Okay, I watched AiPri episode 1

First of all, the way they refer to AiPri is super different and it's jarring. Before, like, PriPara/PriChan/PriMagi was something you could do. AiPri is something you become. You don't do AiPri, you become an AiPri (Idol Princess)?

This will take some getting used to.

As I predicted from the day it was announced, Mitsuki is already an AiPri and Himari is already a fan not knowing it's her. Her AiPri name is Mii or Miichan and she broadcasts to her Miichannel (......).

Himari's sister Hiiro calls to make sure Himari isn't late and her mother reminds her to keep up with her skin and hair care......

Himari's room is ginormous, but it does seem like she has a roommate. (Mitsuki? It's implied that Mitsuki snuck out early to go do AiPri stuff.)

Himari is nervous about starting their first day of junior high and not knowing anyone, but Mitsuki nudges her forehead (their secret good luck sign) and takes her hand and they are off.

These guys are all the student council, apparently.

Himari and Mitsuki's brothers go to the school too. It's implied that Himari's brother is very protective of Himari, but Himari kinda has a crush on Mitsuki's brother.......

AiPri isn't outright banned I think(?), but the principal Victoria seems to be against it? I wasn't quite sure she said in her speech. (She's shown later in the episode watching AiPri though.)

After establishing that Himari is shy and could never see herself doing becoming AiPri, she spectacularly falls and flips over onto her bracelet, attaching it to her hand. (You know that viral clip of like a Bollywood actress fainting into a suitcase? It was basically that.......)

(Also wait... did she accidentally steal her bracelet from the student council!!?)

Himari is being forced to debut immediately even though she doesn't want to. Despite Himari not recognizing Mitsuki as Miichan, Mitsuki recognizes Himari immediately after seeing her on a screen for five seconds and runs to her. Mitsuki/Miichan asks why she's there, and Himari insists she was forced, but Michiru asks her, isn't it because you wanted to be an AiPri? Himari realizes this is true.

Mitsuki gives Himari their good luck headbonk and Himari finally realizes it's her. The secret's out already. (But, considering they were shown performing together in the OP I figured...)

I kinda like the CG. I like the soft shading.

The Buzzilume change kinda hurts my eyes though. Why do they need to have so many.... lasers...........

I've been wondering if Buzzilume comes from like... someone told them that "buzz" as in like "what's the buzz" means like rumor, i.e. secret or something haha.

Student council gets the VIP death star.

One of them has a thick Kansai accent but I'm not sure which because she wasn't on screen while she was talking.

Is this really supposed to be the audience?

Ugh, I dunno. It's just the beginning, but I thought this episode was super cringy. I got a lot of secondhand embarrassment from it. Specifically from the scenes below:

-There's this scene where Himari is forced to address the entire school despite neither knowing nor having any chance to prepare for it. They didn't make it seem like she knew and forgot, it just seemed like she was picked randomly. It was supposed to be like an analog for her debut and show how Himari actually can overcome anything (with a little help from Mitsuki) but like... that would never happen in real life. So cruel.

-Chi is determined to break all the rules and make AiPri as little a secret as possible. The joke is she's putting her secret out there but nobody will listen to her, but... in order to make that work, they've made her super annoying haha.... ha...

-Himari ROLLING OVER AND FALLING INTO HER BRACELET... REALLY.............

-Seeing Himari's mascot/manager felt like in PriChan when Rinka was showing off Silk except we are actually supposed to think it's cute........

-Realizing Himari overcame her fears and put everything into performing to.... a bunch of.... floating c...cards.........?

Welp. Neither Himari nor Mitsuki left a big impression on me and Chi was kind of annoying. Looking forward to getting to know the student council at least, I'm pretty sure I'll find my favorite there.

Also the yellow girl does seem to be the Rinne character, as her voice was inviting Himari to the AiPri Verse and she has like, triangle pupils. It's also heavily implied in the OP that she is indeed Mitsuki and Himari's teammate. We'll see, we'll see.

Oh, and Himari didn't choose a name for her AiPri persona in this episode. Mitsuki is Mii so... (Hii? lol)

last few things to say b4 i start, hello 3 pripara fans on my account, no boypara outfits cuz i didnt grow up with that (the last op i remember is the 6th one and i dont think im anywhere near that yet in my rewatch), honestly i have no clue if there's even proper boypara outfits??? i just know it exists idk anything about it, and if u see placeholders thats cuz i wanna keep the 3 image layout, thats the only reason why lol. and outfit descriptions will go below the art of the outfit. ok time 2 start !!!!!!

Gothic Check !! the grey shirt and black jacket is kinda giving fs2 4star vibes so this would be the fs2 4star if enstars were cool (wore pripara outfits)

I was thinking of maybe changing the color but i liked the way the orange contrasts with the purple making it look kinda halloweeny :] I also have a personal bias towards brown i luv that color !! but ya if i had 2 say, he'd probably be a 3star if this were a set, kinda vaguely fits him but not enough to be under the spotlight imo

idol land pripara photo tips 📸

unfortunately, this one is big: memorize all the timing to all the songs. (I have an advantage here bc most are ancient arcade songs I've played enough to encode into my dna.) once you've done this, you don't have to look at the rhythm game and can just watch for photo ops.

luckily, this one is equally big: totally give up on a good score when you want to take photos. don't accidentally miss beats, miss them on purpose. I don't recommend this for promises you create bc it's kind of a waste of a promise ticket, but joining promises is free so it doesn't matter if you miss all the notes. + one truly fantastic advantage the app has over the arcade game is that the photo button removes all of the game ui and leaves only a pretty picture, so all evidence of your bad score is magically whisked away.

