As the last person to catch C19 for the first time, here’s what I’ve been watching while quarantine in my room for 6 days and general feedback:

Watching for the first time The West Wing, 2 seasons so far. It’s a great show. The Xmas epi season 1 where the Veteran died was such a hood storyline. I’ve been brought to tears many times so far. Looking forward to the rest of the show. Allison Janey and Rob Lowe have the best characters. Crushing on Bradley Whitfield after hating him in Handmaids Tale

Re watching Pretty little Liars. This show is funny and so many twists I can’t wait to see it all again. It’s been a while and I forgot a lot. How tf is Ezra not in jail for dating Aria is the biggest question, not who is A.

Various poker documentaries, also a blackjack one that was interesting. I think it was good only because the subject wasn’t ugly and it was recommended by a guy who was also not ugly and interesting. I think I could card count with some practice but my good friend MC is super smart and would be a great card counter I will discuss next time I see her. She loves blackjack already

Tried to start the latest season on Curb Your Enthusiasm - a show o truly love- and I couldn’t engage but will circle back

Patriot (on Prime) is good! I’m fitting an episode here and there in when I’ve gone too far into TWW. The Brazilians sub plot is very funny.

Surprisingly I’m not binging Survivor past seasons. I’ve only watched the most current episode and am rooting for Carolyn, duh. I like Jam Jam too but he will get voted out for sure

Have not watched any Harry Potter, don’t hate it I love it! But the recent JKR drama for TERF double down has me sour for a bit.

Part of the Network’s Annual “Countdown to Christmas” Programming Event

STUDIO CITY, CA – November 15, 2022 – Clare Bowen (“Nashville,” “Sand Dollar Cove”) and Brant Daugherty (“Pretty Little Liars,” “A Royal Runaway Romance”) pose as the “ideal couple” in “#Xmas,” a new, original movie premiering Friday, November 25 (6 p.m. ET/PT), on Hallmark Channel as part of the network’s annual “Countdown to Christmas” programming event. 

When Jen, (Bowen) an up-and-coming interior designer, discovers that Hygge Home, the premiere design brand, is having a contest to select a resident designer, she is thrilled to get a chance at the opportunity until she realizes that the contest is focused on social media. Jen wants to be taken seriously for her talent and lets the quality of her designs speak for themselves in her simple yet tasteful social media posts. She avoids revealing anything personal in her posts because it’s all about her work. With encouragement from her best friend Max (Daugherty), she decides to apply to the contest posing as “Jen T,” a put-together design influencer with Max playing her husband and her nephew as their baby. To their surprise, she is selected as a finalist and is torn continuing to play the perfect family or telling the truth. In the process of manufacturing the perfect home, family, and lifestyle to win the contest, Jen develops deeper bonds with her mother, sister and Max, who she finally sees in a romantic light. Along the way she discovers that there’s nothing like the real thing.

Quickfire Encanto Review

So Encanto came out recently, I didn't know what it was about but I had Xmas downtime (Merry Christmas btw, or Happy Holidays if you are stringently anti-Christmas) so I watched it and here's some quick thoughts

Spoilers for the movie obviously

I enjoyed it quite a bit, I scouted that Abuela would be the bridge needed to be mended pretty early mind you, so it did feel like Isabela and Luisa's stuff was a bit of padding, which was also odd because this film isn't that long at all, it certainly could've gone a lot longer.

Honestly, I don't see why the family and community give Mirabel so much grief, like a lot of the time they're a bit of a dick to her and she just takes it because she's genuinely nice and comforting. I guess the film does get a little hurt by the fact that it's such a simple fix of being nice to your granddaughter. Also she's really pretty.

'We don't talk about Bruno' is probably my favourite song in the movie, narrowly second is 'Surface Pressure', I did enjoy all the songs and of course the later songs but this one just about tops it, maybe it's the Camilo part, or maybe it's the showmanship. It's also at this song I noticed all the different dancing in the songs too which I liked. Also I wonder if they made the outcast relative called Bruno as a direct 'Silencio Bruno' nod from Luca.

Dolores confuses me though, she's either a liar or oblivious because her super hearing for sure would've heard cracks in the casita, not to mention Abuela mentioning the cracks. I could kinda see her trying to hint that Bruno lives in the house with the 'rats talking in the walls' comment but why be coy? Also why can't she keep a secret for longer than 5 minutes? She can hear everything but she can't keep the vision to herself for this proposal? Probably would've worked better if it was worked kinda in a way of her trying to sabotage the proposal, because she fancies this Mariano. Dunno it kinda felt like Dolores' powers could've cut the quest in half. Also the fact that she hears everything is pretty traumatizing when you have to think about all the nsfw stuff she'll have to hear in the whole community...

I'm not sure why Luisa's powers wane either, surely venting and embracing Mirabel is supposed to better her connection to her gift like Isabela's did? Kinda felt like it was done only because we needed to feed the misdirect of Mirabel being the cause by doing this.

We all need to ask what Bruno's skincare routine was though because he does not look like he's the same age as Pepa and Julieta

But it got really warm at the end with the inevitable reconciliation and the community coming together to rebuild the house. I'm on the fence about them getting their powers back after saying 'the miracle wasn't your gifts it was you' but it is something I can live with, can Mirabel at least get a proper bedroom though? Even if it isn't some magic TARDIS ecosystem room. I could definitely see Disney pushing a spinoff slice of life kinda series of the Madrigals if it grosses enough.

But to summarize; nice film, nice message, great score and songs but wouldn't have hurt to dedicate a little more time to fleshing out the plot's suspense and the side characters' insecurities.
