Nice day to remind you all that abandoning two clearly alive girls under the rubble and persuading another person to do so because of so called «non-attachment rule» is not cute, fine, a «good example of master-padawan relationship» or, at any point, normal. It's killing, indirect, but killing nonetheless.
IRL, the man or woman who has an a ability to save another person, who is clearly alive and mostly well, from danger, but refuses to do so, is considered nobody else but criminal. But when it comes to fictional woman, that suddenly becomes unrelevant. It somehow gives her the right to read a sermons to another grown-up man, who was never her student and who lost practically a ten of his peers(Bhat Jul, Padawan Pack, Tono) and comrades during the war. Who, unlike her, does not abandon the living for the sake of written rules.
And when the student of this woman decides to become a terrorist and bomb the Jedi Temple, hold in mind, that the thing that may have contributed to it was a knowledge that her master was ready to abandon her to death and walk away with it.

The people who go on about how Anidala is supposedly greedy and selfish don’t seem to grasp that maybe a massive religious group that has the backing of the government who expects you to dedicate your life to only that religious organization and that government while not really letting you have a life outside of that is actually even more greedy and selfish? I have more of a problem with the religious group who believes that they have exclusive rights to babies with special abilities over a couple who just wanted to be together because they are in love.

Jedi Uncrits: "Anakin didn't want to make any sacrifices, he didn't want to have to choose between the order and Padme, he was greedy and he wanted to have his cake and eat it too, they would have never worked out. Hell, he didn't even WANT to talk about the baby, he was just obsessed of having the perfect fantasy politician wife."
ROTS Novelization: Shows Anakin was legitimately going to want make the sacrifice of leaving the Jedi Order when the war ends
ROTS Deleted scene: Shows Anidala talking about whether their baby will be a boy or a girl(not knowing it's both)
Jedi Uncrits: ...ok....but that's not exactly canon. Sure, deleted scenes were canon in Legends but not so much in Disney canon. And plus, Lucas never cared too much for legends anyways so whatever legends stuff you bring up "don't count".
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is despite the fact that Matthew Stover LITERALLY talked with George Lucas intensively when it came to this novel, so he had significant imput over the novels. Ditto for RA Salvatore with the AOTC novelization(which also included A LOT of deleted scenes and character monologues that completely dispell the notion that "Anakin and Padme never really knew each other".
If Lucas really wanted Anidala to be inherently toxic and demonstrative of total selfishness, he was in a perfect position to tell Matthew Stover or RA Salvatore "no" when it came to these deleted scenes or the extremely tragic romantic way Anidala was framed in the ROTS novelization--hell he told Filoni "no" several times when they were making the Clone Wars. If what we are supposed to take away from Anakin's character arc is that he wanted his cake and eat it with regards to having a Jedi and a family, Lucas was in a position where he could have told Stover "don't include these scenes, they're going to make people miss the point entirely and sympathize with a relationship they aren't supposed to sympathize with".
But he didn't.
So it's clear that some of these deleted scenes were meant to be part of the story in Lucas' head or part of GL's own headcanon.
Now ask yourself this: Would George Lucas view Anakin's fatal flaw as simply not making any hard sacrifices between love and the Jedi if literally the ROTS novelization entertains the idea of him wanting to give up his position for Padme?
We also have to understand the concept of "greed", "selfishness", and "possessiveness" as stated by Lucas in Anakin's situation/fatal flaw is a failure to accept death and let people go, a belief that he is entitled to play god and conquer death(which is at the very least rooted in trauma and no one properly teaching him to accept loss, which fucked up his psyche), NOT wanting everything he can't have and damn the consequences. Jedi uncriticals understand the first part of this(even through they downplay the trauma every time to make him look as evil as possible)....but then they abuse the term of "greed" to depict Anakin as wanting literally everything and not wanting to make a choice between love and family.

i've seen a post the other day that was a some kind of analysis of a scene from tcw blue shadow virus arc where it was stated that anakin forgot about his padawan in favour of padme after they were both rescued from that lab with the blue shadow virus.
however i've recently rewatched the said arc and i cannot exactly agree that anakin forgot about anyone? when the virus is set loose, the lab is sealed and obi-wan and anakin go back to theed, they're immediately told there's an antidote on a planet iego and anakin wants to go there the very next second because, and i almost quote, his padawan and padme are trapped in the lab. he doesn't forget about either of them through the episode. when he and obi-wan talk about them, they talk about them both.
now, he does kind of disregard the clones' lives but no more than any other character so far? besides general krell or whatever was that guy's name from the incident on umbara. the clones are generally treated horribly, just as separatists droids are, anakin isn't even the worst here.
also, back to padme, before they're all rescued padme and ahsoka call obi-wan and anakin, saying that they destroyed all the droids and the planet is safe. then padme tells anakin to never unseal the lab and says her goodbyes to him, clearly thinking she's going to die soon. so i really cannot begrudge at a man, who thought his wife was going to die so very very soon, for running straight to her to check on her. and i don't quite see her praise about ahsoka as a reminder to him about his padawan since he has never forgotten about her in the first place. and he made sure to praise her, it's not like he could do more after the rescue than he'd already done for all the victims of the virus.
and there was also a point about how padme was less sick than ahsoka. yeah, padme was exposed to the virus later than ahsoka but if you closely, ahsoka is a little bit more resistant to the virus than humans. like, when she and padme call anakin and obi-wan, padme looks almost as bad as ahsoka even though she fell ill later than her. besides, viruses tend influence different people differently, and i believe that is also the case here, since there's at least one clone who presumably died only after a few hours of getting ill. this all, of course, doesn't excuse anyone treating ahsoka's condition lighter than padme's. and nobody does treat it lightly? and certainly not anakin.
