Harminder Sahib or Darbar Sahib, a gurudwara located in Amritsar, Punjab, India. This is spiritually the most significant shrine in Sikhism.

For some people its just like any other Gurudwara, for some it’s just a tourist place, for some just a shrine, or its just a religious place, for some it’s a place to fill their stomach, for some its a place to stay, for some its place of full of life and people. But for me its not this, for me it’s different.

Being a child in Sikh family who belongs to Amritsar, the heart of Punjab, meaning of Darbar sahib is huge for me. It’s a place to refresh the soul, place where no one will judge you, where no one will ask you for your identity, you can sit anywhere in the Darbar Sahib and get inner peace. The premises of Darbar sahib consists of four doors in four directions which indicates that doors are open for everyone and everyone will be treated same way, no one is special or anything. This is the Highest place in Sikhism, where you’ll see everyone is praying, doing Path (reading holy scripts).

If someone asks me my favourite place? My answer is Darbar Sahib ‘cause it’s not just a place, it’s an emotion which can’t be described in words, you can only feel it. Whenever I visit the place, I get emotional. It seems like it’s the place where you can put your act of being which you do in front of the world and you can be original. The place is full of life, hope, patience, blessings, peace the inner peace and happiness. It’s not only a place of “Bhakti” but also a site of sacrifices which includes the blood of many Sikh’s and Shaheed’s, in which The Battle of Amritsar and operation Blue Star are included, in which more than thousand Sikhs became martyrs. According to Sikhism it’s a story of SABAR, SHUKAR, SIDAK, SIMARN DI MISAAL.

The Darbar sahib doesn’t only stand for religion but the Akaal Takht sahib (in front of Darbar sahib) stands for politics, in significance that religion can’t work without Politics and vice versa. It signifies the life of human, where we learn humanity, love, hope and equality. It’s the highest school of Sikhism.

1.  Sindh

Sindh is the story of dessert……no no no….it is the story of divine sunset of sea side…...aahaaa it is the story of heritages or the story of rich culture…… just dive into it, and feel the hospitality of this beautiful province. Sindhi topi, ajrak and rilly are the most famous handicrafts of this province.

Karachi is the most famous city of this province, that is assumed as the city of lights. Karachi is actually the backbone of Pakistan’s economy; this is the city who never sleep. This is the most populous city of Pakistan;

This city is still warm welcoming its visitors. Karachi is famous for the beautiful cost line and the beautiful tomb of Quaid-e-Azam, the founder of Pakistan.

2.  Punjab

Punjab is the most populous province of Pakistan; Punjabi is the mother language of this region while one can find many different accent of Punjabi here. Punjab is having another largest city of Pakistan, that is Lahore. Lahore also a culture rich city, filled with many colors of life and cultures. There are many other beautiful cities in this province, that having its own special characteristics.

3.  Khyber Pakhtun Khuwa(KPK)

KPK is the new name of Serhad, in this province mostly our Pashtun brothers live, who speaks Pashto. They are having some sort of different culture and norms. They are very friendly and very religious. They have different taste of food and ethics in this province. This province is the heavenly beautiful, and having a lot of healthful, amazing and uncovered beauties of nature like Nathyagali, Sawat, Naran & Kaghan and many, many more. 4.  Baluchistan

Baluchistan is the largest province by area, and considered as the most historic province of Pakistan. People are used to wear their traditional suites here and Balochi language is the mother language of this region.

This is the gate way to enter in Baluchistan, this region contains allot of forts and water falls. Quetta is the most famous city of this province and people specially come here for tours and trips.

The climate and the weather condition is most appealing part of this area summers are quite pleasant while the winters has a great snow fall.

