Cennino D' Andrea Cennini's Il Libro dell' Arte (The Craftsman's Handbook, translated by Daniel V. Thompson) is available for free online in what appears to be the full text. The Il Libro dell' Arte was written in the 15th century and is basically a late Medieval art how-to book.
I'm hoarding it for the helm crest making part, but it also has:
Making Glue out of Lime and Cheese
How to Paint a Dead Man
Actually quite a lot on making coloured pigments

I feel like the Primaris should have been the catalyst for like, an imperial civil war. At the very least, much unrest in the house of Guilliman. Their existence, let alone rollout/integration, should have had many chapters absolutely rioting. It should be beyond the pale by several orders of magnitude and be seen as an enormous overreach by the more autonomy loving chapters, a blasphemy by the more orthodox chapters, and an existential threat to chapters with geneseed quirks. Plus anyone with any awareness of the thunder warriors should take one look at them and recognize the writing on the wall. Guilliman should absolutely recognize what they represent, what they imply. Like they're the leading wave of a paradigm shift that doesn't bode well for what came before. And I say this as someone who's not averse to Primaris, I just think they could've, should've, been a waaaay bigger deal. I know they loathe changing the status quo and we're never getting rid of the posterboys but I think we missed out on something interesting.
#40k#primaris marines#like if anything I think they should have made them even more different than oldmarines#to the point where they very literally *are* intended to be upgrades in some fashion#either in ease/reliability of creation or actual ability#or both#I personally would have had them be “streamlined” astartes that lack a lot of “advanced/niche” features of marines#in exchange for a much less demanding selection process and a much higher survival rate#augmented by Cawl-designed (and ofc primaris only) gear that Bobby G is putting a lot of resources into stockpiling#Primaris should be a revision to the design meant to address the flaws and weaknesses of the Astartes *from guilliman's perspective*#easier to produce easier to replace more reliant on imperial supply lines and locked down so they can't rebel without leaving everything#ultima founding chapters also should have had *very* short leashes and been Minotaurs tier agents of Imperial will#maybe even have some that are clearly out to eat other chapters' lunch and occupy their niches#especially problematic/autonomous chapters#hammer home the “we're replacing you with the upgraded models” message

star wars outlaws
#star wars outlaws#kay vess#nix#did a brief detour into this game it isn't bad! but certainly lacks in polish for core loops. tutorialization pipelines are ass also#performance - also ass. had to play quality on ps5 for it to have any clarity at all. but the open world is gorgeous#and it certainly nails the very narrow target of horse girl star wars fantasy (ripping across tatooine on a speeder with a little Guy)#nix is everything I love him. modern star wars rarely captivates me but they do know how to do lil guys real well#my photos#star wars#also-also. would be remiss not to mention. never played a game with unregulated scope creep this noticeable before. it's baffling#I KNOW people crunched on this it's in the walls in the floorboards it's everywhere. unmitigated hodge podge of mechanics and pillars#and those pillars are often unbalanced between each other. storytelling payloads are an issue too. there's pre-rendered in-engine cutscenes#real-time in-engine cutscenes. and digic-produced full CG cutscenes. and their placement and prioritization feels insane and inscrutable#like three different teams were working on the game at the same time and never in congress or coordination#it also suffers from the open world 4th and 5th priority narrative payload issues - many secondary and sometimes even primary questgiving#and expository dialogues are in-game zoomed camera lipsync exchanges. or flavor text#on the other hand - surprisingly deft mission design itself? side quests reward either cosmetics or actual unlockable deployable skills#it has fleeting genes of a metroidvania spread across a wide open world in that sense. but only fleeting. the rep system is a smokescreen#and progression in general has a very open and unsatisfying end to it. this game needed less scope and maybe no space stuff at all#the resulting resource allocation adjustment would truly make for a captivating open world adventure. as it stands it feels like#a product of overworked people misusing mismanaged budgets and managing to sprinkle some love into it regardless#games should never be good on the merit of their perceivable seasoning of overwork and passion. that really only bakes a sadness cake