(the virus is kind of weird by the way. if it kills so quickly how can it be carried from a person to person? shouldn't it be a little slower or something...)
so these are my thoughts. you don't have to agree with me, that's fine, i don't exactly need to know about that. this is just what i've seen myself and how i interpreted it.

I’ve never really gotten the arguement from Jedi uncriticals that Anakin deliberately wanted “two marriages” at once, consequences be damned.
If that arguement has any basis, it’s much more of a tragedy for Anakin than it is for the Jedi, less “Anakin wanting to both be a Jedi and have a family, consequences be damned” and more “Anakin knows what marriage he wants, but he feels “compelled” to stay in the other marriage because he dosen’t want to abandon Obi-Wan/Ahsoka to the war and isn’t equipped with the knowledge/mindset to take a third option”.
'I had a mother who loved me'
(aka, the Jedi Order is NOT Anakin's family)
This is a topic that I've seen discussed elsewhere and I felt compelled to add my own thoughts. I've seen some takes I vehemently disagree with, especially regarding Shmi and Little Ani in TPM, and Anakin's 'decision' to leave with Qui-Gon. It's crazy how some people will blame little Ani for 'wanting' to be a Jedi, yet apparently Luke in ANH is allowed to want this, even though Luke likewise barely knows anything about what being a Jedi entails, and even though it's much more risky (and, frankly, far more unrealistic) to dream of becoming a Jedi in the Dark Times era?? As if a nine-year-old slave-boy wanting to take part in his new-found freedom by learning to be something he associates with heroism means he somehow 'should have known' he wasn’t going to be a ‘good fit’ for the Order. My argument is that there was nothing wrong with Anakin, and there was in fact no legitimate reason for him or ANYONE ELSE to believe he'd not be good at using the Force to help others (which is what the Jedi are supposed to do), especially when he had literally just done so in the pod-race. The whole reason Qui-Gon noticed Anakin was because of how strong in the Force he already was, even untrained. Qui-Gon has faith in him, it's just the Jedi Council that doubts him. Because, unlike Qui-Gon who perceives Anakin's positive qualities and potential, Yoda and the Jedi Council are afraid of him. Because Anakin is basically an 'unknown' (read: uncontrollable) entity suddenly in their midst.
While the Prequels film-canon stands on its own in this regard, we can also look to the novelizations for even more emphasis on this topic. In the TPM novelization, several things are noteable: first of all, even before Qui-Gon arrives, Anakin has had prophetic dreams about becoming a Jedi. And since Shmi is aware that Ani's dreams and visions do often come to pass, when Qui-Gon appears and offers to take him away to be trained, why wouldn't she think that maybe this was somehow Force (or Fate) ordained? And that therefore it was the right thing to do to let him go? And the second thing, is while it's also clear that Little Ani (like Luke!) has a romanticised view of what being a Jedi might be like, his actual motivation for becoming a Jedi is not simply because he 'selfishly' wants to embark on some fun adventure without his mom. On the contrary, every. single. time. little Ani thinks about the possibility of becoming a Jedi or leaving Tatooine, it's directly in relation to eventually returning to FREE his mother and the rest of the slaves:
He was several things in the course of his dreams. Once he was a Jedi Knight, fighting against things so dark and insubstantial he could not identify them. Once he was a pilot of a star cruiser, taking the ship into hyperspace, spanning whole star systems on his voyage. Once he was a great and feared commander of an army, and he came back to Tatooine with ships and troops at his command to free the planet’s slaves. His mother was waiting for him, smiling, arms outstretched.
and
He gazed skyward, his mother's hand resting lightly on his arm, and thought about what it would be like to be out there, flying battle cruisers and fighters, traveling to far worlds and strange places. He didn't care what Wald said, he wouldn't be a slave all his life. Just as he wouldn't always be a boy. He would find a way to leave Tatooine. He would find a way to take his mother with him. His dreams whirled through his head as he watched the stars, a kaleidoscope of bright images. He imagined how it would be. He saw it clearly in his mind, and it made him smile.
Anakin wants to escape slavery and train as a Jedi so he can come back and continue helping his friends and family on Tatooine. So he can return to free the slaves. Little does he know that he won't be allowed to do that... :'(
It's important to note as well that at this point, Anakin *also* has no idea that, as a Jedi, he won't be allowed to get married and have a family. Even though he is already naively imagining himself someday marrying Padme. So he doesn't know that not only will he not be permitted to return for his mother as he'd always hoped, but he will also technically not be allowed to even have a family of his own even when he's old enough to do so.
And what of Shmi's thoughts on Anakin becoming a Jedi? At the start of the AotC novelization, she is trying to be happy with the thought of it, but ONLY because she believes he must be living his best life as a Jedi. She has no idea that he had to go through rejection first before being accepted into the Order. The AotC novelization shows that as Shmi is being held captive and tortured by the Tusken Raiders, she tries to comfort herself by holding onto her imagination of what Anakin's time as Jedi is like:
All those times staring up at the night sky, she had thought of him, had imagined him soaring across the galaxy, rescuing the downtrodden, saving planets from ravaging monsters and evil tyrants. But she had always expected to see [Ani] again, had always expected him to walk onto the moisture farm one day, that impish smile of his, the one that could light up a room, greeting her as if they had never been apart.
