29th November >> Mass Readings (Except USA)
Friday, Thirty Fourth Week in Ordinary Time
(Liturgical Colour: Green. Year: B(II))
First Reading Apocalypse 20:1-4,11-21:2 The book of life was opened, and the dead were judged.
I, John, saw an angel come down from heaven with the key of the Abyss in his hand and an enormous chain. He overpowered the dragon, that primeval serpent which is the devil and Satan, and chained him up for a thousand years. He threw him into the Abyss, and shut the entrance and sealed it over him, to make sure he would not deceive the nations again until the thousand years had passed. At the end of that time he must be released, but only for a short while. Then I saw some thrones, and I saw those who are given the power to be judges take their seats on them. I saw the souls of all who had been beheaded for having witnessed for Jesus and for having preached God’s word, and those who refused to worship the beast or his statue and would not have the brand-mark on their foreheads or hands; they came to life, and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. Then I saw a great white throne and the One who was sitting on it. In his presence, earth and sky vanished, leaving no trace. I saw the dead, both great and small, standing in front of his throne, while the book of life was opened, and other books opened which were the record of what they had done in their lives, by which the dead were judged. The sea gave up all the dead who were in it; Death and Hades were emptied of the dead that were in them; and every one was judged according to the way in which he had lived. Then Death and Hades were thrown into the burning lake. This burning lake is the second death; and anybody whose name could not be found written in the book of life was thrown into the burning lake. Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; the first heaven and the first earth had disappeared now, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the holy city, and the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, as beautiful as a bride all dressed for her husband.
The Word of the Lord
R/ Thanks be to God.
Responsorial Psalm Psalm 83(84):3-6,8
R/ Here God lives among men.
My soul is longing and yearning, is yearning for the courts of the Lord. My heart and my soul ring out their joy to God, the living God.
R/ Here God lives among men.
The sparrow herself finds a home and the swallow a nest for her brood; she lays her young by your altars, Lord of hosts, my king and my God.
R/ Here God lives among men.
They are happy, who dwell in your house, for ever singing your praise. They are happy, whose strength is in you: they walk with ever-growing strength.
R/ Here God lives among men.
Gospel Acclamation Luke 21:28
Alleluia, alleluia! Stand erect, hold your heads high, because your liberation is near at hand. Alleluia!
Gospel Luke 21:29-33 My words will never pass away.
Jesus told his disciples a parable: ‘Think of the fig tree and indeed every tree. As soon as you see them bud, you know that summer is now near. So with you when you see these things happening: know that the kingdom of God is near. I tell you solemnly, before this generation has passed away all will have taken place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.’
The Gospel of the Lord
R/ Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

HAPPY RELEASE DAY!
Dragged Up 'Hex Domestic EP' is OUT NOW!
https://cruelnaturerecordings.bandcamp.com/album/hex-domestic-ep
Formed in Glasgow (UK) in late 2018 with members from Trembling Bells, Vom, The Owsley Sunshine and Las Mitras, Dragged Up's debut mini-album "D/U" was released in 2020, to positive reviews and critical acclaim from the likes of Louderthanwar: "like classic CBGBs proto-punk transplanted to rain-drenched Scottish streets" and Record Collector Magazine: "an all-seeing, culture-cannibalizing slacker classic."
Mentioned in the same breath as Scottish indie-rockers Teenage Fanclub and garage-punks The Primevals, 'Hex Domestic' presents four new tracks showcasing their seamless cross-pollination of doom, psych, proto-punk, garage rock, and spoken word.
"[On] the Hex Domestic EP, the five-piece continue by putting their best foot forward, creating the kind of slacker sounds that cure hangovers. Songs that combat fumbling through pitch-black hallways consumed by A.M. dread with sleepy harmonies and a scuzzed out an alt-rock aesthetic that teleports you back to your youth." (Simon Kirk, Sun 13)

September 29th, 2024 - Arcaea, ProSeka
bwehh,,,, i knew i wasn't gonna get through much today, especially given how i had a full length work shift ahead of me, so i wanted to dedicate the early morning and late morning to getting as much rhythm gaming as i could before the Doomsday arrived... all in all? i managed to snag some really good scores!!! the new PMs added to my collection include Rain of Conflict in a Radiant Abyss (FTR-9, MAX-16) and Innocence (ETR-9+, MAX-24) as FTR/ETR PMs #196 and #197 respectively!
