Two films produced by MIT were honored with Emmy nominations by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Boston/New England Chapter. Both “We Are the Forest” and “No Drop to Spare” illustrate international conversations the MIT community is having about the environment and climate change.
“We Are the Forest,” produced by MIT Video Productions (MVP) at MIT Open Learning, was one of six nominees in the Education/Schools category. The documentary highlights the cultural and scientific exchange of the MIT Festival Jazz Ensemble, MIT Wind Ensemble, and MIT Vocal Jazz Ensemble in the Brazilian Amazon. The excursion depicted in the film was part of the ongoing work of Frederick Harris Jr., MIT director of wind and jazz ensembles and senior lecturer in music, to combine Brazilian music and environmental research.
“No Drop to Spare,” created by the Department of Mechanical Engineering (MechE), was nominated in the Environment/Science and Video Essayist categories. The film, produced by John Freidah, MechE senior producer and creative lead, follows a team of researchers from the K. Lisa Yang Global Engineering and Research (GEAR) Center working in Kenya, Morocco, and Jordan to deploy affordable, user-driven smart irrigation technology.
“We Are the Forest” tells the story of 80 MIT student musicians who traveled to Manaus, Brazil in March 2023. Together with Indigenous Brazilian musicians and activists, the students played music, created instruments with found objects from the rainforest, and connected their musical practice to nature and culture. The trip and the documentary culminated with the concert “Hearing Amazônia: Art and Resistance.”
“We have an amazing team who are excited to tell the stories of so many great things that happen at MIT,” says Clayton Hainsworth, director for MVP. “It’s a true pleasure when we get to partner with the Institute’s community on these video projects — from Fred [Harris], with his desire for outreach of the music curriculum, giving students new perspectives and getting beyond the lab; to students getting to experience the world and seeing how that affects their next steps as they go out and make an impact.”
The documentary was produced by Hainsworth, directed by Jean Dunoyer, staff editor at MVP, and filmed by Myles Lowery, field production videographer at MVP. Hainsworth credits Dunoyer with refining the story’s main themes: the universality of music as a common human language, and the ways that Indigenous communities can teach and inform the rest of the globe about the environment and the challenges we are all facing.
“The film highlights the reach of how MIT touches the world and, more importantly, how the world touches MIT,” says Hainsworth, adding that the work was generously supported by A. Neil Pappalardo ’64 and Jane Pappalardo.
“No Drop to Spare” evoked a similar sentiment from Freidah. “What I liked about this story was the potential for great impact,” says Freidah, discussing the MechE film’s production process. “It was global, it was being piloted in three different places in the world, with three different end users, and had three different applications. You sort of go in with an idea in mind of what the story might be, then things bubble up. In this story, as with so many stories, what rose to the top was the students and the impact they were having on the real world and end users.”
Freidah has worked with Amos Winter SM ’05, PhD ’11, associate professor of mechanical engineering and MIT GEAR Center principal investigator, to highlight other impact global projects in the past, including producing a video in 2016. That film, “Water is Life,” explores the development of low-cost desalination systems in India.
While the phrase “it’s an honor to be nominated” might seem cliched, it remains often used because the sentiment almost always rings true. Although neither film triumphed at this year’s awards ceremony, Freidah says there’s much to be celebrated in the final product.
“Seeing the effect this piece had, and how it highlighted our students, that’s the success story — but it’s always nice also to receive recognition from outside.”
The 47th Boston/New England Emmy Awards Ceremony took place on June 8 at the Marriott Boston Copley Place. A list of nominees and winners can be found on the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Boston/New England Chapter website.

Deniece Williams is an incredibly talented singer, songwriter, and producer who has been making hit music for over 50 years. Her voice is enchanting, with a distinctive coloratura soprano and a four-octave range. She is a two-time inductee into The SoulMusic Hall Of Fame in the categories' Female Artist' and 'Lifetime Achievement.'
In the early 1970s, Deniece began her career working in a record store and then as a backup singer. She went on to become part of the female vocal trio Honeycone. In 1976, she released her debut solo album "This Is Niecy," produced by Maurice White of Earth, Wind & Fire and Charles Stepney.
"I met Maurice through a mutual friend. I had some songs on tape that I wanted him to hear," she said in an interview with Classic Soul 1976. "We had a conversation, and he told me that he thought that I should sing them myself rather than letting them go to everyone else." Deniece went on to explain she'd been concentrating on writing and getting her songs recorded. "I felt that I should get into one area — publishing — and then concentrate on others. Which is why I waited until I was ready to record."
She said of Charles Stepney, "He's probably one of the most incredibly talented arrangers that the music industry ever had. He was a very integral part of my music and the whole production and arrangement of my music and my voice. There's only been one other person in my musical life who has understood my music the way Charles Stepney did as an arranger, and he is Thom Bell."
The album featured the hit single "Free," which rose to #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and was certified gold by the RIAA.
"It's amazing when you can write a lyric, and you think you're the only person that's having this experience," she said about writing "Free." "Then you put it out there, and you find out that millions and millions of people feel the same way. I think that is what happened with Free. People really do want the freedom to be themselves and to have self-expression. Also somebody told me that I was the first woman that they heard in music that told those women at that time that 'you don't have to stay'."
Deniece is also known as a prolific songwriter, with Merry Clayton, the Whispers, Frankie Valli, Billy Preston, the Emotions, and Johnny Mathis recording her songs. One of the biggest songs in her career is the infectious dance song "Let's Hear It for the Boy" from the motion picture "Footloose." The single hit #1 on Billboard's Pop and Black charts and went platinum.
Throughout her illustrious career, including 12 Grammy nominations and four wins, Deniece Williams has become known as a singer of catchy, powerful anthems of love and romance. Her music is spiritual, and she considers it an essential part of her life. Deniece's music has touched millions of people worldwide and continues inspiring new generations of musicians and music lovers alike.

She’s lost Flora.
There is, Dani thinks with the forced calm of one already beginning to spiral, little cause to panic. The house is big, but it’s not that big--and Flora is a good kid. She’s not exactly prone to just wandering off. She certainly wouldn’t, say, vanish from sight and reappear somewhere unexpected, suddenly acting like she didn’t entirely remember the time in between.
That doesn’t sound like Flora at all.
She isn’t running, per se, from room to room. Running would suggest there is a problem to be handled, and if she starts thinking along those lines--if she starts obsessing about Flora’s distinctly off-putting way of gazing over her shoulder, of saying things just a little too odd to be hand-waved away, of looking at Dani as though she can see straight through her to the unease thrumming under the surface--well. That way lies nothing useful. Nothing at all.
“Have you seen Flora?” The kitchen had seemed a good bet. Here, after all, is Owen, puttering away over the ingredients for the evening’s meal, his mood somber as he uses the manor to avoid reflecting on his mother’s upcoming funeral. Here is Hannah, dutifully rearranging the china, pretending not to steal glances at Owen’s lanky frame every few seconds. That spot at the table is made for Flora, little legs hanging off the chair, brimming with questions--
But Flora isn’t there, and Owen is shaking his head.
“Not since lunch. Lost her, have you?”
No, she almost snaps. A count of three, a long-held breath; she smiles tightly, reminding herself that this is not Owen’s fault, nor Owen’s job. The children will be your responsibility alone, after all.
“She’s quick,” she says instead. Hannah purses her lips.
“Perhaps upstairs with Miles?”
She isn’t. Miles, bent over a book with a solemn expression, blinks up at her as though she’s dragged him by the shirt collar out of the actual wardrobe to Narnia.
“She asked me to color--what time is it?”
“Two,” Dani says, sparing the briefest glance for her watch. He shrugs.
“An hour ago, I think? I told her to ask Hannah.” A flash of concern crosses his face, a too-adult creasing of brow. “Was that wrong? I just wanted to finish my book--”
“It’s fine,” Dani assures him, ruffling his hair. Too-adult, his expression may be, but this is the most kid she’s seen Miles in days. The last thing she wants is to dissuade him from reading, or from the loose sprawl of his posture.
An hour, though. In the days since coming to Bly, Dani can’t remember twenty minutes passing without Flora turning up underfoot.
Outside, she thinks with another swell of barely-restrained panic. She’s outside. By the lake, probably, where Flora can so often be found keeping company with dolls and talismans and snatches of ethereal song.
It isn’t exactly a reassuring thought, particularly with summer rain sluicing down the windows, scattering over the roof like pellets. A storm, it isn’t, but an eight-year-old girl has no business wandering in weather like this.
You'd have loved it, at her age, Dani reminds herself. There’s nothing at all wrong with a little girl puddle-jumping for the sheer joy of it. Flora probably got bored, cooped up with a bunch of busy adults and her brother uninterested in playing games. She’s fine. She’s almost certainly fine.
An umbrella is waiting beside the door, still damp from Owen’s trip in before breakfast. Dani takes a breath, pops it open, steels herself for the brisk wind.
The grounds are gray, the puddles turning the grass to a squelchy mess beneath her shoes. She keeps her head up, her eyes carefully turned away from the puddles which sit like recklessly-dropped mirrors at every turn; if she so much as glances down and spots a flash of glasses, she’s not sure she’ll be able to keep her composure.
Flora is not by the lake, as it turns out. Nor the statue gardens. Nor the rose bushes. Flora is nowhere, she’s starting to think, and her mind is finally turning toward the worst--toward the depth of that lake, how easily a small girl might slip off the embankment and tumble headlong into its hungry waves without notice--when she remembers the greenhouse.
Jamie will help. The thought rises without warning, a solid patch of sunlight at the center of the storm. Jamie will help--because Jamie knows every corner of these grounds as well as her own hands. Jamie, who maybe doesn’t know Dani all that well, but didn’t seem to mind offering gentle reassurance, exchanging unexpectedly deep conversation on the couch...or Dani taking her hand in the dark. Jamie, who had said, Who the hell knew? Jamie, who had worn an expression a little like awe.
They haven’t had time to talk about it since, but even so. Even so, for Flora, Jamie is sure to--
She hesitates at the door, fist raised to knock. It feels foolish, rapping on the entry to a greenhouse like it’s Jamie’s own bedroom--but this is, she reasons, as close to Jamie’s home as she’s ever likely to get.
“Jamie, are you...”
“Here,” her voice comes from somewhere just out of sight. Dani takes a cautious step in out of the rain, jostling the umbrella and pulling it hastily shut. Best not to invite bad luck--she’s certainly already had her share.
“I’m looking for Flora,” she calls, feeling a bit silly. There’s so much going on in this room--plants and tables, pots and a variety of outdoor furniture draped with old blankets. Normally, Jamie is easy to spot amid the riot of greens and pinks, her hands busy coaxing seedlings to life. Today, Dani feels as though she’s tripped and fallen into a game of hide and seek.
“Don’t have to look far,” Jamie’s voice comes again--from behind the sofa, Dani thinks. “C’mere.”
“Miss Clayton!” Flora pipes up, and Dani feels the tension leave her body in a violent rush. Her hand grips the nearest table for support, her eyes closing in relief. “Come color with us”
“Come--sorry?” She can’t have heard right. Jamie? Jamie the gardener, putting aside work and temper to waste an afternoon on crayons?
Yes--yes, that appears to be exactly what Jamie is doing. Sprawled on her stomach, still dressed in her coveralls, she’s got a blue crayon in hand and a green one tucked behind her ear. She glances up as Dani steps nearer, a smile lighting her face.
“Kid came stumbling in out of the rain an hour ago. Expect she didn’t think to warn you in advance?”
“Sorry.” Flora offers a sheepish smile, sitting up quickly. “Are you very cross?”
“No, of course not.” Just going to need a minute to purge the image of finding you facedown in the goddamned lake, is all. “Next time, though, you’ll have to tell me you’re leaving the house alone. I need to know where you are at all times, Flora.”
She expects Jamie to scoff at this--to say, Ah, she was with me, she’s fine. Instead, Jamie stretches over to land a sharp flick on Flora’s upper arm.
“Rude to make Poppins worry. Look, she’s gone all pink.” She looks up at Dani, grinning. “Not a bad look, if we’re in the market for honesty.”
Dani suspects pink is the lightest shade she can manage, with Jamie gazing at her that way. It’s too easy, all of a sudden, to remember an unexpectedly soft hand under her own fingers, Jamie turning reflexively at the wrist to hold her back.
“I’m terribly sorry,” Flora says, a phrase Dani is starting to think is more Flora than even perfectly splendid. “Here--I was just about to do one of you!”
Jamie gestures with the blue crayon, a silent suggestion for Dani to sit beside her. “Might as well. Rain doesn’t look like it’s letting up anytime soon.” She lowers her voice, eyes fixed on Flora’s determined rummage through the crayon box. “Sorry about that, Poppins. Know she’s been unpredictable lately, didn’t like the idea of her stumping around in the cold. If I’d known you were worried--”
“It’s all right.” In truth, she’s glad Flora made her way out here. Growing more pleased by the moment with this development, really, as Jamie slides a blank sheet of paper in front of her and presses a purple crayon into her hand.
“Join us. We’re doing portraiture.”
“I can see that,” Dani laughs. Jamie’s handiwork speaks of a distinct lack of care for detail--each sketch on her page is, at best, a stick figure with a single defining feature. “How does Owen hold up his head, carrying a mustache the size of his torso?”
“With minimal decorum,” Jamie says, grinning. “And she’s right, it’s your turn.”
Dani suspects she’s going less pink, more a volatile shade of maroon, with both parties squinting at her face, their papers, her face again. Flora is doing her very best work, taking several minutes just to select the closest shades of blue, yellow, pink. Jamie makes an enormous production of holding up a crayon, closing one eye, gauging proportions--and then, cheerfully, scrawling a figure identical to the other four already on the page.
“I’m taller than Hannah?” Dani asks, unable to resist a giggle. Jamie frowns.
“Ah, you’re...standin’ on a crate.” She adds a box beneath Dani’s non-existent feet with a flourish, nodding. “There. It’s symbolic.”
“Of what?”
“I’ve ranked you all on how much I like you. Takin’ into account, of course, certain accusations pointed my way regarding mud and shiny floorboards.” Jamie winks. Dani finds herself gripping her crayon almost hard enough to hurt.
“You’re not drawing, Miss Clayton!” Flora observes. Dani glances away from Jamie’s smile--a difficult act only a few days ago, nearly impossible now--and clears her throat.
“Well. Maybe just until the rain stops.”
There are, she thinks as a comfortable quiet settles over the greenhouse, infinitely worse ways to spend her afternoon.