Heartbreakingly, as Shmi is being brutalised to death, she clings to the hope that her beloved Ani's life is now better than it was before, and that it was worth saying farewell to him all those years ago, even while simultaneously desperately longing to see him again.
As an aside, it aggravates me to no end that *cough* certain parts of this fandom perpetuate the idea that Shmi is just some blank, wholly selfless entity with no wants or desires of her own. That she's the ‘perfect’ example of a Jedi with no 'attachments' (aka an Old Order Jedi), and that somehow Anakin is a just a 'failure' compared to her. Yes, it could be argued that Shmi is shown to be a better or truer 'Jedi' than most of the other Jedi in the story (aside from Luke in RotJ), but guess what that would mean in that case? (Hint: it has to do with love and family.) Because first and foremost, Shmi is a MOTHER who is trying to do the best for her son, even though a piece of her heart is always missing while he is gone. The AotC novelization shows repeatedly that she tries to assure herself that she did the right thing by letting Ani go, but the human mother side of herself also cries out for him and misses him desperately. She might have let him go in TPM, but in AoTC she wants to see him again. In fact, she believes strongly that she will see him again (because she loves him and he’s her hero because she’s his mom and she trusts he will eventually come back to find her), which is the only thing keeping her holding on until he arrives. How can Shmi be a perfect example of an Old Order Jedi when the motivating factor for even her most selfless actions is her personal FAMILIAL attachment to and unconditional LOVE for Anakin?? Also, how insulting is it to claim that Anakin is a 'failure' in comparison to his 'wonderful, perfect mother', and then proceed to place all the blame on him for being said 'failure'....when he was shown on-screen to be doing just fine in taking after his mother prior to his time in the Jedi Order????
As another poster noted elsewhere, Shmi Skywalker is the only person responsible for the truly good person Anakin Skywalker was.
This is the heart of the entire saga. Anakin's True Self is good because of his mother. Because of how she raised him (to be selfless and to want to help others) and because of the unconditional LOVE she had for him. It was the Jedi Order that failed to provide that for Anakin, and Sidious who manipulated the situation to his advantage.
(And if Shmi was the only person who truly solidified Anakin's inner goodness, then Qui-Gon was the only Jedi who was presented as being equipped to bring out the best in Anakin when Shmi wasn't around. The only one who was prepared to act as an openly warm and compassionate parental figure to Anakin, the only one who could have properly mentored Anakin and helped him navigate both his Force powers as well as the Jedi Code, and the only one who was shown to be willing to stand up to the Council on Anakin's behalf. The tragedy is not that Qui-Gon found Anakin or even that he offered to take him to train in the Force. Rather, the tragedy is that Qui-Gon is slain in the Duel of the Fates, which leaves Anakin without a true protector and advocate in the Order, and allows Sidious an 'in'.)
So the idea that the Jedi Order is Anakin's ‘replacement family' is simply not true—certainly not in the way the story actually pans out. It's telling that, in the original Prequels-era EU, Anakin ran away from the Jedi Temple multiple times. That is NOT the behaviour of a happy child. (It is, however, typical behaviour for children who are struggling in institutionalised care.)
And indeed, the very first paragraph of the AotC novelization opens with Anakin dreaming that he is part of a warm, loving family:
His mind absorbed the scene before him, so quiet and calm and...normal. It was the life he had always wanted, a gathering of family and friends—he knew that they were just that, though the only one he recognized was his dear mother. This was the way it was supposed to be. The warmth and the love, the laughter and the quiet times. This was how he had always dreamed it would be, how he had always prayed it would be. The warm, inviting smiles. The pleasant conversation. The gentle pats on the shoulders. But most of all there was the smile of his beloved mother, so happy now, no more a slave. When she looked at him, he saw all of that and more, saw how proud she was him, how joyful her life had become.
Why would Anakin be dreaming longingly of being part of an openly loving, happy family if he already had that at the Jedi Temple? (Tellingly, he notes that this seems like something normal, as if he's aware that it ought to be commonplace despite the fact that it's currently missing from his own life.)
And later on, when he's visiting Padme's parents' house for dinner, he sees this exact type of scene he's been longing for play out right in front of him, and he wishes that his mother could be there to enjoy it, too:
Anakin took a good helping of several different dishes. The food was all unfamiliar, but the smells told him that he wouldn’t be disappointed. He sat quietly as he ate, listening with half an ear to the chatter all about him. He was thinking of his mom again, of how he wished he could bring her here, a free woman, to live the life she so deserved.
Note that Anakin is thinking about his mother, and putting her first in his mind. He can barely enjoy the meal while he believes his mother could be out there, suffering.
Later on as he and Padme are heading to Tatooine to search for Shmi, they bond over the fact that both their mothers told them the same nursery rhyme ('home again to rest'). It means a lot to Anakin that he can bond with Padme over this similar childhood memory. (No doubt something he would not have had in common with his peers in the Temple, since their only childhood memories would have been within the Jedi Order, rather than in a true home. And certainly not with a mother.)
Finally, we get to the RotS novelization. Yes, THAT one. The one in which we see that Anakin was perfectly willing to walk away from the Order the minute he returned from the war and discovered Padme was pregnant. Willing to walk away to start their FAMILY together. But then his nightmares began, and he reluctantly stayed just a little longer, thinking the Jedi (whom he originally joined with the express intent of wanting to help his loved ones) could offer him some solution to the horror his nightmares were showing him:
If not for his dreams, he’d withdraw from the Order today. Now. ...Let the scandal come; it wouldn’t destroy their lives. Not their real lives. It would destroy only the lives they’d had before each other: those separate years that now meant nothing at all.