on another funny note, today was the 4th anniversary update for project sekai in japan!!! a ton was changed and a ton was added that kinda overwhelmed me in the moment, but -- this being a rhythm game account and my primary focus of proseka being on the rhythm aspect -- i was interested in the minor rhythm game changes... which were really funny actually!!! tokyo teddy bear was downrated, so there goes my 32 FC #6... but in its place, you had Silver Collector, Fixer(seriously?), and Bitter Choco Decoration getting rated up to 32s -- bringing up my total across both servers to 9 level 32 FCs!!! moreover, they held this gacha ticket campaign thing where you'd be rewarded in tickets for clearing and FC'ing charts of increasing level from Lvl. 15 ~ 37, so i tried upscoring Silver Collector to claim all the tickets i could feasibly get... and i did!!! with a resounding 6g FC!!!
the update was out now, sure, but i still Really wanted to hold off on playing at least until the season pass update... because that'd mean all my challenge show/daily multi bonus shows would go to the monthly pass, which would potentially have these anniversary feathers that hold so many rewards in store for me!!! and so, for the rest of the day, i'd only ever touch arcaea if i even had the chance to play a rhythm game during my shift... which i did, and promptly used to get a Pm on Primeval Texture (FTR-9, MAX-24) as FTR PM #198!!! 2 left to go until the big 200...

birthdays
Mirror post to this AO3 fanfic! Written for Doom’s 29th anniversary.
---
The Doom Slayer wasn't always the Primeval he is known for nowadays. He was once a mortal man, long ago, with his own complexities and strengths and weaknesses.
One of the many things he and his kind would make memories of moments last for as long as they live would be birthdays. And today was the day for him, so to speak. To think he only now would actually care that he had been born the most out of many other birthdays that had come to pass. Sagittarius was his birth constellation, and his blood type was AB+. Of course, he still remembered his own name. But he doubted that anyone would remember his. Not that they needed to know the truth of his identity.
He took this time to remember moments in his previous birthdays he cherished the most...
---
The first memory of his best birthdays was with his mother and little brother on his tenth birthday-- It was one of the many things a child could dream of-- A party, lots of food, cake and presents. His father wasn't around for it, but the whole family understood why. What made it a day to remember until now, however, was later that night when she visited his bedroom.
He was presented with an engagement ring-- She said this was a family tradition for mothers to give their sons this ring, so that they could propose to someone they deemed special, and give them said ring.
It was his most guarded possession, until later in his adulthood when he proposed to someone he would come to love.
---
Next was his fifteenth birthday, with a lot more friends than he had when he was ten. This was where he met some of his old military crew, and even then they weren't even soldiers in training yet! He felt like the coolest kid in Austin-- His home city, at that time. It was also when he met a girl who was his senior by four years. Who knew she would be the one to instruct him when he was called to train for military services.
---
A little more than nine years after that, and while he was in military service, he found himself spending some time with the love of his life-- Though the idea of dating a widow who has a son wasn't really on his bucket list. Not that he minded too much about. It's a sorrow what happened to her husband. He introduced her to his ma and gramps on his birthday. He later proposed to her, and later still, got married. Even if Vincent was but a stepson, he still counted as a son, and would love him like any parent would to their biological child.
Being assigned to missions is a pain in the ass since he had to be away from home so frequently, though. Still, he'd keep check on his family, and he got himself a family pet, too! It was a rabbit named Daisy.
---
Not even serving on Mars (and by extent, its two moons Phobos and Deimos) as punishment for disobeying AND heavily incapacitating his shithead of a superior officer would stop him from having his special day. While William Joseph Blazkowicz III initially hated his new assignment, it eventually grew on him as he met new colleagues-- He saw some of his friends stationed there, too! There also was Colonel Barnes, Sergeant Aladana, Pietrovich and everyone else he knew of. Of course, he wouldn't leave his family in the dark about his birthday party; Video conferences even from lightyears away helped keep everyone in touch.
But after that, nothing has ever been the same-- Part of science team in UAC devolving into a Hell-worshipping cult, a few people being dragged into it, the invasion, screams of staff members in the main city and both moon bases, him helping survivors escape, Crash's final order to him before she disappeared... Everything else that was to come...
---
With yet another calm before the storm, the Slayer should have celebrated the day he was brought to existence. But not many people to celebrate with anymore. Not his ma and gramps, not his little bro Stan, not Hailey, not Vinny, not Daisy, not his old military crew...
Pretty much not everyone he met who had died. Especially to those of Hell.
"Slayer," His current companion, an AI he saved from the fate of sacrifice when Mars got invaded again, broke the silence in a Sentinel station repurposed as his new, mobile home. "You are awfully quiet. What troubles you?"
The Slayer typed something, as to allow VEGA to read it. He can read whatever would be typed in. An invitation to chat instead?
BFG-9K: have you ever heard of birthdays?
VEGA: Well, yes. It's something humans celebrate. I can deduce that they do this to commemorate their coming of age, for as long as they live.
BFG-9K: mine's today. december 10th. 2003 was so many years back
BFG-9K: i miss the early 21st century...
VEGA: Happy birthday then, Slayer. What was the early 21st century like?
