Arthur “Artie” Pendragon (Justin Timberlake). With the help of Donkey (Mike Myers) and Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas), our swamp-loving hero is off, but not before Fiona reveals she is pregnant. Meanwhile, a washed-up Prince Charming (Rupert Everett) vows revenge.
The story by Andrew Adamson - adapted by Jeffrey Price, Peter S. Seaman, Chris Miller and Aron Warner - is so flawed I don’t know if there was any salvaging it. By and large, it’s really just the same plot as the original film. Shrek and Donkey - plus Puss - have to find a royal and bring them to a castle so Shrek can get his swamp back the way he wants it to be. Oh sure, there are slight differences. Obviously Artie doesn’t fall in love with the green meanie the way Fiona did but they do have that big “lover’s quarrel” scene once true intentions are revealed.
What you essentially get is Shrek but without anything that made it magical. The characters aren’t fresh the way they were before. Worse, the well of fairytale-based jokes has been drained dry, leaving this movie with few opportunities to make you laugh. I know you could argue whether Red Riding Hood or the Three Blind Mice really fit the fairy tales motif but King Arthur? Sans excalibur and with only a couple of lame scenes where an exaggerated, incompetent and loopy Merlin (Eric Idle) appears? It feels completely out of place.
Tonally, director Chris Miller misses the mark so thoroughly it's almost like it's on purpose. The first scene has a humiliated Prince Charming mourning his now-dead mother. Next a parade of scenes of Shrek grumbling about how much he hates Far Far Away and how much he doesn’t want to rule. He then finds an excuse to abandon his wife so he can pawn the kingdom off on some schmo he’s never met. In no time, you're sympathizing with the villain rather than the hero. Yes, Charming turns out to be malicious but it feels like the character was re-written to be the antagonist. From what we saw previously, there was nothing to indicate he had any volition of his own; he was just a mama’s boy raised to believe he should rule. Couldn’t Fiona wear the crown? How about the still-living Queen? What if Artie had been this megalomaniac who, after obtaining power, used it to get revenge on everyone who bullied him at high school? Shrek would’ve come off as an even bigger jerk than he already is.
Even the choice of songs doesn’t feel right. Whereas Livin’ La Vida Loca, I’m Holding out for a Hero and All-Star in Shreks 1 & 2 either subverted your expectations in a novel way, drove the story forward through non-litteral music, or both, there’s nothing about the short clip of Immigrant Song and the cover of Live of Let Die during the royal funeral that comes close. Where’s the wit? Where are the unusual choices that don't seem to fit on paper, but in execution work so well?
I doubt anyone who saw Shrek the Third upon its original release remembers it. They might remember some of what happens, but the way the movie made you feel? No way. That’s because this comedy has no heart. It’s diet water served after two classic animated comedies. I’d say I hated it, but that's incendiary, passionate - too good for Shrek The Third. The people behind the scenes knew this movie would be a hit so they rushed out a mediocre product because they knew they could. (On DVD, August 9, 2019)

We did it! It's a thing!
[I don't know who made this...But bless them. Bless them for life!]
'Big' Jack Horner is one of several main antagonists in the movie Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. His brutal nature, warped sense of humour and lack of morals quickly turned him into a unique character for the fandom, as did his enormous, disproportionate frame and penchant for magical weaponry. Although the Wolf enjoys most of the internet's lascivious attentions, Jack Horner somehow manages to eke out quite a few admirers of his own.
Basic Information
A heartless, sadistic collector of magical artefacts, Jack used to be known as 'Little' Jack Horner from the nursery rhyme of the same name. Now a huge, intimidating adult, Jack runs a criminal empire under the guise of his inherited pie company, and uses hired guns to procure magical items for his collection, which is housed in a "trophy room" in his factory. Throughout the film, Jack seeks the fabled Wishing Star, a fallen star able to grant one wish to whoever finds it, hoping that it will make true his ultimate dream: to become the Master of All Magic, and to own and control all of the magic in the whole world, not sharing any of it.
Villain lovers, fat men enjoyers and artists alike have rejoiced at Jack's unique design, utter contempt for the notion of villainous redemption, and his generally hilarious attitude. Considered a breath of evil fresh air, you won't have to look far to find ravenous fans wanting a taste of this pie man's sweet, tasty filling.
