It’s hard to have sympathy for a company like Walmart, the largest retailer in the US with annual sales of about $500 billion spread across its 5330 locations. But all that glitters is not gold, at least not as golden as Walmart would like to be. Alas, there are numerous holes in their platform that leave opportunity for others, and produce a little angst for the retail giant.

Like clothing, something that every Walmart has, but for which they are not especially held in high regard. When was the last time you heard someone say they wanted to go clothes shopping at Walmart? It’s almost as if any clothes they do sell are on impulse, an afterthought once the shopper is done grabbing all the things on their list.

But Walmart cannot be faulted for at least trying, something it has done numerous times in the past. They won’t take “No” for an answer, willing to keep trying until they find the magical combination of fashion and price. Their latest effort is aimed squarely at Gen-Zers.

It comes at a time when Walmart has been doing major overhauls of its existing stores, no small task when you have to do it and still keep the store open for regular shoppers. I have witnessed this transformation at the Canyon Texas store, each visit yielding a different work-in-progress look with inventory pushed around to make room for new boutique-like retail space in clothing and other items. Why, it’s almost like Walmart borrowed a page from the Target playbook.

The new emphasis includes the revival of Walmart’s No Boundaries private label. This time it boasts 130 items targeted at young women, but there are also Men’s items, shoes, and accessories. Lastly, the chain hopes to be more size-inclusive, with size options ranging from XXS to 5X in Women’s, and XS to 3X in Men’s. That should cover just about everyone.

There are challenges, to be fair, because thus far the teeming masses have turned their noses at pretty much everything Walmart has tried to do in clothing. But this time, by targeting younger shoppers who are not yet as entrenched in their ways, they might be able to fly the W. After all, it takes a miracle to woo someone in their 40s or older when they have been buying their clothes elsewhere for decades. When you are still relatively new, though, stigmas and habits are less likely to get in the way. Besides, this is, as one Walmart exec said, the next generation of Walmart shoppers.

Smart thinking there.

The fact that this is all with private label products speaks to the broader national trend in retail, which includes groceries, dry goods, and electronics. We can thank inflation for that. Clothing retailers have leaned heavily into the strategy of late. The value proposition must be increased if companies want to have a chance of making it. Aside from the basics, clothing is a highly discretionary item. If you want proof that clothing is discretionary, look in your closet. You probably have enough clothes for five people in there.

No Boundaries will also find a home on Walmart’s website, where the company has been scoring great success since the pandemic. That, too, has been a bone of contention for the company, because they spotted Amazon about a 25-year lead before mounting any kind of reasonable threat.

Walmart has tried other approaches in recent years by acquiring online clothing companies like Bonobos, the menswear retailer, and ModCloth, a retro-styled women’s clothing company. But Walmart was never able to find success with them, and both were sold off.

Whether Gen-Zers will buy into the latest strategy remains to be seen. Perhaps I should just watch my daughters, both of whom are Zers. For that matter, I can just ask you, my students, many of whom are Zers, or at minimum Millennials. What say ye? Is this a solid strategy, or will this land with a thud like their other attempts?

But like I said, it’s hard to have sympathy for the top dog. They just want more of the dog bowl, that’s all.