I need to stop watching medical dramas. It hurts to see doctors trying everything they can to figure out someone's symptoms when that really doesn't happen in the real world.
#like. shoutout to my primary who has actually done research into treatments for me#but hes a PA with limited time and resources (we are in a fairly rural area and my clinic serves a ton of people)#so like. referals go nowhere and my symptoms are still mostly unexplained#especially when like. doctors dont expect to fix you?#idk when i saw my neurologist for the first time i tried to give him an overview of all my symptoms and he said#verbatim#'well you cant expect me to fix all that'#and i was. idk. shocked#i wasnt even trying to get him to 'fix' me i was just trying to give some context and history#yknow. the thing necessary to diagnose people#but instead he misdiagnosed me and put me on meds that didnt work and suggested experimental brain surgery for a disorder i dont have#same thing happened with my pulmonologist. i explained my symptoms (because HE ASKED ME TO) and then refused to take them into account#its not every doctor. but its every specialist ive seen. every single one#and its frustrating#like. i just dont have answers or adequate treatment or anything#and my health keeps getting worse#idk man#disability sucks

Okay, used https://ballotpedia.org/Main_Page and https://www.vote411.org to pick my votes for today. Going after work.
You can put in your address and see the races you’ll be voting in, and you can get the biographies of the candidates and see their answers to some questions. Vote411 lets you select your candidates and then you can see the list and print it out to take to the polls with you.
Also there's TurboVote: https://turbovote.org/ This site can help you get registered and find your polling place, and I'm signed up to get reminders of elections that I can vote in.

The closest character to Kokomi in terms of similarities is Alhaitham. They both want to essentially do what interests them the most (read) and be left alone. Both are quite intuitive about understanding and predicting situations and people. The difference is that Kokomi feels a higher level of responsibility over her environment then Alhaitham. She feels more obligated to do what she doesn’t want to do while Alhaitham just cannot be bothered.
#character analysis#where they differ in typology is that alhaitham is an istp while kokomi is…. i think an xntj#perceivers seek control over their inner environment while judgers seek control out of their outer environment#i.e. perceivers are constantly working and reworking their internal logic/values so they remain consistent and harmonious#on the other hand judgers are constantly arranging their outer environments so that they run the most (socially/logically) efficient#also the difference in temperament is bc alhaitham is a 9w8 while kokomi is a 5w6#the former’s emotional driving force is anger while the latter’s is fear#what i can’t tell is if she’s soc-blind or not#she can go either way#the hard thing abt typing judgers is because they are primarily concerned with their outer environment they are forced to interact with it#so they can unintentionally look soc when they are really not#the primary concern with the soc(ial) variant is to upkeep their place in society#speaking from an evolutionary standpoint this is how they ensure their survival#they share their resources with others and they treat them in kind. that’s why they upkeep their place in society#realistically tho these people are the types that remember everyone they meet. they always know what’s going on with everyone etc#people that fall mainly in this category are yoimiya amber bennett thoma#people that are like this but less strong are kazuha chongyun lisa ayaka shinobu#people that don’t fall into that category at all are tighnari alhaitham keqing yelan ayato#so hmmm