Archetypes
4th Wall Blurring
Although it is not explicit in the film, it is widely accepted in fanon that Jack allegorically represents Disney, or at the very least large media corporations absorbing smaller properties. Jack sticks out in the narrative as explicitly not having a character arc, and instead doubling down on his awful nature when given the opportunity to justify his behaviour through his backstory. He seems quite aware of the fairy tale tropes surrounding him, but throws them away to focus on becoming more powerful.
Brick Shithouse/Tall
Jack is currently the tallest villain in the Shrek franchise - spin-offs included - and he is almost as wide as he is tall. Jack breaks the traditional Sexyman mold by being a fabulously fat man with a super long torso, gigantic hands, and comparitively tiny dancer's legs. The elegance with which he moves combined with his staggering physical size and strength are prime reasons for Jack becoming an object of lust.
Capitalist
Jack is incredibly wealthy; he lives in a mansion, owns a thriving baked goods empire, and has a large staff of loyal, trained assassins under his control (The Baker's Dozen). Likewise, he has plenty of money to hire mercenaries to hunt down his desired magical artefacts. He is even shown to own the still-functional severed hand of King Midas himself.
Chaoslord
The methods of violence Jack employs are all magical in nature, and involve a great deal of randomness and chaos. Whether it's beating up The Three Bears by golf-smacking them with Excalibur or exploding people into confetti using a crossbow loaded with unicorn horns, Jack revels in chaos and enjoys destruction and bloodshed.
Controversial
He's probably the most evil character in the entire Shrek franchise.
Criminal
Jack is a through-and-through criminal; our very first introduction to Jack even shows off his wanted poster! Using hired guns to obtain magical artefacts through a great deal of murderous activity, Jack's possessions are largely obtained by unethical or illegal practices, or are otherwise morally bankrupt by nature. This includes his collection of baby unicorn horns, which appear to have been harvested from the 'horses' that pull his carriage, his ship-in-a-bottle containing many still-living Lilliputians, the severed hand of King Midas, and a phoenix that he keeps in a birdcage and uses as an unwilling flamethrower.
Cosmic
Jack is obsessed with finding the Wishing Star: a fallen star capable of granting anyone's wish. In the climax of the film, Jack participates in an epic final battle with Puss, Kitty, Perrito, Goldie and The Three Bears, using the Wishing Star as a platform. After being defeated, he is swallowed by the collapsing star and presumably dies.
Dealmaker
Jack is shown to make deals with his hired guns in exchange for traditional payment. For instance, Jack agrees to give The Serpent Sisters their weight in gold for their finding the map to the Wishing Star, but Jack tricks them by using King Midas' hand to turn one sister into gold, thereby technically fulfilling his end of the bargain.
Distinctive Voice
Jack is voiced by John Mulaney, and his whiny, aggressive, high-pitched voice is extremely distinctive. His voice adds a great deal of humour to his character, but also provides an interesting contrast when he becomes threatening.
Dominating
Perhaps the most significant contributing factor to his Sexyman status; Jack dominates everyone around him with ease. He boasts an army of trained assassins (in particular his 'Bakers Dozen') who are all willing to lay down their lives for Jack (often doing so), as well as enduring tremendous physical and emotional pain for him. In a literal sense, Jack is huge - canonically the tallest villain in the whole Shrek franchise - with a Kingpin-like, broad-shouldered frame, a large gut, and enormous hands. Jack also interacts with the world around him in an aggressive manner: he shows little care for his coveted magical objects, swings about extremely heavy weapons with ease, and is not above shooting puppies in the face with a crossbow.
Egotistical
Jack has a very high opinion of himself and what he deserves. When Gemini Stewart (the knock-off Jiminy Cricket who judges Jack's character) attempts to prod for Jack's backstory, Jack tells him all he wants is to own all of the magic in the world, and not leave a bit for anyone else. In addition, the way Jack treats others - that is, with a complete disregard for the value of life - signifies his general egocentrism.
Hot-Headed
In no time at all, we are introduced to Jack's famously short temper. He has no tolerance for people who get in his way, and routinely becomes irate with those who work for him when they are not quick or efficient enough, or if they do not live up to his standards.
Intelligence
Jack's intelligence is of the sinister variety. He runs a criminal empire as the underside to a seemingly legitimate pie business, and is able to accrue a great deal of priceless magical artefacts whilst cheating his hired guns out of their promised pay.
