Family Planning - Sidon x reader (18+)
“Possibly NSFW, but could keep it SFW if you wanted! How do you think Sidon/Bazz would behave during a period of time of trying for a baby with y/n? Do you think Zora get more protective and primal over a mate during that time? Would they go into a heat? I can just imagine them pacing outside the bathroom while y/n takes another pregnancy test lol” - @rocklover719
slightly nsfw, so marking this one as 18+, just incase
i tried to write this one as gender neutral as possible, but.... babies come from somewhere, ya know?
i had a TIME writing this one, i tell ya! but OH MY GOD THE FEELS!!!!!!
i hope you enjoy <3
(Bazz will be posted here)
y/n - your name
“That was fun…”
there you lie
on the bed next to Sidon
you’re both panting
smiles painted on your faces
you giggle breathily at Sidon’s comment
he’s taken your breath away
quite literally
you’d both been trying to conceive for a couple months
as you’d discussed it HUNDREDS of times throughout your relationship
you’d both been tracking your cycle to the max
and most of all
you’re having fun
“Can we do that again?”
“Absolutely!”
it’s hard for him to get out of his princely duties
let alone for something secretive
because he isn’t telling ANYONE about this
but he ends up being able to take a few days off each month, claiming it as ‘quality family time’
no one has to know that you’re ovulating
and if he absolutely HAS to go to a meeting during one of those days
you’re coming with him
he’s become so protective of you
and he has to know where you are during that short time of ovulation
it’s almost as if he goes into a small rut each month, as he can smell it on you
“After this meeting… I need us to get home as quickly as possible.”
he’s nothing but persistent on starting a family with you
and you want that
you’re taking pregnancy tests whenever it feels needed
and they’ve all been negative so far
you start to feel a little discouraged
“Oh, my sweet pearl. I can promise you it will happen. Don’t let this negative test bring down your mood.”
he’s so good at cheering you up
a month or so later, you start feeling a couple of pregnancy symptoms
Sidon’s getting ready for the day, as he has so many things to do
“Sidon? Umm… could you stay with me for a bit?”
and he gives you a concerned look
“It’s just… I’m not feeling the best right now, and I think… umm…”
“What is it, y/n?”
“I think I should take another test.”
he’s slightly in shock
“Of course I can stay for a bit. Do you think I’d be able to sit though a meeting knowing you’re here with a secret?”
he’s just outside, pacing back and forth in front of the door
and you pull him in once you’re ready
he waits with you
and he has nothing but positive things to say
“And even if this one ends up being negative, we can always try again.”
and you look at the test
“I don’t think we’ll need to this time.”
“Wait… what?”
you hand him the test
positive
and he immediately starts crying once he realizes that it is indeed a positive test
he pulls you into his arms
the both of you sobbing tears of joy
he’s always wanted this
but he never imagined how good it would feel to know he’s becoming a father
he pulls away to look at you, his beautiful y/n
“I hope you know I’m staying with you for the rest of the day now.”

Made the mistake of replaying BOTW and my god I am FERAL over prince Sidon I want this mans children
I don’t care if he has sharp teeth, I’m riding his face anyway
I would give obnoxious amounts of money to be his Hylian bride
prrr!!! Sidon my love!!! his titties......his smile.......he is the whole package. AND BABY SIDON-
like you cannot tell me Sidon wouldn't be the best shark papa nor that he wouldn't want enough babies to fill the whole domain. like imagine Zelda showing him a photo she took of his young self from 100 years ago and Sidon just feeling something tighten and snap inside him--sure, of course he's seen Zora babies and children running around the domain, but if that's how cute he was as a child he can only imagine how adorable his babies with you would be. especially if you're a Hylian or an otherwise non-Zora, because then it would be so obvious to everyone else that his royal children are yours! sweet and small and mostly Zora-like, but with those distinct features that etch your influence into their very being. the world will change and the water may run new courses, but his sons and daughters will always have you and him as their parents.
plus, having a Hylian bride would ensure that he won't have to worry nearly as much about you wandering off or getting into trouble in the water; even if you're a strong swimmer, the currents downriver of the domain are too dangerous for you and you'll have to stick to the reservoir if you want to do any swimming. unless, of course, you're riding on Sidon's back--which you might feel guilty about asking for so much, but he couldn't be happier to do it and take you wherever you want to go. if you get ambushed by monsters or Yiga, he'll have the chance to show off how strong he is! and you'll know you picked the perfect man to protect you and your future/current family. Zora are all about those intricate displays of strength, gifts, or aggression to woo their mates after all, and though it feels a bit brutish Sidon's definitely the best at aggression. including those other areas of romance that he can't wait to explore with you....if you haven't bedded a Zora before, you certainly aren't going to want anything else once he's done with you, he can promise you that.

Sidon from BOTW please?
(Including TOTK for my own convenience and the visual difference is minimal enough)
A literal ride-or-die homie. Prince and later king of the Zoras. Champion with water powers and a magic rock, how original. Wholeheartedly believes in Link’s capabilities, even when many of his people hold Link responsible for the death of Sidon’s sister. His true greatest ability is being a ray of sunshine :)
Also a big boy
Reminder, the premise is “would a normie think it’s weird to find them attractive?” (Would they have to “hear me out?”)

