Hello!
I was wondering if you had any good recommendations for books containing disability/disabled characters? Fiction or non fiction. I'm trying to put together a little disability literature resource, and I've occasionally seen you share some books on it. I thought your blog would be an excellent place to come to for some more global ones!
Thank you, and I hope your reading is going well!
Oh wow, I haven't been making many lists lately so I'm not searching out books as much as I used to. But here are some more global/non-US ones that I know of/have gathered from various lists ( I haven't read all of these but most are on my TBR if I haven't.) I'd love to see your resource when you're finished!

The Theft of Sunlight by Intisar Khanani (fantasy N. Africa/Arabia-ish series) A girl with clubfoot teams up with a thief to tackle child trafficking.
The Library of the Dead by TL Huchu (Scotland, diverse heritages, series) Magical mysteries with a wisecracking wheelchair-user secondary character.
I Am Not Alone by Francisco X. Stork (Mexican-American) Contemporary novel about an undocumented boy developing schizophrenia.

idk ur ocs well so here is an ask that's a free pass to say anything and everything you wanna about one of em (apologies on no further prompting if this is too broad ummmm. try to give an elevator pitch summary of who they are❓🤔 or one of their biggest goals in life if they got one)
I thought I answered this question ngl 💀
SO main goal in the story in general is them moving out of the city to live and do their lives, the reason they moved in was because it was cheap, and promised monsters a better life! That's what the authority promised, the city itself is ruined down, its new york but monster. But they do get caught up in the authorities because surprise surprise Melody's old stalker is apart of the authority ‼️ so that's basically the plot
Pitch wise, like I said main goal is to move away. But say for melody and ares, they want to move away because they want to start a family and to try and at least not continue the familial trauma 😭 Tad wants to start her own thing, buisness, newspaper, whatever and be away from her family since they tie her down so much, and be her own person. Scout doesn't really have a plan because he has no family that supports him. He is with the flow of what he wants to do, but maybe to continue his baseball thing to support himself. Tldr at the end they all calm down no more excitement, just like peace.
BUT random facts.
Ares: he's based of Zuke from No straight roads, he is the eldest of 4 (biological) kids, his Prosthetic arm is homemade, he stands at 6 foot 5, Likes to bird watch, is Jamacian!!! And is a tiger shark guy.
Melody: she's not really based off of anyone in particular, is the baby of 3 girls. her favorite brand is baby phat (monster version), she can wiggle her antenna, and that hair around her body is FUR. DENSE FUR. And she does have wings!! They just shrink down to fit in her clothes. And is the shortest.
Tad: boy she's the middle child of 6 kids, shes a bit of a jack of all trades, Likes to start projects and never finishes them, is the oldest out of the four (27), is based off Kanamori from keep your hands off eizouken. Based off a Wallace flying frog, AND is from Malaysia
Scout: Only child 😭, trans guy, he's actually the final guy of the group I worked on, has a fasnation with the forest and loves to talk about bears, sounds like Ryuji from persona, his actual name is Scott, is the second shortest, has a collection of bottle caps. and is based of a Vampire bat, kinda does have fur like Mel to

i don’t expect a ton of success with this post but i was trying these random doll clothes i had in a bag on my barbie looks doll to see what fit and decided now would be a good a time as any to ask for identification help!!
primarily for the white dress she’s modeling in the first photos, it’s very lovely, although needs washed and some repairs in the back! but i’m also curious about the other clothes, and then i decided to empty my little bin of miscellaneous doll accessories to see if any of them could be identified!! i would guess it’s vastly barbie but there could be other things lol
other notes are:
• i thought the hibiscus print clothes could potentially go to a hannah montana doll i thought i had as a kid but i couldn’t find a similar one so i’m not sure
• i think i took the purple dress off a doll i found a long time ago with a broken leg who i also didn’t recognize, but she was very pretty and i remember wanting to make her a prosthetic so she’s still around if it’s the correct doll. she was paler than your average barbie i believe and blonder as well
• i have a few other accessories that i believe match the little golden hairclip! they just are somewhere else because i remember thinking they were cute, i believe they were a very tiny brush and a handheld mirror
• as far as shoes i figure they could go to a lot of things if the molds are reused especially barbie shoes but i’m curious regardless! especially about the pairs and the darker pink boot
• it says malaysia along the edge of the sole but that’s all i know
• there’s a few britney spears things i would assume go to a britney doll so i clumped them together but that’s not my forte and i know very little about them/her so i included them anyways!
