Into the night
I suggest you read the original before mine
The Temptation of Thanatos / Thanatos no Yūwaku – i'm trying (wordpress.com)
Eros and Thanatos; life and death. The balance which kept everything secure. As you listened to your History teacher drone on and on about Greek mythology, you knew exactly who you considered the latter and you suppose you were the former, there couldn’t be two deaths, could there?
In your daydream filled haze, you zone back in and a familiar face stomps into class half an hour late. It was Niki, your personal Thanatos. He dumps his bag down and thumps into the seat next to you. “And what’s your excuse this time?” The teacher asks "I was, um, in the art base" the dark haired boy replies, not looking up, "Hmmm, okay, but try not to let extra projects get in the way of my class again" she says as she turns back to the board. Even though you were Niki’s friend, it annoyed you how he never got in trouble.
"So as I was saying, certain people once are inclined to each state. It was believed that Thanatos would disguise as someone, his potential victim loved, in order to lure them to his side". Slowly you put your arm on the desk and lay your head down, careful not to mess up your ponytail. Next to you, Niki was sketching in his notepad, dark eyes focused. All you could think of was that he was 100% one of Thanatos' followers. He was always quite reserved, hardly speaking, and he had an affinity for drawing the most depressing things.
Of course, there was also the monthly texts of "You can have my art supplies, just as long as you make sure I'm remembered" and every time you would rush up to the rooftop of the flats to stop him. In fact, you believed that he wanted you to stop him, that he wanted to be helped. Unfortunately, every time you suggested counselling or talking to his social worker, the answer was always the same, a big fat "no". He would always insist he was fine.
This night was not an exception. As soon as you got the text you grabbed your jacket and phone and swiftly ran up the rooftop. Lo and behold, you saw Niki, with his legs dangling above the city below. As if he could sense you behind, he said "Don't you ever get sick of this all? I mean, you’re just like me in a way, no one there for you" he jumped up, grabbing you and pulling you close to him. "We could escape this, all one more step and this will all be over nothing left to hurt us."
You jerked out of his grasp, not wanting him to see how much you wanted to take up on his offer. Truth be told, perhaps you yearned for death more than Niki did, all you could think of was how sick, how sick and tired you were. “You know you want to…” his voice breaks your train of thought, and you sigh. As you turn around, you make up your mind, but first, you had one question, and you. "Niki, I decided I want to, but first I’m gonna ask something, and you need to answer, okay?". You see the biggest smile you’ve ever seen light up his face, "Mhm, what is it?" You take a deep breath, "Do you like me? Like like like?" He screws up as you "I don't think I've got enough feelings for that... but I guess if I could, I'd pick you to love, but it's basically a yes!"
"I like you too" you reply, walking to the edge with him. As you took a step breath, your legs trembling. How pretty the lights were and how glad you were that they would be your last vision. While lost in the sight of a thousand gorgeous lights, Niki grabs your hand and takes a step forward. "Ready?" he says, soft tone somehow so audible on this soundless, starry night. You nodded in reply, not trusting yourself to speak. Without warning, he jumps, taking you with him and pulling you close to his chest, wind whipping in your ears.
As you fell it was as if you were flying, you were finally going to be free of all this suffering and pain. You awaited the sickening crunch of bone as the two of you hit the ground. Instead, you touched the ground as soft as a feather, and you felt an odd chill come over you, starting at your the centre heart and creeping into the ends of your body.
Groggily, you look up at Niki and see a sinister smirk on his features "Finally..." he muttered, just loud enough for you to hear, “after so many years, finally enough people to get even with Eros” The revelation hit you dully, like a heavy rock weighing down on your chest. As you felt the last remnants of life leave all you could think was how ironic it was. You were going in death's arms. And with that your short-lived life ended, and you realised there could be two people inclined to death after all, provided one was death himself.
Fin.

SCCWEEN WEEK DRABBLE 1:
October 25th: “Haunted Studio”
It was often that Sweet’s energy got the better of them. They’d stay up for hours past when their partners turned in for the night, working on projects, their mind dead focused on the task at hand, refusing to think about anything else.
Such was the situation the starry-eyed-stereo found himself in, working seemingly endlessly on a blueprint for a guitar that they were 100% certain could be made of scrap, trust them.
They yawned, a soft buzz of feedback rippling through their speaker-eye, not enough to wake up Cap and K_K. Sure, it was getting late, but they were this close to finishing the schematic! He couldn’t possibly sleep now!
And then they heard it. The stomping in the hall, the clatter of some objects in the storefront, and most notably, the humming.
A haunting, ethereal tune, worming it’s way into Sweet’s mind as their attention was completely drawn from the task. While momentarily surprised at the sudden noise, they weren’t exactly terrified.
‘K_K’s always been a sleepwalker, they probably just got up without me hearing…’ They’d think. ‘I’ll get them back to bed, and probably turn in for the night, it’s late.’
So, the light over the speaker’s desk went out, and they made their way to the door, careful to not wake up their partners as they snored.
…
Sweet paused just before opening it, their chassis went cold as they looked back at the band’s shared bed, just faintly making out both of their partners as they cuddled in their sleep.
Wait, but if K_K’s here then-?!
They turned back to the door, staring at it with terror as they heard the stomping stop just outside of the door, the humming of the entity droning throughout the room.
Sweet wasn’t sleeping tonight.
~
I didn’t exactly have the energy to make a full ao3 fic for these drabbles, but I’ll do my best to post the drabbles here daily! - Mox

NaNoWriMo: The Vividorium
I'm woefully behind on my NaNoWriMo project, but still managing to write every day. I'll be happy if I can get to 7,000 tonight.
I'm still not 100% confident in my writing to post everything on here, but here's a small chunk. It definitely feels like I'm writing in a vacuum too much - writing about what is going on instead of showing what's going on, but I haven't figured out how to fix that yet.
Constructure criticism welcome!
---
Emelia had intended to make her way to the park where the Christmas Market was set up to get a first look of the area. Although the market opened at 12pm each day, she expected the crowds would wait until the evening to descend on the stalls when the sun had gone down and the lights would twinkle light stars across the whole park.
The travel notebook tucked into her purse had a list of the vendors she was most looking forward to seeing and she had included the broad type of item each booth was expected to sell as well as specific items she’d found on each vendor’s website that she was particularly excited about for her parents, brother, and friends.
The light was red as she came up on the next corner and she looked around appreciatively at the rows of shops lining the street as she waited for the crossing line to change when her eyes came to rest on a store tucked between a cafe and a pet supply store. A brightly colored sign hung from the wall - The Vividorium - and a beautiful, half-finished replica of Starry Night sat in an easel in the window along with an array of oil paint tubes and scattering of brushes.
Making a split second decision, Emelia turned and jogged to crossed the street other pedestrians were already walking across, abandoning her original plans. She’d just pop in for a second and then could go on her way to the market.
The room insight was uncomfortably hot after the sharp chill she’d been walking through for the past 20 minutes and she quickly pulled off her gloves and stuffed them into her purse.
“Welcome in,” floated from the back of the store, “I’ll be out in a moment.”
“No rush,” she called back, running her fingers over the covers of the sketchbooks piled high on the table just inside.
The narrow store was lined with tall birch bookshelves. The shelves along the right side held notebooks and canvases of various sizes. She was tempted by a lime green LEUCHTTURM dot journal, but remembered her last two failed bullet journals and left it on the shelf.
Along the left shelves were cups of pens, pencils, markers, and brushes by the window. Then came the paints - acrylics, oils, gouache, and watercolors in sets and individual tubes and pans with brightly colored wrappers formed rainbows along the wall.
Emelia had picked up a tiny travel palette of watercolors when the owner of the earlier voice emerged from the back.
