We get some more on what happened when Hudson was leader and are getting to see just how he feels about failing to save someone. Princess Katharine is just an external manifestation on how Hudson feels about himself and how he would feel about letting Goliath die. Once again even he is hoping to save someone he believes the youth have put the trust of their care into. He's not just saving Prince Malcolm for Prince Malcolm or the agreement between their people, but also Princess Katharine. To save Goliath is also to save Brooklyn, Broadway, Lexington, and Bronx. To fail Goliath, is to fail all of them too.

Of course Princess Katharine misses the entire exchange despite all sorts of blasts and yelling happening right outside her room with an open balcony door. She comes out to see what's taking so long and sees a "scary gargoyle" hovering over her father who is clearly injured in some way, and she assumes it was him. I think before long she'll realize that it wasn't Hudson, but it's too late; she blames him nonetheless. It will just go from 'you hurt him' to 'you didn't protect him.' And that's his job.

But also also, she's a kid, and her dad just told her to behave or bad things will happen. And then a bad thing happened.

Poor Hudson. This man certainly doesn't seem to deserve living only because Hudson would be willing to die for him. But presumably, their partnership is between Hudson (current leader of the clan) and Prince Malcolm, and therefore, for the sake of his clan, he must protect the human who has promised to keep their agreement.
