Grozzt in the Host encampment

The Serrated Knives worked their way through the collection of various clans in camps that were stages when a voice rang out.

“SHEZZQ, you split tongued, rock piling, elf ear’d, mud wallower.” stepping out of a group of bear skin tents came one of the tallest goblin in the entire host.

“Nrekt, youz-alf orc mutt rider, is that a new scratch or duz the your face get uglier with each moon turning?” Shezzq stood face to face, more like face to neck as Nrekt didnt meet his gaze.

“Where did that small little little grub go, I sawd ‘em stillz smellz ‘em thou!” Nrekt howlered over the Serrated Knives Champion’s head. Shezzq replied with a sharp shove and recieved a barking laugh.

“Too many moons old friend, the Clan of Blind Wolf has missed the Serrated Knives. Come. Yous will join with us.” Nrekt stepping back to lift the flap to his camp.

“The Day of Cold Dying was we seen each other. And we will for the Host share your tents and fires. We have many tales to share.” Shezzq added before leading his hyrd in.

The Blind Wolf Clan was an outrider clan. They rode fierce war wolves they bred and trained for generations. Those fearsome mounts where not in the camp, for they were too dangerous and wild to be allowed at the Gathering of the Host. They instead had smaller hounds as mounts, a hardy bred of dogs taken from raids on human settlements over the years have made them into large and dangerous than their lost relatives in their old settlements, but almost docile compared to their wolves. Almost.

All the Goblin Clans are under pain of eradication if blood is drawn here. Grozzt was newly risen to the Hyrd when the Law was broken last, the Serrated Knives had lead the attack against them and laid many to blade, they had gained 12 new brood mothers for leading the attack but many in the clan did not think it was worth the lose of a 3rd of their Hyrd in the process, Shezzq had become the champion after he challenged the old for leadership because of what was seen as his failure to blunt the cost.

“These old muttz still serving yourz?” Grozzt asked one of the newly risen riders.

“Theyz doggrs no good for much else, but they still respond well to commandz and they rarely bitez anymore.” the young goblin said small scars across his arms and hands spoke to the experience he had with his clan’s mounts. The younger goblin looked down once he saw the marking on Grozzt’s chest showing him to be a deadly warrior in his clan and not one to be challenged by one so...lesser. “Nrekt likes howz they make use look riding inz to the host, his ole gray,” gesturing to a sleeping dog of impressive girth,” makes Nrekt’s necklaz sing like they was still in the humies own heads.”

Grozzt looked the rider up and down and his eyes settled on the knife on his belt. quick as snake before the young rider knew what was happening Grozzt snatched it away. 

“Heyz that is my Knifz, my first killz trophies.” he shreiked.

But Grozzt inspected the handle ridging, “Thiz Trondish Horn?” his tone showed genuine awe.

“Yez, it an Impy’s cart pullr, got’em right in the neck.” he gestured with his hand to a nearby dog’s neck to show how he did it.

“The Impy didnt lobz your ‘ead off for killing his pullr on’em?” 

The young rider was smilling now, “Nawz, he was riding hard when we spotz him, he didnt see us until we was almost on top of him, He just have a lil spear to chuck atz me but I was quicker.”

“Impies riding hard? From whatz?”

Waznt us to startz, but Sliek made sure he never tellz anyonez.”

While making my Self-Isolation Away From Home bag (we need to make a name for that...), I realized that we only own two can openers in the house, and one is perpetually lost (read: stashed somewhere because Dad kept putting in the wrong spot and I got petty and promptly forgot where it was), so I wouldn't be able to pack one. That was a problem, as about half my canned food was no-pullring type.

So, being the little weirdo I am, I went online and ordered a 10 pack of those old P-38 survival can openers for a total of ~$7. You know, the one that you always see listed/shown in books as being in the 'survival tin' or 'survival can?' I've never actually owned one, and though I've seen a few they were in WW2 antique stores and were not fit for use.

They arrived yesterday I decided to pop open my last can of mandarin oranges in my pantry because YAY! Yummy fruits as well as TESTING NEW GEAR OUTSIDE OF THE SITUATION YOU WOULD LIKELY NEED TO USE IT.

My offical ruling is that these are dope. SUPER easy to use, popping it through the lid wasn't nearly as difficult as I thought it would be. Simple, light, easy to use, got a little hole at the bottom so you can loop it onto a keychain or a beaded chain. I've already put one in my university backpack (I tend to just grab whatever for lunch so canned food is always a possiblity), one in my Iso Away From Home kit, and one on my keys. They're cool! :D
