#precure royale are a team of older cures

More oc stuff, different precure team:
Precure Royale:
These girls have a lost kingdom a la sailor moon vibe going on, but with slightly less save the universe need, and even less wanting a kingdom. And one pushy prince.
Anyway, almost all of them have past precure lives and forms. Back in the Heart Kingdom, the four girls and the princess they were protecting were revered as immaculate soldiers (cures) and icons, but in reality they were just as messy as anyone.
Which brings me to Hita (Atsuko), the fairy cure of the team (Cure Sunfire/Sunrise)
Hita is a Firebird, with gold and deep purple plumage. She looks elegant, suave, and noble. Beautiful. Like a colour tweaked peacock.
And every morning she stands outside the princesses bedroom window, takes a deep breath,
And yells "MORNING MOTHERFUCKERS!"
Before blowing a big ball of fire into the air.
Appearances can be decieving. Very decieving.

Do you have any fancures you’d be willing to tell about? Please I am starving I love hearing about people’s fancures
-sincerely,
you (probably) know who ;)
I’ve got SO MANY that I had created for roleplays and stuff that just never really got used so LET’S SPEEDRUN SOME OC SHARING GO
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tamagawa Yamako was meant to be a key part of our roleplay universe’s lore, being an agent of the Mother Tree as Cure Astral. The Astral locket allows her to transform, and she often has a one-track mind. Yamako’s main responsibilities involve investigating anomalies in the PreCure multiverse and guarding the main area the Mother Tree is located in. If something were to happen to the tree, the multiverse would essentially collapse in on itself, so she often has to work under pressure.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m also really fond of sunrise girl Sadie Chapin! She’s the princess of a kingdom which housed an important artifact in keeping the balance of the universe intact, but when her home was attacked she was forced to flee to Earth. There, she meets a human girl and together they are able to transform into the Wonderful Soul PreCures! Despite her kingdom having a moon/night motif, Sadie is the pretty cure of daytime, Cure Luminaire. Also she’s got a pet leopard named Giran.
I’ve even used ROBLOX to create Pretty Cure OCs!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once you’ve accumulated enough STUFF in Royale High, you can come up with some really cool OCs! This is Eirin Amano, princess (it’s a Royale High character of course she’s a Princess) of Blueland. She’s recruited by a fairy named Arata (the living incarnation of a punching bag) to be a legendary warrior and protect Royale High’s world from the Skamar Hub. I developed this particular team with several others, and we all based our characters’ concepts around different things you could do within Royale High. The concepts used for the Cures were the main school (duh), the archery minigame, the fountain of dreams, the lighthouse, sunset island, and the lucky wheel on earth.
The villains represented the Trading Hub and therefore are all aliens.
Eirin got the main school area for her concept, so as well as being named Cure Royale, she’s studious and strives to do her best at anything academic. Also, she’s got an older twin brother named Kota.
And now you get more Eirin pictures because I have A TON of apps that I can use to dress her up :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also fun fact: in canon, all of Eirin’s hairstyles incorporated braids of some kind.
okay byeeeeeee
(link to the picrew used for Yamako’s civ picture vvvv)

-Kira Kira Potion~!
-Good news, Sora-chan~! We
-HONTO DESU KA!?
-Captain Shalala, good morning. How's your body treatin' you?
-Back to Sky Land we go~!
-Beryberie~!
-Good work team.
-Awakened~!
-Awwwww, das nice
-She speaks~!
-Our exploits are becoming known, far and wide~!
-Had to zoom your folks right away, huh Tsukasa?
-Ei! Ei! Oh!
-A parade for the Cures!
-So yes, Jimmy-Jimmy, there have been parades honoring Pretty Cure, but don't let that from stopping you from organizing your own. She can be the Grand… Marshal.
-Ageha's got a way with birds, huh?
-It's okay, Mashiro! You just gotta approach the Chocobo with care and. Remember, the ones that win races have better chances at producing colored offspring.
-They can smell dread.
-Sharara-taichou~!
-Too much of a girlboss to be injured for too long.
-More friends...
-"Me and the Queen~!"
-...that's interesting. Does this perhaps imply that the King married into the royal family?
-"Vroom Vroom?"
-Her impersonation is quite impressive.
-:O?
-Oh! Apparently these two were chosen.
-...well, "El" does mean "god" in Hebrew.
-Dall Bonuts.
-...I hope we get something for Wizard's 10th anniversary soon.
-You and me, we come from different worlds. You like to laugh at me when I look at other girls.
-A miracle.

-Man, we're just shuffling her around everywhere, huh?
-The Morning Star~! Handed down by God herself.
-Temporary parents, ow.
-That's mean, God.
-I guess that explains why she was already so big.
-Ohayo, Elle-chan.
-...what a gentle pair, that King and Queen are.
-"The princess of Sky Land came out of the sky!?"
-Elle's also got youse guys. Two moms, an older brother, a yahoo aunt, and a wizard granny.
-"There is nothing left you could learn from me."
-A return...
-Meanie Cloud.
-...y'know I can't think I make fun of that, that's exactly what these things are.
-Oh well, this is for a fantastic reason~!
-Ready Go! Chasing the gloom away, Hirogaru Sky PreCure~!
-Ourple!
-Wanderful~!
-One great big sky.
-That was nice, wasn't it~?
-Not a whole lot really happened, but I guess that's okay. To be honest, I think having a little less happen than usual is a bit refreshing for Super Hero Time.
-Anyways, now that I said that, let's go to the zoo~! And have somethhing go horribly wrong, assumedly~!
-...Linebackers???
-...I don't think that's what I meant when I said "let's go to the zoo".
-...that is, unless next season's all about American Football. (The sport, that is, not the band.)
-Idk, I woke up early this morning in the middle of a thunderstorm.

Favorite Archetypes in Precure
Tumblr media
I was going to keep this above cut if it weren’t for the fact that there’s no way I’ll ever be able to go over every single archetype (and trope) there is...so I decided to feature just my favorites instead.
Therefore, expect this to be more self-indulgent than the usual post.
Also, big WIP, will add more as I think them up.