To drive the point home, we also have the pivotal scene where Obi-Wan—speaking on the Council's behalf—tries to convince Anakin to spy on the Chancellor. Their exchange says it all:
"He's my friend, Obi-Wan." "I know." "If he asked me to spy on you, do you think I would do it? You know how kind he's been to me. You now how he's looked after me, how he's done everything he could to help me. He's like family." "The Jedi are your family." "No. No, the Jedi are your family. The only one you've ever known. I had a mother who loved me."
Anakin's story breaks my heart because all he wants—all he has ever wanted—is a family. Not to just to 'have' one in a vague sense, but to be PART OF ONE. He wants this, because even when he was slave living an unfree life, at least he had his mother. At least he could feel his mother's love, and could openly demonstrate his love to her in return. For Anakin Skywalker, being a Jedi was never the goal in and of itself. In his mind, it was always primarily a means to save those he loved. To save his family. This is simultaneously the most tragic and the most beautiful thing about his character. It is both his fall AND his redemption.
And those who insist on ignoring Anakin’s deep-seated longing for a family and want to act as though he should just be content with the Jedi Order instead are willfully missing the entire point of his story.

pro jedi fans speeding right past the actual movies to uphold the word of god as the only correct interpretation
like yes attachment does include love. that's literally a significant aspect of the plot in the prequels. glad to know that a huge part flew over your heads because you care more about intent than execution
anakin's attachments became unhealthy because he wasn't taught or allowed to express them in a healthy manner. like the jedi in the PT needed to get their heads out of their ass, disconnect themselves from a corrupt Senate and actually help the people instead of all the wealthy elites. like. why can the jedi help the hutts but not the literal slaves? babes that's not peacekeeping that's aiding and abetting slave owners like for peace you sometimes have to say no to slavery.
hope that helps

If you needed evidence that the pro-Jedi fandom is filled with western Christians, their repeated equation of "victim = moral purity/sinlessness" is a pretty good indication, I think.

Hardcore Pro Jedi people: «Anakin helped hunt down and kill the Jedi Order who were his family»
Me: Okay, that is the list of all Jedi Anakin have ever interacted with except Obi-Wan , Ahsoka and some characters like Vergere or Jax Pavan(who is stated to be his friend, but it is never shown)
Starting from the beginning:
Siri Tachi. Former love of his master and the master of his rival. KIA during the Clone Wars
Yaddle(Legends). Jedi Council member. Sacrificed herself in order to save Mavan cities from gas poisoning. Anakin blamed himself for it.
Ferus Olin. Friendly rival. Due to both of them acting like idiots on Corriban and causing a death of their friend by it, left the Order.
Darra Thel-Tanis. Friend. KIA before the Clone Wars, partly due to Anakin and Ferus not being able to put their rivalry aside for a freaking second.
Thru Veld. Former friend. They grow distant after Darra's death and never mended their relationship up to the Order 66.
Ry-Ghaul and Soera Entana. Masters of Darra and Thru. Did not have a lot of moments with Anakin. Entana was KIA during the Order 66, and Ry-Ghaul not so long after it
Jorus C'baoth. Not actually a normal Jedi, but Anakin respected him. Departed to the Outbond Flight where he perished.
Lorana Jinzler. Worked with him, but died after they separated and was considered MIA.
Luminara Unduli. Worked with him on Ansion mission, but however good relationship they have prior to Geonosis, Luminara by herself destroyed it when she suggested to abandon Ahsoka and Barris under the rubble.
Barris Offee. They were on friendly terms up to the time Barriss decided to become a terrorist and framed Ahsoka as guilty party.
Halagad Ventor. Were frinends, until Ventor refused to introduce Kharys to Order and belittled her with something she had no control over and attacked Anakin.
Jinn Altis. He consulted with him about joining Altisian community after the war, but nothing more, because canon evenets are obliged to happen.
Padawan Pack. His friends and battle comrades, with whom he generally had friendship and whom he geniunely mourned(a single person from all Order, no less).
Bhat Jule. Another comrade who died in Anakin's arms.
A'Sharad Hett. Not friends though, but he at lest managed to get Anakin cured of his rage and hatred towards tuskens(and also, after attacking him in the fit of rage and frustration, Anakin actually felt remorse).
Tono. Boxed for the sake of the plot, cause i hardly can imagine, why they couldn't send a droid with explosives to the generator. Another victim of the war and commanding officers stupidity.
Ki-Adi-Mundi. Was Anakin's temporary master after Obi-Wan was considered KIA, but also was the part of Jedi Council who decided it would be hella wonderful idea to sent a bunch of teenagers with uncompleted training to warzone. In the end, Anakin ended up a sole survior of this group.
And it's Legends. In current canon, he has even less social connections inside the Order and does not seem to consider it his community(no matter what some pro jedi fans say)
They were not his community, the were nothing but his coworkers(at many cases) And i wouldn't even start with Jedi being goverment-funded organisation and not some harmless hippies or anarchist commune.
And also Anakin is not always guity party for everything that went wrong in their relationships(the sole exception is Olin, Thel-Tanis and Veld case).
Ki-Adi-Mundi(as part of Council) sent his friends to death and attempted to talk Anakin of searching for his master.
Ventor attacked him.
Luminara decided to abandon his padawan under the rubble.
Barriss betrayed Ahsoka's trust and nearly get her executed.
