Puppykeeper 2.2 Edition (Part One)

(Any scene I don't mention just assume largely the same thing happens as in canon, with the added tidbit of Sonetto and Schnieder being here)

For the sake of my sanity this will be part one, a compliation of major scene changes in this au.

Main changes being caused by - Schneider and Sonetto in Brazil, Urd and Vertin also being present in Brazil.

(2.1 I'll do at a later date I think)

Scene One- Meeting Urd, Skuld and White Rum

Generally the same story beats with sonetto getting blown off the ship and going into a coma.

Urd, Skuld and White Rum meet them and look after Sonetto. This is the first time Vertin and Schnieder properly meet here.

While Urd is preparing medication in another room while Sonetto is sleeping, she apologises to her for all the pain shes gone through, it should have been her that day becoming the Timekeeper. Everything thats happened after is Vertin's fault, all of Sonetto's suffering was her fault.

Schnieder is confused, asks who Vertin is; at this point Sonetto might have indulged Schnieder what happened that day, so Schnieder puts the pieces together but Skuld tells her to never say a thing.

Schnieder is really good at keeping secrets:

"Miss governor, surely the old woman would love to meet you again, why play this game of cat and mouse?"

"It's hard, but we have our reasons to act as we do, as you are doing right now"

"Fine."

"Thank you for everything"

"Mhm?"

"Thank you for being there for her when I wasn't. Being the person I could never be for her. Please keep looking out for her, promise me that"

Scene Two - Urd and Skuld are captured by the Brotherhood

How is Skuld and Urd captured? Largely the same, with added angst that its Vertin choosing to scarfice her life for Sonetto, so both Urd and Skuld are captured by the Apostles Brotherhood.

"Miss Schnieder, may we met under better conditions, please remember our promise."

"... Only if you keep yours Misss governor"

More or less events are the same, but Schnieder and Sonetto are there. Tense since Schnieder was talking to Skuld and Urd, clearly they said something to her but Schnieder is choosing not to say anything. Nala already went with White Rum on that convo so she didnt hear anything either.

Cue the scene in Heartfelt home and with Lopera, Schnieder and Sonetto are quick to defend Nala's actions to Lopera.

The heart to heart scene between lopera and nala happens, and Schnieder is here for it. Nala and Schnieder find common ground at the general distaste for being used for others gains at the expense of their own, and all of them bond over their shared families and stuff.

Meanwhile Sonetto discovers the chair and the notes, both signed by Urd and Skuld, noticing that Skuld's writing was similar in tone and general presentation (drawing little animals in the margins, oh and this weird bread looking orange dog as well pops up alot)

Mariana speaks about how the duo came to the home as caregivers, Skuld in particular as a journalist and photographer mostly.

Cue the massarce at the Zeno base, Lilya's capture, everything the same but the squad Igor gets includes some high ranking Foundation personnel, also orphans of Igor who acted as middle ground between zeno and the foundation. One of them goes alongside Ptolemy to capture Nala.||

Scene Three - Nala and Ptolemy Scene

The whole scene with Ptolemy because no im not over it and never will be.

Schnieder, Nala and Sonetto (White Rum is somehow able to sleep through this entire scene) are approached by Ptolmey and Foundation/ Zeno personnel. Instead of immediately attacking, Ptolmey asks to escort them back to the zeno base, Igor has no intentions to harm Nala but would rather "clear up" things with her, and get the proper paperwork down.

This works for a very short time (i mean look at him, Ptolmey is one blink away from committing another war crime) and Schnieder the mafia boss she was catches on. They attempt to run but both outnumbered are quickly cornered in one area. While Schnieder is powerful and has a level of arcanum prowess/ her guns, she is the first tackled and captured by Zeno officers. Leaving Sonetto and Nala. Note Sonetto is disarmed in the scuffle.

Ptolmey fine now u can have your moment: the whole spigel of "i only meed one of you technically, but rather than finish you off i would rather made it a spectacle".

