"Seems like we're all done with the preparations! I do love when a plan comes together seamlessly like this~!"
"I'll be right with you, girls, I just have a few things to set up before I leave Leanbox for a bit. It pains me SO to leave my DARLING Vert to handle things on her own for even some days... but alas, I have so many duties. Now let me update my social media real quick..."
((This post is just to make people aware of franchises which I'm most familiar with. Since I'm crafting missions around the characters I get, the most familiar I am with the series, the more confident I will be on my posts and the less research I'll have to do, which might result in faster posts. Due to OneHeart's ability to mimic people or take forms that people know, it also requires more research from me if I don't know the series that well. Please note, however, that this blog is open to ALL FANDOMS and OCs. This list is just for light referencing, and knowing me, I definitely forgot some so I'll update it a bit along the way:))

My Experience as a Prom Planner: "Last night was like the ending of Carrie, if instead of pigs blood, Carrie just got to be prom queen." - What will she do with all the doubt she still carries after the party end?
July 2024
I had my prom yesterday, what made it special is that I was in charge of planning the event myself. A quick side-note: ever since my break up last year I’ve convinced myself that I hate people and don’t need them. Yet despite this initial angst, I find that I try with all my might to make the people around me happy and I still give so much love to those I adore. Showing this mentality was utterly false and naïve.
Prom was a conflicting event for me, there was no glitz and glam, pre-prom or post-prom for me, this was my last chance to prove myself to a tiny world of mostly privileged teenagers I've known since i was 7. For me the success of this event was life or death (spiritually), the happiness of proms participants was a quantitative measure of my own worth. How...terrifyingly insignificant the stakes were.
Prom came and I could finally reap the benefits of my hard labour.
...The most absurd night occurred:
People who’ve bullied me over the course of my school career gave me hugs, telling me how beautiful I was. Boys who broke my heart looked at me as if Aphrodite blessed me. People who were too pretty for me told me how much they appreciate me. A perfect end to a coming of age film.
Yet the credits haven’t rolled and I’m still going.
Still breathing.
I didn’t think I’d make it to 18, I thought this was the end of the frontier. My teenage Magnum Opus <3. Yet I wake up and slowly come to the realisation that life continues another day. I don’t know if I’m happy about that yet, like Sisyphus I have to start again.
My reflection 7 Months later
Reflecting upon that experience almost 7 months since my Prom in July I see a very broken girl. She feared her life purpose was fulfilled before she'd even properly lived. I am proud of what that broken girl achieved, but I look down upon her mindset. A self-fulfilling prophecy of "woe is me" and a heavy reliance of the "I'm not like other girls" mindset. I had forcibly isolated myself emotionally with my peers, but true admiration and love for some of them shone through that persona and I couldn't help but to care for all these people I had grown up with. I derived enjoyment from planning the prom, from the praise, but it took everything I had. It took reinvention in order to complete a task I saw as monumental, but look back and see as menial.
I was told that at university no one will care about who you were or what you did, just who you are now presently. That is painfully true. As much as I would love to gloat to my new peers that I have proved my worthiness before getting a degree, it is unbecoming and leaves a bad taste in my mouth. In the mindset of Robert Greene, I have mastered the art of planning a prom, great...time to move onto the next task.
I have been forced to adopt the task of Sisyphus, I will continue to push this boulder up the mountain to prove my worth, to master something that has more meaning to the world around me. I do not know how that will manifest, but I look optimistically to the top of this unforgiving mountain. all the obstacles I will face, all the times I will want to give up, but the chance of success is too sweet not to reach.
I stretch my whole body, crack my neck, I do a few jumps to make myself limber and I look towards the sky where the mountain lies. I prepare to push the boulder once more, I smile, as I have been given another opportunity to prove myself.

Prom: A Question
The past couple of months, my mum’s been harassing me about prom. I know I know...I’m not even halfway through the year and prom talk has already begun. Let me live XD.
As a child, I was pretty excited about prom. As the perfect mix of tomboy and girly girl, the concept of dressing up and experiencing this ball-like evening was absolutely fascinating. I’d seen all the pictures from my siblings’ proms, seen how exciting the whole thing seemed to be. I was pretty hyped. Not to mention, I’d been promised my sister’s prom dress...a dress that I’d been absolutely in love with. As a child, prom seemed pretty cool.
As I aged, I became significantly more brooding and significantly more invested in pants, and naturally the magic of prom kind of just...wore off. As time went on, I couldn’t really see myself participating in that kind of thing. There was even a time where I firmly believed I wouldn’t attend at all. Something that I only decided against recently. Which brings me, I suppose, to what I wanted to talk about. For some reason completely beyond my comprehension, I suddenly find myself completely and utterly -
- E X C I T E D F O R P R O M.
Okay so I may have exaggerated just a little bit, but I will admit to being at least a little excited. For a long time I’d been dragging my heels about the whole thing, but in the past couple weeks, I’ve found myself maybe even somewhat looking forward to it. Even with my mum nagging me about needing to find a dress, needing to coordinate it with my date’s tie...even with all of the pressure that prom undeniably puts on everyone’s shoulders...I’m actually kind of excited.
In a completely uncharacteristic fashion, I spent my evening scouring through Pinterest, pinning dress after beautiful dress. A simple conversation in french class, a simple picture of a friend’s prom dress, was all it took to inspire me to get off my lazy butt and get excited. It’s incredibly odd to suddenly want to experience something you’ve been ignoring for so long, yet as I look over all of my crazy pins, I can’t deny that I’m having fun. Turns out there a lot of beautiful dresses on the internet XD and on top of that, I actually like quite a few of them. Who’d have guessed?
Prom is, in a way, supposed to be a celebration of your successes as a student and blah blah blah but honestly, it’s also a way to connect and celebrate with your friends one last time before the world as you know it hypothetically ends. And while I still don’t overly care for all of the bells and whistles and extremes that prom carries with it...I’m finally looking forward to this final hoorah. I guess the time finally came for me to quit being a total Scrooge.
A toast, to prom and all the hell that comes with it. And hopefully a few beautiful moments as well. After all, this is the most beautiful moment in life.

Generation 2: Frontier Aquarium
Week 4: Frontier Success
Hi Everyone,
Welcome back to another quick visit with Eliseo and Jemina Gary who are enjoying a nice quiet weekend after a busy week of dreams coming true, travels, prom night, and a couple of birthdays.
Tumblr media
Jemina got some new outfits for her birthday including this everyday one.
Tumblr media
This is Jemina's 'perfect' jellyfish that completed her lifetime wish.
First please Eliseo as he wishes a very Happy Birthday to his lovely wife, Jemina who has reached her midlife years. Although she's experiencing a crisis that is associated with these mid years, Jemina is extremely happy after completing her lifetime wish of owning the 'Perfect Aquarium' after catching a 'perfect' quality jellyfish to finish off her collection. Now Jemina can sell the remaining fish she catches to advance in her career as an angler.
Tumblr media
Jemiah is now all ready for school.
Birthday wishes also go out to Eliseo and Jemina's youngest son, Jemiah whose name is a variation of Jeremiah who is his grandfather. Despite having the absent-minded and good traits, Jemiah is not so good when it comes to acquiring something he wants by showing signs of having a kleptomaniac sign to him. We'll have to wait and see how many 'things' that are not his that Jemiah comes home from school with. His parents hope that he'll do the right thing and return whatever he takes unless it's dirty dishes.
Tumblr media
Eliseo emerging from the final dive well in the Pyramid of the Burning Sands after picking the flame fruit he needed for his new contact, Fatima Amin.
Eliseo took a return trip to Egypt to continue his 'Business Abroad' adventures with Sekhmet Hawas. Since he had passed away in Eliseo's absence, he had to wait a couple of days before Fatima Amin contacted him to continue his previous task which was to find some flame fruit inside the Pyramid of the Burning Sands. By the time Eliseo delivered the fruit, his trip was almost over so will return at a later date to ask Helmi Hosni about an ancient book that Fatima is interested in.
Tumblr media
Poor Elijah had one of those infamous mood swings on the day of his prom. He got in trouble for trying to put a whoopie cushion on one of the chairs in the downstairs hallway twice so his mother put him in a time out. Things got better for him at the prom with his date.
The last big news of the family's fourth week in Sunlit Tides is that there eldest son, Elijah now has a girlfriend. When he was in grade school, Elijah became friends with one of his classmates, Elosie Carnegie who lives with her parents and brother in Sunlit Tides. She became a teenage a couple of days before the high school prom and asked Elijah to be her date. Elijah and Elosie had a great time at the prom together where she kissed him for the first time and asked to be her steady boyfriend to which he agreed.
Tumblr media
Meet Elijah's prom date, Elosie Carnegie who according to Elijah is 'excitable' but neurotic and 'can't stand art'. These things don't matter to Elijah as he has since fallen in love with her.
That's the main news for now from the Gary household in Sunlit Tides and they have included some recent photos for you all to enjoy. Have a great week everyone!

