Hi friends, I am putting a silly fic writing challenge to myself that involves writing fic for a fandom starting with every letter of the alphabet + every numeral. But I am missing some numbers and coming up short on potential things I could check out to fill for them (yes I am reading and watching new things JUST so I can complete this challenge 😅)

So! If you have something to recommend that starts with the numeral 4, 6, or 8, please let me know!

(I have a potential fill for 8 but I haven’t watched it yet so I’m looking for backups in case I don’t like it/it doesn’t work out for the fic writing.)

Requirements:

—It can be just about any type of media!! Movies, books, short stories, tv shows of any stripe (anime, cartoon, western live action, c/k/j-drama, etc etc), fiction podcasts/radio plays, graphic novels, webcomics, multimedia, possibly video games. The only limitations are

I’ve got to be able to experience it without significant expenditure (so if your video game rec comes with a quality let’s play, awesome! Otherwise it’s got to be affordable and playable on iPhone, MacBook, or PS4, bc that’s what I’ve got. Similarly any live performance would need an accessible recording or a script I can read)

I don’t write RPF, so any nonfiction/bandom/celebrity fic/similar is out. Historical fiction is possible, but the farther back and more fictionalized the better

—The title must start with the NUMERAL 4, 6, or 8, as it gets listed on Ao3. If it doesn’t have an Ao3 tag yet, the title must be consistently stylized as the numeral, not the WORD four, six, or eight. For example, The Sixth Sense is not a viable option, but I’m using 10th Kingdom for 1 and 9-1-1 for 9 (91 Days was also an option). Because I’m going by Ao3 tags it also can’t be like, a specific comic issue title where the actual fandom tag would be “Batman”.

That’s it!! I know that was a lot of details, so thank you for reading through the whole post if you did and thank you in advance for any recs! I know it’s very specific haha but ONE of you must have some hyper niche anime or webcomic you are constantly dying to recommend that answers to this description.

On the off chance you have more than one recommendation, I’ll put some additional pros/cons beneath the cut

—obviously it will help if I don’t have to commit to a 15 book fantasy epic or 100+ episodes of a series, but if I can get a sense for the world and characters in the first book/season/whatever I’ll give it a shot

—Fantasy/sci-fi are the genres I tend to be most interested in, and also work well for what I’m trying to do with the fic challenge side. I love a good mystery as well.

—I am a hard sell on any sitcom/slice of life/romcom type stuff. That’s not a flat no on those genres, but you’re gonna need a good pitch for why I’ll like this one

My phone has more powerful hardware than like a PS3, why are the available games still the same games with different names from the first Iphone? Ya'll could be doin so much more. And the market is wildly oversaturated with the existing game types. Like your tower defense game is now one of a literal million, and all the TD players aren't going to just move away from the game they've spent a thousand dollars on to play your new game that you'll completely overhaul and destroy all their progress within a year. Every 'timer' game is as a drop in the ocean, literally, there might be more of these games than there are grains of sand on the beach. Match 3 is what we use to teach babies colors, why am I expected to spend 65k dollars getting onto a leaderboard? I can literally run a PS4 emulator on my phone, so my phone can not only run ps4 games, but the ps4 itself at the same time. JUST MAKE A GAME THAT IS A REAL GAME! I know that that particular product model is dead, and has been for awhile, but for awhile there, they were just making mobile ports of actual games, but I can't find any of them on the play store anymore, so they must have pulled them. If I had the wherewithal to do it myself, I'd be running circles around every mobile gaming company out there, by releasing one game that's just fun to play and isn't monetized all to hell. What ever happened to give me money dollars and heres a complete game? The gaming crash can't come soon enough. Just collapse everything honestly. Capitalism in general.

Summary:

When do you think Sony is gonna drop the number from PlayStation generation names? They've been the most consistent of any game company in history, PlayStation, PS2, PS3, PS4, PS5, so surely the next one in 2026-ish should be called the PS6, but Apple had the same trend going with the iPhone until they jumped from 8 to X to 11. There never was an iPhone 9, so who's to say whether Sony will keep up the PlayStation pattern forever? Maybe some corporate executive will say they need to revitalize the brand with a new trendy trademark. They had the PSP for a while, and then the PS Vita which nobody ever called the PSV, so maybe they'll follow Nintendo's lead with the console-portable hybrid Switch and call the next one the PlayStation Nomad or PS Lodestar, PS Zenith, PS Wayfarer, some shit like that. If not the PS6 then maybe the PS7 sometime in the 2030s.

I only realised how many games I've played after writing the full list... list. Huh. I have a lot of reviews to write. Honourable mention goes to Shadow of the Colossus, which I completed in a 16-hour playthrough in one sitting and never touched again because I was borrowing someone else's PS4. I don't remember enough to review it but that was the fastest I've speedran a game ever.

🥳🥳🥳 Happy birthday to me!! I’m now 34 years old. I still look good and I’ve now got a PS5 that my family have all pitched in to buy me as my main birthday present along with Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga on the PS5 as well. I’ve still got my PS3 so I’ll finish off Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition as I’m 90% through it, then it’s on to finishing PS4 games on my PS5. 😁 My mum, my dad and my lovely dog, Cora, we are all going on holiday to Wales next week and this is my other present from my mum and dad.