nadja knows very little about her parents other than the fact that they were austrian, living in paris, and that they went to the trouble of travelling as far as england to leave her at the orphanage she lived in until the age of thirteen. most of this information came in the form of a box with a letter from her (presumed) dead mother and a brooch that nadja still keeps to this day. her desire to search for her origins is born that same day, though she barely has any time to make a plan: her home since she could barely walk burns to the ground, and all the children (herself included) are forced to leave - most of them find a forever home, and nadja does as well, in the form of the Dandelion Troupe: a travelling circus group that adopt her into their world, allowing her the pursue her dream of becoming a dancer. she makes her own outfits, a skill she brought from the orphanage, performing in them as she explores the world in hopes of finding a clue to her mother’s whereabouts.  she is homeschooled by her new family until highschool, at which point the troupe decides to pause on their activities to allow nadja to have a more normal experience with her studies. they settle for the following three years in south korea. it’s in her second year of highschool that nadja gets her first boyfriend and gets to experience what it’s like to be in a relationship.  by the time highschool ends, a pop label discovers her through a play performed by her class in which she not only danced, but sang as well, and saying goodbye to her old life, nadja’s future begins. after a rough year of a lot of training for the label on all areas of her life, nadja and the small all girl band she becomes a part of do their first show-case, and for the following two years, everything is perfectly fine. it all comes crushing down when nadja decides that it’s best if the romantic relationship she’s carried on since highschool ends - they barely see each other and while sometimes distance makes the heart grow fonder, in her case, it simply made her realize that what she felt was no longer there. her (ex) boyfriend doesn’t take this well, fearing for what it meant for what little fame he’d garnered from dating a pop star, and he threatens with exposing materials that she does not want to go public. despite this, nadja thinks he’s bluffing and quietly breaks up with him. the following day, pictures of her from highschool that were meant to be private for her boyfriend at the time were released to the public. despite all attempts, it was already too late, and the label decides to cut loose a liability for their reputation - nadja tries everything but in the end, leaves quietly, deciding that being in the limelight was not truly worth it. at the age of 23 she decides to enrol in college, taking online classes until everything dies down before she can physically go without being recognised instantly. her studies are for fashion design with a minor in performing arts - her desire, in the future, is to open her own dance studio and small boutique.

TWISTED WONDERLAND

after a fire at the orphanage she lived in, nadja takes her chances with the travelling circus that takes her in like one of their own - she knows very little about her origins other than the fact that she has magic she is still learning to use. when she finally turns 16, she finds herself leaving behind the circus with a watery goodbye to attend the Royal Sword Academy. it isn’t long until an opportunity presents itself, however, and nadja applefield is selected for a still under development and testing program that wants students to experience life in different settings - and so she becomes an exchange student at Night Raven College, being inserted into their curriculum for an unknown amount of time. upon arrival, she awaits the reveal of which dorm would be taking her in, finding her new home for the foreseeable future at pomefiore.

nadja applefield was adopted at the age of thirteen by a very loving couple of old carnies that were looking for a new member for their family - little did she know that her new life would begin in japan, so far away from the orphanage in europe. other than some trouble adapting to a new language, nadja fully embraces her new home, even growing the desire to go to UA and help save lives. as years go by, nadja’s dream evolves and changes as she begins to understand her quirk a bit better, and by the age of 15 she enrols at UA as a new student for the support course, where she can hopefully put her sewing abilities to good use and help create new hero costumes. now as a second year at UA, nadja knows that she wants to create her own company when she graduates to help heroes find their perfect fit, a mixture of quality, technology and comfortable clothing!

Hello everyone nice to meet you my name is Stephanie Martinez. I am 27 years old. Here is a bit about me and how I define myself like you see on my Blog I am into the chakras. Words that define me; I am a sister, hard worker, perfectionist, helpful, frustrated, understanding, creative, passionate, try to be strong the list can go on. I am taking this class because for my degree plan I have to take it to graduate and it sounded interesting to me. I am proud to announce that I graduate this December 18.2021 in the fall with a bachelors of Science with an option in Community Development and a Minor of Marketing I switched my major because I want to be done already from school and I can’t spend time with my family if school is taking a lot of my time. My program used to be Fashion Merchandising & Design: Visual Merchandising Concentration for a Bachelor applied arts degree. But I switched it to Bachelor of Science with a Marketing Minor and concentration of option in Community Development concentration in Community services. Don’t get me wrong I love fashion but I wasn’t going to wait another 2 years to graduate it takes a lot of time especially when you have a little one its hard but I did a lot of classes of fashion I was almost done with it but my family is important , education too but me graduating faster and paying less is more important to me so I can start a career and get paid well to support my family.  Sometimes we have to make hard decisions to not loose precious time with your loved ones especially with this pandemic.