So, by the events of ROtS Anakin has nothing to reach for in the Order and in Legends canon, he actively plans to leave it after war. And at the same time, he doesn't have anybody in Order he can be truly open about his grievances and troubles and as his Padawan Pack friends and his former Padawan's cases indicate him, Order doesn't care about its members. So, he ends up unprotected against Palpatine's careful manipaulations(which wouldn't have happened if Jedi Order was such a good community as their fans paint it).
If one man does not trust his family and the said family is shown to care more about its public image than searching for truth and actually helping someone, it may be that the man is not one to have all problems here.

Star Wars fans who are extremely pro Jedi and hate Anakin have such a black and white view on the series that if Star Wars was truly like that then it would be extremely boring. To them the Jedi have to be all good and there can’t be any moral failing in them and if you think that there were some flaws in the system like I do then you must think that they deserved to be slaughtered. To them only Anakin is responsible for his fall even though the series shows that Palpatine was grooming him and the Jedi Order was wearing down Anakin’s trust in them. They ignore Luke who is seen as the moral compass of the series was constantly questioning the Jedi Order and didn’t 100% trust them. They ignore that Obi-Wan and Yoda were training Luke to be his father’s killer while knowingly lying to him, they just make excuses for them.

Anakin and Padme being asshole parents no matter what in fanfic where Anakin didn’t turn evil/fascist are my new most DESPISED SW fanfic trope
Like while Anakin has enough mental issues and posessiveness and will need a lot of time to heal, and it could potentially affect the sort of parent he’d be it frankly gets more unnerving if you think about the fact that all this trope pushes is the ableist crap that “some people are too mentally deranged to even be a parent”.
Would there be difficulties, sure, but this only shows the fragility of Anakin’s mental state over some inherent fascism/psycopathy gene/impulse that Jedi uncrits tend to depict it as.

The galaxy had changed a lot in the last half century, but Coruscant still smelled the same. The stench hit Kix like a punch in the face when the shuttle doors opened. It wasn’t so bad on the upper levels, but it got noticeably worse as he descended. Captain Ithano had sent him a list of supplies to requisition when Kix notified the Meson Martinet that he was headed to the old capital, and most of them were only available from some of the shadier establishments in the Coruscant underworld. More than one of the items were a complete mystery to Kix, and he didn’t bother to ask exactly what it was that he was picking up for his totally legitimate, not-at-all-disreputable employer.
Republics and empires could rise and fall and rise again, but some things never changed, and black market dealers seemed to be a universal constant. Kix kept his head down and his blaster close. He wore his armor, craving both protection and anonymity. This deep in the city, it was always dark, and anyone who let down their guard was likely to get robbed or worse. He kept a watchful eye on the shadows, ignoring the fetid puddles and skittering vermin on the walkway. Ithano’s errands kept him busy most of the day, and his life was only threatened twice, which was a marked improvement over the last time he’d gone to level 1313. His last stop brought him near a familiar neighborhood, and as he headed back topside, Kix made an impulsive detour.
The building still stood, of course. 79’s had been located in one of Coruscant’s massive skyscrapers, so it was no surprise that the platform and facade were still intact. But the bar itself had obviously gone out of business years or even decades earlier, and nothing had moved in to replace it. Even the iconic neon sign was still installed over the doors, though it was not illuminated any more, and he could see that the transparisteel was broken in several places. The doors were boarded up, but it was easy enough to work a few free so he could squeeze through the gap. He switched on his helmet light and looked around, wary of finding something—or someone—living in the derelict club. It looked like nobody had been inside since it closed.
The floor was littered with assorted detritus: broken glass, cocktail napkins, faded drink menus. A few crumbling pro-clone propaganda posters still hung on the walls: actual posters made of paper, not holosigns. He could see bits of graffiti scratched into some of the tables, and he laughed quietly as he remembered the night he had scrawled “Fives’s sister” next to a sketch of a wampa in the refresher.
Kark, he had so many memories of this place. He remembered his first trip to Coruscant as a wide-eyed shiny, dragged to the bar by his new brothers in the 501st, terrified the entire time that he was going to be reconditioned for breaking the regs. He’d overheard a cute civilian sigh, “Captain Keeli. The prettiest clone in the GAR.”
Kix had spotted the legendary clone captain right away, sharing a drink with his Nikto Jedi General Di. That night, Kix went back to the barracks and drunkenly shaved his head in imitation of the older clone. Jesse had teased him relentlessly, telling him he’d gotten the pattern wrong.
“I didn’t get it wrong,” Kix had retorted. “I made it my own.”
When the news came back that Captain Keeli, General Di, and their entire company of clone troopers had sacrificed themselves to protect the Twi’leks of Ryloth, Kix had kept the hairstyle to honor their memory and added a tattoo that read, A good droid is a dead one .
He’d lost count of the nights he’d spent here, celebrating victories, mourning fallen brothers, searching for something more than the life of a man bred exclusively for war. Nights spent dancing and drinking with Jesse, Fives, Cerra, and Tup; nights spent seeking out nameless hookups with beings who only saw him as a piece of meat; nights spent brawling just to feel something, even if it hurt. Anything to drown out the screams of the brothers he couldn’t save, to drive away the memory of blood on his hands.
The last time he’d been here, he’d come with Jesse to celebrate his brother’s successful completion of ARC trooper training. It was his first time visiting the bar since the fateful night Fives had cornered him in the filthy bathroom, ranting about inhibitor chips and conspiracies and corruption at the highest levels of government. Kix had avoided the place after that, but Jesse had been so proud of his promotion, and he’d wanted to show off his new armor, and Kix had never been able to say no to Jesse. They’d started the night with tihaar shots, and then somebody had passed around tablets of sansanna spice. Kix had a vivid memory of a stunning Zeltron woman trailing her hand suggestively over Jesse's pauldrons.