Knife murder
Jack is nothing if not a blood-hungry, weapons-adept, murder-happy monster of a man, and has been praised as one of the first unapologetically homicidal villains seen in a big-budget animated movie for quite some time. Whether he's threatening to shoot Perrito, a literal puppy, in the face with a crossbow or allowing his own men to be devoured by carnivorous flowers, Jack is incredibly comfortable with murder, and even seems to take a sick pleasure in it at times.
Power
Power is the cornerstone of Jack's identity. Following his being snubbed as the central character of the Little Jack Horner nursery rhyme, Jack rebuilds his identity as 'Big' Jack Horner: a physically huge and intimidating man with an incredible amount of control, and zero conscience concerning his terrible actions. He actively hoards powerful magical artefacts for his own personal gain, and explicitly does not want anyone else to partake in the power of magic. Whilst seemingly motivated in some part by wealth according to his flashback, it is power which Jack craves the most.
Upper-Class
Jack was raised in a mansion in a wealthy family, and inherited their lucrative pie-making business. He views these things as "worthless crap."
Urban Legend Aesthetic
A little bit of a deviation, but Jack's origins within the Little Jack Horner nursery rhyme qualify him for folkloric status, which is urban legend-adjacent.
Villain
In a movie with multiple "bad guys," it has been hotly debated by the fandom as to who counts as an actual villain as opposed to an antagonist: seemingly the only thing that everyone can agree on is that Jack is indisputably a villain. He is callous, devoid of morals, quick to anger, utterly without remorse and loves causing pain and suffering. This is why Jack is being lauded as a return to form for truly bad villains - a character you love to hate.
Well-Dressed
Jack is a very well-dressed man; his ensemble includes a deep plum-coloured suit and tie replete with a waistcoat, a magnificent long coat in the same shade, and some decadently stylish black heeled boots. He is undoubtedly a Suitguy, and an extra-fashionable one at that: note the pie pattern on his waistcoat!

[flufftober day 4, wc: 896] - costume party : n. rei
“WE LOOK STUPID,” you finally laugh, after scrutinizing you and rei’s reflections wearing matching halloween costumes. you’re flashily dressed in a dazzling inflatable banana costume, the ends so ridiculously long they make you taller than rei, who’s posing like a 2011 tumblr girl and making kissy faces and v-signs in her absurd blueberry costume.
“we look like we’re gonna steal the show,” she retorts, attempting to direct her kissy face straight to your cheek. it doesn’t make it halfway through because of how wide the blueberry costume is. you snort.
yujin’s costume party doesn’t have a specific theme, it never does. there’s many upsides to this—for one, you don’t have to stress about fitting in. but it also means the voting that occurs near the end of the party isn’t the most fair, because everyone has their own distinguishing tastes. last year, wonyoung captured everyone’s hearts with a rerun of her witch costume with some added tweaks and whatnot, beating even yunjin’s rendition of puss in boots, who was also accompanied by hanni whom she forced into a humpty dumpty costume.
you shudder at the thought of having to leave your house in a banana costume. you weren’t lying when you said that the two of you look stupid. but hey, on the bright side? you’re finally taller than rei! haha. ha. “can we go already?”
rei bumps into you, making you stagger to the side, and giggles out an “oops” before she dashes towards the front door. except she doesn’t even fit through the doorframe with her blueberry costume, so she ends up falling on her back.
“karma’s a bitch,” you covered your mouth with your hand to hide your shit-eating grin, “you should’ve known better~”
the blueberry glares at you, flailing her arms and legs in an attempt to hit you. “you will never be jojo siwa. now help me up, please.”
“rei, y/n! welcome i—you can’t fit through the fence like that, can you,” gaeul laughs in disbelief, letting you in first (you had to duck because of the archway) before crossing her arms at rei. it’s a struggle at first, but she quite literally pops out on the other side. comedy gold, if you do say so yourself.
the annual halloween party is always at yujin’s house, at the huge backyard that has a small stage set up by yujin and jiwon every year. there’s a small hole in the center of the wooden stage from two years ago when haewon stabbed her excalibur into the ground, and burn marks in the front from someone’s bowser fire breath (a flamethrower), but the host refuses to retire the poor frazzled stage.
because of how long it took you two to get into the costume and out of the house, and to walk to yujin’s without dying of laughter every few seconds, you’re actually very late… which means everyone is looking at you upon your arrival. your cheeks burn in slight embarrassment but whatever, it was to be expected when you agreed to match with rei this year.
