A small idea i had: prehistoric mermen Sun and Moon

Have some sketches

Au infos under the cut hehe

Sun x Moon x Reader where Reader is a time travelling biologist who ends up stuck in early cretaceus and all they have is their broken time capsule, some tools and their modern-era devices

They can likely communicate with modern time scientists but maybe even days go by, and those scientists cannot send somebody to rescue them bedause there is some time-traveling fuckery that allows only 1 person for geologic era or something like that

And while they wait for instructions, they need to hunt for available sources of food and verify if said source will kill them instantly or not when consumed

During that, they find themselves diving into the prehistoric ocean, coming face to face with Sun, who is a plesiosaurus mermen (you choose which type tbh, there are a lot)

Afrer the initial shock of seeing a humanoid-faced creature and the secondary shock of seeing said creature emerging from behind rocks with an almost endlessly long torso/neck, reader and Sun kind of hit off and become gradually more friendly and sociable toward one another

Reader knows how to make friends with creatures and Sun is both very smart and very eager of making friends, so while he cannot seemingly comprehend your language he is trying his best

At some point he seems eager to bring reader somewhere, so you two dive together underwater

He progressively goes deeper and deeper, and you follow until you both arrive to the bottom of the sea in that part of the coast

Sun is excited and is acting like something has to happen and reader is not understanding, maybe you were supposed to see something or something that is happening should have been exciting

So you look around yourself confused before the seafloor under your feet moves.

Surprise you were standing on Moon's back, who just woke up and is both confused at what the absolute fuck he is looking at (you) and slightly irritated

Follows a moment of sea lizard to sea lizard communication between sun and moon before anybody makes a move

Ultimately Moon finds you weird but amusing, you look like them but also not and you can move and breath on land so that's interesting, so he keeps you around

They follow you during your diving and protect you from other predatoes that might have been around at the time, like other species of plesiosauruses (since again, there are quite a lot)

They might also help you a bit with the food problem by occasionally providing fish and other sea creatures for you to eat like ammonites; they are both big and eat a lot so sharing a microscopic portion of food won't change anything for them

Back at home everybody is enthusiastic of your discoveries and you're tasked to remain there as long as you can and study those newly discovered creatures

I learned about the existence of a really elongated prehistoric whale called Basilosaurus and if there was a merfolk AU of HOTD I kinda see it being Caraxes 😂😂😂😂

Yes I could see it too! Caraxyes could also be a Plesiosaurus.

This Au...has been stuck on my for you page.... For 3 WEEKS! I don't even look this stuff up! It started when someone I followed made a sea creature version of Silver which was awesome...then Shadow... THEN MORE KEPT POPPING UP! And I just finished reading the Rewound comic which you should definitely check out when you have time. So I thought "screw it, lemme have a swing at it."

Personality: Mighty at least in Rewound, is kinda feral. but I have a theory that deep down, when the fighting and danger is aside and you actually meet him. he's the known Strong lovable goober everyone knows and loves. However. I also took into account that given circumstances and the fact the ocean can be harsh. Mighty has some needless to say, Killer instincts and sometimes can get carried away with the hunt if it means providing for Ray and his friends. when it comes to the average Human or Mobian. Mighty can be highly hostile to them, given how most of the humans/Mobian's either hunt him, leave nets in the ocean to get tangled or capture him for experiments. so needless to say you need to have a lot of guts to try and give this guy therapy. He Travels the ocean with Ray, and they help each other hunt. Mighty has grown affection toward Ray from hunting pack, to his little brother. though unlike Ray's High sociability, Mighty is a little more shy, and thrown off guard if any other sea monsters /mermaids hear of him. Due to Ray falling into fishing or research boats often, mighty has to cause a few shipwrecks to keep Ray and any other creatures from being found out.