Ojou:
Tumblr media
Honorable Mentions: Honoka, Hibiki, Yukari
That one extremely rich gal in the main cast, complete with an esteemed family name, giant mansion, loyal servants and maybe even an exclusive villa for the beach episodes among other things. We don’t have one every season, thankfully, but it’s a very common occurrence in Precure... and honestly, pretty much almost every other anime genre out there.
The girls in honorable mentions aren’t as financially influential as the Ojous here but they do live in a big house so it’s not wrong to say they’re a little more well-off than the average person.
Also, it’s notable that despite their wealthy background, none of them really display qualities of the haughty rich bitch. If anything, a rival who does have those characteristics (especially the “ohoho!” laugh) is sometimes brought in to make them look better by comparison.
Though I can’t deny it’d be super interesting to get an Ojou Cure like that in the future, if possible. One who is selfish, arrogant and insufferable about her social standing but is noble deep down and after some time and development, learns to trade in those negative traits to become more likable. Except she keeps the “ohoho!” laugh because it’s dumb and fun. :)
Princess:
Tumblr media
Honorable Mentions: Hikari, Aguri
Sort of like a sister trope to the Ojou, maybe? Well, the aristocratic tendencies are alike.
Only included literal princesses, btw. No girls who are only princesses in name or by virtue of magic or anything like that (sorry, Haruka). They have to come from a well and alive royal family and they also need to have an existing kingdom to be princess of.
So when you narrow it down by those criteria, we actually don’t have a lot of them in Precure. But since we get a variety of otherworldly Cures anyway, we don’t really make that distinction often.
Oh, and for Aguri, she sorta counts as well, being one half of Marie-Ange who was the princess of Trump Kingdom and all. But since the monarchy has been replaced by a republic, she has no princess title to claim anymore so...nope.
EDIT: Added Hikari to honorable mentions since her situation is similar to Aguri’s.
Yamato Nadeshiko:
Tumblr media
Honorable Mentions: Karen, Minami
For those who aren’t well-read in this concept, please read this first.
That said, even though culture and values have changed greatly over the years, I believe the core definition of the Yamato Nadeshiko has remained mostly the same that there is no need for extra interpretation into it. As far as this post goes, anyway.
A soft-spoken, very well-mannered woman hiding a will of steel beneath her serene composure. The simplified version but pretty straightforward if you ask me.
Regarding Honoka and Mai, I’m still not familiar enough with the first two Precure teams to know for sure if they really match the description (especially Mai, Honoka I can more or less agree with based on what I’ve seen)...but I’ll go along with it for now.
As for Karen and Minami, they do show shades of it in their personalities given their upscale upbringing (especially Minami who cried at the thought she might be betraying her parents for wanting to chase her dream) but they’re still more Ojou than actual Yamato Nadeshiko, imo.
Lady Warrior (Cure only):
Tumblr media
Honorable Mentions: Ace
Lady of War.
Every Cure fights, of course, but then there are the few who enter the battlefield almost as if they were born to conquer it while maintaining all the grace and elegance of a refined lady.
Moonlight is the epitome of this trope for the franchise as a whole and to this day, I’ve yet to see any other Cure who can surpass her. But that’s fine. It doesn’t mean any of the other Cures listed here is less of a Lady Warrior than she is.
Ace is only an honorable mention because while she possesses a lot of the traits found in this archetype, including the overwhelming strength and confidence, the way she constantly and pretentiously barked on about “what makes a lady a lady” really brought down her value as one.
Not to mention, she’s a bit too flashy compared to the others and that takes away the seriousness I always associate with this archetype.
Fashion:
Tumblr media
Well, there isn’t a Precure season where nobody delves into this topic but among the Cures, these girls are known to be the most style-conscious.
Miki and Kirara aren’t in a sub-tier, btw. They’re just grouped separately because they’re actual models.
Bifauxnen:
Tumblr media
Yep. Don’t think I need to say much about this one.
Feline Femme:
Tumblr media
Cat girls. Girls with (stereotypical) cat-like characteristics.
I threw this title together with words I thought would sound the nicest but reading it now reminds me of what a friend once told me. That “felines are rather feminine creatures”.
And I think that fits these three, don’t you?
Aoi is not an honorable mention, even though her character concept is based on a lion, because she rejects the girlish image in favor of being a tomboy rock star.
Student Council/Class Rep:
Tumblr media
Overall, we have a good number of honor students among the Cures but this category is reserved for those who are shown or stated to be a class representative and/or participate in the student council. Strangely enough, this trope isn’t a favorite of mine or anything but I like “collecting” the ones who have these things in common.
- Known class reps: Kanade, Saaya, Chiyu (iirc?)
- Known vice presidents: Reika, Rikka
- Known presidents: Karen, Itsuki, Reika, Mana, Minami, Madoka
...alright, I’m positive I missed a few people or forgot certain details so if anyone can point out which ones, that’d be appreciated.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Miscellaneous
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
These aren’t archetypes so much as just tropes but I don’t quite feel like putting them in a separate post yet so I’ll leave them here for now.
Glasses:
Tumblr media
Self-explanatory.
Hell, everyone here minus Rikka form the Precure idol group, Anata no kokoro o mitoshi-tai, because of this very feature.
Makoto is not included because I believe she only wears class to be incognito when going out.
Keigo (Civilian):
Tumblr media
Too lazy to explain this in an eloquent and concise manner so read up.
You know someone is just ultra polite to a T when their formality doesn’t let up even when they’re around the people they’re closest to. Some cases are understandable especially if they were raised under more traditional, classy circumstances or trained in etiquette (like the Ojous, princesses, etc) so this is normal for them.
Others are just more humble in nature like Tsubomi and Himari or speak that way because everyone is older than her like Urara.
I find this trope incredibly charming on certain characters and hope I’m not the only one.
Keigo (Cure):
Tumblr media
Carried over from their civilian forms, there isn’t that much of a difference except for the addition of Felice, who went through a huge maturity growth during transformation.
Ace is similar in that aspect, too, since she sounds less bratty than Aguri does.

