the prettyboyzation of south park characters is endlessly entertaining to me because they literally look like this

jokes aside, why is ogata fujo’d by far more than any other character in the show? it reminds me a bit of when isayama said he knew levi’s emo design would be popular with the fujoshis and i guess ogatas is similar in some ways, maybe that’s it?

hmmm let me stretch out my legs while in my leather chair as i bite into a cigar trying to channel the inner sigmundchansona.

i think there are two reasons for this phenomenon:

1. ogata is easily the most popular and divisive gk character, he's practically the face of gk in both jpn and western fandoms. statistically, the larger the number of a group of people, the larger are the chances of encountering clusters of nutjobs, weirdos, fujos and other kinds of fascinating individuals. it's not that ogata only has annoying fans, it's that, due to him being the most popular character, he attracts a variety of people, and a lot of them happen to be annoying. it's due to the sample size. fujos generally tend to be one of the most vocal and active fandom demographic no matter where you turn. so naturally, if most fandom fujos will designate him as their special little meow meow, he'll be prevalent in their content.

2. gk is actually not as fujo-friendly as it seems - it does attract a lot of women who have a steamy gay smex fetish because its cast is 98% male (so many opportunities for the hawt yaoiz!), but it doesn't deliver aesthetically. there's this century old joke that while fujos love slapping the salmon to the sight of two anime men in embrace, they recoil with disgust at real gay men when they don't deliver visually because they're more often than not very far away from looking like their idealized fantasy. noda is very well aware of that by the way, he expressed his disdain towards prettyboyz before. don't forget - BL is written by women for women, and gk is much closer to the gay manga (known as bara colloquially) than the BL aesthetic. between this:

which one is closer to gk's vibe? lol. the way male-attracted women and male-attracted men are attracted to men tends to be quite different. overlapping is possible, sure, individual taste and whatnot, but generally it's different. gk's brand of hypermasculinity is more in line with the male vision because noda is a man exploring his fantasies who writes for a general audience and not a woman trying to cater to a female audience.

due to this kind of differences the "twinkish", as they say, catboy nonsense kind of character archetype/stereotype tends to be way more popular with women than with men. the kind of lithe, androgynous, young, brooding, flamboyant, pretty-faced kind of male has always been very popular with women - think 00s emo boys, think 80s rock stars - and it transcribed very well into BL, where the majority of the characters are just like that (either both of them in different ways, or the uke). so i can see why isayama would accurately predict that levi would be popular with that demographic. ogata simply happens to be the closest to that; noda did say that he's trying to draw him as traditionally prettyboyish. tanigaki, kiroranke and ushiyama are nowhere around ogata, sugimoto or koito in terms of fujo admirers, why is that? koito is also there, and it's the reason there's SO many fujos into koito too, there's just more ogata because look at point 1 - he's simply more popular.

now keep in mind that i'm not male, not male-attracted, and not an ogata truther, so i'm playing pin the tail on the donkey blindfolded here, all i can do is talk of personal observations and deductions, therefore take my words with a grain of salt. i am right tho <3

the moment she saw the mass text from mabel linking to something new the prettyboyz were doing, poppy knew it wasn’t about to be good. as far as she knew guy didn’t have any real concrete work plans with the boys today and considering mabel was so excited about whatever this link was it had to be something big. “oh no,” she breathes out when she finally clicks it and the opening shots of jello show up on her screen. it only took her a few minutes to grab lily rose and leave a few of instructions for her employees before she was out the door and in her car, heading over towards the home that guy was sharing with all the boys now. and as she pulled into the driveway and got her daughter out of the car seat, poppy pulled out her phone to send him a text that she was here and about to head inside. @guyydiamond​

Her entire life, Teri has never been particularly well known for making good decisions, but her choice to avoid Chip has to be one of her worst. Not only does she miss him, not realizing just how much time she spent talking to him every day until suddenly she isn’t, but she has no idea how to explain the sudden distance. She pushed the thought out of her mind time after time, sure she could figure out something before she saw him again, but before she knew it the LA show as upon them and she still has nothing but feeble excuses. Loud male voices ringing through the building is enough to signify the PRETTYBOYZ arrival, and after instinctively checking her hair and makeup in the mirror, she crosses the room to poke her head out of the dressing room door. If she thought nearly a month without talking to Chip would be enough to get over her blatantly obvious feelings for him she was dead wrong, her heart doing a small flip in her chest as soon as she sees him. It takes all the strength she has not to run and jump into his arms like she usually does, forcing herself to stay planted where she is instead. “Hey,” she smiles softly, leaning against the doorframe as she gives him a tentative wave. It’s the first time in nearly a year of knowing him that she finds herself at a loss for words, the silence that stretches between them now so painfully awkward that she regrets coming out at all. // @chippyskylark​

mel’s free time is limited -- it has been since the band started, but she makes her peace with the fact that a busy touring schedule takes even more of her time away. but no matter how busy she gets, she can never turn down someone who needs her help in any way. being paired with phil as her dance partner for reggaeton lento had started out as a minor setback but quickly blossomed into a weird kind of maybe friendship. so, she takes her promise to help him out very seriously, and surprisingly phil is keeping up his end of the deal and showing up on time to all their schedule google meets. she doesn’t expect today’s to be any different, especially not with jello being leaked sometime earlier in the day. what would have been an apologetic greeting for anyone else in the prettyboyz turns into an excited congratulatory greeting for phil. as much as mel understands the other boys’ stress with being stuck with such a bad song, she knows phil was so proud of his first real contribution to the group and it’d be such an asshole move not to celebrate that with him. besides, the worst line in the song wasn’t the one phil added, so that was a win in itself. “you’re a songwriter!” mel greets happily applauding phil once he enters the meet. “you contributed more to jello than chip and skip did to reggaeton lento combined. how’s that feel?” @dirtydeville​

there are many things chip second guesses -- just about every aspect of his life is subject to him picking apart as he replays it in his mind. but he’d never thought in a million years saying hi to someone would be one of those moments. when he’d come into the mystery shack with the intention of bringing wendy lunch, he didn’t think he’d run into (who he assumes is) mabel. and once he sees the way the girl stares at him, eyes wide and bright, he’s certain he does indeed have the right girl. “are you....not mabel?” he asks. maybe he doesn’t have the right girl. or, maybe she’s just caught off guard by the fact that he knows her name -- which, all things considered, is fair. “i’m chip.” he smiles brightly, pushing past his momentary confusion. “i’m a friend of,” and he pauses. the truth is he’s a friend of both wendy and dipper, but he’d been told specifically that dipper doesn’t want his sister to know that he knows the prettyboyz. “wendy. i know wendy. what’s up?” @mabelgrl

Louise wanted to slap most of the boys in PRETTYBOYZ, that was a given. One of them she has slapped if she counted her brother. But Skip was so....gorgeously infuriating that she wanted to straight-up punch him. And seeing him in this Santa costume that still somehow showed off his nice butt and boyish charm just made Louise....angry.