“I like your armor," she'd said. "It’s so thoughtful of the Republic to provide leg rests.”
The night had degenerated into a wild blur of spice, booze, and anonymous sex after that. Jesse had loved every second of it. Kix, on the other hand, had been in full self-destruction mode after losing Fives and Tup, and that particular outing was when he hit the bottom. The next morning, bandaging his knuckles after a fight he didn’t remember, reeling from a nuclear hangover and a deep feeling of self-loathing, he’d commed Cerra and asked her to help him follow Fives’s investigation. He started by removing his inhibitor chip, growing his hair to cover the scar. It had been strange to let go of something that had been a part of his identity for so long.
Without direct access to the Kaminoan data, it had taken months to uncover the full potential of the chips, and he’d been assigned to the mission on Skako Minor before he’d completed his investigation. Finding Echo alive had renewed Kix’s determination to save more of his brothers, and he’d redoubled his efforts. Within weeks, he found what he was looking for, and then the Separatists found him.
He couldn’t save any of his brothers after all.
Kix took a long, last look around. The galaxy had moved on from the Clone Wars, and 79’s had failed to adapt and survive. All that remained of the clone bar was an empty shell, and only ghosts within.
It was late when Maree arrived on Coruscant. Teejay had booked a driver to pick her up from the spaceport and take her directly to her hotel at the top of one of the city’s gleaming towers. It had been a long day, and she desperately wanted to take a shower and go to bed. She stared at the garish holosigns that flashed by the speeder, replying mechanically to her driver’s inconsequential chatter.
It had taken longer than anticipated to receive approval for Kix to enter the Imperial Military Records Archive, and thus several days had passed since they had spent the night together. He hadn’t contacted her except to acknowledge that he’d received her message explaining the delay. The approval had arrived in the late afternoon, and Maree had Teejay book transport to Coruscant that night. As soon as she boarded the shuttle, she sent Kix a message with instructions to meet her at the archive the next morning.
Maree avoided Coruscant whenever she could. Something about the planet gave her the shudders. It was strange; she loved Hosnian Prime even though it was also an ecumenopolis. She had attended university on Coruscant and left the planet at the first opportunity. Accustomed as she was to the endless expanses on the planets of the Outer Rim territories, she felt claustrophobic and panicky among the towering spires and plastcrete canyons of Coruscant. At least on Hosnian Prime she could see the planet’s actual surface. The only way she could do that on Coruscant was to visit the peak of Mt. Umate in Monument Plaza, as if it were a curiosity or a tourist destination, and not the very foundation on which the ancient city was built.
But beyond all of that, Coruscant had always seemed to Maree to have an air of desperation. Strip away the glittering facade of the upper levels, and underneath one would find only pain and misery and exploitation. She was too young to remember Coruscant under Imperial rule, but she couldn’t imagine that much had changed with the formation of the New Republic. The corruption here was too systemic, too entrenched, to be undone with a mere regime change, no matter how determined or well-intentioned the government might be. It had been this way under the Old Republic; it had continued under the Empire; and there was no sign that anything had improved under the New Republic.
The soft chirp of her commlink startled Maree out of her pessimistic ruminations. It was a message from Kix.
Are you on 000?
She typed out a quick reply. Yes. Heading to my hotel now.
Have you eaten? He responded immediately.
Not yet, Maree typed. I was planning on getting room service.
Want some company? He replied.
Maree was a little surprised at the offer. She’d thought that his lack of communication had signaled that he wasn’t interested in continuing what they’d started his last night on Hosnian Prime. She’d told herself it was for the best, even if it stung a bit. She didn’t do long term, as Valsi had pointed out. The rational part of Maree’s brain said she could hardly fault Kix for sharing her attitude. But there had been something different about her time with Kix—something she could almost have believed was special, if not for the haunted look in his eyes as he’d left her flat.
Still, it couldn’t have been such a terrible night for him if he was interested in a repeat. The cynical voice in her head told her it was just more convenient for him to booty call her than to go to the effort of picking up another bedmate. Maree took a moment to consider. Kix had been good in bed—fantastic, actually. She definitely wouldn’t mind going another round or three with him. She was fully capable of keeping her feelings under control—it was her specialty, after all. And if she felt a twinge of disappointment that he only saw her as a warm body, it would fade.
Sure, she replied. Meet up at the hotel bar in an hour?
She sent him the name of her hotel, and he replied with a thumbs-up. She sighed a little, thinking wistfully that she’d have to settle for a sonic shower. She could see the hotel from the speeder now, and by the time she checked in, she had just enough time to unpack her bags and touch up her makeup after getting cleaned up.
Kix was already at the hotel bar when she arrived. She spotted him immediately, leaning against the bar, looking impossibly handsome and absolutely radiating unfriendliness. Something in his posture made him look dangerous in a way she hadn’t noticed during their earlier encounters. The other bar patrons gave him a wide berth. He stared down into his glass and didn’t notice her until she slipped into the space next to him. He looked up, and his stormy expression cleared at once.
“Hey, stranger,” she said, stretching up to kiss his cheek. “Am I late?”
He shook his head. “Got here early. Nothing better to do.”