His Little Grace
Prince Sidon x Hylian hyperfem! reader
Fic description: As Ganon’s minions infiltrate the Zora Domain, you, a weary, small, gentle traveler, are caught in a rut, on the brink of death, not being able to face creatures corrupted by the calamity on your own. The kind prince of Zora, Sidon, accompanies you, protecting you from the monsters. The two of you eventually are drawn into something more…
Tw: 18+ MINORS DNI, shark anatomy, omegaverse biology, breeding kink, sub-coded/super bottom hyperfeminine reader, SIZE kink, kind of non-canon breath of the wild, protective sidon, damsel in distress trope, rough sex, shark love bites, some sidon x link as well, pls reblog and help a writer out!!
Omegaverse rules:
https://www.wattpad.com/amp/706590591
It was a rainy morning in the Zora Domain, 7 o’clock to be exact. The rain battered alongside the icy pathways, the waves crashed below. The King, Dorephan, sat on his throne, concerned due to the noises heard outside the domain. The King has summoned some of his attendants and soldiers, including Link, the Hylian Champion. The King voiced his concerns to the group, saying that the noises sound like an attack on the kingdom; possibly Vah Ruta and guardians back under Ganon’s control. Link volunteers to go inspect the area outside the domain, in Upland Zorana. Sidon burst through the archway.
Father! What horrible news! I have heard that Ganon is possibly attacking the kingdom again! It is preposterous! Let me know what I can do to protect the kingdom!,” the shark smiles, winking and flexing his bicep, his signature look. “My son. Perhaps you can swim down the river, and see what is in the Lananryu Wetlands, closer to Central Hyrule, near the entrance to our domain,” the King suggests. “Of course,” Sidon agrees, and bids a goodbye to Link, whom he did have relations with. Sidon would never admit due to his pride, that he had a soft spot for Hylians. They were so tiny, so soft. The opposite of him. Link was his best friend, and sometimes lover. Link was a beta, however. Sidon, as an alpha, really yearned for a Hylian that was an omega. He wanted to feel one, experience being with one. As biology said, alphas and omegas were made for each other, regardless of race in Hyrule. Same or interspecies, it did not matter. Yet, Sidon failed to find a female, omega, counterpart to his sweet Link’s beauty.
He waved to Link, telling him to be safe, before watching him use Revali’s Gale to fly up into Upland Zorana. Sidon swam down the river, watching as electric Lizalfos, electric chu-chus, and golden bokoblins prowled around the plains, at the side of the river. “So many monsters…,” he thought to himself, swimming faster, hoping not to run into them. He swam to the bridge at the outskirts of Tabahl Woods. He saw a crowd of Black moblins, shrieking, with Dragonbone weapons, attacking something on the ground. He looked a little closely, barely visible to the monsters. He saw that they were attacking a Hylian. A very small one at that. He growled, jumping onto the bridge, facing the moblins, and took a few of them out swiftly, using his muscles and sharp teeth.
After throwing the last moblin down into the waterfall, Sidon comes closer to inspect the Hylain, to see if they were okay. A sickeningly sweet smell has hit him. He crouched down, taking a closer look. A very small Hylian woman, laying on the bridge, gravely wounded. Her blood, her body, smelled so good to him… could it be? An omega?
He stops his dirty mind from trampling him, and gently picks up the Hylian. Placing her in his arms, he swims up the river as fast as he could, eager to get her into the domain, so she could be properly healed and taken care of.
He reaches the domain, swimming up the waterfall, careful not to drown the woman. “Somebody! Please help! I have found an injured Hylian!!,” he shouts, and at instant, a few other Zora take her away to heal with herbs, in the lower chambers of the kingdom. Sidon meets back with Link, glad that he is okay, giving him a few kisses as well.
“My Link. I think I have found an omega. What should I do?! I am a bit worried!!,” Sidon shouts at him, the little man looking at the shark with a smirk.
“See if the chemistry is right, when she wakes up. If it is, perhaps then you could mate with her, for real, unlike you and I,” Link sheepishly tells him.
“Yes! Link! You are amazing! A genius! An absolute marvel!!,” Sidon shouts at him, giving Link his signature smirk and wink, and hugging him before running off to check on the Hylian he just rescued.
“My dear. Are you okay?,” he leans over the woman, his large shadow covering her small one. She moans in pain, looking up at him. “I think I’m okay now, yes. Who are you?,” her voice was small and shy, quiet. She meekly looked at him with her beautiful green eyes. Sidon blushed, loving how soft her voice was.
“Quickly, young one. Tell me your name.” The woman tells him. “Lily.” “Ah. What a beautiful name that is. I am Sidon, Prince of the Zora. I was making my round down the Zora River, when I saw you being beaten by monsters on Inogo Bridge!!,” he exclaimed, clearly worried for the young woman.
“I should have been more careful,” the woman replied, slightly blushing.
——-
You had been beaten by Moblins, and were about to meet your end, when you feltl a strong presence lift you up, carrying you up the Zora River, up a waterfall. You did not know who that was, yet you were extremely grateful. You awoke to a beautiful Zorana leaning over you. His smile, his voice, his muscles. You loved it.
Best of all, it seemed like he was an alpha. You could tell right away. This is who you had been searching for.
You had been born in a Hylian village off the coast, Luteno Village, full of Betas. The only other Alpha in the village was already mated — to a Beta. They did not have heats, ruts, pheromones. Sometimes, you wished to be one of them. Oh how easier it would be. Omegas were weaker than most, softer. This did not do you any good, especially in the calamity — so many monsters around. What options did you have?
Therefore, you left your small, coastal fishing village in hopes of finding a mate, a lover. You traveled up the Zora River, into Shatterback Point, up mountains, in the rain, in a thunderstorm. The time could have finally come. You were positive that whoever saved you, this ‘Prince Sidon’, was an Alpha. Further, he was royalty.
The size difference between you two was massive. You nervously watched as his clawed hand rested near your body. His palm was the size of your entire arm.
“My dear. Are you alright? You look positively out of it,” the handsome prince spoke to you. You replied that you were, which then coincided with him asking what you were doing in the area.
“Well, you see, Prince Sidon, I came here to find a mate. In Luteno Village, most of the people are Betas — normal. I’m a little helpless on my own, you see, with the calamity and all. I’m not strong enough to fight these monsters. I don’t even think that Omegas and Alphas are common in all of the kingdom of Hyrule…,” you trail off, a bit sad.
The shark grinned back at you, with a knowing yet gentle smile. “My dear. You see, they aren’t that common in the land of Zora either. Alpha and Omega pairs used to be more common before the calamity. All of our Zorai, they are mated pairs, since we usually have very long life spans. Except for me, of course.”
You nod, starting to realize what he was implying. You were sure that he was able to sense the tension between you. You had read, in an old book your grandmother owned, written before the calamity, that just each other’s presence can indicate true love between an Alpha and Omega. You hoped that your late grandmother’s book was right.
“Lily. I want to ask you something, sweet pearl,” Sidon starts. Perhaps, once you feel better, I can show you around the village?,” his yellow eyes look hopeful, bashful, even. A prince, paying attention to you. You were over the moon, and so, you obliged.
—-
Just in a few days, the Zora had healed you. You spent more and more time with the Prince every day, whom you now called Sidon. After a week, Sidon had asked you to accompany him for a nightly swim. The two of you had started doing that ever since you had healed.
You loved how fast he was in the water, how gentle he was with you on his back. Most of all, you loved how big he was. <3
Sidon took you into the lake next to the domain, and up the Veiled Falls. The two of you sat on the luminous stone filled dock, tension between the two of you rising. Sidon tapped his sharp nails upon the dock, nervous on what to say.
“What is it?,” you asked, putting a concerned hand on his shoulder, which made him flinch. “My Pearl. Lily. I have gotten to know you over the past week or so. You are truly amazing! I have never met a Hylian such as yourself before! This is a personal question to ask..yet.. are you possibly looking for something more than safety , here in the Zora Domain?”
You wince, deciding to tell him the truth. “I came here to look for a mate, Sidon. I’m an omega. They aren’t very common after the calamity,” you look down as you say it. Perhaps he has an arranged marriage already.
“My Lily. I am so glad to hear you say that!” He looked enthusiastic suddenly. “You see, I am one of the only other Alphas in this town myself! Everyone else is male or female, just a Beta. You are right, sweet Pearl! How clever you are,” he praises you.
You blush as he compliments you. He moves a bit closer to you. His clawed hand gently holds your head. “You and I, my pearl. I think you’re the most adorable little Hylian I’ve ever seen. The fact that you’re an omega — that is just even more precious and intriguing to me. Be my mate, sweet pearl,” he gently asks of you, yellow eyes full of passion.
You agree, giggling as he brings you in for a kiss. He was gentle with you, although you could feel his sharp teeth grazing your lips. You kiss him back with passion, you feel your lip start to bleed because of his sharp teeth. The two of you are inextricably close now, and his two hands easily grip your hips, almost as long as your whole torso. He gently moves you closer to him, although you can feel his sharp claws pierce your soft tummy.
His smell, his lips, his eyes, all of it was intoxicating. In your grandmother’s book, you have read that those with ‘sexual variance’ (gender classified as omega or alpha — instead of male or female (what Betas had) have greater chances for passionate and intricate sexual and romantic relations. It was biology, after all.
You press your smaller body closer to him, your softness against his rougher skin. You traced your small hands over his torso, his wide shoulders <3 as you could feel him moan into your mouth. He pulls away for a second, manhandling you onto his lap, where you felt a rather big bulge forming already..<3
“You know, sweet one…I have always hoped to find someone with sexual variance… a little omega I could have all for myself, to love, to breed…,” his voice seemed much lower now, you swore you could hear a growl behind it. “Make me yours then,” you softly reply back, gazing into his yellow eyes.
He smirks, and then uses those strong muscles of his to pin you onto the ground. A trail of wet kisses is left all over your face, your neck, your breasts, which he cups so gently, mindful of his claws, your hips. He asks if he can take off your clothes. You nod, and he does so, careful not to rip them with his claws.
“My little grace smells so good for me,” he chuckles darkly. “That’s all you wanted, hmm? A strong alpha to come breed you, claim you…,” he whispers, his sharp teeth grazing your lips. You nod. “Please, Sidon. Want it, please…,” you beg him, doe eyes meeting his.
“You know, my little love…Zora actually have two cocks. I wonder how they’ll fit inside my Pearl…,” he chuckles, bringing you in for another kiss. There you were, caged in his arms, your small hands around his large, bulging biceps, and you can feel him start to grind into you for a bit, before his cocks spring up, all hard, veiny. You almost drool, yet you stop yourself.
You have read in your grandmother’s book that alphas have bigger cocks than betas, than omegas. They have superior strength too…
You stare in awe as the Zora runs his clawed hand over his cocks, over his ball sack, all full and ready to burst!! “Sidon. Please, want it in me,” you beg of him, pathetically reaching up to him like a little girl would to her father.
“I’ll give you anything you ask for, little Pearl. So sweet…,” he moans, and with that, you see him gently line up his two cocks to your already soaking, wet, pussy. You wonder how his sharp teeth would feel on it … <3
“Sidon. I’ve never.. never had this before…,” you tell him shyly. He reassures you with a few kisses. “I will be gentle, little love. You will get used to it, you will want more. Don’t know how long I have been waiting for an omega, all to myself,” his grin showcased his row of sharp teeth, scaring and making you want him more at the same time.
You were ready. He gently began to push his pulsating cocks into you. The stretch hurt, yet since you were wet, you were ready for him. You could take it. He pushed in little by little, and the deeper he went, the more delirious you got. His cocks just stuffed you up so perfectly!! <3
Your eyes met his, your soft hands ran alongside his cheeks, his fins on his head. He has you in a mating press, and you could swear you were seeing doubles from how nicely his cocks filled you. Your eyes began to roll back into your head, as you drift away from the world, and solely focused on the moment: him.
“My sweet Pearl. Doing so well, my love. Taking these big cocks so nicely, can’t wait to breed you, my Pearl, have you carry my heir…,” he moaned out, just as delirious as you were. You were his prey, to be caught, bred, owned by him!! “Please, my prince, Sidon, please!!,” you squealed, eager to agree to everything he was saying, due to how earth shatteringly amazing you felt right now.
“Mate me. Claim me. Please, sir,” you beg him, a moment of clarity in your delirium. He smirks in response, giving you a little (sharp) love bite on your shoulder. “My pleasure, my little love.”
He starts rutting into you, faster, your little body shakes and you have to hold onto him as tightly as you could muster, burying yourself in the crook of his neck. You see stars, with his throbbing cocks inside you, you’ve never felt something be so right. You feel them twitch, and with screams from the both of you, you come at the same time.
You feel his hot seed spill into you, filling you.
You fall asleep in his arms after a bit of cuddling, and he gently takes you back to the Domain, to the palace, into his private chambers. You were his now. His mate, his little grace.
Author's note: Enjoy everyone! Let me know if I should make a part two, or maybe a sidlink fic!! Pls reblog and help a writer out!! <3

Splash Fruit - Sidon x Reader
Just a quick drabble regarding our favourite fish boy! Trying to include other characters in my stories besides just Rauru brain rot, and Sidon is just the cutest sometimes >_< I did proof read, but I have been drinking so please forgive that lmao Also shameless plug for my LoZ fanfiction/art/ fandom server! Feel free to stop by~ https://discord.gg/H8Y4R4fTBj Enjoy!
Word Count: 520 words -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Like this?”
You were uncertain as you inquired, thumb pressing into the bottom half of the blue-speckled fruit. Sidon chuckled softly when you struggled to apply enough pressure to complete the action, his own splash fruit nestled between his thumb and fore finger. “Minnow, you have to really push, or else it won’t work properly!”
He was oddly enthusiastic for what was akin to a child’s water toy as he explained to you, but you followed his instructions anyways, determined to at least prove you can do it. Your effects paid off when your thumb and the fruit’s peel effectively caved in, and an echoic *pop* coming from the top of the fruit; you jumped, not expecting it to be so loud. Basking in the glory of accomplishment, you smiled from ear to ear. After a moment of silence, your gaze followed the supposed trajectory of the watery liquid that splashed from the top but when your sight levelled, you were left staring at your boyfriend, hands up to his face, wiping and letting out a sputtered breath. There was a moment of panic, as you dropped the fruit and rushed over, frantically apologizing. “Sidon! I’m sorry! I-I didn’t realize it was going to-”;
Cold and wet made contact with you before you even got to finish, and your hands went up in defence, although not proving effective as the top half of your outfit became damp, all the while you were patting at your eyes to clear the blurry vision. Sidon raised the back of his hand to his mouth as he laughed with a juvenile arrogance and once you recovered, you gave him a look of loving annoyance, which then only amplified his laughter, nearly doubling over in front of you. You placed a soft, teasing slap to his arm, one that he ignored completely as you told him that he could have at least waited until you were prepared. He wiped a tear form his eye, struggling to breathe properly as he spoke, “P-Please! It was just the perfect opportunity for payback! The look on your face- it was cute!”
Another small swat made contact with his arm, only this time out of embarrassment. He reassured you it was a harmless retaliation, bringing his hand up to your face, wiping the remnants of sweet, sticky juice from your cheek; he gave a playful smile as he brought his thumb to his lips, giving a soft lick to the pad.
“Sweeter than ever~”, he teased, leaning down to place a kiss on your forehead, before leaning further to catch your lips - you pulled away from him, popping your untouched lips together with a grin.
If he wanted to play games, then he would get games, you thought as you flashed him another fruit tight in your grasp, the playful glint in your eye making him look at you with confused rejection. “If the prince wants a kiss, he’ll have to catch me first~”, and you were off.
He let out a stunned groan as he watched you run down the stairs of the domain. He followed you though.

