As a desi girl (sab toh soni saadi desi girl iykyk) I was pleasantly surprised when i got to the Psych Bollywood themed episode "Bollywood Homicide" [s4 ep 6] because it wasn't caricatural or disrespectful (in my opinion) and you can tell that actual south asians worked on it when you look at the cast, the opening theme being sung in hindi / urdu, the choice of songs played in the episode, the storyline and the characters + the fact that they had Juliet in a blue saari which is literally the BEST color anyone could have ever picked for her and she looked drop dead gorgeous !!!! And also can we talk about ABIGAIL KNOWING URDU / HINDI ??? She's so perfect I love her 🫂

Especially for something that came out circa 2009 i was reallyyyy worried it wouldn't hold up now but it truly does and it's a really good episode ♡ Love the Psych themed episodes so much !!

p.s : i know it's bare minimum for a show not to be flat out racist lmfao but i love how its just a really well made episode like all the others in the show and they had actual south asians working on it (and also the fact that NOT EVERY BROWN CHARACTER HAD AN EXAGGERATED ACCENT)

Theres Something About Mira

Lets talk about Mira! To be honest, the first time i watched it she was so over the top it was a bit distracting, but now it just comes across as delightfully ridiculous like the rest of the show. Her character is pretty interesting though, and could have really been fleshed out into a love interest for Gus instead of a plot device. I actually think she could have been good for him because she’d push him outside his comfort zone (like shawn does. Theres an interesting parallel happening with them- fun-loving, adventurous, irresponsible, can’t stay in one job). Sidenote, do you think she actually called Gus 100 times after he broke it off, or do you think he ghosted her because he was scared to confront her? Anyways, it wouldn’t last, but it could have been interesting to see if they could come to a compromise. Plus i feel like her and Shawn would really get along, and it would’ve been fun to see him play the responsible one to her chaos, since he’s usually the chaos master, and it’d be funny to see Shawn doing everything he could to avoid being in the same room as her mother.

it’s so weird to remember there was a whole period of Shawn and Gus’s life where they weren’t always together. I wonder how hard that was for them to separate for the first time in their lives. I have this whole headcanon (slightly angsty) that shawn was visiting him so much at school that people thought he was living in the dorm room instead of Gus, and Gus basically told shawn he needed space to become his own man without him sucking the air out of the room in like the heat of the moment (which gus regretted immediately). And shawn obliged and took off for all his side jobs. But without a cell phone, gus had no way to contact him and had to wait for the postcards to find out where he’d been until Shawn eventually called him (likely from mexico), and Gus apologized and shawn laughs it off like he hadn’t been thinking about it the whole time, and tells him to forget about it. Then they just pretend like it never happened. This would kind of explain why neither of them know about each others early 20’s college age life. Gus didn’t know about Shawns stint at the museum, and then of course, Gus didn’t tell Shawn about Mira (or the acapella group he was in, in a later ep).

Dulé has some of the best line deliveries in the show! The way he says “you’re trying to tell me you went skydiving with a rabbi?” Is so goddamn funny. He’s such a great co-star for james because he can shine all on his own and doesn’t fade into the background which i think would be easy to do when you have a lead who is both the brains, the cool, and the funny at the same time. I think on a less sophisticated show Gus would’ve been the straight man, the one putting up with his antics and wrangling him in, and thats it. But he’s his own person and gets to be funny and the straight man when the times calls and it never feels out of character. Dulé, 👏👏

Just rewatched the firefighter episode (s3 ep 12) of Psych and this quote 😭😭

"I did everything in my power to keep you off the pole."

"And you succeeded, Dad, in every conceivable way."

More than just stopping him from being a firefighter this also implies that Shawn talked to him about wanting to get into pole dancing but his dad didn't let him. Also implies that Shawn told him he liked boys too. (which coupled with the 'my dad's reaction when i told him i wanted to take Gus to prom' and a bunch of other conversations is already partly canon)

This is so silly but the information pleases me therefore i will believe it as true :D

Grace Bowers & The Hodge Podge - Wine On Venus

There’s usually some kind of talk about rock music being “dead” once a year or two, and it’s usually some dinosaur rock artist saying it, Gene Simmons of KISS comes to mind immediately, but other rock musicians have certainly said it, although it just isn’t true. Maybe what they mean is that their definition of rock is dead, like bands from the 1960s and 1970s are extinct, at least emulating that style, but that’s not true, either. There are a lot of bands that bring that style back, including some younger bands and artists that live that kind of music. The artist that I’ll be talking about today is Grace Bowers, an 18-year-old guitar prodigy that has both played the Grand Ol’ Opry and had her debut album, Wine On Venus, produced by one of the members of Brothers Osborne, a successful country-rock group that I happen to enjoy quite a bit.

If these dinosaurs want to say rock is dead, look no further than this record as being proof that it’s not. This record is more or less a hodge podge of styles of music from the 1960s and 1970s, and while this album isn’t anything unique, it does a great job at capturing that atmosphere. It’s got elements of blues, hard-rock, psych-rock, soul, and R&B, and the performances are all solid. Bowers isn’t a singer, as she only plays guitar, but the singer they do have is really awesome. Everyone does a great job on this album, although it’s mainly Bowers’ show. The album is named for her, so she has to be, but her riffs and solos are utterly killer.

I haven’t gone back to this album too, too much, but it’s more so because I’ve been listening to a lot, not because this album isn’t any good. It’s quite good, but maybe the biggest issue this album has is just not being anything special. It’s not a unique-sounding album, but fans of the styles it emulates will surely love it. I’m a sucker for a retro-rock band in that vein, and this record is quite good, especially for a really young guitarist that’s just making a name for herself. She co-wrote every track here, and she is a talented songwriter, even if it isn’t anything unique, so it’ll be interesting to see where her career goes from here. This album won’t quite win any awards this year, but it’s a damn good rock album that should shut up the “rock is dead” crowd.