“Are you looking for anything in particular?”
“Oh, no, thanks. I’m just looking.”
“That’s a nice set,” the woman gestured to the palette still in Emelia’s hands, “Good if you’ve got an eye for mixing colors since there aren’t too many in there.”
“Ah, yeah, I don’t really know much about painting. I’d love to learn, but there was never enough time. But now that I’m on vacation…”
It was all the woman, whose name turned out to be Joan, needed to hear and 20 minutes later Emelia exited the art store with a not-so-small paper bag in hand filled with a 100-color watercolor palette that was surprisingly small for containing so many colors, a set of metal travel brushes, a water reservoir, a booklet of watercolor paper to practice on, and a pad of blank postcards that Joan had insisted would be good for sending paintings to her family. Emelia wasn’t so sure anything she could create at this point would be worth sending to anyone, but Joan had been more than a little intimidating in her enthusiasm and Emelia wasn’t sure she would be allowed to leave without them.

'One windy night in March 2022, in the desert outside Belen, New Mexico, Cillian Murphy was waiting to climb a 100-foot steel tower, a copy of the one that held the first nuclear bomb ever detonated in 1945. The conditions were right for summoning the emotion of the historic scene the Irish actor was about to play as physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer. “You could see this sand coming up off the desert and the skies were ominous,” Murphy says. “I remember thinking, ‘Oh my God, this is fucking great.’ “
Nearby, as gusts whipped at the production tents, producer Emma Thomas was having the opposite reaction. “Imax cameras shooting film in the middle of a windy desert. The absolute worst,” says Thomas. “Miserable for people. Terrible for cameras.”
Though tense for the film crew, the sandstorm on the set of Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer replicated the one the scientists and military officers had faced the night before the real Trinity test, as the U.S. Army code-named the effort. And Nolan — the rare filmmaker who can still convince a studio to back such an ambitious movie — was determined to keep shooting. “Chris always gets told that he’s lucky with weather, and I think he is,” says Thomas, who is also Nolan’s wife and the mother of his four children. “But I think he also feels like he creates his own weather.” As it had in 1945 before the nuclear test began at dawn, the wind stilled abruptly, and Nolan got his shots.
It says something about the director’s reputation for a near-religious commitment to big-screen spectacle that when news first broke online about Nolan shooting the Trinity test scene without using CGI, a fair number of movie fans assumed that meant he had literally detonated an atomic bomb on set. “It’s flattering that people would think I would be capable of something as extreme as that on the one hand, but it’s also a little bit scary,” Nolan says during an interview in mid-June, in the Los Angeles offices of his and Thomas’ production company, Syncopy Inc. All the interviews for this story were conducted before SAG-AFTRA called a strike on July 13 — a move which prompted the cast members in attendance that day to walk out of Oppenheimer’s London premiere.
It’s not just in his filmmaking that Nolan prefers to rely on analog methods. He doesn’t use email or carry a smartphone, and when he writes his scripts, he does so on a computer that isn’t connected to the internet. “My kids would probably say I’m a complete Luddite,” he says. “I would actually resist that description. I think technology and what it can provide is amazing. My personal choice is about how involved I get. It’s about the level of distraction. If I’m generating my material and writing my own scripts, being on a smartphone all day wouldn’t be very useful for me.”
Oppenheimer, which chronicles the Manhattan Project’s development of nuclear weapons and the political and emotional fallout for the people who built them, is both an ode to and a cautionary tale about humanity’s ability to harness science and technology. The $100 million movie, which Universal will release July 21, is inspired by the 721-page, Pulitzer Prize-winning 2005 book American Prometheus by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin.
The sprawling, starry cast boasts 79 speaking roles, including Emily Blunt as Oppenheimer’s wife, Kitty; Matt Damon as Leslie Groves, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officer who directed the project; Robert Downey Jr. as Lewis Strauss, chair of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission; and Florence Pugh as Jean Tatlock, a psychiatrist with whom Oppenheimer had a passionate but tortured affair. The group of actors playing the scientists who worked on the Manhattan Project, including Josh Hartnett, Benny Safdie and Swedish actor Gustaf Skarsgard, are so numerous that they have their own WhatsApp group, called the “Oppenhomies.” Kenneth Branagh, Matthew Modine and Gary Oldman also appear. “It was the cast of Ben-Hur,” says Downey. “Everybody would have their moments. There were no small scenes.”
There are seat-rattling explosions, multiple steamy sex scenes and existential stakes. But Oppenheimer is also a biopic of a theoretical physicist, a man whose work is so abstract that it’s impossible to see. It’s R-rated, three hours long, with large chunks shot in black and white on Imax film developed expressly for Nolan and his cinematographer, Hoyte van Hoytema. And it contains a level of moral complexity that doesn’t exactly cry out summer popcorn movie — instead of the fictional CGI cities that are demolished in the third act of most summer films, Oppenheimer’s work led to the destruction of real cities, Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and more than 200,000 casualties.
“[Nolan] said to me, ‘This is the kind of movie that they used to make in the ’90s,’ ” says Damon. “It feels like when an Oliver Stone movie would come out and you’d go, ‘That’s one of the movies I’m going to see this year no matter what, because everyone’s going to be talking about it.’ But those movies have disappeared from the multiplex.”
The seed of Oppenheimer was planted in Nolan’s 2020 science fiction film, Tenet, in which a character references the physicist when comparing the creation of a doomsday device to the development of the first atomic bomb. Robert Pattinson, who co-starred in Tenet, gave Nolan a collection of Oppenheimer’s speeches as a wrap gift, and when Nolan read the speeches the physicist made in the 1950s, after the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, he saw the makings of a fascinating character study. “When you read the words of people speaking at that time, you see them wrestling with the implications and the consequences of what’s happened and what they’ve done,” Nolan says. “I started to get very excited about, rather than using it as an analogy in a science fiction sense, telling the actual reality of the story, really trying to be there, to give people the experience of what it would have been like to be Oppenheimer in those moments.”
Nolan, 52, grew up in the U.K. at the height of nuclear anxiety. In the 1980s, he watched as young people flocked to join the country’s growing Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, saw movies like the 1986 animated nuclear disaster film When the Wind Blows and heard the 1985 Sting song “Russians,” which includes the line, “How can I save my little boy from Oppenheimer’s deadly toy?” Nolan became fascinated by one point he learned over the years, which would come to animate him as a filmmaker: that there had been a moment when the Manhattan Project scientists realized they couldn’t completely eliminate the possibility of a chain reaction from an atomic bomb that would set fire to the atmosphere and destroy the world. “In the absence of being able to completely eliminate the possibility, they went ahead and pushed the button,” Nolan says. “That’s an incredible room to be in, an incredibly dramatic moment to take an audience to.”
The resulting movie is “sort of an origin story in a strange way, not a million miles away from the things we were doing with Batman and the Dark Knight trilogy,” Nolan says. “I got excited by his intellectual curiosity and adventurism in the 1920s, which was shared by all his peers. It was a revolution in physics that corresponded very closely to all the other revolutions in all aspects of life — the music of Stravinsky and modernism and literature, Picasso painting.”
One of the most unusual creative choices Nolan made was to write much of the script in the first person, including stage directions — instead of “Oppenheimer walks into the room,” for instance, the script reads, “I walk into the room.” Nolan did this, he says, to distinguish between two timelines: one from Oppenheimer’s point of view, shot in color, and the other, more objective, in black and white. The script detailed how Nolan planned to make the conceptual physics real for an audience through use of image and sound. “What does it look like, how things exploded and crashed against each other,” says Blunt. “All the visuals were very detailed in his stage descriptions.” Tonally, the movie would have to take the audience from the triumph of scientific achievement to the devastating realization of its impact. “Very often when you’re planning a film, whatever the most seemingly difficult challenge is, the way to deal with it is to embrace it as the biggest strength of the material,” Nolan says. “For me, the idea of going with these scientists from the absolute highest high to the lowest low in as dramatic and compressed a way as possible, that became the hinge point, the engine of the film.”
