Today, I answer the question: Why I Decided to Self-Publish Project Monroe instead of going the traditional route? While it is still early and things could very well change, I thought I would share my thoughts behind this important decision-making.

In celebration of my birthday, I present to you another character and character aesthetic from #ProjectMonroe!
INTRODUCING...EBONY!
A BIT OF BACKSTORY:
Ebony works for the antagonist of the novel (yet to be named). She works in various roles that she (the antagonist) gives her i.e. nursing, business, entertaining, etc. Monroe and Ebony quickly form a connection and they become quick friends before it (slowly) grows to something else.
Ebony is a Cambion, her mother is a human and father a demon. But she doesn't let who she is define her. She is headstrong, loyal, devoted, and always believes in doing what is right.
Some fun facts:
馃 Ebony wasn't in the original drafts of Project Monroe.
馃 Ebony's role and character evolved over the course of my writing Project Monroe when she does appear.
馃 Ebony's full name is Evelyn Ebony Carlisle, but she prefers to go by her middle name.
I hope you are as excited to meet Ebony! I can't wait for you to all read Project Monroe one day.
鉂わ笍,
Brianna

Working on my Series Bible
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
SNEAK PEEK!
After years and years of fighting, I鈥檝e decided to bite the bullet and finally get serious about starting a series binder. It鈥檚 starting to come together, and by that I mean鈥 only have the table of contents, but that鈥檚 something right? At least I have a game plan. Right now, I鈥檓 working hard on the outline and I鈥檓 hoping to be done with all five (yes, five) of the outlines of the series by the end of this year.
What about you? What do you do before you write a book series? Do you plan sporadically or do you have to have a series binder?

What I Learned After Drafting #ProjectMonroe...
.
.
.
.
.
.
EXCERPT:聽
It's been a little over a week since I officially finished the final draft of #ProjectMonroe. Currently, I'm taking a step back from working on 聽Project Monroe to get my mind fresh and come back to work on it with a clear head. While I'm taking a break from the project, I'm moving on with my writing, focusing on other projects both big and small.
And I wanted to share with you all some things I have learned from drafting #ProjectMonroe and what I'm taking with my next big project (which I'm currently working on) and other writing. Take this as a cautionary tale when approaching your own novel/project.
Everyone has their own processes when it comes to writing.
Everyone has their own approach. Some people like to spend months planning their WIP, while others like to pants their way through their WIP and work out logistics as they come to it or afterwards. And there is nothing with either approach. They're both valid approaches when it comes to writing your project.
#ProjectMonroe was the very first novel I seriously sat down and wrote. There are multiple different versions/drafts that tell virtually the same story more or less. Making some changes when there were some parts that I didn't much care for or like...which could be a lot.
During that time I picked up and dropped other projects. Projects that I thought would go somewhere, but ultimately get there. Every time I would get to this point, and focus on them...only to return to the project and have to throw it all out and start from scratch AGAIN.
And I kept going in an endless cycle as I pursued perfection for a project that wasn't really well-put together in the first place. I'm not saying I'm abandoning the project. (Hell, no...we're too far down the rabbit hole.) But I'm just going to say the revision process is going to be a bitch.聽

Did you miss me?
Last week, I had originally planned for a blog post to talk all about television. More specifically my favorite television series. Only, I was nearing the end of #ProjectMonroe and I really wanted to focus on that. Towards the end of last week, I thought I would have to cancel/postpone this week's blog as well. But, I managed to complete the final draft of #ProjectMonroe, and I'm so happy, excited, and relieved!
I feel like a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders, you know, even though it's temporary.
So in light of everything that is going on recently, I've decided not to post the television blog just yet. I'm going to offer an update (of sorts) of my plans after #ProjectMonroe. I'm not going to talk about #ProjectMonroe in great detail because I plan on having a separate update regarding that project, but I may talk briefly about it.
This update is just to share my plans and what's going on while I let the project breathe a little.

NEW: In today's post I highlight my mindset on why I switched gears and put aside #ProjectMonroe and decided to focus on a new project. It's me basically saying that I'm starting over, and that's okay.

WIP UPDATE #1: Starting Revisions, Working on Multiple Projects?!?, and other writing projects.
.
.
.
.
EXCERPT:聽
I promised, a while ago, to give an update on my writing projects, specifically #ProjectMonroe. But I was waiting to do it for something special...but I've decided to go down a different route. So here we are. I've been working on various different projects this past month or so, and I'm so excited to start talking about them...even if I can't go into extreme detail yet.
Project Monroe has been a project I've been working on for almost a decade now. Yep. You read that right: a decade. I've been stuck in drafting hell because I cannot, for the life of me, stick to a damn outline. And I've tried...I've tried really hard to stick to an outline. But my characters always seemed to have a mind of their own and start going down paths of their own. I, being the indecisive person that I am, just follow them.
I have no backbone in my body.
I can't stick to the plan, so my constant drafting of the project was just me trying to find the path that made me happy. And I finally (this year) wrote a draft that made me happy. I finished it mid-September, and I took a step back from the project trying to keep my mind off of it. I worked on other projects, which I will get to in just a moment, and tried to create some distance from the world and the writing of Project Monroe.
#
After I finished Project Monroe, I took a step back from writing. I didn't want to jump into any major projects after finishing such a...huge project. But I also didn't want to stop writing. I didn't want my writing skills to get too rusty. I wanted to keep the wheels of creativity running. So I took a day or two...perhaps even three days, before I sat down and started writing two short stories.
#
I was trying to come up with a project to work on while I was working on revisions for Project Monroe. For me, it wasn't that hard. Only two projects came to mind: Project Wonderland and the Time Travel book. For some reason, I really wanted to write something set in the 1940s and/or the 1800s.
Originally, I was working diligently to plan out the story. I wanted it to be a standalone. But as I sat down and wrote the storylines for some odd reason, my brain decided to split the novel into three parts. Don't know why. It just happened.
