Getting Stuff Done With (Not Despite) Your Child

Getting Stuff Done With (Not Despite) Your Child
I Didn’t Enter Into Motherhood Gracefully
It finally happened. 15 months. I had time. Not long. Just a few minutes where I could do whatever I wanted.
And you know what happened? I hadn’t a clue what to do with myself!
If I’ve learned anything since my son was brought into this world, it’s that I have to give myself a lot of grace. I’m not very good at that. I want to be SuperMom and somehow anything short of that makes me feel guilty.
I want to keep a perfectly neat and tidy home. (The true disillusion is thinking I really did this even BEFORE beginning my parenthood journey!)
I want to have energy to do the 272 projects on my list, including sewing, and crafting, and learning new skills.
I want to invest in all my family and friendships and have a freezer meal prepped for every occasion and be able to give my time. The saying, “It’s the thought that counts” has never meant more to me than it does in this phase of life.
The truth is, my house is a mess. The dogs don’t get the same attention they did before my son was born, granted now that he’s old enough, they get love from my son too. I am not the greatest or most present friend these days. I’m not as helpful at get-togethers as I used to be. I feel tired and unmotivated often, especially in the evenings after my baby boy is asleep.
It IS Getting Easier
All this to say, I can look back to this time last year or even six months ago and realize that it is getting easier. Putting it all in perspective, this is just a phase, and chances are I will be able to accomplish more this time next year than I can right now…just as I can do more now than I could with a three month old.
However, the fact remains, I can never go back, so trying to accomplish things in the same way I used to probably isn’t a realistic approach. How I get things accomplished is definitely morphing and, from what I can tell by observing my friends with multiple children, a skill to be learned and perfected over time.
My Little Helper
I’m trying to have the attitude of doing things with my son, rather than despite him being around.
Here is one example. Instead of waiting for him to go to sleep to switch out a load of laundry, I simply include him in the task. Sure it takes longer, but it’s actually made the task much more enjoyable, and the bonus is I get to teach my son life skills, which is as important to his development as learning his colors and shapes.
It’s actually really cute. I open the dryer and washer doors and hand him the clean, damp laundry a few at a time and he puts them in the dryer for me. Then he closes the doors to both and to the laundry room (sometimes not before pushing all the dinging buttons) as well.
Still Figuring it Out
Other tasks are more difficult, like doing dishes. I haven’t figured that one out yet, although now when I am prepping the food for dinner, I put him on a step-stool so he can watch. He also has taken on the role of taste-tester while doing this. I got this idea from a friend (who is such a graceful mother) and it has changed how soon I can get dinner on.
So, that’s where we’re at 15 months. As always, our ever-changing family is a beautiful work in progress.
What about you?
How has parenthood changed how you do things?

I FOUND YOU OMG
ok so like, when I first joined tumblr… 4 or 5 so years ago (holy heck how has it been so long) and was still so shy that I didn’t even reblog anything for fear of drawing attention, I followed a lot of lotr and silmarillion blogs. Out of all of them, you were my fav, I think I actually scrolled down your entire blog one time liking everything lmao.
Anyway you went inactive for a bit and I migrated to a new blog and so for two and a half years you passed out of all knowledge unTIL about a week ago I was looking through silmarillion stuff and I was trying to remember what your blog was called and couldn’t and was :(
But then!! I’ve been browsing the Rings of Power tag and saw a post of yours and honestly it’s made all the agony of looking at ROP stuff worth it
So uhhhh idk how fascinating this is to you but I just thought it might interest you to know that you once had a young fan that remembers you to this day :)
!!! oh hi!
yeah, that sounds like me agshdjfg because I think this blog was very active for a bit over 1.5 years, and then in december 2018 i started hyperfixating on good omens, which then transitioned into a the magnus archives hyperfixation in may 2020. so even though (to put it a bit dramatically (but accurately agsgdf)) lotr remains the actual cornerstone of me as a person, I've been more active on my main for a while now
but oh my gosh, this story is so exciting to hear!! and I'm absolutely flattered that I was a favourite and that you were happy to find me again 🥰 thank you for sending this message, it made my day!

Why I Hate Electronics
In the old days we had ms-dos and had to fiddle with config.sys and himem.sys spending endless hours and sleepless nights trying to get the computer to run a program. Computers have come a long way since windows 95 but using them certainly hasn’t gotten any easier. I remember wondering back then why they couldn’t make a computer that actually worked, that actually figured out how to make itself work and work with other programs and devices…after all, it is a computer, isn’t it? No, instead they just get more complicated and mystifying. Now its modems and routers and ethernets and wifi that drive me crazy, and trying to cope with constant buffering when I try to watch Netflix. Who the hell can remember which remote to use to access the right button? And when you do find the right remote to access your tv who can figure out how to get to whatever it is you need to fix? And how many fucking passwords can a person remember? And passwords have to be more complicated every year. I can barely use my phone, flipping from one screen to another with my finger. It seems the only way to get out of certain screens is to shut your phone off and restart it. And nobody tells you this stuff…you have to figure it out on your own. Ever read the Microsoft manual? Who does? Just looking at the pages makes me scream. And even when you go to Youtube they go so fast you have to pause it every two seconds to write that shit down. I have endless sheets of paper in a drawer filled with step-by-step instructions on how to do computer problems. Why? Why can’t computers do these things by themselves? The last time I lost my internet connection I got all excited when I discovered this thing on my computer that told me it would run a diagnostic of my system and troubleshoot it. Wow, that sounded great. When I went there and ran it it said “you have lost your internet connection.”
They say that computers can do everything, but they still haven’t given us a computer that can fix itself or even do something as simple as letting us plug it into a router without having to go through an eleven step process to get the damn thing to work. What pisses me off is that I know they could do this. I can’t even get my two wifi extenders to work. By some miracle I did get them to work for a while but one day they both just shut off and I haven’t been able to get them running since. I can’t get past the step where I’m asked for a password. It says I’m supposed to use the one on the back of the router. Well, what it says on the back of the router is “password: (leave the field blank)”. Except when I am asked for the password it won’t let me leave the field blank. Instead it says “your password is not long enough.” Then I’m told to go to my wifi icon on my taskbar to find out what the password is. But I don’t have a wifi icon on my taskbar. So I go online and find that there are pages on how to find and/or replace the wifi icon on my taskbar, and after going through all five of the different methods of finding and replacing that icon on the taskbar without success I learn that there is no way I’m gonna get that icon to appear on the taskbar because the Windows 10 system that came with my computer doesn’t come with a wifi icon on the taskbar; Microsoft removed that file in the latest version of Windows 10. I learn that I have to buy Windows 10 Pro to get that stupid wifi icon. Are you shitting me?
I finally did find an obscure site that explained a convoluted way to find out what your router and extender passwords were. You have to start with your command prompt to get there…but that didn’t help…surprise, those passwords there didn’t work either. And don’t even ask me how to go back there and look at those passwords again. It took me an hour to figure out how to get to my command prompt from my start menu. Hint: don’t left click like you’re used to doing. When you left click on the Start menu you are presented with a long and very impressive list of places to go, all in alphabetical order, and you would think that the “Command” prompt would be there under the “c” column. But no, there is nothing that says “Command Prompt”. No, you have to right click instead. You’ll find another list of places to go there. But even then there is nothing that says “Command Prompt.” You have to click on “run” for the command prompt to come up. There is a lot of shit you can do through the command prompt but nobody is going to tell you what the secret codes are that will allow you to do those things. It used to be easy to get to the command prompt. All you had to do was click on the “Start” button. But now they’ve decided to make this an hour-long quest to find it. I have all this shit written down on endless sheets of paper in that drawer. Truth be told this electronic world makes me tear my hair out. I hate it with a passion. What pisses me off even more is that I also love it…when it’s working.
I can’t even get my computer to recognize my own email address. I bought a new Dell desktop three years ago and still get a daily message saying that I need to fix a problem with my Microsoft account. So I periodically go through the process and change my password but no matter what I do I still get that stupid message. I even had Microsoft tech reps guide me through the process three times now yet I still get that same old message. And every time I try to access my Microsoft account I’m told “that email address is already used by a different account.” I deleted all my accounts and started over but the message still comes up…the problem remains. I’ve explained all this to those tech reps but nothing keeps that message from coming up. I even signed up for a different email address but that didn’t fix the problem either and now I have an extra “Outlook” email address that I never use and wouldn’t know where it is if I did want to use it. I think the problem started when I bought a new Dell laptop. I had to sign up for a Microsoft account then. But I didn’t care for the laptop and sent it back two days later and ordered the desktop…and now Microsoft still thinks that whoever owns that laptop has the rights to my email address and not me. I explained all this to those Microsoft tech reps but that didn’t solve anything either. Yeah, this stuff bothers me. I’m the kind of guy who doesn’t like loose ends. I like things to be neat and tidy and feel like everything is in its place. But this computer stuff feels all scattered and disconnected and just fucked up. I know it’s working on my mind even when I’m not struggling with it.
In order to fix my Netflix buffering problem (and my wife’s need to have internet access for her work-at-home job) I bought a new router. I’ve had the same old cheap router for 6 years so I figure its time for a new one. I did just buy a 40 ft ethernet cable that I plugged into the back of the router and ran it along the ceiling down the hall and into the back of the tv in the living room, but we’re still having problems with “Home not available” still coming up at times. I actually bought a new router last year; an Archer A7. But I was never able to get it to work so I had to send it back, thinking it must have been defective. I realize now that it probably worked just fine and that the problem was me…that I couldn’t figure out how to get it to work. Then I had a helluva time trying to get the old one up and running again. Did you ever feel that your brain was on fire and ready to burst? That was how I felt after struggling with those two routers for 3 days. So my new router came last week and it turns out it’s the same model; the same one I tried to set up and sent back last year. I thought it was a different one because it was called a Tp-link, but its actually an Archer A7 too. On the box it says it’s a AC 1900 and on the instruction sheet it also says it’s a MU-MIMO Wi-Fi Router, so just figuring out what these things are called is a science in itself. So now I’m frightened to death to even try to set it up. The first thing the instructions say is “if this” and “if that”…as if I know the answers to these ifs. There is also a long list of FAQs in case you have problems and need help. That scares the shit out of me, too, cause I know I’m gonna need help…and lots of it. Then it gives me three different methods of setting the thing up, all of them quite convoluted and requiring me to access various internet sites, SSIDs and wireless passwords. Then I have to go to a number url: 192.188.1.1 and I remember that this is where I had to go to get my extenders to work but I was never able to get those urls to come up. Then I found out that they only come up if you use Google Chrome, and of course there is nothing in the instructions that tells you you can only use Google Chrome. No, you have to find that out on your own too. So now I have to change my browser and come up with another password so I can access Google Chrome. I am so afraid that I will not be able to complete these steps correctly and that I will then have to struggle another two days to get my old router to work again that the new router is still sitting on a shelf two weeks later. I’m thinking that I should go to Best Buy and have the Geek Squad come and set up my router but I know I’ll have to listen to them explain their convoluted tech plan that will ask me to decide whether to get a one visit deal or buy a year subscription…and I know one visit will not fix all my loose ends. And it makes me wonder if that is the reason why computers intentionally aren’t made to fix things.
Oh, by the way, I’m sitting here writing all this down with my Microsoft Word, and now I find that I am unable to save what I’ve written because I don’t have a subscription to Word any more. I guess my free time is over. God, don’t you love it? You can’t even buy a computer with a simple word processor in it without having to pay a yearly fee to use it. Next thing you know somebody will figure out how to put a chip under your skin that measures how many breaths you take so they can charge you for the air you breathe.
Dear Lord, if reincarnation is real please let me go to a world that is either before computers or way beyond computers. Or better yet, where computers and routers and extenders actually use a computer so they can work together.