Oppenheimer is Murphy’s sixth film with Nolan. He has always played supporting roles: the Scarecrow in the Dark Knight films, a businessman in Inception, a shivering soldier in Dunkirk. Nolan says he doesn’t have actors in mind when he writes, but when he finished his Oppenheimer draft, casting the lead was obvious. “I’ve been staring at the cover of the book American Prometheus for so many months, and there’s this photograph, black and white, a light blue-eyed stare, very intense, of this guy,” Nolan says. “And I thought, ‘Well, I know who could do that.’ ” Murphy, who also played a physicist who designed a bomb in the 2007 Danny Boyle science fiction movie Sunshine, jokes that he has “resting physicist’s face.” Murphy was at home in Ireland when Nolan called, offering the role of a lifetime. “He’s just so understated and matter-of-fact and British,” Murphy says of Nolan. “It was like, ‘Cillian, look, I have a script, it’s Oppenheimer and I’d like you to play Oppenheimer.’ That was it.”
Nolan prefers to hand-deliver his scripts rather than email them. “People will say, ‘Why do you work in secrecy?’ ” Nolan says. “Well, it’s not secrecy, it’s privacy. It’s being able to try things, to make mistakes, to be as adventurous as possible. And to be able to sit with somebody who’s just read what you’ve written and get their take on it, see how they connect with it in a very human, face-to-face way.” In Murphy’s case, Nolan flew to Ireland and waited while the actor read the document; Downey went to Nolan’s home in L.A. to read it. “I was like, ‘Wow,’ ” Downey says. “And he was like, ‘So will you do it?’ I was like, ‘Uh, usually, there’s 38 phone calls.’ But he’s Chris Nolan. So I was like, ‘Yeah, I think I will.’ ”
Nolan’s movies have made more than $5 billion at the global box office, and he is almost singular in his ability to attract broad audiences not only to franchise fare like the Dark Knight trilogy but also original ideas like 2010’s Inception ($836.8 million) and 2014’s Interstellar ($773.8 million) and historical fare like 2017’s Dunkirk ($525.2 million). After being delayed three times because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Tenet was the first Hollywood tentpole to launch in theaters in the summer of 2020, a time when most U.S. cineplexes were operating at less than half capacity. In that diminished box office environment, the movie made $363.7 million worldwide, but the film and the pandemic helped usher in the end of Nolan’s relationship with what had been his longtime home studio, Warner Bros. When the company announced in December 2020 that it was dropping its entire 2021 theatrical slate directly onto its then-nascent streaming service, HBO Max, much of the industry complained in private, but Nolan was the most prominent director to publicly criticize the studio. “They don’t even understand what they’re losing,” Nolan said in a statement to THR at the time. (Nolan is himself a voracious moviegoer with varied and sometimes surprising tastes — for instance, he and his family watch Love Actually every Christmas and he enjoys the Fast & Furious franchise. “He watches every single movie, of every type of genre,” says Blunt. “And you never hear him shit-talk other people’s movies. He knows how hard it is to direct a great movie.”)
The current writers strike is driven by many of the same issues that frustrated talent about Warner Bros.’ pandemic-era policies, including transparency and residuals. “In the last few years, it’s very often not been clear what a studio’s intention is,” Nolan says. “Why they’re making a particular project, what they’re then going to do with it, how they monetize it. Do they monetize it at all? Is it a loss leader to drive subscriber growth? A lot of the reason that there’s a strike right now is we have to make the streamers pay the true cost of production. The business models don’t work right now.”
Nolan says he voted to ratify the contract the Directors Guild struck with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers in June. “The parameters of the deal are certainly going to help the other guilds in negotiations,” he says. “It’s very important that all the guilds get a great deal right now. It is a transitional moment. The move to streaming has thrown up all kinds of economic issues with all the guilds and in particular, the writers. And now is the moment that we need to fix those things.”
In mid-2021, Nolan had left Warner Bros. and was meeting with the other major studios about making Oppenheimer. “I told them it was a three-hour film,” Nolan says. “I told them it would be R-rated. I told them what the budget would be. Emma and I, we’ve taken a view that telling studios exactly what we’re doing and sticking to that is the clearest, simplest thing to do.”
Through their kids, Nolan and Thomas were friends with Donna Langley, now the chairman and chief content officer of the NBCUniversal studio group, and Langley saw Nolan as an ally in the studio’s attempt to resuscitate the theatrical business. “Coming out of the pandemic, we were wondering what would make audiences come back to theaters,” says Langley. “[Nolan] is one of a handful of directors whose name alone inspires audiences globally to go to the movie theater.” Universal guaranteed Nolan an exclusive theatrical release for between 90 and 120 days on Oppenheimer, far longer than the studio’s pandemic-era exclusive windows, which ranged from 17 to 31 days. “Given Chris’ experience with his prior movie, it was clear the theatrical window was important to him,” Langley says.
By February 2022, production was underway, with locations including Oppenheimer’s actual house in New Mexico and Albert Einstein’s office in Princeton, New Jersey. The film secured permission to shoot at the White Sands Missile Range, where the Trinity test occurred, but because it is still an active military base, the hours were inconvenient, and instead production designer Ruth De Jong re-created the site in the desert. Some of the scientists followed the shoot and worked as extras. “You’d be in a scene and you’d casually chat to someone and he was a high-end physicist working in Los Alamos,” says Murphy.
Nolan’s sets feel different from most, say the actors. “There aren’t a lot of people running around on phones. There’s no video village. There’s no chair with your name on it,” says Downey. “It was focused and Spartan, almost a monastic approach to what we’re doing.” Despite Nolan’s reputation for precision, there are no marks on the floor for actors to hit. “He’s like, ‘We don’t need to put down marks because you shouldn’t be looking for them, and my team should be able to find you wherever you are,’ ” Downey adds. “It’s actually kind of super loose within this controlled format.” Nolan’s notes to his actors are concise and focused. “We did a scene a few times and I wasn’t getting it,” says Murphy. “I may have come in a bit hard. He leaned over to me and said, ‘He’s not a boxer, he’s a chess player.’ Boom. You just go, ‘Totally get it.’ You get used to these big, huge fucking cameras moving toward you, but you’re really there in the moment doing it as truthfully as you possibly can.”
Early on in his research, Nolan had a conversation with physicist Robbert Dijkgraaf that signaled a potentially enormous problem for the film. Dijkgraaf explained that in the early 20th century, during the transition from classical physics to quantum mechanics, “one of the things that had been challenging and alienating for physicists was that, as [Dijkgraaf] put it, they could no longer visualize the atom,” Nolan says. “And of course, to me that was very frightening. I said to him, ‘Well, that’s my job. That’s what I have to do. What do you mean you can no longer visualize it?’ He said, ‘Well, you can’t because it’s energy fields lying on top of each other. It’s not ping-pong balls flying around.’ ”
Nolan came to the conclusion that he would rely on his editor, Jennifer Lame, to help him create a visceral feeling of the physics, layering visual effects, sound and Ludwig Göransson’s score. “I got excited by, how can cinema help you understand something not intellectually, but emotionally, that it’s really impossible to visualize in other ways?” Nolan says. He relied on special effects supervisor Scott Fisher and visual effects supervisor Andrew Jackson to help him create a representation of the physics on film through the use of practical effects — the effects department’s experiments included smashing ping-pong balls together, throwing paint at a wall and shooting at various frame rates. Out of a desire to preserve the illusion, Nolan declines to say what actually created the finished effect, except that it is definitely not computers — there is no CGI in the film at all. “CG inherently is quite comfortable to look at,” Nolan says. “It’s safe, anodyne. And what I said to Andrew on Oppenheimer is, ‘This can’t be safe. It can’t be comfortable to look at it. It has to have bite. It’s got to be beautiful and threatening in equal measure.’ “
Oppenheimer is eerily topical. In March, against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine, the United Nations said the risk of nuclear weapons use is higher now than at any time since the Cold War. Another technological innovation, artificial intelligence, has prompted scientists to do the kind of soul-searching that Oppenheimer eventually did — after the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. “Oppenheimer’s story is the most dramatic example I know of the fraught relationship between science and government,” Nolan says. “The relationship between technology and government right now is one of the most difficult and frightening areas.”