Discovering golden triangle tour from Delhi Agra Jaipur India

It was more out of curiosity that we set out to explore the Golden Triangle cities because when they were first recommended a thought that crossed our minds was, "What's so golden about these cities?" So set out we did and were we in for one of the most pleasant and satisfying of journeys that any traveler can take on. Of course, the prospect of being in India, a country known for its splendor, thrills, hospitality and a fair share of misadventures (for the non-cautious) is in itself overwhelming. Add to that a dash of mystery, a pinch of adventure and a touch of exploration and you've signed up for a memorable holiday.

Our journey started at New Delhi, India's capital and the nucleus city of all Golden Triangle tours. It couldn't have been a better start or a greater precursor to the tour. Delhi is a comfortable city, especially for first-timers to India. For those of us who are wary of hitching an elephant ride from the airport to our hotels or running into snake charmers and fakirs, New Delhi is quite an eye-opener and an exact opposite of our pre-conceived notion of India.

The city's comfort with modernity is very obvious. From good transportation to clean roads to a population that appears at ease with foreigners, New Delhi is indeed worthy of being India's capital. But what's the most mesmerizing of its features is how easily the city blends the old and new. When you see buses and cars whizzing past the Red Fort or the Qutub Minar jutting right behind some modern high-rises, what strikes you is the beauty with which Delhi has preserved its glorious past while simultaneously accommodating the new. Neither the new facades and edifices nor the historical ramparts and ruins look out of place. And that's not all; the goldenness of Delhi gets transferred to its cuisine.

Out next stop was Agra where we realized how the hype about the Taj Mahal was understated. The Taj is surreally beautiful. Love and melancholy emanate from every stone, every carving and it's as if the monument speaks to you. You need a complete day to do justice to the Taj. Agra also plays host to a few more wonders such as the Fatehpur Sikri and the Red Fort which may not be among the seven wonders but are good rivals for the Taj.

A trip to Jaipur is what completes a typical Golden Triangle Tour and my, what a way to complete any journey! The sheer contrast between the landscapes and sights of Agra and Jaipur is itself breathtaking. The crowned heads of Rajasthan have left behind such wonders that you can't but envy them. Fortunately, its one place in India where you get to experience royalty just the way the royals did. From being serenaded to pampered to indulged, you'll only be the greediest person alive to ask for more! In addition to being just what a tourist wants Jaipur throws in a few extras such as wildlife sanctuaries, desert safaris and the works.

So it's safe to say we discovered the goldenness in the golden triangle cities. In fact, it was rather obvious from the day the journey started!

The Best Time to Travel to North India

The weather of India is diverse like its demographics. The option to holiday comes with a dish of variety in climate conditions in various parts of the country. Sometime there is a blanket of snow in Ladakh, while the lash of monsoon rains wet the northern zone between July-August. The best time to travel to North India depends on the destinations visited and the climate there. Tourists coming to North India experience three distinct seasons of summer, monsoon, and winter. In most parts of North India, especially the cities of Delhi NCR have extreme temperatures during winter and summer. The North-central region is even more hot and dry. For foreign tourists touring India, the best time to travel to North India is during winters. This is because it is pleasant for day trips. The humid summers are from March- October with mild spells of rain.

