Little Lotus scanlation master list

Little Lotus revolves around the protagonist Sakurai Shunsuke’s journey to Vietnam to look for his long lost cousin Nguyễn Chi Liên. Through his journey, the author introduces to the reader the charming scenery of Vietnam.

During wartime, Shunsuke’s grandfather went to Vietnam and fell in love with a Vietnamese girl. However, due to the era’s turbulent developments, Shunsuke’s grandfather, Sakurai Toshinobu, had to go back to Japan and leave his lover behind. Years went by and he found out that his Vietnamese sweetheart was pregnant with his daughter, who eventually grew up, got married and gave birth to Liên. Alas, a terrible car accident killed Liên’s parents, leaving her alone at 15 years old. With much regret, the grandfather asked Shunsuke to visit Vietnam and look for his Vietnamese cousin in hopes of adopting her and bringing her to Japan.

The plot speaks volumes about the consequences of war and family separation. However, the story doesn’t delve too much into history and war; instead using them as background for the introduction of the distinctive culture and food of Vietnam. From the áo dài that Liên wears to iconic landmarks in Vietnam, all of these materials were nicely represented through the manga panels.

Nishiura Kio himself is the son of Vietnamese immigrants to Japan and wanted in his debut manga to write a personal story and introduce Vietnamese representation into Japanese media.

(Please be kind, I’ve never tried translating before, and I’m actually working from the Vietnamese translation because the original Japanese is geolocked on LINE Manga. Some of it might be a little awkward and I apologize. I did my best.)

HYDRA. — How did a hardship in your muse’s life make them stronger?

to be frank, her entire life has been one neverending hardship,, lmao…. but then again, that’s almost to be expected growing up in midgar, let alone anywhere on gaea. it can go without saying that aerith’s been dealt a pretty shitty hand in life, yet she’s known for a really strong resolve and her ability to comfort others in bad situations. whether it be the countless amounts of experiments she was subjected to in her youth to being ghosted ( quite literally,,,, ayyy ) by zack, she’s been able to learn a lot from most every bad experience that’s tested her.. but i think the hardship that really shaped her to be the person she became was the death of ifalna. i think that a lot of people like to make aerith out to be this sugary sweet, naive, carefree little girl… and while she is such a genuinely sweet person, there’s much more going on within her than what meets the eye –––– she certainly isn’t all smiles & sunshine !!  and i can get behind people declaring her as this carefree, vibrant force because these are easily the fundaments of who she is ( give or take a few off days, but obviously that’s accounted for ) but i can never agree with this whole idea of innocence and purity that is always projected onto her. in my opinion, all hopes of innocence for her died when her mom did.

i think that despite what she and her mother were made to go through while in shinra’s captivity, she was still able to maintain some sense of normalcy through her mother’s company. aerith very obviously didn’t spend some of her most important years development-wise in an environment that fostered a good upbringing for children, but being with her mother at least gave her the love and care necessary. when ifalna died, she lost more than just her mother: she lost her best friend, her protector, someone who could understand what she was dealing with, and the only person who actually knew her beyond what her genetics meant –––––– and in her own typical selfless way, aerith didn’t really allow herself to mourn the death of her mother because she had to do what she’d always done, which was to just pick up and move along, no matter how much it sucked. in the game, we see elmyra expressing concern to young aerith, who says she isn’t lonely because her mother has gone to the planet. while i do believe she could find comfort in knowing that her mother had returned to the planet, as aerith is connected to the planet, i believe she coped with her mother’s death in the same way i believe she coped with zack’s death. while she couldn’t outright deny ifalna’s death because it was something done right before her eyes, she clung onto the fact that she knew her mother was somewhere better to feel better about not being with her anymore. 

aerith never got to fully heal from the loss of her mother. she took to elmyra fabulously, and while she was able to give aer a shot at living a decently normal life ( aside from the occasional harassment from the turks, ofc ) one could easily say that the happiness she got from being with elmyra, which was definitely true and pure, also served as a distraction. the only time we see aerith visibly very upset in canon ( or at least, that i can remember lmao ) is in cosmo canyon, where she tells cloud that she’s truly alone. this is proof to me that she still had a long way to come in terms of overcoming the loss of her mother, but i think that each step she took towards acceptance made her immensely stronger. aerith idolized her mother and was motivated by the memories of ifalna’s love and her sacrifice. she’d consider herself lucky if someone told her she was even an 1/8th of the woman her mother was. even when she does want to cry or give up, she can remember the strength of her mother and always prepare for a new day. :’)

1. Describe your comfort zone—a typical you-fic.

Angst, smut, or angsty smut. I love giving people feels. I have many friends who curse me for this because of the feels I give them. Hell, I had a friend cussing me out just this last week cause of feels. (Asi I am looking at you.)