Simply add your file and check out. If it does not work for your file, please tell us so we can add an MP3 converter for you. No. CDA files are index information that tell a pc (or different gadget) the place on the CD the information for a selected monitor is saved. Attempting to transform a CDA file without the disk is like attempting to make a copy of a ebook out of the library index card - the card is not the book, it simply tells you where to look for it. There might be times when the audio between two totally different codecs varies. Free CD to MP3 Converter has taken this under consideration by means of the addition of an audio normalisation function. This works automatically to stabilise the sound between two or more sources. So, the user will no longer have to make manual changes after the conversion process has been accomplished. Freemake Audio Converter converts most non-protected audio formats: MP3, AAC, M4A, WMA, OGG, FLAC, WAV, AMR, ADTS, AIFF, MP2, APE, DTS, M4R, AC3, VOC, etc. Transcode several music information at once. All modern codecs are included: AAC, MP3, Vorbis, WMA Pro, WMA Lossless, FLAC. Select to rip an Audio CD, click on "Next". It will switch the program into the CD ripper mode. These files are located in the listing of the CD and might solely be accessed if the CD is still inserted in the PC. Every file has a measurement of forty four bytes and is represented in the directory utilizing the naming convention Monitor##.cda, the place ## depicts the observe number. I hardly ever use Home windows Media Participant. I have model 12. I adopted the instructions for ripping selecting Instruments>Options> Rip Music as I modified the output towav (lossless) and then clicked the Apply button then clicked the OK button however nothing occurs. It could possibly join CDA recordsdata to 1 huge AAC, ALAC, FLAC, WAV, M4A, M4B, MP3, OGG or WMA. Step 2Insert CD and wait your laptop to recognize it. Home windows Media Participant ought to routinely learn the CD and present the audio track and predominant information of it. Switch is our favourite audio converter software, and it is also accessible as a cell app for Android units. It is suitable with greater than forty enter and output file sorts and CDA to MP3 Ripper has a batch conversion feature that runs in the background while you use other apps. It means that you can preview tracks earlier than you exchange them, and all the music tags are preserved within the conversion process. Step 4: Insert the audio CD, after which find Rip CD possibility on the top. Select Do not copy proper safety to your music and tick the terms. Click on OK to begin the process. As soon as you've got ripped the file as an MP3, you can simply convert it to a WAV file using the free program Audacity. When you have shortcuts, you may must get the CD so as to have something to convert to MP3. iTunes can rip CDs and encode them to MP3s. Now here are just a few easy steps that makes converting audio and video files stress free. Should you do not have already got RealPlayer put in on your pc, click on the orange button below to get download in your device then follow the steps to transform files. It's important for audio converter software to work quickly and efficiently in addition to to have a wide variety of file format choices, including lossy and lossless formats. Each music streaming service has a most popular format for streaming and archiving music - unfortunately, not each service uses the identical format. WAV is an acceptable lossless format for many services. Nonetheless, depending on the service, that file is perhaps converted and compressed to a different format. MP3 files will be uploaded to all the favored streaming companies, however there is no motive to convert a lossless file format, resembling WAV, to MP3 if you don't have to. Just load up the audio recordsdata you want to convert (both by file or folder), or enter the URL for an internet file, select the Codecs tab to select an output format, and click on Begin conversion to convert the files. In Windows Media Participant, click on on Arrange to convey down the drop-down menu, then click on on Options. Step 3Insert your CD to CD drive. Click the "CD" icon when iTunes detects it, you'll be able to will all available CD observe might be show in the interface. Highlight and mark the containers of tracks you need to transfer to iTunes library, and click "Import CD" button.
A file with the extensioncda is shortcut to a track on an audio CD on an ordinary Pink E-book" CD-DA format audio CD. These information are proven in the directory for the CD being seen within the format Monitor##.cda, where ## is the variety of every particular person monitor. Thecda files don't include the actual PCM sound wave knowledge, but instead tell the place on the disc each track starts and stops. If the file is copied" from the CD to the computer, it turns into useless as a result of it is only a shortcut to part of the disc. Nonetheless, some audio converter, audio modifying and CD creation programs will, from the user's perspective, loadcda recordsdata as if they are precise audio information files, and allow the consumer to listen to them and even convert the copiedCDA files to MP3, WAV, WMA, FLAC, and so forth. On the progress window of CDA to MP3 Ripper (CDA to MP3 Converter), you'll be able to pick what the computer ought to do after the conversion. The default setting is to Do nothing. Tips and advice regarding the net copyright registration of audio information. We strongly recommend using the downloadable audio converter applications in our comparability, like Change or Audials Tunebite , to make sure your files aren't at risk. Utilizing a desktop software utterly removes the concern of knowledge privacy as a result of the file never leaves your pc until you want it to. We downloaded each program we examined and noticed no indicators of adware or additional malicious software program within the downloaded file.

welcome to the first episode of THE BLOGCHELOR starring me !
this has been in production for MONTHS and i am here to deliver for mutuals and non - mutuals alike , this is FREE TO JOIN FOR ALL . i will be doing this fortnightly or monthly ( depending on my schedule ) with at least 5 BLOGS reviewed for however way they will take my perspective to improve and grow for the better. feel free to take it or leave it.
THE RATING WORKS ON THE RANGE OF 5 / 5: with 1 as has so much room for potential and improvement , 3 as passable and your blog works as functionally and practically as it should , and 5 as with flying colors that your blog works but with good extras. READ FULL CRITERIA DESCRIPTION HERE.
01. @msscre . fandomless oc by pax.
ACCESSIBILITY / NAVIGABILITY. ★★★★★ With this kind of theme having maximum number of 4 links , I like how the first thing your blog immediately showed me is the links because the boxes and font color just pops out. You did what you can with limited url slots and the navigation page for everything makes it easier for everyone to browse through since they’re all redirected pages. ➤ GENERAL ADVICE FOR EVERYONE : In my opinion , it’s better to have a good balance and choice of usage between redirected pages and custom pages. Too much use of custom pages for the aesthetic can be annoying for a potential partner browsing your blog because most people just want to read your content and not to be kept redirected to different pages , especially if they’re incoherent with no uniform choice of design. Worst combo to send your potential partners away since they can also feel lazy not to read your content. Yes , people do that and it’s not their fault since the human brain has limited attention span. Too much redirected pages works if you want simple , straightforward navigation but it wouldn’t hurt to add a little flair sometimes. This flair can be from the custom page and redirected page mix usage or from how your content is formatted too.
VISUAL IMPACT / AESTHETICS. ★★★★ Absolutely love the consistency in your theme color palette ! Neutrals and red as highlights is a good duo. Everyone is entitled to their own tastes of their representation and interpretation of their muses , though might I suggest that the color of your highlights be a little lighter ? The theme and fonts are neutrals and dark , so it will help the eyes adjust and find the emphasised content you’re aiming to be read if your highlights are light or medium light so not to deviate with the theme’s aesthetic. However , I don’t feel your font for the header though ... seems a bit off for me but it’s just a difference between preferences , no biggie. ➤ GENERAL ADVICE FOR EVERYONE : It’s always good to have a good choice of what font goes with what. In my case I use a lot of font sizes and properties to complement the theme with the format or the actual font used. Usually I do cursive and straight combination , not one over other overpowering each other. Google Fonts with html codes and stuff is your best friend.
SUBSTANCE / INFORMATIVE. ★★★★ Good info on the biography and verses since they have whatever pumps the blog alive. I don’t know if it’s in your intentions but a PERSONALITY section is good too in supporting your psychological evaluation stats page since mostly , numbers don’t really make sense to humans. They’re more of the qualitative type , makes it easier for them to understand if you link those numbers to words of brief description of your muse’s behavior and attitude. This is especially crucial for OCs to have as one of my preferences so I’ll know if our muses can clash for fun or just clash without sense ... you can gauge what an interaction can be just by reading the other’s personality section and see how it helps with the plotting and relationship dynamic.
READABILITY / LEGIBILITY. ★★★★ The colour of the highlights is what I’ve said earlier but overall , the font colors are good since I can read them.
BRANDING / WOW FACTOR. ★★★★★ The mysteriousness with the PERSONALITY section gone can be a pro and con sometimes and since I read your about page , there’s suspense in how you came up with her name because it’s really thought - evoking. I associate your muse with a greek figure and it gives me something to think about especially as it can help me pinpoint a plot for us , if ever. I also appreciate the stats page like they’re very unique with some stats I’ve never seen before so it makes up for the substance as well. There’s visual - spatial intelligence , etc. which makes your muse unique due to that analysis. Little details matter.
02. @jollynephilim . supernatural’s jack kline by dipper.
ACCESSIBILITY / NAVIGABILITY. ★★★★ Might enhance a bit with positioning since some of the links are scattered on top of the side header WHO IS IN CONTROL which makes it hard for me to ignore in a visual - wise focus. You can also experiment by using other symbols or images since the links are eye - catching due to animation.
VISUAL IMPACT / AESTHETICS. ★★★ I’ve been very familiar with this kind of theme since I am guilty of being tempted to use the same , although this one has become mainstream so I am very used to seeing the same formula over and over again. Something new might be good or an innovation of the original theme though it doesn’t mean you should sell your soul to photoshop or html masters. The background edit is well - appreciated since it blends with the dark color palette you chose. You can make your theme a little bit refined with the bars by changing their gray rose ( ?? ) background to something continuous since the way I view it on my browser , I can see where the background picture of the bars started and ended. ➤ GENERAL ADVICE FOR EVERYONE : Being continuous and blending are two elements useful in visually enhancing one’s blog. It shows unity and consistency. Be careful in integrating too much of the links or headers in the background because it can get to the point that it’s annoying to find or read through bleeding colours of the theme and other factors.
SUBSTANCE / INFORMATIVE. ★★★ Love the profile , brief and concise. Can do something more with adding a few rare info that will make your Jack stand out from others ... Nevertheless , I like how informed I am with the BACKGROUND since for someone who hadn’t caught up with Supernatural , it works.
READABILITY / LEGIBILITY. ★★★★★ Readable. However the highlight color concerns me since it doesn’t complement the background color palette because the blue sticks out , but other than that , it works.
BRANDING / WOW FACTOR. ★★★ Add a bit more on the info and finding a selling point on a BRAND that will classify your Jack as their own. Like putting out something new that will make your muse distinguishable from other duplicates. Additionally , I’ve seen your threads or opens and they are very intriguing since they give rise to questionable exploration of sensitive topics , which is good since it’s a different approach to Jack’s character.
03. @kidhnter . supernatural’s claire novak by heather.
ACCESSIBILITY / NAVIGABILITY. ★★★★ Everything is accessible except the ask box. Hopefully you can fix the codes for that.
VISUAL IMPACT / AESTHETICS. ★★★★ I’ve been guilty in trying the same formula in themes , but you get a star instead of three for bonus in using a complementary color palette. However it gives me the signal that it’s playing too safe so you might like to consider using dark or light shades of one font color if one color is your drift. The black starry header sticks out for me , and you can edit it to even or level out the gradient since it seems cut off in the middle in my view. Being continuous and consist are qualities in keeping an aesthetic alive.
SUBSTANCE / INFORMATIVE. ★★★ Fun facts or trivias are really appreciated since I use the same formula depending on which muse I have , so I really like that cute bit. But I can’t give an overall review since your page is still incomplete which is totally understandable. ➤ GENERAL ADVICE FOR EVERYONE : One of my biggest pet peeves that turn me off is when people have blogs but don’t have much in their pages. I understand that they haven’t found the time to complete them because real life comes first , but at least give me a little information especially if I don’t know your muse and I’m not too interested to look them up in my search bar , sorry. I’d rather read someone’s writing that’s not copy pasted from wikia than actually reading on wikia because it gives me an insight on how this person writes. Do they focus on content and details ? Do they write in purple prose or straightforward ? Things like that are analysed whenever I read someone’s about pages. Usually before I release a blog out in the wild , I complete my pages as soon as possible with deliberate planning because I don’t want to advertise an EMPTY blog.
READABILITY / LEGIBILITY. ★★★★★ Very readable since everything is organised and categorised through the theme’s menu and aesthetic appeal plus function.
BRANDING / WOW FACTOR. ★★★★★ Gold and black makes a statement , take advantage of that color scheme and remember the starry background of your bars. I love the BIKER BARBIE bit because it has its charismatic appeal and different format on how usually people do that. BIKER BARBIE brand is iconic for claire and I can see where you’re coming from , but from an analytic perspective , it’s also a clash of character for claire but harmoniously it works out. Good job , makes it easy for me and very distinguishable to remember your brand that makes me think that Ah , this is the BIKER BARBIE claire.
04. @crackedfaith . supernatural’s castiel by vix.
ACCESSIBILITY / NAVIGABILITY. ★★★★★ Very thought out due to the number of links and the flow of the story of your blog through the order of the links. ➤ GENERAL ADVICE FOR EVERYONE : Content is not the only thing you should plan writing for. The moment you have the blog is the same moment you’ve already started writing your interpretation which is seen in the way you presented your blog through graphic edits , links , pages , etc. Content is not the only thing that tells your character’s story , your blog does too and that’s why it’s important to pay attention to details.
VISUAL IMPACT / AESTHETICS. ★★★★ This theme sure as hell takes your time coding so I really appreciate and love how you made it your own. I feel , because I used the same theme in different occasion and it’s a pain to code but totally worth it. I love the colours very much ... They give an outer - worldly vibe but at the same time , very much Castiel. ➤ GENERAL ADVICE FOR EVERYONE : Visual impact and aesthetics may affect your branding and people’s impression of you and your muse , but it does not define you. Always remember that. It does give identity though so like I said , pay attention to even the tiniest details because you never know who reads your blog. Visual impact and aesthetics also affect readability levels , take note of that one since overly coded and overly aesthetic blogs can repel writers who can’t read shit due to lots of glitters on the blog and all other many stuff going on that they can’t understand.
SUBSTANCE / INFORMATIVE. ★★★ Since you haven’t completed your about and verses pages , I cannot say it works but I appreciate that the guidelines are already set. Very , very critical piece to put in the blog because it is what dictates if you will write or will you not write with others.
READABILITY / LEGIBILITY. ★★★ Don’t know if you can change the font but as much as if you can , do it. The main chubby font works on the container but it doesn’t work on the sidebar. I had to squint my eyes to make out the words because of the heavily color gray. Try using lighter shades for font color and other styles as well. Google Fonts is your best friend.
BRANDING / WOW FACTOR. ★★★★★ Very iconic. GRACE/LESS tagline is such a catch for me , it’s really great. The background also has an impact on me because it reminds me of the cosmos , of the time of The Fall scene , and I love how you incorporated the sense of falling in your graphics.
05. @sanguinebite . van helsing’s verona by demi.
ACCESSIBILITY / NAVIGABILITY. ★★★★★ On the side and easily seen. Clean cut , just pops out next to sidebar.
VISUAL IMPACT / AESTHETICS. ★★★★ Can do a bit more with the font used on the sidebar and its format. I love Times New Roman and its use in this theme. Maybe try experimenting with shades of black and gray and consider giving other colors a chance for highlights so people can see what you’re emphasising through bold , italic properties. Other than that , overall theme is a choice that works. The cursor is cute and the edit on the sidebar photo looks cool , so extra points for those two.
SUBSTANCE / INFORMATIVE. ★★ Kind of empty , but the rules are established so that’s appreciated. It helps that I know your muse but what if other people don’t know ? I suggest doing a temporary info scribbles on the pages or just a simple TBA / WIP.
READABILITY / LEGIBILITY. ★★★★ Readable , I don’t have to squint so much so that’s a good thing. It depends on the device used about the font size , but try making the font size a bit bigger for the body since it’s too small for me.
BRANDING / WOW FACTOR. ★★★ Older than Rome itself holds great potential to immortality vibes of branding material , it’s a good tagline I like. Maybe you can link your muse to a roman figure and create a brand from there. Qualities also help you think about a good brand as well as your muse’s history. Who or what reminds you of your muse ? What can you take from there and make it your own ?

