Oakly Is Just The Figurehead/Q and A with Oakly/Obake/Zykira

So, as a system I try to give each of us some things where we can have some sort of recognition. So since my Tumblr is mostly about BH6 and Oakly can hop dimensions she’s simply the figurehead. But I assure you, I (Zykira -the main fronter and owner of the body) is usually the one posting. If Oakly is sharing her story though, that’s her posting. Some of us might post and you’ll never know which of us is. The whole AU about Obake winning isn’t a fanfiction to us, to her it was a very real experience. Though reliving it isn’t always fun, she hopes that you guys can come to at least find it interesting. So that maybe reliving those memories or her time in that dimension wasn’t a waste. Though she’s 183 years of age, it’s not unlikely that she has a lot of story to tell. But we’ll stick to the Big Hero 6 stuff. Oh btw, Obake, Oakly and I are all open for questions! YSEALI Seeds: Pongo Academy

About the project

Protection of Gunung Palung National Park (TANAGUPA) has been an important step in protecting Kalimantan’s unique species of flora and fauna including the orangutans. However, like national parks worldwide the banning of traditional use by local communities has had devastating effects on the surrounding human communities and surrounding forests. In particular, many Kalimantan’s young women are suffering from poor health, education, and economic opportunities. This initiative will be an incubator program to create a path to economic independence for these young women while jump-starting the area’s ecotourism economy by training Indonesia’s first entirely female ecotourism ambassadors and tour guide certification body to ensure high standards as well as the digital entrepreneurship through various capacity building.

Why do you care about this specific topic/issue?

The forests around Gunung Palung National Park (TANAGUPA) have been fragmented, degraded and vulnerable to conversion, rapid expansion of plantation activities, illegal encroachment, and illegal logging resulting in forest loss. This problem arises because of the inadequate support for communities living around the forest. Thus, the need to encourage alternative sustainable livelihoods. In 2008, the Government of Indonesia issued a social forestry policy whereby the community obtained Forest Management Rights for 35 years through a social forestry scheme. The Ketapang District currently has 12 community forest licenses.  Therefore, we see there’s an opportunity to start the project of developing this community from the one of the most important layers, young women. By doing this we hope to give them the ability to create alternative livelihoods and contribute to the development of their villages.  

Why did you decide to start this project?

We think there is an urgent need to protect High Conservation Value Forests that are threatened in the Ketapang District. One of them is in Laman Satong Village, Ketapang Regency where the opportunity for community-based forest management has very significant potential to ensure long-term conservation and build community capacity, especially amongst the young women living in the village, so that they can use the natural resources sustainably to increase their well-being.

What are your goals for this project?

The activities are described in three main objectives: 1) young women training for tourism management (including tour guide); 2) “women-preneurship” training; 3) forest and orangutan ambassador marketing training. At the end of the project, we will ensure the young woman have the skills of these three points to implement them into their daily livelihood. Specifically, for the digital entrepreneurship and tour guide training because the four villages we will be trained to have the potential for tourism activity in Ketapang as well.

How will YSEALI Seeds help you achieve your goals?

YSEALI seeds really helps us to implement these ideas by supporting our main financial needs. Other than that, by the wide networking of YSEALI, we also have the opportunity to discuss our project with some of our colleagues from the YSEALI network who have similar project activities with the young woman, so that we can ensure the effectiveness and efficiency while running this project on the ground.

What have you accomplished and implemented so far?

We have done the core part of this project which are the workshops in four villages. Generally, it ran well. We have the chance to train 60 young women total in four villages including Laman Satong village. We also worked with the local government to implement the projects.  To ensure sustainability, we have already connected the young woman with the local start up, Parahita Borneo that will agree to buy the eco polybag from the group of young women we have trained with the skill of eco polybag weaving. Parahita Borneo completed their planting project last July and involved the alumni of Pongo Academy who also bought the eco polybag from them for a total of 500 sold polybags.

What are the most significant lessons learned you’ve experienced so far?

The passion young women have when given the platform to explore and enhance their skill. We were amazed at the brilliant vision of these young women to develop their own villages. We feel Pongo Academy could be the first step forward for these communities at a local and governmental level. We’ve also learned how significant it is to involve women as the part of solution in order to preserve nature.

What are the success stories you can share with others who would like to do the same type of activity and/or project like yours?

To listen to them and make the project suit their needs. Pongo Academy is aware of the importance of the digital world, and they themselves like to surf social media. Therefore, we created the digital entrepreneurship workshop and marketing to bridge the expansion of social the need for entrepreneurship skills for these young women. Our advice would be, before starting the project, spend time assessing and adjusting, so you can have a clear justification for your project implementation and ensure the right workshops are created for your target audience.

Project Protection: AKA Oakly. (In one dimension she works for Obake in replacement of Noodle Burger Boy.) 184 years of age.  Cyborg. Capable of hopping dimensions. 4′ 6″ (with ears) 4′ 0″ (without her mech. ears) Project Protection was designed as a weapon to protect people in higher places. Presidents, the rich, whoever would and could afford her. She was a government project. Best with hand-to-hand combat. Skilled in assassination, theft and spying.  Mostly blind in her left eye. Mute with ears that create expression. A mask to hide scars from surgeries. Retractable claws that add extra punch when retracted. All metal made of titanium. Highly immune to venoms, poisons, and other toxins. Extremely poweful immune system and immediate antibody responses to deadly diseases and viruses.  Computer brain allows for this along with anti-aging abilities. Immortal until killed. Fights at extremely high speeds, giving enemies little to no reaction time. Often aims for the eyes, puncturing the eyes means either blinding or death, depending on how far her claws reach in. Either way, effective. Low stamina. Capable of taking on several enemies but tends to grow weary fairly fast. Needs only a few minutes of rest to build this back up. Deadly accuracy. Strength of three men. Other weaknesses include electrical shocks, sticky things, loud radio frequencies or frequency jammers, several distracting noises, as she relies heavily on her ears over her eyes when fighting. Other weaknesses include water, great at swimming but cannot fight well when in the water, and exposed areas on the body. Places that aren’t her mask or her arm coverings. The claws are only removable by surgery and even then would not be wise to remove. Ears also only removable by surgery, not attached to mask. Mask clicks onto the ears to stay on. The mask CAN be knocked off but it’s very difficult.  Defied creators, can still be controlled with a remote. Not a mind control thing, more just like an extremely painful shock to keep her in line.
