Puff and Petals. Let’s just say this wasn’t my first choice for dinner tonight, but Old Lady Gang was closed for remodeling. Mind you I had a reservation for OLG, but that is another story.

Puff and Petals is a small “Tapas” restaurant on Edgewood by K. Michelle. First thought, this is cute for my girlfriends and I. Second thought, this pink curtain is getting on my nerves.

When I was told the whole place was pink, I thought of pepto bismol. It’s not so much of pepto bismol theme, but light pinks and bedazzled everything. I almost feel like a teenager was decorating their room. I can tell that she didn’t get a restaurant consultant on the decorum or even the location.

One thing that bugged the shit out of me was the curtains she had hanging from the ceiling. At night, they might be necessary to open them up, and close yourself off to the next party. But I doubt the sheer pink curtain is really going to give your party privacy.

Everyone knows I love a good cocktail. Like always, I either ask the bartender or the waiter which are their favorites. I got an Endless Summer. It was an awesome lemonade. That’s it. It tasted just like lemonade with muddled strawberries. To make sure I wasn’t just being an ass, I tried my son’s pink lemonade. Well we had the same drink. Well I had fancy decorations on mine. The table next to me had some interesting looking drinks. They had all the flare but I don’t know if they had the bite. As I say this, note I drink. You can’t give me a juice filled glass with a teaspoon of liquor and call it a cocktail. I call that juice. Maybe adult juice, but still juice. Would I go back and try the fancier drinks, I doubt it.

I don’t have a complaint about the food at all. Ok I have one. The plating for the lamb chops were overbearing. It was too big. I understand trying to be creative but the wheel barrel was just big and clunky.

Oh yeah, the little piece of corn bread they gave me was a tragedy. It has the taste between hot water corn bread and corn bread. The texture was that of bread pudding. It looked as though it didn’t finish baking so they grilled it on both sides. Yet it was still gooey on the inside.

The mac and cheese was good. I could tell they used a smoked gouda. It had a crunch on the top and stringy cheese in the center. The plating for this was ok too. But they only gave me one fork with my mac and cheese and lamb chops. No knife. Just on fork.

My son had their tacos. He liked them. They came in a tray of 3 little flour tortillas. I tried the meat. Not bad. Different, but not bad.

What struck me odd was the house rules. If they are trying to make this a classy joint, they need to drop them. The house rules on the back of the menu comes off crass. You can’t be too classy/upscale when you must go through the kitchen to go to the bathroom. Then a cook or chef came from the main entrance with asparagus in her had. I am going to post the house rules for you all to see. But what I really didn’t like about the house rules, is the fact that they automatically add 18% tip. I tip based on service not food. My service was lack luster honestly. I think I made the young lady nervous.

I honestly believe Puff and Pearls owner just has a fan base that are raving about this place. It has a lot of growing to do. I can’t see adults with some business about themselves hanging out there. Not like they could with the seating time limit. But I digress. I don’t see myself going back. The menu didn’t peak my curiosity enough to want to return. The service wasn’t welcoming, and my alcoholic beverage tasted like juice. I’ll try anything once. Well that was my once.