Windows On Mac :: Installed Parallels Desktop Coherence - Taskbar Keeps Disappearing
Sep 21, 2010
OK, so in July I returned to Apple with the purchase of the MacBook (modified bliss on that front) and I have now splurged the extra bucks for the new Wireless Mighty Mouse. Learn how to change the double-click and scrolling speed of your Apple Magic Mouse, Apple Magic Trackpad, or the built-in trackpad on your Mac. In Apple Support Communities. See all questions on this article See all questions I have asked Apple. Adjust double-click and scrolling speed of your mouse or trackpad. More ways to. Home Forums > Parallels Desktop for Mac > Windows Guest OS Discussion > HELP, having issues with mouse/pointer in AutoCAD running in parallels Discussion in ' Windows Guest OS Discussion ' started by Evan_T21, Sep 20, 2013. I know this isn't really related to what this forum does, but I don't know where else to look for help. I bought a new computer (HP notebook G62) and the mouse is off by 1/4 inch. If this has already been posted, I appologize. I did search this forum first. It seems that my Parallels always is 'losing' the mouse. It is specifically bad within Internet Explorer but happens in other windows within Parallels as well. How can I calibrate a joystick on a Mac? Ask Question. How can I emulate keyboard and mouse commands with a game controller? How do I calibrate a Gamecube controller? How to charge my PS3 SixAxis controller? Can't calibrate generic usb gamepad right thumb.
Yesterday, I have downloaded Parallels Desktop to my Macbook Pro, and my brother brought a CD of Windows 7 to install there. At first, in the coherence mode, the taskbar was working amazingly until I turned off my computer. When I turned it back on, Windows 7 started to run, and the taskbar started to disappear and reappear after awhile. Then I restarted Parallels, then the taskbar completely disappeared. I have tried to modify its settings, and it still didn't work. So, I changed the coherence mode to window one, the taskbar was there. And then I changed it back to coherence, it disappeared again. What should I do to get it back in the coherence mode?
Windows On Mac :: Mouse In Parallels With Two Cursors
May 8, 2007
I've never used Parallels, but my girlfriend has it on her iMac. I installed Theme Hospital for her but when you try to play it the mouse goes absolutely crazy, flying from edge to edge. When I put Parallels in a window I could see what was happening. There were two cursors on screen; the Theme Hospital one and another one. Whenever the other (normal XP style) one hit and edge of the window the Theme Hospital one would jump to there, and then they'd swap around a bit when I moved it back. Also, is there an easier way to put Parallels in a window? The only way I know so far is to drop the resolution from standard in XP, then press cmd+Q and cancel.
Hardware :: Mighty Mouse Pointer Stopped Responding / Green Light On Bottom Of Mouse Flashing
May 1, 2009
I know that the general consensus here is that the Mighty Mouse is a piece of shit. That notwithstanding, I'd appreciate posters refraining from engaging in further elaborations on that concept when replying to this topic (i.e., no comments like 'Buy a new mouse,' please). At any rate, I purchased a wireless Mighty Mouse about a month ago and was very happy with it until the batteries apparently died. One day the pointer simply stopped responding and the green light on the bottom of the mouse was flashing. I replaced the batteries and the mouse resumed normal operation. Then, a few days later it happened again. I have yet to re-replace the batteries and have reverted to using my now eight-year-old Logitech dual-optical mouse (possibly the finest peripheral I have ever owned). Has anyone else encountered this issue? Is this mouse having internal hardware or software issues or is it normal for it to devour batteries at this rate? System Preferences says that Bluetooth is maintaining the connection properly, so I am ruling that out as an issue. I would just say to hell with it, and use my Logitech mouse full-time, but my wife hates it and I payed seventy goddamn dollars for the Apple product.
Windows On Mac :: Wireless Keyboard & Mouse Recommendation For OS X - Parallels - Bootcamp?
Nov 19, 2009
I am looking for a wireless keyboard/mouse to replace my current USB wired to fulfill the following requirements: 1) Must Work with OS X, Bootcamp and Parallels. 2) Work with Windows XP (currently) and Windows 7 in future. 3) Whatever wireless technology, I only want ONE receiver for both KB and mouse. 4) bluetooth or NANO or other 5) Keyboard MUST be high contrast (example-black keys/white letters). This precludes current Apple keyboard. 6) Would like NOT to mix and match brands.
IMac :: Mouse Pointer Moves By Itself?
Mac Cursor
Aug 26, 2008
I just got my iMac, and I have a problem with mighty mouse. Sometimes, when I move the mouse just a little, the pointer will 'jump' to one side of the screen... it's very frustrating. Is it due because my mousepad has different colours on it ? That's my only explanation. Maybe the mousepad different colours cause reflection on the pointer that make it jump all over the screen...
MacBook Pro :: How To Use Black Mouse Pointer
Jun 30, 2009
The story behind it - I used it a bit at home, connected to the AC adapter, then closed it and put it in a laptop bag (quite tight on both sides - like a sleeve [you have to slide the computer out - it doesn't open]). Then it was in the bag for 10-15minutes, I took it out, opened it up and this came up! (while it was like this, I could see the black mouse pointer and move it about just fine) I did a hard restart, and then everything was fine.
OS X :: Icons Get Stuck To Mouse Pointer
Jul 18, 2010
Sometimes, if I click an icon (usually on my desktop) it'll just 'stick' to the mouse pointer, it'll appear as if I am still clicking and holding the icon, and it drags around. I also can't trash, drop or do anything with it. Other programs on the computer can't be used either because it's still using that icon. I'm forced to use keyboard commands to restart Finder or press the 'esc' key, which works until I click any other icon again. This happens with text and pictures also.
Mac Mini :: How To Change Mouse Pointer