ludus [pre-pragma]
ludus - playful love
pairing: frankie ‘catfish’ morales x f!reader
warnings: none
a/n: so in my mind frankie is 40-ish in triple frontier and in pragma so each of these little one shots will be either fifteen, ten, or five years prior to the events in pragma/the movie. most of them will also be from frankie’s pov.
summary: frankie hates parties so he’ll find any reason to get away from one and in this case the reason is you.
pragma masterlist
FIFTEEN YEARS AGO
Frankie stood in the corner of the room, away from all the riff raff of the party going on around him. Santiago dragged him along although he had said no about twenty times. He kept telling him that this would be their last party with people they knew for a long time, but what finally convinced him? She was going to be there—the girl he’d been crazy about since high school. She wasn’t one for parties either if he remembered correctly. Even on the night of the senior prom he found her outside looking up at the stars instead of sneaking drinks and dancing with everyone else.
He loved her then. Hell, he had loved her forever.
He took a sip of the beer he’d been nursing as Santiago walked over to him.
“You just gonna stand here all night, hermano?” Santiago asked, standing beside him and nudging him.
“Yup.” Frankie took another sip of beer. “Told you I didn’t wanna come.”
“You’ll feel better once your girl shows up, I bet.”
“She’s not…my girl.” Frankie could feel himself getting hot under the collar. She would be if he had the guts to confess.
“She could be. I keep telling you what you have to do.” Santiago waved at a woman that walked by then looked over at the door. “Ah, there she is.” Frankie immediately stood up straighter and wondered if his outfit was okay. Santiago called her over and she floated over with a beaming smile.
“Hey boys! I’m so happy to see some familiar faces.” She hugged Santiago then Frankie. He awkwardly patted her back, trying not to make it obvious that he turned into a mess around her.
“Good to see you. Beer?” Santiago offered and she nodded. He went off to get a beer, leaving her and Frankie alone.
“How you been, Francisco? You’re looking good.”
He silently thanked God that he decided to wear what he was wearing tonight. “Thanks. You too. You look…nice,” he said awkwardly.
“Aww Frankie, you’re such a sweetheart. Thank you.”
“Uh…you wanna—” he started.
“A beer for the lady,” Santiago said, handing her a bottle.
“Thanks Tiago.” She giggled when he made a face at the nickname.
“I’m gonna leave you crazy kids to it. I…got a few things to take care of.” Santiago lifted his bottle of beer towards them before walking off.
She leaned in closer to Frankie. “I hate it here.”
“Yeah, me too. Wanna get outta here?” he asked.
“Please.” She put her beer on a window ledge and headed for the door with Frankie not far behind. “Ahhh, that’s better. I can hear myself think out here.”
“Yeah.”
“So…are we going for a drive or just hanging out here?” She tugged on the bill of his cap—something that he had come to love.
“Whatever you want,” he said, shrugging.
“Let’s go for a drive.” She got into his truck.
“You got it.” He got in and started the car, looking over at her only to get caught.
“You’re always looking at me like that, Francisco.” She grabbed his face and laughed.
“Sorry.” He was happy for the darkness inside the truck because she couldn’t see him blushing.
“Don’t be sorry. I like when you look at me.” She let go of his face and he started to drive. He had no idea where they were going but he was just happy to be with her.
“I like when you look at me too,” he said after some time.
“You’re fun to look at.”
“I…am?” he asked.
“Yup. And I like being around you,” she said. “You make me feel…safe. Safe and calm.”
“You make me feel seen. That probably sounds stupid but…”
“It’s not stupid, Frankie. I get it.” He turned in the direction of the lake and she sat up straight. “The lake?”
“Yeah. That okay?” he asked and she nodded happily. As soon as he parked the car, she hopped out and ran to the edge of the water. The sun hadn’t fully set yet but the moon was already bold in the sky.
“I love it here.” She pointed across the lake. “I’m gonna have a house right on the other side of the lake. I’ll be able to walk a few feet from my house and be at the lake.”
“Oh really?” Frankie stood beside her.
“Yup. And I’ll invite you and Santiago. We’ll have barbecues and go on hikes. Everything!” She was so animated and Frankie fell even more in love. “Do you think the water is cold?”
“Hm…I dunno, why?” She looked at him then kicked off her shoes. He watched her, confused, until she began taking other articles of clothing off. “Whoa…what the hell are you doing?” Frankie turned away quickly.
“Going for a swim.” She stepped closer, letting the small waves lap at her feet. “You can look. It’s not like I’m naked.”
Frankie hesitated more for his sake than hers. He could barely handle looking at her fully dressed and knowing that she had even less on already had him feeling things he’d be embarrassed to talk about even at his age. When he finally looked, she was looking back at him. He was entranced—not by her body but by the way she looked at him. A small smile graced her lips and the setting sun seemed to make her glow, enveloping her in an ethereal light. Soon he was standing beside her in just his underwear as well, ready and willing to do anything she asked of him. The water hit his feet and he hissed.
“It’s freezing.”
“We gotta run in,” she said backing up.
“What?” He followed her.
“The quicker we get in there the faster our bodies will adjust to the temperature.” She grabbed his hand and squeezed. “Ready?” He nodded. “Count of three. One…two…three!”
And they ran as fast as their feet could carry them, shouting and gasping as the water hit them.
“Holy shit!” Frankie yelled before laughing wildly. She went under and came back up, gasping.
“Okay. It’s colder than I thought.” She laughed then floated on her back. “Francisco?”
“Yeah?”
“How much longer are you home for?” she asked. He and Santiago were planning on joining the army together and just about everyone knew by now.
“A few more weeks. Gotta finish up getting my pilot’s license. Why?” He watched as she floated then came to a stop to look at him.
“I’m…gonna miss you.” Her face fell and though the light from the sunset still shone on her, she no longer glowed. The only thing that he saw from her now was sadness.
“I’m gonna miss you too but me and Santiago will be back. And we’ll get to do some swimming and camping and whatever else you like, okay?” He moved closer to her, trying to see if he had cheered her up a little at least.
“Is it selfish to say that I don’t want you to go?”
“No. It’s nice to hear someone say that. It’s nice to hear you say it especially.”
“Can I do something?”
“Like what?” he asked as she moved even closer. They hadn’t gone out too far so they were still able to stand and have their heads above the water.
“Kiss you…maybe it’ll give you something to remember me by.”
“I’ll remember you no matter what but…okay.” Truthfully, he wanted nothing more than to kiss her and now that it was about to happen, he tried his best to keep calm. She put her arms around him and closed her eyes as she moved in for the kiss. Frankie knew he should close his eyes but he wanted to remember her face at that moment—her perfectly puckered lips, the small shy smile that played across her lips.
Then it happened and his eyes fell closed all on their own. Her fingers tickled the hair at the nape of his neck as she pressed her lips to his. It was a gentle kiss but it lingered on his lips so much so that he wanted more and luckily, she did too. This time, he kissed her and she made a beautiful sound against his lips. Her fingers tangled in his hair now and he vowed to never cut it too short if only to feel her fingers tug and play with his hair this way again. His tongue played at her lip until she let it slip into her mouth. She made another lovely sound, one that affected him in a way he prayed she couldn’t feel.
When they finally pulled away from each other, they were out of breath and both craving more.
“That was the most amazing kiss I’ve ever experienced,” she said.
“Yeah,” was the only thing Frankie could muster.
“Frankie, I…I think I…” She lowered her eyes then laughed it off. “I think we should go get dressed now.” She swam toward the shore. He lingered for a moment but soon followed.
“Are you okay?” he asked her, shivering against the air.
“Yeah, I’m okay.” She dressed quickly and walked back to his truck, seemingly avoiding eye contact.
“You wanna go home?” he asked as he walked over, pulling his shirt over his head.
“Can we just sit here for a bit?” She hugged herself.
“Here.” Frankie put the jacket he hadn’t put back on yet around her shoulders. “I thought you said I was fun to look at but you’ve been trying your best not to look at me ever since we got out of the water.”
“Frankie, I…I don’t know how to deal with how I feel right now…”
“How do you feel?”
“I’m happy. I’m sad. I’m confused.” She finally looked at him and smiled sadly. “I don’t want this night to end.”
“I don’t either.” Frankie put his hands in his pockets.
“We need to get you a new cap.”
“If you can find me a cap you think I’d wear I’ll switch this one out for it and never take it off. How’s that sound?”
“You promise?”
“Promise.”
Then she hugged him. She let out a sigh as she did. He kissed her forehead and held her. This was all he ever wanted. The feeling of her in his arms, her embrace, would stay with him forever.
“Let’s get you home.”
“Okay.” She let go and got into the truck. Once he got in and started the car, she played around with the radio. “You know, I can’t wait to get out of that shitty apartment.”
“Just keep dreaming of that big house by the lake and it’ll come true,” he said.
“I hope so.” Livin’ On A Prayer by Bon Jovi started playing on the radio and she sat back before turning to him and grinning.
“No…” He shook his head. “Not this time.”
“Tommy used to work on the docks, union’s been on strike. He’s down on his luck, it’s tough, so tough…” she sang. “Come on, Francisco!”
“Gina works the diner all day working for her man, she brings home her pay, for love, for love…” he mumbled unenthusiastically.
She sung louder now. “She says we gotta hold on to what we’ve got. It doesn’t make a difference if we make it or not. We’ve got each other and that’s a lot for love. We’ll give it a shot!”
And Frankie finally joined her for the chorus, both of them singing at the top of their lungs.
“Whoa! We’re halfway there! Whoa! Livin' on a prayer! Take my hand, we’ll make it I swear! Whoa, livin’ on a prayer!”
They laughed and sang whatever they could when they finally caught their breath. He pulled up to the front of her apartment building and turned the car off.
“Promise me we’ll hang out before you go,” she said, turning in her seat to face him.
“Of course we will. Promise me you’ll kiss me again?”
“Now or…”
“Yeah.”
She leaned over the center console and kissed him before he could say another word. He pulled her across a little more completely so that she was sitting in his lap now while her feet still rested on the passenger seat. His cap was knocked off at some point during the kiss but he didn’t care. All he felt were her hands, her body, her lips and the rest of the world faded away. They kissed each other as if this would be the last time they ever did. He craved more—so much more, but he stopped himself, pulling away to catch his breath.
“Your…your hat,” she breathed.
“Don’t care.” His forehead rested against hers. “I wanna kiss you every day for the rest of my sorry life.”
“Why can’t you?” she asked. He wasn’t sure how to answer.
No. He did actually but he couldn’t get himself to say the words. They were right on the tip of his tongue but…he couldn’t. He didn’t want to scare her away.
“What’s wrong, Frankie?”
“Nothing…and everything,” he said. She moved off his lap and sat back in the passenger seat. He was so in love with her and she didn’t even know it.
“Do you…wanna come upstairs?” she asked.
Hell yeah I do. “I can’t,” he said. “Not tonight.”
“Oh.” She sounded so disappointed, so let down, but he couldn’t do that with her yet. He couldn’t let her give herself to him fully without telling her those words that he was so afraid to say.
“I don’t want you to think I don’t want to. God knows I do, but…there’s something I gotta do first, okay?” He touched the hand she had rested on the center console.
“Okay, Frankie.”
He took her hand and kissed it then pressed it to his cheek. Say it. Just. Say. It.
“I’ll see you soon,” he said. “Don’t forget about that new hat.”
“You got it.” She smiled and got out of the truck. “See you soon.” She walked away but stopped before she went into the building to blow him a kiss. He pretended to catch it and put it in his pocket.
“I love you,” he said quietly as she turned away. “So fucking much.”