The upcoming benefit, celebrating the New York Public Library's Billy Rose Theatre Division, honors George C. Wolfe and the late Harold Prince.
Additional artists have joined the upcoming I'm Still Here benefit, celebrating the 90th anniversary of The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts’ Billy Rose Theatre Division and the 50th anniversary of its Theatre on Film and Tape Archive.
Honoring Tony-winning directors George C. Wolfe and the late Harold Prince, I’m Still Here will stream on Broadway on Demand June 23 at 8 PM ET.

DAVID PETERS (MOONLIGHT ON THE HIGHWAY, 1969)
A troubled young man, David Peters (Ian Holm), claims, "Once dreams were possible, that's what the popular songs told us." Rejecting rock music of the day, Peters is immersed in the tunes of Thirties crooner Al Bowlly (killed during the London blitz). He collects Bowlly memorabilia, publishes the Bowlly fan-club newsletter, and finds pleasure in lip-synching Bowlly records but his obsession with Bowlly masks certain darker events in his past.
DOCTOR ASTROV (UNCLE VANYA, 1991)
In this televised production of Anton Chekhov’s play, Sir Ian Holm plays a village medic who, at the start, is an idealist with great passion for the preservation of trees. But, as time passes, everyone ignores what he says and he falls in love with a married woman, the character of Doctor Astrov slowly grows more and more tired and disappointed with himself, the world and humanity, fallin in alcoholism.
POD CLOCK (THE BORROWERS AND RETURN OF THE BORROWERS, 1992-93)
I dare say that, despite being 61 years old at the time, this is the role in wich i felt Sir Ian Holm performed the most of phisical acting. Pod Clock is the patriarch of a family of people that are the size of little fingers, and to raise his family, he has to ride sinks, run away from cats and big birds and be carefull of mouse traps to borrow food and other needs. All the while trying to avoid being seen by humans. That’s what i call an action hero.
ASH (ALIEN, 1979)
The amoral android that made him a movie star. Do i need to say more?
CAPTAIN FLUELLEN (HENRY V, 1989)
In this Kenneth Branagh adaptation of the William Shakespeare historical play, we see Sir Ian Holm performance as Captain Fluellen, a man that is a geek of military tactics history as he is proud of being welsh. Fluellen has a fun energy that makes him likable, at the same time that he is intimidating in his ruthleness in support a cruel execution in the name of military discipline.
VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN/THE CREATURE (MISTERY AND IMAGINATION: FRANKENSTEIN, 1968)
Before Benedict Cumberbatch in theater, there was Sir Ian Holm portraying both Doctor Victor Frankenstein and his Creature in this televised 1968 adaptation of Mary Shelley’s famous gothic sci-fi novel. His portrayal of the two characters is one of the most closest to the book characterization’s to this day: Victor Frankenstein as an ambitious and self-absorved student, and the Creature as a person who tries to be good, but due to abandonment and discrimination suffered due to his phisical appearance, becomes corrupted with an obsession for revenge against his creator. And Sir Ian puts those foil personalities marvellously.
LENNY (THE HOMECOMING, 1973)
The Homecoming is a 1973 British-American drama film directed by Peter Hall based on the play of the same name by Harold Pinter.
In a dreary North London flat, the site of perpetual psychological warfare, a philosophy professor , Teddy, visits his family after a nine-year absence, and introduces his father, Max, his uncle, Sam, and two brothers, Lenny and Joey, to his wife Ruth.
Sir Ian Holm plays Lenny, a pimp who only makes discreet references to his "occupation" and his clientele and flats in the city (London). He is the character with the most cynical lines and who start the sexual tension between the man of the family with Ruth, not carrying at all if she is married to his brother Teddy.
There’s a character that anyone will love to hate.
PHILLIPE D'ARNOT (GREYSTOKE: THE LEGEND OF TARZAN, LORD OF THE APES, 1984)
A Belgian explorer who discovered Tarzan (John Clayton) in the jungle, taught him the way of man, and brought him to his family in England. Is Phillipe’s friendship with Tarzan and their eventual departure that becomes the emotional core of the picture.
LEWIS CARROLL (DREAMCHILD, 1985)
“Dreamchild” is a film written by screenwriter and playwright Dennis Potter. It was actually effectively a remake of an earlier project of his: the 1960s TV Play “Alice,” which had starred George Baker as Charles Dodgson, a.k.a Lewis Carroll – the man behind the “Alice” stories. But while “Alice” had been focused on Dodgson himself and his experiences with Alice Liddell (the little girl who inspired him to write the stories) and her family, “Dreamchild” takes a different approach. The 1985 film focuses instead on an elderly Alice Hargreaves (nee Liddell), who visits America to celebrate Dodgson’s centenary. During her stay, she has various nightmares, flashbacks, and hallucinations. Some of these have her seeing characters from the books, such as the Mock Turtle, the Mad Hatter, and the Caterpillar. Others are reflections on her childhood and the time she knew Lewis Carroll. Holm plays Carroll in these sequences, and the film plays with several myths and rumors about his relationship with Alice and her family…but it does so in a very clever way. Unlike the earlier TV play, which seems to treat these rumors and myths as fact, “Dreamchild” is far more ambiguous: nothing is confirmed or denied. It’s simply presented, and the audience is left to decide what is true, what is false, and how much it all really matters in the end. Holm brilliantly handles this ambiguity: in another actor’s hands, the character could have been perceived as thoroughly unsavory, but there’s such a gentleness, kindness, and overall innocence to Holm’s work that you can never really feel frightened or bothered. You feel for the man, no matter his flaws, and it makes his story just as compelling as Alice’s own.
RICHARD III (THE WARS OF THE ROSES, 1965)
The Wars of the Roses was a 1963 theatrical adaptation of William Shakespeare's first historical tetralogy (1 Henry VI, 2 Henry VI, 3 Henry VI and Richard III), which deals with the conflict between the House of Lancaster and the House of York over the throne of England, a conflict known as the Wars of the Roses. The plays were adapted by John Barton, and directed by Barton himself and Peter Hall at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. The production starred David Warner as Henry VI, Peggy Ashcroft as Margaret of Anjou, Donald Sinden as the Duke of York, Paul Hardwick as the Duke of Gloucester, Janet Suzman as Joan la Pucelle, Brewster Mason as the Earl of Warwick, Roy Dotrice as Edward IV, Susan Engel as Queen Elizabeth and Ian Holm as Richard III.The plays were heavily politicised, with Barton and Hall allowing numerous contemporaneous events of the early 1960s to inform their adaptation. The production was a huge critical and commercial success, and is generally regarded as revitalizing the reputation of the Henry VI plays in the modern theatre. Many critics feel The Wars of the Roses set a standard for future productions of the tetralogy which has yet to be surpassed. In 1965, the BBC adapted the plays for television. The broadcast was so successful that they were shown again, in a differently edited form, in 1966.
In this production, the major theme is how the dispute for the crown of king is an endless cycle of violence that traps people, and this theme is highlighted in Sir Ian Holm’s performance as Richard III. His portrayal is more humanized and tragic, showing he was first a loving son and brother, until the vision of his father’s death in battle and the mistakes that his older brother, Edward IV, makes at the start of his reign, motivates him to become king, no mather if it is even at the cost of his relatives lifes. At first, Richard looks like he is in control of the situation, but later, as the final battle comes close, frightened by the ghost of the people he killed, he has to confront the harsh truth: Richard is only another pawn in the game of chest of a bloody History. Just like every other king that camed before him.
PUCK (A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM, 1968)
Sir Ian Holm played the character of Puck, a.k.a Robin Goodfellow, in a 1968 feature film adaptation of the play. The feature was poorly received at the time, but has gained a bit more of a following in recent years, particularly from avid Shakespeareans. Its chiefest pro is probably the casting of Holm in the role of Puck: he’s quick-witted, curious, and just a little baudy, but with a sharp and slightly dangerous intensity to him. You’re never quite sure what to make of Puck, and that makes him interesting, as he leaps from scene to scene, spreading chaos everywhere he turns.
FRODO AND BILBO BAGGINS (THE LORD OF THE RINGS, 1981 AND 2001-03)
The most famous nephew and uncle in literature. He played the nephew in the radio in 1981, and the uncle in the feature films between 2001-03.
A lot of people were introduced to Sir Ian Holm’s work and becamed Lord of the Rings after being introduced to those performances.
In both roles, he was merry, he was funny, he was frightened, he was scary, he was brave and determined, he was sad. And all of us, listeners and viewers, related to those feelings transmited by his performances as Frodo and Bilbo.
Everyone has talked a lot about those performances, and everyone will probably will still be talking about them in the future.