Delhi, Agra, Jaipur tour, the Golden Triangle is best made in October to February if you want to avoid the heat. Winters come as a blessing in mid-November to beginning of December. A number of artists have been inspired by the tradition of carpet making, but Parviz Tanavoli’s interest in this conventional method/imagery is more than cursory. Belonging to a society known for manufacturing rugs of high aesthetics, he collected carpets, and wrote several books on this practice including Kings, Heroes and Lovers; Lion Rugs and Persian Flatweaves. Tanavoli has also created works based on the vocabulary of carpet, screen prints from 1974, shown recently at Grosvenor Gallery London. A person familiar with Parviz Tanavoli’s art is aware that his inquiry into the Persian carpet is not a surface infatuation. Tanavoli’s entire corpus of work is rooted in the cultural expression of this region. He is known internationally for his sculptural work and referred to as the Father of Modern Iranian Sculpture. He has also produced paintings and scholarly works. One of his most celebrated sculptures consists of Persian word heech, which means ‘nothing’. He says, “the shape of this work, which is composed of three letters, fascinated me so much that for four or five years I worked on it, making many, many heeches.” At the Grosvenor Gallery, Tanavoli’s screen prints, intended as layouts for rugs and tapestries woven in Iran, were on display from April 26 to May 8. Though all these prints are almost 47 years old, they do not appear outdated just as traditional carpets do not date easily and sometimes acquire more meaning, significance and worth with the passage of time – not as antique pieces, but as part of everyday existence. A carpet by its essence, is not to be used as a museum exhibit, but handled as an essential possession of the household – to sit, step, recline and sleep on. It is only for outsiders that these rugs are exotic pieces, purchased and preserved like precious items; because to a traveller, a cultural tourist, a European connoisseur – who is unable to crouch, or comfortably sit cross-legged, and eat and hold conversation – these rugs have more decorative importance than any practical value. On the other hand, Parviz Tanavoli, born in 1937 in Tehran, investigates the practice from an insider’s position. With this privilege, he is able to deviate from the standard sensibility of a carpet. His prints recall the language of pop art, since these rugs, in a sense, are ‘popular art’ of the Near East and Central Asia. Tanavoli, admirably, has not followed the typical colour scheme, traditional motifs and conventional content. Employing a chromatic order that ranges from bright blues, greens, scarlet, yellows, vibrant turquoises, pinks, peaches and greys to stark black, has assembled a new narrative. Eventually, they were fabricated by tribal weavers, all interpreting original design differently and supplying their unique responses. Talking about this and his travel in the region from early ’60s to early ’70s, Tanavoli recalls: “I noticed that they weave their rugs by looking at another rug, and do not use cartoons like city weavers. His visuals are ingrained in the cultural history of Persia, but his approach is that of a modern, fearless, yet reverent painter. Akin to traditional mode of weaving stories in patterns, he also infuses a narrative in his art, a narrative that deals with language, love, and freedom. An important – and readable ‘picture’ in his ‘carpet-prints’ (or car-prints) is of the nightingale. Either caged in a block of buildings, or with a locked beak. This state of the bird signifies restrictions (one recognises the prophetic power of Parviz Tanavoli here. He was envisaging a scenario of repression and curbs on speech five years before it was witnessed after/with the 1979 Revolution in Iran. The nightingale also announces the presence of love, because in historic Persian (and Urdu) poetry, it is associated with passion, love songs and longing. Besides drawing the bird in profile, Tanavoli writes its Farsi name, bulbul. In another print, a poet – stylised to an unbelievable height – is holding the fowl. Another work, Oh, Nightingale, is filled with a composite figure, partly a human form with feet and legs, and partially modulated head of the bird, with windows and locks. Farhad Squeezing Lemon. For Tanavoli, the poet and the bird are companions, as witnessed in Poet & Bird, with its variation of human-type figurine holding a simplified version of birds. The artist recounts: “The poet… was the freest of all humankind. I consider him to be like birds in the sky, belonging everywhere”. His Last Poet of Iran looks like a document, of poet’s multiple variations, without names/identities. A print from the same series, Disciples of Sheikh San’an, with its architectural structures – and the caged bird – refers to a story from The Conference of Birds, the poem penned by Faridoddin Attar in the twelfth century. Regardless of the detail of his subject, characters, references, it is his way of transforming a living being and objects in delightful patterns that connects him to the tradition of carpet weaving – as well as to the convention of modern art. Mostly evident in his lion series (Lion and Sword, 2008; and Lion and Sun 2010), in which the ferocious animal (a symbol of political power, the king) is rendered like a simplified toy. In their colour, shapes and arrangement, Tanavoli’s people, birds, things, are at once traditional and modern. The first question that might have popped in your mind after hearing the name of Jilani Park is why do authorities only opt for this park when it comes to organising major events in Lahore? Well, there are a couple of factors, and we will elaborate on them by sharing the historical importance of this park.  Jilani Park is one of the best family attractions in Lahore. The park features an artificial lake, a bird’s sanctuary, and is known to host various floral exhibitions around the year. Situated on Jail Road, the park spans over an area of 88 acre and is an important page in the books of history.  Speaking of which, the modern history of Jilani Park starts from 3rd October 1985. Jilani Park was originally named Race Course Park and was previously exclusively used to host Polo, but after it was renamed, the park was opened to the general public as well.  Enjoying a pristine location near the heart of Lahore, the park is now among the most frequented hotspots for family events and tourists. JASHAN-E-BAHARAN, LAHORE 2020 