 I always had a passion for fashion since I was little and never changed my major till this day. I have experience in sewing I made 5 gowns for my Fashion show at a trade school I was in for 2 years our final grade was a fashion show with our creation and collections.

I used to work in retail Tjmaxx for 3 years as a display presenter in the Women’s department/ visual merchandiser.  Then I work in Guess Company for a few months in Women’s department.

My future aspirations and goals I have for myself is owning my own store as a boutique owner developing a private label merchandise and quality control team of my own boutique. The reason why I decided to do a private label is brand because it has several important advantages as a business approach like higher for example, High Margins for a private label typically have significantly a higher profit margin than resale products. Another fact is the Exclusivity is a private label branding that is one way to separate ourselves from competitors. Another important advantage will be the loyalty and wholesale income in a private label branding. My private label that I would like to develop and like I have mention in my future aspirations and goals will be my private brand named “Flawsome Meraki-Metonia” which is my Fashion statement logo name that I made up but consider it to be real in the future.

The Marvel star takes us inside her transformation to a new kind of hero

  GRAZIA: Elizabeth Olsen is a trooper. We are in a field in Surrey on the outskirts of the Marvel studios; it’s a biting minus one and she is standing in a Chanel broderie anglaise sundress and increasingly soggy UGG boots. Her feline cheekbones face skywards, but Olsen is slowly sinking into the mud, trilling out high notes to keep herself warm (possibly distracted) and of course with spirits high. “It was the wind I think, that was worse than the sideways rain,” she jokes as we trundle back to the soundstage hangar that we are using as a studio. It’s the kind of moment that could go viral on Instagram, that is, if Olsen were on social media. Yet one of the biggest stars of our current cultural moment is completely offline – and that surprising fact might just be the least interesting thing about her. If anything, it is a sign of how Olsen has come into her own as a confident, decisive star with the power to create her own universe.

On the cusp of her 32nd birthday, Olsen is fastidious and professional, yes, but also bright, engaging, creative, and collaborative. Born and raised in the California sunshine, she is surprisingly at ease in the blustery conditions that deluge the English countryside in late January – or, it’s that she’s very good at acting. “It was one of the ugliest days of this winter – just hilarious – but I knew we wanted the shot,” the 31-year-old actress says.

Since October, Olsen’s been living in the leafy British countryside with her “man-guy-partner,” musician Robbie Arnett, just a short drive to the Surrey compound where Doctor Strange is being filmed. It’s a closed set, masked in secrecy as much as the socially distanced masked crew dotted all over the 200-acre studio. “It feels right being in a small city right now,” she says.

Indeed, Olsen is a modern-day Renaissance woman. Learned and dedicated to her craft, she studied at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, with a semester at the Moscow Art Theatre School studying Stanislavski. (Surely, no matter how much of a genius the Russian theatre master was, he never could have conceived of the Marvel universe.)

Approached with the concept of WandaVision, “I thought it was perfect for television, and a very original idea that made me excited,” Olsen says. Also, she was happy she would get to work with Bettany again: “He’s very precise, like me.”

In many ways, WandaVision is a love letter to the first American television heyday. Olsen, who stayed up late watching Nick at Nite reruns as a child, says it’s a bit of a homecoming in that way. “I was a very hammy, performative child,” she explains. “So, I do think I got to live out some sort of childhood dream doing the show.”

“The highlight was really getting to tell a story about these superhero individuals told in different decades of American sitcoms, trying to match the tone of those sitcoms in order to help orate the story,” she says. “But keep it playful and fun.” Little did she know just how much we’d need that.

Half-filmed pre-pandemic in Atlanta and half post-pandemic in LA – with a six-month hiatus in-between “until all the unions figured out to work safely” – WandaVision was released almost a year into the pandemic. In many ways, it is an artifact of its time: centered upon a yearning for the simplicity of earlier days, yet shot through with the creeping realization that such days may never return, and perhaps never existed to begin with.