Design: Mighty was inspired by a Variety of prehistoric armoured marine life. mainly the dunkleosteus so mighty can keep his shell. a cat fish, And (at least I tried to add) Caribbean Reef shark. Mainly because I looked up what shark species is fast but nice, and Caribbean shark was top of the list. and while this might not be seen in the picture, with mighty and Ray, to help with traveling, they're colors or in mighty'rs case skin tone are more vibrant the closer they are to the surface and the sun. including they're eyes. and about his Ear: He has a tag on his ear, but after a fight with a shark some of her ear along with the tag got munched off. though, his ears and antenna looking things work as a way to sense things in the ocean and to Amplify his Echo location (which mighty and Ray have to help find eachother.) which sounds like a whale sound mixed with an eery whistle. Ablilities: Mighty is a powerful swimmer and has his super strength with his tail,arms and of course jaw. Mighty's jaw is so powerful it has been known to tear into metal. The shell Armour on his back reinforces his strength kind of like a shield which is hard to nearly impossible to destroy. he also has tough skin which makes it so that it will take some hits to actually damage him.

The Monsters: 

Susan Murphy/Ginormica is now Sam Murphy/Colossico (the "Under 60ft Man"); based on The Amazing Colossal Man and Amazing Shrinking Man. Hair is faintly more blue than pure white. His wedding attire, tuxedo suit, remains white like the dress. 

The Missing Link is now Miss Challenger (“Chell” for short), a prehistoric anomalocaris/arthropleura-like amphibious creature awoken by chemical dumping and begun terrorizing the lakeside; based on the mollusc monster from "The Monster that Challenged the World". Vaguely a more mermaid motif.

Dr. Shelly Brighton PhD aka Dr. Bride PhD, the creation of a (now deceased) mad scientist, who then herself eventually went on to pursue the sciences and began her own mad experimenting; based on the Bride of Frankenstein. Tesla coil rather than neck bolts. Said coil and hair fluctuate like store signs and those gamer room lights.

Bio Engineered Trifunctional Hybrid or simply, B.E.T.H. who was created for aesthetic appeal, pest control, and fruit production—the ultimate botanical specimen... didn't turn out how the scientists wanted when it gained consciousness; based on the Triffids, Audrey Jr. from the original 60's Little Shop of Horrors. Her face on the flower functions like cephalopod skin. It's more her "facial avatar" and her actual face is the "body".

Anyway. Hmm I'd imagine most of the cast wouldn't be from the deep sea, since the idea is them having to go down and survive. I know I'd spend way too long picking out breeds though, so I'm gonna be strong and not do that. HOWEVER.

I could totally see Sam being part Coelacanth.

They give me tough, hardy vibes. And are ANCIENT, theyre one of the few prehistoric breeds still found today. And yknow, cloning, living forever, etc etc.

That's the only one to come to mind immediately. Except I'll still die on the hill that c!Dream is a betta fish. And I could see Techno as some sort of shark.

But yeah i dont reaallly know that many deep-sea species because the deep ocean FREAKS ME OUT.. /pos? I think they should all find some cool underwater magic bioluminescence somehow, that'd be real neat

For some reason MerSkelly brings up more questions than regular Skelly fjsdkf how did part of him get preseverved if all of him was underwater, walking on skeleton legs is one thing but a skeleton fish tail has no water resistance right? I know this my au shut up fdsjkfkj I also have no idea which species of fish he was in life because I didn't think about that oh well this au isn't THAT deep (hehe … deep … ocean…………)

Archie and Pal are of course Coelacanth mermen, an ancient (being the keyword) lobe-finned fish

Pal has a Megalodon tooth! Prehistoric underwater creatures are a whole new specality for him

Archie kind of has a little mermaid thing goin' on with being obsessed with human treasures that come from ships to explore and examine, I'm not sure how well merfolk archaeology would work but exploring the sunkern treasures keeps him occupied for now

3. Twisted Fate

Mitsuki's appearance in the mansion created quite the chaos when Napoleon was the last to wake up the following morning and provide answers about the mermaid in their shared bath.

Petting a koi fish for moral support, she gets used to the pond where they moved her. It's the first and probably last time someone praises Dazai's impulsive addition to the mansion's exterior, with some of the residents going "wait, we had a koi pond?"

"I'm not taking care of lost half-fish. Just stay in the pond and you'll be alright."

Mitsuki furrows her brow and splashes water at Napoleon with her long red tail.