take multiple photos at a time. blast the shutter. the timing for the photo button is slow, so chances are you'll miss what you wanted to shoot if you only take one photo. start a little before whatever moment you want to shoot shows up, and then rapid-fire the photo button.

play the same song multiple times. you'll use up your 9 shots way before the song ends if you commit to the above tip, so don't worry about conserving photos for the end of the song. work your way through, taking pictures incrementally each time.

reserve one finger for photos. you don't need both hands to play the rhythm game, so use one finger to play and one to hover over the photo button at all times.

oK, I'm not gonna lie my whole mindset throughout that was the epitome of "thanks, i hate it." It's exactly the kind of cutesy voice that grinds my ears. There's a reason Pinon is my least favorite Non though Minamin's raw singing/acting talent makes her a bit more bearable than this.

When P-maru. was first announced as the OP performer I figured she was one of those many virtual idol singers I know zero about . . . and lo and behold turns out I do have some knowledge about her thanks again to Bandori, one of my only lifelines when it comes to the goings-on's in the music nerdsphere.

Huh, not a fan of that either. Kokoro/Miku Ito sounds good, though.

Avex picture's previous attempts at using Pretty Series post PriPara to launch and or assist an idol/singer's career (RIP Run Girls Run) hasn't done much so I guess using a vtuber you happen to have on hand will be less effort.

Well I watched Episode 4 of Idol Land Pripara raw because I don’t know when or if subs will ever come out but I understood pretty much most of it besides a few lines so I got the jist of it (I could not understand Ajimi at all lol)

One thing that was interesting is the YouTube version I watched had a paused screen of Amari while the OP played, like when they show off the sponsors in anime. Makes me wonder if that was there because ILP might air on tv some day or something

I don’t have anything too interesting to say about the episode but it was interesting that Yui became Amari’s manager tho I wonder if that setup will continue because I imagine it’d be difficult given she can only stay awake for 3 mins lol. I wonder if Amari will get a proper manager if she doesn’t but managers aren’t really a thing in the ILP game so probs not.

My Way Star was an interesting song though I’m not super fussed on it but I liked Dressing Pafe’s Coordes.

Will probably watch episode 5 tomorrow cause I wanna take advantage of having early access with my monthly pass and will hopefully still be able to understand most of it

With nothing better to do I've spent the last 3 or so hours thinking about Rainbow Live. I think it actually might be my favorite anime ever.

It hits all the marks. Strong, relatable and brilliant main characters. A cast of male characters who I relate to on a deeper level. Some of the best music I've ever heard in idol anime. A deep plot that keeps you invested the whole way, but also leaves room for your interpretations. Takes on real life issues that actually matter and aren't shallow. Little to no filler, all the episodes move the plot or the characters forward.

I have a hard time picking favorites. For awhile my favorite anime was Ojamajo DoReMi, but despite it's many many strengths I cannot deny that in its 200 ep run there were some less favorable episodes. Then it was Waccha PriMagi. I truly love PriMagi, but it slowed to a crawl during the elements arc for seemingly no reason, and only picked itself back up in the back half. The show desperately needs a season 2, and imo PriPara and PriChan's best seasons were the second one; so it could do so much. But alas.

I feel like Rainbow Live left an imprint on me that I'll never shake. This is one of the first anime that I feel extremely compelled to rewatch. I genuinely love these characters, they live rent free in my head.

It's not a perfect anime. Pretty Rhythm itself has always had some rough around the edges themes. There's an air of misogyny from the writers room that definitely taints a few moments. No where near as bad as Aurora Dream, but still not tasteful. Some of the character designs are rough, they definitely improved with their next series. But their willingness to be real, and not coddle these characters, spoke to me on another level.

Also the biggest problem with the show is Hiro and Kouji are madly in love but they try to say Kouji's straight. Like c'mon. Also all the OPs and EDs are pretty bad. Sorry.

I spent a really long time today ranking all the songs, and I'll post that ranking sure, though without my complex reasoning that I spent hours debating in my head some of the places will probably seem off, but if you have never seen the show and are interested this is my second favorite song (my first favorite is absolutely tainted in bias.)

I cannot deny that the outfits in this show are inherently worse than PriPara's, but everything else in the visuals meets or succeeds it's standard. This show can be genuinely beautiful at times. This song, the choreograpy, the Prism Live, whatever the heck is going on with Kouji, it just pulled me in.

Anyway I could talk a ton about Rainbow Live, it's the best show I've ever watched to it's completion. Maybe I'll post more at some point. (I post about KouHiro constantly but I cannot deny that's from more of a King of Prism perspective; I love King of Prism but it's not a show I'd recommend without knowing your tastes first.)

The OP to Princess Sara, the anime adaptation of A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnette, is delightful. Now that I think about it, it's the kind of novel that should lend itself to the anime medium very well.

It's a novel that I enjoyed a lot as a kid, so I'm looking forward to watching the anime! The story also influenced 2 other anime I am very fond of, PriPara (in the character of Hibiki Shikyoin) and Goldfish Warning. Or at least, I think it did. There's no confirmation from the creators that I know of, but there are marked similarities, though each anime adds its own twist (and the characters in question are absolutely nothing like Sara as people).

There's a yuri game based on the novel as well, called A Little Lily Princess, which I just bought today because it's 70% off. I'll play it once I finish the anime!
