PR Tools: the ‘shroom boom’ spawns as sloppy press releases as its cannabis predecessor
PR Tools: the ‘shroom boom’ spawns as sloppy press releases as its cannabis predecessor
I had some fun slagging (and editing) the sloppy writing in the cannabis boom but now as mushrooms and psychedelics are becoming ‘the next big thing,’ the press release writing is equally poor, if not worse. In this news release, the news judgment and the story emphasis is abysmal and full of so many extra words. The writer should definitely Download my How To Be A Better Writer on…

Hootsuite App Review: A Scheduling Tool for the PR Professional on the Go
PROS
Hootsuite allows users to manage multiple social media networks, to connect with customers, and to grow their personal brands on social media, all in one place. It offers its users the ability to reply to messages, brand mentions, and comments through a single dashboard, with a single click.
Users can track their performance and grow their audiences with analytics reports that reveal what's working on their social media platforms and what isn't. The app allows users to connect with over 35 of the Internet's most popular social networks as well, and boasts more than 16 million users, in over 175 countries. It's available in free and paid versions.
Plans offer features such as:
· Bulk Scheduling
· Real-Time Analytics
· Custom Analytics Reports
· Social Sweepstakes
· Unlimited RSS Integrations
· Contest Templates
· Custom Branded URLs
· Social Media Certifications
· Custom Solutions (Enterprises)
Hootsuite works on desktops, laptops and mobile devices and is easy to use. I'm not the most tech savvy person, but haven't had any problems using Hootsuite to schedule my weekly Twitter posts. It truly is "set it and forget it."
CONS
The free version only allows users to manage up to three social networks and a single user profile. This is fine for a student or for a fledgling PR professional, but once users gain experience, they'll have to upgrade to a paid plan to access more networks, additional users, and enhanced features.
The app doesn't seem to work too well with Facebook business pages, at least not those that are linked to personal accounts, like my page is. It opts to connect to personal pages, by default. To date, I have been unable to connect the app to my business page.
SUGGESTIONS
The app might be better if it allowed free users to connect and manage up to five social networks. It's still less than what the paid subscribers would be getting and would allow the more advanced users to accommodate more of their social media platforms.
WISH APP
For me, the ultimate PR app would be free, have all of Hootsuite's pros, and none of the cons. It would post pictures, GIFS and videos without any issues; post on time, every time; set reminders and install updates/hotfixes to both the app and to social media platforms, automatically. An app like that would be a real time saver.

Mission Innovative Public Relations Tools and Resources
This month’s mission included the course Innovative Public Relations Tools and Resources. In the beginning this was one of the classes that I really looked forward to taking and it certainly has lived up to the hype. Looking back at the goals I set for myself in my Mastery Journal Timeline, I feel that this class has definitely met my original course objective. My goal for month five was to learn how to use all of the latest programs, techniques tech and public relations tools.
This course did a wonderful job of helping me achieve my goal. The class showed me how to take traditional public relations concepts and implement them with today’s new PR tools and techniques. I learned about different programs and applications that PR professional use daily to help them reach a larger audience and simplify the growing demands of their jobs. My favorite assignment is when we had to research different PR apps and then come up with one of our own, that would add to the world of PR tools. Doing this assignment not only helped me learn about what’s out there for apps today but also think about filling a void that may not be being met.
This class also gave me a better understanding of how to better communicate with my target audience. It has taught me a number of different tools and techniques to be able to distribute it on different social media platforms. The programs tools and techniques that I learned in this class will not only assist me now but will come in handy as a professional public relations specialist. Learning how to use a blog, media page and other techniques to promote my website have helped me think outside the box when it comes to creating content for a social media campaign.
Everything from class assignments to the feedback I received from my professor, has helped give me a clear understanding of the latest public relations tools that are out there and how they are being used in a professional setting.

This course, because of the standard to which my assignments were held, was probably one of the most difficult courses I’ve ever taken at Full Sail University. Who knew that a course about Innovative tools and resources in public relations would be so informative? I know I didn’t! We’ve come a far way from sending corporate email blasts to the employees of major corporations in order to create and establish the feel of a brand. I’ve learned that these days it is necessary to understand the social media platform that you are using and create content specifically for that platform so as to properly engage that audience. A person’s digital identity and the way they manage their online platform can make or break their brand.
This course has taught me how necessary it is to truly engage yourself in your campaign if you’d like to get favorable results. I picked up a few priceless techniques that I will utilize to help build my brand’s social media presence. Additionally, I realized that not all good publicity is good publicity. While it may be so in the case of individuals; when it comes to companies, irreversible damage can be done which can cost the company both monetary damages, it’s reputation and the trust of its customers. That said, it is very important, especially when problems arise, to be very calculated and strategic about the way issues are handled.
This course taught me that despite what life throws at you, the show must go on in a way that represents you as though you yourself are a brand. Pursuing a Master’s degree online as a single mother who works full time is no easy feat. However, as my own first client, I’ve realized that all I can do is my best and continue to make things fall apart until they can come together again.

More PR Tools: Come on Ontario doctors, how can you advise the population with such sloppy writing?
I am continually amazed at how first rate organizations like the Ontario Medical Association pay good money to newswires to distribute such flawed news releases. The copy below commits numerous fundamental errors, including word repeats that can easily be avoided. Here’s how: Headline Original Staying safe – Top 10 things Ontario doctors are asking you for this holiday season (15…

Library Outreach #2 - What Are Other Libraries Doing?
First I thought I’d start off with other colleges nearby... College Park was fun to look at -
marketing strategies:
reposting other people’s (high quality) photos, especially of pretty outside views (and giving photo credit of course)
events:
speaker series
Shakespeare event series that honored his 400th death anniversary
edible book fest
wizard challenge
dialogue forum about social media and politics
other neat ideas:
for the warmer weather part of the year, the library lets students check out hammocks... maybe we could do a similar thing where people could check out outdoor blankets for sitting (and studying) outside ?
“at a glance” chart for navigating spaces and technology available
I didn’t find anything really striking from UMBC, Loyola or Goucher.
One social media trend that I like is the “book face friday” where a book with a face on it is held up against a real person!
Public libraries, seeing how they are catered to the entire public (not just college campuses), seem to have fun events related to crafting (especially for kids and for seniors)... makes me wonder what fun/light events we could do here!
I also came across these outreach ideas:
http://www.ala.org/advocacy/advleg/publicawareness/campaign@yourlibrary/prtools/academicresearch/moregoodideas
I love the murder mystery idea from Gould Library! This seems like a very creative way to educate students about the library while being an entertaining event as welll.

Mastery Journal - IPR
Social media platforms have become imperative tools in a PR professional’s toolbox. PR professionals use social media everyday to spread the word about their clients, communicate with their customers, and respond quickly to concerns or questions. However, it is important to know how to use these tools before attempting to use them.
The Innovative Public Relations Tools and Resources (IPR) course at Full Sail has afforded me a better understanding of the uses for the various social media platforms. It has also explained what strategies to apply when using them for public relations and building my brand. Not all platforms are created equal. It is important to understand your audience and how to convey your message before posting to social media. Each platform varies with the way the user interacts with the information.
As a PR professional it is necessary to take the time to interact with your audience on a personal and emotionally positive level. Critical and ethical thinking must be applied to your writing. This will lead to creating powerful content that will connect with your audience and get them sharing and talking about your brand.