Maree raised her eyebrows. He wasn’t slurring, but his breath smelled like whiskey, and she wondered how many he’d had. She signaled the bartender and ordered a cocktail, while Kix ordered another whiskey. The bartender shot her a meaningful look.
“Let’s get a table,” Maree said. “I’m starving.”
“Can I get anything started for you?” the bartender asked.
Maree glanced at the menu and ordered an assortment of appetizers, then led Kix to a cozy little booth in the back corner of the bar. Remembering his dislike of having his back to a door, she scooted into the side with the best view of the room, then patted the seat next to her. He dropped into the booth and immediately slid his hand high up her thigh.
Damn, he’s not wasting any time, she thought.
“How’ve you been?” she asked, hoping to pump the brakes a bit.
He shrugged. “Didn’t come here for small talk.”
He leaned in to kiss her, and she pulled back automatically.
“Agreed, I came here for dinner,” she said pointedly. “When’s the last time you ate?”
“Don’t remember,” he said. “Not hungry. At least not for food.”
He pushed his hand higher up her leg and cupped her sex through her gown. She suppressed a twinge of irritation and—to her horror—arousal.
“Well, I am,” Maree said, firmly pushing his hand back down her leg to rest safely on her knee. “I guess you’ll just have to wait.”
The bartender approached with their drink order as well as two glasses and a large pitcher of water, then beat a hasty retreat as Kix glared at him. Kix reached for his whiskey, but Maree picked it up and moved it to her side of the table.
“Water first,” she said.
He glowered at her, but she didn’t back down, meeting his eyes squarely with an expression she normally reserved for arguments with NRGL administrators. He grumbled a protest but drained one of the water glasses, and Maree refilled it before she gave him back his whiskey and sipped her own cocktail.
“Bossy,” he muttered.
“Yep,” she said agreeably. “If you’re a good boy and do what you’re told, maybe I’ll let you have dessert later.”
His eyes darkened. Maree hadn’t missed the way he responded when she’d called him a good boy in the bedroom, and she was not above exploiting that tidbit of knowledge to get him to make at least slightly healthier choices.
“Why wait?” he rumbled.
“Because the food is here,” Maree said, stifling a relieved sigh.
A service droid rolled up and deposited a tray of food at their booth. Maree picked up a bite and offered it to Kix. He ate it directly from her hand, his warm lips brushing against her hand.
“I know what you’re doing,” he said.
“I should hope so,” Maree replied, handing him another bite.
“Do you know how much whiskey it would take to get me drunk?” he asked.
“I don’t know. How much have you had?” she asked.
“Not enough,” he replied. “I don’t need to sober up.”
“What do you need?” she asked.
“Something stronger than whiskey.”
“What happened, Kix?” she asked. “Why are you doing this?”
He sighed, looking away from her. His eyes focused somewhere in the middle distance on something only he could see.
“It’s this kriffing planet,” he said at last. “Too many memories.”
“I didn’t realize you’d spent much time here,” she said.
He laughed humorlessly. “I used to live here. It’s been a long time.”
“I take it that things didn’t end well?” she asked, feeding him another bite, and then scooting his water glass closer.
“You could say that,” he said. His glance flicked between her face and the water glass, and his lips nearly twitched into a smile, but he obediently took another drink of water.
“Do you want to talk about it?” she asked.
“Not particularly.”
Stars, the man held onto his secrets like they were made of solid beskar. It didn’t bother her, exactly. After all, he was technically just her client, and spending a night together had not changed that, nor had she expected it to. She shrugged and began to eat her own food.
“Well, with any luck, it won’t take long to find what we need in the Archive, and you can get back to your life and leave this place far behind,” she said.
Kix made an odd expression, but he didn’t reply. Once she’d gotten him to eat those first few bites, he seemed to realize that he was ravenous, because he polished off the three plates she’d set in front of him and then began to steal bites off of her plate, too. He drained a second glass of water as well, so she didn’t object when he finished his whiskey. Throughout the meal, he’d kept his hand firmly on her leg, though he didn’t attempt any further explorations after she shut him down. Instead, he contented himself with drawing lazy circles on her thigh with his thumb.
They ate in silence, and Maree couldn’t help contrasting it with their banter at the hanging garden. Just when she had thought she was getting to know Kix, he reminded her that she really had no idea who he was.
He flagged down the server droid and ordered it to bring the bottle of whiskey. Maree sighed but didn’t intervene. She wasn’t his mother, and if Kix was determined to get plastered, that was his call to make. Still, she had no interest in watching him make a public spectacle.
“We’ll take it to go,” she said. “Charge everything to my room.”
To his credit, Kix didn’t stumble or weave on the walk to the lifts. In fact, he didn’t show any visible signs of intoxication at all. He was a perfect gentleman until they entered the empty lift and the doors closed behind them. And then he pounced. His mouth crashed into hers as he pinned her against the wall. All the air rushed out of her lungs, and she nearly dropped the bottle of whiskey. His hands roamed over her body, squeezing, stroking. His kiss was rough and hard, and Maree let out a strangled moan as he used his tongue and teeth. He kissed and licked and sucked his way down her neck and chest, pulling her neckline down to give him access to her shoulder. He bit her hard enough to leave a mark, and she flinched. He pressed his lips soothingly to the mark, and then returned to her mouth, consuming her with a kiss that danced along the edge of pleasure and pain. She didn’t even realize he’d rucked up her dress until she felt his rough fingertips slip into her underwear. She broke the kiss with a gasp.
“Kix, w—wait,” she panted.
He froze.
“Isn’t this what you wanted?” he asked raggedly. “Isn’t this why you told me to meet you here?”