Oppenheimer is set to open in theaters opposite Warner Bros.’ Barbie, which appears likely to win the weekend, a phenomenon the extremely online have dubbed “Barbenheimer” in a series of memes, including one with an atomic mushroom cloud exploding in a plume of pink smoke. Universal struck an unusual agreement with Imax for Oppenheimer to have all the Imax screens in North America for three full weeks — a move that has frustrated Tom Cruise, whose Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning, Part One opened a week earlier. “There is room for them all to do well,” says Langley. Nolan’s movies, she notes, tend to attract audiences far beyond opening weekend. “You see the movie once, you want to go back and see it again,” Langley says. “That’s going to help.”
A major part of the pitch to audiences will be that this is a movie you’ll need to get off the couch to fully appreciate. “This is not a biopic, this is an experience,” says Blunt. “There’s no way you’re going to feel the scope of it watching it on your iPad.”'

Drawn to the Dark: A Nightmare to Remember Chapter 1: An Invitation
Chapter 2
Fandom: Escape the Night
Summary: Selena Mordrim ran the Youtube series Melody Parody where she would create music videos of parody songs that she wrote. After hitting one million subscribers, she felt like her life couldn’t go anywhere but up. Then, she received an invitation to a mysterious manor in the 1920s. Selena now finds herself and 11 others fighting for their lives against a dark force that threatens to swallow them whole.
Warnings: death, poison, depictions of overstimulation/disassociation
Disclaimer! The guests in this story are not meant to be depictions of the real people they are based on. I treat the Youtubers as characters within the Escape the Night universe. Additionally, just because I endorse a character within this story does not mean that I endorse their real-life counterpart and vice versa. Over half these people I don't even watch. Enjoy!
Word Count: 2,735
Selena admired herself in the mirror one last time. The glittering red dress only covered her ass because of the tassels dangling from it and the slight “cover” of the fishnets. It had taken her nearly an hour to get the feathered headdress to sit properly on her head, but she had to admit that it contrasted nicely against her pinned up jet black hair. The outfit was definitely… flashier than what Selena normally wore, but she supposed that that was the point. She was The Flapper after all. She was just thankful that she had found a nice pair of black flats to wear instead of heels.
A car horn blared outside of her apartment. Selena tugged her dress down one last time and eyed her phone. For a moment, she considered taking it. Joey had never mentioned when they would all get back after dinner, and she didn’t want to end up stranded in the dark looking like she just walked out of speakeasy. God forbid, something bad happened! The driver honked their horn again, and Selena ran out leaving the phone behind. Joey had been insistent that no one bring any modern technology, and she didn’t want to make a bad impression.
The car looked like it rolled right out of 1920. If it wasn't in such pristine condition, she would have sworn that it was authentic. As she stepped in and faced the border that blocked her from the driver, she couldn’t help but wonder if Joey had inherited more than just a house.
Four years ago, Selena would never have dreamed that she would be personally invited to a Youtube party. She had been a recent college graduate from film school at UCLA trying desperately to get a break along with the thousands of other starry-eyed dreamers in LA. She spent the majority of that first year serving coffee and waiting for the nearly 100 studios she applied to never get back to her. Eventually, she got a position at Youtube in their media department. She worked on various projects where she was able to network with other content creators to find more work. This was actually how she met Joey when he reached out to her to help him with this idea for a music video he had. Just a year ago, Selena considered making Youtube videos. She would make small parody songs on her own, so she figured that she might as well try and post them. In a remarkably quick time, she was gaining a decent following and making full music videos for her songs. She was even in the beginnings of writing her first original song for a one million subscriber special. She was still new to the Youtube scene, so an invitation like this is something that she could never pass up.
Selena gasped as the impossible pulled her out of her thoughts. Seemingly out of nowhere appeared a beautiful house that would have felt at home in an Agatha Christie novel. The road to the house was long and empty save for a few trees and grasslands. It should have been visible for miles and yet it only came into view as the car rolled past the gate. Joey had mentioned that the house would appear like magic, but Selena did not think that he meant it literally.
A handsome man wearing a well-tailored suit and tie opened the car door and extended his hands to help Selena out. Selena was too caught up in the theatrics of it all to notice the slight electric shock as she took the man’s hand.
“Welcome, Ms. Mordrim,” the man said, giving a slight bow.
“Thank you,” Selena replied, although her eyes never left the gorgeous building in front of her.
The man chuckled. “I see you are already taken with the house.”
“It’s beautiful,” she admitted. “There’s something about it…I can’t quite put my finger on it.”
“The House has ensnared many since its creation. All are drawn by something different. The architecture. The air of mystery. Some claim that it is something spiritual. Tell me: What draws you to it?”
Selena scanned the building as she took in what the man told her. There was a part of her that knew that what he was saying was weird, but…she could feel it. There was something…calling to her. Something she had only felt once a long time ago. She squashed the feeling as quickly as it came. She was probably just excited for the party.
“A party I believe,” she answered with a cheeky smile.
The man smiled. “You’re in luck then. There is one happening just on the other side of that door.” He gestured up a staircase to the main entrance. “I hope you enjoy your night Ms. Mordrim.”
“As do I,” Selena replied more to herself than to the man.
As she walked up with the other lambs, the man stared at his hand that still tingled slightly from the shock. He smiled to himself. This night just became a little more interesting.
If it were possible, the inside of the house was even more extravagant than the outside. The dark wood shone from the light of the chandelier overhead. All the other guests, dressed in their best 1920s attire, added an extra layer to the spectacle. Selena scanned the room and made eye contact with LeLe who motioned for her to join her and the women standing next to her. LeLe was one of the few people that Selena had worked with in her short time on Youtube, and she breathed a sigh of relief that there were in fact people here that she knew.
The two looked stunning in their get ups. LeLe was in a glittering, tight fitted black and silver dress adorned with pearls and a silver headdress. The other was wearing a feathery white dress with a tiara. LeLe gasped as Selena walked to them.
“Girl you gotta warn me next time you decide to be all sexy!” LeLe exclaimed. Selena felt her cheeks heat up as her colleague complimented her.
“Uh thanks.”
“Give the whole twirl girl. Come on.” Selena spun around in her fringed dress careful not to spin too fast as to end up in a Marilyn Monroe situation. “If I was a lesbian we would be having a fun time tonight.”
“I…don’t know how to respond to that but…thanks?”
“Seriously, you look really good,” the woman standing next to them added.
“So do you! I’m Selena by the way.”
Selena extended her hand toward the woman. She gingerly took it with her fingertips and gave a deep bow.
“I am…Sierra, if you please,” Sierra said in a hushed tone with an accent that Selena assumed was supposed to be British.
“Girl what the hell are you doing?” LeLe's response sent all three women into a fit of laughter.
“I was trying to like, get into the whole “Heiress” character,” Sierra explained. “It’s weird. I’ve never been to a party like this where you’re given a character.”