Precure Daily Halloween Special 2019
Episodes: SPC 37, HaCha 37, GPP Movie, MPC 38-39, KKPC 37, HUG 38, STPC 37 Dates watched: 30-31 October 2019 Original air dates: Sunday in October 1-2 weeks before Halloween, 2011 & 2016-2018, and the Saturday of Halloween, 2015
Tumblr media
Is that little girl in the witch hat dressed as Akko from Little Witch Academia in a nod to her seiyuu, Han Megumi, playing Hime or is this just a coincidence? These are the questions that keep me up at night.
You may remember the PCD Christmas Special I did last year, where I watched every Precure Christmas episode and compared them to each other, charting the common elements and evolution in how they handle the subject. Well, I really love Halloween, but for a while, Japan didn’t celebrate it. It only started to catch on in the late 2000s and into the 2010s, and so despite several episodes of Precure airing on or near Halloween night over the years, the first time it was brought up in the franchise wasn’t until 2011′s Suite Precure. You can read more about how it became acceptable to celebrate and the ways in which the Japanese people enjoy themselves in this article, but the important takeaways are that Halloween events are more about food and festivities, and trick-or-treating is a highly organized activity, no going door-to-door.
At this point in the shows, all extra heroines have been introduced and the team is usually on the cusp of acquiring a new powerup. The villains have suffered significant losses and are preparing to pull out some form of trump card (this will facilitate the team getting their new attack). Typically, the monster of the week will be made from a Jack O’Lantern or some other Halloween decoration. In more recent years there’s been a tendency to explain what Halloween is about, but they don’t always do this. The biggest draw of a Halloween episode, though, in my opinion, is getting to see the characters in costumes. I’m going to briefly run down each Halloween episode (or movie) and then compare common elements at the end.
Note: At the time of writing, I am about 6 episodes behind in Star Twinkle Precure, did not wish to skip ahead for the purposes of this article, and didn’t have the time to catch up. I will add my thoughts on STPC 38 at a later date, and I will announce when I have done this via a reblog to @pcd-status. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Star Twinkle section added 12 Nov. 2019
Suite Precure 37 - “Wakuwaku! Everyone Transforms for Halloween!” Original air date: 30 October 2011
Tumblr media
With Mephisto freed of his brainwashing, Falsetto takes charge of Trio the Minor and leads an attack on the girls. Ako has decided to stay in the human world, and the older girls take her to a Halloween celebration to brighten her spirits. Ako isn’t really enjoying herself, but some younger kids rope her into playing with them and that brightens her up. When Trio the Minor turn a pumpkin into a Negatone, they try to perform a new attack with Crescendo Tone: Precure Suite Session Ensemble Crescendo, but it falls apart, so Ako uses her invidual attacks while the older trio uses their group finisher. At the end, Falsetto sings an incomplete Melody of Sorrow to speed up Noise’s revival.
Costumes and references: Hibiki is dressed as a pirate, but specifically she resembles a genderbent Captain Marvelous, the red ranger from the contemporary Sentai series Gokaiger. Kanade is dressed as a pumpkin witch. Ellen is dressed as a black cat, an allusion to her true form, and Ako is a dressed as a princess, which she is. (not digging very deep for this)
HappinessCharge Precure 37 - “Big Bang, Defeated! An Unbelievably Strong Enemy Appears!” Original air date: 19 October 2014
Tumblr media
Oresky, Namakelder, and Hosshiwa are all feeling weakened after taking the Happiness Big Bang attack, so Queen Mirage concludes they may not be useful to her anymore and prepares her next agent. Meanwhile in Pikarigaoka, Megumi encourages Blue to join them at the town’s Halloween festival, and he agrees. They all begin to share pumpkin cakes with each other, a local tradition. Seiji shares his with Megumi, Megumi eagerly shares hers with Blue, and the other girls look on from a distance as they recognize the love triangle unfolding in front of them. Oresky appears, trying to ruin the Halloween festival that makes people happy and attempting to prove his worth. He really wants to be the number one general in the Phantom Empire, as he feels that if he’s not first, he’s worthless and he doesn’t want to be replaced. The girls transform, and begin to persuade him that there’s enjoyment to be had in fun things, and it’s okay if you’re not first. They hit him with Happiness Big Bang and it begins to purify him, when suddenly an attack interrupts it. As the smoke clears, their new opponent is revealed to be a corrupted Cure Tender, Iona’s missing older sister.
Costumes and references: Megumi is wearing a Halloween-themed dress, orange with jack-o-lanterns on it. Hime is dressed as a princess, which much like with Ako, seems kind of low-effort since she’s an actual princess. Yuuko is dressed as a witch, and Iona is a fortune teller. Also, Blue is dressed as a vampire.
Go! Princess Precure: Go! Go!! Gorgeous Triple Feature Original release date: 31 October 2015
The Princess movie was experimental, being made of three shorter films: a chibi short with no dialog, a 50-minute traditional feature, and a 20-minute all CG adventure. The film leaned hard on its Halloween theming, with Pumpkins and Halloween being prominent motifs in all three parts. I’ll break them down individually.
Cure Flora and the Mysterious Mirror
Tumblr media
This is a cute sketch where Cure Flora finds a fancy crown, puts it on, and accidentally startles some mischievous sprites on the other side of what she thinks is a mirror. They have the ability to transform, so they take on her appearance and mirror her, but they forget to duplicate the crown and eventually they begin to compete with the real Flora, doing tricks. She accidentally breaks the crown, so the sprites decide to transform into a special pumpkin outfit for her, just as the other girls come in. The 5-minute short uses a super deformed art style with all CG animation and has no dialog.
Costumes and references: Cure Flora’s pumpkin dress and hat.
The Pumpkin Kingdom’s Treasure
Tumblr media
Haruka, Minami, Kirara, and Towa are transported to the wondrous Pumpkin Kingdom, where the royal chancellor Warp is hosting a Princess Contest to find a princess for the kingdom. Towa, being well-versed in evil schemes, smells a rat and is on edge. Haruka finds the true princess of the kingdom, Pumpururu, who is locked away, and learns that the Pumpkin King and Queen are under Warp’s control. Minami, Kirara, and Towa each win their rounds in the contest, but the former two are captured while Towa is able to avoid capture. Haruka participates, even managing to snap the monarchs out of the control. She transforms, frees the others from their capture, and Warp transforms to a giant monster. Pumpururu, the sprites, and the Precures’ strong feelings summon Halloween Dress Up Keys that the girls use to defeat Warp and save the Pumpkin Kingdom.