thank you in advance if anyone can offer any help!! i probably have some more things around but this is all i’ve got rn, and i definitely have some actual barbie’s that need identified too but i would have to pull them out lol

Cyborg Jisung Fanfic
I had been playing a lot of Detroit: Become Human when starting to write this little thing. I didn't really want to do a whole story about androids like in the game but half robot half humans. This is a short little bit I started about Jisung having a highly advanced robotic arm and keeping it secret from the world. No idea if I'll ever continue this one or not. :/
Cyborg Jisung Fanfic
Jisung had a secret, which he hadn't ever told anyone. The only people who knew, were his family back in Malaysia. He was still living in Malaysia when the accident happened. He had been walking to school when a car ran a red light and struck him. It was bad. All Jisung remembered was looking up long enough to see the car heading for him, then felt the pain as it struck his left side. He blacked out after that, only to wake up literal months later in the hospital.
He was confused and disoriented at first, wondering why he couldn't feel his left arm anymore. He looked down and gasped in surprise at the shiny metal limb that stared back at him, from his shoulder to his fingers. He tried to lift his arm, to wiggle his fingers, staring in shock and amazement as his new arm responded. Just like it would if it was his original, organic one. How in the world…?
The doctors eventually came in and explained what had happened. When he was struck by the car, his left arm was shattered. There were too many breaks in the bones to be able to patch it up. His parents consented to amputation and to having him fitted with the newest robotic prosthetic available on the market. Jisung was shocked but not all that surprised; his parents were rich, worked respected jobs. They could easily afford it.
When he asked his mother about it, she explained that they both knew and respected his dream of becoming big in the music scene. They knew it would be hard for him to achieve his dreams missing an arm. So they put forth all the resources they could, to keep his dream alive. Jisung had teared up and cried at that. Sometimes he felt like he didn't deserve the love and support his parents continually showed him.
In the following weeks, Jisung quickly got used to his new robotic arm. It was incredibly strong, so he needed to learn to control it, to use it lightly, lest he accidentally break things. It had what the doctor's called retractable skin. It was artificial skin, of course, but it matched Jisung's own and looked so real. When Jisung looked in the mirror, he looked totally normal.
When Jisung asked the doctor how he was able to control his new arm, it was explained that they implanted a tiny, rice sized microchip into the base of his brain. Jisung didn't understand all of the technological and medical terms the doctor used, but in short, it worked in conjunction with his brain, allowing him to fully control his robotic arm. Jisung would have to return to the hospital in Malaysia once a year, to have his prosthetic's software updated and to make sure it was running as it should.
Jisung went back to life as normal after that. No one knew about his robotic arm. Even when he finally left Malaysia, to go to South Korea to pursue his dream of entering the music scene, everyone else was none the wiser. And Jisung planned to keep it that way. Of course, there were plenty of times he wanted to tell his members. But what difference did it make, really? He just had a robotic arm, controlled by a tiny microchip in his brain. It wasn't totally different from people who had prosthetic legs and stuff.
His prosthetic was just… a lot more advanced.
Jisung jumped a mile in the air as there was a knock on his bedroom door. He quickly unplugged his robotic arm from the charger, letting the artificial skin cover it once more. He took a deep breath to calm himself before opening the door.

Happy 95th Birthday, Journalist and newsreader Sandy Gall.
Born Henderson Alexander Gall Penang, Malaysia, in 1927, where his father was a rubber planter.
Sandy was educated in Scotland at Trinity College (Glenalmond College), a boys' independent school in Glenalmond in Perth and Kinross, where he boarded.
Sandy’s journalism career started seventy years ago on Aberdeen’s Press and Journal, before he joined Reuters and then ITN, covering wars and revolutions around the world. He has written four books about Afghanistan and made three documentaries, two of which were nominated for BAFTA awards.