“I’ve never been to a party where the house appears out of nowhere like a freakin’ ghost,” LeLe interjected, “Joey is one weird dude.”
“Where is he anyway?” Selena asked.
As if one cue, Joey came down the stairways in his 1920's-style tuxedo. Everyone cheered for him as he welcomed everyone to the party. He introduced his staff that, apparently, had also come with the house. Selena recognized the butler, Arthur, as the man who had helped her out of the car. Sarah, the maid, was slightly hunched over with her head down. It made her already small frame appear tiny. Selena shivered as a cold breeze sent a chill up her spine. Luckily, Joey had just promised them drinks. That should warm her right up.
Selena found herself sitting at a poker table with Justine, GloZell, and Tim. She had heard of Tim and GloZell before but had never gotten a chance to meet any of them. GloZell, true to her role as the Jazz Singer, was singing nearly every time she played a hand. At one point, Selena began to sing along with her when she heard a song that she knew. GloZell immediately stopped and glared at her.
“Nuh uh, honey,” she said. “You might sing good, but I don’t do duets.”
There was a momentary pause at the table. Selena began to shrink in on herself as Justine and Tim watched for her reaction. She hadn’t noticed the joking smile on GloZell’s face as she shrank into her shell. GloZell’s face softened, and she placed her hand on Selena’s.
“Why don’t you do some of your fancy footwork while I sing along. You can even sing back-up. We’ll make it an act!” she added dramatically.
Selena squeezed Glozell’s hand thankfully before a smirk creeped across her face. “Bold of you to assume that you could afford me as back-up.” The whole table broke into laughter before continuing to play.
After realizing that Justine is much better at poker than they all thought, the maid came in to announce that dinner was ready. The whole group moved into the dining hall where everyone had a name card placed out for them. Selena was a little shocked when she found her spot at the head of the table opposite Joey.
“Well somebody had to be,” Joey explained, “And seeing as you're the latest hot trend, I figured you earned it.” Selena smiled and took her place by Tim and a woman in all black that she learned was Andrea.
The group talked and laughed as they ate. Many of the women were trying to get close to Joey for his money. GloZell even tried to serenade him. Selena shook her head. While the house was beautiful, the pull that she still felt to it creeped her out. It would take a lot of money to convince her to stay in it. Besides, Joey was as much her type as she was his.
As the group continued to gossip, they noticed that two members were missing. Eva and Shane had apparently not been seen since dinner started. Selena thought back to the rounds of poker she had played. While she had never met Eva, she knew of Shane and saw him sneak away with a woman shortly before dinner was called. While the rest of the group oohed like a bunch of middle schoolers, Joey’s face scrunched in disdain. Before Selena could comment on it however, the two came walking into the dining room. Shane briefly made eye contact with Selena and scowled. She tried not to let her confusion show on her face. Did he already not like her? She hoped not. It would become a long night if she had to start avoiding people.
The mood quickly shifted as the two were interrogated on where they had gone. Eva insisted that she had just gone to piss, but Shane seemed to dodge the question at every turn. It didn’t help when Arthur came in to deliver a telegram to Shane. This made no sense to Selena. Why would someone deliver a telegram of all things? Who even sent telegrams anymore?
Shane’s cocky smirk from being the only one to receive a telegram faded once he read it. He started coughing violently and slumped down on the ground. Much of the group began to crowd around him, but one man wearing the best 11th doctor cosplay read the note and announced that Shane had been poisoned.
“Ah, now it makes sense,” Selena thought, “Joey invited us here for a murder mystery party. That explains the theme. Shane must have been in on it. This actually sounds kinda - OH MY GOD THAT’S A HUMAN HEAD!”
Sure enough, the maid brought in their “last course” that would help them find the antidote for Shane only to reveal a severed head. All at once, the screams and shouts began to muffle as Selena’s vision darkened. She gripped the back of her chair for balance. This was too much. If it was real, she was going to watch somebody die. If it wasn’t, this was going way too far to just be a bit for a party. She felt a hand gently squeeze her shoulder.
“Hey are you okay?” The voice sounded far away, but it was enough to bring Selena back to reality. As her vision cleared, she saw Andrea standing next to her with a worried look.
“Not really,” Selena whispered with a chuckle. “Someone is about to die.”
“Maybe not. Apparently there are these glasses that could help us open this box that could help us find the antidote for Shane.”
Selena blinked. “What?”
“Yeah I don’t really get it either, but that’s what the note said to do so…” Andrea shrugged and made sure that Selena had regained her balance before going off to try and help the others. Selena noticed a chest on the other end of the room by the window. On top of it was a drinking glass with an odd symbol on it. She looked around and noticed an identical glass sitting in a nearby cabinet. As she picked it up, her thumb brushed against the symbol on the glass and the symbol glowed briefly. The glass became incredibly hot. Selena ran over to put it down on the chest before it burned her hand. As she inspected her hand for any damage, LeLe ran up with the glass and the chest opened. Her hand seemed to be fine.
Apparently, the antidote was broken into three pieces hidden nearby. Selena went with LeLe and the Matt Smith cosplayer, who she had learned was, ironically, named Matt, and another man named Oli. They discovered fairly quickly that the antidote was hidden inside a maze trapped in a box. The problem was getting it out. They couldn’t see the maze or the box and had to simply feel around for it and pass to each other. LeLe and Matt began to argue as the box kept getting lost or being pushed into a corner. Selena tried to mediate the two of them, but as Arthur called out that Shane had five minutes left, she resorted to pushing Matt out of the way and working with Oli. Oli grinned as he declared that he could feel the box coming out of the maze. Not a second after, Arthur announced that Shane was dead.
We all reconvened in the dining room around Shane’s body. Everyone was shouting and accusing everyone else of murdering him. Their voices all began to meld into one as the stress of the evening began to weigh on Selena. Her eyes were pulled to Shane’s body like a magnet. It was almost…peaceful, in that dazed blur of voices. Like her mind could simply float from this house and fly somewhere, anywhere else. Something nudged her side and tugged her back down to find the group staring at her.
“You good, girl?” LeLe asked. “What do you think of all this?”
“I…um…” Selena was thankfully saved from answering by Joey who had found a note in Shane’s pocket. Shane had apparently been a part of some organization called the Society Against Evil that had sent him to stop the evil in the house. But that evil got to him first. Selena sighed in relief upon hearing that no one in the room was a murderer.
The relief was short-lived as Joey announced that in order to defeat the evil, they would have to endure death challenges to collect relics that could trap the evil forever. If they didn’t, they would be stuck in the 1920s forever.
This time, Selena was not the only one that was done with the murder house. The group made a mad dash for the car that had brought them here. Not everyone could fit, but maybe they could get people in rounds or find help once they were gone.
That plan, however, went up in a cloud of smoke. Literally. The car exploded. As the heat of the flames singed the feathers on her headpieces, Selena’s vision blurred and darken. She barely registered falling to the ground, or was she caught? Someone called her name, but whether the voice came from those around her or inside her own head she was not lucid enough to be sure.
“Selena.”