Costumes and references: The girls get special outfits to wear for the Princess Contest (not halloween themed), as well as Mode Elegant Halloween dresses that feature pumpkin flowers on them.
Precure and Leffy’s Wonder Night!
Tumblr media
This is an episode-length feature using the CG animation style from the dance endings. Haruka discovers a doll on her desk, when she’s suddenly transported to the Pumpkingdom, already transformed, and the doll is now a girl named Leffy. Leffy tells the cures they need to defeat Night Pumpkin, who has taken over Pumpkingdom and stolen the daylight from them, making it always night. What follows is essentially an ongoing chase through the city to the top, where they fight and defeat Night Pumpkin and restore daylight to Pumpkingdom. Haruka is then transported back to her room, and the Leffy doll is gone. It’s worth noting that Leffy appeared as Pumpururu’s doll in the previous portion. The connection to this section of the film is unclear. Also, Minami, Kirara, and Towa do not appear in their civilian forms at all.
Costumes and references: Leffy isn’t overtly pumpkin themed, and nobody else gets any special forms in this one. However, there is a glorious moment where Flora accidentally bonks Night Pumpkin on the head.

a proud Precure tradition
Maho Girls Precure 38 - “Is it Sweet or Not? The Magic Pumpkin Festival!” Original air date: 23 October 2016
Tumblr media
This isn’t explicitly a Halloween episode, because the Magic World doesn’t celebrate Halloween, but they have fall traditions that involve pumpkins and sweets so it counts. Their tradition is to chase a Pumpkin Bird that appears every year. It shoots candy from its mouth, and if it hits someone, they turn into a giant piece of candy. If you capture it, you get a special prize. One of the villains brings up the actually valid point that the creature may not like being chased and that’s why it runs, but Mofurun talks to it and finds out it just has a cavity. The girls transform into Topaz Style to fight Shakince in a creatively silly battle. When they beat him, Mofurun gets the credit for “capturing” the Pumpkin Bird and so she gets presented with its prize, which turns out to be a seed that grows into a tree which sprouts toothbrushes. I am not making that up.
Costumes and references: Mofurun gets a special orange and yellow dress to wear when she receives the prize but it’s never shown in closeup from the front. Also, there is a cameo appearance by Watanabe Mayu, who sings the insert song for the Maho Girls Movie that was in theaters around this time, and also served as the ending theme for episodes 38 and 39 (only on the TV version, on home release they use “Magic a la Domo”). She makes a special appearance as herself. Even better, in a flashback, she’s seen beside giant statues of Mipple and Mepple.
Maho Girls Precure 39 - “This is Halloween! Everyone, Smile!” Original air date: 30 October 2016
Tumblr media
The girls from magic school come to visit the non-magic world and learn about Halloween! But Jun, Kay, and Emily have to be reminded, even when things seem bad, to not use magic to help out. The students of the non-magic world are running a crepe stand and the magic world students decide to chip in, and after being scolded for using their powers, they learn how to do things the old-fashioned way and appreciate the value of hard work. In the middle of all of this, Ha-chan changes costumes almost every scene. Benigyo is extremely confused by all the Halloween festivities and doesn’t understand what the girls want when they tell her to stop ruining it. They never do give her a proper explanation, but she summons a Donyokubaaru that blows air and the girls have to transform to Sapphire form to fight it off. There’s a small plot point about Mirai’s grandmother recognizing the magic school Headmaster from her own youth. At the end of the episode, it’s implied that Liko’s father has made a big breakthrough about relations between the magic and non-magic worlds, and more ancient powers. Kind of a disjointed episode.
Costumes and references: Mirai is dressed as Mofurun, Liko is dressed as a cat in an orange and purple dress, Mofurun is dressed as Cure Miracle, Chikurun is dressed as a bunny, and Ha-chan is dressed as:
an alicorn
a sarcophagus
a mummy
a sphinx
a UFO
and a thunder god (Raijin)
And just a cool thing I noticed, the final stage for the ending dance was updated with a Halloween theme. I’m really curious why, since they replaced the ending with “The Right Way to Use Magic” in the initial television broadcast of this episode, and I don’t think the Halloween version was seen in any previous or subsequent episodes.
Kirakira Precure a la Mode 37 - “Salut! Ciel is Going Back to France!?” Original air date: 22 October 2017
Tumblr media
Ciel’s old boss, Madame Solaine, finds her and tries to get her to come back to Paris and work for her there, feeling that Ciel’s talent is wasted in this small town. Not wanting to admit that she initially came searching for her brother, and that she’s got responsibilities as a Precure, she tries to demonstrate what she likes about Ichigozaoka. Everybody is worried that Ciel is going to leave, and even lowkey encouraging her to do what’s best for her career, but she wants to stay. Ultimately she wins Madame Solaine over with a dish inspired by Ichika’s cooking style. Elisio is the antagonist of this episode but I honestly found the battle to be completely irrelevant. The most notable point for the villains is that Grave makes some kind of discovery at the end of the episode.
Costumes and references: Their costumes here are modifications to their patisserie uniforms. Ichika is a jack o’lantern, Himari is an angel, Aoi is a devil, Yukari is a cat (of course), Akira is a vampire, and Ciel is a witch.
HUGtto! Precure 38 - “Charged with Happiness! Happy Halloween!” Original air date: 28 October 2018
Tumblr media
Hagukumi town is going to be hosting a Halloween Party, with Papple’s business providing food and entertainment. Daigan is tasked with food prep, but he gets frustrated with a very delicate task, and a visit from Bishin has him questioning his loyalties. The girls are ready to hit the town, and have even prepared costumes for Harry and Hugtan. They made a lot of costumes for Hugtan, in fact, but Ruru detects that she doesn’t really like any of them, so they ask her what she wants to be, and she responds “Pwecyua!” They set to work making her a Precure costume in short order, but an Oshimaida attack secretly requested by Daigan threatens the party. The girls transform and make a show of it to keep people’s spirits high, finishing the monster off with Cheerful Attack. Papple knows that Daigan was responsible and chides him for defecting, even momentarily, and informs him that everybody loved his food. Up at Beauty Harry, the girls finish Hugtan’s costume and show her to Harry, who briefly has a flash of Cure Tomorrow.
