It's not my intention to make you cry! 😂 I'm just taking the opportunity of knowing that one of my favorite authors will read my message to express my gratitude haha.
Several of your books are my comfort zone. Even though I practically know them by heart, they help calm or quiet my mind. They help endure my panic attacks. Your books make me laugh, cry, and sometimes yearn for a better life. Authors like you not only provide entertainment, I think we could call it that😅, but often also provide comfort. Moments of peace, laughter, tranquility. Sometimes they also teach a thing or two on certain topics 😏😏so thanks😂. Thank you, Emma.
Note: For much of the book, I kept saying I wanted a Theo in my life, but now I think what I really want is a Duke in my life haha.
Being an author is such a weird thing - there are so, so many measures for 'success,' - publishing deals, royalties, bestseller lists, reviews, sales... yet this right here will always be my greatest achievement. This is my success. And this is why it makes me cry.
I'm a storyteller. I'm only doing what millions have done through history--what thousands of people are doing right at this very moment. It's nothing special, really.
But thousands of books are published every day. And of all those books, of all those millions of words written, mine are what bring you comfort. My words give you peace. Words I've agonised and obsessed over. Words that have kept me up at night. Words that I've literally cried over. Words that have taken a piece of my soul to the page with them.
I will always cry at messages like this. So, thank you. Thank you for reading these little chaotic pieces of my soul. Thank you really isn't enough to tell you what this means.
Your words are what keep mine going.

⌲ kim seokjin
you were in the middle of a conversation with jin when your phone rang from the other room. you excused yourself before walking to your handbag, and you took out your phone. your eyes widened when your dad’s name was displayed, as they never called you anymore. as soon as you answered the phone, shouting from the other end of the line filled the silent room. you could barely understand what your father was saying before he spoke about jin.
you mentally slapped yourself. you hadn’t told your parents yet about your engagement. it had happened merely a week ago, at your favourite restaurant, and you were so happy that you forgot to tell your mother and father about it in the first place. it didn’t help that they didn’t like jin either. they thought that his idol life would leave an infinitesimal amount of time for you. tears sprung to your eyes when your father scolded you for accepting his proposal, and he spat out insults before telling you that you didn’t have their blessing.
as he hung up, you were shocked speechless. your parents (although you rarely listened to them) were so important to you. but so was jin, who was ‘coincidentally’ right behind the door. he started towards the room that you were in once he heard shouting, but when he actually realised what was happening on the phone, he froze. not knowing what to do, he merely stood there, listening to you try and muffle your sobs.
his protective instincts kicked in, and suddenly you felt his arms wrap around you, which only made you sob harder. “j-jin,” you stammered, trying to voice out what happened, but he only shushed you. “i heard everything, jagiya, sorry for eavesdropping.” how jin managed to keep his voice calm, you didn’t know. the only thing that filled the room was silence and uncertainty. you shook his arms off of you and stood up. “jin,” you said, now able to keep your voice at the same level of tone. “i-if my parents don’t give us their blessing, would you still marry me?”
he stayed silent before a small smile made its way onto his face. “what exactly are you thinking, y/n?”
⌲ min yoongi
you stormed into yoongi’s studio, having just come back from lunch with your parents. you plopped down on the couch, pulling your cap over your eyes so that yoongi couldn’t tell you were crying. there was a specific reason as to why you asked your parents to eat with you, especially because you don’t really talk to them anymore. you had never, though, expected them to say what they did.
despite going out of your way to hide your emotions, as soon as yoongi took his headphones off to ask you how it went, he knew you were crying. you both loved and hated how he could read you so well. he sighed, sitting down next to you and pulling your head into his chest. “it didn’t go well, did it?”
the reason you had suggested to grab lunch with your parents was because you needed to tell them about yoongi’s proposal. you hadn’t told anyone yet, even if it happened two weeks ago, because you wanted your mother and father to be the first ones to hear it.
“they said i couldn’t marry you, yoongi.” you sniffled. to you, he didn’t react. he continued to stroke you back while you cried. but to him, a million thoughts were going through his mind. a long period of silence passed before he spoke. well, what do you want to do?” “i....i don’t know.” you stammered, clinging to him a little bit tighter. you looked at his face to see him staring off into space.
“you mean everything to me, but so do my parents.”
