Yuriko, Princess Mikasa 1923-2024
Today, we reflect on the life and legacy of Princess Yuriko, a woman who embodied the spirit and resilience of the Japanese royal family. At 101 years old, she was a quiet yet enduring presence within the Imperial household—a sister-in-law to Emperor Showa and a witness to nearly a century of profound transformation in Japan.
Princess Yuriko’s life encompassed the tragedy and recovery of a nation through war and peace, and her graceful resilience mirrored Japan’s own journey. She bore witness to a world profoundly different from the one she was born into, marking her presence with steadfast commitment to tradition while adapting to a rapidly changing Japan. She was both noble in title and spirit, bridging modernity with the rich heritage of Japanese culture.
Her contributions to Japan’s social fabric, through charity work and support for disabled veterans and marginalized communities, demonstrate her empathy and care for the Japanese people.
Today, as we mourn her passing, we also celebrate a life that saw Japan rise, rebuild, and redefine itself. Her legacy is a quiet, dignified strength that will be missed but always remembered. The Japanese Imperial family and Japan at large have lost a remarkable figure, yet her spirit and the example she set will remain a part of the nation's heart.

「Yuki Kajiura LIVE vol.#17~PARADE~」Live Commentary
The final performance of YKL Vol#17 (2022/8/12) will be broadcast on Streaming+ today on November 1st! 『Yuki Kajiura LIVE vol.#17~PARADE~』8/1 Tokyo Nakano Sunplaza Broadcast date/time:November 1 (19:30/20:00) Platform:Streaming+ (Japan only) Yuki Kajiura(Piano/Chorus) Vocal:KAORI・KEIKO・YURIKO KAIDA・Joelle [Guest Vocal] Hanae Tomaru, rito, LINO LEIA [Surprise Guest] Hikaru
As always, I would like to write a little live report as I watch the stream. Will be adding my thoughts about each performance of the setlist below. I am not at all familiar with some of those songs so it’s going to be quite exciting. I am most looking forward to sprinter and the KnY main theme.
1) overture〜Main theme of Kimetsu no Yaiba: Keiko’s KnY medley was SO GOOD when I saw it in Taiwan back in 2019 so I am beyond excited for this!! Goosebumps all over!! The instrumentals alone are worth dying for! Keiko’s chanting is a lot more reminiscent of Chiaki Ishikawa’s style than it was back during YKL #15, it sounds a bit like she is trying to emulate her unique voice but either way, she still absolutely SLAYS. This is so flawless and I can’t believe we now have HQ footage of it. 2) the sea is never without a wave Dayum! What a great transition from the already epic KnY main theme...Never heard this before but wow, instant love. Another epic piece with chanting in Kajiura-go. For anyone who is wondering, it’s from Fena: Pirate Princess. After listening to the first two songs, I think they may have added a little too much background vocals in post production. Don’t get me wrong, it sounds good but it’s a little overbearing and might be drowning out the vocals of our utahimes. I know that during the actual live performances, they usually don’t have such elaborate background vocals, they typically add them for home video releases to enhance the performance but sometimes they can overdo it a bit. 3) vise versa Another song from Fena: Pirate Princess with a very heavy focus on Joelle. Keiko was not on stage for this. It was okay but nothing to write home about. 4) time to sail! The Fena: Pirate Princess theme continues with yet one more epic and triumphant chorus piece. Short but super neat. 5) what she was here for This marks the end of the Fena: Pirate Princess medley. We are back to Joelle on main. Nothing memorable for me. I am sorry to all Joelle fans but I’ve still not quite warmed up to her. 6) それは小さな光のような (Sore wa Chiisana Hikari no you na) A self-cover of the main theme of the populal anime movie “Erased”. It was originally sung by pop singer Sayuri but for this version Keiko is in charge. I think I briefly listened to the original version at one point and didn’t like it at all (wasn’t a fan of the vocals/melody). Keiko’s version sounds completely different and so much better though! She is supported by Kaori and Yuriko. Overall I would say it’s not one of my favourite YK songs though .Ughhh, I really wanted to love it, I don’t know why but the melody doesn’t do much for me. However, I do like that Keiko gets to show off a bit by playing with different styles and registers. 