Costumes and references: Hana is a witch, Saaya is a lolita devil, Homare is a cowgirl, Emiru and Ruru are pirates, Harry is a werewolf (because he’s.... hairy, IDK if that was the joke), and Hugtan is dressed as Cure Yell. Foreshadowing ahoy!
Star☆Twinkle Precure 37 - “Cryptids Will Win! The Halloween Costume Contest” Original air date: 21 October 2019
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mihoshi Town is having a Halloween costume contest with prizes for best group, so everybody brings their A-game. Except Yuni, she takes the chance to walk around in her true Rainbownian form. Everybody is having fun and the girls get to explain Halloween to Yuni and Lala. Unfortunately, Kappard is hanging around, reminiscing about what happened to his planet, and he doesn’t like the festivities. Everyone thinks he’s just dressed as a sexy kappa and they want pictures with him, which annoys him even more, so he steals one arguing couple’s imagination and goes on the attack. In an effort to guide him away from all the people and hide their identities, when the girls transform, they claim to be the Mihoshi Stars and do a full Sentai roll call, finally settling the debate over Milky and Cosmo’s color designations. (I was probably one of the last people to maintain that Milky was blue by this point, tbh) They lead him away from the festivities and then try to talk him down, but all he can say is he doesn’t believe different species can live in harmony, that Lala and Yuni are living a lie by celebrating Earth customs, and he doesn’t understand this holiday at all, so they defeat him and return to the festival. Elena wins prizes as part of two different groups, but Kappard is declared the overall winner. Too bad he’s MIA. This episode doesn’t do much for the plot, but it does give a little backstory to Kappard, as we see that his planet got destroyed by a non-native species monopolizing all of their natural resources. Considering what we see of Eyewan and Tenjou in the next few episodes, it’s possible we’re aiming to redeem the villains. Hard to tell with an ongoing show.
Costumes and references: Hikaru is a yeti, Lala is a tsuchinoko, Madoka is a cat, Elena is a flower (with her family) and a cat (with Madoka and Yuni), Yuni is herself, Fuwa is a sheep I guess, and Prunce is the Michelin Man (TELL ME I’M WRONG).
Analysis
Halloween episodes, unlike Christmas episodes, don’t have as much of a running theme. Halloween is more of a dressing than an opportunity to explore feelings. The placement of these episodes in the series means that things are usually starting to ramp up, but none of them features a major conflict. In a few episodes, the fight with the villains felt downright inconsequential, while it was more meaningful in others. There was a trend in more recent years to explain the origins of Halloween, as a gathering of spirits, but otherwise there aren’t as many identifiable patterns or shifts in patterns as there were in the Christmas episodes, it’s mostly been “this is Halloween, have fun.” The Go Princess movie had the opportunity to make the most of their halloween theme, but instead they just focused on pumpkins, pumpkins, and more pumpkins without really diving into what makes Halloween as a holiday special or significant. It’s an alright movie but it’s a sour note on an excellent series that knew what it was doing. HappinessCharge probably utilized Halloween the best as a setting, using some Halloween traditions to create romantic tension, and I appreciated Maho Girls’s attempt to create a Halloween-ish fall holiday for a fictional culture, and then also bringing those people in to explore our Halloween. Since it’s a newer holiday for Precure to work with, only getting regular exposure since 2014, we might see them figure out more ways to spin Halloween in the future. Honestly I hope so, and I’ll be here to write about it for you.
Happy Halloween, everybody, and look forward to more Yes 5 coming soon. Hopefully I’ll finish that by the end of the year. Hopefully. (yeah not likely)

Precure Memories (one of my fancure series):
Been thinkin more on this lately, and made several developments: one being that Cure Signet (who was also cure special, and some several other cure names before) is now Cure Royale, leader of the older team of Cure Royales, who team up with the Memory Cures to make a regular post-season mega-team of Precure Memory Royale.
She is also alone and bereft of her team through most of the Memories season, the enemy having trapped the others in some way or taken their power and/or fairies. She ends up at odds with the memory cures for a little while because she wants to take the sapphire clock, the source of their cure powers, and travel back in time to undo what had happened to save her team. They (rightfully in the situation) talk her out of it. Thanks to the enemy's curses, she struggles to remember everything of her past, but eventually rediscovers and faces it with the help of the memory cures. We learn that she is responsible for managing to restrict the enemy to Kurogawa City (Cures hometown), although this has prevented other cures from entering the city too. Cure Flower in particular, avoids the place.
(Sl edited version of Cure Royale (sorted her hair out):
Tumblr media
Talking about enemies, they have been working in the city unopposed for a while now, and have created a dark creature, the Fester, that lives under the city and grows off misery and dispair. It works to suck the joy out of the people of the city, cutting off their happiness before it happens. The Memory cures have to fight manifested chunks of this darkness, which the enemy generals call up and cut off to make into monsters, and they can only purify them with similar creatures of their own, this time created from happy memories.
So for example, going to the theme park they could generate a dragon-like roller-coaster creature from their memories of riding the roller coaster, which would dive into the Fester and purify it that way. Or, it could be a rain of their favourite food, or something someone important to them made. It varies quite a bit between depending on the cures and the situation, although there are one or two repeating versions: Cure Memory will use a base memory of a glade of trees with their leaves rustling in the wind. Cure Express will use the dancing mechanical toy she once made. that her dad danced with. Cure Connect evokes the calming sea and the waves. Some of the definitions of happy can be quite subtle, but anything that brings them joy or happiness would work.
Cure Reverie is slightly unusual as she is the only one who can conjure up creatures from potential happiness: possibilities that haven't quite happened yet. But again, this tends to be more subtle, and is much more vulnerable to failing if anyone around doesn't fully believe in the dreams.
Cure Memory is able to evoke other people's happy memories: for example, in an all stars setting she could evoke Cure Black and Cure White's memories of the blackboard duster dance to create a giant pair of blackboard dusters that smackdown the Fester of the week with their pads. And magic.