post-assignment reflection (pt. 1)
hi!,
long-time, no posting. i did do quite a bit of stuff, but i was very distracted and didn't really get much opportunity to stop and reflect. the assignment was seen yesterday. i didn't do much documentation because i'm an idiot, and i'm very stressed on assignment days.
i'll try summarize everything from the past few days.
i went to a commbank and exchanged a bunch of money for a bunch of coins. i experimented in 302 with coins and light, trying to see how well they might reflect light from a projection.
i'll need to be clear about something before i keep writing - i think my artwork this block was a failure. i've been thinking a lot about it and i think i've concluded (for the moment) that i DID try, and i DID have ideas i wanted to express, but i think i failed to actually convey something successfully. so this will be the most negative and confused and incomplete i have been about my own work while reflecting.
the coins didn't reflect quite as well as i'd hoped, and also didn't even come close to filling the room. in retrospect, i think if i had gotten significantly more coins and filled the room, the consumerism-art dichotomy idea i was thinking about might have been more obvious - having the audience walking on top of money... i don't know exactly but i think it would've had a cool effect on the audience. plus the feeling that you're literally walking on the artwork, and can't avoid that - forcing the audience to change the work, coins shifting like sand.
the commonwealth bank, my enemy, would only let me take out $100 at a time, and i only mustered the energy and time to grab money from them once. that's a me problem though.
i built the cardboard-streetlight-tree-thing on wednesday the 29th of may, i think. it was a bit of a process finding the right way to hold it together, i tried tape and wire but zipties worked best in the end. i destroyed a lamp and made something really cool. i think this part of the work was a genuine success!
the light, the shape, the sadness, the childishness, the physicality! pretty cool! on the day, i had wires and things coming in and out, and it was covered in leaves and had flowers coming out of it. and i was inside it! no one actually realized, and i was watching everyone, making music the whole time.
i had a microphone inside the tree, which was supposed to pick up what the audience was saying and doing, and feed it back to them, but the effect wasn't clear. i think if i had hung it from the ceiling, so the audience would definitely see it, the effect could've been a lot cooler.
it could've been hung directly above the starry-starry-night rug, so there was a feeling that god was listening to you, or something. that actually would've been great! damn it!!!!! i wish i could do this artwork again...
i put a bunch of CDs, along the right wall. i really like the way it reflected light into rainbows, and the fact that you could see yourself in them. but it was a bit silly and whatever. i didn't really get much from it.
here's my friend Liang! she showed up on friday, i think, to help me. we collected leaves together, and she thought of a performance she could do for the work. the idea for the performance came from her completely. it was based on something she used to do for her old partner, and it was connected to the parts of the work that were connected to my workplace (an Italian restaurant). she was making pasta out of wire, while dressed as a waitress, but a kind of ((sexy)) waitress.
i'm not really sure what it means, but i do think it actually fit thematically quite well. i don't know how it would've felt or been interpreted by the audience, since i was stuck in the tree. and the connection to the restaurant wasn't really clear, because the recordings of my workplace weren't loud enough to come across over the synths i was playing. not to mention, the work is quite overstimulating and the audience only had a few moments to take it in.
although! the receipt roll detail at the front of the store would have hopefully helped make that connection.
to be continued...

r/place (pixel-art subreddit experiment), pixel art practitioners; an explanation - By RPG.
Its not just one, or even two, practitioners...its multiple 100s of thousands.
(r/place, a collection of weirdly fascinating pixel art drawings)
r/place was an experiment, initially released to the public on April Fool's day (April 1st) 2017, but repeated on April Fool's day 2022 and June 20th 2023.
The experiment involved an online canvas, built upon a subreddit called "r/place", as a collaborative project and social experiment.
Registered users to Reddit could place one singular pixel, of any colour from a growing list of colours from palettes, to the canvas to contribute or start on their own artwork. The online canvas made was 1000x1000 in resolution, requiring a lot of detail and attention to maintain larger artwork. The main fad that made r/place really interesting is the fact that it never stayed uniform, and artwork was subject to frequent change; this mainly happened when different internet subcultures, groups, fanbases, subreddits and nationalities "rivaled" each other to expand on whatever art they were working on (also changing the way the canvas looked if a bigger piece of artwork on the canvas was changed insurmountably).
Notes to make:
The canvas always changes, so there isn't always a certain result.
The project started with a colour palette of only 16 colours, this was also subject to change with many other colours being added on as the project advanced. At the end of the project, the colour palette was reduced majorly to only greyscale colours.
Detail was sometimes a major part of certain artworks; representations of famous oil paintings such as the Mona Lisa and Starry Night were bound to be more detailed than something like a flag. However, some communities/subreddits from their native countries contributed by adding national heros/icons, famous inventions, things of cultural significance, landmarks and quotes; some with vast detail, shading and outlining (a couple of examples being the Christ the Redeemer statue drawn next to the Brazilian flag, the portraits of Vasil Levski and Hristo Botev in front of the Bulgarian flag and a representation of the London Eye in front of the UK flag; all done in pixel art style).
There were multiple different focuses into pixel art, dependent on what was actually being drawn out. Something like a representation of a famous character would've been broader because the fanbase would've had more time to collaborate on the artwork. One amazing thing about this project was the fact that you could see the expressions of different cultures intertwined; for example, when Balkan countries had their flags drawn next to each other based on their real-life geographic location, with significant symbolism being inscribed on these flags and connected with hearts (showing support for each Balkan country). There was also a focus on internet culture, memes, famous artistry, video game communities, branding, pop-culture references etc.
Objects include:
Iconography, religious symbols, brands, characters/caricatures, famous landmarks/buildings to name a few.
Famous artistic portrayals were seen on r/place, all of which were user-created; some of the few that were well known were the Blue Corner (for the fact it was always blue), The Black Void (a space in the canvas just filled with black coloured pixels), the green lattice and a multi-coloured "rainbow road".

Prestissista
Name Meaning
⤿'Prestissista' is a combination between 'Prestissimo', which is the name of the most rapid tempo and 'Fantasista', meaning 'Someone with too much imagination'.
•°•══════ஓ๑❆๑ஓ══════•°•
"Welcome to Prestissista, the dorm of immortality. I will only have one advice: Please, treasure the time you have spent with those you hold dear."
_Azrael, the current Housewarden of Prestissista
•°•══════ஓ๑❆๑ஓ══════•°•
《⌛☆ basic info》
❝A dorm that honors the determination and courage of the Timeless Medusa. Twisted from Azami & Kozakura Mary_ Kagerou Project. ❞
⤿Prestissista students are encouraged to treasure the time they spend with their friends, especially if the friends were humans or beastmen/beastwomen. Mainly because of most Prestissista students are immortal beings. So if you find a Prestissista student hanging out with their human friends, please don't interrupt them.
⤿As part of Prestissista, you will be learning that time doesn't stop for anyone, be it one of the strongest mage in Twisted Wonderland, or a songbird that descend from heaven.
⤿Prestissista is considered 'The dormitory of immortality', so human students in Prestissista are treasured well to heart. Infact, over these 100 years there has been only three students that were humans.
⤿The dormitory's colors are shades of Red, Blue, White and Black. The gem stones of Prestissista are varies shades of Blue for 'light' creatures, 'neutral' creatures and Red for 'dark' creatures.
⤿Students of Prestissista tend to excel in Ancient Curses, History of Magic. Most students that are songbirds also have excellent performances in Musicology and Dancing as well. Although that, there are rumors regarding the Housewarden being a Beast-Tamer.
⤿The Housewarden is Azrael Nightingale, a secretive and cold second-year who is rumored to be descendant of the Timeless Medusa herself. They seem to have a strained relationship with Prestissista's Vice-Housewarden, Nemesis Nightingale.
⤿The archways of Prestissista are covered with hourglasses that hold many gemstones as sand and two stone snakes on the top of the archways.

《⌛☆ dorm building》
⤿Unlike most of the dorms at RSA, Prestissista's building is composed of an actual city, within the main building being an apartment which Azrael lives. Each houses are dorms where the students live with one another.
⤿The bedrooms can be customizable, even the houses as well. They will reflect the residents of it and their feelings. For example, Zephyr lives together with Akito and their house is in form of a candy shop.
⤿Right in the square of the city, there was a tall and old tree that it's leaves covered in sliver.