“Yes, but you’ve been drinking, and—”
“Do I look drunk to you?” he demanded. “I know what I am doing. If you don’t want this, tell me now, and I’ll leave.”
“No, I—I want this,” she said, and he lunged back into action, kissing her until she was breathless. He yanked the fabric of her panties to the side and stroked his fingers over her pussy, hissing when he felt the wetness there.
“Not so calm as you pretended, are you, dirty girl?” he asked. “Is this all for me?”
“Yes, damn you,” she cursed as he slipped one of his fingers inside. Her body convulsed around him. “F—f—fuck!”
He thrust into her over and over, stretching her out until he could fit a second finger inside, dragging his thumb over her clit. She arched into the sensation. Her legs quivered and gave out, but Kix was there to catch her, wrapping his arm around her waist as she clung to his shoulders. There was no trace of the gentle man who’d touched her so reverently the last time they were together. This time, Kix was dominant, almost aggressive, handling her with a sublime roughness that had her trembling on the edge of an orgasm within seconds.
The lift slowed and emitted a soft chime.
“It’s not our floor,” Maree gasped.
Kix moved to shield her with his body just in time for the doors to slide open. He snarled at the hapless intruder, an Ishi Tib who stumbled back with wide eyes as he took in the scene before him.
“Sorry!” he squawked. “I’ll take the next one!”
The doors slid closed. Maree’s cheeks burned with humiliation, and she hid her face against Kix’s shoulder.
“Look at me,” he commanded. “I want to see your face when you come all over my hand.”
His filthy words, the deft movements of his fingers, and the adrenaline rush of getting caught were too much. He wrenched her pleasure forcibly from her. She whimpered in surprise as her body clenched around him, her orgasm bursting through her.
“That’s it,” he growled. “That’s my beautiful woman. Kriff, you look so gorgeous like this, coming apart around my fingers. I could watch you for hours.”
He didn’t slow his movements until she stopped twitching and slumped against him with a breathy moan. Still supporting her with his arm around her waist, he gently withdrew his fingers from her. He stroked his thumb across her clit in one last, soft caress, and then he allowed her skirt to fall back into place, smoothing the wrinkles. She leaned against his chest, gasping for air. He wrapped both arms around her and held her close, whispering into her hair, telling her how well she’d done, and how sexy she was, and how he was going to take such good care of her.
“I can’t wait to get you back to your room,” he murmured. “I’m going to fuck that pussy until you scream my name. Everyone in this karking hotel is going to know who is getting you off.”
Her knees buckled. He caught her with a dark laugh, taking the whiskey bottle from her loosened grasp.
“Not much longer, love,” he said. “Just a few more floors. Can you hold it together for me?”
She nodded, dazed. She was already wildly turned on again by the way he mixed praise with the dirtiest of promises. The lift slowed and the door chimed.
“This is us,” she said, her voice sounding embarrassingly unsteady.
She led him down the hall and fumbled as she keyed in her door code with shaking hands. He followed closely, dropping the whiskey on the console table and crowding close to her, his hands roaming greedily over her body. Her skin felt like it was on fire wherever he touched her. He tugged her dress off over her head in a single fluid motion as he backed her up against the bed. She tumbled onto the mattress, and he stood back, eyeing her with a hungry look.
“Stars, look at you,” he breathed. “Prettiest thing I’ve ever seen.”
“You are overdressed,” she observed.
He began to strip off his clothes as Maree propped herself up on her elbows to watch. He unbuttoned his shirt to reveal broad shoulders, muscular arms, and a thick chest that tapered down to a lean waist. His smooth, golden brown skin was criss crossed here and there by scars, and he had a smattering of dark hair. She had seen him naked before, but she hadn’t had time to admire him at her leisure. He was glorious.
As he lowered his trousers, she could see that he was fully erect, and a bead of precum had dampened his underwear. She sat up to reach for him, teasing his cock through the fabric before easing the garment down over his narrow hips. She made a happy little noise and leaned forward to swirl her tongue around his shaft. He tangled his hands in her hair with a curse. She loved the gentle tugging on her scalp and hummed with pleasure at the taste of him. His hips bucked forward at the sensation. Before she could proceed, though, he used her hair to pull her head away from him, then pressed her down onto the mattress, climbing on top to straddle her hips.
She could feel the weight of his erection resting on her belly. She traced her hands up his thighs, but he stopped her before she reached his cock. Gripping her wrists, he pinned her hands to the bed. He leaned down and began to explore her body with his mouth. Rubbing his cock against her torso, he kissed and licked down her chest, and then he drew one breast to his mouth and bit down, hard, as he sucked on her. She let out a ragged, broken sound.
“You’re going to remember me,” he growled as marks bloomed across her skin. “Don’t ever forget me.”
“Never,” she whispered as he sucked bruises onto her breasts again and again.
“That’s fucking right,” he said, and he plunged into her in a single, hard thrust, sheathing himself fully in her slick heat.
She cried out his name as he drove himself into her again and again. She could feel her body pulling taut around him, drawn like a bow, all her sensation pulling itself into the base of her spine, building in intensity until all at once, it was too much. The bowstring snapped, and she shot into ecstasy. Kix ground out a curse as he buried himself deep inside her and spilled into her heat. His arms gave out, and he collapsed onto her chest, breathless and utterly spent.

I humbly apologize to the 79's girlies (gn). If you'd like to read about the club in happier times and tag along with Kix and his friends on a night out, please allow me to recommend my fic "Do It Again," which shares continuity with this story.