The lighting in this theater really liked my camera and I know the show almost “by heart” so I think I followed the action as well as possible. NOTES: Closing show! Or “rock concert” if you ask Christy Altomare. Yeah so this is a pretty obstructed video. Everyone was really excited so people were standing up, people were moving around, and honestly I had a little trouble paying attending to my viewfinder with all of the tears streaming down my face. Like Beetlejuice I would say it’s mostly like highlights, but all of the things that happen in the center part of the stage are captured really well and the video is DEFINITELY Christy centric. “Journey to the Past” is complete and gorgeous and you will cry. First act starts around when Anya meets Dmitry and the second act starts during “Crossing A Bridge.”

Persephone Tarot Card Deck
Hello everyone! So for as long as I can remember, I’ve been obsessed with Persephone and the mythology surrounding her. I would like to write stories about her someday, but that’s not what I’m here to talk about. Right now I’m planning a different project, which you can probably discern from the title of the post. I would like to make a tarot deck (Major and Minor Arcana) using Persephones from different stories (movies, video games, shows, comics, ect).
I will be using a wide variety of adaptations and interpretations both popular and obscure, from ones I love a lot, to ones I’m indifferent or don’t care too much for, to ones I’ve only heard of (I’ll be sure to read/watch/play the thing before making the card so I can properly plan and decide). I was even planning on doing small write-ups in the description to compare each interpretation to each other and the original myth and give my personal opinion on different aspects (design, personality, agency, relationship with Hades/Demeter/others, ect)
I already have some interpretations picked, like Lore Olympus, Assassin’s Creed, Hadestown, The Goddess of Spring Silly Symphonies short, both Marvel and DC’s versions, the Percy Jackson movie, and others! But since I’m only one person and there’s only so much research I can do to try and fill out the deck (I have it mostly filled but there are still open slots), I thought I’d reach out to the Tumblr community and ask you all if you have any stories with Persephone in them that you could recommend? Depending on the amount of suggestions I get, I can’t guarantee I’ll add all suggestions, but I’d really appreciate any help people could offer ^_^
I will say that I’m trying to stick with media that has a clear visual for Persephone, like comics, games, or shows. So I probably won’t do books that only have texts descriptions (with admittedly a couple of exceptions on my part), so that’s something to keep in mind for suggestions.

Chapter 214: Worlds Collide, Pt 3
Summer was growing exhausted, as she kept nullifying Mephisto's fireballs by putting them in her bubbles and extinguishing them, while her siblings fought off his heavily armed gang.
"We have to make sure they don't destroy the museum. We can't let all this history be destroyed," Eva feared.
"Yeah...we need to draw them out of here for sure," Emma agreed, as she blasted more of them back.
"He's definitely given these guys an upgrade in fighting skills and power," Leo said, as he breathed heavily, following a fist fight with one of the thugs.
"All right kid, you're our resident powerhouse. What do you suggest?" Emma asked her baby brother.
"An earthquake is the last thing we want in the museum, Emmy," he argued, but then smirked.
"But I think I have a new trick up my sleeve that I've been working on with Mr. Gold," he said. Rumple nodded.
"Now would be the time, lad," Rumple said, as three more of the thugs dropped dead, thanks to the Dark One snapping their necks.
"So much for not killing," Eva said uncomfortably.
"They're thugs...he just saved a ton of lives by killing them. They would have gone on to kill innocent people," Leo reasoned.
"He's right," Regina agreed, as several more dropped, thanks to her. It was drastic, but the stakes were too high. They were already going to be blamed for all the property damage and being the cause of it. But if they had civilian casualties, it would be far worse.
"I won't be surprised if the Major loses the battle with her government and we have them threatening to have the National Guard invade the United Realms," Regina said.
"Mom and Dad will wall us off before they let that happen," Leo assured. She sighed, hoping he was right. Snow and Charming were notoriously forgiving, but after the experience with their darker halves, she hoped they had learned that there were times that the tough decisions had to be made.
"You really think you can take me on, brat?" Mephisto questioned, as the fire in his palms gave the entire room a glow and yet Bobby didn't back away from the intimidating display.
"Considering I can do that too...yeah I think I do," Bobby retorted, as fire came alive in his hands. By now, most of the innocent bystanders had been evacuated, but there were still a few reporters and camera people that were braving the spectacle in order to get in on video.
"And I can do way more than that...like this," Bobby said, as he grabbed Mephisto's wrists.
"I may be able to wield all the elements, but I still specialize in earth powers," he said, as they disappeared with a jade green puff of smoke.
"Look!" Leo called, as they saw something burrowing beneath them through the ground and followed it outside the museum. There was another puff of jade green smoke, as the two emerged from the ground and Bobby tossed Mephisto onto a parked car.
"Ooohhh…I hope they have insurance," Emma commented. Mephisto was seething, as he pulled himself off the wrecked car.
"If you think for a second that this is over, brat...you have another thing coming," Mephisto growled, as disappeared in a fiery display of flames. His four older siblings descended upon him at that point, patting him on the back and ruffling his hair.
"That was awesome!" Leo exclaimed.
"Yeah...he was pissed. Good work, kid," Emma congratulated him. Bobby looked down a bit shyly.
"Thanks," he said.
"Come on...we need to find Mom, Dad, and Grandpa Xander," Eva said. They all agreed and with the rest of their family, they ventured back inside the museum to try and discern where they could have gone.

Snow and David chased them through the Museum, but when they followed them into the Ancient Egypt exhibit, they found the room empty.
"We lost them," Xander hissed.
"No...there's no way out of this room other than the way we came in," Snow realized.
"She's right," he said, as they willed the chalice forth in its joined form and used it to scan the room for any residual magic or portals. There was an ethereal glow on the replica of the Giza pyramid and they exchanged a glance.
"That's why no one can ever find them. They're using this exhibit to portal somewhere else," David said.
"But this land has no magic without the two of you in the vicinity," Xander said.
"No...but would creating a portal with some of Clayton's technology be impossible?" Snow asked and he sighed.
"No...that's very possible," he agreed, as the chalice glowed and the magic opened up the portal from the residual trail left by whatever technology they had used to slip away.
"We have no idea what we're walking into," Xander warned.
"No...we don't. But we don't have a choice. We have to stop them and it looks like we're the only ones that can," David said, as he looked at Snow.
"The kids will find us too…" she assured them. They nodded and walked through the portal.

"Wow...this is a really old book," Tink mentioned.
"It is and it was really hard to find. That's why I think it might be important," Rose replied.
"But I thought you were able to catalog everything in the library?" Neal asked.
"I was...that's why this one is so unique. This book is not in my catalog," she replied.
"The plot thickens," Tink said, as she flipped through it.
"Because new books literally appear all the time, that's happened from time to time, but I just have a feeling that this one had help appearing," Rose replied.
"You think it was being hidden, my angel?" Fandral asked.
"It's possible. I don't know who is suddenly helping us or maybe it's because Blue has committed the ultimate crime," Tink replied.
"The murder of another fairy," she said.
"Not to mention a human, even a deplorable one," Fandral added.
"Who did Blue answer to as Head Fairy?" Neal asked.
"Zeus himself," Tink replied, as he took the book.
"And who do you answer to now that you're Head Fairy and Zeus is dead?" he asked.
"Well…I've had no formal meeting with any other Gods, except Aphrodite. I suppose it would be Athena, but she has yet to formally meet with me," Tink replied.
"And if Zeus, for some reason, forbade Athena from interfering, she might use other means to get the information to us," Rose deduced.
"It's entirely possible," Tink agreed.
"Did Blue ever answer to Hera?" Neal asked.
"No…Hera would have never had any authority over the fairies. She may have been Zeus' wife, but they hated each other. He didn't trust her," Tink replied.
"That was probably wise...look at this," he said, as he showed them an image on the page.
"That's Blue...and Hera," Tink said.
"Standing over the unconscious body of Aphrodite," Rose added in alarm.
"Can you translate this?" Fandral asked. Tink nodded and used her wand to translate the book from Greek to English.
"We best start at the beginning," Rose said, as she took the book and began to read.

