I know in most fics Ian and Mickey have passionate reunion sex their first night in prison, and while I 100% believe they would, I wonder if their first night might’ve looked a little different

Watching Ian prepare for prison, learning how to stay safe, where to eat and who to talk to, saying goodbye to his whole family, bracing himself for a new life is stressful

I can only imagine how stressed he would be in this new, dangerous, environment. He is totally alone, the new guy who is publically gay (prisoners have access to the news), and ginger to boot

We know Ian sometimes struggles to sleep, and so I imagine Ian probably struggled to sleep properly through the night leading up to prison - let alone his first night inside

But then Mickey shows up

Mickey is there. And they are cellmates and everything will be alright.

Mickey, who has spent months in Mexico working for a cartel, dealing drugs and overall not making good decisions, does something so brave and romantic as turning himself in, just to keep Ian safe

Mickey must’ve been tired too. He’s been dealing with the feds, travelling from Mexico back to Chicago, getting a good deal, all while not knowing if Ian would even want to see him - or what mental state he is in

They’re tired. They don’t have sex.

Instead, Ian crawls into Mickeys tiny bottom bunk, sleeping next to the wall (Mickey prefers having a clear view of the door), holding each other as tightly as possible.

It should be uncomfortable how tight Ian has his arms wrapped around Mickey, but he doesn’t care. He needs it. Craves it. Loves it.

Sure, Mickey was secretly hoping for a little action, if not full-on banging a handjob would be nice - but he also loves this.

Just them. Close together, breathing each other in as they finally get to lower their guard.

Mickey turned his head slightly to steal a kiss from Ian, but to no avail. Ian is dead to the world, nose pressed deep into the nape of his neck, having spent a good few minutes just smelling his skin. Creep.

Ian finally gets his person back, and Mickey finally feels safe.

The mattress is too thin, there is just one pillow, and the bunk beds are not designed for two fully grown muscular men; but Ian is finally able to sleep trough the whole night not having a single nightmare, and Mickey is able to feel safe for the first time in months

Yeah, they’re in prison and everything gonna suck for a while, but they’re together and that’s all that matters

Ian thinks. “Holding Freddie while he still has that sweet newborn smell.”

“Pussy,” Mickey says, but he’s smiling fondly. “Sleepin’ on a mattress thicker than my dick.”

“Mmm, and shower sex. In an actual shower.”

“Fuck yeah. With a fancy ass shower head. Wanna feel like you’re eatin’ my ass under a goddamn waterfall. Gonna waterboard your face between my cheeks.”

Ian snorts, chucking a balled up sock across the bunk at Mickey’s head, but he makes another mental note. He gets out tomorrow. And whether Mickey follows in a week or a year, Ian’ll be ready.

Mickeys chest rose and fell sharply with each harsh breath. His pale tattooed knuckles were stained with red. His blue eyes fell on Ian who was on his feet again and thankfully looked unharmed.

With rage coursing through his veins he stepped forward and grabbed the nearest asshole by the collar of his yellow jumpsuit.

"I thought I had already made this very fucking clear", he hissed, before landing another swift blow on the man's already battered face.

"Ian is off limits," he ordered, "mess with him again and you die, got it. And tell your friends, Gallagher is mine".

mickey fans who think ian is bad/toxic/"worse" than mickey (or any other character for that matter) is so funny because like. how do you think mickey would react to you saying that. the whole appeal of mickey is that hes a flea-invested rabid dog that keeps crawling back to ian no matter how bad it is for both of them. thats the whole point of their dynamic. they treat each other like shit, run away to lick their wounds, then mickey drags himself back to lay at ians feet, and ian takes him back every single time because he knows nobody is ever gonna care for him like mickey does. mickey blatantly states in the show that he would extend his prison sentence if it meant staying with ian. if he can obsess over ian unconditionally then so can anyone else idk

The autumn mist settled over Chicago, just as the wet blanket settled over Ian's mind. But that didn't stop him from shuffling up the porch steps of the Milkovich house.

The figure lay under Mickey's blanket, between empty beer cans and full ashtrays. He turned around and looked him straight in the watery eyes.

"Sorry. I'm late."

He had hoped that Mickey would forgive him the breakup. He hadn't expected Mickey to slide aside and lift the blanket.

"The cops were at our house. Sammy is dead."

"I know."

"I'm sorry. I shouldn't-"

"I know."

"Love you too."

SECRET SANTA

Ian sits on his bunk, glancing at the small window. It was his first Christmas in prison, and his heart ached for the normal Gallagher festivities. He wanted to see Fred’s first gifts, Franny’s smile, even Frank’s drunken state.

“Is it always like this?” Ian asks Mickey who shrugs.

“Kinda. We get gifts, y’know. Socks or some shit.”

“We didn’t do much, but Fiona used to get us those Christmas tree cakes. Drink her famous cocoa, open gifts.” Ian sighs.

Ian comes back after work, finding a small tree cake on his bunk with a note.

Mickey must’ve thought about Ian so much while in jail after s5. Ian was mid episode when mick got arrested and then he barely visited him while he was in jail. He must’ve worried so much.

Hi @jrooc thank you for this week’s @galladrabbles prompt!

At this point I’m just going to tattoo the word “angst” on my face or something

He’s not delusional, and he’s not stupid.

Of course he knows Ian’s lying. Fuck, maybe it was selfish to ask him to wait, maybe the tattoo was selfish, manipulative, maybe he's a piece of shit for doing it at all.

But there's this thought in the back of his mind, and he just knows Ian's his. A possessive, hopeful voice that screams "mine" when his mind fills with images of his sweet smile.

So he waits, and hopes, and as weeks go by with two visitors instead of three, he wonders if maybe he is delusional or stupid after all.

“With all the blood?” Ian splutters. “And— and the fucking needles and shit? Jesus, Mick, what the hell were you thinking?”

“The fuck was I suppose to know the warden was gonna let me check out on the prison bus?” Mickey runs a soothing hand up Ian’s jaw. “Fuckin’ missed you…”

Ian immediately softens, letting Mickey kiss him as he guides them towards the bed.

“Shit—” Ian pulls away sharply. “Do I gotta worry about your jizz being radioactive now?” 

Mickey smirks, falling back and pulling Ian down on top of him. “Only one way to find out, big guy.”