Building Strong Sentence Structure in Young Children: A Guide for Parents and Teachers
Building strong sentence structure is foundational for a child's language development, paving the way for clear communication and academic success. This guide will equip parents and teachers with effective strategies to help young learners master this essential skill.
Why is Sentence Structure Important?
Well-formed sentences are crucial for a child's overall development:
Improved Reading Comprehension: Understanding how sentences are constructed enhances reading fluency and comprehension.
Enhanced Writing Skills: Strong sentence structure is the bedrock of effective written communication, from simple sentences to complex paragraphs.
Cognitive Development: Learning to organize thoughts into coherent sentences strengthens cognitive skills like logic, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
Foundational Strategies
Building a strong foundation for sentence structure begins with understanding the core components:
Subject (or Doer of the Action for simple sentences): This is the noun or pronoun that performs the action in the sentence. For example, in "The cat sleeps," "cat" is the subject.
Verb (or Action Word for simple sentences): This is the word that describes the action being performed by the subject. In the example above, "sleeps" is the verb.
By introducing these fundamental concepts early on, children can begin to grasp the basic structure of a sentence.
Engaging Learning Activities
Learning should be an enjoyable experience. Here are some fun and effective ways to engage young children:
Play Games:
"I Spy": "I spy with my little eye something blue (adjective)."
"Go Fish": "Do you have the red (adjective) card (noun)?"
"Simon Says": "Simon says jump (verb)!"
Sing Songs and Rhymes: Many nursery rhymes and children's songs utilize simple sentence structures, making them excellent learning tools.
Tell Stories: Encourage children to retell simple stories using their own words, prompting them to use complete sentences.
Real-World Applications
Connecting sentence structure to everyday experiences reinforces learning:
Describe Everyday Activities: "We are eating (action word) breakfast (noun)."
Give Simple Instructions: "Please put (action word) your toys (noun) away."
Engage in Conversations: Ask open-ended questions that encourage children to use complete sentences in their responses. For example, instead of "What did you do at school today?" ask, "Can you tell me one thing you did at school today?"
Visual Learning Aids
Visual aids can make abstract concepts more concrete for young learners:
Use Picture Cards: Flashcards with pictures of objects, actions, and adjectives can help children visualize and identify key elements of a sentence.
Draw and Write Together: Encourage children to draw pictures and then write simple sentences to describe their drawings.
Use Sentence Strips: Cut strips of paper and write individual words on each strip. Have children arrange the strips to form complete sentences.
Educational Apps: Many educational apps incorporate interactive games and activities that teach sentence structure.
Educational Videos: Engaging videos can introduce sentence concepts, demonstrate sentence building, and provide visual examples. Here's a Youtube video that spark sentence structure awareness:
youtube
Interactive Whiteboards: In a classroom setting, interactive whiteboards can be used for collaborative sentence building exercises and games.
Creating a Supportive Learning Environment
Praise and Reinforce Efforts: Celebrate every attempt to form a sentence, even if it's not perfect. Positive reinforcement encourages continued effort.
Be Patient with Mistakes: Children are still learning. Avoid harsh corrections. Focus on guiding and supporting their language development.
Focus on Communication: The primary goal is to encourage clear and effective communication. Grammatical perfection will come with time and practice.
The Power of Reading Aloud
Reading aloud provides invaluable exposure to language:
Choose Books with Simple Sentence Structures: Picture books and early reader books are excellent resources.
Discuss the Stories: Ask questions about the characters, plot, and the way the story is told. Guide children to identify different sentence types (e.g., "Look, this sentence tells us what the dog is doing!").
Conclusion
By incorporating these strategies into daily routines, parents and teachers can effectively guide young children in their journey of language development. Remember to keep learning fun and engaging, and celebrate every milestone along the way.

why are you hellions beefing with me on a post that’s two years old.
#And intentionally misinterpreting what I was saying of course#besties I didn’t say dolphins don’t do things for fun what on earth are you two on about#me: the primary reason for animal migration is to follow resources#these weirdos: OH SO YOU THINK A DOLPHIN ONLY LIVE FOR FOOD NEVER HAVE FUN HUH YOU PUT HIM IN TINY BUCKET??#not at all what I was trying to say my point was that just because an animal is migratory doesn’t mean it needs 150k miles of enclosure#because an animal typically is not traveling that distance for fun#and there are other ways to keep an animal healthy and happy in a zoo setting#that aren’t just making infinitely larger enclosures#yes there are minimum requirements for enclosure size to properly keep the animal#no a dolphin does not need 100 square miles of deep water to be satisfied

