There's     already    a    crooked    white    line    carved   out  and  waiting  on  a  CD  case  that featured a band whose name she could    not make out on the front cover.    It   was  no  bigger than her pinky,   which was very small    — and finding it so invitingly discarded on the bathroom sink—        sealed and weighed in a baggie covered with little yellow smiley faces.    Innocuous enough.   She snatched it from the chipped ceramic without thinking about it.    Now she had something to do this afternoon.

But   now   she's   lifting   her   brow     — a rare display of genuine interest from an expression gone otherwise despondent, disinterested. 

     ❛     Oh.   I  mean —...   ❛     Lashes lower,   feathering  against  her  cheek.   She seems to be considering his concerns.   Dark eyes turning to the CD case,   the white line no larger than her pinky finger.   ❛   ... I know what to do with it.   ❛   There's some kind of decision, there.   Pale hand draws back her curtain of dark,    unbrushed hair so she can lean forward    — rolled up $5 bill tucked in one slant of a nostril.    A hard crank of her sinuses and she's feeling the fiery punch of something fucking crazy speeding up her nose and slamming right into the center of her goddamn brain. Whoa. Okay. Jesus.

She draws away with a gasp after cleaning off the CD case.    Hand   raises,   reflexively,   to   press   the   cold   back   to   her   nose    — sniffing up the remnants.   Her dark gaze, initially mystified, seems to settle within seconds.    Donna looks over to Kerry, briefly inquisitive before the inevitable effects of whatever she just snorted.

Kerry was busy guiding a rolled dollar bill up a line of coke when he gets asked this. He sniffs hard and squeezes bandaged fingers at the bridge of his nose. He blinks the burn away. Nice. It was clean shit. None of that parceled baby powder or laxative.

Only when it strikes him like a hammer does he cock his head up from the toilet tank and gives the other a once-over.

Somewhere between the party music (something trent reznor-like and throbbing) and the head rush does he reply and his words are enunciated through a drunken and scratchy cockney accent.