I just don’t write much smut right now cause I’m burnt out.

OH MAN I have a bunch (going to share the ones I am actively working on). Going to be under a cut for possible length;

“The Death of a God” 

I have like 1-2 pages done of this, but basically Tim and my OC Ffamran cope with Handsome Jack’s death. Takes place between BL2 and TFTBL, after Jack is killed by the vault hunters, and after Ffam makes his mission to Sanctuary to get Jack’s mask back. I just had this idea in my head for some angst with Tim and Ffam post Jack.

Excerpt; 

Ffamran hadn’t realized he was crying until Tim reached over to brush a tear away with one thumb, eyes meeting the assassin’s own. 

“I wanted to come back you know, I—I think I could have kept him from spiralling as bad as he did. I know it’s cocky to say but, we kind of grounded each other. Maybe I could have saved him, I could have saved Angel. The guilt eats at me, Tim.”

Between TPS and BL2 but set in a world where Ffam made it back to Helios (very pregnant during/before the attack, or after the attack by dahl), and helps Jack adjust. He makes sure Angel doesn’t go through the horrors she did in the core. This is one of those dreaded fics where Angel grows up happy with Jack being a decent father. Though in this one Angel has 4 protective fathers (Jack, Tim, Ffam, and Rhys). 

In this fic, Ffam went to Elpis with Angel to check out the vault Jack opened during TPS, but they got cornered by some scavengers. Ffam gets injured protecting Angel.

Excerpt;

“Mission on Elpis went badly, I only just got him to settle down enough to sleep.” He pulled back the blanket so Rhys could see where the cybernetic leg was gone, his good leg bandaged around the calf. “Jack’s got someone repairing the leg. The hardest part was getting him to let someone look at his other leg.”

Z/Ash ABO

I’m a sucker for ABO and bratty omegas, anyone who read my stuff from my SPN days knows this. Z and Ash are from Sh.errilyn K.enyon’s dark hunter series, and this basically takes place during Night Embrace. I had been thinking about writing some ABO for the series with omega Z for a while. 

Excerpt; 

“Zarek?” It was Acheron’s voice that brought him back to his senses, the omega’s eyes blown wide, breathing hard. He could feel his heat teasing at the edges of his mind, letting him know it would be coming, and soon.

“Shite.”

“Oh fuck—is psycho-ass an omega?”

“Excellent observation.” Valerius’ tone was dry, though he was smirking and it made Zarek want to punch that smug expression off his face. “I was going to warn you lot, but I figured it would come up in time. He was pretty passive during heats back in the day, seeing as he’s no better than an animal now—”

Zarek’s upper lip curled, claws out as he went to lash out at the other man. It was Acheron’s hand on his wrist that stopped him, unfortunately. He was pulled back against the other hunter’s chest, going still before looking over his shoulder at Ash. The Atlantean’s eyes were focused on the group.

Chapter 5! Fans of my Castle AU Captain Swan fic will be happy to know it is in progress! We’re getting into some dirty history with Killian, and tension between him and Emma. As well as things are being aired out between Killian and Graham. This is a project I’ve been working on for a while, and love it dearly, especially as it’s a world that a friend and I have been building together on our rp blogs.

Excerpt;

“Don’t. I needed you, Graham. You and Liam both, but he was busy with his campaigning and I couldn’t drag him down again, and you wouldn’t answer. What else did I have left?” He could feel tears forming at the corners of his eyes, and he hated it.

“It’s not like you tell anyone, Killian. You snap at people before they can even get to know you.”