One of Sandy’d most memorable moments on News at Ten was an “and finally” which was usually a we light-hearted tale to close the show. It was with his co-newsreader Reginald Bosanquet, who always had a smile across his face with this item, he told viewers that an old lady’s cat had got trapped high up a tree and the emergency services had managed to rescue it.He then closed the item and the programme by saying, ‘Unfortunately’ – while breaking into his wide smile – ‘they then accidentally drove over the cat and killed it.’ He’d allowed himself that unknowing smile, which he was famous for, and the next thing was the ITN phone lines were jammed all night with viewers protesting, ‘How dare he report on this poor cat’s death and have a laugh across his face.’He didn’t mean to, but it was the irony of it all.
Until recently Sandy helped run a charity in his name in Afghanistan the involved Physical Rehabilitation Services. During their time they trained over 200 Afghan physiotherapists and prosthetic and orthotic technicians to staff rehabilitation centres across the country dealing with over 10,000 prostheses, orthoses and wheelchairs made by Afghan technicians; and over 50,000 patients treated with physiotherapy.

Science, Medicine, And The Future: Artificial Limbs
Advancements in science and medicine have ushered in a new era of possibilities for individuals with limb loss. Artificial limbs, once confined to the realms of science fiction, have become a reality that transforms lives and restores mobility. The emergence of sophisticated prosthetic limbs (Kaki palsu), such as prosthetic hands and legs, is a testament to the boundless potential of human ingenuity and the tireless pursuit of improving the quality of life for those in need. Artalive Malaysia stands at the forefront of this transformative field, offering cutting-edge prosthetic care and empowering individuals to embrace their potential.
Prosthetic limbs, commonly known as artificial limbs, are devices designed to replace missing body parts, providing users with the ability to perform daily activities and participate in a wide range of physical endeavors. The evolution of artificial limbs has been remarkable, driven by advancements in various fields, including materials science, robotics, and neuroscience.
Prosthetic hands, in particular, have seen incredible progress. Modern prosthetic hands are equipped with intricate sensors and microprocessors that allow users to perform delicate tasks with precision and finesse. The integration of myoelectric technology, which harnesses signals from the user's residual muscles, enables intuitive control of prosthetic movements. This breakthrough has transformed the lives of amputees, offering them the ability to grasp objects, write, and engage in activities that were once deemed unattainable.
Similarly, prosthetic legs have evolved significantly, providing amputees with a remarkable level of mobility and freedom. Advanced prosthetic legs incorporate dynamic components that mimic the natural movements of human limbs, allowing users to walk, run, and even engage in sports and recreational activities with ease. The integration of carbon-fiber materials and computer-controlled hydraulics has led to prosthetic limbs that are not only lightweight but also capable of adapting to various terrains and gaits.
The role of prosthetic care cannot be overstated in this journey of transformation. Prosthetists and healthcare professionals at Artalive Malaysia are instrumental in providing personalized and comprehensive prosthetic care. From the initial assessment to the fitting process and ongoing support, they ensure that each individual's unique needs and aspirations are met.
Artalive Malaysia takes pride in its commitment to staying at the cutting edge of prosthetic technology. They continuously strive to integrate the latest advancements into their solutions, empowering their patients with the most advanced and suitable prosthetic limbs available. By adopting a patient-centric approach, Artalive Malaysia supports individuals through every step of their prosthetic journey, encouraging them to rediscover their potential and embrace life with newfound confidence.
The future of artificial limbs holds even more promise. Researchers are exploring the possibilities of mind-controlled prosthetic limbs, where users can control their artificial limbs through their thoughts. The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and neural interfaces could lead to seamless and intuitive interactions between users and their prosthetic limbs.
Moreover, the advent of 3D printing technology has revolutionized the prosthetic industry, making custom-made artificial limbs more accessible and affordable. 3D printing allows for rapid prototyping and customization, enabling prosthetists to tailor solutions to each individual's unique anatomy and preferences.
As the fields of science and medicine continue to progress, the potential for artificial limbs to transform lives will only grow. The collaborative efforts of researchers, engineers, and healthcare professionals will undoubtedly pave the way for even more groundbreaking innovations, ultimately enhancing the lives of individuals with limb loss.