“when i said you two were fruity with each other, i didn’t mean it literally,” hyunseo giggles, clad in an oversized tiger onesie. the ends are bunching up over her sneakers, and she steps on herself a few times before regaining her balance. “the walkup is about to start!”
someone in a hulk suit bumps into rei, who bumps into you, and you stumble slightly. you smirk unabashedly. “who said we weren’t fruity?”
the younger girl shrugs and gestures towards the stage, and the next thing you know, you and rei are strutting down the wooden stage with poise and confidence. the crowd (filled with fellow people shamelessly dressed in almost as laughable costumes) erupts in cheers and laughter, many taking out their cellular devices to capture the moment. rei, again, makes kissy faces and v-signs, this time reaching for you so her kiss actually lands on your cheek. the area where her lips landed burns a seal on your heart, effectively speeding it up.
you also forgot that there was a hole in the stage, so when you start heading to the stairs on the other side, you slip and almost fall over. phew, that would’ve been so embarrassing. ’let’s just hope rei doesn’t do the sa—why is the floor getting closer?’
a collective “oh…” spreads throughout the lively backyard, and you feel the dumb inflatable blueberry against your back. she mumbles an “ow” that is barely audible through the fabric of your banana suit.
a microphone screeches, and the strong voice of ahn yujin booms in your ears and possibly the whole neighborhood. you wonder just how many noise complaints she gets by the next day; yujin’s party is always full of people that she probably doesn’t even know, her original guests inviting others, and so on. (your) banana-blueberry duo are still stacked on each other, neither making a move to get off of the stage and instead stay laying down. yujin taps the mic, and you turn your head slightly to see her adjust her tin foil hat.
“that was something,” she glances at you with slight sympathy, “all in favor of voting rei and y/n for tonight’s winners?”
the crowd cheers. you groan at your body pain.
rei giggles. “we won!
happy halloween, you suppose.

weekly update #5 - 22/03/23
Bit late with this one, so I’m hoping next week’s can kind of make up for it!
I’ve found the past few weeks pretty difficult ADHD-wise, everything feels like it’s not quite concrete. But I’m slowly working through it! Trying to tell myself that at least I am doing work, and that is something. Some progress is better than none!
I did some studies in Storyboard Pro from Puss in Boots: The Last Wish - couldn’t figure out how to embed it on tumblr, but it can be found here!
I set myself a 3 minute timer for each one, and only traced the first study, because after that I realised this wouldn’t be quite accurate to how I work. It was a fun little exercise, and was nice to try and deconstruct the amazing composition used in the film, as well as practice my shorthand.
Spent last week doing some worldbuilding, though! Which was very long overdue.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/9e72ec9479c60592d6644b3f4086dff4/58cb98b39c48811f-8c/s540x810/ccdbee47df2fb812fab13f4f37f7cfc993e3694e.jpg)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/7c433cbc0326027907fd64b66ac61c65/58cb98b39c48811f-30/s540x810/b649d3cffe02da412c62bc51892b5709e76d6e9b.jpg)
While this isn’t quite ‘story’ things, it feels like much much more of a solid foundation to start thinking about my scenes on, and did give me an idea for a small scene I’d like to try and board this week!
Also had a go at some rough designs for JJ’s ship - The Excalibur. I’d love to do some isometric/more detailed drawings of the ship, and will try to if I get the time.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/a96eb76da4bf3de696558931ea0076de/58cb98b39c48811f-45/s540x810/06219cd17854aef181e667a86ae105eca180ee4b.jpg)
And some very, very rough sketches, with the bottom being what I hope to be the start of the rest of the crew on Proserpina!
I don’t like saying I’m not ‘proud’ of what I’ve done in a certain week, especially if I haven’t felt great. But I do love my project, and just want to do a bit more! So I’m going to try and do so for the rest of my week, with my updates resuming their normal Monday scheduling on the 27th!

Sooo, I finally watched Puss in Boots The Last Wish.
Good fairy tale/legends concepts (Excalibur, Alice in Wonderland, and other Kingdom He… *cough cough* stuff. Buuut, Crystal cove is really KH III Frozen level), however, not enough story development, it was rushed. My favorite character is Goldilocks and her moving development. Giant villain is meh.