And then there was one
[ Quick little writing inspired by a Game of Among Us with @descendantofthesparrow @dovescendants and @melodee-the-spacetimeservant ]
Content: Second person POV, death
***
“You’re going to kill me, aren’t you”
You stand in the electrical room, the feeling of wires crushed under your boots grounds you slightly, keeps you in the moment as you look upon the face of the Imposter.
(Their suit is red. Red on bold bursting red. It makes it hard to tell where the blood ends and the plastic texture of the fabric begins. But you know it’s there. It has to be there.
The scent of burnt metal stings in the air.)
The helmet they wear hides their face- if the even have one, for all you know there is nothing but an empty void under the mask. Or worse, a corpse puppeteered by the will of another far crueler entity— and their hands are still at their side as the black screen tilts forward.
Your own face is reflected back at you.
You meet your gaze.
The humming of the electrical room increases. Till all other noise, the sound of your heart, the echo of your breathing, is drowned out.
They- it- nods its head slowly, stiffly, as if they aren’t sure how to make the muscles move quite right. You can see the way your chest splutters in their mirror gaze- the way your throat spasms as all breath is knocked out of your lungs.
This is it, isn’t it, this is how it all ends, on a little space craft floating all alone with only the bodies of your fallen crew for company. With the creature that made a meal out of them, your friends, as your last witness.
You realize distantly that this isn’t the ending you wanted. Not in here, not this way. But you don’t have much of a choice do you?
Except. “I want to die in the greenhouse. You can follow me when you’re ready”
Here’s the thing, you’ve never been a brave soul. You signed up for the space exploration program because your good at doing the long meticulous jobs other people find tedious or boring. Maintaining the engine, repairing the electrical center even though it breaks for the third time in one week, all of that is easy for you. Relaxing even.
You know you’re going to die. Even if you somehow manage to outrun, to overpower it and run, the fact is you’re the last one left and no SOS would be able to rescue you in time. But here, right now, you can say two sentences, you can have that choice.
You walk out of the electrical room half expecting to get stabbed in the back, but it leaves you undeterred.
(The route from here to the Greenhouse is short and you don’t give yourself time to think about your decision. No chance to back out now. Time to be a good little white lamb and offer yourself up to the slaughter.
Huh, who knew that gallows humor followed humanity to the final frontier?)
What you called the Greenhouse was really nothing more than a small Oxidation room. Barely larger than your bedroom back home, but the blue and green lighting was soothing and it housed the only plants on board the vessel- so it would have to do.
It’s almost funny, in an ironic sort of way. You hated gardening back on earth. The bugs and the worms and the sweating made your skin crawl. No summers were spent playing in the grass for you, but the longing that burns in your stomach whenever you walk in the Greenhouse is overwhelming.
Your time in space made you nostalgic it seems. Which is why as you remove one of your gloves to caress a soft leaf, you remember Red. Not the Imposter, not the murderer, but the person who liked kittens and cartoons. Who took a sharpie and painted a tuxedo onto their outersuit and said they always wanted a Space Themed Prom. The crewmate who made you laugh so hard you couldn’t finish your daily tasks, but whose prescience made it impossible to hate them for it.
You wonder if that person ever existed, or if it was nothing but an act, a long con to lull you into a state of weakness till it became time to strike. (You wonder which would be the kinder option)
The leaf shakes under your touch.
You are not a brave soul, never have been never were, and now you never will be.
That’s why you don’t turn to face the imposter as the enter the room. Nor when you feel something sharp and hard plunge into your flesh. But the air is so clear here that it feels as if you’re dreaming. A world of hazy springtime unfurls itself around you. It would be a waste not to lay back and enjoy the sun.
You smile as you lift your hands up to see poppy flowers growing from your palms. Your legs. Your opening in your stomach. A hundred little petals fly around you and sing a symphony of Red Red Red Red——

Meanwhile in an Alternate Universe
So what if the cast were the MCs of their own stories? What sort of genres and story structures would lend themselves to each of the characters’ personalities, and traits? What kind of different scenarios can you put them in, while still retaining their character?
I mean, what sort of stories would the characters fit best if they were the MCs?
Like how everything about Oscar's backstory and character screams, "traditional hero's journey." Outside of the Ozpin stuff, he'd fit right in a generic heroic fantasy or sword in the stone type set-up.
Basically an excuse to think up interesting AU ideas, without committing to writing anything. Here are some of mine.
Weiss - Political Intrigue Drama
Weiss has to deal with her estranged family while navigating a complex world of politics and business. Can she keep her family's business running in a harsh, cut throat industry, as well as protect herself, and her family from those that would sabotage them? Even if some of those people might be closer than she thinks.
Blake - Spy Drama
As a spy working in the service of her country, Blake and her colleagues' efforts were the only thing keeping their small country from being overtaken by the larger, more powerful nations around it. But just how far is she willing to go for her country, and what is she willing to sacrifice to ensure its safety?
Yang - Action/Sports
Yang is an up-and-coming rookie to the female pro kick boxing world, and she has to prove her skills and determination to make it to the top.
Jaune - Adventure/Comedy/Fantasy
Kids always want to be heroes when they grow up, Jaune was no different. Smothered by his family, and over shadowed by his siblings, he sets out on his own to defeat evil and fight for what is right. The only hiccup? He’s a healer.
Nora - Historical Fantasy/Action
An orphaned child that grew into a powerful, but kind Shield Maiden, and took up the name Nora Valkyrie. Guarding the realms of man from monster and human alike. She fights in the hope that one day her actions will earn her a place she can finally belong.
Pyrrha - Romantic Comedy
Pyrrha is a lonely girl, who only ever wanted to find someone who could understand her and treat her like she was everybody else. Which is difficult because she’s a super strong, but has a hard time controlling her strength.
Ren - Wuxia/Cooking/Comedy
Ren is a wandering chef, that wishes to travel all over the world and learn about other cultures and their cuisine. But in a world where food is the life blood of society, one is always in danger of having their food and recipes snatched away at a moments notice. But Ren is not afraid, for he is a master of both martial arts & the culinary arts; and is armed with his specialized cooking based fighting style.
Weiss - Isekai Comedy/Adventure
Weiss Schnee is beautiful, well-mannered, & from a wealthy family, with numerous business prospects to pursue after graduation. One wouldn’t be remiss to say she had her future laid out for her already by the age of 17. She wouldn’t struggle for work, nor opportunities barring some sort of familial tragedy. And yet, Weiss found life to be so very dull. She yearned for something that would bring stimulation to her life; little did she know, she should be careful what she wishes. On a day like any other, Weiss Schnee is suddenly whisked away to another world. A world where her looks, & her father’s money won’t help her get ahead. One she is interested in testing herself against.
Blake - Harem Comedy
Blake is your average bookish college girl. Completely content to go unnoticed so she can enjoy her smutty romance novels in peace. But one day she is chosen by a god of love, due to her abundance of (second hand) knowledge, to spread love to the people of the world. So now Blake has been tasked with wooing as many people as she can, or she'll be punished. Except Blake has never actually dated anyone. Well she'll probably figure it out.
Yang - Western/Adventure
Yang Xiao Long is a bounty hunter. One of the best bounty hunters on the frontier. She's been after a specific mark for years, but they always manage to get away from her. She’s in no hurry though, she’ll get them, it’s only a matter of time. Yang Xiao Long always gets her mark.
Jaune - Drama/Coming of Age
Jaune Arc is a failure. His one chance at making something of himself ended up with his almost going to prison. His only saving grace being that he was 16 at the time. Now 18, and freshly out of juvie, Jaune has to figure out how to make it on his own with the authorities just waiting for him to screw up. No skills, no experience, and everyone around him expecting the worst of him; will he become an up-standing member of society, or do old habits die hard?
Nora - Modern Fantasy/Coming of Age
Stories of gods and their offspring are found in cultures and mythologies the world over. The story of Nora Valkyrie is one such story. She must learn not only to balance the two halves of her life, but also comes to terms with her parentage, and the prom is tomorrow!
Pyrrha - Action Adventure
Pyrrha Nikos was destined for greatness, from birth her life had been laid out for her, and she was reaised to be a champion of the people. To strive to be better than those around her, and that came before her. Now she must under take a quest to claim a power that will change the world, one that will no doubt be fraught with peril.
Ren - Action/Drama Revenge Story
Lie Ren is on a quest of revenge. After the murder of his parents & the destruction of his village, he will stop at nothing to find the one responsible. And make them pay. But will he become a monster just to sate his hunger for vengeance?
What do you think? How could these ideas work, or not work? What would you do to improve them, or push them further? What are some story ideas you think the characters would work well with?

