BOTD: Wilson's Warbler
Tumblr media
Photo: John Sutton
"A small and spritely warbler that moves actively in bushes and trees, often flipping its longish tail about as it hops from branch to branch. Typically stays low in semi-open areas, avoiding the interior of dense forest. Although it nests from coast to coast across Canada, Wilson's Warbler is far more common farther west. In the East it is seen in small numbers, but in the Rockies and westward it is often the most abundant migrant in late spring."

Doing it in the low-effort art style because I finished drawing a chick, was about to post, then realised the proportions were horrible

Native near-threatened snail species. The last time the IUCN assessed the species was in 1996 however. Hoping the population hasn't declined further over the years.

BOTD: Field Sparrow
Tumblr media
Photo: Tom Murray
"The plaintive whistled song of the Field Sparrow often can be heard in brushy pastures, even on hot summer days when most birds are silent. Despite the name, this is not one of the sparrows inhabiting open fields of grass; it prefers brushy places, overgrown meadows with many bushes. It looks distinctively small and long-tailed, and its plain face gives it an innocent expression to match the sweetness of its song. In winter, Field Sparrows gather in small flocks."