In conclusion, the integration of science, medicine, and technology has propelled the development of artificial limbs to unprecedented heights. Prosthetic hands and legs have evolved from rudimentary tools to sophisticated, life-enhancing devices. Artalive Malaysia exemplifies the dedication of the prosthetic care industry to empower individuals with the latest advancements in artificial limbs. As we look to the future, the journey of artificial limbs continues to inspire hope and optimism, reminding us of the incredible power of human ingenuity in improving lives and shaping a brighter future for all.

How did shockwave find trailbreaker if the latter’s parents fought so hard to keep their kid safe and hidden? Now I’m wondering if trailbreaker convinced his parents to let him go.
When not a Senator, Shockwave specialized in the research of cybernetic prosthetics made affordable to people as an alternative to the extremely pricey models conventionally available (This is where he learned to make/program the prototype armor and also how he met Wheeljack—-an amputee who also made his life’s mission to get the tech into the hands of as many people like him who need it). He sometimes gives them out for free to amputees on a case by case basis and in a stroke of providence, one of the cases he agreed to look into was that of an ex-agent of a private company who was fired after he was maimed in a ‘workplace related’ incident.
The man’s scars/disfigurements, which looked like massive puncture wounds, intrigued Shockwave who asked about them, and whether out of guilt and wanting to confess or just needing to get it off his chest (as it turns out, the incident was never reported because these companies do not have the same leeway they did in the US as compared to Malaysia which is much more strict with their oversight), he told Shockwave about the ill-fated task of getting custody of a target child by any means possible. In the incident, his partner was killed, and he, who had a little more distance put in between him and the child (he was trying to keep the parents at bay—-they were both briefed that this child could produce shields, but not that it could take on deadly qualities if stressed), was severely injured.
This is the first time Shockwave hears about Trailbreaker’s existence.
He followed the trail of breadcrumbs afterwards across the sea (Malaysia is divided into the Peninsula and more remote Sabah/Sarawak region, which was where Trailbreaker’s family fled) and took with him Tarn and Skids, who were teenagers at that point. Initially, the parents were ready to throw the fuck down, but they relented after he told them he wasn’t here to buy or steal the child, he was here to bring them to a school for children like them, and Skids and Tarn both proved that they were ‘like’ Trailbreaker.
Shockwave spoke to the parents and assured them that Trailbreaker could always write home and could go back on holidays, while Tarn and Skids spoke to an aloof, quiet Trailbreaker about their experiences with the academy—-how Shockwave saved them and took them to this cool place where they learned to develop and control their powers and could take classes without those powers becoming a reason for society to fear and shun them, and how they traveled the world looking for others like them to help—-which got Trailbreaker slowly but surely excited about. Friends, getting out of this village where he’d been hidden for half a decade, being able to go to school, all the of the stuff even the most sheltered pre-teen would want, so he agreed, even if he was petrified of the change (both Skids and Tarn assured him they’d help him adapt).

The Winter Soldier
Bucky Barnes Gen, 1930 words, rated M for violence
Jewish Bucky Barnes, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier: Episode 3 Power Broker
Bucky's inner thoughts when Zemo, Conrad Mack and the Winter Soldier walk into the Brass Monkey
TW: violence, slight dissociation during the fight
Read on AO3
Part 21 of Making a Home - the Jewish Bucky series
--------------
Low Town is overwhelming. Neon lights, smokes, sweat, sex, food, trash, everything out in the open. There are signs in multiple languages around him as they walk by. Bahasa Indonesia, Thai, Mandarin, Japanese, Russian, English, Arabic. He can read most of them. They’re all shop names, advertisements for services. Amongst them is a 24-hour Russian laundromat that probably doesn’t launder clothing.
Money changes hands at the corner of his eyes, fat stacks of bills in various currencies. Kuwaiti and Bahraini dinars, US Dollars, Euros, Yen, Rubles. He can’t see any rupiah, which is interesting for an Indonesian-archipelago island but Madripoor has always been its own thing.
There are guns everywhere, from small pistols to assault rifles paraded around on shoulders with little to no care. There are so many of them it’s hard to count but he does it anyway. 78 firearms by the time they make it to the door of the Brass Monkey. 91% of those they have crossed paths with were armed in some way that he could see.