Can I request a Sidon x reader headcanon with a hylian reader who has large breasts? And Sidon is like ?!🤩 since he’s never seen a hylian naked and Zora woman don’t have large breasts or nipples? Thank you!
This is a GOOD POINT
He’s fascinated. Zoras have some sexual dimorphism, but not as much as hylians. Sidon is much more used to women who, while generally smaller and sleeker and shaped a bit differently than him, are much more similar to himself—and that includes the torso area. While some zoras have a chest that appears more pronounced, none of them have breasts…because why would they? Their young are fed in much different manners, with minnows and other small fish, and they certainly don’t need the breast. Sidon knew that hylians were different in that regard, but before he had seen you with your shirt off, he hadn’t given it much thought; he’d assumed that hylians had something that sloped a bit gentler, or was bit more uniform in shape.
He certainly hadn’t expected you to be so soft there, or to encourage him to explore your flesh with his hands and even his tongue. He was shocked to find that your breasts were so sensitive, especially those things you called nipples. So sensitive, in fact, that what began as simple exploration quickly turned into something steamier, and the Zora prince found himself beneath you, enjoying the view as you bounced atop him, his large, clawed hands each squeezing a breast as he marveled at the feeling of them there. Your body was far different from a zora’s…but he found that with every new discovery, he was loving it more and more.

Can I ask your top 10 fav fics ever (from any fandom, if you don't mind)?
Also, just curious, is there a story behind your name "metalandmagi "?
Haha so the thing about me and fanfic is....for a long time I didn't have an AO3 account, so I didn't have a way to save fics for many years. When I did finally get one, I'd forget to bookmark or keep track of fics I like, and I have the memory of a goldfish that keeps me from remembering some of my faves. So I'll just put in 10 that I do have bookmarked in no particular order😅 (so most of these are Captive Prince related).
As for my name...well...I first made it when I was getting a Twitch account. I wanted it to be metal and magic (as a reference to Undertale), but idk if it was to long or something, because Twitch would only let me type as far as metalandmagi, which I thought was fine too, so I just went with that.
Kind of a cop out, but all of flightinflame's daemonverse fics for Captive Prince are fantastic! https://archiveofourown.org/users/flightinflame/pseuds/flightinflame
Even in Another Time by plegmatic is another great Captive Prince fic with a very Outlander type of feel because of its time travel.
The Stone Unturned by surveycorpsjean is one of my favorite Breath of the Wild stories (Sidon/Link with plenty of angst)
Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy by Aurum_Auri (a great author I repeatedly revisit) is a fantastic Great Pretender fic, and it deserves more love since it's such a small fandom (sugar daddy Laurent/Makoto AU)
A Night On The Town by SteeleStingray is a fun, action oriented Captive Prince fic focusing on Nicaise (modern AU with secret agent Damen/Laurent)...pretty much anything by SteeleStingray is a fun time.
Give Me A Reason To Stay Here by danegen is an adorable modern AU Wei Wuxian/Lan Zhan fic for The Untamed/Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation series.
(D)umb (N)erd (A)ttraction by Iaintnosidekick is a modern Rey/Kylo Ren fic where they're two scientists who go from friends to lovers. This is where I out myself as a secret Reylo shipper and that I'm literally playing The Last Jedi in the background as I make this list 😆 There's also one where Rey and Ben are Pokemon Go fanatics that I loved, but I don't have it saved.
When The Sun Is On Again by thickenmyblood is a soul destroying Captive Prince fic that left us all in shambles.
And When You Laugh, My Heart Goes Wiggly (as a slime) by JayJEx is a Raven Cycle/Slime Rancher (Ronan/Adam) fic that I can't believe exists. It married one of my favorite series to one of my favorite games, and I just had to include it because it's also great!
Yellow Joy, Orange Fire, Red Desire by SteeleStingray is a Captive Prince fic that's just a good old fashioned horny joyride. I have no explanation. Again, pretty much all of SteeleStingray's Captive Prince fics are amazing so I could have put all of them on here.
Sorry I'm not getting specific with plots or anything. I kind of just picked stuff at random.
#captive prince#fanfic#i feel like this question was designed to out my fic preferences but it's kind of all over the place haha

I wouldn’t write this fic, but…
I have this idea for a loz fanfic that takes place prior to Rauru and Sonia establishing the kingdom of Hyrule, back when the zonai first descended from the heavens.
Because there’s no Hyrule yet, Zelda isn’t a princess, but she is a priestess, blessed with hearing Hylia’s voice, and that makes her special within the village. She has prophetic dreams that their world will soon be visited by a god-like civilization, and her words ignite both excitement and anxiety amongst the various Hylian settlements.
Link is still there. He’s a warrior, the most talented among his peers, and granted the privilege of being Zelda’s chosen champion. They also happen to be childhood friends, so their relationship is kinda inspired by Skyward Sword.
Impa is also there. The Sheikah tribe exists to protect the divine priestess herself, rather than the royal family. Impa is forever by Zelda’s side, as a bodyguard and friend. Though Impa has her usual severe disposition, her devotion is not to Zelda as the priestess, but as her closest companion.
Though, while Link and Impa are both friends with Zelda, their relationship is a little strained. Link’s goblin antics and leap-without-looking approach to life frequently leaves Impa doubting his ability to keep Zelda safe. And while generally Link bears her criticism without comment, at times he will solemnly thank her for her invaluable insight, and Impa can never tell if he’s being sincere or sarcastic.
When the zonai come, they are led by a king, whose sole daughter is Midna. Like all zonai, she has a distinctly draconic appearance, and she also happens to be the most skilled practitioner of magic within her tribe. However, Midna is also her usual mischievous self. She quickly makes it her mission to tease Link at every given opportunity.
The story would have Link/Midna and Zelda/Impa, with queerplatonic Link & Zelda.
Other possible characters might include incarnations of Groose/Gonzo, Medli/Mipha, Zant/Kohga, Navi/Ilia, Sidon, Revali, Riju, Yunobo, and, of course, Beedle.
Idk what role Ganondorf would play, if any. I think it would be neat to include a male Gerudo prince who isn’t evil, for once. (Maybe the Groose/Gonzo incarnation can take this role?) And maybe Ganondorf can be one of the zonai? That would be interesting, because then the arrival of the zonai would lead to disaster, potentially causing a rift between the Hylians and the zonai.
(Perhaps Ganondorf’s zonai incarnation is the leader of the interlopers that attempted to steal the triforce, thus having their tribe banished to the Twilight Realm? Because until stated otherwise, I will continue to believe that the zonai are the ancestors of the Twili.)
Anyway, yeah. I don’t want to write this, but I cannot get this idea out of my head.