⌲ jung hoseok
the car ride back from your parents’ house was silent. both of you had never expected your mother to speak up, much less forbid you from marrying hoseok. you were curled up into a ball and tried to silence your sniffles, while hobi had his eyes glued to the road. you glanced over and noticed his hands were gripping the wheel so tight that his knuckles were white.
the visit to your parents started off so well–your father even going so far to make your favourite dish of his, nakji bokkeum. they were happy, everyone was smiling, your mother adored the green tea hoseok brought for her...but when you told them the news, they turned stone cold. you had never expected that they do that, especially because they always seemed to love your boyfriend.
you broke the silence with a question you never would have thought to ask: “what if we...run away?” your question surprised both hoseok and yourself, leaving an uncertain silence between you two. “y/n....” he trailed off before sparing you a glance.
“as much as i want to whisk you away somewhere, your parents’ opinions count.”
⌲ kim namjoon
you waited abgrily for five rings before namjoon picked up his phone. “how did it go-“ you immediately interrupted him with stressed noises. the other end of the line was quiet. “i’m guessing it went bad?”
you had treated your parents to dinner as a celebration for your engagement to namjoon. since they never had any problem with him, you assumed they would at least be happy for you, but c’est la vie and here you are now.“joon, they said i couldn’t marry you.” you spoke softly. more silence as the atmosphere of the phone call grew tense. you could picture him curling his hands into fists.
“they arranged me to marry a family friend’s son. who even arranges marriages anymore?” you heard a soft chuckle before continuing. “honestly! they were going on about how he’s fit for me and how they were planning this for a long time, but they didn’t have the heart to tell me!”
your boyfriend barely had time to speak when you started ranting, so you dragged on some more. “besides, they always have been fine with you, so i don’t understand why they never told me! at least if they did this they could’ve told me to break up with you or something, I can’t believe-”
“y/n!” namjoon interrupted. your mouth snapped shut.
he spoke again. “is there a reason you’re telling me this on the phone instead of when you get home?” he said. you thought for a while, different choices running through your mind. then, a mischievous smile planted itself on your face. “pack your bags joon, we’re going to get married.”
⌲ park jimin
the sound of the front door snapped you out of the daydream you were in. you sighed, knowing who had just come home. your daydream was about your soon to be wedding that had your face glowing and your smiles getting brighter, if your fiancé hadn’t been ignoring you for the past 4 days. everything was perfect after jimin proposed to you. you were content with everything you had, your heart felt the fullest it had ever felt in a while, you found motivation and strength within your soon-to-be-husband, but all of that changed a week after he got down on one knee.
you didn’t know why, you didn’t know what happened, but when jimin came home, he went straight into the washroom and took a shower. during dinner, despite your many questions and concerns, he stayed quiet. you initially thought he was just tired and let him go. the next day, the exact same thing happened. both before and after he came home. he didn’t respond to your texts, he didn’t show any concern or affection for you, and frankly, you didn’t even know if he cared anymore.
you stood up and walked to the living room, where jimin was hanging up his coat. “how was your day?” you asked, plastering on a hopeful smile. he looked up at you, then brushed past you to your guys’ room. your smile fell. you hadn’t even heard his voice in the last couple days, and you were done with it.
“park jimin!” you cried, following him into your bedroom. “it’s been 4 days since you last said anything to me! what happened?” he stayed silent, which made you even more irritated. the fact that he could talk but just wasn’t made you furious. “so that’s it then? are you just going to sit there?” you yelled, your volume increasing rapidly. “if you wanted to marry me at all then why are you–”
“your parents wouldn’t let me marry you!”
you froze. your parents talked to jimin? without your knowing? turning your attention back to jimin himself, you realised he was crying and instinctively ran into his arms. “i’m sorry for not telling you, and i’m sorry for ignoring you, but i didn’t know what to do.”
⌲ kim taehyung
                   tears.
there were a lot of tears coming from both of you.
both you and taehyung never expected the outburst that your father had when you visited your parents. you knew that your father never had liked your boyfriend, but he always said the only important thing was that you were happy. besides, your mother always kept him in check since she knew how good tae was to you. which is why you never expected them collectively to forbid you from marrying the love of your life.
and for your mother to agree? you had never heard them bad talking tae, so what made them so against you two being married? this is what you asked them after they delivered their statement, which was promptly met with silence. that was when the tears started to fall from your eyes. you looked over at taehyung to see his eyes watering up as well. with you seeing that state of tae you had rarely seen at all, you grabbed him and walked out on your parents. holding your head up high, you drove back home and plopped yourself and your fiancé onto the couch.
you had been silently cuddling for a few minutes before you spoke. “tae, i don’t care if they forbid me from marrying you. i love you and that’s what is important. so if you’re still willing to marry me, let’s run away.” you finished. you glanced up at him.
taehyung looked like a million things were going through his mind. both of you were the most family oriented people on the planet. and the fact that you were willing to throw away your parent’s trust meant that you really did love tae with all of your heart.
letting a few more tears spill, he clung to you and snuggled a bit more.
