Project 4: 3 Project Ideas
Idea #1
FORM: The final form will be an acrylic painting on heavy weight, 16x20 sized paper. The work will be displayed by hanging on the way in the gallery space.
PROCESS: I will use images as references to first draw out the intended image, then paint it.
CONTENT: This painting will represent how it feels to be stuck in your own head, because that can be a “place” in itself. As a person who deals with anxiety every second of the day, I know first-hand how it feels to overthink everything and get completely stuck in your head. The painting will be a visual representation of this feeling. As the viewer is looking at it, I hope it provokes an uneasy feeling and remind the viewer how it feels to be stuck in their own head.
Idea #2
FORM: The form will be either paintings on individual 9x12 (or maybe 8x10) canvases, or individual illustrations on 9x12 (or 8x10) sized paper. Either way, they will be displayed by hanging on the wall next to each other horizontally. I’m still debating the media that I’ll use, but if it were painted on canvas, it would probably be acrylic. If I chose to do the illustrations, I would probably use black ink, and water soluble colored pencils to potentially add color.
PROCESS: I will use google maps to find aerial view images of places of personal importance. I will grid these images and use this to draw them onto the canvases or paper. I will then recreate the images by painting or finishing the illustration. I will change things in the images to make them as up-to-date as possible.
CONTENT: The paintings/illustrations will be of places that are very important to me, and that have impacted my life in some way. I believe the images will be visually appealing, and interesting, even though people may not know the exact locations. Also, one way to think about it is that if there are loved ones who have passed away, they are looking down on you.
Idea #3
FORM: A series of 4 illustrations done on 8x8 paper, made with ink and colored pencil. The illustrations will be displayed in a grid like fashion together.
PROCESS: For this project, I will use reference images to draw out my illustrations. I will first use pencil, then outline in pen/ink, and use colored pencil to add color in areas to add emphasis. This is not my usual mediums, but I kind of want to do something different for this project.
CONTENT: This work plays with the idea of being “out of place”. I want these drawings to be silly and fun. While I don't have specifics nailed down yet, these are some ideas I had for the illustrations: and elephant in a library, a different looking person in a line of similar looking people, a different looking house on the street of all similar houses, a polar bear on the beach, etc. These are just the first things that came to my mind, and might not be ones that I use, but I hope my idea still comes across.

BLUE VELVET
I watched David Lynch’s blue velvet for the idea of it being a seemingly perfect and picturesque town, but after he digs deeper it’s revealed to have a darker side for it. Although I found it very weird, it was successful in feeling unsettling and creepy, after the perfect visuals of the beginning.

Critical Review
For this project we had to work in teams to come up with a new product that we will design, make, market and present. Our main theme was based around he game portal, and we were creating a smaller portal advice enabling you to travel around the world easily by only using something you can carry in your pocket. This gave us the name “Portal in my pocket” or PIMP for short.
The research we had to do for our project was to help the overall design of everything. We had to each look at different styles of posters when it came to us marketing our ideas and we also had to study other products adverts in order to gain inspiration for our own. We researched the game portal in order to have a similar colour theme and to help us style our product in a sleek and futuristic way.
Other research we had to do was in user interface and user experience, user experience being how comfortable the user is with the product, does it fit in their hand nicely? Is it easily portable? Etc. Whereas user interface is more to do with the style and design of the product. By researching these two things we were able to incorporate ideas from both of those fields enabling us to come out with a product that is both stylish and practical. For example, we needed a safe way to turn the phone on and off without fear of you creating a portal in your pocket (funny pun, pause for everyone’s laughter to end). In order to fix this problem, we made the device turn on when the arms side up, this action is easy to do by hand and hard to do in your pocket, and also is very purposeful, so you won’t do it by accident, another safety precaution.
When it came to the look of our screen, we had to research wireframes, wire frames are very basic structures that give a brief presentation as to how the layout will look, these are helpful as they are easy to create and easier to change, as opposed to having a final product that the customer is not happy with.
The final thing we had to research were maps, and which ones are the easiest to use and view for our device, we needed one that would show people which areas they are allowed to teleport into, and a live map to show people where possible dangers may be before they travel there.
Our research was heavily based around the Pokémon GO style maps, and also Google maps, and we went with a design close between the two.
When it came to working in team, it was very easy to get along as we were all passionate about the product and were all good in different areas of the work process making it easier to spread the work load. One issue about working in a group would be only being able to work together during class as we love too far away too meet up, so if we were to do this next time then i would want to organize a group video call so we can work at home too.
Our overall project i feel went well, we were unable to get the finished 3D model painted however it still worked well within our advert, which also went well.
If we were to do this project differently then i would want to start sooner, as at first we had some complications with who was in who's group, so next time i would want to be more organized and efficient with our time as we became rushed towards the end.