Dreams of the Kingdom - Chapter 11: The Desert Invasion
Previous < First > Next
You finally arrive in Gerudo Desert. With an ominous message from the past, your visions becoming stronger, and Gerudo Town under siege, it feels this war may have more players than you initially expected. Worst of all, is Link hiding something from you?
AO3 Wattpad or below!
Side note, did you know that sand struck by lightning forms a type of rock called fulgurite?
The Lomei Labyrinths always had a bit of an unsettling feeling, even before the Upheaval. The feeling was only intensified in the Depths. Instead of the lonely wind of Gerudo Desert, the air was still and stale. Even with the Lightroot banishing the darkness, it felt like you were in a world of the dead. As much as you’d gotten used to the Depths, there was still part of you that felt it was forbidden. Part of you also hoped to see Sharpe again, but there didn’t seem to be a sign of your friend’s shade anywhere nearby.
The underground section of the labyrinth was far more straightforward than its compatriots above. A simple section looped downward. Ancient carvings threatened a duel against a terrible guardian – which only turned out to be a Flux Construct. While you and Link weren’t exactly wowed, your third party member was overjoyed.
“Prince [Y/n], thank you again for accompanying me to the labyrinth. I can’t imagine what I would have done without you and Link to get down to the Depths. So many artifacts!” Tauro could hardly sit still between picking up spare pieces of the downed Construct, to taking copious notes on the inscriptions, to getting charcoal rubbings of particularly intricate carvings.
“I’m sure it’ll be a great help to your research,” you said, trying to cover up the latest headache. They seemed to be far more common now, especially with your recent dreams of Ganondorf. Your vision swam as the labyrinth was temporarily replaced by an art gallery in the basement of a forgotten mansion, dark Poes and puppets of Ganondorf floating between the paintings. One monster rode a skeletal horse wearing an evil skull-like mask. You took a deep breath and closed your eyes, letting the feeling pass as the room changed back to normal. Sidon’s suggestion floated back to you; could the Demon King alter time? Were these just echoes of the past? That only raised more questions, namely why? Why would the Demon King, or anyone, want to show you these over and over?
The past… that’s it! If anyone would know anything about the new dreams… well, it’d be Zelda first, but Tauro was practically a walking encyclopedia of Zonai knowledge! “Tauro, do you know anything about the Dragon Cults?”
Tauro brightened. “Of course! I’ve written multiple theses on them! As far as we know there are three key cults, strangely none for the Light Dragon. There’s the Eldin Cult who worshipped Dinraal, the Hebra Cult who worshipped Naydra, and the Faron Cult who worshipped Farosh. What would you like to know?”
“Can you tell me anything about the last Dragon Priest of the Faron Cult?”
Tauro frowned. “That’s an excellent question. We know that the last Faron Priest was known by many names, including the Child of Storms and the Voice of Farosh. Unfortunately, when the cult was abolished during the formation of Hyrule, he disappeared. Any mentions of him after are stricken from the record, literally. Someone destroyed any mention of him in any stone tablet after that point.”
“Well, that sucks,” you grumbled.
“I’m glad you didn’t ask me about him in front of Paya.”
“Why’s that?”
Tauro lowered his voice. “It’s said the last priest was a Sheikah, and some think that he may have started the Yiga Clan. There’s no proof, but some have theorized he played a hand in the death of Queen Sonia.”
It was a good thing the light was so dim, so that Tauro couldn’t see how pale you’d become. You cleared your throat. “Thank you for telling me. Do you think you could… research him a bit more? Maybe dig into the ruins at the Dracozu River?”
“It’d be my pleasure! Thank you so much, I’ve wanted to do a full-scale excavation for years. I’ll be sure to provide you a detailed report! But first…” He turned to the treasure chest that sat at the bottom of the labyrinth. The chest oddly seemed more modern than the rest of the ruins. He gleefully rubbed his hands together and carefully lifted the lid.
Inside laid the treasure on a soft blanket. The “aspect of darkness” alluded to in Tauro’s notes was a terrifying mask, a pale skull with long horns and glowing eyes. A chill washed over you as you realized the mask was the same as the one in your recent vision. A wheezing cough of a laugh echoed in the back of your mind, but you refused to acknowledge it.
“This is all wrong.” Tauro frowned. “This isn’t from the Zonai era. This mask is from Hyrule’s Golden Age. It’s too new to be down here.”
“How did it get here then? I thought you said we’re the first ones to explore this in centuries.”
“We’re the first in millennia,” Tauro corrected. “I-I-I don’t understand. This isn’t possible!”
You took a steadying breath. “There are ones at each of the labyrinths, right? I think it’s best we avoid looking further into this at the moment.”
“But…”
“Please focus on studying the Dracozu Ruins for now,” you said gently. “Could you also please leave this discovery between us for now?” Tauro seemed confused but nodded. You sighed. The last thing you wanted was people to get scared about what this could mean. Time travel? False ruins? Or worse, what if this was a way for Ganondorf to get extra power, by tricking your researchers into digging up his artifacts for him? You then saw the chest was engraved on the lid with Zonai writing. “What does this say?”
Tauro scratched his head. “It says, ‘Below the heart of Gerudo lies the ancient servant of the Demon King.’”
“That’s not reassuring…” You stared at the carvings. “Heart of Gerudo is probably easy enough, but what servant are they talking about?”
Tauro spoke your fear aloud before you could put words to it. “It’s possible that the servant is the last Dragon Priest. Before his passing, he served the Demon King as his personal steward, though many accounts suggest he was more of a not-so-secret lover. The dates are a bit hazy, but it’s believed he died around the same time as the start of the First Imprisoning War.”
Tauro paused for a moment, seemingly reluctant to continue. “Tauro, what is it?”
He winced. “Your majesty, I have a hypothesis, but I don’t want to upset you…”
“Tauro, if there’s anything that can give us an edge in this war, I’m willing to hear even your craziest thoughts.”
“It’s just that… well…” He swallowed hard. “Stories suggest he was at one of ancient Hyrule’s forts when he died. He may have had a hand in Queen Sonia’s passing, and it’s possible King Rauru may have had a hand in his. If that’s the case, perhaps Ganondorf started the war in rage for a lost lover?”
You were speechless. Could it be true? The idea seemed to coil around your thoughts, forcing itself to the front of your mind. “Maybe that’s why Ganondorf is messing with me. I’m Rauru’s descendant… but that doesn’t explain how he seems to know me or…” You held your tongue. You were not about to let Tauro know about your dreams, especially before you had a chance to talk about them with Link. Not only that, your last dream didn’t exactly make the relationship seem like it was a happy one…
“Your majesty?”
“I’m sorry Tauro, I need a moment. I’m going to step outside for some fresh air… or as fresh as it gets down here.”
“Okay, I’ll wrap up and meet you outside.”
Outside the labyrinth, you found Link, packing up your impromptu camp. Outwardly, he was professional, but he wasn’t exactly thrilled to be spending time with Tauro. “Are you all done in there?” He asked, a little stiffly.
“I am, but Tauro needs another minute or two.” Around anyone else, the way he tensed would’ve gone unnoticed. He continued to pack, but you wrapped your arms around him from behind. Link froze for a moment before melting into you. “Thank you for playing nice,” you said, kissing Link on the cheek. You could feel his cheek grow warm, but he stayed quiet. “Why is it only him that drives you up the wall? You don’t have a problem with anyone else. I figured if anything Sidon’s touchy-feely-ness would get you, but you encourage it if anything.”
“Sidon’s basically your little brother. Tauro’s just… ugh. He’s hot, tall, and super smart.”
You tried so hard, yet the giggle still slipped out. “My knight, are you jealous?”
“I just don’t want him thinking he can try and steal my prince from me.”
You laughed as he broke free, getting back to work. “You’re telling me you think I’d let anyone steal me from you? After everything we’ve been through?”
“I know…” Link pouted as he prepared the rigging for the hot air balloon. “I still don’t like the way he looks at you.”
“Please, he has no eyes for me. I’m pretty sure the only thing he’s in love with is the Zonai Ruins.”
“You’re part Zonai,” Link said, but the shine in his eyes was playful.
“I’m not the one with the Zonai hand. Maybe I need to be keeping you away from him.” You struck some flint to start the fire for the balloon. “Tauro! Hurry up, balloon’s leaving!”
==============================
Once back on the surface, the three of you headed back to Kara Kara Bazaar, where you parted with Tauro. The bazaar was lively as ever, with two rather menacing signs of the Demon King’s influence. The first was an eerie tower of sand, somewhat shaped like a mushroom. The tower had a pulsating violet core. Unsettling didn’t begin to cover it.
The second was no less frightening. A massive sandstorm spread across most of the desert, making the one from Vah Naboris look like a joke. Neither you nor Link were surprised to hear the local residents claiming to have seen Princess Zelda wandering in the heart of the storm – yet another doppelganger. You stood at the edge of the bazaar, just beyond the veil of sand that stretched high into the sky.
You had changed into a set of Desert Voe Armor, dyed in your favorite color. It may not have had the same protection as some of your other armor, but no other set was more suited to the desert heat. Link had changed into his own set as well.
“Aww, I don’t get to see you in vai clothes this time,” you teased.
Link grinned. “Can’t have those vai getting all jealous of how good a voe looks in them now, can we?” His attention returned to his work, another hot air balloon that used a Zonai Wing for a base.
“Do you think we’ll be able to get high enough before the balloon wears out?” You asked.
“It’s our best option,” Link replied. “There’s no sky islands nearby and the tower is too far off.” It was unsaid, but both of you silently wondered if Ganondorf’s past was the reason for the lack of sky islands.
Speaking of Ganondorf’s past, the desert seemed so similar yet so different to the one in your dreams. Even if there wasn’t a sandstorm, the desert felt more empty and desolate now. There, the Gerudo were a thriving civilization, not a small village. Perhaps Ganondorf’s influence left a lasting curse.
Your stomach twisted thinking about your recent dreams, only made worse as you knew you needed to talk to Link about it. You turned to your boyfriend as he finished attaching the last piece of the balloon. “Link, about the dreams... They’re starting to feel like nightmares again.”
Link frowned. “But isn’t finding the Triforce a good thing?”
“Yes but…” You groaned. “There’s some new ones popping up. These are with Ganondorf.”
You now had his full attention. “Is it the ball again?” He asked quietly.
“No, it’s different. It’s like I’m looking at a past life.” You swallowed hard. “One where I was Ganondorf’s… consort.”
Link’s gaze remained strong, and he pulled you into a hug. “It’s okay, Ganondorf is just trying to get to you again.”
“But Link, it felt so real! Like, more than any of the other dreams!”
Link held you tighter – a little too tight. “He’s just messing with you. I know it’s nothing. You’d never fall in love with someone like him.”
You let out a little laugh. “Absolutely not.” Your voice caught in your throat though, wanting to stress how much it worried you, yet something made you hold back. Maybe later the two of you would talk more about it. Right now, you both needed to focus.
Link started up the Flame Emitter, and the balloon rose into the air. As the bazaar grew smaller below you, the air grew cooler. Just as the balloon was about to give out, you crested over the top of the sandstorm.
==============================
You landed at the edge of the town wall. Inside, all was eerily silent, but for the howl of the wind. “Not a good sign,” you muttered. Your eyes fell on a limp body in the corner. “Shit, Link, over here!”
You ran towards the body, but Link grabbed your arm. “Hold on!” Suddenly, you saw the body was not one of the Gerudo but resembled a corpse. A clicking sound filled the air as its ribs began to move. Slowly, it crawled upward, shambling towards you and hissing. “What the hell is that?”
You held up a shield, blocking both you and Link behind it. Your eyes scanned over its odd shape and antennae. “It looks like a Gibdo or ReDead, or at least a variation of one. In legend, they’re reanimated corpses, but this looks more like its affected by some kind of parasite…”
“So, it’s using these bones as armor? Looks like there’s something under the bones too. A shell?”
“We’ll need something to get through the armor.” You reached in your pack and pulled out a Shock Fruit, chucking it at the monster. The shockwave stopped it dead in its tracks, but you noticed its body had also turned pale and brittle. “Perfect!” One strike from your sword was enough to dispatch it.
Link looked at the remains. “It’s almost like it turned into sand. Do you think it’s from the storm or the Depths?”
“I wouldn’t be surprised,” you said, picking up one of the bones. “Guess we’re lucky it’s not like a ReDead in the old tales, huh?”
“Don’t give Ganondorf more ideas.”
The two of you walked through the town. The raging sandstorm had covered a good portion of the market in a layer of coarse grit. There wasn’t a sign of life anywhere, until you found a hole in the stairway leading to the Chief’s home. The hole led downward to a pit and a doorway, safe from the storm. Beyond, you could barely make out the sound of people moving.
“Hello?” You called. “Is anyone there?” Link preemptively readied a shock arrow.
“Begone! No voe allowed!”
Both of you breathed a sigh of relief. “Thank the goddesses. Is the entire town in there?”
“Begone!”
For a moment you saw an eye peek at you through the peephole. Another voice came, this one a bit gruffer. “Let them in, these voe are allowed. After all, they are honorary Gerudo and our heroes.”
The door rolled to the side. You gave the giant woman on the other side a friendly wave. “Captain Buliara, thank you for letting us in.”
She gave you a traditional Gerudo salute. “Your majesty, it is a pleasure to see you. Did the Gibdos give you trouble?”
“Not exactly, but we only ran into one. Where did they come from?”
“We’re still trying to understand exactly where, but the sand towers seem to be like a hive for them.”
“If that’s their hive and they’re weak to the elements, maybe a strong enough blast would destroy it?”
Buliara nodded. “It’s what we suspect as well. Chief Riju has been training tirelessly to practice her lightning abilities to combat this threat. She’s just about to go train again, but you might catch her if you hurry.”
“Right, thanks!” You said, and you and Link hurried to the back of the shelter, just in time to run into the Gerudo Chief.
“It’s good to see you both,” Riju said, clasping your arm in welcome. “It’s funny how the two of you always seem to show up right when things get interesting.”
“Just lucky like that,” Link replied. “Just wish it was for… y’know, the usual.”
Riju’s eyes sparkled. “Oh, of course. If I recall, you’re still behind, Hero of Hyrule, 10 to 9.”
“Hey, I won that last race, and the one before absolutely didn’t count!”
You shook your head. “I told you to make sure your seal wasn’t hungry before the race, Link. We’re just lucky the fruit merchant didn’t ban us for life after your graceful landing in her stack of hydromelons.”
“Who’s side are you on?”
Suddenly, there was a terrible screech outside. Link and Riju charged to the bunker gate. “It’s another wave of them,” Buliara muttered, watching carefully through the peephole.
Your stomach twisted. Much like when you faced Mucktorok, the strange feeling that something shouldn’t be happening rose in your gut. “The attack, it’s not supposed to happen yet…”
Link looked back at you. “What?”
“I can’t explain it. This isn’t right, the attack was supposed to be somewhere else!”
“How do you know that?” Link asked. Riju stared at you, signaling the other Gerudo to bring you some water.
Before you could respond, you felt something shake. You pulled out your pack, tearing through it like a madman. When you came to the pieces of the Triforce, you froze, expecting them to be glowing and warning you. Instead, the bronze pieces were completely inert. Instead, you could see the bluish stone from the Depths pulse with a dim blue light. You picked it up, turning it over in your hands. Instantly, your headaches dulled, and your vision cleared. Your thoughts came easily, the difference clear in your mind. “The attack… it was supposed to be at Kara Kara Bazaar, and then they were going to attack here after they failed. Why are they attacking here now?”
“[Y/n!]” Link shouted, kneeling next to you.
“What? I feel fine?”
“Your eyes!” Link drew his shield and in the reflection, you could see your eyes were glazed over, glowing with the same blue light.
“What the…” You dropped the stone, and your eyes flashed back to normal. “What is this thing?”
You reached down to pick it up again, but Link beat you to it, placing it back in your pack. He then leaned in, caressing your cheek. Gently, he pulled you towards him, and he looked deep into your eyes. Once satisfied, he sighed and pulled you into an embrace. “Thank goodness.”
“Link, I don’t think it was hurting me. If anything, my headaches went away.” Link refused to let you go. You frowned and pushed back. “Okay Link, what’s going on? You’ve been acting strange since-”
“Gentlemen,” Riju coughed. “If you could perhaps focus on the attack?”
“Right, sorry,” Link said, standing.
You clenched your jaw. “Of course, Riju, our apologies.” You looked at Link, but his face was stone. He really had been acting strangely, ever since… well, ever since your expedition beneath the castle. There was no time to think about that right now, you had work to do. You grabbed your Sword of the Six Sages. “Just point us where you need us.”
“Your help is greatly appreciated. These monsters won’t know what hit them with the master swordsman and the Prince of the Wild.”
Just then, a scout ran in. “Chief Riju, there are more than we expected. Three hives have appeared at our gates with most of their forces coming from the northeast. It may be necessary to retreat through the tunnels.”
“We Gerudo never retreat. We aren’t going to let them drive us out. This is our home!” Riju drew her swords. A great cheer rose from the soldiers. “Padda, make sure everyone is well equipped. Teake, take your forces to the northwest gate. Buliara will lead another squad at the southeast gate. That leaves Link, Prince [Y/n], and I to lead the charge against the main forces at the northeast gate. Any objections?” The room remained tense, but quiet. “Today will be a glorious day for our people. We shall drive back the monsters and make that traitor Ganondorf regret crossing us!”
==============================
The sandstorm raged as you charged through the market street to the gate. Hordes of Gibdos lumbered across the dunes towards the town entrance, mandibles clicking. Their tower hive opened up, dropping more of the monsters into the sand. “That’s a lot more than there should be,” you hissed.
“Just means more for us to mow down,” Link said, fusing a topaz to his sword.
“My lightning should make short work of them,” Riju added. “I may need your help with aiming, [Y/n].”
“Arrows okay?”
“Arrows are perfect,” she replied. For a moment, you could see Urbosa’s calm confidence in her smile. With a nod, you swapped to your bow, aiming for the sandy hive. “Ready!”
You let the arrow fly, striking the hive’s core. In the blink of an eye, the hive was blasted to ash by a bolt, disintegrating a wave of Gibdo in the process. Wasting no time, you chucked a Shock Fruit at another group, charging in to knock them down with your sword. You turned to see Link doing the same. Each swing of his sword sent bolts of lightning rippling across the sand.
Buliara’s squad had no problem taking down their hive with Shock Fruit and bombs, and they soon joined you to finish dispatching the eerie monsters. Together, your squads moved west to help Captain Teake. “One more and we’ll win the day!” Riju called, answered by a cheer from the soldiers.
“Ready Riju!” You said, aiming your bow at the pulsing core.
“Fire away!” Your arrow flew, hitting its mark. But, as the last hive fell to the lightning, you barely had time to breathe before a terrible screech filled the air. A massive winged Gibdo emerged from the sands, charging towards the town. “That’s got to be their queen,” Riju muttered.
“I’m guessing this isn’t supposed to happen either?” Link asked.
“I’ve given up at this point,” you grumbled, tightening your grip on your sword. The Queen Gibdo wasn’t going to go down easy. She screeched again, four more hives sprouting from the ground. You reached to your pack and your heart sank. “Link, out of Shock Fruit!”
He tossed you one. “I don’t have many left though. Make the shot count!”
“Everyone, take them out as we did before!” Riju ordered, but you could tell she was getting winded. Using this much of her power must be taking a toll on her.
You looked down at the fruit in your hand and suddenly the headaches returned, twice as strong. “Not now…”
For a moment the world shifted completely, shoving the battlefield far away. The desert melted, replaced by an unfamiliar swamp, unlike anything in your Hyrule. A Link from another time clambered up onto a platform just above the mire, holding a medallion emblazoned with a lightning bolt. “In the name of the Golden Goddesses, I command you, power of Ether!” The medallion began to glow, and for a brief moment, the image of the Triforce appeared. With a swing of his Master Sword, the sky filled with a terrible storm, lightning crackling all around. A massive bolt fell from the heavens striking the miserable mire, before a temple opened up before him. He then turned back to look at you with a smile before it all faded away.
As the swamp disappeared and the battle of Gerudo Town returned, you could hear Riju shout. “There’s too many of them!”
“We won’t stop fighting until the end,” Link said, pulling out his last Shock Fruit.
“It’s too much for me to recharge between,” Riju said.
“Then let me charge you,” you blurted out. Riju looked at you in confusion. “The Triforce of Power. I can feed its energy into you so that your lightning is more powerful. We’ll turn your bolts into an entire storm.”
Riju thought for a moment. “Do it. We don’t have a lot of options.” Link looked back at you, giving you an encouraging nod. You took a deep breath.
You could feel the Triforce reacting, the veins of light once again traveling up your arm, almost engulfing you up to your elbow in light. This time, you braced your arm, a ball of light filling your palm. You took a deep breath and aimed at Riju. “Ready?”
“Do it!”
The energy poured from you into Riju. The sky grew dark, and the air filled with the smell of ozone. The Queen Gibdo screeched, leaping into a full charge towards the town. “Now, Riju!”
Riju swung her sword down. With a terrifying crack, the sky erupted in light. Again and again, the lightning struck the desert, obliterating the hives. The Queen Gibdo was torn asunder, struck by five different bolts and rendered into dust. In a matter of seconds, the Gibdo forces were replaced by smoldering ashes and jagged treelike rock. Relief washed over you as you fell to your knees, trying to catch your breath.
“Is that all of them?” you heard a Gerudo warrior ask behind you. A rumbling shook the earth.
“That better not be another one,” you said. Thankfully it wasn’t. From the southwest, a tremor shook the desert as slowly a great pyramid rose from the dunes. You bit your tongue, recognizing it from your dream. The pyramid towered over everything for miles, an imposing sight.
“The Lightning Temple,” Riju said, staring at it with fixed determination. “It is said it disappeared centuries ago… after Ganondorf’s betrayal.”
As the pyramid came to a rest, the desert fell into a tense silence. There wasn’t even the slightest hiss, buzz, or click of a Gibdo. Even the storm seemed quieter. Suddenly the silence was shattered. “VICTORY!” Captain Teake shouted. A chorus of cheers and whoops filled the air as Gerudo Town was finally free from the Gibdos.
Everyone flocked to the streets of the town in celebration, yet you returned by yourself to the Chief’s throne room. As you stood alone on the balcony, you looked out across the desert. The pyramid loomed on the sandy horizon. Thanks to Tauro’s discovery in the labyrinth, it filled you with more dread than either of the two other temples. You heaved a sigh and forced your mind back to the celebrating forces. Your eyes landed on your boyfriend. Link cheered with the rest, seemingly back to normal, but you could tell that there was something deeper. “Link,” you muttered to yourself, “I wish you’d tell me what’s wrong.”
==============================
Your relationship troubles didn’t end in your dreams.
Ganondorf stormed into his room. With a roar, he upended a lounge chair, followed by a table, which smashed to pieces against the wall.
“I suppose that answers my question about your ambush,” you said from his bedside.
Ganondorf growled, crushing a gold platter in his hands. Despite his tendency to remain composed in front of his army, behind closed doors he let out his true anger. “A secret stone. Rauru’s secret stone is far more powerful than I could have ever imagined. He destroyed an entire herd of Molduga in an instant. Why if I had that power…”
You tensed. Internally, you knew the secret stones were powerful, considering the abilities of the sages, but the power to destroy an army? “What happened exactly?”
“A beam of light and a golden triangle!” Your stomach twisted. “I don’t understand, where did Rauru summon this power from?! I was led to believe the secret stones only amplify one’s own power, but this… this was the power of a god!”
“He alone summoned this power?” Both you and your dream host seemed equally concerned and inquisitive.
“Yes! Wait… no.” Ganondorf frowned. “There were two other smaller lights. One must have been Queen Sonia, but who could the other be?”
“I couldn’t begin to guess,” you muttered. It was the honest truth for you and your past self. Who else would have such power other than Rauru and Queen Sonia? Even the sages weren’t able to summon holy beams of light. It almost reminded you of Ze-
“I need that power,” Ganondorf growled, shaking you from your thoughts.
You looked over him with a pain in your chest. Your past self’s memories came back to you, of the gentle yet powerful warrior who once visited your temple daily, bringing gifts from afar. Ganondorf used to look on you like you were a god. There were many days where he would cradle you in his arms as storms raged over Faron, and many nights where you both would climb atop the Popla Foothills to see the stars. Where was that man now? Did that man still exist or was he buried beneath the lust for power and pride?
“My starlight,” you said, gently caressing his hand. You leaned in against his thick arm, intertwining it with yours. “Perhaps it would be best to seek peace. If Rauru were to track the attack back to you, then what would stop him from obliterating your entire kingdom? Forgive me for being presumptuous, but would it not be better to go to him and extend your hand in cooperation, not confrontation?”
“You want me to turn tail and seek forgiveness? You think me a coward?” Ganondorf growled.
You brushed his hair back. “No, of course not. But you must think of your people and think with common sense. My love, you must plan ahead and seek all angles. A retreat means living to fight another day. Perhaps seeking peace would even provide you with answers about his abilities?” While you didn’t say it aloud, you also hoped that seeking peace would have him see sense. “Power without wisdom is merely recklessness.”
“Yes… my blossom, I regret how often I forget to rely on your wisdom…”
Stupidity is a funny thing, and sometimes intrusive thoughts slip. You knew you shouldn’t say it, but there are times where one’s mouth moves faster than one’s mind. “Yes, not just your doll to play with.”
Any trace of calm was erased by the return of his boiling rage. “What is that supposed to mean?”
You bit your tongue. “Nothing, just a joke.” His glare pierced you. You winced, feeling his hand tighten around your wrist. “Gan… you’re hurting me.”
He looked down and released, looking away with only the briefest flicker of remorse. You rubbed your wrist. It wasn’t fractured, thank Farosh, but you knew it would bruise. Ganondorf refused to look at you. You took small pride in that he could at least still feel guilt. “Pack your things. We will leave for Hyrule Castle in the morning.”
“As you wish, my lord.” He seemed to pale at your clipped, monotone response. You stood, walking to the door.
“Wait…”
You paused. The words seemed to die in his throat.
You simply nodded and left.