There’s a hollow laugh following Graham’s words, and had they been alone he might have punched his old friend for that. “Y’say as though there’s anyone t’ tell. ‘Sides, y’know I keep people out ‘cause they end up hurtin’ me once I let them in. Better to keep myself from getting hurt than to risk it. After all, I trusted you didn’t I? And when I needed you the most you were nowhere t’ be found. Couldn’t even answer your bloody phone.” 

“Killian—”

1. If you had to be gay for a day, what celebrity would you most like to take on a date? 

It’s arduous to project the kind of girl that’ll draw my attention. But since I have the hots for nerdy guys (with fast-paced speech, silly gesticulations, and, of course, glasses!) like John and Hank Green, I’ll probably go for girls with such similitudes. Hmmm... Emily Graslie, perhaps?

(Boy) Vandesdelca ‘Van’ Musto Fende The big brother of Tear. As the result of his upbringing as an orphan at early age, as well as being the oldest in the orphanage, he became precocious, looking after his sister in their parents’ absence and willing to help the caretakers attending the other children while also struggling on his study. He was an amiable fellow and well-respected throughout the orphanage. Currently in the last year of senior-high and busy preparing himself for a law school. 

(Girl) Mystearica ‘Tear’ Aura Fende  Van’s baby sister who adored him dearly. She had grown into somewhat a wallflower; a shrinking violet. Although shy around people, Tear was a girl with a strong moral compass, never quivered to defend her friends from bullies. Like her brother, she had a beautiful, melodious voice that had brought her to become a choir member in both the town’s church, alongside Van, and her school. Currently a seventh-grader. 

(Boy) Ffamran ‘Balthier’ mied Bunansa Both dashing and quick-witted, Balthier was the conspicious of all. His charm and eloquence could easily impress anyone he met, thus making him the most popular kid around. Albeit a bit self-centered at times, Balthier could show his altruitic side, especially when it came to his bestfriend’s affairs, Ramza. Currently a ninth-grader and a valuable player of his school’s basketball team. 

(Boy) Ramza Lugria Beoulve A boy who survived from a wildfire that burned an entire village, including his parents, his beloved sister Alma, and his bestfriend Delita Heiral. His meek and tender disposition clicked perfectly with Balthier’s smug and jaunty manner, therefore creating a bridge of trust between them. Ramza had an eye for world history, spending most of his time in the library to read books and write essays. Currently a ninth-grader and established a close relationship with the history teacher Goffard Gaffgarion. 

(Boy) Edgar Roni Figaro Sabin’s older twin brother who was an electronics hobbyist and a gamer. He was the technician around the house, repairing the appliances and, sometimes, modifying them. Knowing very well that he had insufficient funds to begin with, he befriended Cid Del Norte Marquez and worked at the latter’s workshop as a part-timer. Though a geek at heart, Edgar didn’t constrain himself as a mere geek; he was surprisingly flirtatious, but to no avail. Currently an eleventh-grader. 

(Boy) Sabin Rene Figaro   Edgar’s younger twin brother. Unlike his prudent and erudite twin, Sabin was quick-tempered and straightforward, and excelled at physical activities, particularly martial arts. Under the tutelage of his karate master Cyan Garamonde, Sabin achieved black-belt in a no-time and had won many tournaments. Of all their differences, he and his brother shared the same unflappable determination and ambitions. Currently an eleventh-grader.

(Girl) Estellise “Estelle” Sidos Heurassein Cute, courteous, and bright; Estelle clearly caught everyone’s attention, but still being humble as she looked up to Philia. She was one of those bibliophiles who could even recite various passages from heart. After the incident involving her two bestfriends, Yuri Lowell and Flynn Scifo, Estelle promised herself to become a splendid doctor, thus leading her to be studious, hoping to obtain a scholarship. Currently a tenth-grader, a model student, and a member of the science club. 

(Girl) Margarita “Rita” Blastia Mordio A curious prodigy with an IQ of 160; however, lacked of social competence. She liked to correct people whose perceptivity was wrong, which inadvertently annoyed them unbeknownst to her. Rita was close to Raine’s little brother Genis due to their similar level of intelligence and close age, and to Estelle who always welcomed her presence. Currently a fifth-grader. 

(Boy) Genis Kloitz Sage The genius younger brother of caretaker Raine whose brain power could disparage the grown-ups’. Even as a child, he could solve his sister’s undergraduate math problems and sometimes engaged in Edgar’s projects. Due to his superior intellect, he demonstrated repellent disposition and was cynical towards others, but would greatly respect everyone with the same intelligence as him. Currently a sixth-grader and had a crush on his P.E. teacher Presea Combatir. 