Puss & His 2 Boots was an amazing film. I was worried it was getting a little overhyped, but I'm so glad that wasn't the case. Can't think of anything but praise for the film, and I didn't even go in with any negative feelings to be surprised with, I liked the original Puss in Boots and was excited to see Dreamworks work their sequel magic.
I really love the Shrek universe and how Dreamworks has been playing with it. It's a really awesome evolution from its parody origins, no longer relying on just poking fun at nursey rhymes and fairy tales w/ contemporary references. They're taking the idea of these fictions and giving them fresh, exciting spins -- original ideas that breathe new life into the characters. Goldilocks and the bears FLOORED me, I was so impressed with their adaptation, not only just a hilarious concept but a perfectly heartwarming setup considering the premise of the plot. Jack Horner is a great villain here too, and his bag of fantastical items is a great gimmick that was constantly a lot of fun -- I loved when he pulled out Excalibur still-in-the-stone, and just uses it like a hammer, wow that needs to be in a video game if it hasn't already.
I mean seriously, everything was just good in this film. Puss's story was compelling, a classic concept of a cat with nine lives, taken to serious levels, with Puss having to truly face fears. I was concerned Perrito would be annoying or deadweight comic relief, but I was really happy with his inclusion. Importantly, his jokes were actually funny while still keeping him sympathetic, but he also fills an important narrative tool for getting Puss and Kitty to develop.
And through all this, there's awesome animation, kickass fights, brilliant humor, beautiful locations. The plot kept me guessing, rarely felt like anything was predictable; I especially enjoyed the map and how it effects the terrain depending on who touches it, leading to these crazy set changes that feel so natural and took me off-guard at times. The pacing is wonderful, never too fast or dense, but so fluid and effective, I can really remember so much of this movie just because the storybeats were so rhythmic.
Absolutely worth a watch for just about anyone. Legitimately, I only have one minor complaints, highly subjective, and that's that I don't think I quite get the whole appeal behind the action scenes' lower frame rates. I mean I guess I get it, it makes combat feel more intense and hard, and I do like the effect when it shows non-combatants in the foreground at normal FPS, but background character in-combat are at the staggered FPS. Beyond that, I guess I found the effect more jarring than immersive, and I know a few movies have really been drawn to this style so, I'm sure it must work for most people. Idk, I can take it or leave it, and wouldn't just mind seeing these action sequences in a stable, consistent FPS.
But that's the meanest thing I can say. Everything else was excellent, absolutely my favorite movie in the past, like three or five years probably.

Cursed: Arthur Retold with a Feminist Perspective
Renowned comics creator Frank Miller will team with Thomas Wheeler (Puss in Boots) to reimagine the legend of King Arthur from the perspective of a 16-year-old Nimue, also known as the Lady of the Lake, in the illustrated Young Adult novel Cursed.
Miller, who is known for his work on comics such as Batman: Year One, Sin City and 300, will provide both color and black-and-white illustrations for the YA book.
"I have always been entranced by the mythological Arthur story — and by Nimue, in particular," Miller told Entertainment Weekly. "It can be interpreted in any number of ways — from a delightful children’s story, as in The Sword in the Stone, to a terrifying interpretation like Excalibur. This tale represents an incredible opportunity and an exciting challenge for me as an illustrator, and I’m excited to collaborate on the story with Thomas Wheeler. I inherited a collection of antique children’s books from my mother, and I’ve always wanted to have a crack at it myself. This project is a dream come true."
The Lady of the Lake is the true hero in this cinematic twist on the tale of King Arthur created by Thomas Wheeler and legendary artist, producer, and director Frank Miller (300, Batman: The Dark Night Returns, Sin City). Featuring 8 full color and 30 black-and-white pieces of original artwork by Frank Miller. Whosoever wields the Sword of Power shall be the one true King. But what if the Sword has chosen a Queen? Nimue grew up an outcast. Her connection to dark magic made her something to be feared in her Druid village, and that made her desperate to leave… That is, until her entire village is slaughtered by Red Paladins, and Nimue’s fate is forever altered. Charged by her dying mother to reunite an ancient sword with a legendary sorcerer, Nimue is now her people’s only hope. Her mission leaves little room for revenge, but the growing power within her can think of little else. Nimue teams up with a charming mercenary named Arthur and refugee Fey Folk from across England. She wields a sword meant for the one true king, battling paladins and the armies of a corrupt king. She struggles to unite her people, avenge her family, and discover the truth about her destiny. But perhaps the one thing that can change Destiny itself is found at the edge of a blade.