Whips out the toy robot and orders Nala to kill Sonetto. Sonetto even if shes strong doesn't last long with Nala, maybe slightly longer than Vertin due to natural physical strength, but shes very much disadvantaged as mainly a spell caster. Shes more used to end fights with her glasfender than physical attacks. So Ptolemy proceeds to force Schnieder into giving Sonetto one of her guns (and "forced" i mean very strongly kicked in the gut until she dropped it yippee)

And yeah this is the parallel to the Book 2 puppykeeper oranges scene yippee.

In all honesty the narration and visuals in game made it look like Nala scratched Vertin enough for her to bleed, but only the stranguling is mentioned. So here the fight is bloodier because Sonetto doesn't fall as easily. A real cat and dog fight.

Sonetto in the midst of everything sees the Foundation personnel and questions them, why are they doing this?

Order before Opinion, and some comment about sometimes when a dog is unable to do their job, becomes old, becomes wild, the only right thing to do is put it down.

This comment distracts Sonetto enough for Nala to push her to the ground and strangle her, cue to the scene with Vertin, the "i dont want to end up like my sister" with Sonetto pleading for Nala to stop, genuine panic setting in.

Schnieder is in a more precarious position, being hit multiple times after struggling has a gun pointed at her.

Ptolmey: "one of you is dying or else the little bitch is dying. Kimberely, obey your master"

White Rum (yeah im pulling a hail mary, shes already there in canon, might as well use her since shes sleeping the whole time) wakes up to the entire scuffle, Schnieder had been carrying her until she got tackled, so WR was sitting in the glass hidden until she woke up. Seeing the shitshow realising the soldier hadn't noticed her, gets close to where Schnieder was being restrained and prepares to attack the moment she gets an opening.

Sonetto grabs Schnieder's gun and very reluctantly points it at Nala, sees White Rum in position. And prepares to fire.

At the last moment she pulls the trigger at Ptolmey, as white rum attacks the solider restraining Schnieder before anyone could shoot.

Sonetto ended up firing twice, one hitting the toy and the another in Ptolmey's shoulder.

Cue the rest of the scene as in canon with Sonetto and Schnieder there.

End of Part One (general note here, Ive been getting into writing short scenes, so maybe Puppykeeper might see one shot scenes written, but not a full fic, I don't have the brain capacity to rewrite everything lmao)

Besides, Ptolemy never pretends to understand where Alexander goes when he needs to be alone. That's for Hephaestion to know, he supposes. "If he's not back in ten minutes, let's send the search party, eh?"

I only post f1 on here, but this show has been on my mind since this week. I see it everything before going to sleep and end up crying every time because of the overflowing love this whole scene depicts. It is so gentle and for the first time, I think, historians have openly referred to Hephaestion as Alexander's lover. That is something so precious to me. The love between them is so pure that I just cry thinking about it.

Also, Ptolmey cockblocking them will never not be funny. He was line done with their shit and could not just see them kissing AGAIN 😂.

The word "quran" in the text itself is not a meaningless proper name as you make it out to be. Hence, what I have is an honorable reading/"quran" not Quran.

Seeking verification is good advice and I always appreciate a good advice. Indeed, I sought verification of 48:24 by looking at the meaning of the word "makkat" in classic Arabic dictionaries.

With further verification against the context, the clear classic Arabic common sense meaning is found to fit perfectly in the context of 48:24.

With more verification, one finds that the early attested manuscripts of the great reading do not have any "tashkeel" and hence "makkat" doesn't have a "fat-ha" and this was added much later.

With even more verification, one finds that the proper name Makkat is NEVER found in ANY "pre-quranic" inscriptions.

So I verified four different ways before making conclusions and all my verification clearly led to the conclusion that "makkat" is not a "pre-quranic" proper name.

On the other hand, you didn't verify any of those things and you simply blindly accept the over 200 years after the fact "tashkeel". You didn't even bother to make a small effort to look at classical Arabic dictionaries otherwise you would have known which ones I used. You gave me an excellent advice, now you ought to heed it.

Makkat or "makkat"

most orientlaists agree that it was embedded in the name "Macoroba" and Diodorus Siculus reports an importnat shrine in the same area as Makka.