Flashback
The young blonde girl cried, as she looked out over the ocean, tears glistening in her eyes, as the sea foam bubbled to the surface of the crystal blue water.
"It's time, my precious one," Zeus called, as he stood behind her.
"Why Daddy?" she asked.
"Mother has been gone but a few weeks and you are getting married again!" Aphrodite shouted.
"You know it's not my choice, young one," he admonished.
"I am the God of the skies. I must have a Queen...it is one rule I cannot break," he said, as she stood up.
"And it is time for you to learn of your duties. You are the Goddess of love and beauty, daughter of Dione and you will fulfill her vision of championing true love," he announced, as an item appeared in his hand.
"Mother's chalice," she said in awe.
"Your chalice now...its magnificence and power is now yours," he corrected.
"What do I know about true love?" she asked bitterly. He smirked.
"You will, my sweet girl," he assured, as he kissed her forehead.
"Hera will not like that she does not get mother's chalice," Aphrodite said wearily.
"She has no claim to it. You are our pride and joy and she wouldn't want anyone but you to have it," he replied.
"It's a big responsibility…" she said with trepidation.
"One that your mother knew you would excel at. After all, who better than to choose the truest loves each millennium among the mortals than a product of true love herself," he said. Aphrodite smiled and hugged him.
"I miss her, Daddy," she said.
"Me too, sweet girl," he replied. They were both unaware of Hera's blistering gaze upon them from the shadows.

"Are you sure they're okay?" George questioned, as he looked at the pair. The moment James had given Aphrodite true love's kiss, the curse on them shattered, but as a side effect of the complete unlocking on Aphrodite's memories, they collapsed into unconsciousness. Neither Zeus or Dione seemed alarmed though and Nyx had magicked a bed to lay them upon.
"They are fine...this is part of it. They will only awaken when they have relieved their entire past," Zeus assured.
"What kind of curse is this? And who cursed them?" George asked.
"You will know that soon...but not before them," Dione replied and they went back to waiting for them to awaken.

"These are exquisite," the man said, as he examined the artifacts.
"These are genuine Olmec Terracotta's...they're priceless," the woman next to him added, as she looked them over as well.
"Everything has a price...getting these wasn't easy," Natalie commented.
"Yes...they are nearly untouched, despite their age. How did you find these?" the woman asked.
"I'm not an archeologist that plays by the rules, so to speak. But I know what I'm doing and able to excavate certain sites that have forbidden said excavation," Natalie replied.
"Clayton always did hire the best. It seems you have surrounded yourself with the same skillful people that your father did," she commented, looking to Johnny. He smirked.
"I was groomed from birth to step into his shoes," he agreed.
"And I do manage to find the best, however, our previous translator passed and we need a new one for this," Johnny mentioned.
"Oh a quipu...is this the one you've been hoping for?" she asked.
"We'll see," Natalie replied vaguely.
"Well…I may know of someone that can translate this for you. But I expect you to give me a deal on these beauties," she said.
"Then I assume you and Dr. La Guerra are interested in the jade as well?" Johnny asked.
"Normally, I would pass on the jade, but the condition this is in is rare," the doctor replied.
"Then you had better be prepared to pay a pretty penny," a new voice said, as Natalie turned.
"Mother…" she said in a warning tone.
"You'll let these real treasures slip through your fingers on the off chance that another silly quipu will lead you to a grander one that might not even exist," Thalia argued.
"I can't believe you discount the existence of Cibola or El Dorado when I was born in freaking Atlantis," Natalie argued back.
"Clayton was hundreds of years old and knew some of the best explorers. He even knew her ancestor, one of the greatest and most ruthless conquistadors in history," Thalia argued, gesturing to the woman.
"And he still never found it," she finished.
"It's real mother...and I'm going to find it," Natalie snapped back. Thalia sighed.
"You and finding things," she muttered under her breath.
"What?" Natalie asked, but her question was interrupted when Snow, David, and Xander appeared in the secret meeting place.
"Well, well...you found your way here, after all," Johnny said, as he tapped his glass.
"Ladies and Gentlemen...the illustrious Snow White and Prince Charming themselves, in the flesh, along with the chalice of Aphrodite!" he announced, instantly drawing the entire room's attention to them.
"My father's murderers!" he continued, with a hiss.
"We didn't murder him. His own arrogance destroyed him," David snapped back.
"Your chalice...it was all I ever heard about growing up, you know. Father was always a bit miffed that he knew about such an object, but it was the one thing he couldn't collect. Thus why he decided to collect the pair of you," Johnny retorted, as he looked to Xander.
"You remember the stories. I still remember those nights here and there where father was too busy to deal with me and the nannies were at their wits end. But you would get me calmed down and put to bed," he recalled, with a bit of fondness.
"All while you knew you abandoned your own son and your granddaughter that was out there in some group home," he added with a vicious smile.
"Shut up, you little prick," Xander hissed, which only amused the sadistic son of the Collector.
"And you," he said, with reverence, as he looked at Snow.
"Father always was enamored with you the most, because of your resemblance to the Goddess. She was his original obsession," he revealed, surprising them both.
"Oh, didn't know that, did you?" he said.
"I suppose you wouldn't, since the Goddess has had her memories scrambled more times than even you two," he retorted.
"Yes...he almost had it all. He made you crush his heart to cast a curse and he would have had the chalice. And you...but then you know that part. It still haunts you," he leered.
"Shut the hell up," David growled, as he pulled Snow even closer to him.
"And you...the hero Prince Charming. He wanted to be you, in a way, just without all the selfless heroics. The people's Prince...the husband of the fairest of them all. The truest loves. I came to loathe your story," he said bitterly.
"It's not our problem that your narcissistic father didn't hug you enough. Trust us...we never wanted his kind of attention," David retorted.
"Oh, but you got it...every bit of it," Johnny replied.
"We're here to retrieve the stolen items that you took," Snow said, as she looked at Natalie.
"Including the quipu. It's not yours," she added.
"Oh and I suppose you're going to take it from me, Princess?" Natalie challenged.
"Don't tempt her. That's not a fight you'll win," David challenged, as blue eyes met blue eyes.
"I think I can handle more than you know," she challenged back.
"Thinking you have any advantage here would be unwise," the older blonde woman next to Natalie said.
"Who the hell are you?" David asked. She smirked and looked at Xander.
"He is definitely yours," she replied.
"Long time no see...Xander," she purred.
"Thalia," he said stiffly.
"You know her?" David asked.
"Oh he knows me...quite well, in fact," she replied. Snow's eyes narrowed and she looked at her father-in-law.
"How well?" she asked, watching him swallow nervously.
"It only happened a couple of times," he assured.
"Oh my God…" David exclaimed in outrage.
"David...your mother had been gone a long time and I was struggling," he tried to explain.
"Yes...he was. The alcohol...the guilt with you laying in a hospital bed and his granddaughter in an unhappy group home," Thalia revealed.
"Stop it," Xander growled.
"Yes...to be fair, you wanted to reunite your family then, but Clayton convinced you that it would be a mistake," Thalia said.
"I've made a lot of mistakes and I wasn't always a good man. My son knows my shortcomings," Xander insisted.
"Apparently not with the way he's looking at you right now," Thalia said.
"Oh and I suppose your daughter knows everything about you?" he challenged. She frowned.
"Not everything…" Snow interjected and the older blonde glared at her.
"Stay out of this, princess. It's none of your business," she retorted.
"David is my business and I have a feeling there's something that she doesn't know about you," Snow challenged.
"Snow?" David asked, as he watched her look at his father. He sighed. He had known Snow long enough to know that she wouldn't let this go until she had answers for her husband.
"Is she mine?" he asked and Natalie looked alarmed by that question.
"What? Mother?" she asked.
"We're not doing this…" Thalia hissed, as the three of them cried out and a shield appeared around them.
"Ray shields...I think you'll find them quite impervious to your magical chalice," Thalia said, as they tried to use it to nullify the shield, but it didn't work.
"The auction is over for tonight!" she called, as they could only watch, as most of the people dispersed through portals that seemed to be catacombed within the strange chamber.
"Where is this place?" Snow wondered.
"We're hundreds of feet underground. Trust me, no one is going to find you," Natalie refuted.
"Underground?" David asked, as he and Snow shared an amused glance.
"You're going to eat those words," Snow said.
"What about our deal?" doctor La Guerra interjected, as there was suddenly a rumble beneath them and a huge plume of jade green smoke, as Bobby burrowed to the surface with his siblings and Regina, while the others waited on standby on the surface.
"That was the weirdest thing ever, but really cool," Leo said.
"There is a ton of dirt in my hair," Regina complained, as she started trying to brush it out.
"At least your hair is dark enough not to show it," Emma grumbled.
"Mom! Dad!" Eva called, as she ran to them.
"Careful honey...we don't know what this shield is, but the chalice couldn't break through," Snow warned. Regina waved her hand over it.
"It's not any magic I know," she said.
"Maybe it's not magic at all," Leo said, as Eva spotted a control panel on the wall.
"Not one step, princess," Thalia warned, but was shocked when Leo used a lightning bolt to fry the control panel, destroying the shield.
"Let's go…" Johnny growled, as he grabbed Natalie's hand. She spared another glance at them, as Johnny escaped with her and Thalia. The doctor and his companion weren't so lucky.
"Freeze!" David warned, as he pulled his gun on the mysterious pair and they were forced to put their hands up. Emma waved her hand and cuffs appeared on their wrists. David holstered his gun and they used the chalice to create a portal back to the surface.
"No idea who you two are...but you're gonna tell us," he said, as they gathered the stolen artifacts, except the quipu, and filed through the portal.