Indeed, the weekly story of suburban superheroes Wanda and Vision has played out like a parable of our times: Wanda living in her chosen bubble, her trauma resonating in the world we find ourselves in today. Olsen appreciates a good metaphor, but feels people may be projecting a bit much. “I see Wanda as a victim of extreme trauma, who does not understand how to process it,” she explains. “She has been a human experiment.” (Not to belabor the point, but haven’t we all?)

Being summoned by Marvel is like being called to a parallel universe for an actor: thrilling, yes, but not without a tinge of terror and a dash of the unknown. Six years in, though, it’s become like family in some ways. As a member of two dynasties – Olsen and Marvel – family is key to Olsen. She checks in on her mom (who still lives in California) and, like many American daughters, is researching which vaccine mom should get.

The performative gene runs strong through her family, of course – and no, we don’t mean her sisters. Olsen’s mom was a ballerina. Still, when she first started auditioning, Olsen took special care to carve her own path – one far from Full House. “Nepotism is a thing and I’m very aware of it,” she says. “And of course, I’ve always wanted to do it alone.” She did just that, her acting credentials consistently rising as her sister’s cemented their fashion kudos. Olsen bears a noticeable resemblance to her fashion-designer older sisters and her sartorial DNA is similarly low-key. She loves The Row (of course) and NYC label Khaite’s denim and cashmere.

For Olsen, her day job is like playing dress-up. This time around, she walked away from WandaVision with the girdle worn underneath her 50s wedding dress, laughing, “I mean, to have a custom undergarment like that, I felt like it was necessary!” Her WandaVision co-star, Kathryn Hahn, also became her shopping cohort when filming.

“She’s dangerous!” Olsen says. “She has the most exquisite, minimal but expensive taste.” It was Hahn who led Olsen to the independent boutique where she found the belted Julia Jentzsch trench that she wore to our shoot.

At the rail of samples compiled by the stylist, Olsen gravitates towards a spacious linen boilersuit and longline cashmere cardigan. Has she always been a tomboy, I ask? “I think I felt uncomfortable being a child being told they were pretty,” she says of her early auditions at age 10, adding that her love of ballet and musical theater could leave her “feeling exposed” at a young age.

Speaking of over-exposure, Olsen is distinctly offline in a time when so many are defined by their social media presence. Among celebrities and regular digital citizens, the perfect balance of online and off is up for debate, but Olsen is clear: social media saturation is a choice for all of us, and everyone needs to draw their own boundaries.

“It has to be a personal decision, right?” she begins. “So, my opinion has nothing to do with what anyone else does or doesn’t do with it.” Her own journey began when she momentarily dabbled with Instagram (since deleted), while filming Ingrid Goes West, director Matt Spicer’s frightening and funny debut feature about a social stalker, co-starring Aubrey Plaza.

Up until that time, she says, “I had never touched it before. I thought, ‘This is an interesting social experiment for myself, to see if it is a good source to talk about charities or a good source to talk about small projects, or to share something goofier about myself.’ But I think at the end of the day, what I discovered was one, I’m really bad at creating a perceived identity!”

“I didn’t find it very organic to who I am as a person,” she continues. “I found some joy in putting up silly videos, but I think the main reason I stopped – not I think, I know the main reason why I stopped – was because of the organization in my brain.”

“Lots of horrible things happen all the time. Or, lots of great things happen all the time. Whether it’s something terrifying, like a natural disaster or a school shooting or a death, there are so many things that happen, and I love processing information. I love reading articles. I love listening to podcasts. I love communicating about things that are happening in the world to people around me. And what I don’t love is that my brain organization was saying, ‘Should I post about this?’ That seemed very unhealthy ….”

“And to then contribute to these platitudes that I don’t really love, you have to subscribe to two different ways of thinking,” she says. “So, I didn’t like that, and there was a lot of it that was just bothering me for my own sake of what value systems I have.”