OS X :: Icons Stick To Mouse Pointer But Won't Drop
Apr 23, 2010
Somehow I can't drag and drop files/programs/icons any more. Not on my desktop, not within my dock. When I click on an icon to drag, it will stick to my mouse pointer, but only as a ghost. When I try to release it, it won't drop to the designated area or folder. The icon just keeps sticking to my mouse pointer, where ever I take it. Only after using esc and clicking. I using Mac OS X 10.6.2 iMac iMac8,1 Intel Core 2 Duo 3,06 GHz
Hardware :: Mouse Pointer Freezing - Need To Unplug
Feb 7, 2010
I have a IMac G4 mod. Power mac4,2 operating system osx version 10.411 processor 800 MHz 768 MB SDRAM. Every now and then my mouse pointer freezers up and I have to unplug the mouse and it starts working again. If it does not unfreeze I have to restart. Then I am back in business. Some times the whole screen goes gray with a black square-telling me to shut down and restart.
Mac Pro :: Won't Work / Mouse Pointer Screen Freeze
Jun 14, 2008
I have just installed a new Mac Pro. Everything works except I get occasional mouse pointer freezes. They last for about 1 second each time and seem to occur randomly, on average with 1-2 min intervals. The only things I have installed on top of OS X so far driver wise is MouseWorks to power my Kensington trackball. I use my older large full-keyed white Pro keyboard and only use the smaller wireless one remotely. I have tried deactivating Bluetooth but the mouse freezes still persist.
IMac :: Mouse Pointer Out Of Control - Not Allow Clicks
Apr 27, 2009
Today I was working with my iMac without any problem, suddenly the mouse pointer start behaving very odd, when I tried to click an icon, menu or whatever the mouse start moving not allowing me do the work, I changed the wireless mouse suspecting was a hardware problem but when I connected the USB mouse I got the same problem, then I shutdown the iMac but after starting I got the same problem. I suspect is a trojan virus but I heard that Leopard operating system is very robust and virus is not currently a problem.
OS X Mavericks :: Mouse Pointer Not Always Changing On Mouseover
Sep 6, 2014
I have an issue with my mouse that started a few days ago. My cursor doesn't always change properly when I mouseover certain things. For example, when I hover it above a link, it turns into a pointing hand like it should, when I navigate to the URL bar, it will stay as the hand even after clicking for a short while before changing to what it's supposed to become (the thin bar.) Sometimes it will remain a thin bar when it's supposed to be a black arrow, and so forth. I've tried troubleshooting the issue, but I haven't found much of relevance. One user seemed to be experiencing the same thing albeit only in some pro software I don't use. Mine is system wide. I'm using the trackpad on a 2014 baseline 15' rMBP running Mavericks 10.9.4. Info: MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)
MacBook Pro :: Mouse Pointer Missing On The Screen?
Jun 29, 2014
I am using macbook pro 15' with latest Maverick OS.Lately, I find that after I log in, the pointer goes missing from the screen and as a result I am unable to click on any icon.I have tried plugging in a USB Mouse, mouse pointer again does not show on the screen. When I force switch off from the power switch, and switch on again I get the pointer. Some times I have to repeat the process.
IMac :: Mouse Pointer Tracking Speed Very Slow
Mar 17, 2009
I just opened my brand new 2009 24inch IMac! The Mouse pointer speed is very very slow. I adjusted the tracking speed to the fastest possible, but this is still under par. I typed my question in google and it directed me to download a program called 'Mouse Zoom' which was downloaded onto my... 'Desktop.' I didn't click the icon to run it because I am afraid of a virus. Is 'Mouse Zoom' safe to click on? Will it fix the problem, or is there an alternative to this issue? I cant imagine something so nice being crippled by something as simple as mouse speed.
MacBook :: Mighty Mouse Pointer No Longer Working?
May 6, 2009
I've been using my M Mouse successfully with my MacBook until recently when the Mouse Pointer no longer moves. The button does engage the dashboard and if I position the cursor using the MacBook trackpad, then the click function of the mouse does work. I have tried changing the batteries. It appears I am having a similar problem when I use a wired mouse. Just in case it's connected, I run Parallels and did recently upgrade Windows software.
Hardware :: Making Mighty Mouse Pointer Use More Precise?
Oct 31, 2009
I just made the switch to Mac. I just got the new macbook pro 15 inch. The only thing is that I bought it mainly for graphic design and I am struggling to use the might mouse. I feel like I have to work so hard just to get the mouse over the icon or tab that I want to select. When I was using a PC the mouse was so much more precise if I wanted to select something or click on something small it was easy. Is there a setting or something to make it easier on the mac using the mighty mouse?
Software :: On Clicking Icons Get Stuck To Mouse Pointer
Jun 24, 2009
Occasionally if I click an icon (usually on my desktop) it'll just 'stick' to my mouse pointer, it'll appear as if I am still clicking and holding the icon, and it drags around. I also can't trash, drop or do anything with it. Other programs on the computer can't be used either because it's still using that icon. I'm forced to use keyboard commands to restart Finder, which works until I click any other icon again.
MacBook Pro :: Remove The Green Circle On Mouse Pointer?
Mar 14, 2012
How do I remove the little green circle with a white plus tied to my mouse pointer Info: MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2010), iOS 5.1
OS X Mavericks :: Bluetooth Mouse Pointer Works But Can't Land Anywhere
Jun 5, 2014
It is happening more and more often: When I start my iMac the mouse pointer is moving normally but when I click on, say, Finder nothing happens, or when I click on the Dock nothing happens. It will not stay or land on any app. It is just hovering and nothing seems to be affected by the mouse pointer. I turn the mouse off and back on and it works fine. So it is an erratic behavior which baffles me. I have read numerous cases in the discussions and all point to a PRAM reset. Will a PRAM reset delete or revert modifications I have made to my iMac, such as disabling the startup sound, via sudo? I don't mind restarting the mouse but it is a hassle Info: iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9)
MacBook Pro :: Trackpad Keeps Bouncing The Mouse Pointer When Tap To Select
Sep 4, 2014
had problems with the trackpad - when I tap to select an item the mouse pointer 'bounces' off the item I'm trying to select. It happens randomly - not every time. I migrated all my data and settings from my old Mac Pro (2011 model, also running Mavericks) via Time Machine - could that have an impact? Not using any non-Apple power supplies or other devices. Info: MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.4)
OS X :: Mouse Pointer Converted Into Black Square After Sleep Mode
Jun 22, 2006
A bizarre thing: when I wake my Cube from sleep, the mouse pointer seems to have converted itself into a black 1' square. As soon as I click in a program it changes back to an arrow.
Software :: Mouse Pointer Freezes When Multiple Applications Are Open
Oct 16, 2008
My mouse continuously freezes when I have to many applications open. I have the mirror door G4. When it freezes I can access the F11 and F12 buttons on the keyboard, but have to restart the computer. I have switched the mouse, but it does not fix it. The more I use the computer the less it happens. It appears to happen more with multiple browser windows open in Safari.

How To Open A Mac Mouse For Battery Change
Mar 23, 2012
My mouse pointer disappears when still, if I open a webpage or app store the page drops to the bottom and I cant get back to the top with the mouse. I have tried six different mice (blue tooth and wireless including mac magic mouse) , all the same. Also when the sound is on and the system starts up there is a low buzzing sound until I move the mouse or open something up. Should I just restart the whole os as this is only one week old and I am over it already! Info: Mac mini, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