Flashback
Hera stormed into her Temple and huffed, as she sat down in her Throne.
"For someone that just got married to the All Mighty Zeus...you don't seem very happy," Blue mentioned, as she emerged from the shadows.
Zeus had created the fairies to be messengers between the Gods and mortals. For some reason, the mortals saw fairies as a symbol of good and did not fear them like they did the Gods. Mortals had their reasons to fear the Gods though, since the past was filled with bloodshed between the monarchs of Mount Olympus and humans.
Reul Ghorm had been chosen by him as head of the fairies, but as it often did, power slowly began to corrupt Blue and just as bitterness had set in for Hera, it had for Blue as well.
Blue wanted more power and control over mortals, but Zeus had long forbade it. She had even tried to endear herself to Dione in hopes of having a hand in choosing the truest loves. It was a vision that Dione had and never realized. She planned to select two mortals, who represented the epitome of true love, to bestow the power of her magical chalice to.
The chalice was forged by Dione's mother, Gaia herself, from the essence of the earth she loved so much and all its elements. She gifted it to Dione and she wanted to do good for mortals with it. But the recent Titanomachy had given Hera the perfect opportunity to eliminate the woman that had the Throne she wanted. Dione had been mortally wounded, but it was not what it appeared to be. Hera had colluded with the Titans to topple Zeus and Dione, promising them positions of power if she was crowned Queen if they killed Dione and her precious daughter. Naturally, she betrayed them all and they were cast into Tartarus with her secret remaining unknown. The end result was that Dione was dead and she was Queen now. However, their offspring lived and the coveted chalice now belonged to Aphrodite.
"He gave the chalice to his daughter!" she hissed.
"Then perhaps we need to arrange an accident for the little blonde bimbo," Blue suggested.
"You know that's impossible. The war with the Titans distracted Athena enough that she could not see our deception, but now it will not be so easy," Hera reminded her.
"True and if Zeus loses the apple of his eye...well, there will be no Earth to rule. He would smite us all and the mortals just in sheer blind rage," Blue agreed.
"Yes...and even as Queen, I am still overshadowed by Dione's precious little flower," Hera complained. Blue smirked.
"If we can't kill her...then we can certainly manipulate her," she suggested. Hera's interest perked at that.
"What do you have in mind?" Hera asked.
"I will befriend the empty headed beauty and help her choose her champions," Blue replied. Hera smirked.
"Champions that we select...champions that ultimately could lead to our control of the chalice," she deduced. Blue nodded.
"Precisely," she said and Hera tilted her head.
"You already have a pair of mortals in mind, don't you?" she asked. Blue smirked.
"Yes...and they will serve us well. The man I have in mind will do anything for power. Faking true love with some woman will fool the little twit and when she gifts them her chalice...it's as good as ours," Blue replied.
"Then this is our plan. Proceed...and do not fail me, Blue," Hera said.
"Never, my Goddess. Zeus may think my loyalty is to him, but we know that you are my Queen," Blue said, as she became small in her fairy form with a Blue glow and descended back to earth.

"Wow…" Tink said, as Rose finished reading the beginning passages.
"So Blue has really been loyal to Hera all along and was working for her," Fandal said.
"That's heavy...but something tells me more happened later between them. I mean, this explains why Hera hates Aphrodite, but this implies that Blue was only doing Hera's bidding at first," Neal said.
"He's right...somewhere it became personal for Blue too," Rose said, as she closed the book.
"I'll read more when we get home and then we can discuss more tomorrow," she said. Tink smiled and used her magic on the book, duplicating it.
"Now we can both read...because I have to know more. Then I think we can finally bring her down," Tink said. Rose nodded and smiled at her.
"Guess we're doing more reading when we get home instead of other stuff," Neal muttered. The blonde smirked.
"Behave and you might get more than reading," she teased, as they joined hands and left the diner.
"I'll round up the children," Fandral said, as he kissed her cheek and went to get them from the table where they were playing a game.
"Mom...what if the Blue Fairy realizes you're reading her story and she tries to stop you?" Carina asked worriedly.
"I won't lie to you, sweetie...she very well may try. But your Papa will never let anything happen to me," Rose promised.
"Your mother is right," Fandral agreed, as he took her hand and pulled her to her feet.
"The Blue Fairy may have magic, but this Asgardian warrior will not let her silence more people," he promised, as they left the diner to head home for the evening.

"Dammit...you two were careless! And now we lost a fortune worth of jade and rare terracotta's!" Thalia roared.
"Relax...the quipu is what we really wanted, especially if it is the one my father sought. The key to Cibola or El Dorado. They have enough treasure to command power over the entire world," Johnny replied.
"Or it's just another ancient series of knots and strings full of riddles! Taunting the truest loves was a horrible misstep!" she cried.
"They already knew exactly who we were!" Johnny snapped.
"That woman...the Major has them chasing us like her own personal team of fairy tale agents," he added irritably.
"Pack up...we're leaving. Back to the Athens base," Thalia ordered.
"Oh no...we're not doing that. It's time for offensive measures," Johnny refuted.
"Johnny...that's not a good idea," Thalia argued.
"I'm in charge of this operation!" Johnny snapped.
"I am my father's heir!" he added.
"Besides...the cowardly doctor will talk. I have no illusions that Prince Charming and his brats will interrogate the truth right out of him," he said. Thalia sighed.
"Then you better work on getting that thing translated and hope that it's what we need," she said.
"Not until you tell me what you're hiding," Natalie interjected.
"Natalie…" she started to deflect, but her daughter cut her off.
"Were you and Xander...involved?" she asked.
"Of course they were," Johnny answered for her.
"Stay out of this, Junior," Thalia snapped.
"Mother…" Natalie pressed and she sighed.
"It only happened a couple of times," Thalia insisted, stunning her to silence. She was almost afraid to ask her next question, because somehow she knew the answer.
"Is…is Xander my father?" she asked. Thalia turned away in frustration.
"Mother...is he my father!?" she shouted and her silence spoke volumes.
"Wow...that I didn't know, but I guess it makes sense," he said.
"You knew they were together at one time?" Natalie asked in an accusatory tone, but he shrugged.
"We were never together…" Thalia refuted.
"I remember seeing them together here and there as a child. When my father wasn't pulling him out of the bottle...your mum was. Honestly, I never really put it together, but it makes sense," Johnny said, as he started to laugh then.
"Father must certainly be laughing now...you're a Charming!" he exclaimed to her.
"Well...half Charming," he teased.
"Shut up!" Natalie hissed.
"Mother…" she growled.
"It's true...Xander is your father," Thalia revealed.
"You said that my father died…" Natalie hissed.
"I lied...and it was for the best! Xander was gone most of the time, on missions for Clayton and when he was around, he was drinking and wallowing about the children he had already abandoned. He would have abandoned you too," Thalia said.
"That wasn't your choice!" Natalie hissed.
"Xander is a traitor...and our plan remains unchanged," Johnny said, as he loaded his gun with a clip.
"We cannot count on Malina's source to translate the quipu...but I've located a back up. Let's go…" he said, as Natalie glared at her mother and had a moment of pause.
"Natalie...are you coming?" he asked. She looked at him and then nodded.
"Yes," she replied. The revelation that Xander was her father and she had this huge family out there was jarring. But she didn't know them and they certainly wouldn't want someone like her. No...this didn't change anything.