BFG-9K: i can only say that those days were much simpler. before the first mars incident, before the first hell on earth, before everything else... before you
VEGA: I see.
VEGA: You seem down from what I can see in our current conversation. Is there something you want to talk about?
BFG-9K: a whole damn lot. birthdays ain't just the same anymore after ages of constant fighting
BFG-9K: kinda tempted to vent. i might spoil this day like i have many birthdays ago doing that tho
VEGA: You don't have to if you don't want to. You have this day to yourself, Slayer. You can tell me later.
VEGA: All that matters that you live to see another day. Not many others will see the same sun as you.
BFG-9K: it still sucks, vega
VEGA: Better than nothing. You should cherish this day. At least I'm here to support you in any way I can.
BFG-9K: ...thanks
The Slayer stood up. Even if it's going to be just him at this point, he shouldn't beat himself up about everything that took place. For as long as the fight is still on, hope would burn ever brighter.

Evangeline, A Tale of Acadie: who is she and why is she important?
It was the 29th of July, 1920, when a bronze statue of Evangeline, the subject of H.W. Longfellow’s epic, was unveiled at Grand Pre. No Acadians were present and the ceremony was performed in English. But why do we celebrate this fictional heroine, why is Evangeline a cultural icon? Who IS Evangeline? And most importantly, who cares? For bronze Evangeline’s anniversary, those points exactly are ones that shall be addressed; I wish to take you, reader, on an... epic journey.
Evangeline, A Tale of Acadie takes place in the picturesque village of Grand Pre, situated on Nova Scotia’s Minas Basin. The fictional Evangeline Bellefontaine lives here with her father and her lover, Gabriel. From the beginning, a picture is painted of a sort of oceanside paradise, in the lines
This is the forest primeval. The murmuring pines and the hemlocks, Bearded with moss, and in garments green, indistinct in the twilight, Stand like Druids of eld, with voices sad and prophetic, Stand like harpers hoar, with beards that rest on their bosoms. Loud from its rocky caverns, the deep-voiced neighboring ocean Speaks, and in accents disconsolate answers the wail of the forest.
Yet in these opening lines, no people remain in the village. The once-busy village now lies empty, its occupants displaced overseas and overland, with only the remnants of farms and the landscape which holds onto the traditions of Acadie as a battlefield exposes its aftermath following the war.
It was Nathaniel Hawthorne who gave Longfellow the idea to write a story of two young Acadian lovers separated by the expulsion of 1755. However, Longfellow had never and would never actually visit Nova Scotia- he relied on sources such as the works of Thomas Chandler Haliburton and none other than Major-General John Winslow, who orchestrated the deportation out of Grand Pre. It was through these accounts that Longfellow brought Evangeline and her family, neighbours, and townspeople to life. But how did Evangeline become a cultural icon? Perhaps one approach to take would be the simplest: Longfellow’s writing.
Longfellow’s flowery, Victorian prose allows the reader to imagine exactly the scenery and people mentioned in the story. It’s highly emotional, evocative, and poetic beyond description. The scene is rustic, simple, and above all, it’s traditional. This is an extremely important theme to bear in mind when discussing Evangeline. From the one-room thatch-roofed houses to the singing of the women as they work their spinning wheels, Longfellow emphasizes the sights and sounds of a traditional Acadian village of the time. Of course, Evangeline and her lover, Gabriel, are eventually separated by the deportation and so Evangeline begins a long quest to reunite with her lost love (which she eventually does, spoiler alert). It is her perseverance and might that makes Evangeline an icon of the deportation, representing the Acadian spirit.
Or does she?
Grand Pre is described in Evangeline as “the home of the happy,” where “the richest was poor, and the poorest lived in abundance.” Being Acadian, people descended from France, they are French Catholic, and are thus described as being a very pious, simple, happy people. And perhaps this is true to a degree, however do keep in mind that we are discussing a people brutally displaced from their homeland and nearly eradicated, who suffered terribly yet continue to thrive today. The manner in which Longfellow describes the people of Grand Pre is generous, yet does undermine the strength of the Acadian people. This might be due to the simple fact that Longfellow never in his lifetime made it to Nova Scotia.
As I’d mentioned previously, Longfellow’s references included accounts from Haliburton and Winslow, who were- you guessed it!- very much not Acadian. Winslow was, of course, responsible for much of the suffering out of Grand Pre. To rely so heavily on his accounts and take those as gospel, to take them at face value, would be like looking through the eyes of the oppressor. It’s for this reason that the story of Evangeline needs to be taken with some modicum of caution. The strength and determination shown by our fictional heroine is a sort of beacon owing to the same strength of real-life Acadians; this is why Evangeline is widely regarded as an important cultural icon in Acadian society.
