Project Ako is such a strange movie franchise(with fire fits)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Review:
project a-ko is some kind of bizarre action comedy slice of life. Ako and her “best friend” Cko are very clearly men to be dating in the first two movies, with Bko, the mane antagonists, planning to steal Cko away, mentioning wanting to go on dates with her. Movies three and four seem to very much want to remove these lesbian overtones, replacing Ckos place it the love triangle with a cardboard cutout of a boy. And Ako uncivil wars takes place in an alternate sci-fi universe.
All in all I very much enjoyed project Ako, although the third and fourth were a bi boring the bizarre action sequences at the end was definitely worth it. And it should be mentioned that these movies include racist caricatures and a reference to anti semitik conspiracy theories.

I stumbled upon the most amazing, beautiful trainwreck of a thing today, and I absolutely had to share it with all of you.
Twinkle Nora Rock Me! is a 1985 anime OVA based off of a 1980 manga called Nora no Hakobune, by Mikuriya Satome. Now, some of the inherent issues with this OVA are due to the fact that it's actually a sequel--the first part being called simply Nora (1985). At twice the length, it allegedly tells more of the story behind Nora (though, whether it has anything to do with the manga storyline is anyone's guess. As evidenced by OVA releases like Genocyber and Project A-ko: Uncivil Wars, sometimes artistic liberty means "I'm gonna use these character names and likenesses, but that's about it"). Unfortunately, I haven't seen the first video, so we're stuck with the glorious mess that you see above.
The first thing one notices about Twinkle Nora Rock Me! (aside from the ridiculous title) is that--for much of its running time--it can barely count as "animation". The protagonist might as well be named Mary Tyler Sue, as she can not only turn the world on with her smile (I kid you not, there is literally a line of dialogue that pretty much amounts to this), but she has insanely overpowered telekinetic/psychic abilities, including being able to force depressed midgets to dance.
I'm not going to say much more, except that--in spite of its obvious shortcomings--I still found this steaming pile oddly charming.

The Anime Nostalgia Podcast - ep 121: ReView: Project A-ko Versus
Tumblr media
This month’s episode is another short ReView! What is a “ReView” episode, you might ask? Well, it’s my highly-clever (ok not really) name for episodes where I go back and revisit an older title I haven’t seen in a long time, and see if what I remember (and what my opinions on it) are still the same now that some time’s gone by. This month, I’m going back in time to revisit a Saturday Anime title that I only ever watched once before, and never again, until now--it’s Project A-ko VERSUS! ....y’know, that official Project A-ko AU? Where A-ko & B-ko are bounty hunters? And they live together?.........no, really, that actually happened! I’m serious!! THEY WERE ROOMMATES!!!