All sides of the debate on the historicity of Makkat agree that the name Makkat doesn't occur in any "pre-quranic" inscriptions. Those promoting the historicity of Makkat are forced to bring the ONLY ONE reference by Ptolmey to an insignificant town by the name of Macoraba for the simple reason that they know very well that there is NO reference to Makkat. Another fact is that Diodorus Siculus NEVER mentions Makkat and he simply speaks of a Temple in central Arabia, which could be anywhere in thousands of square kilometers and in any of the many confirmed "pre-quranic" towns in Arabia. Surely, if Orientalists or anyone else had ANY archeological reference to a place named Makkat prior to the revelation of the great reading they would have brought it by now and would have ended this discussion.

According to classical Arabic dictionaries, the word "makkat" mainly means "destruction/wearing down", among other meanings.

Here is a translation of 48:24 using Classical Arabic dictionaries and the context of war from the verses to translate the word "makat":

48:24. And it is He Who has restrained their hands from you and your hands from them in the midst of destruction/wearing down after that He gave you the victory over them. And Allah sees well all that ye do.

I used Yusuf Ali's translation but while he left "makat" un-translated I didn't. As you can see the clear classical Arabic meaning fits in the context of the military standoff in verse 48:24.

based on the context from the great reading/"quran", linguistic evidence from Arabic dictionaries, and the lack of evidence supporting that there was a "pre-quranic" town by the name of Makkat, the only logical unbiased conclusion is that "makkat" is simply a mundane common noun like thousands of others in the great reading/"quran".

2.2 discussion on Zeno (1.9 spoilers ahead)

Alright.

Igor or Admiral Igor is the father to Moldir, Ptolemy (the eyepatch guy) and Lopera. Im assuming Lopera is adopted unlike thr other two.

Igor was the one to confirm the death of Arcana which we can now fully say was false, in some shape or form she is alive.

Igor has chosen to join Manus or more specifically Sophia/ Preacher. It seems Zeno had fought a large battle that led to the first Storm, losing countless members. His convo with Lilya shows his hesitation towards the Manus and Foundation, mostly the Foundation just using them as cannon fodder with no real progress and only sees siding with Manus as the option to save lives (mind you there is reluctancy and I am not entirely sure of his motives here)

He sees the Foundation and the Manus as two sides of the same coin (fucking called it nice).

Stephen somehow ended up with Anjo's seal/ the toy robot but didn't realise it was the seal, once the Foundation got to the motel the robot was found and given to Igor at some point, then later to Ptolmey to attempt to get Anjo.

Its clear Urd has some greater purpose for the Manus, Igor seems to have history with Urd but it seems something is up with her.

Currently Igor, Moldir and Ptolemy with some Zeno officers have joined with the Manus going to the South.

So back in the very early days, we only had the original series Enterprise. People had to guess at much of the entire rest of the Trek universe, and one of the biggest things to come out was Franz Joseph's licenced Star Trek Technical Manual in 1975, which ended up kicking off a lot of fanworks and being the basis for a lot of things going on, including assets that made it into the movies. He poisted a Starfleet currently made up of Enterprise-style cruisers, smaller destroyers and scouts, a larger dreadnought, and also the Class I Transport/Tug, the Ptolemy class.

In his idea, these were the most common ships, and basically the backbone of the Federation. It was a locomotive model: the ship at the front contained the basic warp drive and ship infrastructure, and then pretty much any kind of ship could be made by attaching standard containers to it, big cylinders about ten decks high. If you wanted a starliner, then a big train of cylinders with windows and luxury quarters. A freighter, big cargo bays. A tanker... big tanks. Etc. Or combination trains of them. He imagined a Federation held together by these trains running around.

If I recall correctly, the plans for this one actually made it onto background displays in TMP. And they've been used in beta canon books and things since too.

They were quite a popular concept, but we never saw those properly, though, and later on when we did see freighters in TNG and on, they tended to be bricks where you could hang cargo containers off the side.

To be honest, I think not doing trains was more the limits of FX at the time. People liked the idea, it's just much more annoying to do when you're doing bluescreen model compositing. So for a long time it was bricks, but then as soon as we went to CGI-dominant with Enterprise, the cargo ships in that series were trains.

Choo choo.

After that, less Trek for a while, and then when Picard season 1 came out, we got the Wallenbergs, which were heavily inspired by the original Ptolmeys.