(Girl) Rutee Atwight Katrea An upbeat, tomboyish lass with misunderstandable attitude. Having a firm moral sense yet being irascible at the same time, Rutee could easily pick a fight with anyone she deemed erroneous. Despite this shrewish demeanor, she was in fact solicitous and attentive towards her close relations. Due to the hapless circumstances, Rutee became eager to earn money, working as anything as her employer wanted her to be. Currently an eighth-grader. 

(Girl) Philia Clemente Felice Like your everyday bespectacled girl, Philia was smart, genteel, and naive; pretty much a foil to Rutee. A devout Christian, she highly regarded her belief and attended the church every week. Through her science teacher Batista Diego, nature and chemical experiments had greatly interested her as she aimed to be a chemist in the future. Currently an eleventh-grader, a model student, and the chairwoman of the science club.

(Girl) Rydia Asura Mist The youngest and newest in the orphanage, being five years in age. She was rescued by the sailors Cecil Harvey and Kain Highwind from ship drowning, a disaster that killed her mother and developed her fear of waterbody. She loved animals dearly as she often visited the town’s farm and pet house with the company of one of the caretakers.

A Short History of Nearly Everything (by Bill Bryson)  I know Sagan’s Cosmos and Hawking’s The Brief History of Time are popular as hell, but hell... they were published in the 80′s (but still gold though, you really should check them out). We need newer ones and Bryson’s is certainly the best--for me, at least, at this time--in elaborating big history and the development of science. 

Why Evolution Is True (by Jerry A. Coyne)  A nifty allusion for Darwin’s The Origin of Species. No. Don’t protest. Dawkins probably produces more of this kind of books than Coyne does and, of course, is far more popular than any evolutionary biologists alive. Dawkins is a brilliant writer and all, but Coyne has the apt for making the theory easier to comprehend. 

Little Women (by Louisa M. Alcott)  Still the best bildungsroman. Ever. 

Speaker for the Dead (by Orson S. Card)  Sci-fi, philosopy, anthropology, politics, religion; all in one. Yes. I’m such a weirdo to enjoy the second book far more than the first one.

So I could just translate Little Lotus, which would make reading it so much faster, but I like to read all the text on a page and then look at the art and how they go together. I feel like I’d be missing half the story if I only read the text, and I’m not great at visualizing them together so I can’t just hold the translation and the page in two different windows.

But it is SO slow going. It’s a little faster now that I’ve got the keyboard down, but it still takes me anywhere from ten to forty minutes to translate the text, set it, and redraw anything that needs redrawing. (Thank you, clone tool, for help on that last part.)

It’s such a cute manga though. It’s being praised for talking about difficult issues like the Vietnam War, and for taking place in Vietnam and showcasing important cultural landmarks, but it’s also most definitely a food/cooking manga, and since I know very little about Vietnamese cuisine it’s super interesting to me.

It’s no secret that I love Pokemon. Like, I LOVE Pokemon. I have a lot of original characters for other series that I love and have loved since I was a kid, series that I still love and keep up with today as an adult, but I have one OC who has never, ever changed, since I created her when I was a little girl. She has always had the same occupation, the same love interest, the same pokemon. So I went ahead and made her a heavily detailed trainer card/profile!

Meet Miki, the Eevee breeder!

Biography

Miki has used Molly Hale’s pre-teen design since her movie came out in 2001. She’s one of the very first OCs I ever created. She is not Molly - she is a separate person.

Miki and her sister Nana were born in Ecruteak City, Johto. Their grandmother was a Kimono Girl, and because of her, Miki developed her fascination with Eevees. Miki and Nana began their journey as rivals, Miki with a Cyndaquil and Nana with a Totodile. They also each were given an Eevee by their grandmother.

Miki and Nana’s parents, evolution researchers, taught them to take a different approach to training and the gym challenge than others. Some pokemon trainers set out at the tender age of ten years old like the legendary Red, and others set out later. Some complete the challenge at a maddening pace like Blue, but Miki preferred to take the time to learn from and train with the gym leaders she would eventually battle, if they would have her. This led to deep, intense bonds with her pokemon, and her first Eevee evolved into an Umbreon during her second Johto gym battle.