After returning to the surface, they escorted the two mysterious captives back to the Boston FBI headquarters for interrogation. Agent Green and Agent Brooks insisted on taking the first crack at their interrogation. Some of the other agents began processing the recovered artifacts, while David observed the interrogation from the glass, along with the Major. It was late, so he insisted that everyone go back to the hotel to get some sleep, but he wasn't surprised when Snow came in and put her arms around him. She could see the questions in his mind and knew his father was probably waiting in the conference room for him. But he didn't want to think about any of it right now, because he knew he knew lashing out in anger wouldn't get them anywhere. He wanted answers, but knew he wouldn't like hearing any of them. So for now, he was focused on the two potential investors in the next room. Snow managed to get a bit of his frustration to ebb away, but it was growing since the two agents weren't getting anywhere.
"How much more time are we going to let these two waste?" he asked impatiently.
"The lab is running their prints. If we get a hit, then I'll let you go at them both. But I'd rather you go in there with something, because they're not giving an inch," the Major replied.
"It's going to be okay," Snow whispered to him, as she kissed him gently. He sighed and pressed his forehead against hers.
"You figured it out before me…" he said.
"The bitterness rolled off that woman in waves and when I saw that it was directed at your father...it wasn't much of a leap after that," she replied, as the Major came back into the room with a file and Xander followed her in.
"We got two hits…" Patricia said, as she put the file down on the table in front of them.
"Did we even need to?" David asked, as he looked at his father.
"Do you know them too?" he demanded to know.
"Yes...I know of them. I only met them a handful of times," Xander said. David gripped the metal table, his knuckles turning white and probably the only thing that kept him from raging at that moment was Snow's hand on his arm.
"The man is Dr. Hector La Guerra. He technically had his medical license revoked in 1945 and he fled his homeland of France for the United States," Patricia said.
"Funny...he doesn't look that old," David commented.
"None of these people are what they seem. He was born in 1918 and worked for the Nazis during World War II," she continued.
"Oh wonderful...a real life Nazi," Snow said.
"He lost his license for human experimentation and specializes in working with disease and poisons," Patricia continued.
"Clayton recruited him after the war and brought him to Atlantis. He introduced the doctor to all the magical plants, herbs and substances he had in his collection. It was Dr. La Guerra that created the youth potions. He was able to synthesize the water from the fountain of youth with his own mixture of magical herbs and created a way to utilize the water without tying the user to Atlantis," Xander explained.
"Boy, the good news just keeps coming," David deadpanned.
"We never saw him in Atlantis...but I spent a lot of time in the infirmary with Eva during that time. There were many rooms sealed off to us and I can still remember the screaming of people coming from some of those rooms," Snow recalled, as she got a haunted look on her face. Xander nodded.
"That would be him. There is other things I could tell you about what he does to people, but it's too horrific and I'm not going to do that," he added, as they looked at him.
"I'll tell you everything you need to know, but I will not tell you the specifics of what he does to people, even children, inside those rooms. You won't be able to handle it," Xander said firmly. Snow shuddered and David let that lay, as he turned his head back to the window.
"Enough about the sick bastard...what about her?" he asked.
"She is Malina Pizarro, born in Spain and if you know anything about the history of the Conquistadors, yes, she is of that Pizarro bloodline. The conqueror of the Incas was her ancestor and she has continued her quest to pillage and destroy indigenous cultures all over the globe," Patricia replied.
"Born in 1936 to her powerful and wealthy parents in Barcelona, she followed in her family's footsteps and led many expeditions that resulted in the destruction of ancient sites, their history, and complete pillaging of their cultures," Patricia added.
"How are evil pieces of crap like this not in prison already?" David hissed in frustration.
"You know why, David...that's the reason you and your family are here," Patricia reminded him. He turned back to the window in frustration and then stood up straight.
"They're not getting anywhere...I'm going in," he said, as he walked out of the room. He drew his sword and barged into the interrogation room.
"Excuse me...we're in the middle of an interrogation," Agent Green argued.
"And for normal perps, your methods might work...but not for this evil scum. Get out," he ordered. Agent Green huffed, but when Patricia entered the room and motioned them out, they reluctantly obeyed her order.
"Uh oh Malina...Prince Charming is here to intimidate us," the doctor goaded and she smirked back at him. David responded by kicking his chair out from beneath him. The man cried out, as he fell to the floor, but not before he hit his chin on the table on the way down, causing him excruciating pain. Blood leaked from his mouth from busted teeth and he glared up at the Prince.
"You ignorant brute…" the doctor hissed.
"You're going to tell me where Junior is off to or you're not going to live to see another day," David warned. The doctor chuckled.
"Right to the death threats…" he laughed.
"Believe it or not, your Highness, you don't scare me. I've done things that would make you double over and retch where you stand," he warned.
"So I've heard," David retorted.
"Oh no...you haven't heard the details, because you're still standing," as he turned his attention to the window. It was one way glass, but somehow he must have known she was there.
"I remember seeing your lovely, fair wife in Atlantis...your children too. None of you ever saw me, as Clayton forbade me contact with you, for he knew I wouldn't be able to help myself," he goaded.
"Specimens like them...now that would have been a glorious experiment. Magical blood...I begged him to let me at her, but alas, it didn't happen. I imagined her tortured screams though and watching her red blood slide down her white, delicate skin…" he said, as he licked his lips. David lost it at that moment and picked him up, before slamming him against the wall.
"Last chance to keep breathing. One more word about my wife or children and it's over for you," he warned.
"If you want information...then we want a deal," Malina said calmly.
"Not happening...the only deal you're getting is life in prison and not a needle in your arm. Your list of crimes is extensive," Patricia replied. She smirked.
"Then do your worst, Major Donovan. My family is powerful...I won't spend one day in your jail," she said confidently. But it was Patricia's turn to smirk.
"Oh, it won't be an American prison if you don't cooperate," she revealed.
"Your crimes in other countries have them clamoring to prosecute you. I just put out the word that I have you in custody, thanks to my newest and very special agent," she said, referring to David. She frowned.
"The American prison is at least humane. You'll get meals and a bed and even a few privileges. But the other countries prisons won't be so nice, but not even those are the ones you have to worry about, because if I turn you over to the people that your family has destroyed for centuries...your life is done and your death will not be swift," she threatened.
"You can't do that...your court system does not work that way," she countered.
"It does in this case...do you really want to test me or him?" Patricia said.
"Fine...those in the states that can still translate a quipu are all at Universities, which would be too risky now. So Junior is likely going to Peru. That's about the only place where you're going to anyone that can still read them and even then that's going to be difficult. It's a dead language, as are the Inca people. But I know of one family near Cusco...and so does he. That's where he'll go," Malina revealed.
"And this family? Will they tell him willingly?" David asked. She smirked.
"Definitely not...his father helped the Conquistadors destroy their ancestors, as well as countless other cultures. But like his father...Johnny will get what he wants, one way or another," she replied smugly.
"It's too bad...I'd love to participate in the coming torture," the doctor said.
"Reminding me that you're still breathing isn't wise," David snapped at him, as he walked out.
"We're leaving aboard the Jolly Roger in the morning and those two are going to lead us to them," he said to Patricia. She nodded.
"I'll have them put down in a holding cell until then. Agent Green and Agent Brooks, you and your team will be responsible for transporting these two to the Harbor and joining us. We're going to Peru, O six hundred," she ordered, as she saw David pull Snow into his arms and kiss her. Some of his stress melted away at her kiss and her touch, at least in those quiet seconds.
"David…" Xander interrupted.
"You tucked Clayton's son in at night while your granddaughter was alone in a group home!" he roared.
"It wasn't like that," Xander insisted.
"He was a neglected child that grew into the shadow his father left behind," he added.
"You worked with these people!" David shouted.
"You ate with them! Talked to them! Hell...you even slept with some of them!" he ranted.
"And I hated all of them! And mostly myself most of the time, but Clayton was very convincing! You have to believe me! I wanted nothing more than to get Emma from that group home and bring her to you! But he told me it would be a disaster!" Xander insisted.
"He lied," David growled.
"Yes...and I realized it far too late. I helped him destroy people, because he promised me that in the end, it would lead me back to you and my family," Xander replied. David snorted.
"Well...he was right. Too bad it took you almost thirty years to get to us when you knew exactly where we were," he said, as he took Snow's hand and started to walk away.
"David please...you have to forgive me," Xander pleaded. He stopped and turned to him partially.
"No…I don't and I'm not sure I can," he said.
"David…" he begged, with tears in his eyes.
"How many times?" David asked.
"What?" Xander asked.
"How many times did you stand over my comatose body in that hospital!?" he roared. Xander swallowed thickly.
"Too many," he answered and David shook his head.
"You could have brought Emma to me...hell, you could have brought Snow to me too and you didn't! You were too busy working for that psychopath and sleeping with his operatives," David hissed, as he turned away again and Snow cast a glance behind her, as they walked away from him. She was torn, for the last thing she wanted was for her husband's relationship with his father to implode. But her loyalty was to David first and he had every right to be angry.

Flashback
The village burned with roaring fire, making it certain that it would be wiped off the map when the flames died. A tall man of Greek descent emerged from the fire and approached his team.
"Did you get it?" he asked, as one of his excavators unwrapped the cloth and presented the jeweled necklace to him. He examined it, but his hope faded and he tossed it back at the worker.
"This is fake!" he cried.
"I'm...I'm sorry sir...the chief finally revealed its location after hours of interrogation. This is said to be the necklace of Harmonia," he replied.
"It's a fake replica! Costume jewelry!" he ranted, as he tossed it into the fire.
"I need that necklace! It can give me eternal youth and find the treasure I seek," he growled.
"The necklace of Harmonia is with Zeus...you'll never obtain it," a voice said, as there was a blue flash and a woman appeared before him.
"A fairy…" he said with intrigue.
"Yes...and you are the man known as the Collector," she replied.
"Sirius Clayton…" he introduced himself.
"Now, if you'll excuse me, I must continue my quest for another source of eternal youth if I am to make sure I live long enough to find Atlantis," he said.
"I can help you do that...and more. I can make your entire bloodline for centuries to come...legendary," she offered. He stopped and turned back to her.
"I am not a good man and you are a fairy. Why would you do that?" he questioned.
"Because I want power...just like you and I need a mortal to get that power," she revealed.
"But don't worry...you'll have the ultimate power too," she said.
"Tell me more…" he inquired.
"There is a chalice, created by Gaia herself and gifted to her favorite daughter, Dione. In turn, Dione has gifted to her precious one, Aphrodite," Blue explained.
"Goddess of love, beauty, and desire," he recalled.
"That's the one...the apple of Zeus' eye and instead of giving the chalice to his new wife, Hera, he has given it to his naive, virginal daughter that still thinks that true love is real," Blue said.
"Fascinating...and where do I come in?" he asked.
"Before Dione died, she intended to gift the chalice to a true love pair that she deemed worthy of it to champions of love and heroes to mortals. But she never discovered a pair that she deemed worthy enough," Blue explained.
"Her daughter is determined to keep those standards, but she is wildly more naive than her wise mother," she continued. He smirked.
"You want me to find some woman and convince your naive Goddess that we are the pair she should gift her chalice too," he deduced.
"You are sharp...but it can't be just any woman. It has to be someone convincing and able to pull off the act," she replied. He smirked.
"I think I know of someone," he said.
"But what kind of power are we talking about?" he questioned.
"Unlimited power and eternal youth," she promised. He smirked.
"Where do we start?" he asked.

Xander sat at the hotel bar and hadn't even bothered to go to his room that night. It was almost two in the morning and they would be kicking him out soon. A glass of scotch sat before him and his stare burrowed into the amber glass of liquid, as a blonde climbed onto the seat next to him.
"Please tell me you haven't touched that, Gramps," Emma said.
"Don't worry...I'm just looking at the thing that kept me from my family for so long," Xander replied.
"You know, I don't blame you, right?" Emma asked. He snorted.
"Your father does...maybe you should. I could have spared you years of unhappiness, Emma. When the Swans sent you back...I should have told Clayton to go to hell and took you straight to your father," he replied.
"You know Clayton would have stopped you or tried to. He might have killed you," Emma surmised.
"And you know Dad...he'll come around. He's almost as forgiving as Mom," she reminded him.
"I don't know, Em...I've never seen him this angry," Xander replied.
"Mom will bring him around...she always does. Just give him time," Emma assured him.
"I hope you're right…" Xander replied.
"Go up to your room and get a little sleep. We're leaving early," she suggested.
"I'm not sure David wants me there," Xander said.
"Yes he does...and you know Clayton's operation better than anyone. Not to mention that you now have a daughter out there that's on the wrong side. You can either stay here and wallow in self pity," Emma said, as he looked at her.
"Or you can fight for your relationship with my Dad and maybe even one with your daughter," she said.
"Her mother has poisoned her against us," Xander replied.
"And we thought George and later Clayton did the same thing to James and now I call him Uncle James," Emma reminded him, as she pushed the glass toward the bartender.
"He won't be needing this," she said, as she threw some money down for it. Xander sighed and followed her to the elevator.
"We always tell you how much like your father you are, but you are every bit your mother's daughter too," he mentioned fondly. Emma smiled.
"I know...I've seen the hope thing work for her time and again, so I took a page from her book on this one. Dad will come around," she assured, as they got in the elevator.