Ok also it's something that I've been thinking about and I think something that would have helped Gridania a lot is a rival faction. Like Ul'dah, you instantly have two factions that function pretty effective as good guys and bad guys. Limsa is less clear cut, but its made clear that while the Admiral is the leader, there's a bunch of pirate crews and trying to get them all to work together is like herding cats, because they all have their own priorities and rivalries and such. Gridania has...Kan-E-Senna, who's the boss, and then....nothing. Nobody for her to play off, nobody for us to contrast her against and go "oh, so this is what she's dealing with and why she can't just solve every issue." Like if there was some kinda powerful, entrenched Hearer community that was opposing her, or a faction propping someone else up as Elder Seedseer, or just any kind of force that makes us go "oh no! we're in your corner, Kan-E-Senna!" instead she's just the figurehead for a system where Bad Things Happen- and unlike everywhere else, where we can point to causes or reasons why solutions wouldn't work so easily, the takeaway from most of Gridania's issues has to be "Kan-E-Senna is just bad at doing her job."
#ffxiv#like I guess. I like the Elementals in theory and I think making them evil makes for a more boring story#but also they do a very very bad job of showing us why Gridania's issues cant be like. dealt with.#Like if the primary issue is prejudice against Duskwrights and Mooncats and Ixal and stuff leading to a negative spiral#of 'marginalized group needs resources' to 'elementals get angry that they're overstepping the treaties' to 'gridanians treat them worse'#then maybe like. address that.#and I just think if we had a face for more conservative gridanians#to say 'we should just drive those people out of the black shroud! the elementals will it!"#then we could have Kan-E trying to argue against them and find a more peaceful solution for everyone#and go 'oh! she sees the issues in her community and she's trying!'

it's actually gotten to the point where i scroll through online shops and get increasingly frustrated because i want nothing they have. i want nice fabric and a nice pattern and the time and skills to make a nice dress to my own measurements, not a plastic garment that will sit on my body uncomfortably. the options i have for buying stuff when i do need it are so dissatisfying
#i went on a shopping trip with my mam and my sister at some point this year and it was strange#because i found the process frustrating and i felt extremely dissatisfied and annoyed afterwards too. even though i had bought some trousers#there was no joy attached to it#and that kinda made me realise that shopping did use to have satisfaction attached to it for me!#and then recently i read a paper on degrowth where the author argued that the primary source of satisfaction in our society is consumption#and that in order to save the planet and its resources we have to move away from that and find new sources of satisfaction#and i was like!! yes that resonates with me! i do not gain satisfaction primarily from consuming things anymore#and it made me feel very disconnected and confused because it seems like i should and i did used to#so yeah. always great when academia puts something into words i couldn't formulate#*t

I will always be somewhat angry that the US gay marriage debate overwhelmingly focused on "well actually the Bible DOES support homosexuality!" instead of "your religion should not dictate whether I have the legal rights granted by marriage"
#m/cc#negative#yes I know there were people saying that#but the 'debate' was hugely focused on debunking the Christian approach when in reality it shouldn't have mattered#I understand that in many (most?) scholarly religious interpretations the Bible does not condemn gay people#Queer Theology was a resource that gave me a lot of comfort back in the day and I highly recommend it#I get that their argument wasn't valid to begin with and that it's an important conversation to have#but *whether or not Christianity agrees with it should not have been the primary debate*#Jewish weddings are still legal marriage. weddings between non-Christians are still legal marriage. this is about civil rights not religion#it's incredibly messed up that we had to defend our status through the Christian view instead of human rights#'freedom of religion' > 'one nation under God'

I forgot to post that I graduated from residency in September and I just started working last Friday. I love my community health center. I'm so glad I made it and I want to be the best doctor I can be.😊🏽⚕️
If you do primary care or psychiatry in Massachusetts and at least 40% of your patients have MassHealth or are uninsured, then you can apply for MassHealth student loan repayment programs. They offer PCPs up to $100,000 in loan repayment for working with this population for at least 4 years! Application opens today, November 14th!
I'm obviously applying! I was considering National Health Service Corps, but they only pay up to a maximum of $75,000 if you work for an FQHC for 10 years. MARepay will give you up to a maximum of $100,000 for serving for 4 years. But apparently, you can't be enrolled in any other loan repayment program to participate in MARepay.