CAROLINE POLACHEK - SO HOT YOU'RE HURTING MY FEELINGS
[8.00]
This, though, we think should be a hit now.
Wayne Weizhen Zhang: i feel personally attacked by this relatable content [8]
Julian Axelrod: Caroline Polachek has spent most of her career trying to hide Caroline Polachek. She's operated within bands, under monikers, and behind other artists, parceling out pieces of her genius but never showing her full hand. "So Hot You're Hurting My Feelings" is Caroline's coming out and coronation, a reintroduction to her astonishing range of talents for anyone who forgot. It's also a full-bodied bop, sleek and lithe without sparing an ounce of impact. The gleaming 80s prom synths and cave sprite backing vocals promise a pop fantasia, but her bleakly hilarious cries for connection feel like a sendup of diva desperation. The most thrilling moment might be the bridge, when her wordless wail is vocodered into oblivion. Ironically, Polachek obfuscates her voice to create her most singular expression to date. And when she's done, all you can do is gasp. [9]
Hazel Southwell: Wow Frou Frou are back right in time to soundtrack my mid-thirties breakdown as well as the mid-twenties one! Except this also has a nice bit of chugging Fleetwood-Mac-by-way-of-HAIM guitar so it's tickling all kinds of aesthetic pressure points. It gained a whole two points from me for the embarrassing sax solo in the breakdown, that's a real stomach-curling squirm of a crush right there. [7]
Oliver Maier: "So Hot" doesn't push into exciting new frontiers like "Door" and "Ocean of Tears" did. Indeed, the "The Middle"-esque vocoding on the hook and relatively conventional arrangement suggest a mainstream sensibility that isn't so much absent from Pang's other singles as it is wrestled into Polachek's own pop framework. Here she's mostly content to play ball, and the result is a straightforwardly great song, still with enough eccentric turns of phrase ("X-rated dreaming"!), sticky melodies and frenzied vocal solos to stay a step ahead of the competition. I could see the abundant quirkiness being grating to those less convinced by the elegant architecture of C-Po's songcraft, but I'm helplessly charmed by both. [8]
Alfred Soto: Fans of Haim's precisely deployed synth chug will warm to Caroline Polachek's latest single: 2013 as 1987. She's gotten more assured since the Chairlift days: check out the vocal distorted unto death and into a solo. [7]
Michael Hong: Caroline Polachek is trying to keep her composure. She's out at the party, attempting to be cool, attempting to live her life. But at the same time, she's quietly suffering, counting the days her partner's been gone. "So Hot You're Hurting My Feelings" is as slick as the best of Chairlift, with lines worthy of its title, like "I cry on the dance floor, it's so embarrassing," delivered without an ounce of self-pity but with Polachek's biting humour. Her attempts to appear collected fail from the outset, but her frustrations come to head on the chorus when she sings "get a little lonely babe" and the desperation and desire in her voice become palpable. Polachek's composed vocals over the heavily processed ad-libs perfectly capture the mental anguish of a long-distance relationship, her outward poise giving way to the inward chaos. [9]
Kayla Beardslee: I've been listening to "Door" a lot lately (a 10, by the way), and one of the many things that's grabbed me about the song is how impressively detailed it is: I'm still discovering nuances in the production after a double-digit number of listens. "So Hot You're Hurting My Feelings" is a less complex experience than "Door" -- a name-brand lollipop instead of a box of chocolate truffles -- but it has the same attention to detail that makes playing it over and over and paying close attention so rewarding. The three claps in the verses, the "aah-aah"s panning right and left, the electric guitar strum (I think) at the end of the chorus, the gasps and "Woo!"s peppered throughout -- god, inject this shit straight into my veins. And, of course, Polachek's vocals are on point, even behind the tasteful vocoder; her voice climbing and falling on "it's so emBArrassing" is an entire journey on its own. "So Hot" is sparkly synthpop designed to go down easy, but there's substance in it too, for those who want to look for it. [9]
Isabel Cole: The lyrics unfortunately don't live up to the OTT promise of the excellent title, squashing my hopes for something exuberantly agitated along the lines of an emotion I still only know how to describe as "blogging about One Direction in 2013" in favor of a fairly banal exploration of the angst inherent to long-distance love. I do like the burbling production, with its funny little stream of disembodied vowels winding through behind the verses. [6]
Joshua Lu: An adroit tiptoe along the line between horny and tender, unconcerned with appearing too desperate or silly -- or with enunciating properly. [7]
Will Adams: There's a certain melodrama that comes with relating embarrassment ("I could have just DIED!"), particularly with intense crush feelings for a former flame, that "So Hot" nails. It's there in the gasp before the final chorus, the way Polachek's distorted vocal wails as the backing vocals murmur "show me the banana" and the song's title. While the previous Pang singles took time to wiggle their way into my head, "So Hot"'s charms are immediate. [8]
Kylo Nocom: The Aces via Forevher era Shura shouldn't sound endearing, yet Polachek is a vocalist and songwriter entertaining enough to sell it completely. "X-rated dreaming" is a clunky phrase, but I'm obviously reaching, damn it: the song exists for the title and it's a great one. [9]
Jacob Sujin Kuppermann: Caroline Polachek makes music that is almost too perfectly formed-- rhythms that sound like perfect tessellations, dazzling vocal performances with leaps and runs that are almost inhuman, synths that sound wrought from glass. The only thing preventing it from being intolerable is the stuff she's singing about, the fundamental vocabulary of longing that her work, whether solo or in Chairlift (RIP), speaks. "So Hot You're Hurting My Feelings" is just another manifestation of a running theme in her work, but it stands out for its directness and messiness-- she's not just crying in public but on the dancefloor, pining in ways that are almost outside of society. It doesn't all work on the record (the bananas on the bridge are a little hokey) but it feels so deep it can't be avoided. [8]
Stephen Eisermann: A sexy little song that owes much of its sex appeal to Caroline's voice, the harmonies, and my god that production. It's crisp and clean, like the white dress shirt my fantasy man wears; the one I thought of as I closed my eyes and listened to this song. Lust in song form, this one. [7]
Joshua Copperman: So good it's hurting my feelings: I keep wanting to save my [10]s for songs that feel Big and Important, like "Slip Away" or "The Joke." Maybe something that doesn't have immediate political importance but stands on its own, like "Cellophane." (Being co-written by a transgender woman when the Supreme Court is about to decide whether transgender people can be fired on the basis of their identity might qualify this song, but I don't want to reduce Teddy Geiger to her gender.) From the opening line, which seems to swipe from Robin Williams' character in mid-2000s Blue Sky Studios comedy Robots, it's clear that this isn't exactly a deep song. Instead, "So Hot" is perfectly goofy songwriting, down to a bridge where Polachek chants "show me the banana, na na na na na" while also performing a guitar solo with her voice. Even better, it's a three and a half minute pop song, so it doesn't have time to meander like "Door." There isn't anything personal or political about this, but that doesn't even seem to cross Polachek and co's mind. Losing oneself in a pop song is just about the most overused trope in all of music criticism, but there's something to not being serious or even defiantly silly. It's just fun for the sake of fun, which is hard to justify as a [10]. Except maybe that was the whole point of this poptimism thing. In that case... [10]