Later on the Memory Cures use the made-up curesona of Kazumi's (Cure Serene) little sister, Cure Joy, as the focus for their powered up team purification attack.

Summary of my four OC cure teams:
Some of these are more developed than others:
(Note: characters shown as Civilian name/ modern primary cure name or version/past or varient cure versions)
Precure Royale:
Kyua Chiyoko/ Cure Signet/Super/Sleepy/Support/Shasshin (Cure Royale in Jikan Jinx alt) (chameleon cure- can change cure theme). Princess of the Heart kingdom sent forward in time to avoid harassment by the prince of another kingdom and unfortunate prophecy. Which doesn't really work. Has to figure out what she really wants to do with her life and her legacy.
Takeshi Tara/ Cure Steady/Steadfast. Precure of loyalty. Rock and moss themed. Big hearted, absolute sweetheart, hugger. Strong even for a precure, and reliable in a fight (she's...steady- gettit?). Can and often does trip over her own feet when the stakes are lower though. Older self is very protective of the younger cures, and would be a serial adopter on sight if the rest of the team didn't constantly act as impulse control.
Kagami/ Cure Shadow/Surface. The serious one. The intelligent and perceptive one too. The plotter and the planner and the spy when she needs to be, but she often has to work from behind the scenes to make things happen. The up front battles aren't her forte. Strongly associated with mirrors. Has met Blue before and refers to him as 'pretty boy', thought that's usually prefaced with the words 'Outta my mirror'.
Atsuko/Hita/ Cure Sunfire/Sunrise- Fairy cure. Fire bird. Ends sentences with Hitsu in fairy form. Had her fairy fire taken by Shadow for a little while in the modern day, trapping her in human form until it was released. Looks sophisticated, is michievous as hell.
Suzume/ Cure Swift/Smartish. Music/birds/movement gal. Magic with flute if she's being delicate, sousaphone if she is not. Often ends up in cahoots with Sunfire. Percieved as the smart one, but she's more book-smart.
Toupe – fairy. Red squirrel hairdresser and part-time magical wig. The rest of Chiyoko's court disappeared on route, so it fell to Toupe to try and look after the princess in the modern world.
Percivalance- fairy. Obnoxious. Bossy. Old-school. Doesn’t get on with Toupe.
Prince Kobara- Humanoid villain. Trying to get control of the ancient magic of the Heart Kingdom via Chiyoko.
Cure Queen/Queen Kyua- past ruler of the Heart Kingdom. Can see future possibilities and make prophecies. Was the one who sent Chiyoko forward in time to save her and give her the chance to live freely.
Wilding- plant creature and apparent bbeg that has taken over the ruins of the Heart Kingdom.
Series summary: Sailor Moon type past kingdom rebirth of protectors, except Prince Kobara. Prince tries to woo Chiyoko, and win the power of her kingdom, but Chiyoko is just interested in being a normal girl, and protecting the town from Wilding and that danger. Pre-modern cures (early 80’s), and a prequel to Precure Memories.
Precure Memories:
Suzuki Midori/ Cure Memory (prefers to be known as Suzuki). Green trees + memories themed cure. Grew up an orphan, Suzuki has always been a lonely kid, often spending hours entertaining herself climbing the statue in the local park. At the same time chance seems to shine kindly on her to transfer to a better school, she accidently discovers a fragment of the sapphire clock in an accident, and ends up chasing through three new allies and a transformation to get it back. Cure Memory works with Kokoro, Fumiko and Kirami to collect the missing pieces. Doesn't like using her name, as her mother only gave her her surname before her birth, and there was no clue about her father. Talks to Steady's statue a lot and makes flower crowns etc.
Fumiko/ Cure Reverie: Blue/white, knight and writing themed cure. Hardworking kid, teacher's pet, and oldest of a big family in a small flat, she often watched Suzuki roaming the park with curiosity. When Suzuki transfers to her school, she finally gets the oppourtunity to meet her for good, and quickly gets swept up in the precure stuff.
Kirami/ Cure Express: Black/gold mechanics and gears themed cure. Lives with her parents in their clock/watch repair shop, and likes making mechincal creatures as a hobby. Considered as the disruptive kid at school, and often does her own thing even if it disrupts others. Butts head with Fumiko a lot, but the two come to understand each other a lot more. Gets on with Suzuki because she seemed to be the first person to see Kirami beyond her troublesome aspects and accepts her wholly.
Kazumi/ Cure Serene: Older (1y) sister type friend of Suzuki's who lost contact being in different parts of the care system. Works hard as a competative judo athlete to maintain her scholarship and help her sister. Gets easily frustrated and has anger issues at the start. Mellows out. Older cure. Bell/sand white/gold cure
Tchaikovsky (Chuchuski) Taylor / Cure Connect: Student council president, and seems a bit stand-offish but helps. Rival turned close friend of Kazumi. Is actually responsible for Suzuki's transfer, wanting to help cheer Kazumi up. Sun/sea/shore themed cure- connections, horizons etc. Nets and sails. Mixed blue/white/yellow cure. Year older than Suzuki & co.
Kokoro- fairy stuck in a cat body. Guide to the memory cures. Looking to recover and rebuild the Sapphire clock.
Kibou- nv fairy. Green broccoli bunny. Doesn't appear to do much, but manages to win an entire judo competition in a body swap incident with the cures. Likes napping in the trophy.
Minako- Kazumi’s ill little sister and close friend of Suzuki. Makes herself an alter-ego called Cure Joy.
Headmaster- School headmaster and owner of Kokoro. Helps the cures where he can
Hoshino Yuki/Cure Comet/Slip- Alien from a water planet. Saved Hare the comet fairy and became cure comet to protect him and her planet. Captured by Chaos by blackmail and is working for him. One of the main bbeg generals. Knew Cure Flower.
Hare- Yuki’s comet fairy partner
Kao-san, Chaos- BBEG
Series summary: Years after the last fight of the Cure Royales, the people of Kurogawa have all but forgotten about the precure. After an accident with a strange gem she found in part of Steady’s statue, the only sign of the Royale's left in town, Suzuki finds herself inside a swirl of time and fighting against new villains determined to get revenge on the precure. The Memory cures must seek and reassemble the parts of the Sapphire Clock and uncover the events of the past before the villains can get their hands on a powerful weapon- one rumored to be strong enough to destroy hope itself.