Courtship Rituals - Sidon x reader
“What about like courtship rituals? Like how Mipha gives armor. I personally assume a male Zora would give jewelry. Maybe armor to help the Hylian swim better.” - @verbophobic
did some research with this one, because i’m STILL so attached to my first play through of the game and didn’t want to restart it for lore. Mipha’s gift of armor to Link was more traditional rather than ritual, as each Zora princess hand makes armor for their husband-to-be. however, i do believe the Zoras would have some sort of courtship rituals, especially within in the royal family. but ultimately, i think if Sidon were to try these on a Hylian he wants to court/marry, i feel as if he would mix the two to create a hybrid courtship ritual. he cares wayyy too much for his s/o to follow the courtship rituals of the Zora.
i LOVE this request! seriously!! i hope you enjoy!! <3
(basing this loosely off this Sidlink piece by @lunian )
y/n - your name
Sidon’s trying to find the perfect way to transition your fling into something longterm
and the gifts he keeps thinking of are either too grand for your taste or not grand enough for his
he wants to show you how much you mean to him
and he’s always caught by surprise when you gift him Hylian trinkets you’ve picked up on your journey
‘Why is this so hard?’
he paces as he thinks to himself
he’s spent DAYS losing sleep
just because he can’t figure it out
and he’s falling behind in his work
he’s too focused on his feelings for you
and when you two spend some time together
you can tell he’s tired
you spend the day at Veiled Falls
letting him rest his head in your lap
but again, he’s in his own head and can’t rest
“What’s troubling you, Sidon?”
“Nothi— nothing…”
you sigh
“I’m only trying to help.”
“I know. It’s just.. I’m conflicted about some… work matters.”
and that’s the only time he’ll ever not be truthful to you
“Well, we’re here now. Get some rest.”
the gentle touch of your hand on his cheek eases his mind
and he naps for a little while
once you two have parted for the day though
his mind is back in flames
and that’s when he thinks of it
‘Jewelry!’
he does a little reading
and you’ve both talked about Hylian customs enough for him to understand the significance of rings in Hylian culture
so he heads to Dento’s workshop
“This is going to be a strange request, but I need a piece of jewelry made.”
“That’s not so strange, Sidon. What kind of jewelry?”
“A ring.”
and Dento stares at him for a moment in disbelief
“A ring? Those aren’t in ou—”
“I know. But in Hylian cul— it’s important to me. I can pay you whatever you desire, Dento.”
and Dento agrees
they talk about ring sizes
ring styles
materials
Sidon knows your taste well
and he hopes that this ring will be as sentimental to you as it is to him
Dento completes this task
and Sidon is in awe of the small piece of metal in his hands
he hides it in his cravat
and then he’s on his way to find you
because he can’t wait another day
“Y/n! There you are! Fancy a picnic by the pond?”
“Good! I’ll see you tonight then!”
you both meet up at Ralis Pond
Sidon’s brought so much food and wine
and though you two do this kind of thing quite a bit
something just feels… different
he can’t stop smiling
or looking at you
and it makes you blush
he pours your drink
and he’s a little shaky from the nerves
“Are you alright?”
“Yeah! I’m fine!”
the night progresses on
fireflies are lighting up the space around you
and Sidon takes a deep breath
“I have something for you.”
you tilt your head
he digs into his cravat and pulls out the ring
“I had it made for you. I remember you saying rings are one of the rituals of courtship for Hylians.”
“Sidon…”
“In Zora courtship, we like to make things for our partner, and I… I wanted it to be special.”
you’re speechless
“I’ve been wanting ask this for a while, and I wasn’t sure how to, but… I want this, our relationship, to be something longterm; something… life-long. Is that something you’d be willing to… take part in?”
and you nod, the tears starting to well in your eyes
“Really?”
“Yes!”
he pulls you in close, placing his lips on yours
the passion he feels for you is endless
he pulls away slowly, taking the ring from your hand
and he gently slides it onto your finger
you look at each other with teary-eyed smiles
your hands in Sidon’s
“I love you”