Prompt: Andrew finds out that Steven likes men with beards so he decides to grow one. Although he does learn that Steven loves him regardless, Steven still is quite into beard burn and he won't say no to Andrew growing his stubble/beard (Not necessarily NSFW, kinda up to you on the frontier).
Title: Growing on Me
(ao3 link for those who prefer: here)
Andrew’s trying his best to focus on this video he’s supposed to be editing but it’s hard to when his boyfriend is literally sitting across him, laughing his sweet ass off. Steven and Jen are going through a bunch of BuzzFeed quizzes just for the fun of it and they are having an absolute blast.
After a few more failed attempts at concentrating on the task at hand, Andrew decides to stop here for now. He yanks his headphones off and just when he does that, he hears Steven commenting on one of the options in the quiz.
“…definitely the bearded guy. Men with beards are HOT!” That’s information Andrew definitely needed to hear.
Andrew walks around the desk to cross over to where Jen and Steven are sat. As he approaches, Jen looks up from the screen to greet him, Steven is still too consumed by the questions laid in front of him.
“What’s this?” Andrew asks, intrigued. He rests a hand on the table and leans forward, trying to read what’s being displayed.
“Pick your favorite looks and we’ll tell you who’s your true soulmate,” Steven reads right off the screen. “I wonder who I’ll get…” Steven must see something in Andrew’s face that isn’t there as he immediately starts backtracking. “I mean y-you-… you! …you are the one for me, of course! I just- this is just- The quiz mean nothing, Drew!”
Andrew cackles loudly, causing a few heads to turn. He honestly can’t believe what just happened, they should’ve been filming it.
“I’m not mad, don’t worry.” And Steven breathes a huge sigh of relief, Jen is clearly amused by this exchange as she’s giggling away. Andrew gestures at the laptop. “Keep going, I’m curious too.”
After several minutes of in-depth pondering, Steven finally reaches the last question and…
“OH MY GOD!” Steven jumps out of his chair, and is stumbling over the wires running across the floor. Jen is screaming like a crazed sports fan whose team just won. The entire office is looking over at them but only for a brief moment, these kinds of outbursts are more than common around here.
Andrew reaches out and turns the laptop to face him so that he can get a better look at the result. It reads…
You got: Andrew Ilnyckyj! BuzzFeed’s very own ‘creepy’ guy. Don’t let that cool, stoic exterior fool you, he is secretly a lovable goofball. A man of many talents, Andrew is more than capable of whipping up a scrumptious dinner for you, and can even charm your socks off with his wide history and geography knowledge. Plus, he loves animals too! Who said the perfect guy doesn’t exists?
That little snippet put a hot blush on Andrew’s face. He doesn’t even think he’s that much of a catch, much less being ‘the perfect guy’. Steven appears to disagree as he pulls Andrew in for a kiss, hands wrapping around his waist.
“So does the quiz still mean nothing?” Andrew asks when they part. Steven’s grip on his waist tightens, and he brings his face in closer. Their breaths mingle as Steven replies in a low voice.
“Yes. I don’t need a dumb quiz to tell me anything.”
So that soulmate quiz thing may actually be accurate but… Andrew’s not taking his chances. It took him so long to finally get into a relationship with Steven, he’s going to do everything in his power to see it through. Even if said ‘everything’ is going to get uncomfortable for him.
Andrew has scratched at his jaw over twenty times for the last few minutes, so it’s no surprise that it caught his boyfriend’s attention.
“Beard problems?” Steven asks the next time he sees Andrew scratching away. Andrew stops mid-scratch, he smiles, hoping to make it look like less of a problem than it actually is.
“No, just…” He then continues scratching when he can’t stand the itch. “…really itchy”
“Why don’t you shave it off then?” Steven suggests nonchalantly, taking another bite of his pizza. Andrew feels his heart sink, if Steven is suggesting that… Does he think Andrew can’t handle a little prickling? Granted, what he has on his face is more stubble than beard, and he already has this much difficulty living with it. Maybe he should just- No. Andrew shakes his head, he’s not giving up.
“N-no, it’s fine. Just needs some time to get used to it, that’s all.” Andrew replies, aggressively rubbing the side of his face in hopes of ending the irritation.
“Oh-kay…” is all Steven says, continuing with consuming his lunch.
Damn the itchiness, Andrew’s just gonna have to grin and bear with it. He’s going to make Steven swoon so hard with his beard, and no amount of irritation is going to stop him.
Andrew picks up another slice, focusing on the chewing and the swallowing and the flavor, and pushing any thoughts of his facial hair to the back of his mind.
It’s been two whole weeks since Andrew has seen his boyfriend, and he wants to make Steven’s six-hour flight from New York completely worth the time. Andrew went ahead and tracked down the very quiz that Steven took to find that specific image of that bearded man. It took hours of preparation but Andrew thinks he has the look nailed down.
Andrew watches as waves of people pass him, he checks the time. Steven should be out by now. Just as he thinks this, Steven steps out of the arrival hall looking all around like a lost child searching for their parent at a mall. Andrew chuckles to himself and walks over to the bewildered man who is still looking the wrong direction.
“Hey kiddo, are you lost?” Andrew puts on a comically deep voice and a playfully concerned face. Steven spins around immediately, not yet recognizing his own boyfriend standing in front of him.
“No sir, I-… Andrew?!” His eyebrows rise up so high that they almost disappear into his white cap. Steven’s checking him out up and down, and Andrew is feeling just a little self-conscious to have that kind of attention on him, in public no less. “Is this your Halloween costume? Are you going as Adam?”
“What? No…” Andrew looks down at his clothing, which Steven is now thoroughly inspecting and oh god. He has a red and blue plaid shirt on, black skinny pants and with the beard… it’s the holy trinity of the iconic Bianchi look. All he’s missing is the glasses, which he fortunately doesn’t need. “I just… I heard that you’re really into guys with beards so…”
Steven laughs at that and it’s the most cute, innocent laughter Andrew has ever heard. Steven’s bent at the waist and doubled over, shaking with mirth. When he finally regains his composure, they are tears in his eyes that he has to wipe away. Andrew doesn’t understand what’s so funny.
“Oh my god, Drew! I wasn’t trying to hint at you or anything!” There’s a little tingle that runs down Andrew’s spine, like always when Steven calls him by that nickname. It’s sorta distracting him from the moment.
“I… I didn’t think you were, just thought that maybe I should take a little initiative…?” Andrew shrugs, unsure of how to explain his thought process.
“Even so, I don’t think Adam is a good look on you.” He frowns and yeah, Andrew already has thoughts to rework his style. Still, he feels it’s important to explain his intention here.
“I just want to make you happy,” Andrew kinda mumbles, not moving his lips as much as he should, as if he’s ashamed to admit it. He stares down at the floor like a shy high-schooler asking someone out to prom.
When he finally gathers enough courage to sneak a look at Steven… he is looking at Andrew like he’s the biggest dummy on the planet. He takes a step towards Andrew and brings a hand up to cup his face, soft fingers gently stroking his beard.
“And you do. I love you, Andrew… beard or no beard, it doesn’t matter.” Steven’s smiling at him with the intensity of a thousand suns, and the warmth bursting through Andrew’s heart matches it in magnitude. It’s sappy but true.
“I know. I love you too.” Andrew closes the distance between their lips, and maybe it’s from missing him so much but Steven’s lips taste way sweeter than Andrew ever remembered. Even over the hubbub of the airport, Andrew can distinctly hear the tiny noise of satisfaction coming from Steven. When they pull away, it’s Steven’s turn to look embarrassed.
“You know what? I actually really like it, it’s really rough but…” Steven leans way in, bringing his lips next to Andrew’s ear, the hot breath almost making him shiver. “…that kinda turns me on.”
Before Andrew can formulate any sort of response, Steven’s walking off with the baggage cart. What a tease. Andrew catch up to him with double-wide strides, returning to normal once he’s side-by-side with his man again.
“I didn’t really like it at first either but it’s growing on me.” Andrew pauses for dramatic effect, Steven is already preemptively rolling his eyes because he knows where this is going. “Literally!”
Andrew’s pointing finger guns at a very done Steven, he even pretends to fire a few shots. The taller man lifts one hand off the handle of the cart to slap him on the arm, but he’s chuckling at the pun regardless.
“Not your best work. I give it an 8.”
“Out of 10? That’s a pretty good score.” Andrew wrestles for control of the cart away from Steven, who initially resists but gives up to yawn.
“No, out of a 100. You’re failing miserably.” That’s what he claims but Andrew knows better. The fondness that’s on full display on Steven’s face tells him all he needed to know: he succeeded perfectly.

Prom: the final frontier.
Prom: the final frontier.
This year it was actually going to happen. This year I was finally going to conquer my fear and participate in something most of my friends thought was fun. I couldn’t begin to understand how something so anxiety inducing could be fun, but then again, they didn’t have my problems, so I guess it was understandable. The thought of it actually turned my stomach, but I didn’t have a choice. If I didn’t go to prom this year, I might end up dead. Literally.
The reason I’m so opposed to prom dates back many years ago in my preadolescence. For now, living in this small town for so long has really started to get to me. It feels like the world is caving in on itself, and the bubble is about to burst. Prom is only one of the ridiculous traditions that is of the highest importance here, and my group of friends, though not exactly the most popular crew, fully expected each of us to pair off and attend the social function together. Well, at least I didn’t have to worry about finding a date.
At least, that’s what I thought. My date-to-be, Cam, came down with the chicken pox three days before the dance, so he’ll be staying at home on Saturday night with oven mitts taped to his hands. (Side note: Who in the hell gets chicken pox at age seventeen??) Naturally, the town crier sent up the alarm: “HEAR YE, HEAR YE! MARIA ESPOSITO SEEKS HER PRINCE CHARMING FOR THE BALL!” At least that’s what happened in my head. In reality, the town crier was my best friend Emily posting a message on Facebook that sounded a little too much like a Craigslist Casual Encounters ad. I begged her not to click “Post,” not to destroy what dignity I had left, but as with all best friends, there was no convincing her otherwise. But to my amazement, it worked. Within minutes, I had a new prom date. If only I had known that it was Tony de Luca, son of Italian mob boss, Dominic de Luca.

Breaking Up
Finally at the end of this speedway Your lips blowing smoke off the nozzle Of the revolver, I probably was the gun Wiping me off the blackboard again This frontier never looked so lonely then But it's really pathetic how we got here now Is this the conclusion of a love never ignited? My head notices sound but without Anything of substance or body to connect it to I dreamt we kissed, oh we had hugged before And I promised myself that I would ensure You'd never be hurt or damaged again Now youre far away, the passage is spoken and as you dance in your summer trousers I wonder could I join you? my hands on your hips- Before you met him. Oh, how the world had changed itself within my eyes As I brush your hair back, you start to explain How you had no path to your Chameleon soul You could have had me before the rain And your checkered trousers, your Willis hoodie That lime green swimsuit, I don't care if it was Your cricket jumper or your flower bodysuit- I would have gladly been yours, babe With or without the honesty. It would have been blue You made me the artist, a natural seer I'd gladly write about your beautiful days Hand on my heart, moving down those strong arms We're living in a world without responsibilities And living lives that mean nothing on the outside Having said all this, I back myself away But you move in for the kill, this is murder Seducing me with your belief in my spirit One, two, three What a meaningful kiss- Romance is the bitch. I cannot shake free from this Oh, what a fitting end to my running thoughts I have no control, when I write it runs like an athlete You wear the bodysuit and I write a song You wear the trousers and I am drunk and dancing Then there's the hoodie, I feel my self hate kick in like a drug And that swimsuit, I cannot control myself I am quick to criticise when you wear the cricket jumper All For You. Damn. That hurts like a son of a bitch, doesn't it? I have written because it has suited myself Facing myself as the recluse. The alternative hurts Hands still on those hips. My own death warrant Not by choice, but I know I shall be held accountable All the people frowning on me for reading this fact Beware, you judges. I feel the saga continuing This is the end of an era, feeling it wrapping up So I consider you in your prom dress, before we met Your purity laying nothing but waste to my love Love. O, this will be my untimely end at your hands

The reason I’m so opposed to prom dates back many years ago in my preadolescence. By now, living in this small town for so long has really started to get to me.