I have a 2008 Aluminum Body MacBook and recently its been working extremely slow. I always get the colorful circle thing on the mouse pointer every time I try to click on anything. Parallels Desktop 5 for Mac
Virtualization
Show More
When I last reviewed virtualization software in 2008, I found Parallels Desktop 4 for Mac effective, but saddled with a bit of bugginess and lacking some DirectX support. Parallels 5 Desktop for Mac (I tested build 9308) solves both problems, while adding features and improving performance.
Among the most notable of those new features: a much-faster virtualization engine; automatic compression of Windows’ hard disks; a new virtual machine manager; and a new lockdown mode, which requires a password to exit full screen mode, make changes to the virtual machine state, or manage snapshots (perfect for system administrators who don’t want end-users mucking up their machines).
Installation, setup
I tested Parallels Desktop 5 by using it to install Windows XP Pro, Windows 7 Ultimate (both 32-bit and 64-bit versions), and Ubuntu Linux 9.10 on my Mac Pro (2.66GHz quad core with 8GB of RAM, running OS X 10.6.2).
Installing both Windows and Linux is easy in Parallels; it has assistants that automate the process for both. It also installs Parallels Tools, which handles the task of mouse integration between the guest OS and Mac OS, as well as allowing easy guest desktop resizing by resizing the guest OS window.
There are a couple aspects of installing guest OSes that could be improved. First, every time you create a new virtual machine, Parallels creates an alias to that virtual machine on your OS X Desktop. There’s no way to avoid this, so if you find the aliases useless (as I do), you have to manually remove them each time you create a virtual machine.
More troubling is that, when creating a new Windows virtual machine, the default settings are for full integration of the Mac OS and the Windows guest—the default even sets the Windows’ user folder to the Mac’s Users folder. As someone who has personally experienced Windows malware infections, total integration is not something I recommend for most virtual machine users, and yet it’s the default behavior in Parallels.
Parallels also defaults to booting Windows virtual machines in the fully-integrated Coherence mode, where the Windows desktop vanishes, and Windows’ windows are intermingled with those of OS X. For someone expecting a standard Windows interface after installation, this can be disconcerting.
The basics
Like Fusion 3, Parallels 5 now supports Windows Aero in Windows 7, and also includes OpenGL 2.1 acceleration in both XP Pro and Windows 7 (Fusion only supports OpenGL 2.1 in Windows XP Pro). In addition, OpenGL acceleration is included in Linux guests, enabling full visual effects (such as windows that deform when dragged) in Linux systems such as Ubuntu 9.10. More usefully, you’ll also be able to run Linux programs that require OpenGL acceleration. Parallels is alone in its support for OpenGL 2.1 in Linux and Windows 7. I found the Aero effects worked very smoothly in Windows 7 on my Mac Pro.
As with its competitors, Parallels handles typical office productivity applications with ease, in both Windows and Linux. Microsoft Office (Windows) and OpenOffice (Linux) both ran well, and had no troubles with the mixture of spreadsheets and documents I tried opening and editing in both. Web browsers and e-mail clients also performed well; if this is the extent of your virtual machine needs, Parallels 5 will easily meet your requirements.
Parallels 5 was also the fastest of the three programs I tested in the vast majority of the benchmark tests I ran—including the all-important real-world tests. Whether it was copying files to or from the Mac, or expanding zip archives, Parallels easily outpaced its competition. As one example, copying 2.5GB worth of files from the Mac to a Windows 7 machine via a shared folder took just over a minute in Parallels. That same task took nearly two minutes in VirtualBox, and about a minute and a half in Fusion.
Suspending, waking, booting, and shutting down were all quickest in Parallels, too. There’s a small caveat there, at least with suspending. When I tried sleeping the machine while a 3D game was running, it worked, but the game didn’t work after waking from sleep. In Fusion, the same experiment worked just fine—so one tradeoff of the faster sleep time in Parallels is, at least in my testing, an inability to sleep and then resume a 3D game. As a user, you’ll have to decide whether the faster suspend times in general are worth this tradeoff when trying to suspend an in-progress 3D game. (This may not be an issue with all games, but it was in the two I tested with.)
Like Fusion 3, Parallels 5 offers improved multi-monitor support, treating two displays as separate monitors in Windows, and as one large gargantuan display in Linux. Adding a third screen to the mix worked perfectly in Windows. In Linux, however, the third screen was seen by the system (the horizontal resolution reflected its existence), but it was all white, and I couldn’t see anything that I dragged onto that screen.
To make working in full-screen mode easier, Parallels 5 lets you specify behaviors for mousing into the four screen corners—you can switch to one of the other available view modes, or show the Parallels menu bar. Once you’ve set a behavior for a corner, moving the mouse into that corner will “peel down” and reveal a bit of your OS X desktop. Unfortunately, there’s no visual indication of what happens if you then click the mouse, so you’ll need to remember which corner you’ve assigned to which task.
New looks for Windows
Parallels 5 features a new view mode, Crystal, along with a new Mac-like theme for use within Windows. Crystal view mode takes Coherence mode one step further. You won’t find the Start menu or task bar anywhere in Crystal mode—in fact, you won’t even see the Parallels Desktop icon in your Dock. Instead, a menu bar icon lets you change view modes, see the Windows Start menu, or work with attached devices. You’ll also find your task bar icons (optionally) in the menu bar, and Windows Applications folder in your OS X Dock. Any open windows will be integrated with your OS X windows, as in Coherence mode.
Crystal mode works reasonably well, though you can’t Command-Tilde to toggle between multiple windows of the same Windows’ application, nor can you use Snow Leopard’s Dock Exposé mode with Windows’ windows. Both of these features work as expected in Fusion. I also found that dragging windows around in Crystal mode, when using an Aero theme in Windows 7, was quite laggy on my Mac Pro. I had much better results after I disabled Aero in Crystal mode (you can control this in the virtual machine’s Settings).
I experienced some strangeness when I had Windows Media Player window open in Crystal mode, and then used Exposé’s All Windows mode. In addition to the opened windows, I also saw three “ghost” windows for Windows Media Player, and some visual distortion was visible in the Excel window.
Selecting any one of these “ghost” windows would simply switch to Windows Media Player, so it wasn’t a critical issue, but it definitely looks odd when using Exposé.
The second new look for Windows in Parallels is MacLook, which is actually an OS X-like theme for Windows (XP, Vista, and 7). You apply MacLook via the View menu, and Parallels then works for a minute or two to install the theme. The objective is to make Windows less visually shocking for someone switching between the Mac OS and the Windows OS.
While that’s the idea, I think MacLook fails fairly badly in achieving the goal.
Because not every element in Windows is themable, what MacLook winds up giving you is a series of different-looking windows within Windows—some look something like OS X windows, others look like native Windows windows, and still others look like some strange Frankenstinian mixture of the two.
Some windows are square, others are rounded; none seem to have shadows and some are missing edge borders; some have the red/yellow/green buttons from OS X at the top right, some at the top left, and others lack them completely.
I can’t imagine that anyone who likes and uses the OS X interface regularly will find MacLook to be an improvement over the stock Windows theme—at least there’s some consistency there, and the windows all mostly look the same.
When I unchecked the MacLook entry in the View menu, which should disable MacLook, I had some issues in Windows 7—the uninstall process didn’t quite complete, leaving an even odder mix of window appearances. I was able to resolve that issue by using the Personalization section of Windows preferences to pick a stock Aero theme.
Graphics and gaming
Parallels Desktop 5 has a very good engine for gaming. I had excellent results with older games, and very good results even with more-recent releases. The demo version of Call of Duty 4, which I was unable to run with decent frame rates in Fusion, ran acceptably (albeit at minimum levels of detail) after some tweaking in Parallels.
With OpenGL acceleration in all main versions of Windows (and Linux), Parallels can handle programs that the other two virtualization apps just aren’t capable of running at present. In addition, Parallels’ OpenGl implementation, as measured in the Cinebench benchmarking test, was the fastest of the three programs in any version of Windows. (All game tests were done in Windows 7, to stress the virtual machine as much as possible.)
Calibrate Mac Battery
Parallels also does an admirable job with DirectX games in Windows. For example, I was able to play the MotoGP 08 demo with good frame rates in a 1024x768 window, though the audio did stutter a bit.
More impressively, Microsoft Flight Simulator X, a program that just a few years ago required a high-end PC to run at all, ran admirably well in Parallels. The audio was mostly stutter free, and the frame rate in a 1024x768-sized window was more than acceptable in the missions I tested.
That’s not to say I was getting anywhere near the frame rate I’d get if I were to reboot my Mac and run Flight Sim X natively via Boot Camp. However, for someone who doesn’t need every bit of speed in their games, the loss in frame rate may be worth the convenience of not having to reboot.
Most older games run very well, so much so that there’s no reason to reboot via Boot Camp to play “vintage” titles. Note that some older games may need to run on older versions of Windows; Windows 7 won’t run all your older games.
Given what was possible in gaming and graphics with the first version of Parallels a few years back—basically nothing—it’s amazing how much progress has been made in a very short period of time.
Multimedia performance
To test Parallels’ media handling, I watched a 1080p Windows HD media file in full screen mode in each version of Windows. I was watching for visual glitches, listening for any disruption in audio playback, and tracking CPU usage to see how each virtual machine handled the task.
In short, all three of the Windows OSes handled the HD video file without any major issues. The one-CPU Windows 7 box had a bit more variation in frame rate than did the two-CPU machines, but it was very hard to spot unless watching the video back-to-back (which I did, many times).
Other features and observations
This version of Parallels cleans up the installation on a Mac—in prior versions, Parallels’ virtual network drivers were visible in the Network System Preferences panel. In Parallels Desktop 5, those drivers no longer appear, preventing possible user confusion.
Also new in Parallels 5 is support for Apple’ multi-touch gestures (swipe, rotate, pinch) using an Apple Magic Mouse or the trackpad in a multi-touch capable Apple laptop (you can also use an Apple Remote for some basic control, if you wish). Parallels Tools takes care of the communication between the mouse/track pad and the guest OS, so there are no special requirements on the Windows side—gestures simply work in Windows XP and newer.
I tested this using XP Pro on my MacBook Pro, and it worked as described. I was able to use pinch to zoom in/out on images in Microsoft’s Picture Viewer, and to change the size of the text on an Internet Explorer page. Rotation gestures also worked as expected on the images. If you’re a laptop or Magic Mouse user, this is a nice addition to your Windows virtual machines.
Mac Mouse Cursor
As you can probably tell from the features described in this review, Parallels is a feature-rich program. Sometimes, though, feature overload can lead to a complex user interface, and there are spots in Parallels where that’s the case.
Take the virtual machine Configuration panel, for instance, which contains 15 separate sections. Or the Preferences panel, which includes 11 separate tabs, some of which contain a large number of items that can be configured. While these sections and tabs are relatively well laid out, the sheer number of choices can cause confusion.
For example, you might think that defining how Mac and Windows 7 keyboard shortcuts coexist would be found in the virtual machine Configuration panel…but that’s not the case. Instead, you define the shortcuts in the Preferences panel, where you can set up definitions for Windows, Linux, OS X, and generic guests.

Royal Canin Hypoallergenic Food For Small Dog Reviews Pet dogs come in all sizes ranging from large to small ones. Majority of the dog recipes in the market target either puppies or larger adult and mature dogs. This leaves the small breed of dogs with having to do with food diets for either the larger breeds or the younger breeds. Finding the perfect recipe that caters for small size dog breeds is therefore a plus for pet owners with small dogs. Dogs of all breeds and sizes at one time or another suffer several health conditions caused by the kinds of foods they eat. Some of the ingredients cause allergies and Inflammatory Bowel Disease. To take care of these problems, pet owners turn to veterinary recommended dog food and the best diet a hydrolysed diet that contains a single protein source. In this article, we review one of the best-hydrolysed diets for small dogs, the ROYAL CANIN Hypoallergenic Food SMALL DOG. See also: [su_note note_color="#eff9de"] Royal Canin Chihuahua Dog Food Review Royal Canin Hydrolyzed Protein Dog Food Reviews [/su_note] Why use Hydrolysed Food Diet? Before we look at one of the best-hydrolysed protein diets and its list of ingredients, it is important to understand why a hydrolysed diet is important for the dog. Many studies show that the major causes for allergies in dogs are their diets. Most of the diets contain proteins that play a big part in the functioning of the organs, arteries, tendons and glands. Proteins also help in repairing tissue damage and in the removal of toxins from the bodies. Majority of the proteins in the diets contain Amino Acids that come as larger molecules. When they are in this state, the amino acids most likely cause allergic reactions and abdominal discomforts in dogs that lead to symptoms that range from vomiting, diarrhoea, lack of appetite, fatigue, loss of hair and many others. This is where hydrolysis comes into play. Hydrolysis is simply the act of splitting the proteins into smaller digestible molecules. The hydrolysis process involves the addition of water to break down the larger amino acids into smaller molecules. The immune system of the dog adjusts to the smaller protein molecules thus stopping the allergic reactions. When introducing hydrolysed proteins to the dogs, the idea is to try something different from what the dog was taking before. The concept of using hydrolysed proteins for the dogs is not a very old concept and it does not guarantee a total absence of allergens to the dog. It is therefore important to read all the reviews of the hydrolysed proteins in the market before rushing to buy the first one you find at the pet food stores. One of the most acclaimed hydrolysed allergen free diets is the Royal Canin Hydrolysed Protein Small Dog. Royal Canin Hydrolysed Protein Small Dog review [amazon box="B004RGBCRI" grid="1"] Manufactured by Mars Petcare Inc., Royal Canin recipes are the beat dry foods for dogs with sensitive stomachs. The meal contains nutritious and balanced ingredients that work well for maintaining the health of the dog. The formulation of the recipe meets all the needs of the adult small breed dogs. It is also ideal for all other adult dogs. The AAFCO approved Hydrolysed Soy Protein is allergen free and easily digestible. The ingredients in the recipe help to reduce kidney stones risks in the dogs and to boost their dental health. Ingredients The main ingredient in the diet is Brewer’s Rice made up of small rice kernel fragments. The small fragments come from larger kernels of rice and do not have the same nutritional profiles as those of whole kernels. This makes the brewers rice a low quality grain. It is however more affordable and easily digestible. The second main ingredient in the diet is Hydrolysed Soybean Protein, which is refined, isolate and purified. The hydrolysis of the soybean protein isolate makes it easier to get absorbed into the system of the dog faster than the intact protein isolate. Chicken Fat is the third ingredient in the diet and it contains omega 6 fatty acids that are essential for bodybuilding and protection. The fourth essential ingredient is Natural Flavor that helps to improve the palatability of the diet. Vegetable Oil is the fifth main ingredient in the diet. Another notable ingredient in the diet is Dried Plain Beet Pulp that is a by-product of sugar beets and helps with palatability. The diet also contains various vitamins and minerals. [su_button url="https://amzn.to/2oNoNgI" target="blank" style="default" background=" #fe8d2e" color="#ffffff" size="5" center="yes" radius="square" icon="icon: thumbs-up" rel="nofollow"]CHECK LAST PRICE[/su_button] Pros Highly digestible Hypoallergenic Contains no grains Do not come with any artificial additives, flavors or colourings Help with inflammatory bowel disorders Help with bladder stones Affordable Ideal for all adult dogs irrespective of the breed Cons Not as palatable as the original non hydrolysed protein diets Some may have lower nutritional values Adherence to strict regimens for feeding is necessary which does not go too well with some pet owners Customer’s reviews This is what some of the customers that bought and used royal canin hydrolysed food had to say about the product. Jey gave the diet a five star rating and had this to say. “This food saved my dog. She was having bloody stool because we changed her food to blue buffalo. We went through hell. she pooped blood for about two weeks, we took her to the vet first time she pooped blood, changed her food to prescription, gave her antibiotics, gave her acid med and nothing made her better. We decided to buy this food and she got better on the second day of eating it. We gave her this food for a week and then changed to another royal canin food and she is healthier than ever. Royal canin saved my dogs life and I’ll never give her any food but royal canin, be careful with the food that you buy for your dog” Another satisfied customer by the name M.Yi gave the diet five stars too and had this to say. “My yorkie (f) has had skin and ear problems and bloating (internal gas accumulation) for so many years cause of which we had no idea of, but thanks to an observant vet doctor, we changed her diet to this hydrolysed diet and it solved all her problems. I tried other brands and this one suits her best. I also mix her meal with canned wet type, which is only available from royal canin as far as I know. If your dog has itchy has itchy skin problems and smelly ears with lots of wax, suspect meat allergy and try this product. I only wish I had known this much earlier for my dog” There you have it. Royal Canin Hydrolysed food is not only good for allergies and bowel disorders but it is also great for itchy skin, and the ears. [su_button url="https://amzn.to/2oNoNgI" target="blank" style="default" background=" #fe8d2e" color="#ffffff" size="5" center="yes" radius="square" icon="icon: thumbs-up" rel="nofollow"]CHECK LAST PRICE[/su_button] Verdict From reading the reviews and everything about this product, I can only conclude one thing; the product is the right one to use for any dog going through health problems. Your vet doctor will definitely recommend this product and I too recommend it. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Wrapping it up Royal Canin Hydrolysed Food Protein is definitely one of the best foods to give your dog if you want the best for it, the good thing is you have a wide selection of products from the manufacturer that suit all kinds of dogs. If you have small sized breeds, you have this product to go with. If you have adult and mature dogs, you have other products from the same brand to help and the same goes for puppies. We have highlighted some of the products from the same manufacturer in our earlier articles and in case of any questions or comments, you can get in touch with us and we will gladly respond. About Me tag game!
I got tagged by @kunstpause! Thank you, my friend!
1: Why did you choose your url?
I decided around 20...14? 15? Right around when I transitioned, I think. Anyway I decided that with my real life name change, I wanted to reinvent myself in fandom spaces. Which, at the time, was mostly just my fanfiction dot net account. So I decided to just make a new one, which meant coming up with a new name, and I literally didn't think about that until I was sitting at the account creation window like SHIT NOW WHAT.
So there I was glancing around frantically for inspiration. And the pro choir I was in at the time was doing a Lent series featuring the Jan Dismas Zelenka Miserere in D minor. Zelenka is one of my favorite Baroque composers, and my potato brain was like hahah Dismas sounds like Dismal and THAT PIECE DO BE DISMAL so I cackled at my stupid pun and typed dismalzelenka into the username box and haven't looked back since.
2: Any side blogs? if you have them, name them and why you have them.
@projectdizposition is my hilariously inactive barely put together blog I made in a hypomania fueled frenzy a few years ago when I was like I AM DEFINITELY GOING TO PRACTICE COMPOSING MORE USING FAN MATERIAL and then did like two short pieces and never touched it again. I might start posting the fandom covers I do on there, but for now it's kind of dead so don't look bahaha
3: How long have you been on tumblr?
I genuinely do not remember. I think I made one back in 2012 and never got on it and forgot both the username and password? I did a lot of drugs back then during my idiotic and misspent youth so my memories are. Woof. Not clear. I made a transition related blog in 2014, and I think I deactivated it for trauma reasons. Maybe deleted it. I don't really remember that either.
The current one has been around since I catapulted myself into the Dragon Age fandom in December of 2017. I've been a brightly burning trash heap ever since. 😊
4: Do you have a queue tag?
I tried to but I could never keep in my memory what it was and kept having to go back to old posts to remind myself and eventually just gave up lmaooo
5: Why did you start your blog in the first place?
So I could wake up every morning and lovingly gaze upon pictures of Anders. I'm a trash can trash man and I own this, ok?
6: Why did you choose your icon/pfp?
I recently updated all of my fandom pictures to be of Blitzkrieg Bop, my Very Photogenic Cat who loves to pose for pictures and is very good at it. Purely because I felt like it.
7: Why did you choose your header?
hahahaha it was a ridiculous Skyrim mod glitch and it just so perfectly encapsulated my general mood and also the constant mood of the character in question that I had to make it public.
8: What’s your post with the most notes?
A Solstice blessing I posted around Yule really blew up. I didn't expect people to like it so much but it made me happy to know it brought joy to so many people. The next highest one is my "the Amells are a walking shitpost" meta post 😂
9: How many mutuals do you have?
Gonna be honest, I don't even know how to start looking for this information.
10: How many followers do you have?
1057, but I never bother going through for porn and spambots so the actual count is probably much lower. I can never be arsed to care enough to put forth the effort of cleaning it up.
11: How many people do you follow?
878? I don't ever go through that either. I probably should soon, but. 🙈 It sounds very stressful.
12: Have you ever made a shitpost?
I am in fact a walking shitpost. Shitposts tumble forth from my void on a daily basis. Sometimes I fear it is the only language I speak with any measure of fluency.
13: How often do you use tumblr each day?
Probably too much.
14: Did you ever have a fight/argument with another blog once? who won?
Y'all, listen. I am a Grade A WEENIE. I am a walking Pisces stereotype. I hate confrontation with a burning passion. If someone tries to start a fight with me, I make one (1) attempt at a civil conversation and then I block, because my mental health is not worth that shit. I have to yell at people in real life enough for work things, I do not have the energy for it in fandom too. Please be nice to me. I am fragile. 🥺
15: How do you feel about “you need to reblog this” posts?
Please Do Not. I hate this shit. Why does anyone think guilt tripping someone into reposting their content is going to do any bit of good in this world?
16: Do you like tag games?
I am a cat, and tag games are my catnip. Tag me in literally anything.
17: Do you like ask games?
I do! As you have probably surmised at this point, I am a Very Wordy Boy. Especially when I get to talk about my characters. I'm like Maes Hughes with the photos of his family in his wallet. HAVE YOU SEEN MY CHILDREN TODAY? That's me. Let me show you my children.
19: Do you have a crush on a mutual?
I have a crush on several of you motherfuckers. Stop being so goddamn attractive and cute. It's woefully distracting and I'm probably in love with you.
I have no idea who to tag, because from what I've seen just about everyone who I could tag has already been tagged so I'm just throwing my usual tag list on here and hoping it catches the very specific intersection of people who both haven't yet been tagged and would like to do this. Feel 100% free to ignore it if this sort of thing does not appeal to you. I love you pls don't hate me I am Very Scattered today. 🥺

