god i wish i wouldn't have to explain the intricacies of the neopets economy to you guys to give the full context for this but. the new neopets team that took over from jumpstart pledged that they were going to curb the inflation of rare items, which is great because a lot of rare items are worth literally hundreds of millions of neopoints, they are unbuyable unless you've been playing actively for 20 years. they did this earlier with a site festival that included random loot boxes, some of which had Unbelievably Fucking Rare And Precious items worth 200 million neopoints apiece.

well.

today they have gone a step further. by releasing this year's trick-or-treat bags. and having the trick-or-treat bags be stuffed to the brim with unbelievably fucking rare stamps, weapons, paint brushes, defense magic, and other unbuyables. (all prohibitively expensive and in-high-demand types of items.)

jellyneo, the premier neopets website, has recorded prices of some items plummeting from 2,000,000 neopoints to 4,000 neopoints IN THE LAST THREE HOURS. this is when most people haven't even heard about the event or OPENED THEIR BAGS YET.

and of course. cherry on top. 20-year-old account holders are crytyping on the site events neoboard about how mean and cruel it is to make rare stamps part of the prize pool, because their entire identity hinges on being part of the neopian bourgeoisie, and they are having MELTDOWNS over their assets being devalued until they're part of the lowly proletariat.

he's so??? nice??? and?? awkward??? 😭 That was NOT how I was expecting the first meeting to be but I'm not complaining at all!! In terms of manner-of-speech, he reminds me of Zhongli but unlike him, he possesses like -10000000 emotional intelligence. That scene of him constantly apologizing to Navia because he doesn't know what else to say or do is now stuck in my head. I'm convinced he'd be the most frustrating male yandere in genshin ever — yes, you can step down now Alhaitham.

Because, not only does he seem to genuinely not understand humans, but also that he's terrible at expressing his own emotions. It'll be so difficult to communicate with him in matters that involve emotions that you'd much rather go to prison (I know I'd just end up crying from sheer frustration). Yes no grandpa, making it rain actually doesn't help. Putting that aside, whew that archon quest...

i can't wait for his sad backstory & probably-very-important role in the main story & for the other characters to start appreciating him more. i'm a little delusional BUT IT WILL PROBABLY HAPPEN TO SOME EXTENT

despite aventurine seeming just as sketchy as the other characters, i think he's a deliberate red herring (compared to: acheron, who's initially presented as trustworthy but is later revealed to be not what she seems. black swan, who offers to help the astral express crew, but doesn't tell them that she made a deal with aventurine involving them. firefly, who deliberately hides her past from trailblazer and repeatedly says she's NOT a stowaway... although that one wasn't hard to see through.)

aventurine has been surprisingly upfront with us. i'm sure he will still deceive us at one point, but in contrast to the aforementioned examples, i think he'll do it for the greater good of penacony. or at least... some kind of greater good? okay definitely getting delusional here since he's not very interested in heroics. but WE WILL SEE

usually i am a grown adult with a full time job and the understanding that fucking up my sleep schedule will make the 10hr shift i have to wake up for 8 hours from now miserable. but on incredibly rare occasions, i allow myself to be the 14 year old i once was, ignoring my common sense because i know i can function just fine on very little sleep and the story im reading is way too compelling to stop now.

work is so weird i was just on a sales call (as the customer) with some people who had emailed me ahead of time like "here is some documentation about our product if you want to know more about it :)" and i was like "thank you, i will review this before the demo :)" because like, that sounds great actually? i'm having a demo because i want to know more about your product...reading up on it first sounds like a helpful thing for me to do to get the most out of the demo as possible so i can come prepared with questions and so forth. so i read the documentation and asked questions and they were super impressed because i'm the only person who has ever read the documentation before a demo (???) and i was like. why would anyone not jump on this. i thought it was awesome they sent me prereading! it helped so much. people get impressed with me at work but it's always for the STUPIDEST shit that it seems like everyone should be doing. i'm just helping myself out!!! i'm making my own job easier. incredible.