Snow awoke in the middle of the night, noticing that the warmth of David's body was gone. She got up and padded out to the outside balcony of their hotel suite in her long, white silk nightgown. She found him there, staring off into space and slipped her arms around his waist, before resting her head against his naked back.
"Oh baby…" she murmured, as her heart ached for him.
"I just got used to having a brother...and now a sister…" he muttered.
"A sister that was raised in Clayton's world," he said.
"Not all the people in his network are killers," she offered, as he took her in his arms and kissed her hair.
"I hope...I mean, the stealing I can get passed," he said, looking at her fondly and she smiled back.
"You do have a thing for bandits," she teased.
"Except you were stealing to survive. She steals...for treasure," he said bitterly.
"Then it's your father that's mostly bothering you," she surmised.
"I knew he had killed people...I mean, I've killed people too. We're not so different...at least that's what I told myself," he said.
"But if I knew my grandchild was out there, somewhere alone, being abused...I would have moved heaven and earth to get to them!" he said fiercely.
"I know...I know, my love…" she soothed.
"What if Merlin hadn't nurtured her belief by giving her the book? It would have been ten times worse for her, Snow," he fretted.
"At least the book showed her how much we truly loved her and how we didn't choose to be separated from her. It gave her hope…" he continued.
"But my father could have walked into that adoption agency, submitted to a DNA test, and proved he was Emma's blood. But instead, he was sailing around other realms that weren't frozen by the curse, collection things for Clayton! Treasure and gold and inanimate objects over our daughter!" he stressed.
"Over you...you can say it, my love. He chose those things over you and it was wrong," she said.
"You are a much stronger, braver man than he is. You are your mother's son," she said fondly. He sighed.
"The killing...I can get past as surprising as that sounds. I got past it with James. He was raised by a tyrant. It would have been a miracle if he didn't become a killer," he said.
"But what else has he lied about? There could be so many things we don't know about him. I knew that...and I ignored it. I can't do that anymore. I need to know everything," he added.
"And you will," she assured him, as she led him back inside.
"Until then...we should go back to bed," she said, as he sighed.
"You know I can't sleep now…" he replied. She smirked and gently let the thin straps on her nightgown fall away and it became a puddle at her feet.
"Then let's do some...not sleeping," she replied. His eyes glazed, as he drank her in. His beautiful wife was a master at distracting him and though he knew they would have to deal with all of this in just a few short hours, he welcomed this distraction. He walked to her with purpose and kissed her passionately, while cupping her face in his hands. She mewled into his kiss and then yelped in excitement, as he lifted her up and she hooked her legs around his waist. He carried her to bed and for those few hours, they became lost in each other...

Giancarlo Giuseppe Alessandro Esposito (Italian pronunciation: [dʒaŋˈkarlo dʒuˈzɛppe alesˈsandro eˈspɔːzito]; born April 26, 1958) is an Italian-American actor and director. He has played Gus Fring on the AMC show Breaking Bad and also plays the character on Better Call Saul, a role for which he won the Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series Award at the 2012 Critics' Choice Television Awards and was nominated for an Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series at the 2012 Primetime Emmy Awards and again at the 2019 Primetime Emmy Awards. He appeared as Moff Gideon in the live-action Star Wars series The Mandalorian on Disney+ which premiered in 2019.
He has appeared in Spike Lee films such as Do the Right Thing, School Daze, and Mo' Better Blues. His feature film appearances include Fresh, Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man, The Usual Suspects, and King of New York. He has played Tom Neville in the NBC series Revolution and Sidney Glass / Magic Mirror on ABC's Once Upon a Time. He has had roles in two Netflix original series: The Get Down, wherein he portrays Pastor Ramon Cruz, and Dear White People, which he narrates. He also voiced and portrayed "The Dentist" in the video game Payday 2.
Early life
Giancarlo Giuseppe Alessandro Esposito was born in Copenhagen, the son of Giovanni Esposito aka John C. Esposito (1931–2002), an Italian stagehand and carpenter from Naples, and Elizabeth Foster aka Leesa Foster (1926–2017), an African-American opera and nightclub singer from Alabama.
When Esposito was six, his family moved from Copenhagen, Denmark to Manhattan, New York. He attended Elizabeth Seton College in New York and earned a two-year degree in radio and television communications.
Career
Esposito made his Broadway debut at age eight, playing a slave child opposite Shirley Jones in the short-lived musical Maggie Flynn (1968), set during the New York Draft Riots of 1863. He was also a member of the youthful cast of the Stephen Sondheim-Harold Prince collaboration Merrily We Roll Along, which closed with 16 performances and 56 previews in 1981.
During the 1980s, Esposito appeared in films such as Taps, Maximum Overdrive, King of New York, and Trading Places. He also performed in TV shows such as Miami Vice and Spenser: For Hire. He played J. C. Pierce, a cadet in the 1981 movie Taps.
In 1988 he landed his breakout role as the leader ("Dean Big Brother Almighty") of the black fraternity "Gamma Phi Gamma" in director Spike Lee's film School Daze, exploring color relations at black colleges. Over the next four years, Esposito and Lee collaborated on three other movies: Do the Right Thing, Mo' Better Blues, and Malcolm X.During the 1990s Esposito appeared in the acclaimed indie films Night on Earth, Fresh and Smoke, as well as its sequel Blue in the Face. He also appeared in the mainstream film Reckless with Mia Farrow, and Waiting to Exhale starring Whitney Houston and Angela Bassett. In 1995 Esposito was featured in a music video "California" by French superstar Mylene Farmer, directed by Abel Ferrara.
Esposito played FBI agent Mike Giardello on the TV crime drama Homicide: Life on the Street. That role drew from both his African American and Italian ancestry. He played this character during the show's seventh and final season. Mike's estranged father, shift lieutenant Al Giardello, is portrayed as subject to racism, something Esposito's character practiced in School Daze. Another multiracial role was as Sergeant Paul Gigante in the television comedy, Bakersfield P.D..
In 1997 Esposito played the film roles of Darryl in Trouble on the Corner and Charlie Dunt in Nothing to Lose. Other TV credits include NYPD Blue, Law & Order, The Practice, New York Undercover, and Fallen Angels: Fearless.
Esposito has portrayed drug dealers (Fresh, Breaking Bad, King of New York, Better Call Saul), policemen (The Usual Suspects, Derailed), political radicals (Bob Roberts, Do the Right Thing), and a demonic version of the Greek God of Sleep Hypnos from another dimension (Monkeybone). In 2001, he played Cassius Marcellus Clay, Sr. in Ali, and Miguel Algarín, friend and collaborator of Nuyorican poet Miguel Piñero, in Piñero.
In 2006 Esposito starred in Last Holiday as Senator Dillings, alongside Queen Latifah and Timothy Hutton. Also in 2006, he played an unsympathetic detective named Esposito in the 2005 film Hate Crime. The film explores homophobia.
Esposito played Robert Fuentes, a Miami businessman with shady connections, on the UPN television series South Beach. He has appeared in New Amsterdam and CSI: Miami. In Feel the Noise (2007), he played ex-musician Roberto, the Puerto Rican father of Omarion Grandberry's character, aspiring rap star "Rob".
He made his directorial debut with Gospel Hill (2008); he also produced the film and starred in it.
New York theater credits for Esposito include The Me Nobody Knows, Lost in the Stars, Seesaw, and Merrily We Roll Along. In 2008 he appeared on Broadway as Gooper in an African American production of Tennessee Williams' Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, directed by Debbie Allen and starring James Earl Jones, Phylicia Rashad, Anika Noni Rose, and Terrence Howard.
From 2009 to 2011, Esposito appeared in seasons 2 through 4 of the AMC drama Breaking Bad, as Gus Fring, the head of a New Mexico-based methamphetamine drug ring. In the fourth season, he was the show's primary antagonist. He received critical acclaim for this role. He won the Best Supporting Actor in a Drama award at the 2012 Critics' Choice Television Awards and was nominated for an Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series award at the 2012 Primetime Emmy Awards, but lost to co-star Aaron Paul.
He appeared in the film Rabbit Hole (2010).
Esposito appeared in the first season of the ABC program Once Upon a Time, which debuted in October 2011. He portrayed the split role of Sidney, a reporter for The Daily Mirror in the town of Storybrooke, Maine, who is the Magic Mirror, possessed by The Evil Queen in a parallel fairy tale world.
Esposito appeared in Revolution as Major Tom Neville, a central character who kills Ben Matheson in the pilot. He escorts a captured Danny to the capital Philadelphia of the Monroe Republic.
Esposito also appeared in Community as a guest star for the episode entitled "Digital Estate Planning". He performed again in the fourth season, in the episode titled "Paranormal Parentage". Esposito has additionally appeared in a video of the action role-playing sci-fi first-person shooter game Destiny, as well as plays The Dentist, a non-playable story character, in the game Payday 2.
He has joined the DC Universe Animated Original Movies series. He played Ra's al Ghul in Son of Batman and Black Spider in Batman: Assault on Arkham. He had a recurring role in the first season of The Get Down on Netflix. In 2017, Esposito reprised his role as Gus Fring in the Breaking Bad prequel series, Better Call Saul.
In 2016, Esposito voiced Akela in the film The Jungle Book, which was directed by Jon Favreau. Esposito and Favreau would work together once again in the web series The Mandalorian in which Esposito appears in a starring role, while Favreau acts as an executive producer for the series and as its writer.He plays the role of NY congressman Adam Clayton Powell Jr. in the 2019 Epix series Godfather of Harlem.
Personal life
Esposito married Joy McManigal in 1995; they later divorced. He has four daughters.