Doodle Maker is very good piece of software that makes your video creation work simpler. However, i would like to suggest this tool for
[+] Online Businesses [+] Teachers [+] Students [+] Digital Marketers [+] Coaches [+] Parents [+] YouTubers [+] Freelancers [+] Authors [+] Newbies [+] Entrepreneurs
and lot more. Even you can buy and give it access to your Kids. Who knows? They may become a Whiteboard animation video making experts in future.
Pricing and Evaluation
Doodle Maker costs $47 one-time payment. During this launch special you can avail doodle maker for a low one-time payment of $47. It is launching on 1st-Sep-2020. On that day you can get it for $47. On the next day onward, the price will be increased to $67 one-time.
I don’t know. May be they change to yearly or monthly fee without announcing. So, it’s better to come in 1st SEP and avail the $47 one-time price.
I have seen that most of the Doodle softwares are costly and the will charge you monthly fee. There are some tools for the one-time price but i don’t like them all.
I like Paul Ponna’s Doodle Maker so much than other once because the features they have offered is mind blowing and it is very simple to use for both beginners and experienced people.
Paul Ponna’s Doodle Maker is gonna be one the best alternative for Doodly, Videoscribe, Powtoon, Animaker, Vyond, Toonly, Explaindio, Easy Sketch PRO 3.0 and what else.

Doodle Maker Review – Final Verdict
I saw many other doodle software tools outside. With all those tools out there, you need to create videos from scratch. Meaning, you are required to have creativity.
You should come up with a clear idea before start using those tools.
But with Doodle Maker, you don’t need to be a creative person. Most of the work has been simplified. It has done for you pre-made templates.
With these pre-made templates, you can save a lot of time. Simply upload your company or may be your client company logo and generate videos in seconds.
Also, if you have your existing videos, you can transcribe automatically and make whiteboard animation videos in minutes. Is that cool?
Actually there are lot more features and benefits i can talk about it. I highly recommend this tool.

Thanks sooo much @oop-theregoesgravity !!
1. why this URL honestly? I have no idea, at the time it was random but now I love it bc i’m a major maladaptive daydreamer
2. any side blogs? yesshhh, only for private stuff so I keep it to myself 😳
3. how long have you been on tumblr? long time, I started when THG was promoting the first movie
4. have you ever had a fight with another blog? lololol yess, long time ago. It was with someone who was pro snape and they were trashing james and i was havin none of it, it got heated fastttt 😂
5. why did you start your blog in the first place? so I had a place to totally nerd out and not have to worry about people irl knowing (i was an angsty teen, now idgaf)
6. why did you choose your icon/pfp? I like pics of myself but this one hides my face a bit, I saw someone else w a similar idea and loved it
7. why did you choose your header? I’m all about aesthetic and it went w the profile pic, also I love space ✨
8. what’s your most liked post? me geeking out over how perfect it would be if the SaB tv show includes the line of Kaz calling Jesper Jordie (i need it)
9. how many mutuals do you have? no idea, but its grown since I read TOG/ACOTAR which is amazing! I also have some who have been w me through all my fandom changes/growth and I love them sm 💕
10. how many followers do you have? 1,183 (idk how honestly)
11. how many people are you following? 684
12. have you ever made a shit post? 100% normally in defense of a writer/artists/creator (anons piss me tf off, y’all are ballsy cyber bullies)
13. how often do you use tumblr a day? no clue, it’s a lot tho for sure
14. do you have a queue tag? nah, couldn’t figure it out 😂
15. how do you feel about the “you need to reblog” posts? depends, if it’s human rights related then yea I think everyone should reblog bc it’s good to spread the info. if that’s all you can do, it’s definitely something to help more people get informed. if it’s art/fanfic related, ehhhh, not a big fan. I’m all for supporting artists bc fandoms would literally be no where without them and life would be hell. but it’s still my blog, it’s who I am so I have to vibe/love the art or fanfic in order to reblog it, so that I can go back and look at it. I don’t reblog stuff for anyone else, just for me, but I still work really hard to be supportive and spread people’s works, especially for smaller fandoms/smaller blogs (I hope that all didn’t make sound like an asshole) also for fics I prefer reblogging masterlists rather than multi-chapters, it’s an easier index and less cluttered (i’m very organized lol) 🥰
16. do you like tag games? LOVE THEM!! and it’s so nice bc now I have a lot of mutuals who love them too
17. do you like ask games? YES but I never get inboxes so I normally just don’t reblog them. but I get it, I don’t post anything on here created by me so asks are less common
18. which of your mutuals do you think is tumblr famous? honestly, quite a few especially my mutuals who write/create art! I love y’all, your the backbone of the fandoms
19. do you have a crush on a mutual? nah
20. Taggg em upppp
@fandomlifeofsara @gaynasadads @mercxrial @rattle-th3-stars @waiting-for-nobody @fma-forever-in-my-heart @marleneprincemckinnon and anyone who wants to!
tumblr tag game
thank you so much for the tag @lizziebxnnet !! genuinely can’t wrap my head around the tumblr famous thing but i’ll take it 🙈❤️
1. why did you choose your url? cos i’m a writer and i’m rebellious, but only slightly. and my lucky number is 23.
2. any side blogs? oh god, too many.
@thefolkofthefic (tfota side blog)
@emberinelfhame (WIP aesthetic side blog)
@yafandomsnet (yalit side blog)
@sanktmilo-oftherails (grishaverse side blog)
@wordafterwordispower (writing advice side blog)
@bendheaven-raisehell (red aesthetic side blog)
@theglintofyourblade (sword & dagger side blog)
@jurdannet (a main blog but i help run it with some other lovely tfota fans)
@jurdannetrevels (jurdannet events side blog)
3. how long have you been on tumblr? i first joined back in 2011/2012. then rage quit after tumblr took away porn 💀 then came back about a year and a half ago, met all you lovely folks and decided to stick around for a while :’)🖤
4. do you have a queue tag? yes! #by queue i am forever undone
5. why did you start your blog in the first place? i’d just finished reading six of crows and needed a place to scream/laugh/cry about it with others who’d read it. at the time, i didn’t have any other social media, so i turned to tumblr lmao.
6. why did you choose your icon/pfp? i like vampires lol.
7. why did you choose your header? i like magical forests.
8. what’s your post with the most notes? this writing meme that somehow has nearly 70K notes 😳
9. how many mutuals do you have? idk but they’re all wonderful :’)
10. how many followers do you have? i have no clue tbh i don’t check very often 😂
11. how many people are you following? even less of a clue there.
12. have you ever made a shit post? omg so many.
13. how often do you use tumblr a day? bold of you to assume i ever leave.
14. have you ever had a fight with another blog? nah. if i don’t like your vibes i unfollow/block and keep it pushin.
15. how do you feel about the “you need to reblog” posts? i mean, you certainly never HAVE to reblog anything. but i think it’s less about “you need to reblog” and more about “if you consume something on tumblr and if you enjoy it, the absolute best way to thank the creator w the least amount of effort is by reblogging it to boost the algorithm on that post and share it with others who follow you”. i will never understand why people are so opposed to creators asking for validation on their FREE content, you’d think we were asking you for your right arm or something 😂🙈
16. do you like tag games? yes!
17. do you like ask games? YES!!
18. which of your mutuals do you think is tumblr famous? ooo probably @charincharge for her tog fics and @destiniesfic for her tfota and grishaverse fics 🙌
19. do you have a crush on a mutual? all of them!
20. tags! @charincharge @destiniesfic @kevin-day-is-bi @dirty-wra1th @firelxdykatara no pressure! 🖤

