TIME TRAVEL ON THE PRINCESS DANAE...

She was like a time machine. From her rivet studded hull to her flared bow and her graceful, low slung lines, the Princess Danae was a ship where 'less' very much amounted to so much more.

There were no extra charge restaurants, no flow riders, no ice skating rinks or themed bars. No water parks or vast, Vegas style floor shows. And certainly no balcony cabins.

So, what was the 'wow' factor here, then?

It was simple, and in the very best sense of that word. The simple, pared down pleasures of a ship on the sea itself. A comfortable, clubby little cocoon that sidestepped all of the flash, sizzle and frivolity of modern mega ships.

It was fine, if not overly finessed food served up in intimate, old world surroundings. It was the grace and space that actually allowed you to relax, to reconnect with the sea, as opposed to being bounced from one giddy, revenue generating on board diversion to another.

It was magic. A small, beautifully sculpted miracle. A time machine, pristine, proud, and one that is now profoundly mourned...