Netflix is pulling a sword from a stone in its upcoming original series, Cursed. Based on King Arthur’s Lady of the Lake, the project comes from comic book writer/artist Frank Miller (The Dark Knight Returns, Sin City) and Puss in Boots writer/producer Tom Wheeler. The 10-episode series is based on Miller and Wheeler's upcoming illustrated young adult book, Cursed.
Cursed put a twist on the King Arthur legend, told through the eyes of the Excalibur-bestowing enchantress, the Lady of the Lake. The character is depicted here as a teenager, named Nimue, with a mysterious gift, and the coming-of-age series showcases her path to destiny. According to the plot description (via Variety), after her mother dies, Nimue joins a young mercenary named Arthur, on his quest to find the magician Merlin and deliver an ancient sword. The future Lady of the Lake become a symbol of courage and rebellion against the “terrifying Red Paladins, and their complicit King Uther."
In the latest news, a new official image from Cursed has arrived from Netflix, showing star Katherine Langford in her role as eventual Lady of the Lake, Nimue, which you can check out in full just below. Additionally, a major character for the series has been cast.

Bella Dayne has just joined the cast of Cured as a series regular, reports Deadline. She will play Red Spear, described as “a regal and ruthless Viking captain, with an eye for treasure…loyal to no one, the Red Spear and her crew raid villages along the coast of Britain, until a Fey stowaway boards her ship and entangles their fates.”
Dayne, a German actress, recently co-starred on the BBC’s Troy: Fall of a City in the crucial role of Helen of Troy. She’s also fielded TV runs on AMC/Channel 4’s Humans, FX’s Trust and Showtime/Sky Atlantic’s Guerilla, as well as guest spots on shows like Amazon’s The Man in the High Castle, CBS’s Person of Interest, ABC’s The Goldbergs and FX’s American Horror Story.
Katherine Langford will star in Cursed as Nimue, as Deadline reported back in September 2018. The role will serve as a quick Netflix homecoming for Langford, who, for two seasons, has starred on the streaming giant’s controversial teen drama, 13 Reasons Why as the posthumous-video-providing self-martyred teen, Hannah Baker. That series returns for Season 3, sans Langford. Yet, with momentum from 13 Reasons Why, Langford, an Aussie actress, banked movie appearances in director (and Arrowverse CW TV maestro,) Greg Berlanti’s recent rom-com, Love Simon, as well as the comedy-drama, The Misguided. While she had to see her role cut from the newly-crowned all-time box office topper, Avengers: Endgame, she will next be seen in director Rian Johnson's November-scheduled mystery movie, Knives Out.
The cast also consists of Devon Terrell (The Professor, Ophelia), Peter Mullan (Ozark, Westworld), Lily Newmark (Sex Education, Solo: A Star Wars Story), Gustaf Skarsgard (Vikings, Westworld).
Cursed Details
“I have always been entranced by the mythological Arthur story—and by Nimue, in particular,” said Frank Miller said in a statement after the book announcement, per CBR. “It can be interpreted in any number of ways — from a delightful children’s story, as in The Sword in the Stone, to a terrifying interpretation like Excalibur. This tale represents an incredible opportunity and an exciting challenge for me as an illustrator, and I’m excited to collaborate on the story with Thomas Wheeler. I inherited a collection of antique children’s books from my mother, and I’ve always wanted to have a crack at it myself. This project is a dream come true.”
Miller, who co-directed Sin City with Robert Rodriguez, also wrote the graphic novels Ronin, Daredevil: Born Again, and 300. He created the character Elektra for Marvel Comics’ Daredevil series, and the character Carrie Kelley for DC Comics. Miller wrote and directed The Spirit, which was based on the Will Eisner comic book series.
Wheeler co-wrote Lego: Ninjago Movie for Warner Brothers. He also is currently writing the sequel to the Shrek spinoff Puss in Boots. Michael Bay will direct his original screenplay Vostok for Paramount Pictures. He worked on the screenplay for August's Dora and the Lost City of Gold.
Cursed Release Date
Cursed doesn't have a specific release date yet, with Netflix only teasing a release for sometime in 2020.
However, Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing will release the Cursed graphic novel on October 1.