Miki decided to travel the world around the time she completed the Indigo League, learning from experts and gym leaders, discovering different Eevees, and began breeding soon after entering the Orange League. Her first baby Eevees were evolved into a Vaporeon and a Flareon, respectively. 

By the time of the Hoenn League, Miki had begun to wonder if battling was all there was. She discovered that in Hoenn, pokemon could enter Contests, and she enlisted her Umbreon, a four time League champion, in one. They lost. Contests were not like battling at all. Nana, who was not in Hoenn at the same time, encouraged her sister, and sent her countless articles about Contests from the region she was currently traveling through. Miki spent the longest time in Hoenn, putting off the gym challenge for months while focusing on Contests, eventually winning her first one with her Umbreon. 

Miki was in her late twenties by the time she retired to the Pasio region, a small, quiet place. She was asked, for a time, to run a gym, being a highly decorated League champion from another region, and she agreed until Pasio got its own gym system running. She used her Eevees, for whom she was well known - her Umbreon, her Jolteon, and her Sylveon - and gave the Heart Badge to those who defeated her. The Heart Badge was retired after her gym closed, and special recognition given to those in the Pasio League who possess it. 

Miki lives on a large farm outside of Centra City, Pasio. She runs a dedicated Eevee breeding program, breeding Eevees for battle, show, companionship, or breeding. Her former non-Eevee battling companions live in peaceful retirement, and any wild pokemon who wander in are welcome.

Setting

Miki’s world is ever so slightly AU from the actual Pokemon world. It includes the world of the fanmade Pokemon Uranium and its Tandor region, and Mega Evolutions are permanent evolutions, Z Crystals being a kind of evolution stone. The timeline of her Eevee evolutions also does not follow game canon.

This canon is a mix of the games, anime, and manga, similar to how I constructed my C’est la Vie 5 manga. Not everything that happened in one medium is canon, and in addition there is a lot of my own fanon mixed in as well. Most of this takes place in my own head, having stewed there since I was eleven years old.

Named Eevees

An Eevee breeder, Miki of course has dozens of Eevees and their evolutions running around. Ten have names, and these are the Eevees that have traveled with Miki, battled with her, won Contests, and been there through it all. 

1. Umbreon: Nicknamed YAN YAN, this Eevee was bred by Miki’s grandmother and is the brother of Nana’s Eevee. Yan Yan is the oldest Eevee in Miki’s possession, having known her since she was a child and becoming hers once she set out on her journey. He is her strongest pokemon and her most highly decorated. He is one of her top breeders, and any Eevee fathered by him commands top dollar. His best friend is Abbi.

2. Glaceon: Nicknamed GLACIE, this Eevee was her second ever to evolve. Glacie appears dainty and frail like melting ice, which is part of a carefully calculated plot to make the opposing pokemon feel bad and resist attacking her. Her Ice attacks were deadly and when she was in battling form, Glacie was too. Glacie was always a motherly type, and took care of every pokemon on Miki’s team. Her first babies were the Eevees that became a Vaporeon and Flareon. She has several ribbons and did quite well in contests, but all Glacie ever wanted was to be a mom. She has retired from breeding, though she still mothers all the baby Eevees. Her partner is Luxe.

3. Vaporeon: Nicknamed RAINER, the daughter of Yan Yan the Umbreon and Glacie the Glaceon. Rainer is a powerhouse of a pokemon, one of the most powerful Miki possesses, and the second most decorated, taking after her father. When Miki leaves home, Rainer is one of the pokemon tasked with protecting her.

4. Flareon: Nicknamed PYRO, the son of Yan Yan the Umbreon and Glacie the Glaceon, and the younger brother of Rainer the Vaporeon. Pyro takes after his mother and likes playing with the baby Eevees. He and his sister do very well in Contests, especially as a team with their fire and water displays. He does not have the focus to compete in contests fully and Miki retired him; he nannies the baby Eevees.

5. Leafeon: Nicknamed LEAFY, Miki found him in the wild. He had been abandoned by a previous abusive trainer, and adjusting badly to life in the wild. Miki spent several weeks earning his trust and tending to his wounds. She offered to bring him with her, stating that he would never have to do anything he didn’t want to. Leafeon is a companion pokemon; his best friends are Sylvie and Nines.