These images are going to be posters promoting the PIMP, (Portal in my Pocket) These posters will be have no information, intriguing people to find out more about these posters that they will see all over the place. The general idea behind them would be that its as if the viewer is looking through a portal at these wonderful places, and makes them see how easy it would be to travel. These posters will be accompanied with the posters that other members of my group have made, so people will be able to get information off of theirs, whilst mine are purely to lure people in and want to find out more.

Exhibition: Evaluation
In this project it was a little complicated because at the beginning I was not very clear about what it was and what should be my final result, however I feel satisfied with the result despite attending many tutorials. For this final result I settled in the artist's work and the name of the logo in its literal meaning, because the artist also bases her work on airplanes and helicopters. I did searches related to the word '' FLIGHT '', and I leaned in an airport and its elements: the runway (logo and poster), airline baggage tag (bookmark) and boarding pass (exhibition ticket) . At the beginning with the logo design, play a lot with other elements besides the runway, also try with planes, with typography of old movies, with elements of the artist's work. But, my intention was to create a minimalist logo and that's why I chose my final logo, because it is easy to visualize, understand and place in any size and space. In general, enjoy doing this last project although it will take me a couple of weeks to know what I should do, enjoy creating a collection of efemeras for an event and create something different.

GROUP CRIT
During my group crit, I explained about my work involving the visuals of the pier, and mentioned my previous idea about the hidden conspiracy theory. They really liked the conspiracy, and Neil pointed out that the idea of celebrating the tackiness of the pier wasn’t really a strong narrative, compared to the former. I almost spoke about my struggle to get first hand research as people hadn’t replied for either of my ideas. As the main reason I stayed away from the Conspiracy theory was that I couldn’t gather enough primary research, it seems silly not to go back to the strong narrative, seeing as I don’t have much for the aesthetics of the pier either. I definitely want to go back to my first idea and use forums and comments people have posted as my research. However, we did talk about combining the two. I want to use the typical ‘tacky’ and kitsch visuals of the pier and seaside, but present them in a sinister way somehow, to show this hidden conspiracy below the surface of the seemingly bright and happy Brighton Palace Pier.

Target audience for Portal Device
The portal device is available for all people of varying ages, for somebody over 60 who needs to use the portal in order to help them get upstairs, or for a young adventurer looking to see the world, our portal device caters for all.
Our device would however be more in the market of a wealthier person as it is 7k, and this will reduce the amount of common criminals being able to get hold of a cheap one and cause chaos with it. The device would also be unlikely to be able to use by children as they may not understand the damage they could cause with the product and they may even get lost within another country.

Wireframes
Wireframes are the very basics of the product or website, in our case we are making products but the concept is still the same. we are making a 2D visual aid to give an idea and design to a final product. We have started to make blueprints for our mini portal gun devices.
Above shows a wireframe of a phone and its different screens , giving someone a brief on what everything needs to look like. this can aid both UI and UX designers, as it will allow them both to know what they need to achieve.