Big Band Precure:
“One! Two! Three! Four! Big-Band Pre-cure!” (Big Band Cures play in their own transformations and use music or music themes for all their attacks)
Setsuko/Fret/Cure Tune/Crescendo Tune- Guitar attacks. Lion (from Aoi’s crystal animal) guitar pick. Pocket extendable guitar neck to become guitar to strum. Good with all guitar-like instruments. Big fan of Wild Azure.
Toshiko/Fury/Cure Rock- Drum attacks. Tambourine bracelet (Bracelet turns to tambourine and/or drum to drumkit, and sometimes other percussion). Pen and pencil drumsticks.
Tsuyomi/Forte/Cure Classic(al)- Fan to piano attacks (The fan has a piano key pattern on and separates to make the keyboard, with the side slats becoming the stand). Princely outfit with a hidden techno-light-up element.
Shiori/Fandango/Cure Pop- Headphones mic dj deck and voice attacks. Compact halves to headphones or microphone. Clashes a bit with Tune over who has lead vocals. Eventually learns to harmonise, and earns Tunes’ approval to sing lead. Best dancer of the squad. Very good with technical skills and runs the school radio station. Often comes across as bossy/forceful in her views.
Timbre: Fairy from the song kingdom hiding out on Earth. Blue fairy with a quaver quiff. Uses her limited amounts of power to help the big band cures, and needs to rest in between. Turns into a keyless music box when asleep. The cures later learn they have to sing the right note to unlock the music box and wake her up again.
Discord- BBEG
Aoi/Cure Gelato/Cure Concert as stuck/ mentor (Adult). Travelled to Kanon town to investigate the diapperance of the Suite cures, only to get stuck there when Ballad attacked. Helps mentor the Big Band cures, overcoming her own uncertainties an insecurities at the same time.
Ako/Cure Muse: Turns up partway through, and is the only Suite member to escape the corruption from Discord. Ends up sheltering as roomates with Aoi, and the two could not be less similar. Eventually learn to understand each other more and they become an unlikely but cohesive double-act. As apparently serious and pragmatic as ever. Chips in with set-building while she is stuck in Kanon Town.
Banshee, Howler and Screech (Ellen/Siren, Hummy and Noise respectively.) (As corrupted bbeg generals)
Axe and Aux: Starter villain generals created by Ballad. Later recouped to power up other generals.
Ballad/Discord- BBEG. Jealous Prince of the song kingdom (Jealous of Major Land and its music). Released the discord to allow him to overcome the songstresses of Major land. Is after the last fairy tone to release the full power of Discord from where it is trapped beneath the Grand Staff, the manifested power of music itself.
Spotlight, Cam-cam, and Shoot: Song Kingdom fairies who work behind the scenes to make Ballad look good. Staging.
The Duet of Despair- Melody and Rhythm turned dark by the corruption of the fairy tones and their tone clefs.
Series summary: Aoi comes to Kanon town to investigate the apparent disappearance of the Suite team. She discovers a new enemy, Discord, and a powerful dissonance that weakens her transformation and traps her within the town, only to be saved by a new precure. Aoi has to uncover the identities of the new Big Band Precure and help train them to take down Discord, and save the Suite team. (Later on Discord causes a time travel break which allows Aoi to go back and find out what happened, only to learn that the corruption of the fairy tones was corrupting the treble clefs, and Gelato is forced to become the one that seals the team away to be saved in the future.)
All Animals Precure:
(Detail in linked post)
Ame/Cure Kindness: Doesn’t have magic attacks or finishers. Protective from impact in serious situations-but not sure if luck or actual magic going on as seems happen in human form too (faint heart imprint leftover outline after). Tough cure. FW-type monster judo. Stronk. Can understand all animals if needed. Can whistle to summon a friendly tiger Tora. Sometimes the tiger appears anyway to help while she’s transformed. She keeps having to take it back. Used as a mount. (Red, ringmaster like outfit. But more Rose bride anthy but with less skirt more coattails)(and red hair)
Minato/Cure Splash (Aquatic themed)(Raincoat top and hat/jellyfish bell skirt/mermaid)
Sayako/Cure Silky (Insect themed)(Silky dress, spider/catepillar vibes/mature/sophisticated dress)
Haruna/Cure Canter (Quadraped themed)(Horse girl x 100)(young adult cure)
Chizuru/Cure Chirp (Avian themed)(Carnival outfit)
Ferren- Ferret-type scout from healing garden. Nothing to do with Tarte or the sweets kingdom despite looking nearly identical.
Sukeru- Pangolin type lead bbeg
Tora: They think this is a magical tiger, but they're not sure if it's just a tiger that Cure Kindness happened to save and has now just...bonded with her. Ongoing bit where Kindness keeps having to return the tiger to increasingly alarmed zoo staff, often just carrying it back and handing it over like it's nothing. The zookeepers disagree.
Big hearted animal-lover Ame seems to fall into the life of her dreams after her dad gets a big promotion allowing them all to move to the zoo where he works. There she runs into Ferren, a scout from the Healing Garden searching for an escaped criminal, Sukeru, with a hatred for humans. Stepping in to protect Ferren from the monsters, Ame becomes a precure, and starts on her journey to protect all animals from the dark magic of Sukeru. (Ends up fighting past cures-turned-animal monsters)

Cure Steady (OC): The character and backstory
Cure Steady was a part of the Cure Royales, an older precure team originally from the Heart Kingdom, ruled by Queen Cure. Steady and the other precure were the knight protectors of the kingdom’s princess and heir, but forseeing great danger and a turbulent life for the princess, Queen Cure sent her and her knights far forward into the future to have the chance to live a more peaceful life with ability to choose who she wanted to be.
They immediately run into trouble, as the villainy they had hoped to escape followed them, but away from the obligations and a lot of the memories of her kingdom, the princess surprises everyone by becoming a precure too, wanting to protect this world. They are eventually able to foil the villains plans to steal the remaining power from the long abandoned Heart Kingdom, but in a fit of rage the villain lashes out at the citizens of Earth instead. In their efforts to stop him one last time, and protect the people, Steady uses up all her magic and turns to stone. The princess uses her power to try and protect Steady’s heart, then sets out to seek a way to bring her back.