Does Using Free DIY Graphic Design Apps Hurt Your Brand Image?
If you have ever hired or contracted a designer I’m sure you are aware of the pretty penny that process can cost you.
As a designer who has worked freelance for many years, cost was one of the biggest pain points in working with new clients.
Many people (especially those unfamiliar with the design world) tend to think of design as a product instead of the service that it truly is.
With the introduction of Fiverr in 2010 (selling design services, amongst other services, starting at $5) many people’s assumptions that design could and should be *cheap* (or “lean” as Fiverr likes to call it) were affirmed.
Shortly after came the next wave of low-cost design. DIY Design.
Platforms like Canva (which launched in 2012) allowed users with no design background to create their own graphics using templates and plug and play tools with little to no cost. Great, right?
Not so fast…
The Value of Good Design
Before we get too far into DIY design, let’s get one thing straight: The real value of good design.
In a nutshell, good design creates a sense of professionalism.
It doesn’t matter how young your company is, if your branding and design are well-thought-out and original, you will automatically exude more credibility than a company’s that doesn’t.
This outcome may be hit or miss when it comes to DIY design.
DIY Design is a lot like DIY home improvement in some ways.
Yes, you probably could figure out how to retile your entire bathroom on your own, but I’m sure hiring a professional would be quicker, more efficient, and give you some peace of mind in knowing the job is done right.
Graphic designers are trained professionals and have years of experience and knowledge that you simply cannot replicate with a DIY software.
And again, like home improvement, with graphic design, you often get what you pay for.
Using quick cheap alternatives often leads to rushed, thoughtless, templated work.
When considering the upfront cost of hiring a designer, think of everything that you’re actually getting like idea brainstorms, professional opinions, drafts, revisions, mockup reviews, file exports.
You can even ask for an itemized invoice or proposal up front so you can see what tangible value you will be getting from your direct cost.
The Pros & Cons of DIY Graphic Design Tools
There are also actually hidden costs of using a DIY Design platform that you probably haven’t considered.
Let me break this down for ya’ in a good old fashioned Pros and Cons list.
Pros
Available templates can help create quick and easy graphics for social media, web pages, or other collateral. If you need something in a pinch and don’t have the time to wait on a designer, a template in one of these tools may help you get what you need done quickly.
Doing some DIY design may allow you to save your design budget for bigger, more important projects you may have down the road. If your budget is limited, you may not want to use it all on social media graphics for the quarter or one infographic. Prioritize what is important to you, or even consult with a designer to see where they think their help will be most valuable to you.
User-friendly software allows you to easily create or change up a graphic without the help of a designer.
Cons
Popular templates can be easy to spot. Now that these platforms have grown in popularity, you run the risk of your content looking unoriginal.
The results may not be exactly on-brand. Since these platforms don’t always give you full design control and you may not have clear brand guidelines to work with, the end product may come off looking off brand or not branded at all. This can make your work look low quality or in-cohesive, creating a poor experience.
Like with all new software you come across, there may be a learning curve on how to use it. Really the learning curve means that this might not be such a quick fix for you after all.
May save you money but not time. Yes, you may save upfront dollars by not hiring a designer, but how much time is that graphic going to take you to make. How much is your time worth?
Let’s also consider the “Jurassic Park” principle here... Just because you can, doesn’t mean that you should. Graphic designers are experts in their field, with years of education, practice, and insight that you probably just do not have.
Online Design Softwares are handy but simply aren’t as comprehensive as professional software like Photoshop or Sketch. This means you will not have as much control over the final product as a designer would. While you may have a brilliant, cutting edge idea, a DIY tool may not be able to bring it to life the way a designer could.
But Do DIY Graphic Design Apps Hurt Your Image?
I can’t give a definitive answer on whether or not you should or should not use “over the counter” design apps.
I honestly think it comes back to a case by case basis.
I’ve seen people that were able to create very brand-faithful materials with some simple coaching or direction, but also situations that were completely off target.
If the graphics you (or even a professional) create are of low quality or not visually appealing, that reflects poorly on your brand.
It tells your audience that you do not care about quality and if you don’t care about the quality of your own brand, that tells your audience you might not care about the quality of your products and services either.
There are so many things both small and large that could contribute to having a low-quality graphic. I could never name them all, but here are a few that I see in amateur print and web media constantly:
Stretched or distorted fonts
Too many different fonts being used together
Using type that is either too small or too large
Text that is difficult to read
Pixelated or low-resolution imagery
BAD STOCK PHOTOS (yes, I am yelling)
Using long URLs instead of short ones that are easy to type
Not including brand recognition at all (like a logo or URL)
If you don’t have a designer on staff, before you start using DIY tools, I have a few recommendations.
First off, perhaps you can have a designer create a template, or multiple templates, that any non-designer on your team can reuse with a few simple changes.
This could be made in a program you already use like Google Docs, PowerPoint, or Adobe Acrobat, or even in one of the many online user-friendly, DIY software (we’ll get to those below).
Maybe you only have to change out some wording, an image, or an icon but this allows you flexibility and peace of mind in knowing that what you’re doing is on-brand.
Another option is to have a designer create a branding guide that will guide your hand when you’re behind the wheel.
A branding guide can include guides for color, logo usage, typeface usage, as well as image and icon direction.
If you must DIY, there are some great tools out there…
Canva
With its extremely easy-to-use interface and countless templates, you’re sure to find a good starting place on Canva. They have a wide variety of icons, graphics, and fonts to choose from and even let you upload your own images.
They also have a great resource space that will help you learn some basic design skills to get you started.
Though their basic service is free, you are locked into what features you can use. To use the premium features, you’ll pay $9.95 per month per user. You will also find that if you want to use some of the graphics or images you may have to pay $1 per graphic.
Stencil
Describing itself as “ridiculously simple image creation for social media marketers, bloggers, and small businesses, ”Stencil is specifically geared toward social and web images, which I honestly think is one of the best places to experiment with a little DIY.
Similar to competitors, Stencil will start you out with a free account, but limits what you can do with it. For full access, you will have to pay $12 per month for “Pro” Access or $15 per month for “Unlimited” Access.
Piktochart
Different from the other software I’ve mentioned Piktochart is directly focused on infographics, presentations, and print and their templates reflect as much.
Piktochart comes in as the priciest DIY’er offering a free basic account, but to unlock full access you will have to pay $24.17 per month for “PRO” Access or $82.50 per month for “PRO Team” Access.
What Now?
So, will using a DIY design software hurt your brand image? No -- but using a DIY design software poorly will.
My best advice if you are going to give DIY a try is to use your best judgment, stay on-brand, and always get a second set of eyes on your design, especially if you know those eyes will give you the harsh truth you might need to hear.
Spend the money on good design when you can.
Good design like buying yourself a good pair of shoes is always worth the investment.
Figure out your design budget and outline what is most important to you, or again, consult with a designer who can help you determine this.
Even if all you can budget is getting help setting up a set of brand guidelines, it can make a world of difference in how your brand looks both in print and web mediums.

