So I really enjoy the Purge franchise, it’s a bit of a guilty pleasure for me. It has a great balance between political satire, social commentary, and then just really campy horror/thriller vibes. The 2nd and 3rd movies are my favorite because they feature one of the poorest little meow meows of a middle aged divorceé I have ever encountered. He unfortunately finds himself to have a conscience and hates every second of it. He actively self-sabotages his Purge plans to save the lives of random misfortunate citizens who find themselves unarmed on the streets and he complains about it the entire time. I really can’t get enough of this guy. Anyways he’s played by Frank Grillo and somebody please tell me why it took over a YEAR to realize that he also plays Crossbones???!?!?!!? Aka a major antagonist in both Winter Soldier and Civil War??? I’m going insane. nothing will ever be the same

I haven't started my Halloween binge yet but I plan on it this weekend. So what all should I watch? I've got: Saw Franchise, Purge Franchise, Cult Classics (think heathers Beetlejuice death becomes her etc). What else should I add?

Summary: On Purge Night, the most dreaded night of the year, you find yourself among the unfortunate majority stuck facing the night alone, with the task of survival. With less than two hours until the small convenience store you work at closes and the commencement of the annual Purge, you realize you have a narrow window to make it home. Doubt creeps in, wondering if you’ll be able to escape the chaos before it begins.

Your night starts promisingly until four men enter the store, circling it meticulously as if searching among the shelves. It's the tallest of them who approaches you at the counter, a sinister glint in his eyes.

"Having a good night?" "As good as anyone could be having." "Are you purging tonight?" "It’s not really my thing." "And what is your thing?" "That’ll be seven dollars, sixty-nine cents." "Keep the change. Have a nice night."

As the store closes, you have twenty minutes to walk the five blocks to your apartment. On your way home, as you round the corner down an alley that offers a shortcut, you hear those same four words uttered once again: "Have a nice night," before everything goes dark.

The Purge: Election Year

Summary: U.S. presidential candidate Charlene "Charlie" Roan (Elizabeth Mitchell) promises to end the Purge if she is elected. The New Founding Fathers of America aren't too happy about that, and decide to change the rules for that year's Purge.

Second sequel that amps up the satire and shows keen awareness of issues that are somehow still current in 2024.

nothing shits me off as a person whose actually watched the Purge franchise than people who make Purge memes that are only funny in that they clearly haven't seen the Purge. "here's how Succession characters would survive Purge night" AKSJDNND come ON. if you'd actually watched the Purge you'd know it's whole damn (very basic) premise is about class!! that the Purge is designed so that lower middle to lower class people pick each other off as population control, while upper-middle to upper class fucks are either so wealthy they afford security so they're unaffected, OR, they're deemed political class and are exempt from both Purgeing and being Purged. You could make an argument that the Roys WOULD absolutely be among the rich who host private "Purge Games" in which they coerce poor people into battle royales for entertainment on the night. But all the Roys would survive because they're rich because that's literally what the Purge is about. it annoys the shit outta me that the Purge franchise is a really interesting (flawed, not perfect) work of speculative fiction on how the State and military industrial complex manufactures class oppression and dissent as a method of eugenics. But it's basically a meme to most people lmao.

Contemplating watching all the Saw movies and all the Purge movies (and show) for Halloween. I regularly never follow through all the way but am tempted.

SUMMARY: The goverment of United States of America sets up an experimental event, where a crowd of volunteers take a part of Purge, time period where all crime is legal in Staten Island. At first it seems the first people to ever participate commit only minor crimes, until things start to escalate into a bigger scale.

Ok but my biggest gripe w how tumblr talks Abt the purge movies as like, a vague fan of them, is it's all "oh they wasted the potential of the movies by making the purge all about murder i would steal things/commit tax fraud ect".

Bc if you watch the purge it becomes extremely clear that the purge itself is just a vehicle for social commentary. The first movie is about a group of white people going around a rich white neighborhood trying to murder a black homeless man because they deemed him as lesser, and specifically calling for the rich white family to give up said black homeless man to save themselves bc he's not "good people" like them.

Like, if you gave the movie a moment instead of trying to be The Smartest Funnyman in the Room you would at least understand why the movie is telling the purge the way that it is, and it's not bc ph violence and gore are the only interesting things to watch
