Frampt can't stand Seath, Shira and Priscilla are both descended from Seath, Shira has some family resemblance to Gwynevere, Yorshka looks quite a bit like Shira and has physical features indicating her to be descended from Seath, "maiden of Gwynevere" might actually mean "female descendent" (not sure on this one, haven't read the original Japanese), Lothric was produced by "unspeakable means" through Oceiros' identification with Seath, Gwyndolin, despite having very easy access to Seath's sorceries and using Logan sorceries quite proficiently, never touched Crystal Sorcery in his life, Seath spent an inordinate amount of time torturing the Maidens of Gwynevere, the "Power of the Moon" might actually refer to the Moonlight Greatsword, thus being related to dragons, snakes are imperfect dragons, a massive taboo around Seath and Seath Worship is maintained through the series, the only named characters Seath abducts (Reah, Dusk, and Sieglinde) are women, the Queen of Lothric left Oceiros after giving birth to Ocelotte (a "child of dragons, who looks a bit like Priscilla"), we still don't know how Yorshka is descended from both Gwyn and Seath, and Yorshka seems to have relied on similar invisible bridges to guide people to her tower to what you find in the Crystal Cave.
I feel like I am going insane.

one thing that i find interesting is that even though we never get to interact with Marika directly, only knowing her via obscure cutscenes and other characters' dialogue... she actually displays a wide range of emotions as much as any other NPCs.
her statues depict her as having a warm, gentle smile:
Tumblr media
the Mimic veil description points to her playful, mischievous side:
Tumblr media
(it's a popular theory in the JP/Asian side of the fandom that it's sth from her childhood - hence the "Marika's Mischief", not "Queen Marika's", and she used it to escape the grisly fate befalling her family.
additionally, its equivalence in Dark Souls is also something described as "the mischief of a young girl who sought relief from the solitude of the woods at dusk", aka Princess Dusk who hails from "Oolacile, land of ancient golden sorceries", but i digress)
her portrait, the story trailer's "Queen Marika was driven to the brink" and Gideon's dialogue after the player defeated Malenia pointed out her sorrow:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(back when i first played the base game, this is the portrait that drove my eyes most in Roundtable Hold. i kept gazing at her - the Queen with permanently lowered eyes, and thought "there is a girl in there")
The bat lady's song, Messmer's entire Crusade, all those conflicts to establish the Erdtree, shows her anger, and the cruelty she's capable of:
Tumblr media
Then there's Shaman's village, the clinic underneath Shadow Keep, the golden braid, the Minor Erdtree, the sealing of Death - that points to grief, trauma, survivor guilt, kindness, and the ruinous drive for revenge that results in the above path down hell:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(there's also a theory for the Crusade's headless statue being a reminder for the Hornsent of what they put Marika's mother through, but it's not concrete canon so here is the link if you want to check it out)
The fact that all of Erdtree's incantations are heal and protection spells (with only one exception of Wrath of Gold spell which was found after the Elden Ring was shattered), the Capitol's Perfumers originally being blessed healers, and that all Erdtree blessings come in the shape of tears give the picture of Marika's gentle wish at the beginning: to heal everything and everyone.
(and to me personally, there's a kind of vulnerability and honesty in showing your tears to the world and let it be your power to heal at the same time.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the eye she blessed Messmer with (i do think the Eng translation at some part lost the sentiment of the JP text - that the eye is always referred to as a blessing)
the blessing flask that - unlike its Dark Souls equivalent (which ranges from 6-13 flasks), only have 4 available to us player, heal all ailments and status effect, and specified as sth made for Messmer.
the Marika's soreseal in the Haligtree + the waterfall near Godwyn's final resting place
the Regal Omen Bairn (that was fashioned after the Jizo statue - sth made by grieving parents wishing for protection for their deceased child in the afterlife)
the blessing, gifts, equipment that Messmer and Godwyn's personal knights all get
the fact that Marika's bedchamber and the Impaler's Catacomb (which is the only catacomb in the base game to have the spike trap mechanic used in catacombs in the DLC) remain the proof of Messmer's existence in the base game
how Godwyn's ending is the only ending where the mending rune is placed on the position of Marika's womb (the lower arc or the Elden Ring - also referred to as the basin in which its blessings pool)
that's a whole barrage of motherhood. the love, the fear, the postpartum depression, the guilt and anxiety, (the occasional scheming for revenge with her son). and despite how flawed and tragic that love ends up being for all of them, it is there.
Tumblr media
(there's a whole subplot about how Messmer is the only demigod to be called ugly in-game (Hornsent npc dialogue) while Boc's questline is about how his mother being the only one to always assure him he's beautiful, despite everyone else calling him ugly. and how each NPCs questline does reflect a wider theme seen in Marika and her children. but again, i digress)
every time i think of her, Marika is a constantly shifting kaleidoscope, holding everything from within (the beauty and the malign, light and dark, birth and death, she's warm and gentle, she's cruel and unjust, she's strong and kind, she's weak and resentful, she's sweet and she's bitterness made flesh)... and i could only stand there and admire it all.

When Oscar was still a Child, his Parents used to tell him a Story before he goes to Sleep about how Knight named Artorias saving a Princess named Dusk from an Evil Dark Sorceror, which never happened but Most People in Astora never knew the Full Story of what Happened in Oolacile, but even if they did, they could never tell the Young Noble
(i still think knight artorias might have been oscar's childhood hero and maybe an inspiration to become one of, if not, the most noble elite knight of astora...)

