CHAPTER II

He pulls up to 4200 Alpine Valley Way. It’s a small cottage in the middle of nowhere, just like he was told. He was also told that there’s three rules for talking to Mac. First rule is that you need to take off your shoes before you enter. Second rule is that you need to be ready to throw everything away. So that means the little piss wagon of the vehicle he’s been driving is out. Third rule is that you have to sit and have a meal with Mac. He’s weird like that.

As he approaches the door, and takes off his shoes.

“See man, took the shoes off!”

Nothing.

“Listen man, I’ve come all the way here, and taken my shoes off for you. Please don’t make me turn back!”

Nothing.

He picks up his shoes and throws them against the door. A loud thud resonates as the door then opens slowly.

“About time!”

A man in his late 80’s opens the door, and stares down the young man.

“Jesse Pinkman I presume?”

“Yeah, that’s me.”

“Come in”

Jesse walks in and is stopped once he’s inside by the old man.

“Clothes, off now”

“So like, full naked?”

“Underwear can stay on, I’m not into that kind of thing”

As Jesse looks around, he sees a lot of what you would see in an old mans home. A lot of orange and green. This guy lived in the 70’s and never looked back. There was also a lot of newspaper clippings of D.B. Cooper. All over.

“Big fan of good old D.B. eh?”

“I find it interesting”

“How so?”

“A man disappears with enough money to last a lifetime and this country and its vast resources have yet to find him”

“That’s crazy right. I mean do you think he’s still alive?”

“I’d guarantee it”

There was a nice roast beef dinner sitting on the table, with a bottle of beer and a piece of pie waiting on the inside of the table. The old man pulled out a chair and showed Jesse to sit in the chair.

“This looks great,” Jesse said, “this is way better then eating fast food”

“Need to eat healthy, especially when you are changing lives, it always helps”

“So what happens, I mean, how do I cross the border?”

“It’s simple. You’ll get a passport, as well as an entirely new identity. You’ll need a new vehicle, I have that covered through a third party. You’ll drive that small tin can you have there for an hour north until you reach a scrap yard. This scrap yard is where you’ll trade vehicles and complete the process. It’s then smooth sailing from here to Alaska”

“Great, that’s good to hear”

“Goodman is a good associate of mine, and I’d certainly hate to charge you for this…”

“It’s fine, how much do you want?”

“Well, normally $20,000 but I’ll ask you for $5,000”

“That works”

“So out of curiosity, after the shit storm with the APD and DEA, how did you manage to walk away?”

“I didn’t walk away OK!”

“Calm down son, it’s a simple question. Rumors swirled, reaching even me, and I never hear of these things. I mean, Heisenberg and a whole gang is dead and you walk away”

“I lost so much man, it wasn’t fair what that bastard did to my life! Selling me out to those neo-nazi assholes. I watched people I love die around me while I was their slave. No man, I didn’t walk away, I got lucky”

The older man notices that Jesse is shaking, and shows regret for asking such questions.

“Listen son, we’ll change the topic. Please, just eat the meal”
