Gesundheitszustand von Assange bedroht

Wir dürfen Julian Assange nicht sterben lassen

Im Rahmen der mit der Humanistische Nachrichtenagentur Pressenza, Weltnetz.tv, Neue Debatte, Peira.org, Nuevo Debate und dem unabhängigen und gemeinnützigen Nachrichtenmagazin acTVismM wollen wir hier Teile des Berichts über die Aktionen vom Mittwoch wiedergeben, die bei uns zu kurz gekommen sind.

Reto Thumiger berichtet bei pressenza über die beiden Veranstaltungen.

Assange ist gesundheitlich sichtlich gezeichnet vom jahrelangen Botschaftsasyl, von der Einzelhaft und von der steten Drohung der Auslieferung an die USA, wo er bis zu seinem Lebensende weggesperrt werden soll. Er ist in den USA nach einem Spionagegesetz aus der Zeit des 1. Weltkrieges angeklagt und ihm drohen 175 Jahre Gefängnis, vielleicht sogar die Todesstrafe. Von einem fairen Auslieferungsverfahren kann keine Rede sein. Seine grundlegenden Rechte auf Vorbereitung seiner Verteidigung wurden ihm verweigert, sein Zugang zu Rechtsberatung und zu Dokumenten stark eingeschränkt. An ihm soll ganz offensichtlich ein Exempel statuiert werden, das andere davon abschrecken soll, über Kriegsverbrechen und Korruption aufzuklären.

Die Skulptur „Anything to say?” wurde am 1. Mai 2015 mit einem Kunstevent  vor der amerikanischen Botschaft in Berlin eingeweiht. Nachdem sie in 12 europäischen Städten Halt gemacht hat, kehrt sie heute wieder zur Aktion „Medien unter Beschuss“ nach Berlin zurück. Sie repräsentiert Julian Assange, Edward Snowden und Chelsea Manning. „Die Wahrheit ist der erste Schritt in Richtung Freiheit und Demokratie“, sagt der Künstler Davide Dormino nach der Enthüllung und die Skulpturen möchte jene unterstützen und ihnen Mut machen, die die Wahrheit verteidigen. Sevim Dagdelen, MdB, Fraktion DIE LINKE bezeichnete Assanges Verfolgung „einen Angriff auf den investigativen Journalismus, auf die Pressefreiheit und auf die Demokratie“.

Julian Assange und WikiLeaks haben die Weltöffentlichkeit über Kriegsverbrechen der USA in Irak und Afghanistan informiert. Nicht diejenigen, die diese Verbrechen befohlen und begangen haben, stehen am Pranger und vor Gericht, sondern derjenigen, die sie öffentlich gemacht haben. Julian Assange hat einen wichtigen Beitrag für Frieden, Aufklärung und Demokratie geleistet.

Sahra Wagenknecht, die ebenfalls ans Rednermikrofon trat, würdigte Assange dafür, die Wahrheit über die Verbrechen und den Schrecken des Krieges ans Licht gebracht zu haben. Nun sei es an uns, ihm einen Dienst zu erweisen. „Wir dürfen es nicht zulassen, dass Julian Assange getötet wird und sein Leben ist in großer Gefahr. Davor haben 60 Ärzte aus 8 Ländern die britische Regierung eindringlich gewarnt.“, so Wagenknecht weiter.

Assange wird in der Haft in Belmarsh systematisch zerstört und weist alle Anzeichen psychischer Folter auf, wie der UN-Sonderberichterstatter Nils Melzer festgestellt hat. Es ist erschreckend, dass in einem Mitgliedsland der europäischen Union solche Zustände herrschen und dass die Hilferufe für Julian Assange bei allen Mitgliedsländern der EU ungehört verhallt sind.

Julian Assange hat den Mut gehabt, aufzustehen und Unrecht beim Namen zu nennen. Ihm gebühren Preise und Auszeichnungen für seine Aufklärungsarbeit und nicht Gefängnis und Folter. Auch Chelsea Manning gilt unsere Unterstützung, die erneut in den USA im Gefängnis sitzt, weil sie sich weigert, vor einem geheimen Ausschuss gegen Assange und Wikileaks auszusagen.

Ebenfalls anwesend auf dem Pariser Platz in Berlin war Nils Melzer, UN-Sonderberichterstatter über Folter. Er warf dem Westen vor, seine Dissidenten auch zu verfolgen, sie in politischen Schauprozessen mit drakonischen Strafen zu belegen und wie gefährliche Terroristen in Hochsicherheitsgefängnissen unter entwürdigenden und unmenschlichen Bedingungen wegzusperren.