7) fiction Will never like this. 8) 花守の丘 (Hanamori no Oka) An old favourite. Always a pleasure. 9) Lotus More nostalgia. YESSS! Hanae! I love her! Amazing as always. 10) inverse operation We continue with Hanae in the lead. it’s a track from The Case Study of Vanitas. Completely new to me but I like it. I will forever be weak for Hanae’s operatic vocals. 11) le chasseur We are being spoiled. This was lovely. Hanae sounds amazing. Loved those hints of harpsichord (?) in the instrumental parts. 12) 目覚め (Mezame) It’s one of those songs where I don’t miss Wakana’s absence all that much so I can thankfully still enjoy it. Mezame has always been one of my favourite YK songs and so far I have liked all renditions. Hanae is the original singer and her version is perfect. I am also quite fond of Yuriko as lead but of course I will always be a tiny bit partial to Wakana’s version XD 13) もう君のことを見たくない (Mou Kimi no Koto wo Mitakunai) [rito] Awww, rito seems quite nervous. She comes across as extremely young. Couldn’t find anything on her age but she must be quite young and inexperienced. My first impression of the song: I am surprisingly into it. It’s good. A very solid ballad. I really like the melody, it still reminds me of that one time when Kalafina covered Chihiro Onitsuka’s 月光 (Gekkou). At first I wasn’t sure about rito’s vocals but I think I could maybe get used to them. Her voice is not super baby-like which I appreciate. There’s an interesting edge that makes her singing quite emotive/expressive, at least in my opinion. But I can’t say that I love her voice or anything. 14) 8月のオルガン (Hachigatsu no ORGAN) [LINO LEIA] The chorus is super catchy but I still don’t understand how so many fans are comparing her to Wakana. Yes, they use a similar “style” and YK is obviously writing parts for her that are very reminiscent of the ones she would write for Wakana but her voice is quite different. Some are saying she sounds like Yuuka which is more fitting I think but also not quite accurate. Yuuka has a sort of child-like quality to her voice, LINO LEIA’s voice is a bit more mature than that. Neither of them sound as mature, warm and feminine as Wakana though. Anyways, I am still on the fence about her voice, we’ll see if I come to like it eventually. On a side note, I’ve now seen some fans refer to rito as fake-Hikaru and LINO LEIA as fake-Wakana XD 15) elemental Next please. 16) zodiacal sign Solid. Always a pleasure. So much fanservice XD 17) parallel hearts I probably would have disliked this version a lot but since I never cared for the original either, this was simply meh. Nothing good or bad to say about it. Kudos to Joelle for trying her best to lean into the Wakana-singing-style. She did a pretty decent job here. Encore EN 1) overture〜swordland I really love those gorgeous and grand instrumentals with epic chorus work. Makes me look forward to that SAO anniversary event on November 6. EN 2) luminous sword Another old fave. Never gets old. So good! EN 3) sprinter (with Hikaru) Okay, I really didn’t expect to cry because as we all know, I have never been the biggest fan of the normal version of sprinter but damn, this hit me right in the feels. I definitely teared up seeing Hikaru and Keiko on stage like this, having so much fun and singing this song which obviously means so much to them and the audience. *sobs* I loved the higher harmonies added by Yuriko. Joelle’s parts felt out of place to me, especially towards the end. I am so sorry, Joelle, I really don’t mean to bash you all the time! It’s not your fault but here you really have no chance of ever “replacing” Wakana. Not that she is trying to replace her but I guess people know what I mean... EN 4) sweet song This is one of my all-time favourite songs so I am always happy when they sing it. Such a great ending piece to a live.
I really had a lot of fun with most of this, glad I bought a ticket.

365 Marvel Comics Paper Cut-Out SuperHeroes - One Hero, Every Day, All Year…
February 9th - Storm
Ororo Munroe is a powerful Mutant with vast weather-manipulating abilities. She was the daughter of a Kenyan tribal princess and of an American photojournalist who lived in Cairo, Egypt. Tragically, young Ororo was orphaned when an airplane crashed into her home, killing her parents. Forced onto the streets of Cairo, Ororo survuved by becoming an accomplished pickpocket and thief under the tutelage of Achmed El Gibár, who provided her a home.