Historical truth about Democrats and Black Lives
Some history on lynchings in the USA
From 1882 to 1968, "...nearly 200 anti-lynching bills were introduced in Congress, and three passed the House. Seven presidents between 1890 and 1952 petitioned Congress to pass a federal law."[32] The Southern Democratic block in the Senate prevented the passage of any anti-lynching bill during this period. In 2005, by a resolution sponsored by senators Mary Landrieu of Louisiana and George Allen of Virginia, and passed by voice vote, the Senate made a formal apology for its failure to pass an anti-lynching law "when it was most needed".[32]
From the mid-1870s onward, violence rose as insurgent paramilitary groups in the Deep South worked to suppress black voting and turn Republicans out of office. In Louisiana, the Carolinas, and Florida especially, the Democratic Party relied on paramilitary "White Line" groups, such as the White Camelia, White League and Red Shirts to terrorize, intimidate and assassinate African-American and white Republicans in an organized drive to regain power. In Mississippi and the Carolinas, paramilitary chapters of Red Shirts conducted overt violence and disruption of elections. In Louisiana, the White League had numerous chapters; they carried out goals of the Democratic Party to suppress black voting. Grant's desire to keep Ohio in the Republican aisle and his attorney general's maneuvers led to a failure to support the Mississippi governor with Federal troops.[51] The campaign of terror worked. In Yazoo County, Mississippi, for instance, with an African-American population of 12,000, only seven votes were cast for Republicans in 1874. In 1875, Democrats swept into power in the Mississippi state legislature.[51]
Once Democrats regained power in Mississippi, Democrats in other states adopted the Mississippi Plan to control the election of 1876, using informal armed militias to assassinate political leaders, hunt down community members, intimidate and turn away voters, and effectively suppress African-American suffrage and civil rights. In state after state, Democrats swept back to power.[52] From 1868 to 1876, there were 50–100 lynchings annually.
Conclusions of numerous studies since the mid-20th century have found the following variables affecting the rate of lynchings in the South: "lynchings were more numerous where the African American population was relatively large, the agricultural economy was based predominantly on cotton, the white population was economically stressed, the Democratic Party was stronger, and multiple religious organizations competed for congregants."[57]
From 1896 until 1900, the House of Representatives with a Republican majority had acted in more than thirty cases to set aside election results from Southern states where the House Elections Committee had concluded that "black voters had been excluded due to fraud, violence, or intimidation". However, in the early 1900s, it began to back off, after Democrats won a majority, which included Southern delegations that were solidly in Democratic hands.
The NAACP mounted a strong nationwide campaign of protests and public education against The Birth of a Nation. As a result, some city governments prohibited the release of the film. In addition, the NAACP publicized production and helped create audiences for the 1919 releases, The Birth of a Race and Within Our Gates, African-American-directed films that presented more positive images of blacks.
On April 1, 1918, U.S. Representative Leonidas C. Dyer of St. Louis, Missouri, introduced the Dyer Anti-Lynching Bill in the U.S. House of Representatives. Rep. Dyer was concerned over increased lynching, mob violence, and disregard for the "rule of law" in the South. The bill made lynching a federal crime, and those who participated in lynching would be prosecuted by the federal government. It did not pass due to a Southern filibuster, and the Senate would not pass anti-lynching legislation until 2018 (the Justice for Victims of Lynching Act).
On 1919, the new NAACP organized the National Conference on Lynching to increase support for the Dyer Bill.
In 1920, the black community succeeded in getting its most important priority in the Republican Party's platform at the National Convention: support for an anti-lynching bill. The black community supported Warren G. Harding in that election, but were disappointed as his administration moved slowly on a bill.[95]
Dyer revised his bill and re-introduced it to the House in 1921. It passed the House on January 22, 1922, due to "insistent country-wide demand",[95] and was favorably reported out by the Senate Judiciary Committee. Action in the Senate was delayed, and ultimately the Democratic Solid South filibuster defeated the bill in the Senate in December.[96] In 1923, Dyer went on a midwestern and western state tour promoting the anti-lynching bill; he praised the NAACP's work for continuing to publicize lynching in the South and for supporting the federal bill. Dyer's anti-lynching motto was "We have just begun to fight," and he helped generate additional national support. His bill was defeated twice more in the Senate by Southern Democratic filibuster. The Republicans were unable to pass a bill in the 1920s.[97]
Southern Senators continued to hold a hammerlock on Congress. Because of the Southern Democrats' disfranchisement of African Americans in Southern states at the start of the 20th century, Southern whites for decades had nearly double the representation in Congress beyond their own population. Southern states had Congressional representation based on total population, but essentially only whites could vote and only their issues were supported. Due to seniority achieved through one-party Democratic rule in their region, Southern Democrats controlled many important committees in both houses. Southern Democrats consistently opposed any legislation related to putting lynching under Federal oversight. As a result, Southern white Democrats were a formidable power in Congress until the 1960s.
In 1947, the Truman administration published a report entitled To Secure These Rights which advocated making lynching a federal crime, abolishing poll taxes, and other civil rights reforms. The Southern Democratic bloc of senators and congressmen continued to obstruct attempts at federal legislation.[107]
Under the Franklin D. Roosevelt administration, the Civil Rights Section of the Justice Department tried, but failed, to prosecute lynchers under Reconstruction-era civil rights laws. The first successful federal prosecution of a lyncher for a civil rights violation was in 1946. By that time, the era of lynchings as a common occurrence had ended. Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. succeeded in gaining House passage of an anti-lynching bill, but it was defeated in the Senate, still dominated by the Southern Democratic bloc, supported by its disfranchisement of blacks.

Music Landmarks Tour: Rock Clubs
Aragon Ballroom
The Aragon Ballroom is a long time live music venue located in Chicago’s Uptown area. The ballroom opened in 1926 with a Spanish Village motif adorning its walls everywhere. The name Aragon comes from that region in Spain of the Moorish style. From its inception, the Aragon was quite popular and its promotion of big band music. WGN would often host an hour long show straight from this venue. There exists an urban legend that a tunnel exists from the Green Mill to the basement of the Aragon built by Al Capone during Prohibition days. From the late 1950’s until the mid-1980’s, the Aragon Ballroom served as a number of things including a roller skating rink, a disco, a couple of times as a band ballroom, and a boxing venue. In the 1970’s, the Aragon would host hard rock concerts lasting more than six hours, which were called Monsters of Rock. This gave the venue the nickname as the Aragon Brawl Room for many years. In 1973, the venue partnered with Jam Productions to promote rock shows, which is a partnership that’s still continues to this day. In 2015, the Aragon was used as a film location in Zack Snyder’s Batman Vs. Superman film. This served as the fictional theater, where Bruce Wayne’s parents were later shot outside. More recently, Live Nation has taken over management of the venue, which has led to many more electronic music acts being scheduled there. Many of the indie groups that used to play there have been moved to the Riviera Theatre across the street.
The Crocodile
The Crocodile, formerly the Crocodile Cafe, is a club founded in Seattle, Washington in the Belltown neighborhood. The club was first opened in 1991 by Stephanie Dorgan. Almost immediately, the venue became a very popular spot for local music as grunge exploded in Seattle at the time. The first show there was headlined by the Posies, while every major in the band in the 1990’s and early 2000’s has played there at one point. Dorgan would later marry REM guitarist, Peter Buck, who would become a part owner in the club. They divorced in 2006, while the club unexpectedly closed a year later. This event caused a great deal of concern within the Seattle music community because many did not want to see the venue close. A group of investors re-opened the club including members of Alice in Chains, Portugal. The Man, and others. The Crocodile, as it was now called, re-opened officially in 2009. The Crocodile has been named by such publications as Rolling Stone and Guardian as one of the top 10 live music venues in the country.
The Whiskey A Go Go
This is the famed night club located on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood. The club has launched iconic bands like Buffalo Springfield, the Doors, Mötley Crüe, Guns N’ Roses, Alice Cooper, and more. The Whiskey owes its name to the first discotheque, which opened in Paris in 1947. This Whiskey was not the first one to be named after the Paris one. The first one was established in Chicago in 1958. Although originally billed as a discotheque, from its first night this club always had a live band. One of the things that set it apart was the fact that the Whiskey clearly popularized go-go dancing. You could always see those dancers in cages at every show in the 1960’s. Numerous stories spring up within rock ‘n’ roll history that happened at this venue. The Doors were fired here after performing the Oedipal portion in the song, “The End.” Metallica first saw Cliff Burton play a show here while he was in the band Trauma. Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention received a recording contract based on a performance at this club. In 1977, the Ramones played their first gig at the Whiskey. As the music changed, so did the bands headlining this club. For example, bands like Soundgarden, Mudhoney, and Oasis all eventually played here as music moved from hair metal to grunge and Britpop. In 2006, the venue was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a historic landmark.
40 Watt Club
This was a club located in Athens, Georgia that became very important with the onset of punk and new wave. Athens became the center of college radio. Bands that first started here included Pylon, R.E.M., Love Tractor, Dreams So Real, Guadalcanal Diary, The Primates, Modern Skirts, and others. The club started as a very limited loft owned by Curtis Crowe in 1978. He would open the actual club the following year after discovering such a thing to be financially possible. The reason for the name came from the running joke that there was only one 40 watt lightbulb hanging from the ceiling. The venue would always be on a shoestring budget. In May 1980, the club once again moved a few doors down to another space above a sandwich shop. The interesting thing about this location was the fact that the beams had to be reinforced due to the fact that there was so much dancing going on. In May 1982, the venue moved once again to another space, which now included an actual stage and running hot water. In 1984, the venue moved for a fourth time along with new ownership again. This building became what people knew the club to be in the 1980’s when popular underground acts would play there as they toured the south. In 1987, now having Peter Buck’s wife as an owner, the club moved back to the smaller space, which was located on Clayton Street. Please note that the wife of Peter Buck at that time was not Stephanie Dorgan, who owned the Crocodile Club. In 1991, the club moved to its fifth and current location in a former thrift store.
100 Club
This music venue opened in 1942 in London as the Feldman Swing Club. Music would occur on Sundays only at first as the rest of the week it was a restaurant called Mack’s. That first night included a lineup of Frank Weir, Tommy Pollard, Jimmy Skidmore, Kenny Baker. They were supported by the Feldman Trio. This was a group comprised of owner Robert Feldman’s kids. The drummer, Victor Feldman was eight years old. The club became known for hosting leaders in jazz at the time including American, Glenn Miller. The people that came here were mostly GIs stationed in England, who happened to introduce the jitterbug to the club. The dance was banned everywhere else. The club changed its name to the 100 club in 1964. In the 1970s, the venue became a place to go for punk rock. The International Punk Festival took place there in 1976, which was headlined by the Buzzcocks, the Sex Pistols, the Jam, the Damned, and the Clash. Beginning in 1981, the 100 Club started to get hardcore bands highlighted by such acts as Black Flag. The venue would still host jazz on Sundays to this day going alongside the rock that is scheduled there. The club has also maintained the same family ownership since 1964.
