Inland Lighthouse

Lighthouses exist to warn of danger, and not just for ships. Amidst the tall swaying grasses stands a lighthouse, miles from any ocean and maybe as old as the sky itself.

The prairie has little, and yet it is never quiet. The wind is its own demon, letting nothing stop it. Only the beam of the lighthouse can pierce through its never-ending rage.

The lighthouse is a beacon, an anchor of safety. But it also serves as a warning to all travelers; do not come here. If you can see the lighthouse’s glow, you are already too far in.

Far inland stands a large lighthouse, the inside walls covered in ruins and ancient script and the stair case metal railings twist and curl into wave like patterns.

a sea uncharted

"Are you ready?”

She quips. She was ready to dive in — despite it seeming deep with uncertainty that lied within.

He stills. He’s intrigued but worried  — the fact that he was already drowning was already too much on his plate.

They’ve always tested the waters, noticing the ripples each one made. The way they glittered under the skylight was enticing enough to submerge forward, slowly, from hesitant feet, to stable legs, to longing waists. And that’s when they halted. As if a cliff was waiting a step further.

Are you ready?

She turns to him. Her eyes are the waves of summer, free, letting sunlight shine through.

“I’m not sure.”

He turns to her. His eyes are undiscovered depths of the sea, heavy, restrained.

Her waves flatten once. Then, they stir, calm, reassuring, understanding — she knew this already. “We have time.”

Hints of sunlight reaching out to sea bottom.

“Okay.”

A Month of Disabled Prompts;