Even moreso in the original concept art.

Aside from that, we've seen occasional ships that are ostensibly designed to take cargo containers, such as the La Sirena. One can only imagine that the Federation has standardised towed cargo container sizes and umbilicals in the same way that in the 20th and 21st century we standardised cargo containers so heavily, and I would imagine with the Federation being such a behemoth that those standards would have spread far beyond its borders.

Bonus mentions: The Drookmani ships from lower decks, which are cabs with a bunch of containers behind:

And the Hiawatha from Disco, which aren't trains but have the same 'mass-produce a basic ship with warp drive framework and then plug on compartments with the actual purpose of the ship' as the Ptolmey. The one we saw in Disco is a medical ship but it's clearly meant to be a hyper-versatile design.

Hello, Love your work! I've long believed that the realm of transport and logistics in the Star Trek universe is a potential treasure trove of content often ignored. PIC S1 almost bucked the trend with the La Sirena "trailer hitch" and the Sampson/Wallenberg Class alluding to #spacetrains. Are you aware of any Fanart or Fiction exploring #spacecontainers #spacetrains?

I love when people enjoy specific aspects of the worldbuilding in Trek! There is so much to dive into, and logistics and transportation is definitely a big area that holds a tonne of potential!

Off the top of my head, though, I can't think of any art or fic relating to spacetrains specifically, not in a Trek context. There's a tiny bit of concept art which you may have seen before, of La Sirena delivering cargo before picking up Picard, which was ultimately dropped from season 1:

But I don't recall ever seeing anything more detailed. As for the Wallenberg, the only things I have there are the Eagle Moss booklet cover and very grainy footage from just before the Attack on Mars.

So, I'm throwing this one to the wider tumblr Trekkie community! Does anyone know of any art including Trek-trains? Particularly space trains? Or stories that deal with cargo and towing cargo in particular?

Seven having to figure out the byzantine controls of Sirena's hitch system to take on some particularly heavy cargo? How the previous owner was recruited to aid the Romulan Rescue effort and that's why the hitch was added to the ship? Maybe some exciting spacetrain-heists?

Because I'd definitely love to see/read those myself 😁

Although they were few, Bartimaeus could still recall the handful of memories of when Ptolemy had been relaxed. Truly relaxed. And those times had not been when he had been nose-deep in scroll dust. Rather it had been when he had been away from all that.

Out in the open whether on the banks of The Nile or atop a building, somewhere away from Ptolemy’s studies... Where he would sit as he chewed dates and honey, listening with wide eyes alight with a childlike wonder as Bartimaeus told him many a tale from his various times on Earth.

Some tales were intense, some perhaps a bit scary but Bartimaeus loved nothing more than to make Ptolemy laugh. To laugh and grin so wide his jaw would ache afterwards.

Some tales Bartimaeus told many times and yet they did not loose their magic, Ptolemy’s face would crumple into laughter. And in those moments, though few, Ptolemy was no longer a magician, but just a boy.

Just a boy who wanted nothing more than to have fun. To have fun and explore the world.

That was the true essence of Ptolemy and such was the rarity of his laughter that these were the memories Bartimaeus held most dear. He feared that he would loose them one day. Whether time would consume them or The Other Place whisk them away he did not know.

But for now he could remember Ptolmey’s smile as clear as the day he had seen it. He could still hear his laughter with such clarity.

Sometimes if he thought hard enough he could almost be back there. Standing atop an ancient building telling some silly tale, as the boy he had grown to love threw back his head and laughed into the clear blue sky.

Sorry it took a little while to finish - I had a bit of trouble with Ptol’s mouth as I haven’t really drawn a side-on view of people laughing before! Nevertheless I’m very pleased with the result!

I decided to do a different take on Bartimaeus’ lapwing form. I thought that at some points Bart must’ve taken on a half-human, half-lapwing form. I mean, Bart’s always been one for aesthetic. (His lower legs are bright pink as he has a Lapwing’s lower legs and feet - and they have bright pink legs!)

Lapwings are gorgeous birds but a bit of a challenge to paint surprisingly! In any case it was an absolute joy to draw and paint this!