That’s not to say that there’s any inherent value system – pro or con – in using Instagram. Olsen is clear that like any other method of expression, it’s up to the individual to use it as they see fit. “I do see a use of it and how you can use it well for work,” she says. “But I don’t think that I would like to use that tool to promote myself.”

She’s private for a millennial yes, but not prim. On the photoshoot, lockdown experiences were shared, and Olsen recounted her (hilarious) first at-home bikini wax: banishing her husband upstairs “for an extended chat with his therapist,” her trusted waxer on speed dial, and microwave set to ping! (Yes, Olsen is a trooper, as I mentioned.)

We catch up over Zoom a week later, her hair once again pulled up in a casual topknot, her cashmere turtleneck simmering in a dark claret, and her entire being suffused with covetable understatement. She chats buoyantly against an unexpected backdrop of pirate ship wallpaper in the playroom of a house she shares with Arnett, who proposed with an emerald and diamond ring in 2019.

“We first started to try to make it the gym, but it was so cramped,” she says of the jolly space. The home gym was instead awarded a larger room, where Olsen loves to maintain a varied fitness regime – running, yoga, dancing, more – though after all the intense Marvel filming, she jokes, “maybe it’s time to give up on my body?!” Being comic book fit does sound grueling or “time-consuming fun” as she anoints the “strenuous physical demands.”

Like most of us, she is longing for the spring, but she still takes a regular constitutional walk in a nearby Richmond park, whatever the weather. “The deer are incredible; every time I see them I feel alive,” she says. “We have been lucky to have nature around us in lockdown.” It’s a marked difference from her paparazzi-populated home in the Hills. “They know our walks, where we get coffee, work-out…,” she trails off.

Her haven in Los Angeles is her backyard, complete with a mid-century swimming pool and an edible garden. “It’s crazy the blackberries grow like weeds! I love watching a kid’s first reaction to an edible garden,” she gushes That has been the part of the pandemic travel restrictions she’s found hardest: missing her friend’s children growing up, and others who have been born this past year that she’s yet to meet. They will no doubt all be treated to her homemade blackberry sorbet on her return stateside.

Yet, her time on British soil will likely be prolonged, with a prospective indie commencing filming here when Doctor Strange wraps. Prompted for more detail, her firm charm kicks in. “I can’t jinx it!” she insists. Still, she will share that she’s heavily involved in the creative, and that funding smaller productions in the current climate has been a challenge.

Through it all, Olsen has remained determined and calm. “I feel patience is my superpower. But my weakness also,” she says. “I feel like it gets tested more than others who don’t have a lot of patience. If someone learns you’re easygoing or that you’re relaxed, sometimes it gets taken advantage of.” While she waits for the green light on that film, she is busy producing a new children’s cartoon with Arnett, “about loving and caring for our world,” and has also written a children’s book about to be published by Random House, all while the demands of Marvel life continue to surround her.

Indeed, Olsen is a superhero for the modern age: Multi-hyphenate, but fiercely devoted to the craft that she loves; instantly recognizable, yet thoughtfully protective of her private life; a woman with style, substance, success, and deep rewarding relationships with those around her; focused on a vision of a better world for us all.

"Look! Look, Alya! I may faint. Gorgeous."

Alya looked up from her phone to the runway. "The girl or the clothes?"

Marinette couldn't tear her eyes from the model. "I meant the clothes, but both."

The Gabriel fashion show was exactly the distraction Marinette had needed after her first day as a Junior Reporter. It wasn't even time for lunch yet when Chloe had heard through the grapevine that she had "taken" Marinette's job. Marinette had been sorting through the records of past articles on Chat Noir when Chloe stopped to talk to (more like corner) an intern about how some other person almost got her job and how narrowly the paper had avoided disaster by hiring her. She just "happened" to talk to the intern loudly, and three feet from Marinette's desk. The day had gone downhill from there.

"You wanna go backstage after?" Alya asked, returning to texting.

"Nino can swing that?"