References to Evangeline Bellefontaine can be seen everywhere in Acadian villages. Though Longfellow’s story is heavily romanticized, she has become someone for us to be proud of. Today, at Grand Pre National Historic Site, one can visit the memorial church and view her statue just outside, maybe even take a short stroll over to Evangeline’s Well in the same area. Whether one likes the epic or not is totally subjective, however this is a quick glimpse into who “Evangeline” is and her significance to the Acadians of Nova Scotia.

Look, he'd be a more likeable character for me if he wasn't so hyper-competent (he's a helicopter flying, latin speaking, sword fighting, backflipping super cop amongst other things.)
Also he seems to become the main character immediately. With matt and nick as team leader while a lot of the story does focus on them theres still room for other characters to have story's and subplots, but with danny it feels like it all needs to relate back to him in some way. (Abbys brother goes missing and he takes action because he also lost a brother through an anomaly rather than anything centered around abby).
He also seems to have a lot of ideas that just involve putting Connor in danger and then improvising.
Speaking of connor, for some reason, when danny is present connor does a lot of stuff that would make more sense for abby to do, while she doesn't really do anything (especially terror bird episode).
And he undermined sarah a couple of times, so you know: he deserves death.
Also hes introduced as a dick headed cop who threatened to shoot an innocent guy.
(Also its kinda irritating how much crime he actively committed considering he has a police background)
Tldr: I'd probably hate him less if he had nearly any other job and didn't take up every episode he was in.
What's with all the Danny animosity in the tag today, I love that guy, he's so weird and fucked up and I want to put him in a little enclosure and study him under a microscope.

29th September >> Mass Readings (Except USA)
Feast of Saints Michael, Gabriel and Raphael, Archangels
(Liturgical Colour: White: A (1))
Either:
First Reading Daniel 7:9-10,13-14 His robe was white as snow.
As I watched:
Thrones were set in place and one of great age took his seat. His robe was white as snow, the hair of his head as pure as wool. His throne was a blaze of flames, its wheels were a burning fire. A stream of fire poured out, issuing from his presence. A thousand thousand waited on him, ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him. A court was held and the books were opened.
I gazed into the visions of the night.
And I saw, coming on the clouds of heaven, one like a son of man. He came to the one of great age and was led into his presence. On him was conferred sovereignty, glory and kingship, and men of all peoples, nations and languages became his servants. His sovereignty is an eternal sovereignty which shall never pass away, nor will his empire ever be destroyed.
The Word of the Lord
R/ Thanks be to God.
Or:
First Reading Apocalypse 12:7-12 Michael with his angels attacked the dragon.
Now war broke out in heaven, when Michael with his angels attacked the dragon. The dragon fought back with his angels, but they were defeated and driven out of heaven. The great dragon, the primeval serpent, known as the devil or Satan, who had deceived all the world, was hurled down to the earth and his angels were hurled down with him. Then I heard a voice shout from heaven, ‘Victory and power and empire for ever have been won by our God, and all authority for his Christ, now that the persecutor, who accused our brothers day and night before our God, has been brought down. They have triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the witness of their martyrdom, because even in the face of death they would not cling to life. Let the heavens rejoice and all who live there.’
The Word of the Lord
R/ Thanks be to God.
Responsorial Psalm Psalm 137(138):1-5
R/ In the presence of the angels I will bless you, O Lord.
I thank you, Lord, with all my heart: you have heard the words of my mouth. In the presence of the angels I will bless you. I will adore before your holy temple.
R/ In the presence of the angels I will bless you, O Lord.
I thank you for your faithfulness and love, which excel all we ever knew of you. On the day I called, you answered; you increased the strength of my soul.
R/ In the presence of the angels I will bless you, O Lord.
All earth’s kings shall thank you when they hear the words of your mouth. They shall sing of the Lord’s ways: ‘How great is the glory of the Lord!’
R/ In the presence of the angels I will bless you, O Lord.
Gospel Acclamation Psalm 102:21
Alleluia, alleluia! Give thanks to the Lord, all his hosts, his servants who do his will. Alleluia!
Gospel John 1:47-51 You will see heaven laid open, and the Son of Man.
When Jesus saw Nathanael coming he said of him, ‘There is an Israelite who deserves the name, incapable of deceit.’ ‘How do you know me?’ said Nathanael. ‘Before Philip came to call you,’ said Jesus ‘I saw you under the fig tree.’ Nathanael answered, ‘Rabbi, you are the Son of God, you are the King of Israel.’ Jesus replied, ‘You believe that just because I said: I saw you under the fig tree. You will see greater things than that.’ And then he added ‘I tell you most solemnly, you will see heaven laid open and, above the Son of Man, the angels of God ascending and descending.’
The Gospel of the Lord
R/ Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