It’s so much. It’s familiar in an almost overwhelming way. Zemo walks ahead, proud and tall and confident. Any hint of the wistful man in the plane has been scrubbed off. He’s Baron Helmut Zemo; commander, colonel, criminal. Bucky doesn’t know exactly what Zemo did to get those Madripoori contacts. He’s thankful for them anyway.
Sam follows him, obviously uncomfortable in his colorful clothing, his slightly heeled boots, the necklaces and flair. Sam’s a soldier, a man of simple needs, simple clothing. He’s not used to this. Bucky’s pretty sure there’s a hidden meaning in the wax pattern of the suit, but he doesn’t know it. Zemo must. Unless the twinkle in his eye when he took the outfit out of its bag in the plane was born from somewhere else.
Bucky closes the march, keeping an eye on their backs and their surroundings. He almost expected Zemo to have a copy of his Winter Soldier gear in the second clothing bag but he didn’t. This… is better. Much better. He doesn’t know how he would handle being in the Soldier’s actual clothes again.
The jacket is leather and only has one sleeve. It’s a deep, dirty red, rusted, ashy, and bloody. The pants are tactical, close with a thick belt. There’s a harness around his chest, the same kind he used to wear to carry his Škorpion vz. 61 on. Except he doesn’t have his guns right now. Zemo insisted they come weaponless. The harness is purely decorative. Fucker.
Granted, it does make Bucky feel less like himself, and more like the Soldier. The harness pulls his shoulders back by the simple fact that it’s there. It’s not tight, but it’s just… there. And it makes him stand differently. He has fingerless gloves as well and the air against his fingertips is almost strange.
He finds himself moving differently, with the perfect silence of the world’s best trained assassin. He finds himself melting once more into the skin of a machine. And for once, he lets himself go.
He wishes for guns or knives, but all he has is himself. It’s enough to make him lethal, of course; his body was made for killing. Every cell in his body makes him an apex predator. It’s a wonder he doesn’t have fucking razor sharp teeth.
In between the serum and the training, he doesn’t need a weapon. He is the weapon. He walks behind Zemo and Sam silently, darkly. He doesn’t need to bare his teeth for people to know one word from either of the men in front of him and he will rip them to shreds.
Zemo’s voice resounds in Russian.
There are 103 people in this room, and if the earlier statistics are right, at least 93 of them are armed with a firearm or large knife of some sort. With the way the crowd envelops them, it’s impossible to completely avoid fire if something has to happen. He’ll take care of taking his handler to safety. And Sam.
Right. And Sam.
Two handlers is one too many in this sort of situation and he doesn’t have an order of importance. He’s big, but he’s not big enough to shield the two of them effectively. He’ll find a way. He always does.
Is that the Winter Soldier?
They’ve been noticed. Baron Zemo, Conrad Mack, and the Winter Soldier. Enough names to make heads turn. He understands a bodyguard needs to be close.
There are two exit routes that he can currently see. The one they just came in from, which would be complex if the crowd turns against them and bars the exit. He can probably make a way for them. Possible, if not for the stray bullets. How big the casualties would be is unknown. The other option is a door behind the main bar. What lies behind it is unknown, but he will take corridors and close quarters over crowded bar. Less space for the unknown. Easier to shield both men.
He keeps one ear on the conversation - mostly on the inflection of tones in their voices - and settles against the bar. He starts his radar watching their immediate surroundings. 23 guns he can see, 21 knives, 15 people watching, 5 actively talking about them, 3 in English, 2 in what sounds like Bahasa Malaysia, or perhaps Bahasa Indonesia.
And then Sam gets distraught about something. Bucky watches him drink a very suspicious looking shot under Zemo’s amused eyes. That one’s enjoying this too much. Bucky feels a sneer coming up to his face but he doesn’t move a muscle. Not the place to show open animosity towards his handler.
And then the first man comes.
You ain’t welcome here.
Threat against Zemo. Bucky forces himself not to roll his eyes. Of course he’s not welcome. Fucking hell. They’re gonna have to fight their way through this, because Zemo walked them right into the fucking lion’s mouth.
There’s a chat, it doesn’t know anywhere. The “Power Broker” is a hilarious name. Cocksure assholes, all of them.