Nino had gotten Alya two tickets to the fashion show to celebrate Marinette's promotion. He hadn't told Alya how he had gotten the tickets, but he did mention that they weren't a job perk.

"Apparently. He says there's a surprise."

Marinette groaned and leaned her head on Alya's shoulder. "No more surprises. Today and last night were enough surprises. No more, just for a little while?"

Alya gave her a quick side hug, then went back to texting. "I'll see if I can get it out of him for you."

Marinette meant to thank her. However, she seemed to have lost her voice. It had been stolen away by the sight on the runway. All she could do was grip Alya's arm and try to catch her breath.

"What?" Alya asked, still not looking up.

"Him."

Marinette was vaguely aware of Alya teasing her, but she didn't care. The single most attractive person she had ever seen was stopping at the end of the runway and smirking at her. With a tip of his hat- and was that a wink?- he turned and walked back up the runway, giving her a view of just how well the back of his black, shimmery suit fit him.

"Starstruck." Alya's singsong teasing finally made its way into her brain. "That was Adrien Agreste, wasn't it?"

"This is his second appearance since going to Japan for university," Marinette said.

Alya snorted. "Good to know your celebrity crush is alive and well."

"Can you blame me?" Marinette asked. "Oooh, look at the way this jacket drapes on her shoulders!"

"Don't change the- Oh, you're right. I want one like that."

"Thank you, Nino!" Marinette hugged him and, being Marinette, almost knocked them both over.

"Ready for your second surprise?" Nino asked, setting Marinette on her feet.

"Is it a good surprise like the fashion show? Or a bad surprise like you getting a picture of me with that stupid super-cat and giving it to the paper?" She crossed her arms and pursed her lips as he opened a door for her and Alya.

"Marinette, bro, I can't apologize enough. The fashion show was a 'yay promotion' present. This is a 'sorry I sold a picture of you and Chat Noir before figuring out that you were the one in the picture but in my defense, you can only see a little of your face but I'm still sorry anyway please don't me be mad at me' present."

Marinette looked around the room. It was a private dressing room for a model, with a person behind the curtain tossing clothes onto the couch against the wall. Whose dressing room was this? Was the surprise that she was getting to meet one of the models? She looked closer at the clothes. Was... was this Adrien Agreste's dressing room?

"Alya was saying how you've been feeling a little lonely lately, so I figured I'd introduce you to-"

Adrien stepped out from behind the changing curtain in jeans and a plain black t-shirt, looking even better in casual, everyday clothes than the runway pieces.

And then a squirmy, sleepy mass of fluff was shoved in her face.

"-these kittens!" Nino finished.

"Oooh..." Marinette breathed, holding out her hands for the kitten. His fur was pure black, with a little pink nose and big brown eyes. He cuddled into Marinette's chest and began purring the moment she pulled him close.

"These are your friends?" Adrien asked.

"Yeah, hey bro!" Nino walked over to slap Adrien on the back. "This is my girlfriend, Alya, and my childhood bestie, aka Alya's college bestie, Marinette. Lady-bros, meet Adrien Agreste. He’s the one who got me the tickets for you."

"Any friend of Nino's is a friend of mine," Adrien said, shaking both girl's hands. "I hear there's a promotion to celebrate?"

"Ugh, don't remind me," Marinette said, bowing her head to drop a kiss on the kitten's ear.

"She got pushed out of the job she wanted," Nino explained, picking up a second kitten from the small, towel-lined bin. "Our fashionista is gonna be reporting on our local hero cat-boy. That part's my fault, I told you about that."

Adrien turned to Marinette, eyes widening. "You're the rescued-by-Chat Noir girl?"

She narrowed her eyes. "Let me tell you about how that cat ruined my life."

Adrien watched Alya, Marinette, and Marinette's new kitten, Shadow, head to Alya's car an hour later.

"So that's Marinette?" Adrien said to Nino.

"That's Marinette!" They gathered their things, heading out for the celebratory drink that Adrien had promised Nino for his picture in the paper.