"Help me find my pearl so I can transform and you won't have to see my face again, I guarantee you, monsieur-woke-up-on-the-wrong-side-of-the-bed!"

"You should've taken better care of it before plunging into strange water exhibits in a museum and time-traveling to 19th century Paris!"

"I would've liked it better if I had ended up in the prehistoric era rather than here and with you!"

They begin a glare-off until they sigh in unison and instead direct their irritated stares towards the nearby bushes where a bunch of noisy residents are "hiding".

"You know that we can see you, right?"

mer-Bats would prolly be some kinda funky prehistoric sea creature that rescues people from shipwrecks and brings em shiny stuff off the ocean floor. he’s kinda lonely and humans are fascinating to him, so he’s usually not far off when one needs help. some seek him out specifically to scavenge lost cargo or even go pearl diving for them.

I do really love dolphins!! I grew up by the ocean, and so I’ve always loved the water and the beach, and when I was a kid I had a mermaid obsession (okay, I still do a little bit, I’m going to finish my Mermaid Buck AU someday!!) and that kind of evolved into a fascination with dolphins, as the most mermaid adjacent real animal. 

I have some ideas about which dolphin facts Buck would be most interested in also. You didn't ask for Fun Facts, but y'know, I project onto Buck for a reason lmao

1. Dolphins evolved from horse-like animals. Dolphins have more in common with equines than they do fish. If you want to see some cursed four legged prehistoric dolphins google dolphin evolution.

2. Beluga whales, orcas, porpoises and a couple other species of “toothed” and "round headed" whales, are actually weirdly shaped dolphins (ie, they belong to the family delphinidae) 

3. Dolphins are super super smart, like one of the smartest animals on the planet, which is what makes them so trainable. But it also means they require a lot of stimulation in captivity. 

4. Dolphins are extremely social and will get super depressed if they don’t have other dolphins to hang out with. They also love to play with other dolphins, and with humans! Though it can be dangerous as a human to play with dolphins bc they're big and strong and can accidentally hurt us.

5. And last but certainly not least: dolphins are very, very horny and will absolutely try to initiate sexual contact with humans. Which can also be very dangerous for the humans involved.

Author Spotlight: Lallagoglee Day 1

How did you get into Glee and Glee fandom?

It's been 84 years ago... I got a phone call from a friend "hey! It's just started a cool musical tv show, wanna watch with me?" and so I fell in love since episode 3.

For joining the fandom I took my time, at first I started following and commenting on a few artists on Deviantart (like the lovely Hoshidess) and I follow them on tumblr where I fell in love with even more awesome artists. I started to really contribute after season 4 I think when Tacogrande created an 80s trope week and I bounded with the magnificent Hazelandgrasz.

In general, what drew you into writing (and/or creating)?

I always loved storytelling and role playing and I grew up in a family of readers and artists. My dad used to write adventures with me and my sisters as characters and my mum made many little illustrations of them.

What was it about Glee that made you decide to write fanfic for it?

The main reason I always create something is to share my love for something and Glee is a funny show with very talented people, it was easy to like the characters. I think I felt very connected with Kurt and all I wanted was to create something where he was happy.

Have you been a part of other fandoms before? Have you written fanfiction pre-glee?

Omg yes! I'm a professional fangirl with a complete resume. In elementary school we were very serious with our own Power Ranger adventures. 

In middle school I was making silly Dragon Ball comics with my cousin and I started writing Harry Potter fan fiction with obviously myself on them. XD

In high school I became a true otaku, collecting manga, making Slam Dunk short strips and writing Inuyasha fanfiction in a (now prehistoric) website. With my best friend we still have a long story in the Saiyuki universe.

In university I even joined a Naruto forum!

Is there a trope you’ve yet to try your hand at, but really want to?

I'm a gamer, I like fantasy and sci-fic  but every time I start something with them I just loose myself with research and details.

Is there a trope you wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole?

well, my asexual soul really don't connect with anything sexual centered.

How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now? Care to share one of them?

Lately I'm in a blue mood, due to --- many reasons --- but I started and tossed away a mermaid AU where they coexist with humans, a long travel adventure story and a Notting Hill adaptation.