And then… it shifts. From the corner of his eyes, he sees a whispered conversation between the first man and a bigger man, tall and large and obviously a strong arm. Bucky shifts. Sam seems to have noticed the change as well. Zemo is still chatting with the bartender, despite the threat. Bucky knows better than to believe he’s oblivious.
When Zemo’s eyes meet his - dark, intense, sharp and somehow both commanding and questioning -, Bucky nods.
The Russian order wraps around his mind. The man’s hand never touches the handler’s expensive coat.
The crowd parts for him, makes space for him. The man’s wrist bones are crushed to dust by the time he stops walking him to the center of the room. He switches hands, holds out his left arm and sends it flying into the man’s collarbones at full power. The man is on the ground, screaming. Shattered collarbone.
He has the time to take a breath and turns around. A second, younger, darker-haired man launches himself at him, right hand closed into a fist. He sidesteps, wraps his right arm around the man’s, and sends his left punching hard in between the man’s shoulder blades, keeping his right arm straight.
The man bends in half and he strikes him in the chest. The man’s hood falls over his head. Another hit on the back of the neck. He pulls him back, forces him to stumble backwards and kicks him hard in the chest, the full power of his enhanced legs behind him. There was a third man getting ready to join the fray behind the second, but the kick takes care of the both of them.
Out of several people behind a coffee table, one gets up, stepping onto the table to join the open circle where he’s now fighting. He drops to the ground, swipes his right leg out, breaking the table’s leg and sending the guy balancing on it down. As soon as he lends, he’s welcomed by a hard kick in the chest.
The guy might not get back up. He doesn’t have time to check.
When he turns back to where the handler and the other are, he sees the handler’s hand on the back of a man’s coat. And suddenly, number 5 is shoved towards him. Knife in right hand. He shifts. The knife hits a few centimeters to the right of where his prosthetic is anchored in his flesh, against vibranium.
He feels the shock slightly, hears the scraping of metal against metal, sees the man’s eyes widen in fear as he realizes that he hasn’t managed to hit the soft, tender, sensitive part where flesh and metal meet. Of course he failed. The new arm is set further in than the old one was.
A knife has been brought out. A weapon. After that, there’s no holding back.
Men fall around him like flies, his body moves without thought. It’s brutal, it’s violent, it’s perfect. He doesn’t think. He acts.
Didn’t take much for him to fall back into form.
The words bloom warm into his chest. Pride.
He’s squeezing down on the first man’s throat, choking him in a familiar motion, when a hand lands on his prosthetic. Someone’s holding him back. He almost growls at that until he hears the familiar voice.
Zemo whispers to Sam to stay in character.
“Отлично, солдат.”
The Russian wraps around him again but this time, it feels like so many things Bucky feels nauseous. There are guns being cocked, whispers, machines, stares on him, lights, it’s overwhelming. It’s too much. It feels like there’s a large, too bright, stage light shining on him.
There are hands on him. Sam’s hand has left his left arm. Those are Zemo’s hands, both of them. One on his shoulder blade and one on his stomach, on the soft, tender underside. Steadying. Not holding him back. Steadying him.
And then it’s done. He lets go of the man. They have made a nice enough display. Successful. Prideful. He made the handler happy. Fuck off . He has no reason to make Zemo happy. He made Sam worry, and that’s worse.
Sam doesn’t need more worry. He doesn’t need that. That was the whole fucking point of Bucky not answering his texts for three fucking months. That Sam wouldn’t have to worry about him. And now he does, and he’s seen him.
He’s seen the Winter Soldier. Worse. He’s seen Bucky. Because there were no codewords, no chair, no coercion. He did it. He did it. It’s disgusting and horrifying and Sam might as well call the army now and tell them to throw him back into the Raft and throw away the key.
The adrenaline is still buzzing through him and he could go for hours more. This was an easy fight. This was the best fight he’s had in a fucking decade.
“You good?”
Fuck off, fuck off, fuck off, no. No, i’m not good, no, I can’t do this, take me away, fuck, fuck I can’t do this.
He has to do this. He has to go through this. Because it’s necessary. It’s what he has to do to get the information they need so there aren’t more supersoldiers than there needs to be. And that number is zero. Fuck. Fuck, it’s bad.
He would be shaking if he didn’t have absolute control over his body at that moment.
He nods. Sam might not buy it. There’s no time for therapy right now.