•°•══════ஓ๑❆๑ஓ══════•°•
《⌛☆ dorm uniforms 》
⤿Prestissista's uniforms are customizable, of course. But it is encourged to have your uniform being the assigned colors you like. The basic of the uniforms is based on streetwear and chaotic academia.
⤿Each students will get a set of assigned colors and get to choose what colors do they like among them. The colors will be parts of their uniforms as well. If they do not want any of them, they can ask to change the palletes.

(OOC) This is where I left off at last night, after creating Mari's restaurant 🫠
But! I did finish creating it 😄
I cannot say with 100% certainty that it runs flawlessly, as I've yet to spend a workday in it. I intend to do that today. First though, I wanted to make a post with screen captures of my build and experiences of building it 😅😊
More or less, it took me almost 15 hours to make this one restaurant. I totally tunnel visioned- I barely got up to eat (don't be like me and do this). I survived on water and espresso, lol 😅. I'm honestly really bad at hyper focusing on projects when I'm dead-set on getting something done. I think it's my Virgo rising's fault? (astrology) Heck if I know.
The first issue I had (that I mentioned in a previous post I would have to figure out) was finding a location and plot size to build on. After visiting through all of my available worlds and through much debate, I settled upon a 50x40 plot in San Sequoia (I hate spelling this btw so I'm going to be shortening it to San Seq. from now on).
There was also a 50x40 in Henford-on-Bagley but then I'd have to deal with Wild Foxes challenges and I don't even know what that means??? 🤷🏻♀️ (again, I'm still a noob to Sims 4). So, I took the "safer path" and opted not to go that route. Besides, the plot in San Seq. was right next to the coast... how could resist? I also liked that they were next to recreational centers.
I thought about going with a 30x20, or a 40x20 that was also in San Seq. but when I was looking at them, they seemed very small. I was a bit paranoid to go with those and thought I'd need much more room, dismissing them entirely.
Honestly, after building the restaurant and knowing what I know now. I feel a 30x30 would have been perfect. But it's a little late for that 😅
And thinking about future projects- I could probably go back to that 30x20 in San Seq. and put a cute cafe on it 🥰 (and it'll be right next door!)
All I had to do was move the house that was currently on that plot I wanted- which was uninhabited. I did want to make use of it, so I saved it to my library and moved it to Newcrest (which is completely a blank slate for me atm). If I change my mind and decide I don't want this later, I can just demo it completely- no biggy. I think it fits nicely in Newcrest though and it's one way to slowly fill up Newcrest LOL 😂
Here we go! Ready to begin!
The things I knew I wanted were:
Restaurant Name: Celeste
Celeste Inspired Colors; Teals, Blues, Greens, Blacks, Whites, Greys
Double Height Walls
Not a traditional square design building. Unique shape.
Second Floor is a balcony/hallway with Bathroom only.
Leaning more towards French Dishes, but "Mari's Favorites" dishes Menu
Theme steering towards Starry Sky/Cosmos/Ocean/Zen/Calming
I'm going to jump straight to my finished build screenshots.
First and Second floor from the Front View.
Front and Back View - I have 2 tables in the back that I'm hoping wont make things a living hell for my chefs and waiters 😅
Here's a shot of the inside that shows some details you cant really see with my other screenies.
I had to put that weird little corner there in the top left to make the trimming do what I wanted it to do (evil trimming 😈). So I took advantage of it by making it a "Display Area" aka "Focal Point" of sorts. I mean, it'll boost the restaurants appeal this way.
I just wish EA would make that friendlier to use but I'm not sure there even is a way they could fix that. It reminds me a lot of the spaghetti coding in FFXIV. I'm just kinda over here nodding and shaking my head going uh-huh... it is what it is 🤷🏻♀️. What can I really do?
At one point I think I had the trimming rounding the top of the building seamlessly but then I had to backtrack and it got royally screwed up and I couldn't put it back together no matter what I did *sigh* 🫠. I settled for the way it turned out cause I want the trimming. The building looks too bland without it.
I also really like the curved corners but the way it stretches the wallpaper and causes the lighting to hit it differently kind of nags at my OCD 🙃😅. Win-lose situation here.
There weren't very many options for restaurant "signs", unfortunately. I knew I wanted a cursive sign for Celeste, and the only option I had was this short one (that doesn't look like it says "Celeste" but perhaps in Simlish) or a very tiny one that didn't even seem like a "sign".
You'll also see there's a lot of plot space I didn't use. Indeed the 50x40 was too large. I ended up using a lot of the left side for a bunch of sakura trees 😅 (I do love them a lot). I'm not sure if there's a way for me to trim this down and fit it on a smaller plot or not, but I have no intention of moving it in my game. I'm just thinking for uploading/sharing it to library purposes.
After finally building the restaurant, it was time to buy it!
I pulled her out of bed at 3:48AM to buy a restaurant 😅 (tbf it was like 11:30PM for me irl, I was exhausted)
So much detail goes into this omg! I was picking out Staff Attire...
You can choose for your Chefs, Hosts, and Waiters. They have pre-made attire or you can create your own. I opted to create my own.
Menu... oh goodness gracious the menu... 🫠
I kept getting the "Max 30 Dishes" message because I kept choosing too many things 😂. Well forgive me for having too many favorite things!
I'd also like to note and point to my Pinned Message; I have the S&S Cookbook mod so a lot of these dishes come from that. I'm not sure if I ever share my restaurant to the library, if it'd also upload my menu? (I have a feeling it will, but I can notate it and those recipes specifically will just drop off the menu if the downloader doesn't have the mod)
I'll definitely be updating this menu as my chefs become more skilled, but apparently it's best to have them start off with dishes in the lower skill range 1/5, 2/5, 3/5. If they create dishes poorly, your restaurant will be rated poorly.
And then I hired some people! For now it's limited to one position each. Starting off is going to be rough because I have 28 dining spots iirc. I just have to remember that I can click the host station and disallow new guests if things get too busy.
We'll see how this goes! \o/

Formal analysis assignment
The Starry Night was painted By Vincent Van Gogh in 1889. The artist was born in Netherlands on March 30th, 1853. He is one of the most famous artists in the world and he is well known for his oil paintings. In a 10-year period, he almost painted 900 paintings and approximately did 2100 art works in his whole life. Another thing that he is well known for is cutting his own ear. The painting was done in France at the Saint-Paul asylum in Saint-Rémy. The subject of the painting is that he used memories and emotions that came in his mind from looking outside of his window where there was a view of the countryside. He was letting his depression do the art for him instead of his own positive thoughts. The styles used in his famous painting are modern art and post-impressionism. The Starry Night will always be one of the best projects in Western art to this day. In 1890, he died from a suicide in France. The painting is currently at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and is worth at least 100 million dollars.
Van Gogh used many elements of art and principles of design. He used composition, which is a huge element of art. It includes balance, proportion, emphasis, rhythm, movement, unity, contrast and pattern. Van Gogh used all of them for his painting. For the elements of art, he used color, line, form, shape, texture, mass and light. As we can see in the painting, there is a lot of color. Mostly blue, yellow and white are visible the most because of the sky. Obviously, he was focused more on the sky of the drawing to create spiral effects with a lot of lines to show the effect. Shape was more used to make the little houses. However, he used lines in his whole painting. The mountains, the tree, the sky, the buildings and roads were all done in straight or curly lines. The texture and light added to the painting brought more emotion and effect to the people viewing this work.
The cypress tree is made with the mass element of art. This could be related to death or a horror event. Nobody knows what Van Goph means with this tree, but it’s a possibility knowing that he was depressed while painting it. The rhythm is mainly related to his swirls in the sky, and it creates a pattern. By adding the swirls in the sky, it gives the effect of a windy day in a spooky neighborhood. The balance is perfect because the sun and the tree aren't on the same side. In brief, Van Goph uses a lot of elements and design to present his work and his emotions.