SPIRIT TREE AND ERDTREE MOTIF PARALLELS
Alright, I want to talk about the Spirit Tree Motif that has been rather subtly carried through Dark Souls and has now seemingly manifested as a very integral theme in Elden Ring. It seems to me that this has been a theme that has been rattling around in Miyazaki's head for quite some time.
First of all, I'm fairly convinced that the spirit trees and the white trees that appear in Dark Souls are the same thing. Or at the very least the white tree saplings that we come across in DS2 and DS3 are decendents of the Spirit Trees that are referenced in the enchanted Spirit Tree Shields that can be found in DS2 and DS3. It may be worth noting that the tree that appears on the Spirit Tree Shields is a golden tree which feels a bit too on the nose.
Now, the white trees we know to be linked to Oolacile with their branches being used as catalysts for light based "golden sorceries"—which I can't help but visually link to the Erdtree and some of the apparent sorceries we see in the Elden Ring trailer. The Oolacile Ivory Catalyst from DS1 was essentially a branch from a white tree and likewise a catalyst used by Princess Dusk whose crown we find at the foot of a white tree in Farron Keep (which we know to formerly be Oolacile) in DS3. Can't ask for a more direct link than that. If that doesn't have you convinced, the Oolacile Ivory Catalyst description notes that it is made from "whitebark" branches which I'm just going to go ahead and assume is a colloquial term for the white trees/spirit trees that we come across. What I also find interesting is that golden sorceries are associated with spells like like Chameleon and Hidden Body and the Young White Branch is basically a consumable Oolacile Ivory Catalyst that casts Chameleon—which is a trait somewhat shared by the Erdtree as a "spectral tree". One can infer that maybe the white trees have retained magical qualities from the original (golden?) spirit tree we see depicted on the Spirit Tree Shields. That is if they themselves aren't spirit trees. Either way I would very much like to see the return of the white trees themselves, but I think Miyazaki has finally given us the mother of all Spirit Trees in the Erdtree.
Of course, the idea of magical trees and "spirit trees" has existed in mythology for millennia. The Erdtree that we see in Elden Ring is almost certainly based on the Yggdrasil tree from norse mythology. But based on the references that Miyazaki has dropped over the course of a decade, I'm fairly confident that the established lore of the white trees/spirit trees played a significant role in the conception of the Erdtree. What has me more convinced than anything is that the spirit tree is a motif that rather prominently makes its way to DS2 of all places, which means Miyazaki (while not directly involved with DS2) must have portrayed the spirit tree as pretty important to those that were involved. Then in DS3, with Miyazaki back in the drivers seat, the spirit tree/white tree lore was more concretely established—maybe in anticipation of Elden Ring or just as a way to toy with the idea.
Regardless, I would very much like to see the Spirit Tree Shield make a reappearance as I've come to adopted it as a little bit of a personal coat of arms across souls titles.

Besides going to Lordran to know if he truly is the Chosen Undead, Oscar thought that he needed to see the Grave of Sir Artorias himself after he learned at some point that his childhood tale about a Wolf Knight saving the Kingdom, Oolacile and their Princess, Dusk, from an Evil Wizard, Manus, is a lie.
He would then collapsed in front of a large tombstone when he found it somewhere in Dark Root Garden.

Ladies, if your man:
-rang the two bells of awakening
-acquired the lord vessel
-defeated the 4 lords and stole their lord souls
-saved princess Dusk of Oolacile
-Traveled back in time to the lost land of oolacile to defeat Artorias, Manus, and Kalameet
-and defeated Lord Gwyn.
He’s not your man, he’s the chosen undead and you need to help him decide if he should kindle the first flame or become the lord of darkness and bring about the age of man.

DARK SOULS STATUE: ARTORIAS GRAND SCALE BUST
First4Figures First 4 Figures is proud to present the highly anticipated Dark Souls – Artorias the Abysswalker Bust Statue ”Thou shalt see further on, an Abyss was begat of the ancient beast and threatens to swallow the whole of Oolacile. Knight Artorias came to stop this, but such a hero has nary a murmur of Dark. Without doubt, he will be swallowed by the Abyss, overcome by its utter blackness... Indeed, the Abyss may be unstoppable...” - Elizabeth, Dark Souls SirArtoriaswas one of the Four Knights of Gwyn, Lord of Cinder. He wore a royal blue armor set and wielded hisGreatswordandGreatshield with vigor. Sif, the Great Grey Wolf was his beloved companion, now the guardian of his grave and keeper of the Covenant of Artorias ring. Artorias was able to traverse the Abyss with the power of his ring, which he procured after creating a covenant with the realm’s beasts, preventing him from being swallowed by the void but cursing his Greatsword in the process. When Oolacile was under siege by Manus, Father of the Abyss, Artorias, and his wolf companion arrived in an attempt to save the town and rescue the abducted Princess Dusk; unfortunately, the two were overwhelmed, and Artorias sacrificed himself to protect Sif, using his Cleansing Greatshield to erect a barrier around the young wolf. Consumed by the Dark, he suffered the corruption and forever remains as the Abysswalker.