⌲ jeon jungkook
you called jungkook halfway through him practicing some dances. at first, he was pretty annoyed. you knew his hours and how important and critical work was to him. he huffed in annoyance and picked up. “y/n, what did i–” he was cut off by your quiet sobs. instantly, his face softened and all of his prior negative emotions vanished. “y/n?” he asked, voice urgent. “what’s wrong?”
jungkook could barely hear you spit out an explanation due to your constant wails, but he caught that the problem was about your recent engagement. so, he picked up his bags and strode to the car. texting his manager about leaving, he started the car and sped off to your flat. once his arrival, he practically flew out of the car and burst into the room to see your parents having tea in your living room. cocking his head to the side, he bowed in apology before asking where you were. your mother spoke coldly, telling him you were in your bedroom.
he walked into your room to see you looking out the window. you were frozen, unmoving, with tears streaming down your face. to be honest, it was horrifying for jungkook to see you like that. he ran in front of you and shook your shoulders in attempt to get you to snap out of it.  as soon as you did, he was tackled to the floor in a hug.
“y/n? what’s wrong? why are your parents–”
you shushed him frantically, explaining that your parents had showed up for tea and told you that you couldn’t marry jungkook because they thought he was too reckless and noncommittal. you expected him to be enraged, to run downstairs and yell at your parents. you expected him to get irritated, at least. what you didn’t expect was that jungkook actually laughed.
“if your parents don’t approve of me, it doesn’t even matter. i’m marrying you, not them.”

Tumblr media
Let’s talk about this review I got today for Experimentation. I doubt the person who felt the need to send this message to me is on tumblr, but I’ll never know because they posted as a guest. Which also means I can’t actively reply to it. Now, I’m going to approach this kind of like a PSA or one of those videos we were made to watch in school about why you’re not supposed to walk on the railroad tracks. Only I’ll be explaining why you shouldn’t send messages like this to fanfic authors. First though, let me just say that if you’re going to ask/demand things in your message, then please do so under a registered name so that the author can reply personally to you.
DON’T
Make the mistake of thinking that the readers are the only ones who’d appreciate an update. Understand that I have put hours upon hours of my life into this fic alone and that no one is more disappointed than I am when another day goes by without another chapter. It’s not a competition, but trust me, I would win if it was.
Display any amount of distrust in a writer who has done their best to be open and honest with you about where they stand with their fanfic. I’ve said I’m not abandoning this fic countless times now and when people come at me - or any other writer in a similar situation I imagine - time and time again, “just wanting to make sure,” it can make the writer feel like their word means nothing.
Make it seem like a writer is wasting your time by making you wait for updates. We write because we love to write and we put our stories, things we write on our time, out there for people to read for free. You can’t be waiting forever? That’s fine. I’m not asking you, too.
Tell a writer that something that is out of their control will ruin the story they’ve put, let’s say, over two years into. That isn’t going to inspire them to writer faster. No, what it’s going to do is either a) make them feel pressured and spike their anxiety through the roof, or b) make them wonder what the point is then. For this instance specifically, with another movie coming out, it isn’t going to matter when I finish Experimentation because no matter what the ‘canon’ of the story is going to be messed up regardless. I’ve written fanfics for shows that are set in season two when the show itself is on its fourth season. Fanfic isn’t made to be canon. I just happen to have tried to slot mine in to the movie in which it takes place. Nothing is changing that.
Explain everything you want to happen in the fic and then tell the writer that it’s pissing you off that you aren’t getting what you want. It isn’t your story. And it makes you sound like an entitled little shit.
Claim to speak for an entire fic fanbase. Not only will that dissuade the author once again from actively wanting to write, but it will also make you sound like an asshole.
DO
Say things like, “i just love this story so much, it’s actually so realistic and conveys exactly what i think each of them are thinking.”
Basically the opposite of everything else in this review.