Wonder how Zayl will react to seeing Sidon and co again.
Feel like the zora elder that joined them will be telling it how it was one of the few that voted with Sidon to help towards the monsters cause and is appalled on how the king and the others mistreated Zayl and used their grief of losing mipha as the reason they couldn’t send help.
Like out of all the races so far the zora were the most ruthless with having Zayl kill its own kind to prove it was free from the malice
But the gorons and rito they were happy and willing instantly with not as bad tests for their monsters to prove their worth
Also seems the gorons and rito aren’t still griefing over the lost of their champions yes mipha was a princess but urbosa was chief but the gerudo seemed to not hold anything against link (because urbosa told him to dress up as a girl to follow Zelda into the town when she used it to try and avoid him) for what happen 100 years ago
Yet the elder zora do but I’m worried about the gerudo and Rezek.
We saw in age of calamity how they champions fought hard before their demise (if it wasn’t for Sidon and co getting summoned from the future to save them) meaning urbosa died a gerudo warrior death fighting for her people and hyrule.
Mipha did too but seems the zora are still taking her death so hard 100 years later…
Maybe that’s what that elder came with sidon felt, he accepted mipha’s death and willing to help stop calamity ganon like mipha would want but seems the zora are so worried of losing their prince that they don’t realize that will be lost if sidon and co don’t help and that’s something mipha wont want.
I was unsure if I wanted to include Zayl's reaction to seeing Sidon again last week or just as a small recap sometime. Because I think it's apparent Zayl would be thrilled to see Sidon again with how he went to bat for it back in Zora's Domain.
As painful as it was to write, I do love the stark contrast I made with how the monsters were treated in the Domain compared to Goron City and Rito Village. Zora's Domain arguably feels the scars from the Calamity the hardest - due to most of them old enough to live through it as either children or young adults.
But I also did it as a way to explore the themes of how older systems refuse to let go of their past. Many of the Zora Elders are still clinging to those Pre-Calamity days, as evidenced by how they see Mipha as this tragic "crown jewel" of the Zora's that was taken away from them. They've grown bitter, and close-hearted, refusing to change for the better. Dento and a few others had a change of heart, but only because they paid attention to the past and learned for it rather than view it with rose-tinted glasses. And the younger Zoras like Sidon are actively fighting against these stubborn systems that refuse to change. Because unlike the Elders they have little attachment to that old past that barely made up a fraction of their life.
And similar to this, that's how I reflected that in the other races of Hyrule. They're nowhere nearly as attached to the Hyrule of old because not even their parents remembered The Calamity. The fallen champions were legendary, but the attachment that the Zora have to Mipha just isn't there.
This will come to a head later on in the story, too, so I feel like it's important to bring this up :)

The Fountain's Blessing
The Fountain's Blessing
by Anonymous
Early on in their relationship, Sidon insisted that Link would have none of the responsibilities normally expected of a royal spouse, and that he would instead be free to rest, cook, paint, sleep, eat, swim, travel as he so wished. Since then, Link has, for the first time, spent these years living a life of luxury he never realised he deserved.
He bathes each day in the warm pools below the throne room. He descends to the basin every so often to catch fish, and meets the traders as they pass through from other regions of Hyrule. He makes meals he likes, still relishing the freedom to eat for the pleasure of it. Forgotten are the days of simply skewering some mushrooms and the meat of some beast he’s killed, simply to keep up his strength to fight.
However, troubled by the Zora’s perception of him, Link went to his spouse and explained the people’s concerns. Sidon comforted him, but dismissed his worries, adamant that Link’s liberation clause included any expectation to provide him with children.
Sidon failed to consider, though, that Link wants to.