Date of Jashan-e-Baharan, Lahore: 2nd March 2020 Venue of Jashan-e-Baharan, Lahore: Jillani Park, Lahore Entry Ticket Jashan-e-Baharan: Free Entry  The spring season, especially in this region of Pakistan, is coupled with a sense of rejuvenation when the city of gardens returns to its original glory with green spaces coming alive and parks once again being populated with people after a long and cold winter. Like the rest of Pakistan, Lahoris aren’t any different when it comes to commencing spring with warmth, colours, music, food, and of course, love.  The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA), Lahore, announced on 20th February 2020 that the spring celebrations in the city will kick off with a Dog Show as part of Jashan-e-Baharan from 29th February 2020. However, due to unforeseen weather conditions, the official inauguration of the event couldn’t take place, and it is now scheduled to commence from 2nd March 2020.  Revealing the attractions at the event, the Marketing Director of PHA Dr Rabia Riasat said that Jilani Park festival would host more than 15 colourful and fun-filled activities, and the festival itself will continue till Pakistan Day on 23rd March 2020. Assuring the safety and security of attendees, the marketing director added, “PHA has made foolproof security arrangements for this free annual festival in Lahore”.  Commenting on the prominence of this annual festival, Chairman PHA Engineer Yasir Gillani said, “The annual festival is a gift for citizens of Lahore and adjoining areas”.  As per details revealed by the officials, the surroundings of the Canal Road will be decorated with colourful lights to engage and attract attendees and announce the advent of the new season. According to the schedule issued by the PHA, the event will commence in Jilani Park but will be followed by several events across the city. The spring festival in Lahore generally spans over two weeks and is visited by a great number of people every year. The event offers a combination of animal shows, flower exhibitions, performances from local bands, and several other attractions for attendees.  Previously, the spring festival in Lahore comprised a colourful opening ceremony that featured live performances of around 16 army music bands, folk dancers from Punjab, an exhibition of the brass band, fireworks, acrobatics, several stalls of artisans, face painting, and a food court with desi flavours.  The 2020 edition of Jashan-e-Baharan in Jilani Park promises a complete package of fun for children, teenagers, and adults. HOW TO GET TO JASHAN-E-BAHARAN IN LAHORE?

Jashan-e-Baharan Festival features several stalls of desi food! We have mentioned it quite a few times in this blog, but we’ll repeat it again for good measure. The 2020 edition of Jashan-e-Baharan in Lahore will take place in Jilani Park or locally known as Race Course Park. Reaching this place from any part of the city is quite easy. If you’re travelling by road, it takes around 30-minutes to reach the park from Paragon City. On the other hand, if you are coming from another city by air, it will only take a 40-minute drive from Allama Iqbal International Airport to reach the park. 

LATEST UPDATES ON JASHAN-E-BAHARAN IN LAHORE

On 2nd March 2020, the Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Ahmed Khan Buzdar along with several officials including Minister Housing Mian Mehmood Ur Rasheed and Chairman PHA Yasir Gilani have successfully carried out the opening ceremony of the spring festival in Lahore. During the ceremony, the CM Punjab addressed the crowd and said, “I, wholeheartedly welcome all the attendees to this festival and I would like to congratulate the team of PHA for organizing such an event”. The speech was followed by several other rituals including the live performance of famous Pakistani artist, Abrar Ul Haq.