"She really doesn't like Chat Noir," he said.

"Nah, she's just mad that she has to report on him."

"She's also really into fashion," Adrien said. Marinette had had three topics: Chat Noir, her new kitten, and fashion.

"Yeah, she's got her finger on the pulse of the city's... fashion... stuff. That's why she woulda been perfect in the junior reporter position for that department."

The wheels in Adrien's head started turning. Before he could talk himself out of it, he asked, "Could you give me her phone number? I've been looking for someone- a designer. Marinette knows fashion and has investigative journalism skills, so I figured-"

"Why can't you ask around work?" Nino asked. He was pulling out his phone and opening his contacts as he spoke though.

"I don't want word getting back to my father. If he thinks I'm looking to leave the company-"

"Say no more."

Adrien's phone pinged with a text, and he had Marinette's number saved in his phone a moment later. One step closer...

They settled in at a bar before Nino let his curiosity get the better of him.

"So, who is this person you're looking for?"

Who indeed?

"Well... there was this girl..."

Six Months Ago

"Sorry, but this is probably smaller than you're used to," the nervous designer, Jakob, said, guiding Adrien to a small, curtained dressing area.

"This is more than enough room," Adrien said, looking over the rack of clothes. "And I'm excited to work with you."

The fashion show was a small one for new designers and students finishing fashion school to get the attention of bigger name labels. Adrien and a few other models had volunteered to work with the designers to help their labels find new hires.

Someone sneezed in the dressing area to the right of Adrien's.

"Bless you," Adrien said automatically.

"Thank you," A raspy voice replied. "I've been working so hard to prepare for this show, the second my work was set, this cold hit."

"That's unfortunate," Adrien said. Jakob started handing him pieces of clothing and helping him adjust the clothing for the right fit.

"I'm happy to be here, though," the woman in the other area said. "What about you? Have you been in fashion long?"

"All my life," Adrien said. "My name's Adrien Agreste."

The woman cleared her throat. "Oh. Um. Wow. Yeah, you have been in fashion your whole life, huh?"

The model working with her snorted. "Don't let Agreste fool you, he's a dork."

"Oh, hey, Chelsea!" Adrien called, recognizing the model's voice.

"This your first show since you got back last year?" Chelsea asked.

"Yeah, I figured I'd start with people who were actually happy to see me," he joked.

Someone closer to the stage yelled something barely comprehensible, and the flurry of activity picked up. Designers made their final adjustment and the first few models headed to get in order for the catwalk.

"What's your name, Miss Designer?" Adrien asked before Jakob could pull him out of the dressing area.

"Ladybug."

Adrien stopped dead. "Excuse me?"

Chelsea giggled. "Ladybug here won't tell anyone her name. We've all been pestering her, asking for it, but that's her thing, not sharing her real name."

"My brand is my identity," Ladybug said.

"Adrien, you need to get in line!" Jakob said.

"I'm gonna ask about that in a minute," Adrien said.

Between turns on the catwalk, Adrien and Ladybug got to know each other, as much as Ladybug would let him know her. She had one semester left of school, she had an online boutique for her brand, she had always felt drawn to Ladybugs, and yes, she had had a celebrity crush on him as a teenager. Whenever Jakob wasn't in the dressing room with him, Adrien was giving Plagg significant looks from where he had nested in his messenger bag.

Adrien was working his way up to asking Ladybug to get a drink that night when he heard her gasp.

“Ladybug? You okay? Stick yourself with another pin?”

“It’s- it’s my mom,” she said. “She slipped on the ice on the sidewalk and hit her head. She’s in the hospital.”

“What do you need, hon?” Chelsea asked.

“I need, um…” Adrien could hear the tears in her voice, even with the cold she had. “I need to go to her.”

“But the show! You’re doing so great!” Jakob said.

“We can take care of it,” Chelsea said. “Jakob, Adrien, and I can get your last two outfits on me and I’ll speak to the labels on your behalf, okay?”

“Absolutely,” Adrien said.