The Ultimate Cheat Sheet for Taking Full Control of Your Google Knowledge Panels
The Ultimate Cheat Sheet for Taking Full Control of Your Google Knowledge Panels
Posted by MiriamEllis
They say you can’t squeeze blood out of a turnip, but when the turnip (and your biggest potential competitor) is Google, the lifeblood of the local business locations you market could depend on knowing where to take control.
As Google acts to confine ever-more stages of the local consumer journey within their own interface, local enterprises need to assume as much control as possible over the aspects of the Google Knowledge Panel that they can directly or indirectly influence.
This cheat sheet is your fast track to squeezing the most you can out of what Google is still offering.
How Google changed from local business benefactor to competitor
It may not come naturally, at first, to think of Google as a competitor. For many years in the local space, their offering of significant free screen real estate to any eligible local enterprise was like a gift. But, in their understandable quest for maximum profitability, Google is increasingly monetizing their local product, while at the same time giving more space to public sentiment when it comes to your brand’s reputation.
As this trend continues, your business needs to know which features of the Google Knowledge Panel that appear when searchers seek you by name can be controlled. You’ll also want to know which of these features has the most potential to influence rankings and consumers. We’ll explore both topics, as follows.
Core features on most Google Knowledge Panels
Different industries have different Knowledge Panel features, but the following graphic and key represent the elements that commonly pertain to most business categories. Each numbered feature will be described and designated as controllable “yes” or controllable “no” in the accompanying key. Some features will be labeled controllable “partly”, with notes explaining that designation. You will also discover pro tips for best practices, where appropriate.
1.) Photos & videos
When clicked on, this takes the user to both owner and user-generated photos in a set. Photos significantly impact CTR. Photos must be monitored for spam.
On mobile, there is a separate tab for photos, beyond the initial profile images.
Pro Tip: Videos can also be posted to your photos section, but try to post more than 2 videos so that you’ll get a separate mobile video subtab.
Controllable?
Partly; this is both an owner and crowdsourced element.
2.) Maps
When clicked on, this takes the user to the Maps-based Knowledge Panel accompanied by map with pin. Be sure your map marker is correctly placed.
Controllable?
Partly; owner can correct misplaced map marker, but users can submit placement edits, too.
3.) Exterior photo
When clicked on, this takes the user to an interactive Google Street View visual of the business.
*On mobile, no separate space is given to exterior photos.
Controllable?
Partly; owner can correct misplaced map marker.
4.) Business name
This must reflect the real-world name of the business and be formatted according to Google’s guidelines.
Pro Tip: If your enterprise is a Service Area Business, like a plumbing franchise with no storefronts, your name should match what appears on your website.
Controllable?
Yes; owner provides, though public can edit.
5.) Maps star
When clicked on, this gives users the option to either save the location to their map, or to view the location on Maps. Very little has been published about this easily overlooked feature. Users who star a location then see it as a star in the future on their maps. They are a form of “lists.” It might be posited that a business which many have starred might see some form of ranking boost, but this is speculative.
*On mobile, there is no Maps star. There is a “save” icon instead.
Controllable?
No.
6.) Website button
When clicked on, this takes the user to the website of the company. In multi-practitioner and multi-location scenarios, care must be taken that this link points to the right URL.
Pro Tip: Large, multi-location enterprises should consider pointing each location’s Knowledge Panel to the right landing page. According to a new study, when both brand- and location-specific pages exist, 85% of all consumer engagement takes place on the local pages (e.g., Facebook Local Pages, local landing pages). A minority of impressions and engagement (15%) happen on national or brand pages.
Controllable?
Yes; owner provides, though public can edit.
7.) Directions button
When clicked on, this takes the user to the Maps-based widget that enables them to designate a starting point and receive driving directions and traffic alerts. Be sure to check directions for each location of your enterprise to protect consumers from misdirection.
Controllable?
Partly; owner and the public can report incorrect directions.
8.) Review stars and count
The star portion of the section is not an average; it’s something like a “Bayesian average.” The count (which is sometimes inaccurate), when clicked, takes you to the separate review interface overlay where all reviews can be read. Review count and sentiment are believed to impact local rankings, but the degree of impact is speculative. Review sentiment is believed to highly impact conversions.
Pro Tip: While Google is fine with your business asking for reviews, never offer incentives of any kind in exchange for them. Also, avoid bulk review requests, as they can result in your reviews being filtered out.
Controllable?
Partly; owner can encourage, monitor, thumb up, and respond to reviews, as well as reporting spam reviews; public can also flag reviews as well as thumbing them up.
9.) Editorial summary
This is generated by Google via unconfirmed processes and is meant to provide a summarized description of the business.
Controllable?
No.
10.) Address
For brick-and-mortar businesses, this line must display a genuine, physical address. For service area businesses, this line should simply show the city/state for the business, based on hide-address settings in the GMB dashboard.
Controllable?
Yes; owner provides, though public can edit.
11.) Hours
When clicked on, a dropdown displays the complete hours of operation for the business. Care must be taken to accurately reflect seasonal and holiday hours.
Controllable?
Yes; owner provides, though public can edit.
12.) Phone
This number must connect as directly as possible to the location. On desktop, this number can be clicked, which will dial it up via Hangouts. A business can add more than one phone number to their GMB dashboard, but it will not display publicly.
*On mobile, there is no phone number displayed; just a call icon.
Pro Tip: The most popular solution to the need to implement call tracking is to list the call tracking number as the primary number and the store location number as the additional number. Provided that the additional number matches what Google finds on the website, no serious problems have been reported from utilizing this strategy since it was first suggested in 2017.
Controllable?
Yes; owner provides, though public can edit.
13.) Suggest an edit link
This is the most visible vehicle for the public to report problems with listing data. It can be used positively or maliciously.
Controllable?
No.
14.) Google Posts
Introduced in 2017, this form of microblogging enables businesses to post short content with links, imagery, and video right to their Knowledge Panels. It’s believed use of Google Posts may impact local rank. Each Google post lasts for 7 days, unless its content is designated as an “event,” in which case the post will remain live until the event ends. Google Posts are created and controlled in the GMB dashboard. Google has been experimenting with placement of posts, including showing them in Maps.
Pro Tip: Posts can be up to 1500 characters, but 150–350 characters is advisable. The ideal Posts image size is 750x750. Images smaller than 250x250 aren’t accepted. Posts can feature events, products, offers, bookings, phone numbers, 30-second videos, and links to learn more. Images can contain text that can prompt users to take a specific action like visiting the website to book an appointment, and early days experiments show that this approach can significantly boost conversions.
Controllable?
Yes.
15.) Know this place?
When clicked on, this feature enables anyone to contribute attribution information to a place. A wizard asks the user a variety of questions, such as “does this place have onsite parking?”
Pro Tip: Google has let Top Contributors to its forum know that it’s okay for businesses to contribute knowledge to their own Know This Place section.
Controllable?
Partly; both owner and public can add attribution via this link.
16.) Google Questions & Answers
Introduced in 2017, this crowdsourced Q&A functionality can be contributed to directly by businesses. Businesses can post their own FAQs and answer them, as well as responding to consumer questions. Q&As with the most thumbs up appear up front on the Knowledge Panel. The “Ask a Question” button facilitates queries, and the “See all questions” link takes you to an overlay popup showing all queries. This is becoming an important new hub of social interactivity, customer support, and may be a ranking factor. Google Q&A must be monitored for spam and abuse.
Controllable?
Partly; both owner and public can contribute.
17.) Send to your phone
Introduced in 2016, this feature enables desktop users to send a place to their phone for use on the go. It’s possible that a place that has been sent to a lot of phones might be deemed popular by Google, and therefore, more relevant.
*On mobile, this option doesn’t exist, for obvious reasons.
Controllable?
No
18.) Review snippets
This section of the Knowledge Panel features three excerpts from Google-based reviews, selected by an unknown process. The “View all Google reviews” link takes the user to an overlay popup featuring all reviews. Owners can respond to reviews via this popup or the GMB dashboard. Review count, sentiment, velocity, and owner response activity are all speculative ranking factors. Reviews must be monitored for spam and abuse.
Pro Tip: In your Google My Business dashboard, you can and should be responding to your reviews. Surveys indicate that 40% of consumers expect businesses to respond, and more than half expect a response within three days, but it’s best to respond within a day. If the review is negative, a good response can win back about 35% of customers. Even if you can’t win back the other 65%, a good response serves to demonstrate to the entire consumer public that your business is ethical and accountable.
Controllable?
Partly; both owner and public can contribute.
19.) Write a Review button
This is the button consumers click to write a review, leave a star rating and upload review imagery. Clicking it takes you to a popup for that purpose.
*On mobile, this is formatted differently, with a large display of five empty stars labeled “Rate and Review.”
Controllable?
No.
20.) Add a Photo button
This button takes you to the photo upload interface. Third-party photos must be monitored for spam and abuse. Photos are believed to impact CTR.
*On mobile, this CTA is absent from the initial interface.
Controllable?
Partly; brands can’t control what photos users upload, but they can report inappropriate images.
21.) View all Google reviews
This link brings up the pop-up interface on desktop containing all of the reviews a business has received.
Pro Tip: Enterprises should continuously monitor reviews for signs of emerging problems at specific locations. Sentiment analysis software is available to help identify issues as they arise.
Controllable?
Partly; brands can’t control the content reviewers post, but they can control the quality of experiences, as well as responding to reviews.
22.) Description
After years of absence, the business description field has returned and is an excellent place to showcase the highlights of specific locations of your enterprise. Descriptions can be up to 750 characters in length.
Pro Tip: Do call out desirable aspects of your business in the description, but don’t use it to announce sales or promotions, as that’s a violation of the guidelines.
Controllable?
Yes.
23.) People Also Search For
This section typically shows brand competitors, chosen by Google. If clicked on, the user is taking to a Local Finder-type view of these competing businesses, accompanied by a map.
Controllable?
No.
24.) Feedback
This link supports suggested public edits of the Knowledge Panel, which Google can accept or reject.
Controllable?
Partly; brands can’t control what edits the public suggests. Brands can use this feature to suggest edits, too, but there are typically better ways to do so.
Additional features on some Google Knowledge Panels
Some industries have unique Knowledge Panel features. We’ll list the most common of these here:
Price summary
This is meant to be an overview of general pricing.
Controllable?
Partly; this is both an owner and crowdsourced element.
Lengthier editorial summary
Shown in addition to showing the category of the business, this editorial summary is created by Google by unconfirmed processes.
Controllable?
No.
Menu link
A somewhat complex feature, these can link to third-party menus, or can be generated directly by the owner in the GMB dashboard for some businesses.
Controllable?
Partly; owner can control the menu URL and content in some cases.
Reviews from around the web
This features a rating summary and links to relevant third-party review sources, determined by Google.
Controllable?
Partly; owners can’t dictate which 3rd parties Google chooses, but they can work to build up positive reviews on featured sources.
Critic reviews
These are chosen by Google, and stem from “professional” review platforms.
Controllable?
No.
Popular times
This information is drawn from users who have opted into Google Location History. It’s meant to help users plan visits. It’s conceivable that this could be utilized as a ranking factor.
Controllable?
No
Booking
This “see schedule” button takes the user to Maps-based display of the company’s schedule, with the ability to reserve an appointment.
Controllable?
Yes
Groupon ads
This controversial element found on some Knowledge Panels appears to feature Groupon being allowed to advertise on brands’ listings without owner consent.
Controllable?
No
Local business URLs
There are a variety of additional URLs that can either be added to the GMB dashboard or stem from third parties. These URLs can represent menus, ordering, booking, reservations, and product searches.
Controllable?
Partly; owner can add some additional URLs, but some come from 3rd parties
Google Messaging
This is Google’s live chat feature that lets clients directly message you.
Controllable?
Yes
Hotel Knowledge Panels
Hotel Knowledge Panels are practically a completely different animal. They can offer much more detailed booking options, more segmented review sentiment, various ads, and deals.
Controllable?
Mostly; owners have a variety of features they can enable, though some are out of their control.
Prioritizing Google Knowledge Panel features for maximum impact
Every location of an enterprise faces a unique competitive scenario, depending on its market. What may “move the needle” for some business locations may be relatively ineffectual in others. Nevertheless, when dealing with a large number of locations, it can be helpful to have a general order of tasks to prioritize. We’ll offer a basic list that can be used to guide work, based on elements that most important to get right first:
✓ Guidelines
Be sure all listings are eligible for inclusion in Google’s product and adhere to Google’s guidelines, both for the listings, themselves, and for reviews.
✓ Duplicates
Identify duplicate Google My Business listings using Moz Check Listing or Moz Local and handle them appropriately so that ranking strength isn’t being divided up or thwarted by multiple listings for the same location.
✓ NAP
Create a spreadsheet containing company-approved name, address, phone number and website URL data for each location and be sure each Google listing accurately reflects this information.
✓ Category
Without the right primary category, you can’t rank for your most important searches. Look at the category your top competitors are using and, if it’s right for you, use it. Avoid repetition in category choices (i.e. don’t choose both “auto dealership” and “Toyota dealership").
✓ Map markers
It may seem obvious, but do an audit of all your locations to be sure the Map marker is in the right place.
✓ Reviews
Acquire, monitor and respond to reviews for all locations on a daily basis, with the goal of demonstration accessibility and accountability. Reviews are part-and-parcel of your customer service program.
✓ Images
Images can significantly influence clickthrough rates. Be sure yours are as persuasive and professional as possible.
✓ Posts
Make maximum use of the opportunity to microblog right on your Knowledge Panel.
✓ Ability to implement call tracking numbers
Analysis is so critical to the success of any enterprise. By using a call tracking number as the primary number on each location’s Knowledge Panel, you can glean important data about how users are interacting with your assets.
✓ Q&A
Post and answer your own company FAQ, and monitor this feature on a regular basis to emphasize the accessibility of your customer support.
✓ Product/service menus
Where appropriate, a thorough menu deepens the experience a user can have with your Knowledge Panel.
✓ Bookings
Depending on your industry, you may find you have to pay Google for bookings to remain competitive. Alternatively, experiment with Google Posts image text to pull users from the Knowledge Panel over to your own booking widget.
✓ Attributes
Add every appropriate attribute that’s available for your business category to deepen Google’s understanding of what you offer.
Summing up
Each element of a Google Knowledge Panel offers a different level of control to your Enterprise, from no control to total control. Rather than worry about things you can’t manage, focus on the powers you do have to:
Create positive real-world consumer experiences by dint of your excellent customer service
Prompt consumers to help you reflect those experiences in your Knowledge Panel
Monitor, track, and interact with consumers as much as possible on your Knowledge Panel
Publish rich and accurate information to the Knowledge Panel, knowing that Google wants to retain as many users as possible within this interface
Local enterprises are in a time of transition in 2018, moving from a past in which the bulk of customer experiences could be controlled either in-store or on the brand’s website, to a present in which Google is successfully inter-positioning itself an informational and transactional agent.
Google wants your Knowledge Panel to work for them, but with the right approach to the elements you can control, you still have a significant say in how it works for you.