MARIA ESPOSITO SEEKS HER PRINCE CHARMING FOR THE BALL!”

@cltfya you’re up!
cltfya:
With a name like Tony de Luca you’d think he would have booked a date before Christmas. But if you think that, you’ve never met Tony. He should look like a young Robert de Niro, but unfortunately that’s not the case. Not only was he the founding member of the Sunnyvale High School Dungeon and Dragons club, Tony had never outgrown his awkward puberty phase. Every day he wore one of 4 different Game of Thrones t-shirts and the same pair of pants. Though he had a decent head of curly, dark hair, he unfortunately sported a face like a pizza. On top of that, he never sprouted above 5"4’. That might not be so bad if I wasn’t 5"11’ and the tallest girl in my class. I guess I need to go shopping for flats this afternoon.
I gulped down my weary disappointment and said to myself, “Don’t be superficial. Beauty is on the inside. This guy could be a charmer with personality for days - don’t be so quick to judge. What’s the worst thing that could happen, Maria?”
@fyadallas you’re up!
fyadallas:
While I was at the mall shopping for flats (Side note: Have you ever found a pair of prom-worthy flats? Because what passes for a mall in this one-horse town didn’t have one. single. pair that were remotely okay, and I had to settle for basic black ballerina flats. SO BORING.), I realized what I had to do.
In all honesty, I’ve watched enough teen romantic comedies that it shouldn’t have taken me so long to figure out the answer. What we needed was a makeover montage. You know the kind where the homely girl’s friends put her in a dress, some makeup, and take off her glasses, and suddenly she’s the hottest ticket in town? Everyone realizes what a great person she was now that she wasn’t completely overlook-able? Yes, that should solve my problem nicely.
Except the makeover wouldn’t be for me. It would be for Tony de Luca. Would a tux and a haircut fix his problems? Would I have to fight of tons off girls once we got to the prom?
More importantly, would the mob put out a hit on me if I put some concealer on his zits?
@kcfya, show us where this leads!
kcfya:
It was surprisingly easy to talk Tony into going to the mall with me the Saturday morning of Prom. I thought there’d be more bribing involved, but Tony seemed genuinely excited. Apparently, he didn’t get out of the house much.
I’d managed to book us the last spot open at Glam-o-Rama, which of course was the 8am slot. Armed with enough coffee to wake a hibernating bear, which I’m sure I resembled in my lazily tossed up hair and last nights make up still smudged under my eyes, the morning surprisingly went fairly smooth. As I paid for a new deep red shade of lipstick called Nosferatu, Tony came sauntering out of Glam-o-Rama looking like…well…there was only so much a mall makeover could do for a guy. Still, it was an improvement, and with a pair of lifts borrowed from my uncle Sal, he was reasonable close to my height.
At least we won’t be a laughing stock, I thought to myself. Aloud I said, “Looking good Tony.”
A sheepish grin fit on his face. He didn’t look half bad when he smiled. He rubbed a hand on his cheek. “I don’t know how I’m going to keep this on all day.” I reached over and pulled his hand away from his face. “By not rubbing it off. That’d be a good start.”
We walked down the escalator and through the double doors that led to the darkened parking garage. Even at 10am, the garage was still full of cars left over from the night before when the only night club in town, Lightening Blue, had its usual Friday night half-priced drinks special for the ladies. You just have to make it ten more hours, I told myself. What could go wrong in ten hours? I quickly found the answer to that question as we approached my car and the sound of a gunshot echoed through the parking garage.
Take it away @kcmofya
kcmofya:
I grabbed Tony and ducked behind the nearest car, a hulking SUV.
“What was tha—”
“Quiet!” I shushed him as we heard voices moving steadily closer to our hiding spot. I crouched further in the shadows of the SUV, my heart pounding. I was suddenly very grateful that the green living movement hadn’t made its way to Sunnyvale yet. Tony stuck his head around the side of the SUV before I could stop him.
“What the hell are you doing?  They’ll see us!” I hissed at him.
“It’s…” he leaned farther forward. “It’s my Uncle Vito and some other guy. I can’t see his face. They’re dragging something behind them. Something big.”
“Probably the body of whoever they just shot! And if they see us, we’re next!”
“Come on. It’s my uncle. He wouldn’t shoot anyone. I’ll just ask him what’s going on.”
“Are you kidding me? You’re going to just stroll out there and ask a murderer what’s up?” For the son of a mob boss, this kid was pretty clueless. Or pretty brave.
“He’s not a murderer.”
“We heard a gunshot and he’s dragging what’s obviously a body!”
As we argued over what to do, the two men and whatever they were dragging (A body. It had to be a body, right?) hopped in a car a few rows down and took off. Tony and I crawled out of our hiding spot and ran over to my car.
“We have to call the police! Where is my phone?” I scrambled through my purse. My hands were shaking and I could feel myself sweating right through the make-up I’d just spent the last of my paycheck on. So much for my cat-eye and subtle glow. I was glowing like a pig now.
“Maria, wait. We can’t call the police. Let me call my dad first, okay?”
He pulled out his phone, while I tried to calm myself down. So my prom date is the son of a mob boss and we just witnessed him probably murdering someone. No big deal right?  It’ll be fine. Everything’s fine. Deep breaths.
‘Hey, uh, Maria? My dad wants to talk to you.”
Me? Why does he want to talk to me?!
@lonfya it’s all you!
lonfya:
“Miss Esposito, I trust you and my son are getting along?” Dominic de Luca’s voice was nothing like my expectations. He sounded more like a man accustomed discussing the merits of expensive wines than one suspected of drowning his rivals in buckets of the cheap stuff. Though I’d hoped I’d never have to play this game, I knew the rules: Show respect. Stick to the facts.
“Yes Sir, Mr de Luca.”
“Good. I’m not going to waste time pretending you don’t understand what’s going on. The original terms of the agreement with your family state that any involvement in our interests would be cause for immediate and…rather final discussions. However, on this one occasion I am willing to overlook your participation. Provided you do something for me.”
Tony had climbed into the front seat and had adjusted the rear-view mirror to get another look at his made-up face, the unblemished skin apparently more interesting than gunshots, a body, and his family’s involvement. I crossed pretty brave off the list of possibilities. “Let me Guess. Keep Tony out of it?”
“Correct. My son isn’t yet aware of what the family business entails. You will do whatever is necessary to keep it that way. In return, I will ensure your involvement remains a secret. Do we have an understanding?”
“Yes Sir, Mr de Luca.”
“Good. Have a nice time at prom. Such a magical evening.”
The line went dead. For years I’d lived with worst-case scenarios in my head. Threats, violence, danger. I’d run through every possible variation. Or so I thought. Protecting the oblivious son of the second most powerful mobster in the country on prom night had somehow never factored into my planning. The way I saw it, there were only two choices.
@lrfya tell us what happens next!
lrfya:
I could keep my mouth shut and have an okay time with Tony at the prom. Or I could do what I’ve trained my entire life to do.
Because the gun shot, Uncle Vito, and the body he dragged out of here? They were all adding up in my head. Someone had been following us, and they’d been taken down by Vito. I knew there was no way in hell that Carlo Esposito, my father and the most powerful mobster in the country, would let me go to prom with Dominic De Luca’s son without sending someone from his security detail to tail me.
And I knew who that someone would be.
Joseph Lucas started working for my dad when he was 12 and I was 10. His dad had been my father’s most dedicated employee until he was killed in a stand off against the De Lucas seven years ago, so Joey’d been around most of my life. He was always such a nightmare–burping in my face and yanking my ponytail. I think my dad felt sorry for him, so once he got old enough, Dad would send him on harmless little errands in exchange for pocket money. When he got older, Joey started boxing with some of the other guys, learning tricks of the trade. And since we were in high school together, Dad eventually hired him to be my own personal security detail.
Emily was the only person who knew why Joey was always hanging around, always in the background, never saying much. My other friends assumed he had a huge crush on me, and couldn’t understand why I didn’t like him back. “He’s so hot,” they’d say. “And cut. And mysterious and brooding.”
Which, objectively, yeah, sure, whatever. But I’d always resented Joey’s presence, even when my dad wanted him all up in my business and Joey kept his distance anyway. Even when we’d spar at the gym and he’d take his shirt off. Even when he was hanging around the house eating my food, and watching my TV and grinning his stupid charming grin.
I resented Joey because I didn’t need a bodyguard. And I don’t mean I didn’t need a bodyguard because I was unsafe. I didn’t need a bodyguard because I could take care of myself.
My dad didn’t trust anyone — not even Joey — to completely leave me in their hands. I’d been trained in Krav Maga, knife-throwing, and three different types of mixed martial arts, all by private trainers from a very young age. I could shoot a gun better than any of my dad’s employees. I knew how to untie 36 different kinds of knots, blindfolded with my hands tied behind my back. And I could track like a hunter.
Dominic wouldn’t have killed Joey outright. He’s too valuable, has too much intel. They most likely wounded him and are keeping him somewhere…Dominic owned commercial property — a bunch of rundown warehouses on the east side of town. It was a starting point, at least.
I buckled my seat belt and turned to Tony. “I have an errand to run. And I’m going to warn you, it’s probably not how you’d like to spend your Saturday. So I’m giving you the opportunity to get out now.”
Tony looked confused. “Get out? We’re in a parking garage! I need a ride home. I’m not getting out.”
I turned the ignition. “Don’t say I didn’t warn you.” As we pulled up to the street, I stopped. Left? Or right? Look for details…Vito would’ve been in a hurry…a big hurry.
I let out a snort when I saw it. “Let me guess. Your Uncle Vito drives a big, black Cadillac Escalade?”
Tony’s brow wrinkled. “Yeah, why?”
I pointed at the black marks freshly smeared across the road…headed east. “I know those tires. It’s like the official car of mobsters everywhere.” I took a deep breath. I had ten hours to find Uncle Vito, get Joey back without being seen, and get to the prom. And somehow keep Tony from figuring out what I was doing. And if I failed? Dominic would probably kill me.
I threw my car to the right and slammed on the gas. “Hold on tight, Tony.”
@fyaorlandonorth y’all take it from here!
fyaorlandonorth:
We drove in silence for half an hour until Tony finally broke it by asking, “Where are we going, Maria?”
I sucked on my lip and glanced over at him. “Your uncle, uh…he took something of mine. I need to get it back.”
Tony turned towards the window so I couldn’t see his face. “You know, I’m not as clueless as you think I am,” he said, continuing darkly. “Or my father thinks I am.”
My eyebrows lifted in surprise. “So you know about—”
“The family business? Your family business?” He cut in. “Enough. So why don’t you just tell me what is really going on?”
In the distance I can see a collection of warehouses near the water, where I’m hoping that Uncle Vito is holding Joey. We’re approaching a small dirt road that seems to meander towards the far end of the buildings, so I hit my blinker and hang a left, coming to a stop just after the turn off. Tony turns to me with a questioning look.
“Alright, I’m just going to lay it all out here. We don’t have time to mess around and I’m done being cautious.” I take a deep breath. “Our dads are some of the biggest Mafia bosses in town. They deal in drugs, but not it’s not the kind you might think.” I feel the words crowding in my mouth, impatient to get out. “There are ways to harness the energy of a large group of people and distill it into an extremely potent yet non-addictive elixir. One drop is better than any high you could imagine, and it lasts for hours. Love, happiness, fear, pain; you name it, they’ve got an elixir for it.”
Tony’s mouth was hanging open, but to his credit, he wasn’t freaking out. “So they…harness the emotions of a crowd?” he asked.
I nodded. “For certain events—like prom, for example—where emotions are heightened, hormones are running wild. Can you imagine the euphoria you would experience if someone put all that energy into a concentrated potion?
“The take is so big that our families will put aside their differences once a year just so we can both get a cut.” I sighed. “I’d finally convinced my dad to put me in charge of making sure things on our end went off without a hitch, but nowyour Uncle Vito has stolen my bodyguard and I need to know why, because from over here, it looks like your dad is planning to turn on us. And if this happens on my watch, I’m going to have to keep a close eye on both sides to make sure my head stays with my body.”
“What you’re saying sounds insane,” Tony said. “But I also feel like it all makes perfect sense.” He squeezed the armrest and swallowed what seemed like a dozen times before giving me a determined nod. “So then let’s go find out what Uncle Vito is up to.”
Run with it, @pghfya!
pghfya:
On the way to Uncle Vito’s lair, I decided on a last minute detour to Taco Bell.  Hey, a girl can get hungry during a Mob chase, and also there was somethingnot on the menu that needed ordering.
“Welcome to Taco Bell, may I take your order?” the speaker blared at me.
“Yeah, can I have a Quesadilla with extra pickles?”
“And a Crunchwrap Supreme!” Tony yells before I can tell him that this isn’t a regular order.
When I pull to the window they hand me a brown paper bag. And then they give me a small plastic one with Tony’s Crunchwrap. I throw over the Crunchwrap and pull away from the window without paying. They know where to get the money for this order.
“I can’t believe you ordered pickles on your quesadilla! That’s so gross. Also, why do they have pickles at a Taco Bell?  This day cannot get weirder!” Tony says around a mouthful of Mexican food.
“I 100% bet that it can.”
I pull into a parking spot and unroll the bag. I’ve never actually had to place this order before, and now that I have, I’m beginning to realize that shit is serious. I look at the Emojiicon Extractor 3000 sitting at the bottom of the bag, take a deep breath and reverse the car. This is going to be one hell of a ride.
When I pull into Vito’s hideout, I notice two things:
There are cows (dairy cows as Tony points out)
Sitting in the field behind the cows is a large, round, silver aircraft of some sort.  If I didn’t know any better, I would say it looks like an alien ship.
“Dude, there are ALIENS here,” Tony says. Well then. I guess I don’t know better.
@fyavanwa What’s next??
fyavanwa:
We quickly fall to a crouch behind a large bale of hay, not ideal for cover, but it’ll do for now. I turn to see what Tony is looking at and promptly whack him upside the head with my empty hand. “Haven’t you ever seen a person in a hazmat suite before!? I thought you were supposed to be some kind of geeky kid, haven’t you ever seen a sci fi flick?” I say in a whisper-yell kind of way.
He gives me a droll look and rubs the back of his head, “It’s a common misconception that to be geeky, one needs to be a sci fi fanatic. I prefer fantasy, like Game of Thrones or DnD. Basically, any kind of RPG or anything really, involving the possibly of dragons.”
“DnD? RPG? Do you only speak in acronyms?”
“Dungeons and Dragons is a type of RPG or Role-Playing Game. But I feel like aliens in general are a big part of science fiction so my original observation wouldn’t be so far outside the realm of possibilities, using your logic of….”
“Shut up…”
I interrupt him, because suddenly I see Vito and the mysterious faced person carrying a slumped over Joey-shaped-lump between them. They are about ten paces ahead of our position and are completely engrossed in watching the hazmat suited people loading large boxes into the round aircraft.
I lean in close to Tony, “So here’s what’s going to happen. I’m going to go take those guys out nice and quiet like. You follow close behind me and catch Joey before he falls and makes a big clattering noise, then we silently take him back to the car and get the hell out of here. You got it?”
“I’m not going to let you kill my Uncle” and for a second I think I see some menace behind his painted face.
“Relax, I’m not going to kill anybody. I can set this emotion extractor in such a way that it will only knock a person out for a short time. Just enough for us to get Joey and book it out of here.”
To his credit, Tony doesn’t ask questions like, “How?” or “Why?” or “What will happen if they catch us?” He just nods his head in grudging trust and acceptance. I engage the Emojiicon Extractor, make sure it’s set right, and with a here-we-go nod to Tony, I spring into action…
•  If you’re looking for your mom to save you, read on for KCFYA's ending.
•  If you’re interested in seeing Maria use the emotion extractor to full effect, read on for LONFYA's ending.