To conclude, I’m really impressed of how talented the artist is despite some negativity in his projects. I don’t like to see people suffer and not feel happy because we only have one life to live. After discovering his life and what he did, it made me understand more about his mental health and his work. My main reaction about the work is I feel related because sometimes people get thoughts of negativity or don’t feel enough for someone. To be honest, I think he was trying to tell us that his life isn't going too well and that he is stuck in a dark place. Another possibility is that he feels unsafe in that certain place where he drew the painting. He could also feel shocked about something that came to his life. Therefore, my understanding did change a little bit because I thought it was related to a horror event. Most paintings send messages that we would have never guessed the meaning because a work could mean anything. My point of view for The Starry Night has evolved and made me realize that artists don’t do art for quality. They do it to express themselves or teach us something that could be useful for the rest of our lives.

Hi there, wanted to add a little to this post since I do own a King. First of all, it's horrible to hear that someone would cut so much hair off of a King especially so if it is a young one. This must have been very traumatizing for him, I hope he can recover quickly and grow back his wonderfull hair.
Now first things first, get a hide that looks like a Castle. These have been proven to be the hides that Childhood staged Kings prefer and feel the safest at, they don't need any decoration for the inside of the hide. Most Kings will actually get frustrated with decoration getting tangled up in their hair.
Second, Roroca Starry Gummys! They are a great, little, vitamin filled treats that are 100% safe for Islander variety Isatlings. For your King I recommend the "Roroca Starry Leo Gummys" since those contain Vitamins that support hair growth & strenghten the hair, reducing the risk of hair loss.
And Third, get some Glow in the dark Stars or a Nightlight that projects a Starry nightsky onto the ceiling if you life in light poluted area. Kings frequently come out at night and see if they can spot the stars. When no stars are provided it will cause the King to get more anxious, leading to more agressive beahviours towards other Isatlings, yourself or worst of all himself (Shell biting isn't a soothing technic like many belive, its a big sign that your King is extremly stressed about something. You should offer him something softer to bite while you find and fix the problem.)
So my cousine bought a "Siffrin" or what they assumed was a Siffrin...It was a King who had it's hair cut, it was in very distressed and after I told him that it was a King he dropped it on me. (The shelters nearby were either full or refused to take him...)
So now I have a vet visit planned since this is my first time owning a King and I pressume that havinf a King with shorthair is very bad. If anyone could give me more advice that would be very helpfull thanks.
While a King does need occasional trimming, it should never have short enough hair that they can be mistaken for a Siffrin. The hair of a King is vital for temperature regulation, and a King with hair shorter than shoulder length is likely to experience immense distress as hair often acts as an object of comfort for Kings, both emotionally and physically.
Make sure you’re managing their hair! Keep track of how long your King’s hair has grown by measuring it every few days and writing down the new measurement. Consistent growth is indicative of a content and healthy King. To avoid breakage, brush the King’s hair and tie it back- preferably in a braid. For a new King that’s not very trusting, I suggest braiding their hair during baths or feedings, and wear paper type Craft gloves (both to avoid any rock attacks, and because your King might bite. If any of these occur, leave the King alone temporarily to calm down). Don’t over-shampoo, as it can damage the hair more than help it. Shampoo at most once a week, or whenever absolutely necessary. And, I cannot stress this enough: Invest in good hair and shell oil. I recommend ShinePlux or Bright-Specialty Products. Avoid charcoal hair products: they risk staining the hair, which is an absolute no no for Kings. Keep your King’s armor blindingly shiny and his hair utterly darkless!!!
Take note of any hair loss or thinning, as it can indicate health problems and abnormal stress. A healthy King should have long darkless hair that doesn’t tangle when brushed (this applies to any variant of a King, regardless of hair texture) and is shiny- not greasy- in appearance.
Kings are also a much larger species than Siffrins, so it’s possible that your King may be in its childhood stage? Despite their later size, a King starts out relatively small, and grows to a taller height later in its life through a sudden stage of rapid moltings. Keep an eye out for any pre-molt behaviors like diminished appetite, fatigue, and distancing.
Definitely reach out to any Planetarium Houses for advice! Since Kings of the Islander variety, these specialized Houses are often very informed about them, and tend to have one of their own.
#isat husbandry#isathusbandry#isat#in stars and time#isat king#keep the gummys at a safe place tho#my King loves them and has tried many times to get into the Kitchen cabine to snack on some

Hèrmes Wins MetaBirkins Lawsuit Update 2/8/23: After over a year of litigation, Hérmes has won its lawsuit against the creator of the NFT project MetaBirkins, Mason Rothschild. The company was awarded $133,000 in damages and jurors found that the MetaBirkin NFTs were not art protected by the First Amendment.Original 1/18/22: Things are getting messy in the metaverse. Over the holidays, artist Mason Rothschild posted an open letter on Instagram to address an alleged cease and desist sent to him by Hèrmes. The issue at hand? MetaBirkins, a collection of 100 virtual Birkin bag-inspired non-fungible tokens (aka NFTs or a blockchain's digital assets) that Rothschild created and launched for sale. The Fashion Law has been doing an incredible job covering and keeping up with the saga from a legal perspective (yes, it's been going on for months). To recap, we broke down the main talking points and laid out how things escalated over the past year between the French luxury brand and the digital creator, which ended up in a lawsuit. We'll continue to update as more events unfold.May 2021: Mason Rothschild Launches "Baby Birkin" NFTBefore the MetaBirkins went viral, Rothschild launched a single "Baby Birkin" NFT through a collaboration with Eric Ramirez, listed at the time as "an ironic nod to the iconic Birkin bag by Hèrmes." The NFT, which featured a 40-week-old fetus on top of the transparent (virtual) bag, was launched on the curated social and shopping platform Basic.Space and sold and then resold for just under 13 Etheruem (a form of cryptocurrency, second only to Bitcoin in market capitalization) which equals to about $23,500. The project did not face any pushback from Hèrmes.November 2021: Mason Rothschild Launches "MetaBirkins" NFTs and Instagram Account100 MetaBirkins are introduced and sold through the online marketplace OpenSea, each rendered in bright colors and faux fur and some with artworks like the Mona Lisa and Van Gogh's Starry Night. The rapper Future sings its praises online. But this time, Hèrmes makes their thoughts known. “These NFTs infringe upon the intellectual property and trademark rights of Hermès and are an example of fake Hermès products in the metaverse,” the company told the Financial Times.December 2021: Mason Rothschild Addresses Alleged Cease and Desist Letter From HèrmesThe artist takes to Instagram to respond to an alleged cease and desist he received from the French luxury brand. "The First Amendment gives me every right to create art based on my interpretations of the world around me," he wrote. "MetaBirkins is a playful abstraction of an existing fashion-culture landmark. I re-interpreted the form, materiality and name of a known cultural touchpoint." He also took issue with OpenSea removing MetaBirkins from its platform. For now, Rothschild is selling them on Rarible, another NFT marketplace.January 2022: Hèrmes Sues MetaBirkins Creator Mason RothschildHermès officially files a trademark infringement and dilution lawsuit against Mason Rothschild. In the complaint filed in a New York federal court on Friday, January 14, as reported by TFL, Hermès alleges that Rothschild is a "digital speculator who is seeking to get rich quick by appropriating the brand MetaBirkins for use in creating, marketing, selling, and facilitating the exchange of digital assets known as non-fungible tokens."In response, Rothschild published an open letter on the MetaBirkins social media accounts, saying that the brand's claims are "groundless" and they he and his lawyer look forward to defeating them in court.