Playing through ToTK's story again, and just got to the scene where Yona encourages Sidon to stop holding himself back. I've seen people criticize Yona for "being too cruel" and claiming she "just wants him to suck his trauma up". To that, all I can say is...
You missed the point of the scene, if that's what you gathered from it. Yeah, Sidon's traumatized from losing Mipha, but he IS still the prince (and eventually king). He has responsibilities to his people. He sitting back and wallowing in his grief and fear would benefit no one, including himself. Especially during a time where his people are suffering.
(TBH I feel like the *majority* people disliking Yona for this are probably just sid/link shippers who are doing the "this female character is getting in the way of our mlm ship so let's hate on her however we can!" bs, so. Biased criticisms at best.)

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Question 1: Can you fuck the fishman? I mean, I know the answer is no. There is, unfortunately, no scenario in which Prince Sidon would ever be promoted to canon love interest despite the fact that he’s got more personality in his cravat than every Zelda ever put together and multiplied by five. Hundred. Thousand. Million.
Question 2: Can the Master Sword be made unbreakable? It seems obvious that the answer is probably no, but I figure it can’t hurt to ask. I know it’s broken at the start of the game, but I figure there’s probably a way to repair it, else there’d be no reason to include it in the first place.
In a perfect world in so repairing it, it would be made unbreakable, thus dodging what is easily the worst goddamn mechanic in the series, which nigh single-handedly turned Breath of the Wild from a good game to a tolerable-at-best game (if you don’t agree I invite you to jump off a bridge. Preferably a very low one so that you don’t get seriously injured when you reach the bottom). But I can’t imagine Nintendo would be so kind as to exempt the master sword from breaking, regardless of how much better the game would be if one or more weapons were unbreakable.
Although I expect it will be just as sub-par a game as Breath of the Wild (bridge!), I will probably end up getting it anyway. I think I might have mentioned this before, but I have no self-control whatsoever.

A show of human force to do away with Him:
“The Pharisees went directly from the synagogue to consult with the supporters of Herod, the Romans’ puppet ruler, about how they could get rid of this dangerous dreamer.”
but it was a pure Life laid down as a “Seed” of rebirth
(to be…)
Today’s reading of the Scriptures from the New Testament is the 3rd chapter of the book of Mark:
On the Sabbath, Jesus had come into a synagogue where He saw a man with a withered hand.
The Pharisees held their breath: would Jesus cure this man on the Sabbath, right there in front of everyone? If so, they could charge Him with breaking the Sabbath law. Jesus knew their hearts. He called to the man with the withered hand.
Jesus: Come to Me.
Then He turned to the Pharisees with a question.
Jesus: Do our laws tell us to do good or evil on the Sabbath? To save life, or to snuff it out?
They remained silent.
Jesus was furious as He looked out over the crowd, and He was grieved by their hard hearts.
Jesus (to the man with the withered hand): So be it. Stretch out your hand.
The man stretched forth his hand; and as he did, it was completely healed. The Pharisees went directly from the synagogue to consult with the supporters of Herod, the Romans’ puppet ruler, about how they could get rid of this dangerous dreamer.
Meanwhile Jesus and His followers traveled to the shore of the Sea of Galilee; as always, a huge crowd from Galilee and Judea gathered. People had come from miles to see this man they were hearing so much about. They came from the big cities, including Jerusalem of Judea, Tyre and Sidon of Phoenicia, and from the region of Idumea, south of Judea. Since Jesus had healed so many, the sick and the infirm pushed forward constantly to touch Him, to be healed, and to ask His blessing. The crowd pressed so closely around Jesus that He asked His disciples to get a boat He could board if the crush became too great.
Most wanted to be near Him, except for those possessed by unclean spirits. Those people fell down before Him.
Unclean Spirits: You are the Son of God.
But He ordered them not to reveal His true identity.
Jesus called together a select group of His followers and led them up onto a mountain. There He commissioned them the twelve. [Later He calls them His emissaries.] He wanted them to be with Him. He sent them out to spread the good news and to cast out evil spirits [and heal diseases]. Here are the names of the original twelve: Simon (whom Jesus called Peter, meaning “the rock”), James and John (the sons of Zebedee, whom Jesus called “the Sons of Thunder”), Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew (the tax collector, also called Levi), Thomas, James (the son of Alphaeus), Thaddaeus, Simon of Canaan (who was also called “the Zealot”), and Judas Iscariot (who one day would betray Jesus to the authorities in Jerusalem so God’s purpose could be fulfilled).
Jesus and His disciples went into a house to eat, but so many people pressed in to see Jesus that they could not be served. When Jesus’ family heard about this craziness, they went to drag Him out of that place.
Jesus’ Family (to one another): Jesus has lost His mind.
The scribes, for their part, came down from Jerusalem and spread the slander that Jesus was in league with the devil.
Scribes: That’s how He casts out demons. He’s casting them out by the power of Beelzebul—the ancient Philistine god—the prince of demons.
When Jesus heard this, He tried to reason with them using parables.
Jesus: Listen. How can Satan drive out Satan? A kingdom that makes war against itself will collapse. A household divided against itself cannot stand. If Satan opposes himself, he cannot stand and is finished.
If you want to break into the house of a strong man and plunder it, you have to bind him first. Then you can do whatever you want with his possessions. Listen, the truth is that people can be forgiven of almost anything. God has been known to forgive many things, even blasphemy. But speaking evil of the Spirit of God is an unforgivable sin that will follow you into eternity.
He said this because the scribes were telling people that Jesus got His power from dark forces instead of from God.
When Jesus’ mother and brothers arrived, they couldn’t break through the crowd, so they sent word in to Jesus that He should come out to them. The crowd was pressed in tight around Him when He received the message, “Your mother and brothers [and sisters] are waiting outside for You.”
Jesus looked around.
Jesus (answering them): Who are My mother and brothers?
He called into the silence. No one spoke.
At last His gaze swept across those gathered close, and Jesus smiled.
Jesus: You, here, are My mother and My brothers! Whoever does the will of God is My true family.
The Book of Mark, Chapter 3 (The Voice)
A note from The Voice translation:
Popularity is often a dangerous thing, particularly in a land occupied by Roman soldiers. As Jesus’ ministry grows, some of His friends and family start to get nervous: they wonder if He has “lost His mind” entirely. They just can’t understand what is happening and why He is so important. It doesn’t seem right—the boy next door from Nazareth receiving so much attention. In fact, they are so uncomfortable with it that they decide to intervene and take Him home.
But Jesus’ family isn’t the only group concerned about Him. The Pharisees are doing their best to spread doubt about His authority with the worst accusations possible: His power to heal comes from the devil himself. They are attacking Him publicly and questioning His identity as the Anointed One.
Today’s paired reading from the First Testament is the 1st chapter of the book of Habakkuk:
This is the vision with which the prophet Habakkuk was burdened.
How long must I cry, O Eternal One,
and get no answer from You?
Even when I yell to You, “Violence is all around!”
You do nothing to save those in distress.
Why do You force me to see these atrocities?
Why do You make me watch such wickedness?
Disaster and violence, conflict and controversy are raging all around me.
Your law is powerless to stop this; injustice prevails.
The depraved surround the innocent, and justice is perverted.
Eternal One: Take a look at the nations and watch what happens!
You will be shocked and amazed.
For in your days, I am doing a work,
a work you will never believe even if someone tells you plainly!
Look! I am provoking and raising up the bitter and thieving Babylonian warriors from Chaldea;
they are moving out across the earth
And seizing others’ homes and property in their path.
That nation is terrifying people, is feared by everyone.
It makes the rules and serves only its own interests.
Babylonia’s horses run faster than leopards,
are fiercer than wolves when the sun goes down.
Its horsemen rush ahead with deadly force, galloping great distances;
the troops swoop down like eagles ready to devour,
And Babylonia keeps on coming, hungry for violence.
Hordes of determined faces are on the move like a hot east wind,
Scooping up captives like sand.
Their leader mocks kings and ridicules those in authority.
He laughs at every fortress
And builds ramps of dirt against their walls to capture it.
He blows through like the wind and then presses on to the next attack.
For their king, his god is his strength, but he will be held responsible.
Have You not existed from ancient times, O Eternal One, my holy God?
Surely You do not plan for us to die.
You, O Eternal One, have made Babylonia Your tool for judgment.
You, O Rock, have established that king as Your instrument of correction.
Your eyes are too pure to even look at evil.
You cannot turn Your face toward injustice.
So why do You stand by and watch those who act treacherously?
Why do You say and do nothing
When the wicked swallows up one who is more in the right than he is?
You made humans like fish in the sea,
like creatures under no rule or authority.
But the Babylonian yanks up his enemies with a hook,
dragging them away with his net.
Gathering them up like fish in a net,
the king shrieks and shouts for joy at his catch.
So he offers a sacrifice to his net that has made him rich;
the smoke of his sacrifices rises for his fishing net that has brought him success;
Because of it, his table is full and his belly is fat.
Will he empty and fill his net without end?
Will he continue to murder the people of the world without pity?
The Book of Habakkuk, Chapter 1 (The Voice)
A link to my personal reading of the Scriptures for Tuesday, february 6 of 2024 with a paired chapter from each Testament (the First & the New) of the Bible along with Today’s Proverbs and Psalms
A post by John Parsons about the thoughts we think and the things we do:
"Reason is itself a matter of faith. It is an act of faith to assert that our thoughts have any relation to reality at all." - Gilbert K. Chesterton
====
In general, people don’t like to be told what to do but would rather make their own judgments... However the various moral rules of Torah may be likened to guideposts along the way, warning us about dangers up ahead. And just as a physical law like gravity describes material reality, so a moral law describes spiritual reality. We can no more deny moral reality than we can deny physical reality, though the effect of violating moral truth is not physical but spiritual - affecting our inner life, our conscience, our sense of value, and so on. In either case, however, we deny reality at our own peril.
Many “laws” serve as empirical generalizations, of course. In science, for instance, we inductively sample phenomena and then universalize our hypothesis as a “law” that is (tentatively) applicable in all similarly controlled conditions -- at least until proven otherwise. In the case of moral reality, however, our methods of knowing are different. We do not use inductive reasoning to see what is right or wrong, but instead use moral principles that are “hard-wired” into our souls that we bring to experience...
We do not have to empirically determine through observation whether murder is wrong, for instance, since we know it is wrong both by revelation ("Thou shalt not murder"), and by the light of moral intuition as well. In some cases Biblical revelation is intuitively obvious. For example, premeditated murder of another person is morally wrong in any conceivable circumstance. The same may be said of torture, sexual crimes, treason, deception, and so on. The rational test here may be expressed by Immanuel Kant's "categorical imperative," that is, to see if you can consistently will your action to be a universal law of nature or not. Stealing, for instance, is irrational because if everyone were to steal, the concept of private property would be destroyed. Likewise lying is irrational because it presupposes the validity and significance of truth, and if everyone lied, then truth itself would be meaningless. This is the basis, after all of both the “Silver Rule” (“Do not do to others what you would not want done to yourself”) and the “Golden Rule” (“Do to others as you would want done to yourself”). In both cases reciprocity is universalized and the test is to see if the action is devoid of special pleading and the biases of self-interest.
No culture in the history of the world has ever celebrated traitors, cowards, liars, thieves, political tyrants, murderers, rapists, those who brutalize the innocent, and so on. And every culture has instinctively valued life, truth-telling, courage, honor, generosity, and so on. C.S. Lewis calls the belief that "certain attitudes are really true, and others really false, to the kind of thing the universe is and the kind of things we are" the Tao, or the "Way" that is intuited by simple reflection about the nature of reality.
Now on the other hand, there are some (very) qualified exceptions to our basic moral intuitions. For instance, the moral universal to “always speak truth” may be “broken” (or temporarily suspended) for the sake of a more important truth. For instance, if we deceived a psychopath armed with an ax who sought to murder someone, we would be exempt from the basic rule to always speak the truth by misleading him. In Jewish thought this is called "pikuach nefesh" (פיקוח נפש), which means "saving a soul." This principle is grounded in the verse from the Torah that says: "You shall keep my statutes and my judgments; which if a person does them he shall find life in them: I am the LORD" (Lev. 18:5).
There are "weightier matters" of Torah that imply showing mercy rather than following the "letter of the law" (Matt. 23:23; Micah 6:8). Yeshua often used the Sabbath day as a test case, and he pointed to commonsense exceptions to the law when mercy was needed more than religious practices (Hosea 6:6). He mentioned giving water to a thirsty donkey or rescuing a sheep that fell into a well as examples (Luke 13:15, Matt. 12:11). And Yeshua regularly denounced those Pharisees who fancied themselves to be "gatekeepers" of the Torah to exemplify those who missed the point. He said, "The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath: therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath" (Mark 2:27-28). To make his point, he went into a synagogue and publicly instructed a man with a withered hand to stand up. Yeshua then said to the Pharisees present: "Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do harm, to save life or to kill?" But they were silent. After looking around at them in anger, grieved by the hardness of their hearts, he said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." He stretched it out, and his hand was restored." Upon seeing this, the Pharisees "left immediately and began plotting how they could kill him" (Mark 3:1-6).
The mishpatim refer to judgments we inevitably must make in life, and what is required is practical discernment, that is, being able to balance the ideals of justice and love. It is often a struggle to strike the right balance, and the temptation is to lean to one side or the other. We might stress strict justice in the heat of outrage over a transgression, or we might stress unconditional love because of our own need for forgiveness. The Torah, however, as well as Yeshua, emphasizes kindness over matters of justice. For instance in our Torah portion we read: “If you lend money to any of my people who are poor among you, you shall not be like a moneylender to him; you shall not charge him interest. If you ever take your neighbor's garment as a pledge, you shall return it to him before the sun goes down, for that is his only covering, it is his garment for his skin. What will he sleep in? And it will be that when he cries to Me, I will hear -- כִּי־חַנּוּן אָנִי -- for I am gracious” (Exod. 22:25-27). Note that empathy for the needs of others is important, for the “essence of the Torah is mercy.”
There are so many law, rules, ordinances, and “mishpatim” given in Torah that it almost seems overwhelming, though I think this is intended to wake us up to how delicate the balance must be to ensure godly choices. There are no circumstances in which there is no need for careful discernment and wisdom from God. Our choices and actions have eternal significance and the mishpatim remind us of this truth. Just as the Shema invites us to love God in every experience, so the mishpatim invite us to do so in all our choices...
Moral and social rules speak to our need for boundaries, for sacred space, safety, and provide the means to show respect to one another. That’s the “spirit of the law,” the deeper reason for its expression. The “role of the rule” is to promote and upbuild life; a righteous interpretation of the use of a rule helps us discern how to limit and redirect our impulses to express godly character. “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit” (Gal. 5:25).

