its interesting to me where the dividing lines of music cultures are. I feel like classic rock people mingle with the folk rock people mix with the prog rock people and we all more or less speak the same language despite our differences in aesthetic tastes. but then. the grateful dead is like. its own whole thing. a very distinct, very separate, Whole Thing. logically speaking I know I have much in common with your average deadhead, and yet, I have absolutely no idea how to interact with this genre of person. you see I don't think you become a fan naturally. they just spirit away whoever wanders off too far at the music festival and the next time you see them they're wearing a full length tie-dye skirt and selling smoking pipes in the shape of toadstools

#not a drag on them or anything I respect it. it's just like. such a different thing and such a unique cultural phenomena #i have tried to get into them but its just not happening I am not the person getting disappeared in a cloud of patchouli #there are little grateful dead logos printed on my [REDACTED] like yah I bet