6. Nucleon: Nicknamed NUKU NUKU. Nuku Nuku is the other fully evolved Eevee Miki has caught, this time in the Tandor region. Her sister Nana, having reached Tandor and deciding to settle there, was thoroughly immersed in the discovery of the Nuclear type and the absolute devastation it had wrought on the environment and she’d persuaded her sister to journey to Tandor after competing in the Hoenn League. Their parents joined them, curious at how pokemon could seemingly change their type (as Nuclear seemingly corrupts known pokemon like Pikachu into “Nuclear Pikachu”, for example), but upon learning this was not a new sort of evolution, they became disinterested and returned home to Johto. Nuku Nuku is technically Miki’s strongest pokemon, because of the inherent overpoweredness of the Nuclear type, but Miki only brings Nuku Nuku into battle against the strongest trainers or threats. Nuku Nuku is lazy and enjoys napping in the shade.

7. Espeon: Nicknamed ESPY, this Eevee has the distinction of being the last Miki ever caught in the wild. Bold, sassy, and determined, Espy can battle, she just prefers not to. Espy was born to be a star, and holds the rank of Grand Champion in every Contest she has ever competed in. Miki is flooded with requests for Eevees mothered by Espy, who is, as one judge described her, “the most perfect specimen of an Espeon ever born.” 

8. Sylveon: Nicknamed SYLVIE, this Eevee is the son of Yan Yan the Umbreon and Espy the Espeon. He has all of his mother’s beauty and all of his father’s power and the combined charm of both. (Thankfully, he also got his father’s laid back attitude.) Sylvie loves life. Sylvie loves Contests and battling. And Sylvie loves Miki. There are very few things Sylvie doesn’t love.

9. Jolteon: Nicknamed SPARKY, the ambitious son of Yan Yan the Umbreon and Glacie the Glaceon. He was born nearly at the same time as Sylvie, and sees Sylvie as his rival. He is not as powerful as his father, and sometimes is not entirely in control of his own electricity, striving to be the best for himself and for Miki. Sparky enjoys picking on Espy.

10. Eevee: Nicknamed POOF, this Eevee resembles a Gigantamax Eevee but as a normal sized Eevee. She has a huge mane and a playful nature. She is a companion and Miki hopes to use her for Contests. Poof was a gift from Miki’s friend Shiru.

11. Eevee: Nicknamed SILVER, this shiny Eevee was a surprise! His father is Pyro the Flareon and his mother is Espy the Espeon. Miki hopes Silver will help her be able to breed more shiny Eevees for Contests, but for now he is a companion.

Named Pokemon in the Eevee Project

Some pokemon are not Eevees but Miki has included them in her Eevee breeding project, for various reasons.

1. Luxray: Nicknamed LUXE, Miki was forced to take this pokemon along after it took a liking to the Eevee that eventually became Glacie the Glaceon, after saving it from a wild Manetric. Based on Luxray having been the father of all my Eevees in his debut game. I love you, Luxray, I never forgot.

2. Mega Absol: Nicknamed SOSO, Miki stumbled upon an Absol and her cub while on her way to Lavaridge Town in Hoenn, being pelted with rocks. Not understanding Absols’ reputation as the harbringer of misfortune, Miki scolded the people responsible and she and Yan Yan the Umbreon ran after the mother and baby to see if they were okay. The mother growled and wouldn’t let them near, so Miki left some Berries and food for them and sat a little ways away. Absol had been trying to warn the town of the oncoming storm, which took out power to the town, but because of Miki’s kindness, Absol let Miki and Yan Yan shelter in her cave until the sky cleared. Soso and her cub left Lavaridge with Miki, and live in happy retirement on Miki’s ranch, where her warnings are taken seriously and the other pokemon love her.

3. Absol: Nicknamed ABBI, the son of Soso. Despite his very rough start in life, Abbi has grown up knowing love and affection from Miki and her pokemon and fiercely defends his friends, Miki’s property, and Miki. When Miki leaves the farm, Abbi stays behind to guard the babies. His best friend and father figure is Yan Yan the Umbreon.