When Suzuki (Cure Memory) comes into the picture, the town is under the thrall of a different enemy and cannot speak freely about the precure, so what they did has been largely forgotten. Suzuki spends a lot of time hanging out on and around Steady’s statue, and talks to her a lot. She even makes flower crowns for her. Suzuki has no idea what precure are, or that Steady might be a real person, but this is kinda her safe space, someone to talk to, open up to.
When Steady is eventually restored, she is now an adult, and has enough vague memories of all the times Suzuki talked to her to feel like she knows her, and feels like she wants to protect her. She ends up with a proper mother-daughter relationship with her, even adopting her. Turns out Steady has a strong motherly-type protective vein, especially around younger cures, and has to be dissuaded from spontaneously adopting all the other cures when there’s all stars stuff.
(on the flip aide of this, I think in my notes I made a joke of how Suzuki, who has 0 mothers/mother figures at the start of the series, ends up with at least eight.)
Even though the other Royale cures are still nowhere to be found, Steady can transform still, and readily helps the Memory cures in their fight.
By the time Steady reappears, the others are gone, and she becomes quite an independent cure, still dedicated to protecting the people of Earth.
Steady’s attacks are strength based. She is a stronk cure, hard to move when she’s holding the line.
A lot of her fighting is physical, and she can often be seen physically stopping monsters and debris, as well as saving people. Those heart pads in her hands get a lot of use.
She’s very good as carrying large numbers of people. She’ll just stack them up as well as she can. Is usually more careful with the non-cures.
She’s strong, but she hates heights. A lot. She often seems steady on her feet, and she is when she’s in action, but you get her in the air...
She can still trip over her feet in unguarded moments too. For a rock/earth themed cure, she sure spends a lot of time faceplanted in it.
She might be a fierce opponent in a fight, but she has a kind heart, wanting to help and protect others.
Magical Attacks:
Power up! A simple upgrade: Steady punches a fist in palm, and can grow to three or four times her former size. This is the form her statue was in, and is big enough to directly wrestle and restrain monsters, or hold shut big doors (like you might find in a castle). She struggles with vertigo on the height change, and that tires her out so she is quite careful when uses this. Will use for intimidation sometimes, much more so once she is working with her daughter. (Memory: “Oh, I didn’t say you were fighting me.” *confused villain noises* Memory: “MOOOMMMM!!!” and then pre powered up Steady comes charging in )
Precure Rock-et smash: Punching a chunk of rock or earth from the ground and punching the magical essence of that rock towards the enemy. This is different to her punching away, or throwing back rocks, which she also does. This is a way to hit people-coded villains with a rock without actually hitting people with a rock. Precure Rock-et barrage is an upgrade that allows her to hit multiple shots from the same rock by magically reinforcing the original rock and holding it in place. Then punching/kicking it a lot.
Steady heart: a connection purification attack. Attack probably isn’t the right word here, as while it looks like an attack at first, there is no violence. Steady has to make contact with the enemy, coming in to land her hand on their heart. This often looks like an attack to break through the enemy’s defences, but they tend to be surprised when they aren’t punted into orbit. Her hand heart pad lies on their heart, and a magical bubble appears around them both that seems to slow things down and create a safe space so they can talk. It also projects calming natural views, highlighting things the enemy might not actually want to destroy. They have a heart to heart, Steady getting through to the source of why they were fighting, and giving them the reasons and reassurance of why they don’t actually need to fight. With monsters it’s usually just an explanation that they’re not what they’re meant to be, and that’s causing them enough discomfort to want to revert. Once they see the reason, Steady calls out “Steady your heart!” and a pink heart of magic expands from Steady’s hand and purifies the enemy. This attack can also occur from a hug version, in which case the hand to heart location is round the back.
Sometimes after a battle, the battlefield doesn’t magically revert (thanks to the enemy’s interference, particularly in the Memory Cures case from Kao-san’s interference). Thanks to the princess, Steady has the capability to fix things like this, which also can be used as a secondary purification attack (although slightly more likely to fail due to the lack of personal connection with the enemy).
She starts by rubbing her hands together, the heart pads generating the first sparks of magic. She then uses her hands to draw out a big heart (two halves) and calls out “Love of the world,!” She takes a deep stance (or is already on one knee) and throws her arms back, the heart shape flying back through her with more sparks as it splashes her with magic. The large heart shape now sits behind her and folds slightly, as if it were her wings. Big dramatic moment. She then brings her hands forward, palms up towards her target (making contact with the ground if on the ground and aiming towards her target if not in range), throwing the magic to its target as she calls out “Embrace the Earth!” The heart shoots towards the target, hits, and spreads, shining bright across the surface and purifying/fixing it.
While Steady belonged to a previous group where she had a duty to protect the princess, the princess made a point of releasing them from that obligation so they could follow their hearts and not her. Steady loved Earth and the people deeply (she always loved deeply) and chose to continue to protect the earth, “the world you love so much as well.”
The princess also used her power to save Steady when she sacrificed herself to protect the people. Chiyoko used the power of her kingdom to protect Steady’s heart, allowing her to survive. Even now, the crown of the kingdom still sits round her heart, allowing her to live and transform like she always used to even though she doesn’t have her gem anymore. Steady has a memory of the princess asking her to look after them (the people) for her.
Tumblr media
^^ Cure Steady by @ dryad_druid find their commissions here
Addition to say I have realised that Steady's fear of heights would lead her to be carried a lot by Special (the princess) as she can fly. Steady would have her eyes screwed shut pretty much any time she was off the ground, so it would be a matter of trust that she would be safe.
Steady has a reputation for being robust. While she is pretty much the opposite of active in the air, she's still solidly built enough that dropping a curled up ball of Steady from a height is a valid attack method (Steady has agreed to this, bc however much she hates heights, or even falling, she always wants to be on the ground again.) Steady just holds the curled up ball until she's on the ground again, usually after knocking the monster out. Cannonball! It does take her a moment to get back into the fight though.