Disney Plus UK movies and shows revealed: here’s the full list at launch
Home
News
The full list of Disney Plus UK films and shows coming in time for launch has been released, and you’re in for a treat. Among the 500 films, 350 shows and 600+ episodes of The Simpsons, you’ve got close to a complete set of Marvel movies and every Star Wars film minus The Rise of Skywalker (which is coming at a later date, Disney UK confirms).
Below, we’ve reproduced the full list, which comes courtesy of Disney and is noted as being correct at the time of issue. Other highlights on Disney Plus UK at launch include James Cameron’s Avatar, the Home Alone trilogy, a payload of Pixar movies and even all of Fox’s X-Men movies (minus more mature films like Logan and Deadpool). You’ve also got 2019’s live-action Aladdin and The Lion King movies to look forward to.
If you like what you see, you can sign up to Disney Plus for a year at just £49.99, which is £10 off when you pre-order before the March 24 release date.
You’d be hard-pushed to find many gaps in there, and you’ve got a lot of TV to get through. Shows like Agent Carter and The Runaways are well worth checking out on the Marvel side, even if their canonical status is a bit dubious.
The full list is gigantic, and it comes direct from Disney, so you’ll have to forgive the odd formatting of some of the content on here. Have a look, then, at the full list of films and shows coming to Disney Plus UK on March 24…