In her teens, Ororo felt the urge to travel to the south, arriving to the Serengeti Plains. Venerated by the locals as a goddess, Ororo used her Mutant abilities to ease the droughts in the arid desert.
She was later approached out by Professor Xavier who asked her to join his X-Men, a Mutant group that sought out peace between humans and Mutants. Ororo accepted the offer, intrigued by the prospect of adventure and curious to understand the origins and potential of her powers. As a new member of Xavier’s team of X-Men, Ororo chose the alias of ‘Storm.’
After serving with the team for some time, Storm was appointed the leader of the team following the departure of its former field leader, Cyclops. Storm was initially unsure about her new role, but, with the support of her teammates, she soon became a highly capable leader. Although she got along with all of her teammates, Ororo was especially close with young Kitty Pryde.
On one of the team’s adventures the X-Men encountered the underground community of Mutants, known as the Morlocks, who had kidnapped the X-Man, Angel. In order to save her friend, Storm challenged the Morlock leader, Callisto, to a duel and bested her in hand-to-hand combat. As a result, Storm became leader of the Morlocks and she ordered them to cease their hostilities against the surface-dwelling humans. Storm befriended the adventurer, Yuriko, during a mission that brought the team to Japan. She was quite taken by the young woman’s free spirit and the sense of liberty she had in expressing herself. Motivated by this, Storm changed her look, trading her costume for a leather jacket and pants and cutting her hair into a mohawk.
Some time later, Storm temporarily lost her Mutant abilities after being struck by a power-nullification ray designed by the master weapons-smith known as Forge. Storm had a very difficult time learning to cope without her powers. Yet she persevered and continued to prove a more than capable leader to the X-men, even without the use of her weather-manipulating powers. Forge later created a device to return these powers so that Storm could aide him in defeating the demonic being known as The Adversary. Following the adventure, Storm led a new, streamlined version of the X-Men stationed in the deserted outback of rural Australia.
Some time later, Storm was de-aged and stripped of her memories by the powerful android known as Nanny. She ended up in the care of the Mutant thief named Gambit and together that pulled a number of heists whilst avoiding the villainous telepath called The Shadow King.
Storm ultimately regained her memories and was restored to her normal age. As thanks for his assistance, Gambit was offered a position with the X-Men (even though few besides Storm trusted him). Storm would go on to have numerous adventures, splitting leadership duties of the team with Cyclops with his leading one squad and she the other.
During the course of her adventures, Storm met King T’Chala, The Black Panther and ruler of the African nation of Wakanda. The two fell in love and, following a long courtship, the pair were married. Unfortunately, tensions rising from T’Challa’s duties as king and the burgeoning conflict between The X-Men and Avengers, took its tole on their relationship and their marriage was ultimately annulled by way of royal proclamation.
Despite the past friction between the two teams, Storm went on to act as a member of The Avengers for a brief stint. In the wake of the Infinity and Secret Wars events, Storm led a new team of X-Men who sought out and offered refuge to Mutants endangered by the Terrigen Cloud which had proven deadly to Mutantkind. The cloud was destroyed at the culmination of the X-Men/Inhumans war, after which Storm helped in the foundation of the Mutant nation on the island of Krakoa
Storm returned to Wakanda to aide Shuri and Mother Ramonda in defending the homeland during the conflict with the so-called Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda. After this, Storm was drafted into the contest of Saturnyne wherein champions from Krakoa and Arakko were pitted against each other for the fate of the Earth. With the use of the sacred sword, Skybreaker, Storm was able to succeed in the battle and managed a victory that saved both the peoples of Krakoa and Arakko. Storm has continued on as a member of the X-Men and has recently rekindled her romance with T’Challa.
Actresses Haley Berry and Alexandra Shipp portrayed Storm in the various Fox Films X-Men movies. The heroine first appeared in the pages of Giant-Size X-Men #1 (1975).