I’m lucky. The majority of people who read my stories are supremely supportive and patient, and I’m thankful for that.
Reviews like this are not helpful. They make writers want to put their pen or laptop down and not pick it up again. Reviews like this are exactly why some of my favourite fics have been abandoned by their writers. I completely understand wanting more of something you enjoy and being frustrated when another day goes by and you find yourself still without more. I read fic, I’ve been there. But I understand that life, mental health, family, work, and numerous other things can get in the way of a person being able to write.
If you’re thinking about posting a review even remotely similar to this, please understand that too.

SO I received this (no I am not auto-congratulating myself guys XD) and even though I am no longer active here on Tumblr, I didn’t want to ignore it. If you take the time to write such an adorable, inspiring note, then hell yes you deserve a reply (if I see it obviously O_O).
(note: this was submitted by @bryanmcdonald7 I have no idea how this thing works on tumblr, and I don’t want her to not be tagged just in case). Everything following the “line” are her words:
--------------------------------------------------------------
@pimsiepim I am still not too sure about how Tumblr works and I apologies in advance because I might have posted this message twice.
Here’s the thing Cindy,
when you first announced that there was going to be a sequel to “His Girl Wednesday”, I decided that I was not going to read it. After reading the last chapter of HGW, I had so many mixed feelings and felt too conflicted that I just could not. I guess I was disappointed because I did not expect such end. But although the end did not sit right with me, I could not deny how much fun I had reading HGW and how much I loved it. I ADORE (yup capital letters) HGW, I read it so many times that I stopped counting after 5. It is up there with all my favourite Olicity fanfictions, and to be honest it is probably my favourite one.
The way you write Olicity, Felicity and Oliver as individuals is really fantastic. You have reconciled me with this ship quite frankly.
So, a couple of days ago, as I was re-reading HGW, my stubborn self decide to give “Some Things Are Meant To Be” a try. I am 15 chapters in (Pony!!!) and I don’t regret a thing! Your writing is exquisite. You made me change my mind on something I was dead set on not reading and for that I thank you very much.
And don’t even get me started on “The Old-Fashioned Way”. At first I was not really sold on the plot but I decided to just dive into the story because I am a big fan of your writing. I already love it and cannot wait for the chapters to come.
I apologies for the rant, but I really wanted to express my gratitude and the love that I have for your work.
So. Thank you Cindy.
Chance
--------------------------------------------------------
First of all, I am painfully aware of a certain number of readers who were very disappointed with the ending of HGW (but, and I want to thank you all, most of you didn’t feel the need to explose in anger or tell me about how I ruined things for them. It’s never nice to read that as an author, PSA. I have read stories that took a road I really didn’t like or ended up in a way I didn’t like but never felt the need to drag down the author and discourage them from following what the characters or the story was telling them to do.)
The thing about HGW, I did have doubts, and while writing STAMTB I also had doubts about that road. My personal life was also very tough at that time so it clearly didn’t help, especially since my interest in the show was dropping like... well it was dropping fast and hard. But, and that’s when I’m really happy when people like Chance coem forward, is that I didn’t do it for the sake of a sequel, for the safety of still writing the same couple, or to try to get the success from the first one to the other (spoiler alert, STAMTB wasn’t/isn’t as succesful as HGW. I never expected it because I had been astonished by HGW’s success in the first place). And a bunch of you who gave the story a try (probably by curiosity? I know I’d still be curious XD) then came forward to tell me that... they “got” it. They saw the interest of that particular road for the two of them. They saw what it allowed me to explore, and how it allowed the readers to feel even more deeply because they had grown attached to the characters over already one long story. Felicity’s angst and pain at the beginning of STAMTB would have never, ever been as impactful if you hadn’t seen her slowly but surely fall in love over 51 chapters. Oliver’s self hate and doubt and fear wouldn’t have been so gut wrenching if you hadn’t seen the carefree Oliver slowly turning into a Man only to have everything he had built and created being ripped away from him. It was also the best way to show that no matter what, these two were meant to be together. When life was somehow easy, they fell in love. When death tore them apart, they STILL loved each other. And when they were reunited and everything seems so hard and dangerous and complicated, they only loved each other more.
So, thank you so much for giving it a try, for taking a chance on them and I’m very, very happy you loved them in the sequel as well.
As for the Old-Fashioned Way, I promise there won’t be no island involved whatsoever - apart maybe a vacation in Hawai.
Cindy