Who Won and What Happened at the 2019 Tony Awards
‘Hadestown’ wins best new musical.
“Hadestown,” a pulsing, poetic contemporary riff on an ancient Greek myth, won the Tony Award for best new musical Sunday night, triumphing over film adaptations, a musical comedy and a jukebox show.
The win, coming at a time when Broadway is enjoying a long-running box office boom, marks the sixth year in a row that Tony voters have chosen an inventive show nurtured by nonprofits over more commercial fare.
“Hadestown,” dreamed up by a Vermont singer-songwriter who as a child became fascinated by the doomed love story of Orpheus and Eurydice, is at once tragic and hopeful, suggesting that the very act of storytelling can be a salve for sadness.
Fueled by a seven-piece onstage band, the blues-and-folk-styled show is set in a jazz club that morphs into an oil drum, and alludes to climate change, labor strife and, indirectly, immigration. The show’s most resonant song, written before Donald J. Trump became president, is called “Why We Build the Wall.”
The musical beat out an original musical comedy, “The Prom,” about a group of narcissistic actors who try to advance their careers with an act of unwanted do-goodism, as well as two stage adaptations of well-known films, “Tootsie” and “Beetlejuice,” and a jukebox musical, “Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of the Temptations.”
All four cost more to bring to Broadway than “Hadestown,” which is also notable for the number of women at the wheel — still a relative rarity in commercial theater.
Two of its lead producers are women, as is the lead producer of “The Ferryman,” which won as best new play, and “Oklahoma!,” which won as best musical revival.
The 73rd annual Tonys ceremony, held at Radio City Music Hall, was a night more buoyant than surprising.
The inventive director of “Hadestown,” Rachel Chavkin, who previously brought “Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812” to Broadway, picked up her first Tony for directing the new musical. She was the only woman nominated as a director of any show this year, a fact that she noted ruefully during her acceptance speech. And she is only the fourth woman ever to win a Tony as director of a musical.
“I wish I wasn’t the only woman directing a musical on Broadway this season,” she said, before calling for greater gender and racial diversity among theater artists and critics.
“This is not a pipeline issue,” she added. “It is a failure of imagination by a field whose job is to imagine the way the world could be.”
“Hadestown” was conceived and written by Anaïs Mitchell, a singer-songwriter with no ties to Broadway (besides a childhood affection for “Les Misérables”), who won a Tony for her score. She began the musical as a DIY community theater project in 2006, touring small Vermont venues in a silver school bus packed with props.
Among the lessons Ms. Mitchell said she learned from working on the show for so long: “Nobody does it alone.”
The show’s other winners included André De Shields, a theater veteran who in 1975 broke out as the title character in “The Wiz.” He won for playing Hermes, a Greek god who serves as the musical’s narrator and travel guide.
“The top of one mountain is the bottom of the next, so keep climbing,” the 73-year-old Mr. De Shields advised as he accepted the award for best featured actor in a musical.
“Hadestown” picked up eight awards in all, including for scenic design by Rachel Hauck; orchestrations by Michael Chorney and Todd Sickafoose; lighting design by Bradley King; and sound design by Nevin Steinberg and Jessica Paz.
The show is shaping up to be a hit, despite a lack of name recognition and a very crowded theatrical marketplace. Since opening in April it has been selling well, and word-of-mouth appears strong.
The other musicals did not go home empty-handed: Santino Fontana, the virtuosic star of “Tootsie,” won as best actor in a musical, and the show’s book writer, Robert Horn, won in his category. “Ain’t Too Proud” picked up an award for Sergio Trujillo’s electrifying choreography.
‘The Ferryman’ ends up on top in a strong season for plays.
“The Ferryman,” a sprawling Irish drama by the English writer Jez Butterworth, won the Tony for best new play, fueled by admiration for its sophisticated storytelling, which manages to be suspenseful and funny and romantic and eerie — all at once.
The category was quite competitive this season, which saw an unusually ambitious assortment of dramas and comedies, heartening doomsayers who have long fretted about the health of plays on Broadway, where the big money and big crowds flock to musicals.
The biggest play of the season — as measured by cost to develop and weekly take at the box office — is “To Kill a Mockingbird.” But it was not nominated for best play, leaving the awards race between “Ferryman” and “What the Constitution Means to Me,” an autobiographical reflection on gender and the law written and performed by the American Heidi Schreck.
The night belonged to “Ferryman,” which considers Ireland’s Troubles as refracted through a boisterous household that includes adults and children, plus a baby, a goose and a rabbit. Sam Mendes won as the play’s director, and Rob Howell won two prizes, for its costume and scenic design.
The also-rans will be fine — both “Mockingbird” and “Constitution” are planning tours, and “Mockingbird” is settling in for an extended run on Broadway.
Ali Stroker becomes first wheelchair user to win a Tony.
One of the night’s emotional highlights: Ali Stroker becoming the first wheelchair user to win a Tony. Ms. Stroker, 31, lost the use of her legs in a car accident at age two; now she is featured as Ado Annie, the lusty young woman who “cain’t say no” in a revival of “Oklahoma!”
“This award is for every kid who is watching tonight who has a disability, who has a limitation or a challenge, who has been waiting to see themselves represented in this arena,” Ms. Stroker said. “You are.”
Among the night’s other winners: The 87-year-old comedian, writer and director Elaine May earned her first Tony, as leading actress in a play, for movingly portraying a woman losing her memory in a revival of Kenneth Lonergan’s “The Waverly Gallery.” Ms. May, who burst onto the scene in the 1950s performing comedy with Mike Nichols, won for her first Broadway role in more than 50 years.
Bryan Cranston, a favorite among Broadway audiences, won his second Tony for the stage adaptation of the film “Network.” Mr. Cranston, 63, starred as Howard Beale, the “mad as hell” anchorman in the classic satire of television news.
“Finally a straight old white man gets a break!” he said, before dedicating his award “to all the real journalists around the world, both in the print media and broadcast media, who actually are in the line of fire with their support of truth.”
“The media is not the enemy of the people,” he said. “Demagoguery is the enemy of the people.”
Stephanie J. Block, a Broadway fan favorite, won her first Tony as one of three women portraying different stages of Cher’s life in “The Cher Show.” The victory is a triumph for Ms. Block, who famously lost out on the lead role in “Wicked” years ago, and who had been nominated twice previously.
She thanked not only God, but also “the goddess Cher.”
Bob Mackie, who designed Cher’s attention-demanding looks for decades, also won, for the show’s costumes.
Celia Keenan-Bolger was named best featured actress in a play for portraying Scout, the daughter of Atticus Finch. in Aaron Sorkin’s new stage adaptation of “To Kill a Mockingbird.” Ms. Keenan-Bolger is 41, and playing Scout both as a young woman and as a child; in her acceptance speech, she praised the novelist Harper Lee “for making the greatest literary heroine of all time.”
And Bertie Carvel won as best featured actor in a play for his portrayal of a young Rupert Murdoch in “Ink,” a British drama about an early chapter in the media titan’s tabloid career.
James Corden proves an amiable host.
The show’s host was James Corden, a lifelong theater lover who won a Tony in 2012 (for “One Man, Two Guvnors”) and who led the ceremony in 2016. He proved, once again, an amiable, apolitical and self-deprecating host.
As the telecast began, Mr. Corden exhorted viewers — who, ironically, were mostly watching on television — to think about getting off their couches and going to see a show. He cracked joke after joke about the challenges facing Broadway — high ticket prices, low artist salaries (at least when compared to television) — but celebrated the joys, and the spectacle, of “actual people in an actual space.”
At one point he showed his father taking a phone call in the audience and describing his whereabouts as “some theater thing James is doing.” Later he joined last year’s hosts, Josh Groban and Sara Bareilles, for a spoof version of “Michael in the Bathroom” — a popular song from the cult Broadway musical “Be More Chill” — the trio joking in a Radio City restroom about their insecurity over the broadcast’s ratings.
And then, saying theater would be more popular if its stars feuded with one another as they do in pop music, he pretended to try to get stage stars to air their grievances with one another, but they mostly just expressed their mutual fandom.
‘Oklahoma!’ wins as best musical revival.
A provocative production of “Oklahoma!” — dark and violent, doubling down on questions the show has always asked about America — won a two-way contest for best musical revival.
The win marked the first time the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic, which first opened in 1943, won a competitive Tony contest although it was honored with a special prize in 1993 for its 50th anniversary.
The new production features video, contemporary dance, and an unsettling depiction of frontier justice that is startling to those accustomed to more traditional versions of the musical.
A starry 50th anniversary staging of “The Boys in the Band,” a pioneering gay drama by Mart Crowley, triumphed in the contest for best play revival.
Mr. Crowley, tearing up as he accepted the award, paid tribute to “the original cast of nine brave men who did not listen to their agents when they were told that their careers would be finished if they did this play.” Several members of the original cast later died of AIDS-related illnesses.
King Kong and Spider-Man’s aunt are already winners.
Each year, noncompetitive Tony Awards are doled out, some of them noted on the televised broadcast, and others presented at earlier ceremonies or during commercial breaks.
The biggest winner this year, at least as measured by tonnage: King Kong. The massive animatronic marionette at the heart of a new stage musical, “King Kong,” was honored with a special Tony, given to his Australian creators, Sonny Tilders and Creature Technology Company.
This Kong is not ambulatory — he’s tethered by cables to the show’s set — so he wasn’t able to travel to Radio City Music Hall. But he appeared on the broadcast by video.
The industry’s annual lifetime achievement awards went to Rosemary Harris — a veteran stage actress, now featured on Broadway in a revival of “My Fair Lady,” who played Aunt May in three Spider-Man films; to the playwright Terrence McNally, whose “Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune” is now running on Broadway; and to the musician Harold Wheeler, best known for his years as musical director of “Dancing With the Stars.”
Among the other honors:
Madeline Michel, the theater director at Monticello High School in Charlottesville, Va., received the Excellence in Theater Education Award. Ms. Michel’s program used drama to explore racial inequality after violence followed a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville in 2017.
The actress Judith Light, a two-time Tony winner, won the Isabelle Stevenson Tony Award, which recognizes volunteerism, in honor of her work on H.I.V./AIDS issues and her support for gay rights.
Marin Mazzie, a beloved stage actress who died of ovarian cancer last year, received a posthumous special Tony Award in recognition of her advocacy for women’s health.
Jason Michael Webb, a composer and musical director, won a special Tony Award for his arrangements of the gospel songs and hymns sung in the play “Choir Boy.” The cast of that play, which closed in March, will reunite to perform at the award ceremony.
The annual Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theater were given to the choir Broadway Inspirational Voices; to Peter Entin, retired vice president of theater operations for the Shubert Organization; to Joseph Blakely Forbes, the founder and president of Scenic Art Studios, Inc.; and to the Theater District’s firehouse, FDNY Engine 54, Ladder 4, Battalion 9.
And the annual regional theater Tony Award went to TheatreWorks Silicon Valley, a nonprofit founded in 1970 that is one of the nation’s few major regional theaters located in suburbia.
The Tony Awards, named for the actress and philanthropist Antoinette Perry, are presented by the Broadway League and the American Theater Wing.
The recipients are chosen by 831 Tony voters, many of whom work in the theater industry and have a financial connection to one or more nominated shows. To be eligible, the shows must have opened by April 25 in one of the 41 Broadway theaters located in and around midtown Manhattan.
Winners will get an eight-inch high statuette featuring a circular silver medallion with the masks of comedy and tragedy on one side and information about the winner on the other.
The awards ceremony takes place at a time when Broadway is booming. Attendance is at record levels — 14,768,254 seats filled during the season that just ended — and so is the total box office, which was just over $1.8 billion.
