This is the take IMO.

I don’t do booktok for the reasons OP stated as well and I don’t condone the direct commenting on Felicia’s posts that’s currently happening, but a lot of the issues Felicia was trying to pull into this are general pro sports/public figure issues that are happening with or without booktok AND through other forms of fandom (hello pubchair men speculating how big players’ dicks are on their officially sponsored podcast or typical cisman fans commenting horrible things on WAG posts when their husband is caught cheating or blows a play in a big game). To publicly pin this on booktok and a SPECIFIC booktok creator who had started to earn money or other forms of social capital via this content with the team’s blessing was not the appropriate way to handle this because it actively incentivized the team to drop her quietly with no notice instead of a mutual parting of ways with respect and understanding on all sides.

Frankly, the people cheering this on are basically joining the Leopards who Eat People’s Faces Party at this point. If you post on tumblr or Twitter in the fandom circles even just adjacent to booktok, you are absolutely next for this even if you think your content isn’t sexual or disrespectful. Guarantee other influencer-adjacent WAGs are actively name searching content about their husbands to get mad about so they can pull a similar move for the praise and clout they’re seeing Felicia get rn. This doesn’t make them attention hungry or bad people, it just makes them smart internet users! But we can’t encourage this type of fourth wall breaking on any side because it’s only going to hurt everybody in the long run because of the power dynamic at play. Teams are going to see this go down and probably start tempering their content out of reactive fear while also screening more potential non-cis man employees to see if there’s any chance they’ve ever set foot in a fandom space that might upset a WAG.

I’m genuinely not here to drag anybody because I think all the feelings the people actually involved have expressed have been genuine, but I don’t think it’s unfair to say everybody here has also acted in ways that aren’t productive to what they actually want to see as the end product of their behavior.

Tl;dr I agree with OP here and think we all need to be more proactive about maintaining the fourth wall as much as possible and that has to include circumstances where we might agree with the behavior of someone breaking it even from the other direction. The WAGS are not our friends or our queens, they have power over us and we need to protect ourselves and each other before engaging with them directly in any way.