The Secret of Jewish Resilience
Feb 4, 2024
All the people answered as one, saying, “All that Hashem has spoken we will do!” And Moshe brought back the people's words to Hashem.
Exodus 19:8
Jean-Jacques Rousseau once observed the remarkable resilience and enduring nature of Jewish people. In an unpublished document discovered after his death, Rousseau wrote:
The Jews provide us with an astonishing spectacle: the laws of Numa, Lycurgus, Solon are dead; the very much older laws of Moses are still alive. Athens, Sparta, Rome have perished and no longer have children left on earth; Zion, destroyed, has not lost its children…. What must be the strength of legislation capable of working such wonders, capable of braving conquests, dispersions, revolutions, exiles, capable of surviving the customs, laws, empire of all the nations…to last as long as the world?…any man whosoever he is, must acknowledge this as a unique marvel, the causes of which, divine or human, certainly deserve the study and admiration of the Sages, in preference to all that Greece and Rome offer.
What is the secret of the Jewish people? What makes Judaism so unique? Rabbi Jonathan Sacks explains that the answer lies in the pivotal event of the revelation at Mount Sinai, a defining moment in Judaism.
Unlike other religions that center their revelations around individuals, Judaism is unique in that God revealed Himself to an entire nation. This was not a message delivered to a lone prophet or a select group of elders, but a divine encounter experienced by every man, woman, and child in the nation of Israel. Revealing Himself in this way removed any shadow of doubt that the presence felt and the voice heard were not genuine. The people of Israel were acutely aware that what transpired at Sinai was unparalleled and unprecedented. Moses himself emphasized the enormity of the event, highlighting its singularity in human history (Deuteronomy 4:32–33)
However, Rabbi Sacks continues, the revelation at Sinai was not only significant because of its religious implications but also for its profound influence on the political landscape in three ways. First, it marked the formation of a new kind of nation and society that was the antithesis of oppressive regimes like Egypt. This new society, born at Sinai, was based on liberty and equality, principles that would later resonate in Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. The covenant at Mount Sinai laid the foundation for a society bound not by power, but by a shared moral code and a collective covenant with God.
The Hebrew Bible, rather than Greek philosophy, significantly influenced early thinkers and founders of modern democracy. Long before figures like Milton, Hobbes, and Locke, the concept of a free society was conceived at Sinai. This covenant set moral boundaries on power, establishing the primacy of justice over authority. This contrasted sharply with the Greek model of democracy, which was plagued by the potential for majority tyranny and the absence of protections for minority rights.
The revelation at Sinai also introduced the radical concept that legitimate governance requires the consent of the governed, a notion advanced even when the governor is the Creator of Heaven and Earth. Before God gave the Torah He told Moses to tell the people, “Now then, if you will obey Me faithfully and keep My covenant, you shall be My treasured possession among all the people, indeed, all the earth is Mine” (Exodus 19:5). Only after the people responded as one, saying, “All that the Lord has spoken we will do!” (Exodus 19:8) did God proceed with the revelation. The revelation was contingent on the people’s explicit agreement, and without their affirmation, it could not advance further.
Finally, the covenant at Sinai was inclusive, encompassing every member of the nation, man, woman and child, a concept ahead of its time and one that predated the limited citizenship in ancient societies. This inclusivity set the stage for universal rights and participation, establishing the Torah as the first constitution of liberty that recognized every individual’s value.
The uniqueness of the Jewish people and their enduring legacy can be traced back to the momentous event at Sinai. The revelation was not just a spiritual awakening but also the birth of a new vision for society, one that cherished freedom, justice, and equality. Rousseau’s observation underscores the unparalleled strength and resilience of the Jewish People and Jewish law, a testament to the profound and lasting impact of the revelation at Sinai on the nation of Israel and the world at large.

Our Adversary, the Devil
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.” (1 Peter 5:8)
This grave warning concerning the devil was given not only to young Christians, easily subject to temptations, but also to “the elders which are among you” (v. 1). It often seems, in fact, that Satan’s greatest victories are won when he can cause the fall of a Christian leader, thereby not only destroying that leader’s influence for Christ but also giving “great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme” (2 Samuel 12:14). The devil is a roaring lion, but he doesn’t come as such. If he did, the intended victim would flee.
He is, above all, the one “which deceiveth the whole world” (Revelation 12:9), “transformed into an angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11:14). As he did with Mother Eve, the “subtle” one will insidiously appeal to our pride, or our aesthetic sense, or our appetite, or our desire for material things.
Peter could speak from bitter experience. Satan had desired to “sift you as wheat,” Jesus had told him, but he foolishly boasted that he would stand true (Luke 22:31-34).
No wonder Peter could warn with such urgency: “Be sober, be vigilant.” Note particularly that in the context, he is especially warning against greed (1 Peter 5:2) and pride (vv. 5-6). We must not allow Satan to “get an advantage of us,” Paul says, “for we are not ignorant of his devices” (2 Corinthians 2:11). Though Satan is deceptive and powerful, we need never fall to his tempting if we simply—along with staying sober and vigilant—“submit [ourselves] therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7). HMM
